(Never After with a Happy Ending)
『This is quite a different sort of short stories. At first I did not think I would like it, but it actually was a very good read!』

(read better, but not bad, 2.5 stars.)
『It's nice to see that LKH can write something other then Anita or Merry, and while I did enjoy reading it, I still think that she really needs to take a break from writing and do something else for a bit.

Yasmine's story was wonderfully writen and I loved finding out more about one of the other people of her Otherworld series and look forward to more from her in the anthology, Inked.

The other two stories on the other hand, I couldn't finish Marjorie's and couldn't read Sharon's at all. I just couldn't get into either one. If you want to read this one, I'd recomend getting it used.』

(Great book)
『Other reviewers have done a great job with recapping the stories so I'm just sharing my opinion about the book.

I enjoyed Hamilton's story a lot. It was short but it was a great story with a great theme. I do enjoy Hamilton's books and no, it doesn't fit in with her Anita Blake or Merry Gentry stories. This one is more along the line of Nightseer and the stories in Strange Candy. I hope she continues to come out with more of this flavor.

I really didn't care for Galenorn's story. I found it and its heroine tedious and the plot contrived and only finished because it wasn't long enough that I felt like I would waste too much of my time to see how it ended. It's my first story by her and I don't anticipate reading another.

I enjoyed Liu's story. She's a great writer. I've read several of her books and although I chose to stop reading them due to disliking her typical story arch, I quite enjoyed this one and the (slightly foreseeable) twist at the end.

Sharon Shinn's was probably my favorite story because of the character development of the heroine and how each of the other supporting characters and their stories are revealed with perfect timing to keep the story moving forward.

So definitely worth the price of the book and I'm sure I'll be reading it again.』

(3 out of 4 stories make this a worthwhile purchase)
『The focus of the stories in these anthologies all involve girls who are being forced to wed against their will. Laurell K Hamilton headlines the book, but unfortunately her story is both the shortest as well as the least enjoyable. The first story in the book, it ends at the 11% mark on a Kindle - and that includes all of the title pages before the story. The rest of the stories are actually quiet good and make the book a worthwhile purchase.

Laurell's story is more along the lines of a fable. To prevent her father from announcing her betrothal to a lecherous old man, Elinore declares that she's going to rescue Prince True, an arrogant prince taken captive decades ago by a sorceress. Challenges must be met to proceed to the next test to get close to freeing the prince and no one who has ever returned from the attempt. Elinore goes in expecting to die, preferring death to the marriage. The story isn't long enough to feel anything for this rather stiff character, but Elinore does make some rather smart, if unexpected decisions.

Yasmine Galnorn's story focuses on a Selkie who had run from a marriage 100 years ago and is now pregnant and with a man she loves when her former, very dangerous fiancé catches up with her. The story involves the D'Artigo sisters from the Sisters of the Moon series where we had earlier met this story's heroine.

Majorie M Liu provides the story of a princess who runs away looking for answers in a magical but dangerous forest a week before meeting with her intended, a fabled Warlord. The kingdom needs this man, the son of her mother's best friend, as their ally as roving bands cause havoc and destruction. She is rescued barely in the forest by a troupe of wandering performers and gets to be just Sally, keeping her identity a secret and falling for the leader of the group. This is the most emotional story in the book.

Sharon Shinn's story takes roughly 40% of the book. It involves a princess who refuses her father's demands to marry a neighbor who she's known all of her life but finds boring. So to find a suitor and marry her off, he holds a series of challenges involving fighting ability, courage and wisdom; the winner gets to marry the princess. Princess Olivia grows quite a bit in this story as she finds things aren't always as they appear.

(G-rated but very enjoyable)
『I loved the twist in Laurell's book. I thought that Yasmine Galenorn's was one that was hard to put down. I certainly enjoyed the rest of them.』
The bonds of love...

The bonds of matrimony...

The bonds between husband and wife...

Let's face it—some bonds are made to be broken.

Here, for the first time ever, are four stories from today's most provocative authors that take the classic idea of the "faerie tale wedding" and give it a swift kick in the bustle.

(good read but did not live up to expectations)
『waited for this title and purchased at extra cost earlier than date advised would be
released, although a good read 6 out of ten did not live up to my expectations』

(Home for the holidays and hot for it.)
『I thought this was a nice collection of erotic fiction, all set during the holiday. And this is the best time for a little refresher. There are four novellas in all, from some of the leading erotica writers. And all are told very well and have some good spice to them. If you are looking for a diversion right now from the holiday frustrations coming up, get this one. It will take you worlds away. For a quickie, you might also try Sex Scenes: Erotica Excerpts from the Novels of Kim Corum.』

(Stories 4 stars - Kindle version 1 star)
『I found the errors in the kindle version to be very distracting. The page breaks were in strange places and a lot of words were missing the 1st letter. I don't think spell check would have helped for one of the stories - the female lead Kat was frequently referred to as At. It needed an editor and it was clear that no one read the kindle version before it was released.

(Only wanted to read one of the four)
『I have read a book from each of these authors but in this anthology the only one I was interested in reading was the one by Lora Leigh, not to say that the other stories were bad because frankly I didn't read them. I have read all except one of the stories in Lora Leighs' breed series and for such a short story the character development of both Jessica and Hawke was very good. I personally would have liked to have learned more of Hawkes past before meeting Jessica, but you know that's what you sometimes get when you buy a book under 300 pages. My advise unless your looking to read more than two of the stories this book in not for you, save yourself the almost $ 8.00 for paperback or the $ 6. 39 for kindle. I don't feel that you need to read this book to be prepared for the next breeds book Lions Heat (jonas and rachel).

