(The eternal thirst of ambition)
『Savannah, Georgia. This will be the beautiful stage in which a tense drama will take place, when a very wealthy man appears like the principal responsible for the death of his nephew.

The opulence, the double moral and the multiple arms the power has to deal with, are superbly told and ravishingly photographed in this formidable thriller of Clint Eastwood.

Kevin Spacey is particularly effective as the ruthless millionaire, John Cussack is perfect like the irreverent photographer and we have to remark the excellent edition, the superb illumination and the splendid artistic direction that reminded to one of the unsaid influences of Mr. Eastwood: Luchino Visconti.

(Not bad, but the book is much better!)
『This is a very good movie, but the book "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" is so much better. Based on a true story, the film is set in Savannah, Georgia, as a murder mystery unravels and plays out among the city's colorful residents. This film boasts a wonderful cast, especially the Lady Chablis, who portrays herself. However, I just thought that so many of the details from the book were lost in the movie version, especially the characteristics of Savannah's various personalities. Clint Eastwood directed this film, which is surprising because it truly is one of his worst, which is saying a lot because the film is decent. However, Clint probably shouldn't have wasted so much time on his talentless daughter, Allison Eastwood, who didn't do much in the way of acting besides this film...and it's easy to see why! My advice is to read the incredible book first, and then follow up with the film if you so desire.』

(Supernatural in the Air)
『It is a tragic story of a cute bi-hustler and his rich antiques dealer maturer patron as seen by a journalist-writer visiting the Savannah, Virginia, of the fiftieth last century.

Embedded from a notion of a more recent time of past-sexual revolution of seventieth, a general landscape of a tale looks not so racist and homophobic viewer prepared could suggest but ironic and satiric if not simply cynical at the time.

Actors playing are superb, and typical victory of good over evil ends the picture explicitly.

(Kevin Spacy's best performance)
『I vacationed in Savannah this past June. All the guides talk about is the book and this movie. With all the history in that part of the country, I think they are missing the mark. I had seen this movie when it was first released. I recently bought it, hoping to see more of Savannah. I ws disappointed in that respect, but it held my interest. Spacy was perfect in the role of the wealthy guy who lived in that beautiful house. Mercer House. True Crime is always facinating. Joy Wood』

(Classic Flick!)
『This movie is a "must-see" after having vacationed in Savannah with my family. We took the tour, saw the sights, and heard the tales from those Savannahians who were there. This movie is based upon actual events. It is well adapted from "THE Book" and quite a tale, told well!』
『Academy award-winning director clint eastwood helms this story based on john berendt's best-selling book examining contemporary events and unique characters in picturesque savannah, georgia, following a shocking murder. alternately suspenseful, satirical』
『Readers of John Berendt's bestselling novel were bound to be at least somewhat disappointed by this big-screen adaptation, but despite mixed reaction from critics and audiences, there's still plenty to admire about director Clint Eastwood's take on the material. Readers will surely miss the rich atmosphere and societal detail that Berendt brought to his "Savannah story," and the movie can only scratch the surface of Georgian history, tradition, and wealthy decadence underlying Berendt's fact-based murder mystery. Still, Eastwood maintains an assured focus on the wonderful eccentrics of Savannah, most notably a gay Savannah antiques dealer (superbly played by Kevin Spacey), who may or may not have killed his friend and alleged lover (Jude Law). John Cusack plays theTown&Countryjournalist who arrives in Savannah to find much more than he bargained for--including the city's legendary drag queen Lady Chablis (playing "herself")--and John Lee Hancock's smoothly adapted screenplay succeeds in bringing Berendt's characters vividly to life with plenty of flavorful dialogue. In similar fashion to Warner's acclaimed DVD ofL.A. Confidential, this classy DVD includes a behind-the-scenes documentary titledThe Real People in the Gardenand an interactive map tour of Savannah and its most celebrated (or notorious) citizens. The original theatrical trailer is also included.--Jeff Shannon

(One side of the DVD doesn't play)
『I received this DVD on time as promised, however, the widescreen side of the disc doesn't play at the end. VERY DISAPPOINTING!』

(Great movie!!!)
『I love this movie!! I love all the actors in it!!! This movie is so funny!!』

(Cheap Gay Humor)
『Not really quite sure what anyone saw in this turkey. I guess you have to appreciate the casting and Florida locales, but the story was nothing less than annoying. Nathan Lane's character is on one whining and sniveling emotional crisis after another. If that's comedy...I'm missing the point.』

