(Great Gift) 『Really great gift for a golfer. Bought it for my husband but both of us have very much enjoyed. Photos are great, printing quality is very fine. There are recountings of several epic lays but there are plenty of other stories and images; widely varied, entertaining and interesting. So much so that we've been inspired to plan trips to a couple of the locations in the book.』
(A magnificent golf book) 『A truly inspired book made of pictures that are both nice to look at and evocative of the terrible places where our balls will lie every now and then.... A superbly shot series of images that will surely delight any golfer. Especially because he can have some relief in seeing other golfers' balls in places even worse than the ones where he sent his ones last week. Recommended!

(Lost Balls review) 『Thought it was a great book, loved the photos,he included a lot of courses that were unknown, but forgot Shiskine: http://forelinksters.com/course/shiskine_golf_and_tennis_club_isle_of_arran 』 『Charles Lindsay's photographs offer a humorous and inquisitive foray into the hazards where golf balls are lost--rough, woods, bunkers, and wetlands--as well as unexpected encounters with wildlife on and off the green. An avid golfer with plenty of experience losing balls, Lindsay photographs his way to the heart of the game with a light touch and an eye for telling details. In the process, he discovers balls ravaged by golfers, gators, and foxes--and lost for over a century.
Lindsay even encounters what is believed to be the world's oldest golf ball--unearthed in a cellar in the Netherlands alongside a primitive club.
The photographs were taken at celebrated courses in North America, England, Scotland, and Ireland: Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, Bethpage, Fossil Trace, Troon, St. Andrews, Royal St. Georges, Ballybunion, Old Head, and many others.
The foreword by John Updike is a celebration of golf and nature and where the two meet. A humorous story by golf giant Greg Norman rounds out the book.』

You can tell the authors are well versed in The Golfing Machine but put it in terms one can understand.
An excellent book.
Other books of note that are excellent is anything written by Jim Hardy, Hank Haney, Stan Utley or Dave Pelz.』
(Most Beneficial Golf Book since "Five Lessons"? Perhaps!) 『I've played to a low single digit handicap for years, and though I enjoyed the process of working on my own swing, I'd go through lengthy periods of time when I was searching for the key to my swing. Invariably, I'd find something, play well for a few rounds, and then enter another lull.
This year I decided to work with a Stack and Tilt instructor. Like many, I misunderstood a lot of the principles and had a lot of misconceptions about the swing, but with 20 or so PGA Tour players taking to it, I reconsidered. I'm glad I did - this year has been one of the most productive in my golf career. Not only do I know how to swing, I know how to fix it when things go awry.
Stack and Tilt is a fairly simple method of playing good golf, but nobody can do it alone. If you can't find an instructor nearby, this book does a great job as a stand-in (and if you can find an instructor, this book is a great reminder between lessons). The book's photos wonderfully illustrate the concepts and the instructions are simple, clear, and concise. Not only are the positions and ideas explained thoroughly, but PGA Tour pros contribute their "feelings" and "sensations" to help players who are helping themselves.
The book is more than a "here is how to swing the club" guide as well. The last third of the book is invaluable to golfers as it contains drills, common faults and their fixes, and much more. This book does more to actually help the golfer in 240 or so pages than most golf instructional books do in 400. It's not much of a stretch to call this potentially the most beneficial golf instruction book since Hogan's "Five Lessons."
