Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Excellent Product)
『The Pioneer receiver is just what we wanted. The manual is difficult to understand but after several attempts we figured out how to connect everything. Our receiver is on an open shelf so we have no issues with overheating.』

(Great AVR with some very useful features)
『The audio and video performance is solid and it has more than enough power for my 7.1 system. The best feature is the totally automatic speaker system calibration. Set the included mic at your center listening positon, press start, and walk away for 5 mins. The receiver runs through a battery of tests on each speaker and sets everything up. You can then go in and review the setup an tweak it if you would like. I increased the sub woofer by 2db (I like to "feel" sonic booms and explosions) and that was it. The manual is a bit overwelhming but I have learned in the past that it is best to get the basic system up and running then in a day or two, go through the manual again and add or tweak the more sophisticated features.

I almost called Pioneer when I got picture but no sound. Went through all of the setting twice and then found that Pioneer's startup setting for volume is low/low. Somewhat embarrassed, I turned the volume up and that solved the problem.

The only complaint I have is that the remote can not learn from another remote and would not accept any of the Directv codes. My Pro-151FD TV remote did not accept the Directv codes either but it has a learning function. I didn't plan on using the AVR remote but it is an issue if you do.

Its a great unit at a reasonable price.』

(TIRED OF LOOKING?)
『I wanted to save someone some time if they were like me... looking for a great receiver at a decent price.

After 2 months of research and three returned products that didn't live up to the hype (other brands) I found what I was looking for.

*Sound quality is unsurpassed even with higher dollar receivers.
*Features are more abundant, great for an audiophile but still simple (If you go with defaults and auto setup).
*Set up was fairly simple for someone with even basic knowledge.
*Remote control is BIG. While I understand simplifying this many features on one remote is tough... there is a lot going on with this remote. Yes, it does the job nicely but it still is "busy".

* HEAT ISSUE:
I've heard a lot of people mentioning heat with this unit; let me be clear. Airflow is important in almost all electronic components. There is heat with all decent receivers with any power to them. You SHOULD NEVER fully enclose a receiver or amp that is pushing this kind of power. Heat and buildup should always be a concern. With proper ventillation, this unit disipates fine.

Seperation and range and were exactly what I was looking for and I got it with this product.

This easiliy fills a large room and has a 2nd zone which comes in handy for music on outside speakers.

Compared to many at this price level, this unit seems like quality from every aspect. Looks, materials and performance.

I rarely take time to write reviews but this purchase took me more time than I wanted it to and I thought I would write to try to save you some time if you are in the same position I was.

My humble opinion... If this is your price range, Buy the unit.

I'm glad I did.

(Does not live up to a Pioneer)
『This replaced my Pioneer D509S. My D509 was old and controlled audio but had little video or compressed audio ability. Otherwise it was a great, quality product. I had been looking for a replacement from Pioneer for several years (older 101x models). I looked at other brands, but was so impressed with my Pioneer that I wanted to stay with the brand and wait for the right product. Although this model has many of the features I was looking for, it doesn't live-up to the quality and substance I was expecting.

The biggest wins for me are the video switching capabilities, including both audio&video HDMI switching along with up-conversion. The sound is also great, but my ears are old and somewhat short of audiophile quality. Aside from the video switching, one of the biggest features is the Sound Retriever capability that significantly improves the sound of compressed audio files (MP3, IPod, WMA, etc.). I have almost 15,000 MP3s (almost all legally acquired) on a computer that is hooked up to my Receiver and the Sound Retriever difference is substantial (even with my old ears). It definitely gets it back to almost full CD quality. I hadn't noticed how drab they sounded until I had the benefit of this feature. This feature has made the whole receiver worth the investment.

My biggest disappointments are the corners Pioneer has cut on this unit. The first clue is the 5x8 Operations Manual made with cheap, almost tissue thin, off-white paper printed with a very small, thin font. My old manual was 8.5x11, quality white paper with a much larger and far more legible font. My old, dog-eared manual had much wear&tear over the years. It took a licking and kept on ticking for a long time. This one is, at best, of marginal utility because it is so frail and difficult to use (but most of the information is good). My primary issue, however, is how hot it runs. Prior year models weighted about 10lbs more than this one. I believe a lot of that weight included heat-sinks and other heat dissapating features. My unit really runs hot. Fortunately, I am able to direct a small mini-fan over the top which does a great job dissapating the heat. Maybe this unit is up to the heat, but I belive significant heat will reduce the life of the receiver. This issue alone is what dropped my overall rating so much. Finally, the remote, though very functional, seems to be cheaply made. Certainly in comparison to the one for my old D509. That one was built like a tank. This one is more like a cheap toy.

Overall, I think this is a quality receiver. I just can't believe Pioneer puts out a $500 receiver and cheapens it with such low quality accessories... and the heat could be a killer!』

(Pioneer VSX-1019)
『After using an LG brand HTib for many years it was time for an upgrade.
I purchased the VSX-1019 along with Bose Acoustimass 6 Series III.
I use the Pioneer 90% music, 10% movies / games.

I listen to all of my music on vinyl on the Numark TTX1 connected to the receiver via Digital Coaxial.
My main concern before buying is was whether or not it can force a Stereo source (turntable / or non Dolby 5.1 television shows) through all 5 speakers - which it can.

Blu-ray, DVD, and PS3 games sound great. Crisp bass and low frequencies and the vocals are loud and clear.

I rarely use the ipod feature but the Ipod connectivity is certainly a plus. An ipod cord comes with the unit so there's no need to buy an additional dock or connection cord. The on-screen display including album artwork is a nice touch, however, scrolling through thousands of songs or playlists on screen can be sluggish. It's best to use the Ipod control feature. Highly compressed mp3's sound excellent. Higher bitrate mp3s sound even better.