(Definately HOT for the holidays!)
『An excellant collection of short stories. Not a bad one in the bunch! A new Mageverse story by Angela Knight that will thrill (hoping for more to come!), Anya Bast&Allyson James wrote solid stories that are hopefully to be followed up by full length novels and the incomprable Lora Leigh gives us another doozy of a breed to drool over. Overall, best collection I've read in a long while.』
『Featuring four all-new novellas of sensual surprises and seasonal spirits, this collection includes a new tale of the Breeds from Lora Leigh and a return to the world of the Mageverse from Angela Knight.

(Cute Holiday Historical with Two out of Three Stories That Were Enjoyable Reads (B Grade))
『A Handful of Gold by Mary Balogh was my least favorite story in this anthology. We have the same old rehash of a plot with a gentleman rake who is bored in London surrounded by all his wealth. Julian Dare, Viscount Folingsby is out of sorts because his father is forcing him to marry. He's twenty nine after all and it's about time he settled down and has an heir. Julian has not finished sowing his oats but decided some relaxation is in order when his friend, Bertrand (what is up with that name?) invites him to his hunting box for the holidays. Bertie has his mistress to keep him satisfied and wants Julian to bring his own mistress and come along for some cheer and holiday shagging. Julian has the perfect woman picked out. She is Blanche Heyward, a dancer in the opera with "long, shapely legs with long titan hair and emerald eyes."

Blanche is actually Miss Verity Ewing, a virginal young miss who pretends to be a worldly opera dancer in order to pay for the costly medicine for her sick sister. Verity's mother and sister have no clue about her secret life and tells them some laughable excuse about being a hired companion for a eccentric lady who needs Verity mainly at night. When Julian meets her at the opera and takes her to dinner, he explains how he longs for company for the week and will pay her five hundred pounds. Verity accepts because the money will help her sister. And all of London society thinks she's a fallen woman anyway (except her clueless mother) because an opera dancer could never be a virgin!

Julian and Verity head off for their week long adventure and even though Verity is nervous about being ruined by Julian, she decides to welcome his advances because Julian should have wonderful skills in the bedroom because of his reputation.

A Handful of Gold was a ridiculous little story. How many times have I read before about the acclaimed opera singer actually being some virginal and precious young miss who catches the eyes of the biggest rake in all of London? Verity had no personality to speak of and Julian was a dullard.

Nicola Cornick's The Season For Suitors was a cute and fun read about two people who are so right for one another but try to ignore their feelings because they think they want different things in life. Sebastian, Duke of Fleet is yet another London rake who is bored with life in general. Things begin to look up when he receives a letter from Clara Davencourt. Sebastian is surprised to hear from Clara due to the falling out they had eighteen months ago because he rejected her offer of marriage. She was insulted, hurled a few choice words at him and they haven't spoken since then. Now Clara is asking Sebastian for advice. Sebastian longs to be friends with her again. Clara is also pleased with renewing their acquaintance because Sebastian is a skilled rake. She needs him to help her with all these new rakes that keep popping up and trying to seduce her because she is now a rich heiress due to her godmother who died and left her a fortune. Clara is not ready to be married and since Sebastian isn't either, he'll help her out.

The Season for Suitors is a witty little tale with two lovely characters who can see how special each other is with their quirks and all. Both Sebastian and Clara are fun loving individuals and there are a few laughs withn the pages that makes for fun reading.

Courtney Milan's His Wicked Gift was my favorite of the three. Courtney takes a Charles Dicken's Christmas Carol and gives it a nice twist with a regency romance where a mysterious man finds love with a poor girl who runs her father's lending library business.

Lavinia Spencer has cut corners and saved every penny of her hard earned money to give her father and younger brother a very special Christmas. Times are tough and Lavinia spends her days running her family's business because her father can't any longer due to an illness. She also looks forward to seeing a special subscriber on certain days. William Q. White makes Lavinia's heart flutter. The way he speaks makes her tingle. There's something so very special about this man who uses long vowels when he talks. Instead of William using the smell of sandalwood to make Lavinia, giddy, all he has to do is to recite the alphabet to seduce her.

Unfortunately Lavinia's younger brother James does something foolish that will ruin their whole holiday. Lavinia thinks everything is lost until Mister William Q. White comes to her aid. William has come into a bit of money and will give Lavinia what she needs if she gives him her body. William has gone through tough times and is barely making ends meet working in a counting house for a man who is a total scrooge. But he has been given ten pounds from the death of someone in his past who he felt owed him a great deal. And since William feels he has sacrificed so much, he wants one bright thing to get him through the harsh unforgiving winter and that is Lavinia.

This Wicked Gift was very sexy and sweet. The physical side of William and Lavinia's relationship happens a bit too fast, and Lavinia's reaction to William's "help" was a bit unbelievable, but overall I really did enjoy how these two clicked. Too bad the story was so short because I would have loved to read something meatier between the two. Courtney really knows how to keep a reader interested, because what could be better than making some steamy love among a room full of books?

Two out of three isn't a bad thing and I would say that The Heart of the Christmas anthology is nice for those who want to get in the mood for the holidays with their historical romance reading.

Katiebabs』

(Let's usher in the Christmas spirit!)
『I read these stories on my day off, and I would recommend them to any romance reader.

For all the pros and cons of the story lines, each book is well written, and are at a decent enough length to where you can get a satisfying read.