Even if you're not a fan of the Stack and Tilt swing, I encourage you to pick up this book. Read the first chapter - I think you may change your mind. Implement some of the principles of the swing and, when you start beating your buddies, the book will pay for itself in no time. :-)』
(The best thing you can do to your golf swing) 『I had pre-ordered this book from amazon.com. Great idea to publish a book. These guys need to be put at the same level as Ben Hogan or above. They are the only ones that can make a difference in all golfers. Nothing else works out there I have tried them all. Even 3 years of lessons, every week did not get me to where I am now. Stack and tilt is the swing of the future and this book sets in stone. I switched to the S&T swing 3 months ago when I purchased the DVDs. The best thing I ever did. You just have to be patient and stick to the basics if you run into any problems. Otherwise, its the quickest and easiest way to become a great golfer.』
(A great learning tool) 『The book is all you could ever expect from a well-balanced set of golf lessons. Much better than the DVDs themselves. I recommend it to anyone looking for the definitive guide on the Stack and Tilt Golf Swing. If you can't learn the swing from this book, you can't learn it from anyone.』
(Will be one of the classics) 『Portions of this book equal or exceed anything ever written in terms of golf instruction. The way the book is put together with comments from golfers, the instructors and the photos far exceeds my expectation. Should be in every golf library. Will be one of the classics in the test of time. How can I get my copy signed?』 『An in-depth, full-color, step-by-step guide to the new golf swing that has taken the PGA Tour by storm
The traditional golf swing requires a level of coordination that few golfers have. So it's no surprise that, despite huge advances in club and ball technology, the average golf handicap in America has dropped by only one stroke since 1990. Maverick golf instructors Michael Bennett and Andy Plummer spent a decade researching the swing, eventually combining physiology and physics to create a method they dubbed the "Stack and Tilt." The result? Big-name pros like Mike Weir, Tommy Armour III, and Aaron Baddeley are already converts, and Bennett and Plummer are now two of the most soughtafter swing coaches in the game.
Making these breakthroughs available to everyone,The Stack and Tilt Swingis a handsome, fully illustrated, complete course, packed with more than two hundred full-color photographs that make it easy for golfers at all levels to adopt this radical yet simple approach. Analyzing why the traditional swing won't work for most golfers, the authors explain the importance of keeping the upper body stacked over the lower body, while the spine tilts toward the target during the backswing, greatly reducing the inconsistencies created by the old-fashioned approach. Enhanced with practice routines, a troubleshooting list, test cases, and point-by-point assistance, this is the breakthrough guide to golf's hot new secret weapon.』

The year: 1956. Four decades have passed since Eddie Lowery came to fame as the ten-year-old caddie to U.S. Open Champion Francis Ouimet. Now a wealthy car dealer and avid supporter of amateur golf, Lowery has just made a bet with fellow millionaire George Coleman. Lowery claims that two of his employees, amateur golfers Harvie Ward and Ken Venturi, cannot be beaten in a best-ball match. Lowery challenges Coleman to bring any two golfers of his choice to the course at 10 a.m. the next day to settle the issue.
Coleman accepts the challenge and shows up with his own power team: Ben Hogan and Byron Nelson, the game's greatest living professionals, with fourteen major championships between them.
In Mark Frost's peerless hands, complete with the recollections of all the participants, the story of this immortal foursome and the game they played that day--legendarily known in golf circles as the greatest private match ever played--comes to life with powerful, emotional impact and edge-of-your-seat suspense.』

(A Must Read!) 『First let me apologize for the lengthy letter. I get a bit wordy. > >I have been an avid golfer since the early '70's. My Dad ran a golf league >until his passing in 1995. Losing my "golfing buddy" I lost interest in >the game and have not played since. > >A few months ago, a friend of mine, mentioned that they would like to learn the >game and asked if I could teach her. Her decision has sparked new interest >for me so I decided to start playing again. I used to be a 12 handicap and >would like to eventually get back to that level of playing. > >Unfortunately, I am the type that suffers from the 'glass being half >empty' syndrome. For many reasons (that I won't get into), I have a >negative attitude about things and anger easily. I have been athletic all >my life and did very well in sports. Most sports came naturally to me, >except golf, where I had to work hard at it just to become decent. Maybe >that's why I am drawn to the game. > >Playing years ago, I put a lot of pressure on myself and when I didn't do >well I would get upset and sometimes throw clubs. My Dad used to tell me >to stay calm and relax since the attitude