Set up is a simple. The auto mic speaker set-up is accurate and easy to use. It's simple to manually adjust the settings afterwards although I felt no need to do so.

If you are currently using an all in one home theater in a box, or are looking for an upgrade to your current receiver with more connectivity and features, I highly recommend this product.

『The VSX-1019AH-K represents the pinnacle of the Pioneer receiver line. This hub for your home entertainment center allows you to enjoy your favorite movies on Blu-ray disc, DVD or VHS on your flat-panel television like never before. With standard features that include a phenomenal ability to upscale and convert analog video signals to 1080p when transmitted through HDMI to your high definition television, the VSX-1019AH-K¿s video scaler presents you with nothing but the best quality possible today ¿ regardless of what video source it receives.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Not what I expected)
『I understood that this was a simple, inexpensive receiver that I could use to replace an old Pioneer model that had gone bad. I wanted to hook up my phono turntable, cassett tape deck and CD player. Unfortunately, it did not appear to have phono inputs. I contacted Sony support and they confirmed that this receiver was not able to handle a turntable by itself. They said that if the turntable had a built in amp, or if I could run it through an amp between the turnable and the receiver, then it would work. That's not my situation, so I'll send the product back to Amazon. I am disappointed that the information I could find on Amazon when purchasing this model did not point out its limitations.』

(Nothing special -- over-rated)
『I have to say the reviews here seriously over-rate this receiver. I wanted to replace my 25 year old Denon DRA-600 receiver with this thing. I simply plugged in all my existing components and speakers and compared. If you are used to quality sound, you will be disappointed by this receiver. Nothing is crisp -- it's as if a table cloth was placed over my speakers -- just not much dynamic range for 21st century electronics. It's not fit for your living room stereo system -- maybe for a rec room theater system or your kid's bedroom. I'm keeping my old, old receiver. Don't know what to do with this thing.』

(Sony STR-DHJ100)
『This is an excellent receiver for the money.
I am powering 4 sets of speakers in the house and
the Amp handles this task very well. It has only one
draw back, that I have found in the first month, there are no
power outlets on the back to assist with connecting you CD player
and to syn power. However I would still recommend this unit..』

(An excellent buy...)
『After visiting several stores and reading many online reviews , I purchased this Sony STR-DH100 2-Channel Audio Receiver as a replacement for my aging receiver. I just wanted a basic sound system for a reasonable price and without a whole lot of "bells and whistles". I only use it for listening to music and the radio. I couldn't be more pleased with the quality of sound and ease of installation and operation. My speakers are located in the ceiling of 5 rooms throughout my house and the quality of the receiver has significantly improved the sound that comes through each of the speakers. As other reviewers have said, this Sony Audio Receiver is an excellent piece of equipment for a reasonable cost. I would purchase it again without reservation and highly recommend it for anyone looking for a basic audio receiver that delivers high quality sound at a reasonable price.
You can't go wrong with this one!』

(Good reciever at a great price.)
『I've been pleasently suprised by this expensive reciever. It has good sound quality, looks good (matches my other systems) and is very inexpensive. I use it to increase the volumen of my TV/DVD, and it does a fine job with the Sony bookshelf speakers SS-B1000. It is also small enought to fit on my mantle under the TV (~12" deep).

I'll update after a year of use.』

『The STR-DH100 delivers clear, dynamic stereo sound for every day music fans and rooms where a complex home theater system is not needed. The STR-DH100 transforms any secondary living environment into a concert hall. In addition, the STR-DH100 features Sony's digital media port input that allows you to extend your music selection from an iPod, Walkman digital player, Bluetooth device or from a PC (accessories sold separately).』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Good but not ideal for a variety of components)
『I am replacing my 17 year old Onkyo receiver and bought this after a bit of research. Much improved over the years and sounds better than the old unit. I love the sound and the easy setup. The instruction manual is great.

I have a variety of components, some HDMI, some composite video, some digital video, etc. As mentioned in other reviews, this unit will only output the same format that is input. This means that if you have composite video in, you will need to output composite video. For my situation, this meant a variety of output cables and additional button pressing when switching between components (e.g. cable box to DVD player).

Considering the cost of cables, I decided to go with the TX-SR607 because it converts all inputs to HDMI output. This means no adjustments to the TV input when switching components and no additional cables. Wish I knew this before I ordered the product and thought I would share my experience.

If all of my components were HDMI I would certainly choose this receiver.』

(A lotta receiver for a little money!)
『I finally broke down and decided to put my faithful ol' Onkyo SV-525 out to pasture (or into the garage, to be exact) and replace it with an AV receiver with HDMI so I could take full advantage of my Samsung LCD. I did some research and settled on either Yamaha or Onkyo; my old Onkyo has treated my very well, and I used to have a Yamaha shelf system that kicked out way more sound than it should have so I don't think I could have made a wrong decision, as both seem to be outstanding. The main differentiator was the Zone 2 operation, as I run a pair of speakers out on my patio; the 507 offers Zone 2 at $349 while the first Yamaha model to offer Zone 2 is the RX-V665 at $549. I was still debating but when I saw the 507 offered for $299, it was a no-brainer.

When I hooked it up, I immediately popped in a CD to test it out and - uh oh - it sounded horrible compared to my old one! No low end, very hollow mids - it sounded pathetic. After making the knee-jerk decision that I should have gone with the Yamaha, I gathered myself and decided to run the Audyssey calibration. What a difference! All of sudden, I was in the middle of a Dave Matthews concert as opposed to hearing it from my car out in the parking lot. It senses the power and range of each speaker, including the sub, and decides what and how much to send to each speaker; after it saves the settings, you are free to tweak it as you wish.