Mary Balogh writes a solid book and has the elements of a classic regency romance. Her book comes across as meaty despite its length, and we see character development with the hero.

Nicola Cornicks offering was an enjoyable one. The heroine was definitely spirited but not a brat. My one issue was the fact that the initial storyline made no sense to me. I won't discuss it however overall it was a lighthearted read.

The last story by Milan is a departure from the sparkling romances that we seem to get. I thought that it was an awesome story because it showcased reality and the growth of the hero AND the heroine. (Well moreso the hero)

All in all, I think that this is a must have for any regency/historical romance fan. Each story stands on its own, and is different from the next one so I felt that I got my moneys worth.

(Enjoyable read!)
『I really liked the book! Courtney Milan's story was my favorite. Imagine - a regency romance with the hero and heroine members of the "deserving poor"! I loved it.

Nicola Cornick's story was ok. I felt like I'd been there, read that, but it was well written.

Mary Balogh's story was also ok. A little predictable, but I still liked it.』

(the Mary Balogh story is a re-print)
『I haven't read the other two stories in this anthology, but Mary Balogh's "A Handful of Gold" was previously published in The Gifts of Christmas: A Handful of Gold/ A Drop of Frankincense/ A Touch of Myrrh, 1998.

"A Handful of Gold" is not one of my favorites of Balogh's Christmas anthology contributions (many of which I love to re-read when that time of year comes around), so I thought it worth mentioning that Balogh fans may already own it or could purchase it more cheaply in the older volume, if they wish.』

(three fun Regency romantic novellas)
『"A Handful of Gold" by Mary Balogh. The handsome and wealthy heir to an earldom, Lord Julian Dare, seems to have everything so what do you get the man you love for Christmas who seems to need nothing Verity Ewing asks herself. You give your heart to him though the risk is that he will return it broken.

"The Season for Suitors" by Nicola Cornick. Because she is a pretty heiress, rakes and wastrels try to compromise Clara Davenport into marriage. She has been fortunate so far, but knows her luck will not hold out so she decides she needs a teacher to train her, an innocent, on how to fend off rakes. She turns to the poster boy of rakes Sebastian Fleet for mentoring and advice. However, the lessons between the teacher and the student turn into one of love.

"This Wicked Gift" by Courtney Milan. In 1822 Lavinia Spencer has saved money in order for her family to celebrate the holidays with a Christmas dinner. Four days before the gala, her brother James loses everything, leaving them in a debt greater than they can pay back. William Q. White, who she has adored from a distance, offers to make the payment in exchange for her innocence.

These three Regency romantic novellas are fun tales due to the assertive females who know what they want and take charge of achieving their respective heart's desires. Although the Balogh and Cornick entries are reprints from the anthology Christmas Keepsakes, this anthology is worth reading because of the strong women.

『"Luring Lucy" by Lori Foster

Lucy is the widow of Bram's best friend. Ever since her husband died, Bram has been waiting to make his move - he has loved her ever since he met her. Finding out that Lucy has gone to her lake house with the hopes of acquiring a lover sends Bram over the edge. If anyone is going to be "Luring Lucy" to their bed, it is going to be him!

Talk about a true alpha male! Bram is steadfast and knows exactly what he wants. And he wants Lucy. Joyfully I watched him seduce and claim his woman. He was thorough, that much was more than apparent!

"Cooper's Fall" by Lora Leigh

Ethan Cooper has been watching pretty Sair Fox ever since she moved next door to him. His desire becomes overwhelming when, looking out of his attic window, he sees the prim and innocent Ms. Fox being very naughty. Watching her tease herself is almost more than he can handle. Cooper has definitely fallen!

Ethan Cooper. His name alone is enough to make me swoon. From the top of his head to the tip of his um, yeah. Ethan is sin personified and quite happy to show beautiful Sair exactly how naughty this bad boy can be!

"The Edge of Sin" by Cheyenne McCray

Zane Steele has a dangerous job and is unable to talk about it. Waiting on a contact, Zane finds himself mesmerized by a woman licking an ice cream cone. Fixated on everything about her, Zane can't help himself and has to meet her. The sexual tension between Willow and Zane is instantaneous. Will Zane be able to have a relationship with this enigmatic woman or will, once again, his job put someone he cares about in danger?

Zane knew from the minute he saw Willow that he had to have her. Lucky for him, Willow felt the same way. The sexual attraction each felt for the other was amazingly hot and burned out of control with smoking hot results!

"Wanted: A Real Man" by Heidi Betts

Years ago Claire broke up with her boyfriend in order to pursue her dreams. Now, ten years later, she has to come face to face with the one man she has never been able to forget - Linc. Now a U.S. Marshal, Linc knows trouble when he sees it and if Claire walking back into his life is any indication, things are about to get messy. Finding out he has a daughter unnerves Linc, but he agrees to help Claire find her - and find her he will.

Linc surprised me. I fully intended to be angry with him the way he treated Claire when she needed his help so desperately. However, I ended up being more than attracted to him because of the way he took control of the situation and began helping Claire. The sparks fly between these two, even ten years later, quite nicely I might add.