would definitely effect my next >and future shots. But like most young people, we think we know more than >everyone else and although his advice made sense, I could never keep my >cool. And yes, my next shots were bad and I would get madder and on and on >and on. > >As I am now 53, I have calmed a bit but still get upset over stupid things >(especially in daily life) and although I don't throw clubs anymore, I do >get down on myself when I don't hit the ball or score well. I try to teach >my friend about staying positive and maintaining a good attitude, but I >sometimes do not set the right example. > >When I practice at golf, I strive hard to have the "right" swing. In golf, >I read articles on technique and what to do and what NOT to do. I try >different grips, stances and swings. Sometimes these changes work for >awhile and sometimes they don't. But I keep trying. I have had the >pleasure in the sports that I have played to experience "being in the >zone". It's a great feeling (as you know). In bowling, I feel that I could >throw between my legs and still get a strike. In basketball, I could close >my eyes and swish the basket and in golf, I feel as if I could hit the >ball with the back of the club and put a 150 yard shot 5 feet from the >pin. You can do no wrong. Then there are times that I can't hit the ball >50 yards. I get the "shanks" and feel as if it's the first time picking up >a club. I don't know if it's technique or mental or whatever, but I >literally lose the swing completely. > >But I keep trying and changing things, usually to no avail. Then while >watching the Golf Channel I saw a program on the 10 worst swings in golf. >These people had horrible swings (for pros) but yet they make it work for >them. My swing is far from horrible but I then decided to keep what I have >and work with it. I also decided to look into the mental aspect of the >game. > >I have always known that golf is a hugely mental game (hence the "zone") >but never read or learned anything about it. So, while researching items >on the Internet, I stumbled across Zen Golf. I went into the reading with >an open mind and was fascinated on the part of visualization. Although >this is common sense (to me), I have never applied it. Another part about >not letting your thoughts interfere with you was also helpful. I remember >about a month ago, I had a badly bruised rib. Every time I swung the club, >I experienced intense pain. I was forced to slow my tempo down. Guess >what? I hit the ball fantastically, long and straight. One, because I >slowed my tempo down and two, because the only thought I had was my rib. >No thinking about head down, arm straight, follow through, that last bad >shot, etc. My thoughts were primarily clear and didn't interfere with me. >I know this isn't exactly what you are teaching, but so far this is a >pre-Zen example of mine that I can relate to. > >But more importantly, the visualization technique. I went to the course >today and applied this principle. Before every shot, I visualized what I >wanted and/or visualized the smoothness of a great swing or feeling of >being in the zone. It worked, especially on the first hole when you are >not loose and everyone is watching. It's a 185 yard par 3 and I was going >to hit a hybrid and swing very easy but I took my 5 iron and trusted my >swing and visualized what I wanted. Bam! It hit just a couple yards right >of the green. But I hit it, on the sweet spot, exactly the way I >visualized it > >I used the techniques all day and it worked beautifully! I shot 7 strokes >better than ever on that course! Usually on the middle holes, I start to >loose my swing (like always) and I'm usually a goner for the rest of the >round. This time, I started to lose the swing, but I kept my composure, >accepted it and it only lasted two holes and then I came back like >gangbusters. I consistently was hitting long irons smooth, straight and >long! Never did that before so consistently. My putting was very good >also. If I missed a lengthy putt, it was missed by only about a foot. >Incredible! The 18th hole was a 155 yards, into the wind, par 3. I trusted >my 7 iron and visualized a smooth and straight shot. Stuck it 7 feet from >the pin. > >So I will work with the swing I have (making minor changes at times) and >be happy and accept it. I will also apply the book's principles and hopefully >someday I will break 80(82 is my best) and may even get into >single digit handicaps. > >I will re-read/study, this book, many times after I finish reading it the first time. Oh, did I forget to >mention. I am only on page 60! > >』
(An excellent component to your overall golf game) 『I bought the audio book before an annual golf tournament as something to get me mentally ready for four days of competitive golf with friends. The short of it is: this system works. I am a 16 handicap and shot 84, 95, 89 and 85 to win the tournament (all of the golfers are 16-20 handicappers and we play a regular stroke play tournament). Most golf rounds I play I shoot between 86 and 90, with an occasional mid to high 90's round and a few rounds below 85. What is important to consider is that my lowest score EVER is 84 and I shot that score and and 85 on courses I'd never played before (!).