I use it quite a bit for music and concert DVDs and whether in the stereo mode or one of the surround modes, this receiver creates a soundstage that is much bigger than my old unit. With the center channel disabled for CDs, the music is strong and powerful. On a DVD, the 5.1 puts you right in the middle of the performance - very smooth mids, crisp highs and it does a great job blending the lower range in with the sub when using the LFE output. Sound-wise, I am very happy with this receiver. I am running 2 Yamaha in-wall 150W dual 6.5s for the L and R channels and a 175W BIC FH6 center, also with dual 6.5s and a horn tweeter. For the rears, I installed 150W 6.5-inch BIC Muros, and my sub is also BIC, the V1020. (I highly recommend the BIC America speaker lines as well - not commercially sexy or flashy, but they are consistently near the top of consumer tests and deliver great sound for about half of what you'll pay for the better-known popular brands.) Anyway, the Onkyo drives them very smoothly with a lot of power and depth.

As far as the video, it seems to perform very well, too. I am running digital cable through one HDMI and upscaling DVD through another HDMI. Signal seems to be passed through cleanly, as the picture looks great on both. The only modification you may want to make when hooking up would be to run an additional RCA cord from your cable box to an unused audio input on the receiver in order to allow you to listen to the cable audio through Zone 2 - you cannot select an HDMI source to send to the Zone 2 speakers, but this will solve your issue. Run the cable sound to, say, the CD input on the receiver and then select CD as your Zone 2 output.

I'm not a gamer so I can't really attest to the gaming modes, but if they are anything like the choices you have for video and audio, you should be happy. I do like the fact that they included Zone 2 controls on the front of the unit - this is a nice improvement, as on my old one you had to use the remote for adjustments. Do note, though, that when you switch on Zone 2, the surround function will be disabled and both zones will be in stereo mode. Not a big deal to me but if that is a deal-breaker for you, you'll have to drop the extra cash on the Yamaha. Another nice addition is the front mini-jack input that enables you to plug in an iPod without having to buy the dock or take up an input with RCAs just to used a iPod once in a while.

As I said, I don't think I could have made a wrong decision between the Onkyo or the Yamaha - both are excellent. Crutchfield suggested that the higher current of the Onkyo would result in a cleaner sound, but supposedly that can make it run a bit hot as well. (I haven't noticed any problems yet as far as that goes.) I will say that, if you have a lot of gaming devices and other video devices, the Yamaha may be a better choice for you, as it offers more HDMI inputs. But if you are only going to use 4 HDMI inputs and are not interested in 7.1, this is an excellent option. You don't often find a powered Zone 2 option on a receiver in this price range, either. For the money, you will not find a better quality receiver; if you don't mind spending a little more, think about last year's Onkyo 606, this year's 607 or HT-RC160. I got 14 trouble free years out of my last Onkyo and expect I'll do the same with this one!

(Onkyo TX-SR507 Receiver)
『I am very pleased with this Onkyo TX-SR507 receiver. It replaced my Onkyo TX-SR607 which cost twice as much and now had been struck by a lightning surge. This new receiver has better balanced sound than my previous more expensive receiver. The HDMI inputs were a welcome addition and made operation of my system flow much easier with less cables. I could have wished for one more Optical Audio input but I was able to use the Coax Audio input which performs almost as well. The automatic audio setup process worked much better than on my old system. I only needed to make some small tweaks to get the sound I like. The smaller physical size was also welcome making it easier to place in my entertainment center. Anyone need my old Onkyo TX-SR607 for parts? If so email me at [...] and we will talk.』

(Great sound and features)
『I replaced an older Yamaha (non HDMI/HD) receiver with this one. The Onkyo was easy to set up although it took a while to figure out how to set all the options I needed. Sounds great. My biggest complaint is with the manual and Onkyo support. Since I am new to HDMI devices I had alot of trouble in making all my components work since my old DVD player and new Onkyo iPod dock are not HDMI. Two emails from Onkyo support were even more vague than the manual so I had to spend a while in trial and error until I got it all working. Not fun when your TV and equipment fit tightly in a cabinet and you have to take everything out to plug, replug while trying to keep all the cables as neat as possible.

I was going to buy the SR607 since it was highly recommended from the electronIc store clerks. One of them even hugged the receiver while telling me how much he loved it!!. However, I didn't need 7:1 surround sound so settled on this one and it sounds great. Can't wait to get a Blu Ray player next.』

(good deal)
『After having let go of my old Sony TV, and beeing treated to a very nice picture from my new (from Amazone) Samsung 55, I also heard that my old Pioneer surround system was not up to date, I ended up choosing the Onkyo 507. IT IS FAR BETTER that I expected. (I kept the old speakers.) The only thing so far is that I am having problems with setting up my old JVC -DVD player. I am getting sound, but no signal at this point. I will seak help. Maybe someone "out there" knows what to do..??

『If you’re looking for a budget-friendly A/V receiver that offers versatile connectivity and compatibility with the latest processing technology, Onkyo’s TX-SR507 has you covered. With four HDMI 1.3a inputs, it can accept up to four high-definition sources—from Blu-ray Disc to HD broadcasting to high-def games—and output them to your compatible HDTV. HDMI 1.3a also enables you to enjoy the pristine “lossless” audio of Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™, as well as secondary audio on Blu-ray Disc via DTS-HD Express. The TX-SR507 comes with a suite of Audyssey surround-sound technologies to help tailor audio output to the unique dimensions of your entertainment space. Meanwhile, a new universal port makes it easy to incorporate an optional Onkyo Dock for the iPod® or Onkyo HD Radio tuner into your system. With all this, plus four high-impact Game Modes and the ability to senddifferent audio to two rooms simultaneously, the TX-SR507 puts a huge amount of entertainment potential at your fingertips.』

(Do you hear what I hear?)
『Beautiful sound, beautiful performance, the change is so dramatic it is unbelievable. The most irritating thing is the speaker wire hook ups.
Essentially screw post type, but a new improved twenty-first century design
to help you learn new cuss words. Seriously, I love this amp and would
highly recommend it to anyone.』

(The Sony Sweet Spot)
『I am one of those who's entire system is Sony. The only exception is with a Cerwin Vega powered sub, and the front speakers which are mid-90 Pioneer.