("A Great Film With A Great Cast")
『"The Birdcage" is one of those films that entertains and educates; it's extremely funny, but at the same time it shows its audience that a family can consist of two gay parents who love their child, and will go through anything to make him/her happy. Robin Williams and Nathan Lane star as two gay men who are the parents of a son who is about to get married. The family the son is about to marry into is prominently political, headed by Gene Hackman, so it is important for the gay family to play it "straight". The laughs are plentiful and outrageous, and the music is excellent. Probably one of the best comedies ever made and one of the best films Robin Williams ever starred in, "The Birdcage" came out in 1996 and is now considered by many a classic. The film was directed by Mike Nichols, who directed "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?".
The DVD is pretty much a barebones edition, but the clarity of the film is excellent and the sound strong and impeccable. There is a nice booklet that comes with the set detailing a bit of info on the making of the film. "The Birdcage" grossed over $185,000,000 at the boxoffice. It is a remake of the french classic "La Cage aux Folles".』

(The BIrd Cage)
『This is a fabulously funny movie. Robin Williams is at his best along with a long list of stars. You will laugh start to finish.』
『Lies and deceptionit's all in the family when Robin Williams must convince his future in-laws that he's as upstanding and uptight as they are in "the funniest comedy you'll see this year" (Gene Shalit, "Today Show"). Co-starring Gene Hackman, Nathan Lane, Dianne Wiest, Christine Baranski and Calista Flockhart, The Birdcage is an uproarious comedy that will send your spirits soaring. Armand (Williams) and Albert (Lane) have built the perfect life for themselves tending to their gaudy Miami nightclub. But their pastel tranquility is shaken when Armand's son announces that he's getting married to the daughter of ultra-conservative Senator Keeley (Hackman)...and they're all getting together for dinner! Can Armand and Albert transform themselves into Mr.and Mrs. Family Values in time? It'll take the performance of their lives, but they'll do anythingand everythingto pull the chiffon over Keeley's eyes!』
『The great improvisational comedy team of Mike Nichols and Elaine May reunited to (respectively) direct and write this update of the French comedyLa Cage Aux Folles. Robin Williams stars as a gay Miami nightclub owner who is forced to play it straight and ask his drag-queen partner (Nathan Lane) to hide out when Williams's son invites his prospective--and highly conservative--in-laws and fiancée to a meet-and-greet dinner party. Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest play the straight-laced senator and his wife, and Calista Flockhart (from television'sAlly McBeal) plays their daughter in a culture-clash with outrageous consequences. May's witty screenplay incorporates some pointed observations about the political landscape of the 1990s and takes a sensitive approach to the comedy's underlying drama. Topping off the action is Hank Azaria in a scene-stealing role as Williams's and Lane's flamboyant housekeeper, "Agador Spartacus."--Jeff Shannon

(One Of The Best Classic Movies Ever!!)
『absolutely adore this film, it's so mad, glitzy, camp and crazy that I never tire of it. Granted it's not for everyone, and you need a sense of humour and fun to fully appreciate it, but one you get into it, it's just perfect. The songs are timeless, the cast is sublime and the whole film is in a class of it's own. One thing I do love is the way the film doesn't take itself too seriously, it sends up all those cheesy science fiction films and musicals of the past and never stops for breath. Of course, the film's main draw is the outstanding Tim Curry as Frank-N-Furter. His performance is dazzling and I doubt he'll ever be able to top this. Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick are excellent in thankless roles, and the rest of the supporting cast (Patricia Quinn and Little Nell especially) are all perfect in their different and crazy roles. It's always puzzled me how the film hasn't managed to date, it still looks and sounds as fresh as ever. I'm sure I'm not the only one surprised by the ending too! Rocky Horror is perfect for a fun and sultry night in, so whip out your fishnets and do the timewarp. Go on, you know you want to, your not fooling anyone!』

(Rocky Horror)
『Got my DVD in a timely fashion. It was received as advertised and in good working order. Thank you』

(What merchandise?)
『Ordered this movie over a month ago and still have not received it yet! Still no one will contact me on this matter.』

(Dress Up Done Right)
『Don't dream it, be it!

That is the motto of the hedonistic main character and self-proclaimed "Sweet Transvestite", Frank N. Furter, (the incredible and unabashed Tim Curry), in the cult classic film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. What started out as a Broadway play in England became, (after we here in the States warmed up to it a bit), a widely-loved and highly re-created piece of glitz, glam and transvestites that parodies the worlds of science fiction and horror.

Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon star as Brad and Janet, a newly engaged couple who end up at Dr. Furter's mansion after their car gets a flat tire. They just want to use the phone to call for help. They don't realize that as soon as they step through the door, their lives will be changed forever!

Richard O'Brien, who wrote the screenplay, the script and the music for the film, stars as Riff Raff, Dr. Furter's assistant and "handyman". He and the rest of the group harbor a deeper secret that will evolve into the science fiction-like conclusion of the film.

Magenta, (played by Patricia Quinn), is the mansion's maid and Riff Raff's sister, with whom she shares an unusually close bond. She also shares her bedroom with Columbia.