What this book specifically helped me to do is the following: 1) focus on your target and close out everything else; 2) stay in the present through effective breathing; 3) practice effectively; 4) eliminate "anyway shots"; and 5) to fall in love with the process of golf and the challenge of the day.
If you read this book and apply these principles, I have no doubt you will be successful as well.』 『Vijay Singh, Masters and PGA Champion, says, "ZEN GOLF is the best book there is for connecting golf and the mind together. It's for everyone, and you're going to enjoy it. I keep it in my golf bag and take it with me everywhere." Charles Howell III says, "The techniques in ZEN GOLF for working with negative thoughts are better than any other psychological approach." In chapters such as "Never Keep More Than a Hundred Thoughts in Your Mind During Your Swing", "Isn't Where You Have to Play It From Punishment Enough?" and "How to Enjoy a Bad Round of Golf", the Dr. Joe Parent, a PGA TOUR Instructor, guides golfers with simple yet powerful techniques to prepare for, execute, and, equally important, respond to the results of any golf shot. The author draws on his teaching experience and sense of humor to offer special methods that have led to amazing improvements in the games of professionals and amateurs alike. By applying classic insights and stories from the Buddhist tradition to the challenges of golf, ZEN GOLF shows you how to make your mind an ally instead of an enemy: how to stay calm, clear the interference that leads to poor shots, and eliminate bad habits and mental mistakes. Clear, concise, and enlightening, this book introduces a unique perspective combining modern psychology, Buddhist wisdom and professional golf instruction. Zen Golf shapes ancient philosophies into new teachings, leading golfers to the effortless focus and unconditional confidence of being in "the zone."』
From 50 yards and in, no golfer in history has demonstrated more talent, flair, creativity, and precision—or generated more raw excitement—than Phil Mickelson.
His ability with the sand wedge and putter are legendary not only with fans but also among his peers, and it is his skill with those clubs that is primarily responsible for his success: winning 36 tournaments on the PGA Tour (including three major championships) and representing the United States in seven Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup competitions. In his first-ever instruction book, Phil Mickelson explains in detail how to master every phase of the short game: putting, chipping, sand play, pitching, and his forte, the flop and lob shots.
Mickelson maintains that any golfer of average ability can become a deadly short-game player by approaching the subject with a blend of science (proper mechanics and setup) and art (imagination and feel). Mickelson explains the how and why of his innovative technique, combining wisdom gleaned from hard experience with discoveries from his own fertile imagination. His advice is the product of 34 years of experimentation and trial and error by a talented athlete devoted to his sport.
Illustrated with 200 original instructional photographs and filled with personal tips, tricks, and secrets, this book gives all golfers a personal lesson with Phil Mickelson.

(This is the Golf Bible!) 『I've had this book for 20 years now, I still read it from time to time as it's interesting for me to read again and again.
And yes, like those comments above, you don't need to buy any of those golf gimmicks or trust golf instructors who have never played professional tour golf. I just think Ben Hogan has layed out the best set of golf instructions, well, if you've read the book, you know what I mean.
I play pro golf now and sometimes I try new golf techniques and find myself reverting back to Ben Hogan's modern fundamentals of golf.
If you look at every golf book made today about Tiger Woods, there's at least one mention back to this very book.
This book is also the "last" book Mr. Hogan wrote. There's another book called Power Golf by Ben Hogan but don't read that one because he wrote that when he was hooking everything, not winning all the majors.
This book is the most accurate description of what Ben Hogan wanted in his book.
Btw, Ben Hogan started making golf clubs. When there was a tiny error in his new golf clubs, he threw away like 300,000 sets of golf clubs to make new ones.