This seems like the sweet spot in the Sony line up, the perfect combination of great price and surprising performance. It has been 11 years since buying my first Sony receiver after college. It was an AV receiver and had 5.1 surround, dolby and a number of other theater and sound related features. It sounded good, but tonight after I finally got around to connecting all my speakers, I was stunned when I inserted a blu-ray into my PS3. I just wasn't expecting such incredible surround clarity, and blending. It blew me away, my jaw dropped and it stayed that way. AND I still have yet to use any HDMI connections, even now all my connections are RCA jacks and I have yet to use the little microphone that adjusts all the speakers specifically for my room and set up.

I guess some have had some difficulty with initial set up, but if you have had component systems before, this shouldn't be too hard to figure out. I won't have a chance to work with HDMI until I get an LCD flatscreen, and I'm still waiting for those to improve, be easier to calibrate, cost less, and use less energy. I just think they still need those improvements.

One more thing. I ordered this on Amazon through the seller WholesaleAV. They were not only the best price, but they were also very fast, and are highly rated.』

(Great sound but you need to make changes if you have a PS3)
『I set up my new receiver yesterday, and it took over an hour, given Sony's propensity for screw-in type speaker connections. The first surprise was not being able to control the PS3 and my Satellite DVR with the remote's control buttons. I had to use their HDMI locations, i.e. HDMI 4 for the Satellite and HDMI 3 for the PS3. Keep in mind that the BEST sound is reproduced through the HDMI 3 location, so ignore the picture in the manual that has you putting your BD at HDMI 1. If you read the manual fine print you will see that they tell you to use HDMI 3 connection for the best sound reproduction.

It is a given that Sony's product manuals are written by persons from other planets so you just have to stumble through when it comes to issues such as the PS3 BD Player putting out EVERYTHING in Linear PCM, including THX, DTS HD and etc. I did everything I could think of to change that. I confirmed the HDMI control was set to ON in both the 800 and the PS3, I confirmed that the AUTOMATIC sound control was set in the PS3 and still no DTS-HD being produced on TAKEN, a movie with that attribute.

So, I called SONY. The first person I spoke with was clueless, and had little mastery of the English language. He said I should turn off my receiver for an hour and do the setup all over again. Foolishly I did that. Nothing changed. The PS3 Blu Ray component was still putting out Linear PCM exclusively.

I called Sony again and spoke to Manuel, who was anything but clueless. He told me to go into my PS3 Video settings and click on BD/DVD AUDIO OUTPUT. Lo and behold it was set to Linear PCM. I clicked on the only other option, BITSTREAM, and clicked OK. I then put TAKEN (my test BRDVD) into the player and voila everything worked. The encoded DTS-HD was now being sent to my receiver and reproducing amazing sound, and when I say amazing I mean every syllable. I presently have a 5.1 system setup but tomorrow I am going to configure for 7.1.

So, I will figure out how to control my systems using the proprietary (BD-SAT) buttons on the remote, but for right now, everything is working fine, thanks to Manuel from Sony support.

In conclusion I recommend this product not necessarily for its ease of use but for its ability to reproduce amazing sound at a reasonable price once you get it setup. The fifth star was deducted because of the poorly written manual and the first Sony [clueless] technician.』

(Great Product !)
『This is a great Product. Easy to install and easy to set. Auto calibration feature is great.
Screen display is no the best . but a lot of info on it.』

(Great Receiver)
『This is a great receiver i would recommend it to anyone especially for the price. The only thing the would make it even better is to have an on screen display. Other than that great sound and love not having to enter all info so the speakers are set up right. Just plug in the mic and it does it for you awesome!!!!』

(Great Receiver for the money)
『I purchased this Pioneer receiver after a lot of research of reviews for sub 1G receivers. Actually I was going to originally buy the 1019ah but decided that I did not need the additional HDMI input and saved about $100. I bought this unit for my new Home Theater system and it currently is powering two PSB-45 Tower speakers, matched with the PSB center and a Polk Audio PSW505 Sub and I am very pleased with the sound quality!
My friend who is quite the audiophile has a 20g plus NAD system in his Home Theater and I must say that although his sounds very good, I cannot hear such a huge difference in quality of sound. The sound is top notch, music fidelity and clarity is true and precise, and I can hear instruments and notes that I could not make out before in my music. Of course having good quality speakers is crucial too, and if you are going to invest in this receiver dont skimp on the speaker selection either.

If there are any Cons it would be the non back-lit remote, it does make it hard to read in my darkened theater room, and the cramped access to the speaker connectors on the back of the unit, but if you use banana plugs it should be a non issue.

Another review complained about fan noise in his 919ah, I have not had any issues with mine, and have not heard any fan noise from my receiver, so perhaps his has a bad fan motor that would not be difficult to replace since it looks like a standard 80mm comp fan? This receiver is priced right and has all the options most people would need for very good sound reproduction and home entertainment. I highly recommend!』

(Excellent anchor for your mid-range Home Theater)
『I bought the 919 to replace a 3-year old Pioneer 1016TX-V that served me very well, but was hamstrung in its HDMI handling capabilities. As my home theater was expanding, I needed more HDMI inputs and the ability to convert analog inputs to HDMI without the use of additional output cables to the TV.

