Took a while to learn all of the navigating tricks using screen touches, found some items we didn't think we had until my wife found them by accident in the idle time of a long drive with nothing else to do. Basically you have to play with it to learn it. A good value I believe for the money. There are fancier units out there but for the buck this one works very well. Even thinking on locking in spots on the lakes when fishing next summer. Simply click on the "Where am I" icon which will give you the GPS co-ordinates and then click "add to my favorites". Title the favorite and your set. Keep in mind 1 latitudinal or longitudGarmin nüvi 255W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigatorinal second equals approx. 90 feet but it will put you closer than eyeballing it on a big lake and quicker also. Just don't drop it in the water.』 (Garmin 255W GPS) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『What can I say its a Garmin. This is my second Garmin and I think they are the best on the GPS market. My friend has a Tom Tom and it doesn't come close to even my old Garmin. Save yourself a lot of time and get the Garmin. Any model that you choose you will enjoy.』 (Great Product) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I have been using GPS on my Lexus 430 (built in) for four years and have thoroughly enjoyed but it is not good in many small town areas. This product is far superior in many areas where the Lexus GPS does not give voice commands - only maps. I may even get one for my Lexus. The voice commands by the lady AMerican are sort of gruff compared to my other one (speaker sounds much more refined)but still very effective.』 (Good All Around GPS -Nuvi 255w) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This unit was a replacement for a Tom Tom One that lacked street name voice call outs and had become erratic. I was surprised and pleased to find that the Garmin unit automatically started up and shut down with the ignition controlled power to the lighter socket. Cleverly, this Garmin changes the view colors automatically at night. The worst drawback is the reflection of the screen on my windshield at night, even though I have the screen set at 10% brightness. The map info is reasonably accurate, but just like the Tom Tom, the streets in our gated community are not accurately shown. The trip computer display is useful for cars that don't have a trip computer. It will be inaccurate if the the GPS cannot acquire satellites for any significant delay time. This display has a highly visible digital speed readout that is useful. The Nuvi has several features I have yet to explore.』 (Only 3 Negative Things about the Garmin Nuvi 255W) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『The Garmin Nuvi 255W works great, especially for the price. There are only 3 things that could be a problem for some users. 1. Poor Volume Control. The user must get into a few layers of the menu to access the touch screen volume control. It is of course difficult and dangerous to do while driving and you'll probably get into an accident. It's like, not having an easy way to adjust the volume of your car stereo. You basically have to pull off the freeway and park the vehicle to adjust the volume. I used to have Garmin's Street Pilot GPS and there was a small volume dial on the side of the unit which you could easily feel and quickly adjust the volume without taking your eyes off the road. 2. Battery life is weaker than previous Street Pilot models. Not a huge problem, but the older models could go much longer between charges. 3. There is no way to plug in an external antenna with the unit. Won't affect most people, but some RV or big trucks must put the unit below the dashboard and need to use an antenna.』 『For peace of mind on the go, n?vi 255 leads the way with voice-prompted turn-by-turn and optional MSN Direct to get you there on time and keep you informed. It's packed with millions of destinations and maps for North America or Europe. Like the rest of the compact n?vi 2x5-series, this portable navigator is priced right and ultra-easy to use.n?vi 255 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, including a hefty points of interest (POIs) database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. It even announces the name of exits and streets so you never have to take your eyes off the road. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and n?vi takes you there with turn-by-turn voice directions, 2-D or 3-D maps and and smooth map updates as you navigate. Its digital elevation maps show you shaded contours at higher zoom levels, giving you a big picture of the surrounding terrain. In addition, n?vi 255 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. With HotFix satellite prediction, n?vi calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.Like the rest of the n?vi 2x5-series, n?vi 255 sports a sleek, slim design and fits comfortably in your pocket or purse. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot. With its "Where Am I? " emergency locator, you always know your location. Simply tap the screen to get your exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and fuel stations.eft feature. Enhance your travel experience with optional plug-in microSD cards such as Garmin Travel Guides for detailed data on attractions.』 