Columbia, (Nell Campbell), is a groupie to the clan and was apparently brought to the mansion by, and had a former relationship with, Dr. Furter. She was also involved with Eddie, (Meat Loaf), an ex-delivery boy who has been frozen somewhere in the mansion after a portion of his brain was harvested for Dr. Furter's human creation, Rocky Horror.

Rocky, (Peter Hinwood), is Dr. Furter's creation and his embodiment of all that he believes to be masculine and muscular. Furter will stop at nothing to protect his prized creation. Rocky is mute, save for his brief participation in musical numbers. He allows himself to be seduced later on by the no-longer-as-uptight Janet, much to the chagrin of everyone.

Dr. Scott, (Jonathan Adams), is Eddie's uncle and Brad and Janet's former teacher. He shows up at the mansion when he realizes that Eddie has gone missing and suspects that this is where he may have ended up. Unfortunately, he's a bit too late.

The group believes in pleasure to the highest ilk, from pansexuality to lavish musical numbers, anything and everything goes. And we get to learn about these events through the narrator, the criminologist, played by Charles Gray.

The soundtrack is filled with catchy, high-powered gems. "Time Warp" will have you dancing right along, the criminologist giving you the steps as you go. "Hot Patootie" is Eddie's only number but a toe-tapper nonetheless. In "Rose Tint My World", Frank puts on a floor show and here we see the final stages of the transformation of Brad and Janet. Dr. Scott even allows himself to loosen up! "Science Fiction, Double Feature", the film's opener, lists some of the classic horror and science fiction films that, no doubt, helped to influence this production. There are many more delightful tunes in this film that will hook you, even if the story seems a bit ridiculous and the "special effects" seem a tad dated. This is playing dress up at its best!』

(Great picture quality, great features, but the audience tack is terrible)
『The other reviews here talk about the picture and features, which are great.

Except for the audience participation track, which was what I was most interested in.

The comments that the fan club make are rarely "right", and rarely understandable, compared to the midnight shows I went to in NY back in the '70s and '80s.

These people don't even agree with each other about what to say, are constantly over shouting each other to the point that you can barely make out a word, and they Never, Ever, shut up for a second. From the opening Lips shot to the closing credits, it's impossible to hear what either the fans or the characters on screen say.

If a studio ever made a solid attempt to get this part right, I'd buy that version in a heartbeat.』

『Fasten your garter belt and come up to the lab and see what's on the slab! It's The Rocky Horror Picture Show Special Edition, a screamingly funny, sinfully twisted salute to sci-fi, horror, B-movies and rock music, all rolled into one deliciously decade』

(Truly the "Last Emperor")
『This movie shows why Valentino was a genuine artist at dress making/designing. It's sad to see how he was practically pushed out of his own empire due to his lack of accessories. His legacy will live on forever in the fashion world. Long live the red dress!!!』

(Gotta have it!!)
『I got this dvd because I have seen the doco at a cinema and loved every bit of it. It comes with gorgeous and very funny scenes and it definitely takes you inside the world of Valentino and what he is really all about - an extravagant man with a very top taste in life and a massive passion for his art 'fashion'. Love the pugs and the polenta mountains! lol. You have got to have it!』

(Wonderful look at an icon)
『This is a wonderful look at a true couturier... one of the last great ones. He is a bit of a diva at moments, but I understand as millions of dollars are at stake with his name on it. The movie has surprisingly touching moments (although they are brief). There are glimpses of some of his clothing, but the movie leaves you wanting more... which is not a bad thing.
It would be impossible to cram a 50 year history into one film, and that is not what this is meant to be. You have to fill in a lot of gaps. This is a glimpse at a legendary couture house. A great film about a great icon!』

(This is a superb, beautiful, heartfelt film on the career of t)
『This is a superb, beautiful, heartfelt film on the career of the fashion designer, Valentino, and his partner in life and business, Giancarlo Giametti.』