While the 1019 would have been the logical choice for me (coming from the 1016), it provided more capability than what I required, since I will not require playing a digital source in a second zone nor do I believe in tasking a receiver with video scaling (that should be the domain of the TV or input source, such as a Blu-Ray player). As such, the 919 fit the bill. I did consider the Onkyo RC-160, but have never liked how hot Onkyo receivers seem to run, and was discouraged by some early professional reviews indicating sound quality that wasn't up to par.

Set-up wise, the 919 is a snap if you've dealt with other Pioneer receivers. I had previously done installations with both a 1019 and 819, and as such was versed in the setup of current Pioneer VSX lineup.

The Advanced MCACC does an admirable job of calibration, on par with Audyssey, but like Audyssey, still required some fine tweaking of the center&subwoofer levels, along with the crossover frequency. I will note that it correctly identified the size of all my speakers - something the MCACC on my 1016 did not do.

With a Sony S350 outputting bitstream to the 919, it correctly identified and ostensibly decoded the requisite HD formats, producing a sound quality that seemed to be a level above what my 1016 was capable of - even my wife remarked on the perceived difference! The difference was subtle, and could be attributed to the way each receiver was calibrated, but it was still noticeable.

The iPod/iPhone interface is something special, not only because an adapter cable itself is included, but that that adapter cable hooks into a non-proprietary, can-be-found-anywhere USB port. Kudos to Pioneer! If you ever lose the cable, I'm sure you'll be able to find a relatively cheap knock-off replacement here on Amazon.

A special note about the iPhone/iPod interface: on the 919 and 1019 it is graphically based, but on the 819, it is completely textual and rather displeasing to the eye. Something to take into account if that is important to you.

I was initially hesitant with the 919 due to its MUCH lighter weight and more compact package as compared to my old 1016, but I'm now suitabily impressed. Overall, the 919 is a great buy, especially since you can find it for $350 or less as of the writing of this review. The only improvement I would make is to add one more HDMI input.

(great vlaue)
『did everything I expected it to do, but the volume limiter is too low. Don't like that the maximum is way to low.』

(Vale la pena, buen equipo Pionner)
『La verdad me gusto el equipo tiene todo lo que se necesita y es facil de usar, la calidad de audio con unos buenos parlantes es buena』

(Great Receiver)
『I originally bought a Harman Kardon AVR-154 that was very difficult to use and had to have seperate audio inputs when hooking up HDMI devices. This receive has HDMI audio output (no seperate cable needed) and is easy to hook up and use - and it sounds great. The only thing I would change is the labels above the buttons and knobs, they either need to be backlit them or use a light colored font, I need a flashlight when using the knobs/buttons to see the labels.』

(Used for Home Theater)
『So far everything is okay. I have only used it for a half dozen movies so far. I got this to go with a Sony blu-ray player and because it had 7.1 sound. I am still figuring out how to adjust all the settings. The unit sounds good with my home theater setup.』

I was up and enjoying in 20 minutes.
Good clear sound and makes you think someone else is in room it keeps you looking over your shoulder.
Auto Calibration is a excellent plus.
The GUI is in black and white but is excellent
I just enjoyed TRANSFORMERS and it was FANTASTIC.
My Setup:

SONY STR-DN 1000 (HDMI)
SONY bdp x1 (HDMI)
FIOS BOX (HDMI)
B&W CENTER
BOSTON FLOOR STANDING FRONTS
BOSE 601 SURROUNDS
JBL 10" WOOFER

The black piano finish matched TV and BLU RAY player

Set it up correctly and you have a awesome receiver.
I hopes this helps buy from amazon.com and save.

(optical only for composite video)
『the optical audio is only assignable to composite video inputs, they can't be assigned to any hdmi ports, which sucks. The HDMI video quality is great though, blue is sharp.the best video quality i have seen to date. the piano black color is still cheap plastic, can't they design something with aluminum or something like apple?』

(I like this receiver a lot.)
『I have had this receiver since Aug. 1, 2009, and am very happy with it. It is missing some features like S-VHS inputs but none that I care about. I purchased it to use with HDMI devices in a 5.1 setup in one room. It works great for me and I highly recommend it.

PLUSES:

* Excellent audio.
* Good GUI that is easy to use, but you must read the manual first and consult it as you go (at least I had to).
* Good readable front and on-screen display with options for what is displayed while unit is operating (device, sound field, etc) and nameable inputs.
* Four HDMI inputs.
* Attractive design.
* Exceptional Auto Format Decoding that produces very good sound from 2-channel sources with clear centered dialogue and some LFE output. I use this setting exclusively for all devices and it unfailingly detects the proper format.
* Very easy and very accurate auto speaker setup using included microphone. It set my front speakers to large instead of small but other than that I didn't have to change any of the settings.

MINUSES

* Poor manual. Too small in size, not well-written. This seems like a common problem with electronics these days, but maybe it is just because devices are more complicated.
* You must purchase a separate device to use with iPod/iPhone.
* No S-VHS inputs (not at all important to me, but might be to some users).
* Somewhat confusing speaker input placement on back of receiver. (I would have put the front speaker inputs above the surround back inputs and next to the center channel input.)

I use the receiver with a Sony LCD TV, Samsung Blu-ray player, Cox Cable DVR, Tivo HD, Energy Classic speakers and Infinity subwoofer. No compatibility problems encountered. I use it is a smallish room (11 x 13) and hardly ever set the volume above 35, so it seems to have plenty of power.

Before I bought this receiver, I tried a Pioneer VSX-919, which is a good receiver that gets excellent reviews. However, I could never get it to sound right to me. The Sony sounded good to me from the get go. That doesn't mean one is better than the other, but for me the Sony was the better-sounding receiver. One feature I really liked on the Pioneer was iPod/iPhone support without having to buy add-on devices. Sony and other manufacturers should do that!

