(EXCELLENT CAMERA) 『This is my first SLR camera, and I have NO regrets. The picture quality is superb, very easy to operate, and gives me professional looking pics. I would HIGHLY recommend this camera to anyone.』
(By far the best dslr) 『This DSLr is by far the best one i have owned....Easy to use and and compact...I love shoot with the Potrait lens ...Got a telephoto too which is awesome...I love that it has hd video...but it takes up a lot on my sd card. So prefer just the camera.
Love it..love the great deal on Amazon』
(Amazing DSLR for avid amateur photographers) 『I've had this camera for just over a month now and have been taking photos like a madman. This is a testament to its ease of use and intuitive features. I can't wait to get more acquainted with the "live view" and "video" functions since both were reasons for choosing this particular model. Here's a tip: add a battery grip to give the camera more substance and consider finding a better flash for serious photography. All in all, this camera is just what I needed as an avid, amateur photographer.』
(can't beat it!) 『I got in on a great rebate deal that included this camera, a zoom lens, and a printer. So I feel like this is an amazing camera for the money I spent! This is a significant upgrade from my point-and-shoot, and I am very pleased. I had done my research, so this was not an impulse buy.
Straight out of the box, with a little help from the manual and a "for Dummies" book, I got some great shots! The shots may be beginners luck, but this camera's menus and setting are pretty easy to navigate, so as I uncover more about apertures and focal lenghts, it will hopefully get easier to keep getting the shots.
The video feature is great, but not necessary. It didn't sell me on the camera, but is a nice bonus. I only take little clips to post online for friends and family, so for that it is perfect.』 『15.1-megapixel effective recording * EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens (35mm equivalent focal length: 28-90mm) * 3" color LCD screen (920,000 dots) with two Live View modes * HD movie mode with up to 1080p resolution and mono audio * Auto Lighting Optimizer with three settings to maintain detail in bright and dark areas of your pictures * Highlight Tone Priority for preserving highlights in very bright, light areas of a photograph * Peripheral Illumination Correction mode to counterbalance lens vignetting * DIGIC 4 image processor for extremely responsive handling * EOS Integrated Cleaning System (for cleaning image sensor) * wide-area 9-point autofocus *』

It is a great camera for small children because it can take a picture so fast you don't miss out on a good smile. I am disappionted in the live view mode. It is very hard to use and you can not use it in the auto modes. They don't tell you that up front. If you want to take pictures mostly with your LCD screen in live mode this is not the camera for you. If you enjoy using the view finder this is a great camera for the price.』
(Perfect First DSLR) 『I purchased this camera for my fiancee because she has always liked taking pictures of flowers and plants. I read many reviews before I decided on this camera, and I must say that I think I made the right choice. The camera takes the best close up shots I've ever seen, even compared to other DSLRs that I've had experience with. For the first time user, the full auto mode is perfect to use until you get time to read the manual and understand how to use the more advanced functions. The biggest problems posted by other users seemed to be the noise the camera makes and the weight of the camera. I haven't noticed a problem with either. If you are thinking about trying out a DSLR for the first time, I strongly recommend this camera.』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (No manual = no camera.) 『I purchased this camera last week. I returned it yesterday. The camera only comes with a basic, printed manual. The in-depth manual, the one that any novice user is going to need is included on disk ONLY. This means that you have to lug your computer around if you want to refer to the manual while learning to use the camera. Who's doing that? When I called Canon to inquire as to my missing manual, they told me that I could print the manual from the disk. Yeah, right. On my dime. I already spent hundreds of dollars on their camera and now they want me to spend even more money (and time) to print my own manual? BS!! They said this was part of their "going green" program. Well, guess what? Canon ain't getting any of my green. I returned the camera and bought a Nikon P90 for the exact same price. The Nikon has two manuals the size of the Bible. One in English and one in Spanish. Viva Nikon!