(Fascinating Look behind the scenes)
『If you are a real fashion lover, you will fall in love with Valentino. I cried in the theater watching the sun set on his career. It's a behind the scenes view of the fashion world. Whether you know Valentino or not, you will learn to appreciate his gift. BUY THIS!! It's a FABULOUS movie! The extras on the DVD are amazing--more intimate interviews and a look at Valentino's lavish lifestyle. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!』
『A critically acclaimed look into the life and times of legendary fashion designer Valentino. The film documents the colorful and dramatic closing act of the fashion icons celebrated career, tells the story of his extraordinary life and work, and also explores the larger themes affecting the fashion business today. But at the heart of the film is the unique relationship between Valentino and his business partner and companion of 50 years, Giancarlo Giammetti.』
『Every iconic fashion designer deserves his or her own documentary, as it's a chance for the public to consider careers dedicated to making and breaking trends.Lagerfeld Confidentialreleased in 2007, the same year Valentino Garavani saw his museum retrospective at Rome's Ara Pacis. Where was Valentino's film? Not to fear, as director Matt Tyrnauer was there with the camera, whether Valentino liked it or not, documenting his retrospective events and the chaos leading up to them.Valentino: The Last Emperordetails this 77-year old icon's history, though it focuses, rather too heavily, on the bonanza surrounding the retrospective and the label's takeover that Valentino and partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, built over a fifty-year stretch. That said, Valentino is a fascinating interview subject whether he is talking about sequined gowns, dressing Jackie Kennedy, corporate takeover, or his five pugs, who star alongside him in the film. Watching this film, one gets pugs in diamond earrings, pugs riding jets, pugs passed out in an alpine mountain house. Valentino leads Lagerfeld around like old pals, to examine his renowned body of work. Women crouch around models sewing and cutting, and hair and makeup teams fly through rooms, apparition-like before the camera lens. The film isn't lacking for glamour, and if one is in the mood for a littleLifestyles of the Rich and Famous, thenValentinowill satisfy tenfold.

Interview footage of the man himself and Mr. Giammetti in action--at editorial meetings, directing seamstresses, backstage before runway shows--gives a good glimpse into what these two men have spent the past 50 years doing. As Valentino says when repeatedly badgered about his retirement date, he's only taken three- to four-day holidays, and rarely, since his business exploded in 1968. He and Giammetti stroll down Via Veneto, where they reminisce about meeting and aboutLa Dolce Vita. And one does learn about Valentino's early inspirations, such asZiegfield Girl. There are a few short vintage footage clips of Valentino and his ladies, but the film would be so much stronger if there were more. In fact, one barely gets to view Valentino's haute couture, in scenes during retrospective events. The documentary's drama relies solely on Valentino, the charismatic tornado, rather than dwelling on his styles, probably as it should be. --Trinie Dalton

(Good one-liners)
『I enjoyed the first two Eating Out movies. They were fun and light and frothy. Silly enjoyment. This movie is the same, only more so. I thought the storyline here was a little weaker, and there were plenty of other faults. However, I have to say I enjoyed it, especially the zingy one-liners throughout the film.

Definitely not a great film, probably only worth two stars, but I enjoyed it for its fun silliness, so I give it four stars.』

(Online hookups, and fag hags, and sex videos, oh my!)
『This third in the "Eating Out" collection of gay comedies centers on young Casey (twinkish Daniel Skelton) who moves to Los Angeles, staying with his aunt (Mink Stole), and hopes to find himself a boyfriend. Egged on by Tiffani (Rebekah Kochan, who also appeared in the previous films), his employer and instant fag hag, Casey uses a fake profile on an internet site to try to find out more about Zack (Chris Salvatore), whom Casey met briefly and with whom he became instantly infatuated. When they seem to have many interests in common, Casey intends to meet with Zack and explain what happened, but, unfortunately, Ryan - Tiffani's bisexual ex who works as a stripper, and whose photo profile Casey "borrowed" - shows up as well, and Zack recognizes him from the photos. Of course, a scheme is developed to get Casey and Zack together, resulting in some very funny situations.

Other than Ms. Stole and Ms. Kochan, and except for a cameo by Leslie Jordan, the filmmakers decided to go with new faces (including six openly gay actors in their first feature roles) for this installment. That's likely a good idea, though I question the necessity to kill off Jim Verranos' character, Kyle, which is mentioned in the first scene. I found all three of the films amusing, although they were all fairly light and predictable, and seem to dwell on treading that fine line between gay and straight. I think I preferred this one to #2 a bit, likely because the acting and focus seems marginally stronger. Good looking guys throughout, some nudity, simulated sex, not rated but deserves a solid R. DVD includes bloopers, commentary and a "making of" featurette. A good buffet of laughs, and I'll give it four stars out of five.』

(Eating Out 3 is an amazing film, filed with laughs, and hot steamy action)
『Eating out 3 was not what I expected. I assumed it was another run of the mill gay featurette, and boy was I wrong. Its filled with laughs, hunks, and alot of drama. A great film for any gay couple to sit down and watch with popcorn』

(Worth the Wait)
『"Eating Out: All You Can Eat"