Real Men Last All Night is an outstanding anthology. Each novella has an entertaining and sexually charged plot. Readers should note that Lori Foster's contribution, "Luring Lucy", is not an original, but a rerelease. That disappointed me, however, not enough that I didn't enjoy rereading Bram and Lucy's story. "Cooper's Fall" by Lora Leigh is my dead on favorite. No one writes erotic love play quite like Ms. Leigh. Cheyenne McCray's contribution, "The Edge of Sin", whetted my appetite for more Lexi Steele novels - Zane is Lexi's brother. Heidi Betts is a new writer on the erotic front. I adore her Silhouette releases and thought "Wanted: A Real Man" was superb. Ms. Betts is quickly making a name for herself and if this novella is any indication of her talent, she should be around a very long time.

For naughty, risqué, alpha, and sizzling hot reads, Real Men Last All Night is a must read!

(Strong start, weak finish)
『Leigh delivers, fresh story and concept, hot and fun. As other reviewers mentioned, the Foster story was a repeat - always a disappointment for us long time readers. McCray and Betts didn't cut it for me. I read it all, in hope, but I really cannot recommend this set of short stories.』

『I enjoyed it but the stories were really fast and I was craving more story because the characters were so vivid.』

『I think I had high expectations for this book especially based on the cover. I thought it would be very exciting and erotic, but it wasn't. I wish Lora Leigh would never use the word 'cream' again - please! The stories were short and sweet.』

I was a little worried when I bought this anthology, just because while I love Lora Leigh and Lori Foster, the other two authors are not ones I really go out of my way to read. Luckily things worked out! Lora Leigh's story is just what you would expect from her, filled with sex and fun, and it was great to read. A little bit of mystery (that might have been slightly unnecessary) but recommended all the same. Foster's story is actually an older one (published originally in 2001) and while typical for her, still not bad. I was most surprised by how much I enjoyed McCray's story because I've been disappointed by her in the past. I always like how her books sound, then am never quite as happy with how they turn out. This story is definitely a keeper though, again with a somewhat uncomplicated happy ending built in for the hero and heroine - but I'm not complaining because that's often all I want. Betts' story is the only disappointing one, but it has to a do a lot with the fact that I'm kind of done with the whole 'I had a baby but didn't tell the father, who is actually the love of my life' story. The guys always start off by being a d-bag and then works to redeem himself in the eyes of the reader by the end, but it doesn't always work for me.

Overall Feeling - Thumbs up. Definitely a lot of fun, filled with hot sex and not something to miss if you know the genre and what to expect.

(Horrible message)
『I bought this book because I was hoping for a sex positive book for females. I was definitely wrong. Tons of the short stories were of women being taken advantage of. For example, take Goldy Locks and the Three Bears. Instead of bears it was three men. When they found Goldy Locks in their house they surrounded her and started taking off her clothes. It sounded more like rape than sexy to me. Every story the female didn't like what was happening, but then suddenly she was fine with it.

To me this was not a female positive book at all. It was just suggesting the idea that women like being raped.

(all but one)
『I enjoyed these stories quite a bit. I thought that taking a look at female sexuality through fairy tales was more of an exuse to write erotic stories, until I read "Cat and Mouse" and "Mirror on the wall". These 2 stories and "Ugly Duckling" make the book worthwhile. I enjoyed most of the others as well, but "Cat-Mouse" and "Mirror" were definately the most profound... that said, I absolutley HATED what Madore did with "The Goose Girl". The original fairytale is a sad one, but I've always enjoyed it. This version is awful and ruined the whole point of the story. The others... fit. Even "Goldilocks" which I didn't like that much either. Still, it sort of fit with the original tale. "The Goose Girl" was completely ruined and very disappointing.』

(It tried too hard to empower!)
『I ended up reading the sequel to this one because I didn't have my Kindle yet, and they were all sold out of this one. I have to say I liked the sequel better, so if you weren't too satisfied with this one, you should still give the second one a try because it's much better.

I'm a woman, and though I know women are still pushing for full equal rights in this country, I DON'T enjoy having to constantly hear the fact that women are not men's possessions, and have equal rights within 80% of the stories in this book. I could understand that the author's goal was to probably empower women in their sexuality, but I think she took it a little too far, by constantly having to remind the reader of this through the characters in a not-so-clever way. In one instance, the author wrote a story in which the men were represented as cats who felt they were in control of the mice, who were women, even though the mice were equal to the cats, but dressed in skimpy clothes to please them. I really wish this story was more cleverly done, or omitted entirely, because it's way to feminist for me. There were others that had to do with males v. females, but I chose this one because it was so obvious. While the classic cat and mouse theme, it was hard to get into the story that was too focused on showing a message, rather than telling a story. That, and I had difficulty picturing a cat trying to have sex with a mouse.

But as I said, the second one was much better, and more about what was happening within the context of the story, instead of trying too successfully to convey a message of feminine empowerment.』

(Interesting but left little to be desired)
『I'm not really into anything graphic or racy so after reading the reviews I thought this book would be perfect for me.

While it kept me turning pages, at the end of each story all I could think was, "That's it? Really?"

I'm not saying I need dirty words and lots of visual to peak my interesting but this is too soft, even for me. If your not into hot and heavy and maybe are just interested in seeing what "erotic" stories have to offer, I would highly recommend you start here. If you can handle a swear word or too, I'd keep looking.』

(Enchanting.)
『I really liked this book, mostly because it takes old fairy tales and makes them new again--and what girl doesn't love fairy tales? I thought the erotica was sensual and the writing very good. It's a must have for women, but you don't necessarily have to read it at bedtime! It's definitely romantic. I also liked Now She's Gone.』
『Allow yourself to be drawn into a fantasy world like no other . . . where a beautiful princess is seduced into a love triangle with a handsome prince and her winsome maid . . . where a mysterious gentleman's young bride is deliciously disciplined for her unchecked curiosity . . . where a naive daughter is married off to a beast of a man whose carnal appetites awaken her budding desire . . .