It also appears as though the Nikon has more useful features for me. I own an eBay business and I can actually edit the photos that I take within the camera itself (cropping, borders, light, etc.). This will save me time.
Perhaps the Canon does the same, but I wouldn't know because they were too cheap to print me a manual.
I wish I could comment on the workings of the Canon camera but without a proper manual, I couldn't really learn how to use it. On the day I did attempt to use the camera, I kept having a problem with the macro auto-focus. The images were blurry 50% of the time. When I switched to manual macro-focus, the images were blurry and dark, plus there was a meter of some sort directly in the center of the screen which I couldn't figure out how to remove (or use). It was then that I sought out the manual, only to find it missing. Wading through the online manual was an aggravation that I simply did not want to hassle with, especially when I had work that needed to be done.
What if I hadn't been near my computer when I had some question about the camera's function? Tough luck, I guess.
Bottom line, this is not a camera for a novice and I would not recommend it to anyone. Heck, even if you're not new to digital cameras or photography, you still need to know how to use specific functions on a new camera. It is absurd to think that you must sit in front of your computer and learn, rather than take the camera into the real world and learn as you go.

(Indoor still quality lacking) 『 I have a Canon Powershot S2 IS. I needed 720P video, so I thought, this is a sensible upgrade and as long as the stills are just as good as my S2 IS, I'll be thrilled (I only need stills for the web). Megapixels are not very important to me, as even a 1920x1080 monitor only displays roughly 2 megapixels.
My S2 IS, even though it is only a 5 MP camera and has technology that is several years old, takes WAY better indoor shots than the SX20IS. I tried various settings, flash intensities, changing the ISO, etc., to no avail. The pictures are soft and slightly noisy and this is very noticeable on my PC's display (we're not talking about differences noticed only when printing poster-sized prints).
I also borrowed an S3 IS from a friend and found it was very comparable to my S2 IS as far as indoor image quality goes, which means it was much better than the SX20IS. Same exact shot, three cameras, one obvious loser.
Even if changing the settings worked, it would beg the question...why does my old camera do so much better in Auto mode?
I really had my hopes up for this camera, but should have listened to a few others here and on the Canon website regarding still quality compared to their S5 IS or S3 IS cameras. A lot of them were disappointed too. The stills are just not nearly as crisp as my S2 IS. Whether its the sensor, lack of 'superfine' JPEG compression, WHATEVER, it doesn't matter, the pictures are just not good enough for me.
I love the articulating display and can't imagine having a camera without this feature, which severely limits my camera choices (I hate having to use proprietary memory cards, so Sony is OUT.)
I love everything else about this camera. The battery life far surpasses my S2 IS. The 720P video is amazing. The zoom is incredible. However, I am keeping my S2 IS, returning the SX20IS and maybe I will get a dedicated HD video camera.
Amazon.com's return policy is fantastic, which is why I keep buying from them!』
(Best Overall, every where) 『I was looking for a video camera and got a great still camera for free.
I've never shot video before. This weekend I took a video of a friend's wedding without looking at the instructions and it came out great. The mic's picked everything up and the shots in fading sunlight came out better than expected.
The still camera is a joy to use.
This is my 7th digital camera (2 slrs, 3 prosumer, 2 compacts) and this is the one I will probably use the most.
Buy it you will be happy』
(OK Picture Qulity, Great Video, AF not so good,) 『Bottom Line if you want a camera that kicks butt at Long Range Video and can still take some good shots and allow for aperture control. This Camera is it under $800.00
Video is Great.
Lens Range is Great.
Auto focus is not so great (Compared to SD800)
The Full Auto AF with options is hard to find.
You'll need to read the manual to find the ISO 3000 setting (I haven't yet).
For Low Light pictures with out a Tri-pod. Forget it. Get a point an shoot like the SD800 / SD 780.
Honestly I think cannon could have done better, But I needed to have both a great lense range (For Soccer Video) and High Quality Video and it need to be under $600.00.
For the Money its pretty good.