I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others who want a mid-range receiver with good sound, good features and nice appearance.』

(Great Product!)
『I love this receiver! It sounds great and looks great. My only complaint is hooking up the speakers is a little bit of a pain but that is all.』

(new doesnt mean good, way to complex to get a great sound)
『well, I blew $250 on this receiver as an open box deal. well, its going back tommorow. however, it was a great lesson. It was going to replace an older 5.1 pioneer, but as it turns out. this one has less watts per ch than the old one.Dont get me worng its a nice receiver, incredibly difficult to setup though in comparison.I mean horribly complex though I did own a $900 onkyo which was 11.1 which was even more difficult to setup than this). Even after setting the speaker settings via the online menu and having the calibrated mic and then bypassing it and doing it manually I was getting more out of the left than right ch. Also, what they dont tell you is this: no matter what, there is a built in crossover and its default at 100k and the lowest is 50khz you cant bypass it. so that means that if you have full range large speakers for the front left and right ,they get very little bass and it all gets routed to the sub. thats fine for sub and little cube deals but not for 6ft towers with 12"woofers and three drivers. So unless I was going direct bypassing all the surround stuff it soundeed quite lame compared to my old 5.1.And this is where I heard what it really sounds like and its crap. So after about an hour of different setups and trying things, I still never got as full a sound from my old receiver which was nothing really special, but maybe I took it for granted after trying this receiver.Basicly, this receiver can get the same quality of sound as my old one but it would take hours of setup and perfect alignment of the surround sound speakers and a hell of powerful sub. Perhaps I am old fashioned ,but to get a good sound should not be this hard.I mean you hook up pmy old one and immedieately you get a great sound and then you can tweak it. but with this thing, you start out with no sound until you setup the inputs via the on screen display 9provided yo have component plugged in and not hdmi). Then you have to set up the hdmi. but even then you get a crap sound and it really does take lots of tweaking to beging to get a basic decent sound. I am not tryng to scare anyone away but geez I just couldnt beleive what they are asking as far as setup goes. Now I did notice some really great things about this receiver: 1)if you have little tiny speakers and a sub then this would be a good match 2)it does have lots of power but that is mostly hidden by all the setup which limits the power it seems 3)hdmi causes more problems a than it solves and even with audio its a fad ,the analog outputs into my old recevier sound the same if not better 4)you can really tweak this thing for hours on end. Everything is hidden in menus, even the lowly oudness has nop button and it has to be gotten from a menu.lame.5) I was stunned by the surround sound possibilities and it really was like working with a dedicated surround processor with tons of modes!! if one could master the setup it could be great movies only.I found the surround overbearing for audio.

Anyway, overall, this is a prefect amp for someone who has a thx cinema setup in their home who does not mind tweaking for hours or someone who has tiny speakers and huge sub and doesnt listen to the front speakers for music.I feel sory for the average consumer who is not a dedicated audiophile who buys this unit as it is terribly complicated to hook up and to get it to sound good would be a feat to be proud of haha.Working with the unit trying to set it up felt like i was in a diagnostic mode only technicians normally have accesss too. kind of like the old tv's where you could never get a good picture becasue of all the diffferent settings and had to be accessed via the "diagnostic" mode.

So it goees back tommorow and instead I am getting 2 more of these old receviers I have as they sound great with little thought and sounded better than this unit no joke and the old ones have more watts, no hdmi at all, no onscreen menus and has buttons for almost all functions and are about 1/4th the price and still do 5.1 but without a bunch of bells and wistles and no need to setup the amount of delay between speakers and stuff yuk!!!. Also, I dont give a rats butt about the ipod and usb and most of the other features if the sound quality just isnt there or in this case its there but how do you find it.

I just wonder if people wont returns receivers like this becasue of the complexity/hassle of the setup opting for simpler receivers of old? Anyway I will sleep well now knowing that my recevier search is at an end.stear clear if you just want to hook it up and have it sound amazing and even after an evening of tweaking I approached the sound i was getting with the old one but it was timid in comparison becasue of the bass crossover』

(Great receiver for the price..)
『This is one of those products which is cheap but now skimpy on features.
Its got most of the bells and whistles of high end product, like TrueHD, DTSHD and other sound formats. It onscreen display and most of all yes it will process the audio through your HDMI. Yes PS3 owners this is a great receiver which will process 7.1 channel through HDMI, just remember to set the PS3 to Bitsream audio format.

Now its all not perfect receiver.

Couple of inconveniences: it upconvert analog signals to 480p thru component output only, so your setup and ipod control all of its only possible if you connect the component output to your TV. I do not find this as a big deal. The documentation is not great.

Remote control is very versatile and you can set any brand tv, suprisingly my syntax oleiva TV had the code entry.

Overall its a great investment for the multitude of features it possesses...』

(Really good receiver for the price)
『I've had this receiver for more than 4 months and I am very pleased with the performance. I havent hooked it up to all my surround speakers, just using the front 3 speakers and subwoofer and its still good.
The setup is pretty simple, i have it hooked up to my DVD player using HDMI as well as my set top box and CD player.
The only problem is that I havent been able to connect my ipod Mini. It doesnt seem to support this particular version of ipod. I guess I have to upgrade my ipod.