Worth The Wait

Amos Lassen

The "Eating Out" movies have become part of the gay lifestyle and now we have "Eating Out 3: All You Can Eat" and it warrants a coveted place on your shelf right next to 1 and 2. Sometimes a sequel can overdo itself but this one is all new and all fun. Granted it is totally predictable but this does not stop it from being a fun film with some great one lines. Granted some of the language will make you sit back and say "I didn't hear that" (but you did!), this doesn't stop it from being a funny film.
We first meet cute (but somewhat nerdy) Casey (Daniel Skelton) when he moves to West Hollywood to live with his aunt Helen (Mink Stole). We then follow him on his sexual adventures and misadventures as he tries to get a date with very good looking Zack (Chris Salvatore who has a great physique and beautiful body parts). The film is both a romance and a comedy at the same time and some of the jokes are ridiculously dirty yet also very funny. (Think of how you talk and camp with the guys).
There are several really hot men here as well as tow foul mouthed women and one outspoken aunt. Rebekah Kochan plays Tiffani, a fag hag and a sexy slut whose mouth needs some Ivory soap. She convinces Casey to pretend to be her ex (Ryan--Michael Walker) while cruising the web so that he can capture his attention and Casey uses Ryan's picture and a made up profile. Zack falls in cyber love with Ryan and that is fine until the real Ryan appears and all hell breaks loose. Aunt Helen and Harry (an older gay male played by Leslie Jordan) try to make Casey realize that it is not too late to go after Zack and the real Ryan steps in to help arrange a meeting between the two.
Here is a gay film that uses gay actors in the leading roles and this comedy, as crazy as it is, provides laughs throughout. Using the age old formula of mistaken identities, director Glenn Gaylord (what a great name) and writer Phillip J. Bartell have fashioned a film that can be watched over and over again. I am telling you know that this is one gay film you do not want to miss and if you do you will probably be in the minority

Get ready to clean up the whole plate!

This entirely new story in the Eating Out collection offers plenty of the over the top sex-romp rowdiness that made the first two films into cult favorites, along with a delightful dose of pure romance.

Rebekah Kochan returns as Tiffani, the infamous, lovable, hysterical and funny slut who attempts to help her geeky but very cute friend Casey (Daniel Skelton) find true love - or at least a sexy hunk. Taken under Tiffani s wing, Casey pretends to be Ryan, Tiffani's hot, straight, stripper ex-boyfriend, in order to seduce the smoldering Zack (Chris Salvatore) online, which works, until the real Ryan shows up!

Only through some fancy footwork, advice from his Aunt Helen (John Waters Cult Icon Mink Stole) and mentor Harry (Emmy Award winning Leslie Jordan,Sordid Lives, Will&Grace), and a daring provocative sexual escapade can Casey figure out how to set things right and perhaps even find the love he s been seeking. Eating Out 3 introduces six hot, openly gay actors in lead roles including Daniel Skelton, Chris Salvatore, Michael Walker, John C. Stallings (The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency), Maximiliano Torandell, and Rick D'Agostino.』

(Fun and Festive Holiday Film)
『This is an enjoyable film with a great "twist" at the end. It is well cast with endearing characters. Would love to see a sequel next year!』

(A Very Sweet Love Story)
『Now I own all of Rob Williams's movies and he has never let me down in his movies. This was a 5 star movie. I would like to see next year part 2 with all the same actors and actess's back.』

(Sweet and endearing)
『Ok, not the best movie I've ever seen. A little corny, a little over the top acting, script that is a little banal. That being said, it's a very sweet story, and the characters are very likeable and endearing. By the end of the movie I found that I cared about the people in the story and wanted everything to work out well for them. The ending was satisfying, and I finished the movie feeling glad that I'd watched it.』

(Great Holiday Movie)
『This is a great movie! I was able to catch it during DC's Reel Affirmations and I laughed my back side off thru the movie, well except for one scene where I was crying like a school girl. The movie is very straight friendly which is nice as I can recommend the movie to many of my friends. The music is incrediable. Big bear hugz to the cast, crew, writers and everyone else who was a part of the movie!!』

(Sweet, engaging film could become a gay holiday classic!)
『The college dorm's resident "out and proud" gay couple, Olaf ("Gunn") and Nathan, are going home to spend Christmas with their respective families, and those families couldn't be more different. Whereas "trust fund baby" Nathan's parents are rather cold, status-seeking yuppies, Olaf's parents are a couple of former hippies who start decorating their home for the holidays months before. When Nathan's parents stand him up to go on a holiday cruise, he decides to surprise Olaf by joining him at his parents, only to find out that his parents have no clue that he is gay. Nathan immediately tries to "butch it up" a bit, but is disappointed and hurt that Olaf is unable - more like unwilling - to introduce him as his boyfriend.