My theory is this, I can buy twice as good a camera every 18 months, for the same price as the last one.

(Awesome camera with a couple of setbacks...) 『I bought this camera a couple of weeks ago to snap some great shots of my newborn. This camera takes some excellent photos once you get it out of the automatic settings. Using the automatic settings still allows you to take some great photos. High ISO setting naturally will add some noise to your pics when taking low light shots but this can be greatly reduced by using a tripod. Overall quality of the camera is great. It is heavy and wellbuilt. Battery life is pretty descent.
Here are my qualms- Canon did not make threads available for lens filter for this camera. You can buy an adapter for this from [...]but this takes away the option of using your lens hood as the adapter uses the bayonet where the lens hood and would normally attach. It also negates the lens cap when using the lensmate adapter. Canon should have included threads for filters. The Canon sx20is also does not offer remote shutter capabilites.
Overall this a great camera.』 『With a 20x wide-angle zoom, the 12.1-megapixel PowerShot SX20 IS offers intelligent, versatile shooting power. Switch to Smart Auto mode for effortlessly great results, or shoot stunning HD movies.』

(Low end camera and it shows in the picture quality) 『Our Canon 780IS met an unfortunate demise (dropped) and had to be replaced. I didn't want to spend a lot because I was also thinking about getting an SLR, so I decided to go with a low end Canon point and shoot to cover the gap before I jumped into SLR territory. I got the A1100IS because it was at the "top" of the line of Canon's low end cameras and I have had very good experience with Canon products.
Build quality seemed OK, but you can tell there is more plastic in this camera than in the Elph models I've owned. I liked that the camera has a bulge grip as it is less likely to be dropped. Form factor it is a little bit bigger than the Elph series, but that is to be expected. I'm only giving it two stars because of the picture quality. The camera did not focus well, or quickly for me. Trying to snap pictures of our two small boys was very difficult. The autofocus would lock onto other objects in the frame and the subjects would be blurry. This was not obvious looking at the picture on the LCD screen, but once the picture got into the PC for viewing we were very disappointed about missing some shots. My wife took pictures at the school's halloween parade, so mind you these are fairly slow moving kids in costumes, and only about half of them turned out to be in focus.
I then took my son outside for an experiment. I asked him to walk slowly at a diagonal into the camera's view and snapped several pictures using "Easy", "Automatic" and "Kids&Pets" settings. Nearly all of them came out blurry. The camera simply could not detect him in the picture and instead chose to focus on other, stationary objects. I was actively trying to get that little green 'focus' box on him, but it just wouldn't cooperate.
I sent it back to Amazon (first time I think I've used their return policy) and ordered a Canon SD1200IS for just a few extra bucks. After some limited use appears to do a much better job, similiar to my older, deceased Canon.
Also, I just ordered the Canon T1i through Amazon. (Takes pretty Cool Pics...) 『So, Ive used a bunch of digital cameras in my life, but i had never really owned one. So, in preparation for my trip to Australia I decided to buy this Coolpix camera from Nikon. Now that my trip is over and after 700 pics taken in just over 3wks Down Under, I have to say the Nikon Coolpix is a pretty decent camera. Its one of the easiest cameras Ive ever used. Right out of the box, you pop in a digital media card for photo storage and then turn it on and you are ready to start shooting with the Auto Focus setting already enabled. This auto focus setting changes on the fly (which is good for beginning photo shooters) depending on the kind of shot your taking or time of day (sunlight or evening) your shooting photos. There are other focus modes available as well for more advanced photographers. There is also a video mode that allows you to shoot .avi videos. Has a great power saving function as well that turns off the camera after about 15 seconds of non-use as well. The one thing I dont really like about the camera is the slow turn on time. When you want to get a shot and need to take a quick photo, the Coolpix has a very slow turn on. It takes about 3 to 5 seconds before its ready for an actual picture. Otherwise, for the price I paid, Im very happy with the product...!』

Panasonic
Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Beautiful Camera, but about the battery...) 『My wife had purchased a Panasonic point-and-shoot in the past, and frankly, the image quality was fantastic.