『Garmin's nüvi 255W improves upon its 200-series predecessors by adding top-of-the-line features such as FM traffic updates or MSN Direct content to an entry-level line. But Garmin is also introducing some significant improvements with this new series, like a predictive technology that provides faster satellite lock, a redesigned screen with more information, terrain maps, and an exciting new photo navigation feature. The 255W adds complete maps for North America and Text-to-Speech, so you get turn by turn spoken directions with the real names of streets (e.g. "turn left in 50 feet at Nebraska Way", rather than merely "turn left in 50 feet"). The 255W also offers a wide 4.3-inch (diagonal) screen that displays 70% more of the road around you. ![]() The nüvi 2x5 models all sport the slim design that Garmin introduced with the 200-series last year, so they all fit comfortably in your pocket or purse, and a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that makes them convenient for navigation by car or foot. All of the models include useful travel tools like a JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more. Important Product Information: This device features a "screen lock" feature. This is a standard feature on all nüvi 2x5 and 7x5 Garmin units. If you slide the "Power" key to the right, it will lock the screen and prevent any accidental touches. Once the screen lock feature is engaged, the screen will go black/gray after about 15 seconds to save power on the device. To unlock the screen, just slide the "Power" key to the center position. This feature is really targeted for "Pedestrian" mode so that a user can put the device in his or her pocket/purse and quickly unlock the screen instead of powering on/off continuously. The 405 is sleeker, but too sensitive to the touch. The 305, even though larger, fits very comfortably to your arm and the buttons are easy to use. It is the only one to have. The release of this device is a major achievement from a design and technology perspective. This isn't just marketing-speak; the Forerunner 305 is the most accurate, most reliable wrist-mounted performance and GPS tracking tool we've ever tested. Yes, it's that good. While no device this compact can do everything (yet), the 305 pushes the boundaries of what is possible from something strapped around your wrist. The 305 model includes wireless heartrate monitoring and it can also be connected to Garmin's wireless bicycle speed and cadence sensor. If you don't need these features, consider the lower-priced Forerunner 205. View Garmin's Forerunner demonstration video.
The 305's design is a radical departure from Garmin's previous generation of wrist mounted GPS devices, which reached a pinnacle with the Garmin Forerunner 301. While the 301 delivered accurate heart rate monitoring, good performance tracking, and decent GPS reception, it didn't quite deliver in the design department. The form factor was bulky and wearing it wasn't much different than duct taping a full-sized GPS device to your wrist. Not so with the 305. Garmin's engineers obviously burned the midnight oil and have come up with a waterproof design that, while certainly not as small as a sports watch, feels just as comfortable. The curved casing allows the unit's antenna to face the sky when you're running, while the widescreen display is perfectly positioned for viewing when you need it. And the display certainly deserves a few kudos. While it's smaller than the display found on previous Forerunners, its resolution is far higher, offering incredible clarity and crispness. Garmin has smartly given the 305 a simple button layout and the buttons have a nice tactile feel with good pressure response. The right side houses the menu selection and enter buttons, while the left houses a power/backlight button and a mode button. This simple and elegant solution is a big improvement over the sometimes confusing button functionality of previous Forerunners. View button layout. The underside of the 305 is pretty nondescript, except for a row of contacts that interface with the included charging and data cradle. The cradle is small and unobtrusive and its single mini-USB port connects to either an included AC adapter, or a USB cable that connects to your PC. In addition to data transfer with the USB cable, you can also charge the 305's embedded lithium-ion battery via a powered USB connection from your computer. GPS Performance
Training Functions The heart and soul of the 305 can be found on the data screens, which give you real-time information about all aspects of your workout. In fact, the 305 can display a dizzying array of data, such as calories burned, distance, elevation, grade, and heading, as well as multiple lap and pace modes. The 305 adds the ability to track heartrate, lap heartrate, average heartrate, and heartrate zones via the included coded heartrate chest strap. With the purchase of a separate wireless cadence and speed meter, you can also track bike performance data. Thankfully, the device makes it easy to define how much or how little data you want to view during a workout. You can arrange the data that's most important to you and then make that data appear front and center on the device. Indeed, within a few minutes of skimming the manual and fiddling with the device setup, you'll have your most important data displaying just the way you like it. The ability to display heartrate is a big plus, too, as it's a fairly good indicator of excercise output, fatigue, and fitness level. The 305 has all the heartrate functions you'd expect from a full-function monitor, including the ability to set target zones and alerts to maximize the effectiveness of your workouts. Garmin's Virtual Partner function was cool feature of previous Forerunners and they've decided to keep a good thing going with the 305. If you're the type that performs best when you've got a competitor egging you on, you'll love this function, as it allows you to set up virtual running or biking companions that compete against you. If you're looking for an complicated workout with a variety of