If he did that think what he put into this book. Thank you very much.』
(Fundamentals for every golfer) 『A classic golf book for every golfer. However, one must be aware that Hogan himself admited in the book that these are only the basics, the ABC of golf.』
(The Golf Swing Foundation) 『This book is a must have for all golf enthusists. Ben Hogans descriptions are written in detail to give the reader great insight on how the swing should really work. There are no quick fixes or patches to the golf swing. Hogans fundamentals will not only increase your knowledge of the golf swing but advance your game. Easy reading with great illustrations..』
(I have owned nearly a dozen copies of this book) 『and always end up giving them away. And it doesn't take long until I buy another copy. My uncle gave me this book some 20 years ago. It laid around until I finally read it. If it didn't change my life, it certainly changed my golf game by about 10 strokes. Bare fundamentals, grip, stance, balance and set up, back swing and down swing, on plane. All down to what seems like the most minute and meaningless detail. But that's what makes it great. There are no wasted words, no fluff, all straight to the point just like any good technical book. So it gets given away and I end up buying another copy in a year or so when the game starts going to the dogs. I never even get to the back swing before it starts coming back together. Hogan even says, if you can't get hold of the club and setup to the ball correctly, then rest can't work consistently. Outside of your head, the setup is at least 70% of the battle. I've tweaked my grip from Arnold Palmer advice, and my natural plane is a little higher than Ben's. That doesn't change that this book builds the most compact, consistent swing you can get. There is nothing else that lays it out like this book does, and you can take that to the best golf course you can get on. You can talk about "feel" all day, but when you really want to make that shot, you have to have solid mechanics.』 『
The building blocks of winning golf -- from one of the masters of the game.
Ben Hogan, one of the greatest golfers in the history of the sport, believed that any golfer with average coordination can learn to break 80 -- if one applies oneself patiently and intelligently. With the techniques revealed in this classic book, you can learn how to make your game work from tee to green, step-by-step and stroke by stroke.
In each chapter, a different tested fundamental is explained and demonstrated with clear illustrations -- as though Hogan were giving you a personal lesson with the same skill and precision that made him a legend. Whether you're a novice player or an experienced pro,Ben Hogan's Five Lessonsis a must-have reference for anyone who knows that fundamentals are where champions begin.』
『Ben Hogan's premise in this 1957 classic is driven home in bold letters: "THE AVERAGE GOLFER IS ENTIRELY CAPABLE OF BUILDING A REPEATING SWING AND BREAKING 80." Religions are founded on less, and Hogan's detailed analyses and illustrated demonstrations of grip, stance, posture, and the two basic components of the swing make up a sacred book. Though its very simplicity seems dated, this is the tome of technique that should serve as the foundation of every golf library.』

(what to do, not how to do it) 『Customers who buy golf instruction books are looking for guidance, not slogans. Jones was a sloganeer who claimed basically that he could tell you what to feel (the clubhead swinging) but not how to feel it. Those who hope to play this way might profit from a utube video of Harry Vardon, who swung the clubhead better than anyone ever has. The idea is to picture the downswing ARC of the clubhead and to get as much speed into that arc as possible. How exactly does one do this? Jones doesn't say. Vardon claimed he used the forefinger and thumb of each hand to control the club, and Jones echoes this idea. I have found it helpful to try for maximum clubhead speed not at the ball but rather away from the ball, to try in fact to accelerate the clubhead toward a backward extension of the target line. This achieves a powerful arc through the ball, and the greatest difficulty is learning to trust that it will work. Professional golfers no longer play this way but so what? I suspect it makes precision more difficult, but at least you get to wonder each time whether you will hit the ball flush or miss it entirely. Moreover, there is no stress upon the back, no deliberate turning of the shoulders or hips, nothing to worry about or even to think about except the correct arc of the clubhead. Just make certain you understand that arc moves on an inclined plane. When you stand square to your target line and make this swing correctly, you will feel the ball has to go well to the right of your target. That is an illusion. The ball will go straight. You may wonder what all the fuss in golf is about. I have often wondered myself.』
(Best golf swing book.) 『This was by far the best golf swing book I have ever read. With this and Take dead aim. My golf game will improve. This will take a little getting used to. On my first try at the range I was much more relaxed and hit the ball just as far and straighter. Stop complaining about your clubs and buying the latest tech gear and learn to swing the club.』
(An Essential Golf Book) 『I only wish I'd connected with a golf instructor with Ernest Jones' teaching method when I first learned to golf 35 years ago. This classic book is more important and spot-on than ever, with his simple and fundamental ideas about swinging the clubhead on an arc.