Now, truth be told, I have too many digital cameras; I have some very nice DSLR's and some standard Canon point and shoot, and a tiny little Casio that is so portable.
But what I was looking for was a point and shoot with an extreme telephoto to wide angle, reasonable size and HD movie capability. I was traveling to a race, and I wanted to take all the kinds of shots my DSLR would take, but without the bulk.
And this camera does all of that. Whatever processing Panasonic applies to the pictures, things really "pop" on the screen. It's almost hard to take a bad picture. It's beautifully made, and you can set up modes that can be customized to what you need. It's well thought out enough that you can actually get "deep" into the camera without a manual.
Is it perfect? Oh no.
First of all there are two major flaws that detracts from the camera significantly: first the battery life is poor. You get about 100 photo taken and you can see you're running out of juice. I've tried all kinds of tricks, reducing the view-screen time to minimal, have it shut off very aggressively; there's simply no way to have the battery last the entire day. Normally, you'd just buy another battery, but this actually has some sort of "chip" in the battery which will not accept anything other than Panasonic batteries. And what's worse, original batteries are hard to find and expensive when you do.
The other flaw is that shutter lag is long for a camera in 2009. This will affect action shots (like races).
You should also realize that unlike other high end cameras, the Panasonic does not let you set either shutter speed or aperture; instead you choose from many modes and adjust specific parameters. I don't think this is "worse" for just snapshots, but it's a mind-set change.
The good outweighs the bad however. Unlike the Canon line, this actually has a very usable 720p video mode, and it has stereo microphones. The pictures are fantastic when you stay within the parameters the camera was designed for, and physically, the camera is rugged and solid feeling.
It's good at what it does, but the battery issue (both life and availability) should be considered in your choice.』
(A camcorder that takes pictures, by chance) 『I was looking for a new camcorder. While searching and comparing Kodak Zi8 and Mino Flip HD, I came through a review which suggested this ZS3 instead. So, when you compare specs with these 3 models, the ZS3 comes out a winner. For about $60 more (than you would spend on a Kodak or Flip) you get a Full HD camcorder, a *fantastic* point and shoot and REAL lenses - which, by the way, has a 12x OPTICAL zoom.
My only 2 complaints would be (A:) the lack of a power cable to charge its battery directly, and (B:) the battery life - way too short compared to my old and reliable Sony P200. A firmware upgrade Panasonic done on this camera rendered useless ALL the compatible (grey market) batteries out there. So you can only turn to Panasonic's original (and quite expensive) battery. Such a shame.
The pros, on the other hand, outweights by a large amount these 2 negative points. Please, read on.
Its autofocus is simply magic. I got a small kid, which stands still for about 1/2 second. Anyone with small kids knows what I'm talking about. This ZS3 uses that split second to get a hold on the subject and follows around the fugitive kid - correcting the focus! So you can press the shutter button whenever you want: most pictures will come out just crystaline.
And it also got face recognition. Not quite smart- sometimes it's not able to recognize a already registered face - but impressive when it gets right. You can register 5 faces on the ZS3.
About the camcorder use. The files generated when filming with the ZS3 is something alien (in a very complex file-folder structure) which I can only access (read and write in a different format) with iMovie '09. VLC also can read and play them, but since VLC cannot export and save, it's no good. Final Cut Pro doesn't seem to recognize the connected ZS3. I read somewhere FCP is supposed to recognize and import these video files in Log and Capture dialog window, but I wasn't able to do so.
Since these videos *are* in AVCHD native format (and very compressed), passing them through Apple Compressor gives you a small file with pretty heavy artifacts. Even choosing H.264 codec. That is: the video becomes dirty and useless.