A sweet and engaging, though somewhat corny, story about honesty, self-acceptance and - ultimately - the meaning of love. Newcomer Keith Jordan does a first-rate job as the emotionally conflicted Olaf, and is surrounded by an excellent cast of veteran character actors, including Derek Long ("3-Day Weekend" and several other gay films) as Olaf's stoner dad, actress/voiceover artist Kelly Keaton as his jolly mother, Hallee Hirsh (who played Dr. Greene's daughter on "ER") as Olaf's supposed girlfriend Abby, Alison Arngrin (best know as Nellie Olsen on "Little House on the Prairie") as Abby's mom, Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher on "Star Trek: TNG") as Nathan's mom, and Adamo Ruggiero (Marco for five seasons on "Degrassi: The Next Generation") as Nathan. The direction and technical aspects seem flawless, and there are even a half dozen or so original songs on the soundtrack. DVD isn't rated, but would likely be PG; definitely a film you could (and should) share with your parents and younger siblings. Popular at several gay film festivals, and in a limited theatrical run, this just might become a timeless gay holiday classic. Watch out for the mistletoe over the doorway, and I give "Yuletide" a full five stars out of five.』

『A whimsical gay romance with a heart of gold, Make the Yuletide Gay follows a young gay couple Nathan and Gunn as they face their first Christmas apart. Sweet-natured Gunn (Keith Jordan) has to go right back in the closet to survive the holidays with his wacky Wisconsin parents, and cutie-pie Nathan (Adamo Ruggerio, Degrassi: The Next Generation ) is preparing to spend another Christmas with his cold-hearted parents. When Nathan surprises everyone by turning up on Gunn s doorstep, the couple is hilariously forced to juggle a hetero charade with their gay reality. With its bright, witty dialogue and handsome cast, Yuletide is one holiday treat you ll want to savor many times over.』

(A Classic Cult)
『Absolutely brilliant movie that kick started a career for Susan Sarandon and Meatloaf. A `B` grade movie with `A` grade performances in acting singing and songwriting. When I originally saw this movie it was a support for Phantom of the Paradise but when I walked out of the theatre it was Rocky Horror that stayed with me. One of a few movies that I can watch time and time again.』

(Absolute Pleasure!)

(Courage and integrity of the highest order)
『This film is just exceptional, accomplishing the difficult task of teaching social history without preaching, of exploring character and courage from a perspective of lived reality, and communicating to gay audiences the historic struggles of the gay rights movement while communicating to straight audiences the motivations that moved the gay rights movement forward. The cast is superb, with Sean Penn offering a perfect performance of power and grace, humor and courage. James Franco does a wonderful understated calm performance as Scott Smith, the lover who follows Harvey to San Francisco and emotionally supports him during his rocky rise in the local political scene. Gus Van Sant may have been the perfect director for this script since he is sensitive to the subtle dynamics and evolution of the gay rights movement while also making a credible effort to explore the character of Harvey Milk and his lovers. The film reminds us of the terrible violence and discrimination those in the gay community experienced from the police, media, and courts. This reference back to these days of harassment and attacks is important in grounding the work and philosophy of Harvey Milk. Placing this story within the history of the Castro neighborhood in San Francisco helps give the narrative a time and place as well as makes reference to a major social movement. The historic films, including the films of Anita Bryant's bigoted campaign against gay men and women, give all viewers a feel for the hatred, bigotry, violence, discrimination, and lack of civil rights that gay men and women experienced. The film is very educational in that it firmly places gay rights as in the same group with civil rights for African Americans and women. Yet Harvey Milk is a critical piece of this history, not just as an activist but also as the first open gay person elected to public office in the United States. Harvey Milk is fully characterized as a multi-dimensional, resilient, courageous, transcendent human being. His resiliency, as portrayed by Sean Penn, is inspiring. Milk had a broad and objective view of the condition of gay men and women in the United States and the political skills to move forward in the fight against discrimination. He loses a handsome young lover in his political fights and then adopts a damaged soul as his second lover. It is the loving, protective way that Harvey loves and supports his emotionally and mentally fragile lover that echoes his love and protection for all of those in the gay movement. In other words, Harvey was willing to take a partner who was damaged goods, and in so doing, personifies his philosophy that the gay community is full of persons who are damaged and deserve protection. Harvey loses three consecutive elections but finally with his vision and resiliency, he prevails and is elected to the San Francisco board of supervisors. The rise and tragic fall of Harvey Milk makes for wonderfully moving drama, even more penetrating, because it reflects a significant time in our history.』

(great acting)
『Hi guys . this is a great film tells you about the gay activist but if you are not into biographys then dont buy it or gay theams as you wont like it . saying that he got the oscar for his role so dont dismiss it all together .i enjoyed it and i thought it was worth the viewing time i wouldent say it was a feel good movie .it left me feeling a little mad at the politics in america . but whats new guys , enjoy .BRIAN』

(The Start of a Cultural Revolution!)
『I first heard the name Harvey Milk about a few years ago when a new high school for gay teens was being opened in Manhattan and stirred a lot of controversy. That school was named after Harvey Milk. The news said that he was an openly gay politician from San Franscisco.

I was a little remiss at the time because when I hear somebody mentioned who I know nothing about, I usually research them at a minimum on Wikipedia. I failed and the name Harvey Milk was filed deep in my brain until this movie starring Sean Penn won critical acclaim and an award for best actor in 2008. I still failed to do any research.