(Terrible iPod Onscreen Menu / HDMI Repeater Problem)
『I purchased this product after comparing reviews of it and similar products. This is my third Pioneer A/V Receiver over several years. I am generally pleased with the product but there are a couple of things that could be improved. First, my Time Warner Cable box (Scientific Atlanta 8240HDC) does not play well with this receiver's HDMI "repeater". When going through the Pioneer, even though I program the cable box to output 1080i ONLY, it reverts back to the 480/720/1080 default output resolution mode every time I cycle power. This results in output to my HDTV being 480 or 720 lines depending on the source programming resolution. If I DON'T go through the Pioneer (i.e., I go directly to the HDTV), the cable box output resolution remains locked at 1080i (480/720 source is upconverted) as I had programmed it to, even after cycling power. Obviously, something in the Pioneer confuses the cable box. Of course, the underlying problem is with the cable box software but it's a major task to communicate this to Time Warner Cable via their customer service staff. Second, the receiver's onscreen iPod menu (OSD) is the worst I have ever seen, and I have been using PC's since the Commodore-Vic days. Onscreen resolution is unbelievably low and response is terrible. Connection to the HDTV is via composite video cable. Big disappointment. The iPod's own display and controls are disabled while the OSD is active. You can toggle between receiver OSD control and iPod control by pressing an obscure button on the remote.』

(Disappointed in Pioneer VSX-819H)
『After spending a couple of hours setting up my new system, I am disappointed and frustrated. After getting everything connected, with HDMI in from my Samsung Blu-Ray DVD and Pace Cable Box, and HDMI out from the Pioneer receiver to my Toshiba Regza LCD TV, I found that the DVD worked fine (validating connection from receiver to TV), but no signal from the cable. Checked all connections, swapped out HDMI cables, turned everything off and back on . . . but no luck. Bypassed the receiver, connecting the cable box directly to the TV, and it worked fine. Switched back to HDMI through the receiver, but again no signal. Unplugged the cable box to reset it, and when it came back up, everything seemed to be working . . . until I switched channels to an HD channel. Then the signal starting cutting out and I again completely lost the video signal. Seems the receiver isn't able to pass on the HD output (a significant issue in a home theater system!)

Anyone have a suggestion, before I return the receiver?

(Sony STR-DH500)
『All that I expected in a good receiver. It powers my 15 year old DCM 12 inch 3 ways and Infinity 12 inch powered sub woofer just fine. I don't use the sub out as the sub is wired in parallel with the DCM's. The Infinity has a low pass built in adjustable filter. I do not use the HDMI inputs at this time, however I'll be ready in the future. Nice unit,』

(Good Quality, Great Price)
『This 5.1 reciver is a great amp and was just what I was looking for. Sound quality is very good and it replaced a 20 year unit that had stoped working. The only thing I did not like was the way the wires for the main speakers are attatched, I wish the unit had RCA output for all speakers. Other than that it was a easy install and would buy this unit again.』

(Not everything works)
『I bought this item and received it very quickly from amazon. When i first hooked it up i found that it would not pass through the HDMI input from my Phillips dvd player or pass through RCA video. I talked to Sony customer support for two hours and they said it was defective. So, amazon sent me another which arrived quickly. This one will pass the RCA video through but still will not pass HDMI through for my DVD player. I'm sure Sony is trying to make you have to buy a Sony DVD player.
Good Stuff
- Cheap
- Everything else works fine

Bad Stuff
- HDMI will not work
- Sound quality is not so good
- Connections on back are not well organized』

(Excellent service and product!)
『Very happy! The first shipment was defective and I returned for the same item. The exchange was quick, friendly and I am very satisfied with the product and servive. Thank you Amazon.』

(Good Option)
『This is a good basic version of A/V receiver. I am mainly using it to connect my In-Sealing BOSE speakers.
PROS: Good Sound Quality for that price
CONS: all DMPORT accessories are expensive (in retrospect may be a YAMAHA receiver would have been better for me), can't connect my laptop/mp3 player/iPhone without the expensive SONY accesories
COMMENTS: First analyze what all equipments you need to connect to your receiver before you buy it』

『The STR-DH500 5.1-channel A/V receiver delivers an HD experience. This new 1080p A/V receiver features HDMI pass-through and 1080/24p capability thus making it compatible with the latest HD sources (i.e. Blu-ray Disc Players, and the PlayStation 3). The STR-DH500 HD connectivity doesn't stop there. It features 5 HD inputs thus providing ample connection options at an inexpensive price. Finally, the STR-DH500 has a digital media port input which expands the flexibility to playback music from various audio sources (i.e. iPod, Walkman digital player, Bluetooth device or PC) with one of the various accessories (sold separately).』

(Rediscover great sounding music)
『I just picked up much of the original Beatles collection on vinyl at an estate sale and dug out my turntable, with Audio Technica AT91E cartridge. My Sony integrated amp/receiver did not have a phono input. Reading the reviews here on Amazon, I decided to order this preamp. The first listen to Sgt. Pepper was glorious! I have fallen in love with music again. Records have dynamics. CDs are highly compressed. This preamp sounds awesome.

I also tested a 1980's Kenwood receiver that had a phono input. I connected the Pyle phono preamp to the line input and did an A/B test between the Kenwood's phono section and the Pyle. The Pyle won. It had better frequency response, wider image and was more organic sounding. The output of the Pyle matched the line level input of the Kenwood but sounded a little low on my nicer Sony amp. So, the complaints below of low output level may be dependent on the amp used. There was no noticeable hum or noise. The included "wall wart" 12VDC supply is not regulated. Unloaded, in measures over 15 volts. I may build a nicer supply for it but, I digress...

The only negative I can give it is that the RCA jacks were slightly tarnished. The unit I received may have sat on a shelf for a long time. Still, it worked flawlessly. A ground wire attachment point would have been nice but I easily connected the turntable ground wire to the ground on my receiver.