The bottomline: good camera, fair pricing (not cheap), that I can recommend for anyone interested in a good portable Full HD camcorder that - eventually - is a superb point-and-shoot photographic camera.』
(Excellent point and shoot camera) 『I used this camera on a 3 week honeymoon to South Africa and it performed very well on safari, hiking, sightseeing, etc.
Pros: - Wide angle lens is a must for scenery shots, and makes it easier to take photos of yourself if you're a traveling couple - 12x optical zoom is amazing in such a small package. Good image stabilization means it's actually usable, too! - Very good battery life and a great compact charger design - HD video (720p) with stereo sound! Many of the comparable Canons don't offer that yet. - Zoom works during video recording. Again, many competitors lock the zoom during recording - It's an attractive piece of equipment and fit in a big pants pocket - Accepts my 32gb SD card (SDHC class 6). That's a ridiculous 5.5 hours of HD video or 5000 10mp photos!
Cons: - Autofocus is a little tricky--but I probably just need to read the manual more thoroughly :) - Still not very good in low light - The zoom in/out mechanism is a little loud. I can sometimes hear it in a totally silent video - The included wrist strap doesn't have a movable cinch, so you can't make it tight around your wrist』
(Called Lowepro to get camera case recommendations.) 『OK. After reading the reviews I was totally unsure which camera case to buy for my Panasonic Lumix ZS3. Many of the reviews indicated the cases were tight (Rezo30 for eg) and not able to hold extra card and battery. Amazon does recommend fitment off acouple cases that defitnitely seem too small.
Since I don't like to return things, I decided to call the pro's at Lowenpro in California to get their take on it. Here it is: For the Lumix ZS3. Lowenpro product specialist recommended to me today:
Rezo 50 Apex 20AW Apex 30AW
The AW stands for all weather. They said the rezo is a lighter less weather proof case. I think any of these would suffice. If you take it outdoors, maybe the AW models would be the way to go. Hope this helps....』
(Great camera, great price!) 『I usually use DSLR, but I need a pocket camera for "1-click" shooting. This one is exactly what I needed! Of course you can't compare its picture quality to a DSLR, but for a point-and-shoot, this is good enough for me.』 『The ZS3 records HD motion images at a smooth 60 frames per second with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution. The camera does all the rest. It automatically determines the most suitable scene mode and helps correct blurring, focus, and brightness problems. With iA mode, it's easy to get beautiful, clear results. In the ZS3, iA mode cannot be used when shooting motion images. The ZS3 packs a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens with 12x optical zoom into a compact body. (Pleasantly surprised at video Quality) 『I've used lots of digicams. My initial impression of the SD780IS is that it does a great job for its size, and my Made-in-Japan version seems sturdy and well-built.
There are plenty of good reviews here about the PQ of the still shots, so I won't comment there, and I'm not much of a photographer anyway.
But for the video, I'm very impressed. I've tried 3 or 4 different still cams that do HD video, and so far the Canon rules them all. It beats the video from my main digicam, a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. Although the TZ5 lets you zoom while shooting, it inevitably loses focus while doing so. So that's a wasted feature.
In contrast, you cannot zoom on the Canon while shooting, but you can pre-zoom before hitting the record button. This trade-off in my opinion, is worth the far better video quality of the Canon. The color is true and there is a lot less noise and graininess than the Panasonic. Just make sure you disable the digital zoom.
Don't expect miracles for video from any still camera. My only expectation was respectable video quality under optimal (i.e. daylight) conditions. No still camera will ever replace my HF200 as a camcorder, but for spontaneous daylight clips, this camera is great to have in my pocket.』

(A very small but very powerfull Point-And-Shoot Camera!!) 『You would not need all it's 12 Megapixels but it's good to have them for zooming into details and cropping of the picture after you took it. The picture quality is just perfect. Easy to use and very quick.
The zoom could be bigger but it's more than enough for your everyday shooting situations and even a little more.
I just like it and that's why we bought a second one for my wife. And she loves hers too. Especially how small it is. It really fits into every pocket and you can have it always handy.