The other night I finally saw this film and it was a fascinating tale. It shed a lot of light on things that I vaguely heard about but never really thought about. I remember Anita Bryant from all the orange juice commercials she did but nothing about her crusade against the gay community. When we look back today, she definately looked ridiculous. Her time could have been better spent on doing something more productive with her time.

The movie explains how the gay movement began in San Francisco, where Harvey Milk opened a shop that catered to a mostly gay clientele. Pretty soon other gay run shops started opening on his street (Castro) and pretty soon many gays started moving to the area. Many of them had very sad stories of being abandoned by their families because of their preferences.

Eventually Harvey is encouraged to go into politics and crusade for rights to protect people against discrimination based on their sexual orientation. It is a fascinating study and we also see a lot of the dirty end of politics where favors are bought and traded. Josh Brolin is excellent and one of Harvey's political peers who keeps requesting favors from Harvey but does nothing to help Harvey's cause.

James Franco looking much different from his Harry Osbourne/James Dean look, plays Harvey's friend and lover (Scott). Scott puts a lot of pressure on Harvey to give up political ambitions and causes Harvey to have to make several tough decisions.

One can easily see why Sean Penn was an easy choice for his Oscar in this role. A first rate movie that should not be missed.

(A time and a place in history that defined a watershed of change! A great film!)
『Sean Penn won an Oscar for his outstanding performance in this 2008 film. No wonder. He is simply magnificent. And, in my opinion, the film is a winner in every category. Not only does it tell the true story of the man himself, Harvey Milk, who, in 1977 was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and was the first openly gay elected official in America, it is the story of a movement and a time and a place in history that defined a watershed of change.

Bravo to the filmmakers! The casting is perfect with James Franco playing the long-time boyfriend of Harvey Milk and Josh Brolin cast in the role of a troubled fellow city supervisor, who in an insane frenzy, brutally murdered both Milk and the Mayor of San Francisco, George Moscone in 1978.

We first meet Milk, a 40-year old New York businessman, who changes his life dramatically by embracing the counter-culture movement and moving to San Francisco in the early 1970s with his young lover. They live in the Castro district, which is fast becoming a Mecca for gays, opening a camera store and fighting the establishment. Soon, Milk becomes political, running for public office. He loses, not once but twice, but, finally, when he changes his hippie appearance and starts to wear suits, he eventually is elected. He fights vigorously for gay rights, influencing gays to unite and "come out of the closet" and mostly, because of his activism and his strong personality, a proposition to keep gays from teaching in public schools, promoted by the gay-bashing activist, Anita Bryant, was defeated.

Sadly, Harvey Milk served a mere 11 months in office before he was assassinated. But the changes he brought about are living on as the concept of inclusion is a reality in our culture today. The cinematography and direction are exceptional and there is not a dull moment in the film. I loved every minute of it. Hooray for Harvey Milk! And Hooray those who brought his inspiring story to the screen!

This film gets my highest recommendation. Don't miss it!

(Sadly, no relationship to fact)
『Those of you whom weren't there may enjoy the movie. Those of us who were there will be appalled. How misleading, sad and inaccurate. Maybe some day the real story will be told. Obviously, not now.』
『THE STORY OF CALIFORNIA'S FIRST OPENLY GAY ELECTED OFFICIAL, HARVEY MILK, A SAN FRANCISCO SUPERVISOR WHO WAS ASSASSINATED ALONG WITH MAYOR GEORGE MOSCONE BY SAN FRANCISCO SUPERVISOR DAN WHITE.』
『When a famous person, like the nation's first openly gay male city supervisor, inspires an acclaimed book (The Mayor of Castro Street) and Oscar-winning documentary (The Times of Harvey Milk), a biopic can seem superfluous at best. Taking over from Oliver Stone and Bryan Singer, Gus Van Sant, whose previous picture was the more experimentalParanoid Park, directs with such grace, he renders the concern moot. Unlike Randy Shilts' biography, which begins at the beginning, Dustin Lance Black's script starts in 1972, just as Milk (Sean Penn, in a finely-wrought performance) and his boyfriend, Scott (James Franco, equally good), move from New York to San Francisco. Milk opens a camera shop on the Castro that becomes a safe haven for victims of discrimination, convincing him to enter politics. With each race he runs, Harvey's relationship with Scott unravels further. Finally, he wins, and the real battle begins as Milk takes on Proposition 6, which denies equal rights to homosexuals. He does what he can to rally politicians, like George Moscone (Victor Garber) and Dan White (Josh Brolin). While the mayor is willing, the conservative board member has reservations, and after Milk fails to back one of White’s pet projects, the die is cast, leading to the murder of two beloved figures. If Van Sant’s film captures Harvey in all his complexities (he was, for instance, a very funny man),Milkalso serves as an enticement to grass-roots activism, showing how one regular guy elevated everyone around him, notably Cleve Jones (Emile Hirsch), the ex-street hustler who created the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial. Released in the wake of Proposition 8, California’s anti-gay marriage amendment,Milkis inspirational in the best way: one person can and did make a difference, but the struggle is far from over. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