With a unique and decidedly adult twist on thirteen classic fairy tales, Nancy Madore intrigues and arouses with her titillating, sizzling anthology of erotic stories guaranteed to keep you up late into the night.

You'll never look at fairy tales the same way again.』

(Carla Kelly: The Rose Between the Thorns)
『If this anthology did not contain Carla Kelly's story I would have happily given it a one or two star rating. Carla by herself gets ten stars IMO.

If I never read anything by Lyn Stone again I don't believe I shall miss much. The writer's style is inane, simplistic, sometimes just simply inaccurate and she writes choppy, stagnant dialogue. The precept of a heroine with hysterical paralysis coupled with a disabled war veteran (the former making a perfect and overnight recovery) was too much. It stretched reality to the breaking point for me. I really don't know how the editors of this book agreed to include it. Zero stars.

Gail Ranstrom's contribution would, by itself rate two, possibly three stars. An average read, the plot device of quarreling relatives gathering like vultures over the death of an elderly (and very rich) relative has been done to death. This relative struck it rich in the late 18th c South Carolina goldfields. Well, I've never heard of this and a quick bit of looking at the internet mentioned a minor gold find in North Carolina in 1799 but otherwise, this is seemingly the author's fairy tale. I did like the hero in this one and the heroine was OK but they were trapped in a pretty bland story. Three stars max.

As ever and always, Carla Kelly delivers. Period, full stop, end of story. With a sure hand she gives a beautifully crafted story of another of the Channel Fleet captains who guarded England against Napoleon's invasion ambitions. With few words she paints a charming picture of a widow (of 35!!) and her family, living on very little, at Christmas. They are reunited with her childhood friend, our captain, and suddenly life seems lighter and more fulfilling for all concerned. This would have made a great full length novel but as the author herself has pointed out elsewhere, writing a short story is a challenge of its own and it takes a great deal of talent to produce one as lovely as this - one all about adult love. Ten stars.

Well, no doubt some will think giving this one four stars is misleading but at least this year our main Regency Chrismas anthology contains 3 new stories. Last year Signet paid us the insult of giving us a Christmas anthology full of recycled stories. Thank you, Carla, you gave me an hour or two of reading delight.』

(Not your mother's regencies!)
『These stories are pretty tame when it comes to sex, given the graphic nature of many of the newer romance novels. But they are not like many of the old regencies due to the fact that in all three of the novellas, the couples have sex, and two of the heroines are virgins in an era where doing that was a huge decision that could ruin a girl's chance for marriage. I'm not a prude, just mentioning this so that readers will know beforehand in case they are looking for a more chaste romance. The sex isn't the reason I rated this book as just "ok." In the first novella by Lynn Stone,"Scarlet Ribbons," the story had a lot of promise, with both the hero and the heroine being in wheel chairs. I was just disappointed at how easily one of them had their problem resolved, and it just didn't ring true that after being in a wheelchair for over eight months, a person could be gallivanting around all of a sudden. The story was based on issues and conflicts that I've seen over and over again in romance novels, so what started out as original became the "same old same old." The second novella, "Christmas Promise," by Carla Kelly, was my favorite, and is the only reason I'm keeping the book on my "keeper shelf." Although there is premarital sex, it more understandable in the context of her being a widow and him having been out to sea for years. The plot was a bit reminiscent of Cyrano DeBergerac, but that is ok with me since I am a Carla fan and I love Cyrano! The last novella, by Gail Ranstrom, was the weakest of the three, since it seemed that the heroine turned "wanton" at the drop of a hat, and not much thought was given to the fact that she would be "ruined" in the eyes of society. I also thought that the plot was pretty far-fetched. It was imaginative, and the writing was good, but that wasn't enough to carry the story along for me so I skimmed through the end of it. All in all, this anthology is an entertaining holiday read, but I wouldn't re-read it except for the Carla Kelly story.』
Scarlet Ribbonsby Lyn Stone

『*NOTE* These stories were originally released in individual, yet connected, ebooks. The reviews below were written for the ebooks, hence the references to the print release at the end of each.*

~Watch Me by Shelley Bradley~

Ballroom Dancing is Shanna's life. She will do anything to win the coveted championship - something that has so far eluded her. To that end, she has gone through so many partners she has been nicknamed the Bitch of the Ballroom. But the competitive gene runs strong in Shanna's family, and she is the only one that hasn't yet proved her skill with a trophy. She has given up everything for that goal, even to the exclusion of friendships or romance.

The moment Alejandro lays eyes on the beautiful dancer, he aims to change all of that. Determined to win her affection, he tries unsuccessfully to woo her, even purchasing all of her dances at a charity event.

But a blackmail scheme and a career-damaging sex tape place Shanna right where Alejandro wants her - in his very own club, Sneak Peek. In this playground for the sexually adventurous, Shanna sets out to trap a blackmailer even while Alejandro sets out to trap Shanna in his own web. He recognizes the exhibitionist tendencies she harbors and knows just how to reach this woman's deepest desires now that she is in his lair... Through it all, he will show Shanna that life is about more than just winning, and that love is the dearest prize of all.

If you have read many of my previous reviews, you have probably figured out already that Shelley Bradley, aka Shayla Black, is one of my very favorite authors. Well, there is good reason for that - her writing absolutely rocks! There seems to be no end to the worlds this author can dream up or the characters that speak to her. She can write sweet, she can write spicy, and she usually combines the two in a way that stirs both the loins and the heart with equal fervor.