HD Video, can you believe it. Perfect quality. The audio is decent.
It's hard to spoil a picture with this camera!!』 『It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn't be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon's most innovative camera technology. Even when picture-taking conditions seem pretty unforgiving, you've got Canon on your side. So the shots you used to miss are the images you'll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD unforgettable.』

It's easy, takes very clear photos and small enough to carry around. She is very interested in learning photography and this is an excellent first camera for that purpose.』
(this camera is nice) 『i love canon and this camera does not disappoint. my last elph was a little more user friendly, but having had one before i figured it out pretty quickly. the quality of the pictures is great and it's very easy to carry around being about the size of a business card, and light weight. plus it's adorable and green.』
(Good camera, but some things you need to know) 『Found this to be an attractive, compact camera with lots of great features as listed in other reviews. I'm not a camera expert, so I won't comment on how it compares to other models. Just two important, practical things to know: 1) this camera does NOT come with a memory card, really important info to know if you plan to use it immediately on the day you get it. No memory card....no pictures. Might as well go ahead and get one while ordering the camera. This adds another $20-$25 to the price of the camera, so you may want to consider this when cost comparing.
2) The camera is compact enough to fit in a pocket which is great, BUT it is almost too small for someone with large hands to operate comfortably. Also the finish is pretty, but so smooth that it is very easy to slip out of your hands. Using the wrist strap everytime is crucial if you hope to do so without dropping it.』
(Great pocket camera) 『I gave my neice an SD1100 last year and she is still raving about it. I decided to buy one for myself and, of course, they were discontinued. The SD1200 turned out to be a fantastic little camera. It takes great pictures and yet it fits easily into a pocket. It's the perfect camera for travel. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.』
(What a snap!) 『Point and shoot! It's that simple. If you want to play with the settings, you can... but why?』 『When a camera puts a smile on your face the moment you hold it, imagine how great you'll feel when you see your first pictures! The PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH has everything going for it - exuberant color, the sculptured style of Canon's famed ELPH series - and the innovative know - how that takes you to a whole new level of picture-taking accomplishment. Fun, smart and a style follow you everywhere.』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (brilliant, with qualifications) 『I have a Canon S3 IS and a 40D. I have enjoyed the S3, but find it limiting due to a lack of a hot shoe for flash, and it does not shoot RAW. But I'll keep it around for it's long zoom range and decent image quality.
I am enjoying getting to know my 40D, but it feels rather conspicuous and obtrusive at times. I wanted something less obtrusive for people pictures, and something portable to "grab and go." Enter the G11.
Overall, I like it; it is much more portable than a DSLR, though for someone who is used to more diminutive point and shoots, it may seem bulky. To me if feels light (almost too light), and it's compactness makes the controls feel a little cramped. But it does look pretty cool, and feels pretty sturdy.
I like the "analog" dials, with easy access to most of the features I use frequently. One of my favorite surprises was the ability to set the timer for face recognition -- a 2 second count down starts when a face enters the view.
It won't replace my 40D -- but I didn't expect it to. I knew it would have some limitations; for me, these include a slight shutter lag when pressing the shutter, compared to the 40D (but not as bad as the S3), and a slow burst rate (a little less than 1 a shot per second). It also has too much noise at ISO 400 and up, so I will only use 200 or lower, which generally won't be a problem for me since I tend to use flash indoors.
The zoom range is 5x (optical) which suits my intended purpose, but it wouldn't work if this were my only camera. I would want a little more reach on the long end.
But for portability, decent construction, great image quality (below ISO 400), image stabilization and some nifty features (shooting RAW, hot shoe, face detection, etc), I consider this a keeper. Thanksgiving will be the real test...』
(Wasn't a compelling upgrade from my G7) 『I've had a G7 for a while and really like it. When they announced the G11, I pre-ordered it on Amazon. I had really high hopes for it. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth the wait as an upgrade.