『I will buy it eventually to end out my collection of the series. I am really glad that I didn't preorder. That would have been a waste of funds. You leave everything at a question mark. Not a cliffhanger ending a smart aleck teenage way. Enough Said.』

(Loved the series but not the finale)
『As an avid watcher of The L Word, I anxiously awaited the release date for the final season. I'd read some unkind reviews of the final season but figured that the series couldn't end in a way that would disappoint me. I was WRONG. With the exception of one or two things, I had no real problems until the last episode. (((SPOILER ALERT))) I did not like that they broke up Helena and Dylan. The chemistry between those two was absolutely electric and I think that they were the 2nd best couple on the show (the first being Tina and Bette). As far as the last episode, they left way too much to the imagination. I am one of those people who needs to know how things end. I don't like when major events are left open for interpretation.

I still reccommend The L Word Final Season for anyone who is as into the show as I am. It absolutely could've ended better, but it was still a wonderful series.』

(Horrible.)
『I am highly disappointed in The L Word Final Season. I watched originally on Showtime with great expectation especially for the last episode. I don't know what happened to the show. The truth is, it was never the same since the creators decided to cut Dana out, after that they barely hung on - but the show was still entertaining. The Final Season however was just plain bad.

First, I don't care if you have gender dysphoria - just because you take hormones does not mean you automatically turn into the opposite sex, and therefore your sex organs no longer work according to their original settings. Max's whole "Oh I didn't think I could get pregnant" was an insult to people facing this issue, as well as an insult to a character who supposedly is intelligent enough to create complex IT programs, but apparently didn't get 4th grade biology. Girls and boys, penis and vagina equals baby, even if the penis is gay and the vagina is confused. So...girls and boys, put a rubber on it and move on. Having Max become pregnant was just plain cheesy, especially since the plot was created only shortly after the idiocy of the "pregnant man" story. Good job creators, you took a break through character, and screwed it up.

Second, yes Jenny needed to die - but was it necessary to make ME want to be the killer? The character was already annoying to began with, and the majority of The Final Season was basically "The Jenny Show" and "How will Jenny make me want to kill her today?? hmmm." Tedious.

Third...Shane should have grown up. Brian Kinney of Queer as Folk was a much better written character than Shane, and even he grew up in the end. I personally did not see any growth in any of the characters apart from Helena.

Finally...how dare you not re-introduce the entire cast when they say goodbye? I didn't see Carmen, Marina, or Dana in the final "good bye shots." Carmen and Marina showed up in a tape made by Jenny, which begs the question...why didn't Marina just come back and take Jenny? That would have been a better rap up of the show.

Overall, I personally hated this season. The best (and it's a stretch) that can be said for this season, is the last episode where Tina and Bette are sitting at the porch, and we see Shane walking back home supposedly from another night (just as in the very first episode). It was bittersweet, and a good reminder of just how good The L Word ONCE was.

(Sorry To See You Go)
『I loved The L Word from day one; great characters, great arcs, great story lines and lots of spice.

Each character had a uniqueness about them. Especially the two I mention here: Alice was a complete delight (Leisha's craft in delivery was flawless). Jenny's character was indeed complex. You just loved hating her at certain points. But I did hate to see her go.

What I did find lacking was a bit more realism in body types. I, as an overweight lesbian, loved seeing the beauty in these women but the lack of people with weight issues should have been addressed.

I disagreed with the writers regarding Dana's demise. She should have represented hope and the love for life. We know people die from breast cancer and the devastation that surrounds it but I believe it would have been a better story line showing Dana rising above and having a positive attitude toward the disease and the lessons learned and what she possibly could do to help others. I write this from witnessing this disease through my life partner.

And then a side bar to that, since Dana did die, and having her reappear before Alice, that should have gone on periodically through the remaining seasons. Especially, in the very last episode when everyone was saying their good-byes...her ghost-like appearance could have shown up.

All in all I will miss my fix of The L Word.』

(great but too short)
『fantastic ending to a great series. A "who done it?" with a confusing ending. Lives up to the L word series expectation of excellence. one problem is it is way too short, that is not a full season was shot. too bad, not enough of a great thing.』
『Unresolved romances and a long-simmering film project finally bear fruit in the sixth season ofThe L Word®. Dreams come true and new life paths are forged for many of the series' characters this year, but not without the TheL Word'strademark provocative storylines, sizzling sexuality, and heart-rending emotion.』