If you want to rediscover the great sound of records, the Pyle Phono Preamp will get you there. I recommend it.』

(Works fine)
『This pre-amp device installed easily, without a ground wire, and worked perfectly. The specs didn't tout an RIAA Equalization capability but I figured it must have one or else it couldn't be a phono pre-amp. Apparently it does as the sound on the DVD is just like the LP, except better as I used Magix Audio Cleaning Lab to clean up the LP noise. Buy one in confidence. (You can get a 15-day free trial of Magix Audio Cleaning Lab software that is extendible for another 30 days.)』

(Re-living LP's!)
『I was very skeptical that this was going to work. I dug up my old turntable and wanted to play some old albums through my new home theater system. When the sound was barely audible even when the volume was turned all the way up, I looked onto the internet for some help. I came across this product and decided for 20 bucks, I'd give it a shot. At first I was disappointed because I couldn't get the "buzzing" to go away. But a little more help from the internet and I found out that I needed the old "ground" wire plugged in the turntable. And "Voila!" - instant gratification. It is great to listen to the old albums I grew up on.』

(Adequate)
『For the price it's ok. Even when grounded to unit, there's light rumble generated via the amp. Software didn't remedy it completely. You get a serviceable unit at a cheap price and that's it.』

(Works Great !)
『The sound is great, even turned up all the way and there is plenty of volume. It plugs in easily with in and out RCA jacks and I put turntable ground wire conveniently on one of the PP-999 case screws to eliminate that buzzing noise. I'm using a boom box as my amp with the aux input jack. You can play your old vinyl or transfer them to a PC and Ipod. I never thought that at this price I'd get such a great product but it's true the PP-999 Pyle Pro is everything you need to bring that old vinyl back to life.』

(The Perfect home A/V product for a mid-range price)
『I decided to replace my Denon with this Onkyo. The Denon cost me more than twice as much; I thought I would be disappointed with the Onkyo, but I've had Onkyo receivers in the past, so I thought I'd take the risk and buy this one. I am not disappointed. I can say the sound is clearer, chrisper, and the setup is much easier than with the Denon (which has been consigned to my bedroom). The design is simple, but elegant. I especially like the six HDMI 1.3 inputs (one output). I was able to disconnect a Psyclone HDMI switcher I have been using for two years.
I also like that the remote can be easily programmed to control my Blu-Ray player and my set-top box from AT&T U-Verse.
The video quaility is excellent. Both my wife and I noticed a marked difference in the vibrancy of colors and definition. It also has LFE outputs for two subwoofers. And it can easily be programmed for a Zone 2 (watch 5.1 surround movie in the living room and listen to the radio in the bedroom at the same time), or view the movie with 7.1 surround sound.
I couldn't be more pleased with this product, and I couldn't believe the low-end price!』

(Very Happy with This Reciever)
『I have been using this reciever for about 6 mo now and love it. Very easy to setup with the on screen menu. The video upscaling works great and the 7.2 sound is incredible. Would highly recommend』

(Great value and bang for your buck!)
『My Denon AVR 1086 was about 6 years old, at a cost of about $650. The Denon was giving me some issues and the lack of HDMI connectivity made it necessary to upgrade my AVR, especially since I wanted to jump into the Blu-Ray mode. I got this receiver a couple weeks ago and it was remarkably easy to setup; I recall my Denon was not so easy. I consider this to be an extraordinary value based on the cost of this unit, through Amazon, to be in the low $400 range. I have a nice set of Boston home theater speakers, including a Boston powered sub-woofer, and this Onkyo delivers nice and clean sound quality to my speakers.

I am a proud middle aged bachelor so I have miles of heavy speaker wire running and draped everywhere. This is probably a direct protest to nagging and neat freak chicks. My heart goes out to you guys that have to ask your GFs/Brides if it's Ok for you to have a surround system and then they -ONLY- grant permission -IF- it's clean, tidy and virtually unnoticeable. I had to toss this part in since it can be such a PITA to get a surround system put system together in the first place; I can't imagine making all the speakers, wires and cables just disappear when all is said and done.

I have not done the auto speaker eq/setup and may not bother since it sounds good right out of the box. The HDMI in and out setup was a snap. I got a Sony Blu-Ray at the same time so now I am cooking with gas. My new Blu-Ray and old DVD movies look and sound amazing. I strongly recommend a solid universal remote control to alleviate MRM (multi-remote-madness). Good luck and high scoring!』

(Just what the doctor ordered.)
『Easy setup, sounds great, and I've got expandability to 7.2 channels when I'm ready. The video processing has been a pleasant surprise. Either my eyes are easy to please or the complaints about the upconverting of analog sources was incorrect. Also, the Audyssey room calibration stuff is slick! Pull the mic to the sweet spots, hit Enter, and walk away. Either this new receiver sounds 100x better than my old Sony, or the calibration I've been doing with my sound meter has been way off. Anyway I'm very, very pleased with this receiver.』

(nice receiver, good value)
『I did a bit of research before buying the Onkyo Tx-SR607 7.2-Channel A/V Surround Home Theatre Receiver. This was a replacement of my Denon 7.1 receiver that had been in my HT room for 6 or 7 years. The lack of HDMI ports forced me to look for a new receiver. I had almost bought an Onkyo instead of the Denon back then. The Denon turned out to be just OK (relative to this new receiver)with hard to understand userguide and poor setup procedures.

The Onkyo is the opposite, quick connection and setup. I was really happy with the Audyssey 2EQ which does an auto evaluation of your speakers and environment setting the audio to the best settings. Simply put the provided microphone at ear level where you sit and launch the setup. I had in the past used my handy dandy Radio Shack sound meter to manually set the volume on the 7.1 speakers.

The resulting sound is noticably more defined. This receiver brought new life to my sound system and HT room. Even my wife noticed who is not one to pay attention to sound quality....

As I had read the Onkyo runs a little hotter than my Denon but that seems to be normal.

All and all I am happy with the price and performance and would buy again.