intervals and intensity levels, or just a quick three-mile jog against your best time last week, the 305 has you covered. Navigating to the Workouts menu on the device yields three options: Quick Workouts, Interval, and Advanced Workout. A quick workout is just that; set the distance and time, distance and pace, or time and pace of your planned workout and off you go. Interval workouts are just the same, but they allow you to add repetitions and rest between them. When you really want to get fancy with your exercise, you can step up to advanced workouts, which include goals for each workout step, as well as varied distances, times, and rest periods. You can use the Garmin Training Center software to set up these workouts and then upload them to the device. Computer Connectivity and Software In a first for the Forerunner series, the Training Center software also lets you define courses on your computer that you can upload to the device. When course information is combined with uploaded workout information, the Forerunner becomes a complete guide, telling you where to go, when to make a turn, and what kind of workout to do when you're on the road or path. Back on the computer, the software's ability to overlay workout data on maps of the course makes it easy to see where the course offers up the tough hills and the easy recovery spots. Plus, the ability to track historical performance on a given course is a great way to measure your improvement. The 305 is also fully compatible with Garmin's MotionBased service, which takes your training to another level by connecting your data with the Internet. While we weren't able to use the service, the promise of sharing courses, maps, workouts, and performance data with other users is intriguing. And if you're a serious endurance athlete, you'll be glad to know that the 305 is also compatible with TrainingPeaks.com, an easy-to-use web based training system designed to help athletes train for any event. Pros
Forerunner 305, Garmin Training Center CD-ROM, heart rate monitor, docking cradle, expander strap, A/C charger, USB cable, owner's manual, quick start guide.』 『Amazon.com Product Description The successor to the Garmin Forerunner 301 is here, and it's better than ever. Weighing in at just over 2.5 ounces, the Garmin Forerunner 305 breaks new ground in terms of comfort, style, and performance. Totally redesigned, the 305 gives outdoor athletes and runners real-time information about speed, distance, pace, and heart rate on a device that's easy to use and amazingly compact.
The 305's digitally coded heart-rate monitor--which is worn as a chest strap--sends heart-rate data to the device so you can see whether you're training too hard or not hard enough. Alerts for pace, distance, time, and heart rate are also available. Additionally, the unit tracks speed, distance, pace, and calories burned. Meanwhile, a course feature lets you race against previous runs in order to improve your time or just compare heart rate and pace data at every point of the way. The 305's easy-to-read, 1.3-inch display has been integrated into a sleek and stylish form factor that is definitely a step up from the larger and more cumbersome Forerunner 301 model. Indeed, the 305 looks and wears like a stylish sports watch, and it's more carefully designed to meet the needs of athletes. The design also positions the antenna with an optimal view of the sky. As an added feature, the case is water resistant to IEC 60529 IPX7 standards (can be submerged in one meter of water for 30 minutes). Accuracy is the name of the game with the 305. The vastly more accurate GPS antenna and receiver, which uses an advanced SiRF chip, offer much faster satellite acquisition times. Plus, the unit can hold a fix in places never before possible. Gone are the days of losing a fix under tree cover or when running between tall buildings. All of these features add up to far more accuracy in recording and tracking your exercise data. And because the 305 uses GPS to track how far and how fast you're going, you never have to calibrate it. The unit also doubles as a basic navigator. Mark your starting point as a specific location, see your current position on the plotter display, and follow an electronic breadcrumb trail back to your starting point. The 305 features a USB data connection and docking cradle for downloading your speed, lap, exercise time, and heart-rate data into Garmin's Training Center PC software. The unit stores up to 1,000 lap histories, which you can download to your PC for a detailed post-workout analysis. Plus, you can create and schedule workouts using the included software and download them to the unit. A rechargeable internal lithium-ion battery offers up to ten hours of battery life. For additional post-workout analysis, the 305 is compatible with MotionBased software. MotionBased adds a new dimension to training and outdoor fitness that makes the analytical aspects of a sport more compelling and a lot more fun. You can upload data to MotionBased, a Web-based application that has partnered with Garmin. MotionBased provides in-depth analysis of your workouts, as well as online mapping and route sharing that will take your training to the next level. MotionBased automatically calculates time, distance, speed, elevation, and heart rate, and it displays this information through meaningful charts, illustrations, reports, and maps. With MotionBased, you can also race multiple instances of the same route to see how you are improving or to race other members of MotionBased. You can "virtually race" someone you don't even know. If you like the features of the Forerunner 305 but don't need heart-rate monitoring, be sure to check out the Forerunner 205.