With the current popularity of ABC's `Dancing With the Stars' show, Watch Me's setting in the midst of a professional Ballroom Dancing competition is as topical as it is romantic. While Alejandro may not be a professional dancer, he more than has what it takes to sweep Shanna off of her feet - a fact guaranteed to send the dancer with single-minded focus running in the opposite direction. But in the true style of the best romantic heroes, Alejandro does not let this dissuade him from the prize. He sees more in Shanna than the bitch she is purported her to be - he sees a woman afraid to love, a woman who has forgotten what living is all about, and he is determined to show her personally.

Shanna is a woman so focused on her goals, that she has left her life and even her very womanhood behind. With her career firmly in first place, all else takes a backseat, including romance, friendship and even just plain old fun. When she meets Alejandro, she knows to the depths of her soul he will be a distraction she can't afford, and fights her attraction to him with everything she has.

Watch Me is a wonderfully hot little romance story with a resounding moral lesson. Readers are reminded alongside Shanna that love and loyalty are the most important prizes of all, and to always keep your mind and your heart open.

Watch Me is connected to Jaci Burton's upcoming release, Show Me. The stories will be enhanced if you read them in order (Watch Me first and Show Me second) but each works very well as a standalone tale. Both stories release separately in eBook this month from Samhain Publishing, and will be released together in print in an anthology titled Sneak Peek in 2008.

~Show Me by Jaci Burton~

As heir to her father's holdings, and chairperson of her family's charitable foundations, Janine esteems reputation above all else. No matter what her innermost desires are, as a member of the public eye, she must always be above reproach lest she besmirch the Bartolino name and damage their organization.

When her friends drag her out for her thirtieth birthday, she has no idea they are going to Sneak Peek, an exclusive sex club. And she certainly wasn't prepared to meet a man like Del, who seems to see inside her darkest fantasies, but has no regard for reputation, at least not his own. But once she has a taste of what Del offers, she can't stay away, and soon she finds herself exploring the boundaries of exhibitionism with Del in ways she never before imagined.

Del has always had his choice of women. As the bachelor partner in Sneak Peek, he finds himself with more than ample opportunity to indulge his most hedonistic tendencies without reservation. Yet when he meets the reserved Janine, he is intrigued by releasing her from her inhibitions and unlocking the passions she has buried deep down inside...

Jaci Burton has swiftly moved up my list of favorite authors, and when I learned she was partnering with Shelley Bradley to write the Sneak Peek stories, I jumped at the chance to review these stories by two such talented writers. Burton's Show Me picks up where Bradley's Watch Me leaves off, and stars the supporting male character from the prior story, Phillipe "Del" Delacroix as well as seeing a return of Alejandro in a supporting role this time. Bradley and Burton work well together, connecting the two stories seamlessly.

Del is the epitome of the playboy/bad boy. Rich, successful, and with some very wild sexual predilections, he is the kind of man women love to try and tame - just a little bit. Getting to know his character, I found myself reminded of that line in one of Tim McGraw's songs more than once: "I may be a real bad boy, but baby, I'm a real good man." That describes Del perfectly. Del is wicked, tempting, and absolutely untamable, but when it comes down to it, he is definitely a good man. He shows his concern for Janine in everything he does, and still manages to push her limits sexually, fulfilling her wildest yearnings over and over again.

Janine is a woman caught between the woman she thinks she needs to be and the woman she really is. When her real world and her fantasies collide, she has to learn more than just how to let herself go - she has to learn to trust.

I won't be shy about saying it - I loved this story! Jaci Burton has penned a tale that is smoking hot, and also manages to be extremely romantic. I felt every emotion these characters felt, and was on the edge of my seat until I finished the last chapter.

Show Me is connected to Shelley Bradley's book, Watch Me. The stories will be enhanced if you read them in order (Watch Me first and Show Me second) but each works very well as a standalone tale. (Disappointing)
『The only good novella in this anthology was Kresley Cole's "The Warlord Wants Forever." In fact, that was the only reason I purchased this book since it's the first story in her Immortals After Dark series and I'm a big fan. I was hoping the other two novellas would be good, too, but they were both letdowns. The worst of the three was Sherrilyn Kenyon's "Turn Up the Heat." This was my first time reading any of Kenyon's material and if this is anything to base the rest of her work on, I don't think I'll ever buy another one of her books. The writing was just atrocious. Some of the lines were super cheesy - the hero thinks the heroine looks like a "wholesome dairy maid," and he's suddenly overwhelmed with lust, the heroine says stuff like "my heinie." Give me a break. I made it about 30 or 40 pages in and gave up on it. The second one, "Hunter's Oath" by Jaid Black, just had a ridiculous premise and the sex scenes left me cold. Throwing around a bunch of crude words does not a hot scene make.