I took a bunch of photos with my G7 and G11 of the same subjects and compared them. The G11 does do much better with respect to noise at higher ISO settings. Otherwise the picutres were hard to tell apart. The articulated screen for the G11 really adds considerable size compared to the G7, so that was a negative for me given that it was still a point and shoot. Together, I didn't think it was worth the $500.
So, instead I kept the G7, returned the G11 to Amazon, and bought a Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens. I love the Rebel, which is the first DSLR I've owned.
The G11 a great camera if you are looking to buy what might be the best point and shoot digital camera. If you are not upgrading from another Canon G series with image stabilization, it's a great camera to consider. I simply felt that it wasn't a worthwhile upgrade.

(Great pictures, cumbersome handling) 『I would have really liked to love this camera since there are so few alternatives on the market in this price range. But I have to say that Canon just skimped too much trying to maintain its presence in the category. Understandably, the yen has appreciated considerably against the US dollar so they had to cut down on giving us the features we would have liked (24mm equivalent wide angle lens and a bigger zoom perhaps), but I could have lived without it if it weren't for the awkward weight balance and the thin grip (at least, for my hands which are not big by any means but also not small). The pictures that it takes are very nice. I am not a professional though, so I am looking for something that is relatively easy to carry around and that doesn't require too much hassle to put on the polarizing filter I have come to demand for my work. Canon should have given the way the lens extends and how that impacts the extension tube setup a lot more thought. And yet, I could have lived with that too, but this is no small camera and it weighs my bag down like a brick. The lens cover is flimsy in my opinion, something that I noticed in at least one or two other reviews but simply refused to believe. Disappointed, I am returning it.』
(Perfect step up from a point and shoot) 『I am not a professional photographer. My previous camera was a Canon 790IS point and shoot. I started considering the G11 when I reached a point where I wanted to do things with my photography that the 790IS was simply incapable of.
There are three main reasons why the G11 has been perfect for me:
1. I take a lot of pictures of food (and never use a flash in restaurants), so the low light performance was very attractive. Except for some far more expensive SLRs, I haven't seen anything that matches the G11's low light performance. 2. I love taking pictures from interesting perspectives, so the articulated LCD really helps when I'm composing shots from those angles. 3. The G11 has lots of dials, which saves a ton of time when trying different settings while shooting. While the G11's menus are easy to understand (especially if you've used a Canon before), going though on-screen menus is slow and generally a pain. The physical dials make changing the settings fast and painless.
I'm very happy with this camera and would recommend it to anyone looking for the next step up from a point and shoot.』
(Canon PowerShot G11 review) 『Over time I've owned nearly all the PowerShot G system cameras and still have the G1 and G2 for sentimental reasons. On a few occasions I've had these cameras converted to infrared usage. The line is well respected and there is never a problem of finding an eager buyer when it comes time to upgrade. For me the switch from my G10 to the G11 was justified for the rotatable LCD alone. I can stuff the camera into a bag on a bike trip without fear of scuffing the LCD. The image quality is essentially the same as the G10, with less high ISO noise being balanced with the G10's increased resolution. My shooting habits are simply carried over as the controls and menu sets are relatively unchanged. The camera allows for one button push auto exposure bracketing for HDR's. The flip out LCD allows for a more secure and stable cradling of the camera while handheld away from the eye.』 『The PowerShot G11 is a compact camera that will find favor with professionals and advanced amateur photographers due to its superb image quality, full manual control of settings, and RAW shooting capability. If it's not practical or safe to carry a large DSLR a high-specification compact such as the PowerShot G11 is a fantastic choice. It's great for photographers looking to capture high resolution, high quality, and low light images without having to carry a large SLR system in their kit bags. The G11 features face detection technology that can detect and track numerous faces within the frame to ensure the correct exposure and focus for them. An enhanced i-Contrast system optimizes the dynamic range of subjects to deliver shadow details whilst avoiding highlight blow outs.』