Mike』 (Try this on a motorcycle!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I love the Nuvi in my car, and as a discontinued item, the 780 is relatively cheap due in part to the MSN interface which is being discontinued. Being on a motorcycle (with a separate RAM mount and a hardwired power supply for another $50 or so) I don't get the traffic updates or MSN service, but who cares? Screen is bright enough to see in daylight (barely, in direct sun), audio at 100% is loud enough to hear thru my helmet at city speeds. Bluetooth is a disappointment in that it doesnt sync with my Chatterbox XBI, but...whatever. Touch screen is easily manipulated with gloves on. Perfect for facilitating touring and finding the nearest gas station. $200 for the 780 compared to $650 for a Zumo 660 is a HUGE bargain. If it rains, put it away or put a ziplock baggie on it. You have to replace it three times to make up the difference』 (Ok, but disappointed overall) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Purchased the Garmin Nuvi 780 expecting to blown away, but I suppose my expectations were too high... I upgraded from a Magellan 2000 (real old). Though this one looks nicer, is faster, and has some more/nicer features, and is more reliable, I miss how the other worked. I have only had for a couple weeks. Navigation - On two occasions I searched for a point of interest I knew was there, but it could not be found. On two other occasions, it found the point of interest, but could not find it via navigation. (Fortunately I knew how to get there both times). I miss having the street I am on at the top, and where I am going next on the bottom (or visa versa). This one cycles through the two on the top, which can be confusing. Also, when navigating, if you use the 3d mode, there is no way to tell which direction you are traveling (N-E-S-W). There should be a compass at minimum, or at least a key telling which way is north. Where is my split screen showing which way to turn, and that "next-turn-after-the-first" preview? Ease of use - This is where I am most frustrated. Detours require a sub-menu, rather than "popping" on the screen when it sees you stop on a road that you should be moving on. Also, when searching for locations or addresses, you have to enter the state by spelling it. So I type "N-J" and then "done" and it says "no results", so I have to click "back" and then "N-e-w" then "done" and then select "New Jersey". I should be able to do either, and it should "auto" select after touching a few keys. Why do I have to click "done". The older magellan did this. Also, why can't I just enter a zip code first and have it auto-select the state and city? Where did that feature go? It's not a big deal if you are stopped and entering stuff, but doing stuff on the road is a pain and tedious. Map - Also disappointed here. Where did all my map detail go? There is a "detail" setting, but you put it on the most detailed setting and there are still almost no street or road names. I want to know what all the roads I'm passing are, and what road that is running parallel to me! Overall - Before I go on a rant of what I don't like, it does look nice, has a lot of customized settings, voices don't sound bad, blue tooth works well, battery seems fine (so far), screen is plenty large, it sticks to my window real well, and it seems to find "most" of the places I throw at it. However, I can't help buy feel they upgraded the looks, slimmed the form-factor, upgraded the hardware, "refined" the UI, and then slapped together the way everything works. It just doesn't seem real well thought out. I'm not returning it, but I am giving to my wife. I will try a different one for myself. 』 『Amazon.com Product Description -- January 8, 2008 The nüvi 780 adds enhanced MSN direct content to themulti-destination routing and "Where Am I?" features and gorgeous widescreen display of other nüvi 700s to create a superior navigation device for business as well as casual drivers. After that, subscription fees are $49.95 per year, or $129.95 for a lifetime subscription. Multi-Destination Routing
This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about). Where Am I? Where's My Car? At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, the nüvis in the 700 series automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount. See Better, See MoreThe super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push. The nüvi 780 is preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. Important note about map updates:Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store. Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. The nüvi 780's Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker lets match it to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log. Garmin Lock Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location Easy To Use Interface