Kresley Cole's was definitely the best of these three, but I don't think it really compared with the rest of the IAD series. Maybe because of the length. It did, however, fill in some of the blanks from the later books, so I was glad I bought it just for that. I'm debating whether or not to even keep this book, but, if I do, it'll be solely because of "The Warlord Wants Forever." If it weren't for that one novella, I would get rid of this book without a second thought.』

(Reviewing "The Warlord Wants Forever" novella, not the rest...)
『I've only read the "Warlord Wants Forever" novilla in this book, so my review is based only on it, not the other two stories. This novilla is an excellent introduction to the Immortals After Dark series. Although you can start with the full-length "Hunger Like No Other" (another 5-star story) without reading this one, you'll get to know and understand Wroth and Myst much better after this. The plot and pacing was great, with surprisingly well-developed characters for a novella. The chemistry and tension between the hero and heroine were sizzling, and the resolution perfect. Well worth the read.』

(Black and Cole)
『First of all, I have to say I was disappointed with the writing style of Kenyon. I'm a fan of hers, but this story read like a script for a cheap porn film. And I'm not talking about the sex. The characters themselves were cheap as was the dialogue. Really bad dialogue too.

Moving on, Black's story of a kidnapped woman turned over for money to some underground living Vikings was difficult to swallow, but the tension in the victim and her attraction to her "buyer" came through the pages. Being put on an auction block is something I thought I'd have a hard time reading, but the Viking was made to be not so much of an "Owner" as more of a prospective husband and lover. Sounds odd, but the guy came through as caring and loving. Cole's storyline of a Valkyrie and Vampire was a fun read with witty dialogue and sexual tension. I'm a big fan of Kresley Cole and wasn't disppointed in this short story at all.

After finishing this book, I'll probably find out what else Jaid Black has to offer and stick with Cole. Kenyon and the price of this book ($10 for three short stories!!!) were the biggest turnoffs for me.』

(Playing Easy to Get)
『I am giving the this trilogy a 3 star rating overall. The individual stories are uneven in their quality.

The first story "Turn up the Heat" by Sherrilyn Kenyon is the weakest of the 3 novellas. The relationship between the 2 main characters was ill-defined. It might have been a better story if it was longer and had more detail.
I would only give this story 1 1/2 stars.

The second story "Hunter's Oath" by Jaid Black was actually very interesting. The underground Viking world of New Sweden, etc. was fascinating. The chemistry between the two main characters was also great. Although this story was self-contained enough to be a novella, the author should consider a future novel set in this underworld as it was an interesting concept. I'd give this story 3 stars.

The third story "The Warlord Wants Forever" by Kresley Cole was great. However, I have to admit that I am biased since I am a big fan of her "Immortals After Dark" series. I actually bought this trilogy for this reason, as the story is a prequel to "The Immortals After Dark" series. This novella is about Myst(a Valkyrie) and Wroth (a Vampire). There are many references of this pair in several of Cole's later novels, so it was fun to hear their story in more detail. The story is humorous, sexy, and fully-developed. I'd give this story 5 stars.

(4 stars for the last story)
『The first story is so-so nothing to wag a tale at. It's about a girl who works at Wally World and just got dumped. She's your all American pie type of blonde hair, blue eyed cutie. The hero is an x-mobster who has a bounty on his head. His outrageously rich friend puts him on a Fantasy Island to be an extra in some chicks "dream come true" vacation so that he can be under the radar and stay alive. The two meet up on an the island where she is a the winner of a fantasy week (she gets to play out her fav romance novel). This is where the story goes from alright to somewhat corny. After all she is playing out a romance novel so it's very soap opera kind of stuff. There were times that if I was not reading it I would of wanted to put my hand over my eyes in embarrassment. When the two hook up it's again nothing to write home about, just average. 1 and a half stars.

The second story is about a woman whose' brother just died in Alaska. She is from FL so clearly AK is not her bag. She is kidnapped at the AK airport by a taxi cab driver who sells her to some Vikings underground in the AK wilderness. I know, totally strange and terrible considering her bro just kicked the bucket. Turns out these Vikings are right out of the dark ages and have some sort of civilization underground. Anyway, she is auctioned off to the highest bidder buck naked in an open arena (okay?); naturally the Viking who buys her happens to be one hell of a hot dude. He takes her home, they spend a week getting to know each other better in bed and then the story is cut short and really has no point. 2 stars cause at least the sex is good.

The last story is by Kresley Cole and is so good it should be its own novel. It blows the other two stories clear out of the water and if I was the other writers I'd want to crawl under a rock. It's about a Vampire and a Druid/Elf and its hot hot hot!!! Great story and after you read it make sure you check out Kresley's others books which are some of the best paranormal romances out there.

New York Timesbestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon and rising stars Jaid Black and Kresley Cole unlock the pleasures and perils of embracing the boldest and most powerful of lovers -- 100% alpha males -- in three sensually erotic tales. Discover the physical rapture of his muscular arms.... Become a prisoner of passion, swept away by an encounter with his primal side.... And get lost in the all-consuming thrill of white-hot pursuit by a relentless stranger who may be your most dangerous foe, the best lover you've ever had -- or both.

Let your fantasies run wild with these unforgettable novellas where bigger is most definitely better -- and playing easy-to-get is the only way to go!』

(A delightful christmas book)
『Kissing Santa Claus has three sexy stories by three of today's hottest romance writers

Lock, Stock, and Jingle Bells by Donna Kauffman has Holly Berry Bennett taking over her parents business Santa's Workshop. Pity Holly and Christmas don't get along. She plans on only being home a short time. Holly didn't plan on Sean Gallagher becoming more then just a blast from the past.

Jill Shalvis story Bah, Handsome! has Hope O'Brien struggling to keep her B&B above water. She is trying to payback a loan from the devil, AKA her stepbrother. He sends his CPA to check up on Hope. Danny Shaw doesn't much care for his boss business practices but he comes to the B&B to see how close Hope is to repaying her debt. Spending time helping Hope has opened his eyes to what really is important in life.