So much modern golf instruction is cluttered with hundreds of different and confusing details about the endless positions in a golf swing. These positions might be important to pinpointing a specific problem in a swing, but Jones understood that the individual golfer needs to get most of these details out of his mind when he makes his swing and instead focus on the important action of making a properly-arced swing.
In reading other reviews, it sounds like there are some problems with the naming of this book and a conflict with other editions, but this is still a very valuable and fundamental treatise about golf instruction. Golf is a very difficult sport to play well, but if you apply yourself to Jones' principles, you will enjoy yourself much more on the course by de-cluttering your head from the minutia of details and ideas you'll find on the instructional pages of Golf or Golf Digest. 』
(Stick to the fundamentals to play better golf) 『This is a book about the fundamentals and offered a whole new dimension to my thinking about the swing. I think this book is every bit as relevent as it was when written. Perhaps it becomes even more so as the golfer is inundated with the mechanics driven and fault detection methods offered by the golf publishing industry in this new century.』 『The teachings of Ernest Jones are of a distant generation, yet no one with the possible exception of Percy Boomer, has such an influence on modern day golf instruction. Jones is quoted in countless magazine articles, and golf instruction books by well known players and teachers, including Jack Nicklaus, and Gary McCord. McCord, most well known for his humor in golf broadcasts, is a very intelligent and serious student of the golf swing. In his book Golf for Dummies, McCord lists Swing the Clubhead as one of his Top Ten Golf Books.』

Most of these type of books generally raise the awareness of common sense like focus on the target, etc. This book provides good testimonials, examples, etc. to bring home the real purpose. Easy to read. Though I haven't put it to practice yet, I know it will help my game. Already picked up his other book on putting.』
(Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect) 『This item was as described by the seller and came within the time promised. Best of all, it was exactly the book I needed! I'd highly recommend the book to anyone struggling with their golf game.』
(Top Notch) 『This is not a book intended to teach swings, strokes, putts or the mechanics of golf.
It is however a fantastic book relegated to the mental aspects of the game from our personal level. As he states, there is no magic to the common sense he applies, it is just raising our awareness of how not to beat ourselves up over the less than perfect shots.
Very readable at 222 pages. We would highly recommend this book to anyone who has frustrations and wants to put the fun back into their game.
I was doing some struggling but I applied what I read in the first third of the book to my rather static game , shaved 3 strokes off my next round and enjoyed the round more than any thus far this year. My wife even comented after the round about how relaxed I appeared and how well my shots looked compared to past rounds.』
(Improve your golf game!) 『Having received the CD of "Golf is not a game of perfect" I now have a pre game routine of listing to the CD before a round of golf....it really helps to keep me focused during a round and improve my tempo while playing....』
(The Missing Link for My Game) 『I picked this book up at a local bookstore while browsing and was quickly intrigued. I had been struggling to break 80 lately, since I don't get to play golf as much I'd like. Usually no more than once a week. I had been practicing more, thinking working on my mechanics, etc. would help me improve, but to no avail. After reading this book, it changed my philosophy on how I approach my practices and rounds. I'm now much more relaxed and focused and now 'trust' my swing. I especially liked his thoughts on putting and the importance of working on your inside 120 yards game. Since finishing the book, my last 5 rounds have been 78, 79, 78, 77, and 76. Heading in the right direction!』 『
Dr. Bob Rotella is one of the hottest performance consultants in America today. Among his many professional clients are Nick Price (last year's Player of the Year), Tom Kite, Davis Love III, Pat Bradley, Brad Faxon, John Daly, and many others. Rotella, or "Doc," as most players refer to him, goes beyond just the usual mental aspects of the game and the reliance on specific techniques. What Rotella does here in this extraordinary book, and with his clients, is to create an attitude and a mindset about all aspects of a golfer's game, from mental preparation to competition. The most wonderful aspect of it all is that it is done in a conversational fashion, in a dynamic blend of anecdote and lesson. And, as some of the world's greatest golfers will attest, the results are spectacular. Golfers will improve their golf gameandhave more fun playing. Some of Rotella's maxims include:
* On the first tee, a golfer must expect only two things of himself: to have fun, and to focus his mind properly on every shot. * Golfers must learn to love 'the challenge when they hit a ball into the rough, trees, or sand. The alternatives -- anger, fear, whining, and cheating -- do no good. * Confidence is crucial to good golf. Confidence is simply the aggregate of the thoughts you have about yourself. * It is more important to be decisive than to be correct when preparing to play any golf shot or putt.