I never saw the need to spend $100's to do what a $10 atlas could do. Then I took a trip with a friend who had a Nuvi 205. I immediately had to have a gps! I love this thing and should have gotten one years ago! I don't have to fish for my reading glasses, dig out the atlas, and find the map is not detailed enough to see what I wanted. Navigation is so much easier now! I went with Garmin because of market share, features, and price. The widescreen is definitely the way to go, as is the calling out of street names for the next turn. The points of interest is great - I can look up restaurants, gas stations, etc in unfamilier places. I can take that backroad to do some recon and know how to get back to civilization. I tried a vent mount which positioned the Nuvi below the top of the dash. It worked for a week or so, then started losing the sat signal. It is now mounted on the dash with the provided stick on plastic piece and hasn't lost the signal since. The Bluetooth phone function works flawlessly with my cell phone and reproduces my phone's full contact list on the screen which makes for easy calls. Once the phone number is selected, the call is completely hands free and the speaker and microphone work very well. GPS Directions to destinations are accurate and the screen shows your speed and the road's posted speed limit, estimated time of arrival, and all street names as you approach them. The selection of American English voices is limited, I wish there were more. I've selected a female voice, but it is somewhat nasal. This is a great unit and a good value for the price (I paid $179). I took advantage of the one time free download of updated software and an updated map. The process was somewhat complex and took several steps of over an hour each (I have Roadrunner high speed access). The files are very large (over 2 gigabytes) and are not automatically deleted after the map updating process is complete. I had to find them on my hard drive and delete the map data files and update program manually to recapture the hard drive space. Garmin should add this step to the final cleanup after the updating process. Other than the disk space issue, this product fully lives up to its advertising. >price: Garmin Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Awful experience so far...) ![]() ![]() 『In the past several years, I've had a built-in nav, a TomTom, a Garmin 660, and now a Garmin 765t for a couple of days. Having had so many, I felt I knew what I was looking for in upgrading from the 660 to the 765t. Things I've observed that are awful: 1) ADVERTISING. Ads pop up when you use the traffic feature. This is lousy, and makes me feel annoyed and cheated, but what's worse is that one popped up when I arrived home when I wasn't using the traffic feature. An ad for Hyatt...really?? Get off my screen. 2) CALIBRATION. Just the worst! I found out how to recalibrate the screen and have done it three times and it just gets worse every time. When I try to type in a new state, it brings up the new country option from below no matter how high up I tap. When I try to type in the name of a street, it chooses the letter next to it and if I try to compensate, it still won't choose the right letter. Unusable! 3) DEAD PIXEL. Out of the box, it had a dead (always red) pixel. Nice. 4) POINTS OF INTEREST. My Nuvi 660 always found the points of interest I was looking for reasonably quickly. The 765t does not. Either it doesn't find them in its results at all (where the 660 had), or I get the hourglass spinning until I give up. 5) REDRAW. I bought this unit above the voice activated unit for a few reasons and one was that reviewers had said that it had quicker redraw, which I knew I'd find valuable when I decided to override its directions and make it recalculate. Unfortunately, the redraw even when doing things like changing the basic settings is not smooth and quick, as I'd expected. I haven't had much time to use the unit for travel, so I can't comment on the wonderful features like lane assist and 3-D buildings that I bought it for. I can just say that this was not at all what I was expecting given the decent experience I'd had with my 660. The 660 lacks some basic features that I want - like telling me things in time or showing me which way I will be turning before I actually need to make the turn - so I really felt like this was a good buy, but it's going back.』 (765t locked up 1st time when updating map) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Would not power on after 1st time linked to computer had to send in for repair, returned with in a week and works fine , however thier known software problem and still selling unit distrubed me.』 (Top notch) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Hocked off my old Nüvi 250, picked up this 765T. Primary reason was for bluetooth phone integration. Traffic notification&lane assist end up being much more valuable than bluetooth, although the 765T's bluetooth functionality works great with my Moto Razr V3M. The 765T definitely gets satellite lock much quicker than the 250 did. It still has a little trouble locking on in downtown Detroit, amidst the skyscapers. But it does lock on before I get out of downtown, whereas the 250 had to reach Michigan&Third before it knew where it was. Love the "send to gps" integration with Google Maps--very useful feature. One bummer of upgrading GPS units is that I lost all of my favorites in my 250. Maybe Garmin will one day stop worrying about unlock codes&user-hostile stuff like that, and worry more about giving me an easy upgrade path.』 (A great navigation tool) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『We have used our 765T for over a month and find it helpful and entertaining. Even though I don't agree with a few of it's route selections, I find it amazing that it knows so much. On many occasions it has saved us much time. On familiar routes you could experiment with it's selections to get a feeling for how it thinks. Understand that with the information it has built in and the traffic info it receives you may have to make a practical decision which route to follow. This becomes apparent on a freeway when it receives a message that there is heavy freeway traffic so it suggests you get off the freeway and take a frontage road parallel to the freeway. The frontage road may have multiple signals and it's own heavy traffic but the GPS doesn't know it. This is not a good decision but you can see why the GPS suggests it . You are better off staying on the freeway, even if you are moving slowly. Also there can be some recent street changes. You have to evaluate for yourself and you may have to override a selection. On one trip across San Francisco heading west on the Bay Bridge to a house in the Sunset District this unit directed us on a brilliant selection of streets I would have never chosen and in a very quick amount of time. I know San Francisco fairly well and I am amazed. In many other locations we are not familiar with it has also worked great.』 (Steer clear of the Garmin 765T) ![]() 『This GPS inexplicably prefers routes off of Interstates. The direction-to-turn arrow cannot be trusted since it is, at times, at odds with the voice instructions. This GPS is beautifully constructed and the display is brilliant. I had no trouble with hearing it at all and the Bluetooth worked fine. I like how the power/radio cord snaps into the bracket and not onto the unit proper. Unfortunately, I find that the 765T computes routing that is so inferior and arbitrary that I can't recommend it. I have set the routing options in every conceivable way to improve the routing, but it doesn't seem to care. Garmin support told me to set "via" points along the route (even if it is a straight shot on the interstate) to prevent this problem. They reported to me they were able to duplicate the specific example I gave them. Kudos to them for admitting that. I don't know if it will be fixed in a future software update or even if it can be fixed at all. Perhaps the routing is better in some parts of the country than others, which may explain why there are so many happy users. Still, that's no excuse. Folks who rely on a GPS should expect reliable routing in any part of the country. I am returning this beautiful but crazy GPS to Amazon and keeping the Magellan 4700 which I now know has superior routing.』 『Have you lost your sense of direction? You will be sorry. This product from Garmin has major problems. Garmin is constantly sending out software updates to try in a vain attempt to fix the problems, but it does not work. It will eventually fail. Garmin's customer service sucks much ass. I suggest that you steer clear away from Garmin if you are thinking about purchasing a GPS unit. I had an older Nuvi model that worked fine, but the newer Nuvi products from Garmin are nothing but trash. 』 (rediculous interface) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『back, back, back, back, back, back, back - It wouldn't bother me so much if there was a "home" button or another option to simply take you back to the map if you decide you don't want to go to a specific destination anymore, or if you don't want to look something up (many times i've waited for it to find POI's and it took to long so i just said forget it, i'll find something. That part doesnt bother me as much as after i decide to just drive around, i can't see the map unless i literally hit the back button 17 times. it's pretty, sleek, ads are inobtrusive, traffic is generally accurate, but for those people complaining about it not being 100% accurate all the time, you are wasting your energy because no traffic report is going to be 100% accurate all the time. use common sense with this one. if it's rush hour, there will be traffic. if there is a traffic jam in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, the liklihood of updating immediately is not very high. so friggin what! the traffic map is generally accurate and the arrival time with traffic is also pretty accurate, and if it's not it adjusts. ads are unobtrusive, and overall it's a good device - i got it on discount, so for what i paid it's fine, but i wouldn't be happy if i paid full price for it. i have always used garmins (running gps, etc.) so i'm partial to garmin, which is why i went with this, and even though i would get this again, i'm not hugely impressed with this device. it works, i generally like it.』 (Garimin GPS) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『We lost our old GPS, so we decided to buy this one. Sorry to say, but whenever there's a new version of something, it's always best to wait till the price drops! I paid over $300 for a device that works just like the rest "ok", I should have just bought the $100 version and been happy』 (Very Poor LCD Viewing Angles on my Garmin 755T) ![]() 『Got it from Costco with the preloaded with map version 2010.10 and with the latest firmware, but really surprised by the poor quality of the LCD. (I don't usually write reviews, unless there is a serious problem with a device that warrants spending time to write a review on) The good: The good news is that it works, I don't have a problem with the device freezing or error messages. Text to speech is very good on this garmin (has a more natural sounding voice) compared to a 2x5 series (which sounds more robotic). Plays MP3 and audible. The bad: The Garmin 755T that I got had a LCD with a very poor viewing angle. Tilt is up a bit, and the screen gets really dark. Tilt it down a bit, and the screen becomes white and washed out. I've used a Garmin 265W and a Roadmate 1430, both were budget/mainstream models and had an LCD display with decent viewing angles. But on my Garmin 755T, as long as GPS display isn't directly facing you, the display is washed out. A GPS without a decent display is completely impractical to use, and hence the reason for getting 1 stars. This GPS is going back. (If it had decent viewing angles, than i would've given it 4 stars) Other thoughts: I read good reviews for the 755T before I decided to buy it. So I'm not quite sure why the LCD display quality is so poor. Maybe the reviews were based on when the 755T just came out. Now that the 755T cost about half as much as it did a year ago, maybe Garmin decided to cut corners on the latest batch of 755T. The quality of the LCD is horrible, and not just the viewing angle, you can actually see the uneven backlighting pattern, especially when you set it to about 30% brightness.』 (Love it!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『We've used our Garmin for 2 long trips and will never go back to printing out all those maps before we leave. Sara (we named our Garmin) has a few quirks, like telling us to make u-turns when we don't need to, but if you use common sense, you soon get used to it and just ignore it. Her pronunciation is really good and comforting when we are needing to turn, as she gives us plenty of warning. The lane assist is a great feature and the lifetime traffic is helpful sometimes. None of the stores in our area carry this model, so it was nice that Amazon had it. I would recommend looking on the web for user sites, where you can get a lot of tips for doing things with it that are not in the user manual (have to go online to print manual). Although we travel with a laptop, cameras, etc, if we have to leave the car, we always take "Sara". We feel we could lose the other stuff, but don't want to lose Sara! Sometimes she chooses a weird route, but we've learned some tricks to change it to the way we want to go. The MP3 player is junk as it will only play one track and then you have to go into a set of menus to pull up the next one. We had tried to put in an audio book. It's also helpful to carry state maps with you, but we rarely use them anymore. I never want to be without my Garmin when I travel.』 『Garmin continues to build up its nüvi 7xx series portableGPS navigators with its nüvi 755T, which adds a number of handy routing and communication features to an already impressive list of specs, including a 4.3-inch widescreen display, text-to-speech capabilities, media player, and FM transmitter for transmitting audio--includingdirections and MP3 music and audiobooks--from the device to your car radio.New to the nüvi 7x5 lineup is Garmin's HotFix satellite prediction (which locates your position quickly and precisely), Lane Assist (which provides lane guidance and junction views when possible), automatic time zone transitioning, and 3D Building views as well as Garmin Connect Photos to help you visually ascertain your position. Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip. Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location. For more information, see page 5 of the product manual.
With the new Lane Guidance feature built into the nüvi 7x5 series, you'll never question which lane you should be driving in again. It provides you with a view of what lane you should be in for upcoming turns. And with the 3D Lane Assist Junction View, you'll be able to see a photo-realistic screen that shows you both the road detail as well as thesigns as you will see them on the road. The signs that aren't needed for navigation are faded compared to the appropriate lane signage. Integrated Traffic Receiver All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time. Watch informational video In most areas, the traffic broadcasts are continuous--there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.