It's Hotter At Christmas by HelenKay Dimon has Marissa Brandt having a heck of a time trying to leave Hawaii. First her purse is stolen, then her room is ransacked and the local law is on her case. Deputy Police Chief Ted Green is determined to get Marissa off his island before she gets into more trouble. Ted has been burnt by a mainlander before and doesn't want it to ever happen again. Once Marissa worms her way into his heart will he be able to let her go?

Kissing Santa Claus is a wonderful holiday treat. It will warm your heart and your soul. You can't go wrong with stories by these three delightful authors.

(It's the perfect book to put you in the holiday mood.)
『LOCK, STOCK AND JINGLE BELLS by Donna Kauffman
Holly despises the holiday season and her parents' enthusiasm for it only intensifies her feelings. Sharing her birthday with Christmas certainly doesn't help matters any either. Now her parents have opted to retire and gift her with her mother's beloved Christmas novelty shop which means leaving her home in London and making some major decisions about what to do with the business. The last thing she expects is some sound advice and a lot of sexy merrymaking with her childhood friend Sean. Can she possibly create a new life and dreams from what she believes is one of the worst things that has happened to her?

I had to giggle at Holly's horrified reaction to becoming the proud owner of her mother's Christmas themed shop, but once Sean steps into the picture there's no doubt that some dreams can come true and that theme continues throughout this gem of a story.

BAH HANDSOME! By Jill Shalvis
With less than a month left to come up with the money to pay back her stepbrother Edward the money he lent her for her B&B Hope isn't exactly in the mood for making merry and wishing on mistletoe for something to keep her warm at night. Her employee Lori certainly isn't above making that wish for her though. Unfortunately the only man who appears is Edward's CPA Danny Shaw. So much for Christmas wishes! But with a little help from the B&B staff Danny may just get the opportunity to prove to Hope that he only has her best interests at heart.

Never has a CPA been more sexy or exciting! Danny's refusal to accept any of Hope's dismissive gestures had me rooting for him to the very end. What makes this story even more endearing are the employees matchmaking efforts - when they aren't sneaking off to make out themselves that is!

IT'S HOTTER AT CHRISTMAS by Helenkay Dimon
All Marissa wants is to return home to enjoy an East Coast snowy Christmas but she's suffered one problem after another and it's looking like she'll never get a break from the sandy beaches of Hawaii. The last thing she needs is tall, dark and sexy police officer Ted's condescending attitude. After all, it's not like she asked for her wallet and all her ID to be stolen or her hotel room broken into, now did she? Fortunately Ted has a few ideas on how to make Marissa's holiday one she'll never forget.

I believe this may be my favorite story in this anthology simply because of Marissa's lack of self-preservation once she's irritated and Ted's calm condescending demeanor - add a bit of sexual energy and they definitely could use a bit of snow to cool them off.

KISSING SANTA CLAUS is a praiseworthy contemporary anthology full of hunky heroes and sassy heroines. Each story brought a smile to my face and a chuckle to my heart as the characters struggle through their own personal conflicts. Whether you're a big fan of the holiday season or wish the whole month of December would fall off the map Christmas themed stories seem to always strike a chord and instill a sense of hope into the reader's heart.

KISSING SANTA CLAUS is Donna Kauffman, Jill Shalvis&HelenKay Dimon's second collaboration. The first, TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT, was released in October 2008.

(three lighthearted holiday frolics)
『"Lock, Stock and Jingle Bells" by Donna Kauffman. Although her parents gave her their Christmas store, Holly Berry loathes the holiday season and having to return from London to Willow Creek, Virginia to run her place. However, this year looks promising as she will work alongside of her high school fantasy Sean Gallagher.

"Bah Handsome!" by Jill Shalvis. Hope O'Brien has no hope except for her first name as her B&B is failing and the debts make the federal government seem fiscally balanced. Her miserly stepbrother sends his accountant Danny Shaw to collect what his sibling owes him; not realizing that Danny and Hope find a gift with their attraction for one another.

"It's Hotter at Christmas" by HelenKay Dimon. Marissa Brandt came to Hawaii from Philadelphia for a holiday vacation, but never expected a hotel arrest by a hunk of a cop Ted Greene who wants to keep her safe from a thief who seems to have targeted her and hopes to persuade her to stay on Kauai with him for decades of holiday joy together.

These are three lighthearted holiday frolics that fans will agree bring joy to the reader.

Harriet Klausner

『Three hottie humbugs find holiday magic where they least expect it. . . Donna Kauffman Lock, Stock and Jingle Bells Holly hates the yuletide season more than ever since she inherited her mother's Christmas novelty store, but her childhood pal Sean's determined to warm her up--to Christmas and to him. When they uncover a diary concealing secrets involving both their families, this could be the Christmas that changes their lives forever. . .

Jill Shalvis Bah Handsome!

Behind on her bills, B&B owner Hope receives an unlikely guest--stranded solicitor Danny, who's been threatening to put her out of business. Hope's staff sees more fire than fight in the sparks that fly as they try and bring Hope and Danny together, but only a Christmas miracle can help these unlikely lovers see the light. . .

Helenkay Dimon It's Hotter at Christmas

Hawaii's no paradise for Marissa, who, thanks to a series of unfortunate events, can't seem to get away from the sand to enjoy her Christmas East Coast style--with plenty of snow and slush. But tall, dark, and serious police officer Ted's about to give this bad Santa in heels a Mele Kalikimaka she'll never forget. . .