Filled with delightful and insightful stories about golf and the golfers Rotella works with,Golf Is Not a Game of Perfectwill improve the game of even the most casual weekend player.』
『One of golf guru Jim Flick's mantras is that golf is 90 percent mental, and the other 10 percent is mental, too. Dr. Bob Rotella, a noted sports psychologist and performance consultant, roots around the golfer's mind to expose--and analyze--the doubts, the fears, and the frustrations that haunt anyone who's ever picked up a club and swung it. Through anecdote and aphorism he suggests how these mental and emotional hazards can be played through, and, regardless of skill level, how teeing off with a more positive and confident outlook will translate into better performance.』

(A Must Read for Anyone Planning a Trip to Ireland, Golfer and Non-Golfer Alike) 『How this guy convinced his sainted wife to let him golf in Ireland for 4 months with a series of friends could be a book unto itself (and no doubt a best seller). This was one of the most enjoyable books I've read in a long time. Coyne captures not only the character of just about every links course in Ireland but also the character of the Irish people themselves. Coyne's coverage of the pubs and B&B's he encounters along the way are better than any travel guide you'll ever find. My family and I went to one of the pubs he recommended this summer (the Beach Bar). We had one of the most enjoyable meals we've every had in Ireland. Reading one passage on a business trip about the "Incident" had me laughing so loud the flight attendant asked me to put the book down. I eagery await Coyne's next book (how about walking from Malin Head to Kinsale and playing every parkland course?). Well done!』
(Fantastic Book About Ireland, Golf and Life) 『Just finished this book today. What a great read. Coyne has a great sense of humor and an ear for irony that makes this much more than a golf book. Anyone who has traveled to Ireland will relate to the many funny situations that he encounters along the way. He toured the country in 2007 at the height of the Celtic Tiger economy and his insights on how much the country has changed in just the last 20 years are spot on.
Bravo to the author - can't wait to see how you follow up this one.』
(Great book) 『My husband loved this book, he recieved it as a gift. We have since purchased it for two people.』
(An amazing golf journey - chocked full of fun and surprises) 『When I first was introduced to "A Course Called Ireland - A Long Walk in Serach of a Country, a Pint, and the Next Tee", I thought it would be a typical travelogue book on Irish Golf. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was a delightful tale full of "craic" (fun, mischief). I felt like I was on the journey with the author. I loved it so much I wrote a full review of the book and interviewed the author, Tom Coyne on my golf blog. http://www.golfgal-blog.com/2009/07/live-vicariously-through-tom-coynes.html
Now I'm going to buy his other two books.』 『The hysterical story bestseller about one man's epic Celtic sojourn in search of ancestors, nostalgia, and the world's greatest round of golf
By turns hilarious and poetic,A Course Called Irelandis a magnificent tour of a vibrant land and paean to the world's greatest game in the tradition of Bill Bryson'sA Walk in the Woods. In his thirties, married, and staring down impending fatherhood, Tom Coyne was familiar with the last refuge of the adult male: the golfing trip. Intent on designing a golf trip to end all others, Coyne looked to Ireland, the place where his father has taught him to love the game years before. As he studied a map of the island and plotted his itinerary, it dawn on Coyne that Ireland was ringed with golf holes. The country began to look like one giant round of golf, so Coyne packed up his clubs and set off to play all of it-on foot.
A Course Called Irelandis the story of a walking-averse golfer who treks his way around an entire country, spending sixteen weeks playing every seaside hole in Ireland. Along the way, he searches out his family's roots, discovers that a once-poor country has been transformed by an economic boom, and finds that the only thing tougher to escape than Irish sand traps are Irish pubs.』
