『I purchased this equalizer to give my audio system (Yamaha receiver with JBL speakers) that sound feeling I used to have in older systems. The very first thing I did after taking this unit out of the box was to move the slides, they feel weak, and the plastic cover of each slide can easily fall off. I hooked it up and turned it on and it did not get any better. The display is way too loaded and bright, and not blue as pictured, there is a "scan" button that is just to have slides led lights "scanning"... you got to be kidding!. It has other two buttons "High VFD" and "Low VFD" which I haven't figured out what they are for. The unit looks good as long as it's kept turned off and you do not look at it so close, LOL!. Regarding performance, it just does what any other equalizer does, I haven't used it much yet but I noticed some sound distortion in certain songs, the decibels controls are imprecise: no effective and suddenly too sensitive.
The unit produces heat, quite more than what I would expect from a passive EQ.
If I have to use one single word to qualify this unit, it might be "cheap". My 9 years old son enjoyed this "Designed in USA, engineered in Japan, made in China" thing, he said it was so cool while playing with the slides lights and the scan button. This is a toy for kids, not for serious audio enthusiasts. I call this EQ "the shame" of my home audio setup.
Add some bucks and look for something better built and from a recognized manufacturer.

『I was thrilled to get the package in the mail ... But not so thrilled when I discovered it's not exactly what's advertised.

The ACTUAL equalizer has a silver "brushed" plate facia. Not BLACK, which is what I wanted.

And the color of the lighting is not purple .. but blue. I thought the purple was much more novel than the blue .. but .. oh well!

At just 30 bucks .. I'm not going to go through all the trouble to return it, .. blah, blah .... I'm going to stick with it for now .. Even though it's not going to match the rest of the dash equipment color.

I don't exactly recommend "flashy" colors with would-be thieves who will notice it more (than black).

I'm sure once I get it all connected .. I'm sure I'll be happy with the performance .. But had I known this model has a silver face .. I wouldn't have purchased it.』

『Great little EQ. My R channel just burned out though after about a year. Cheap enough that I didn't mind forking out the cash for a second one. Perfect for EQing my 78's.』

(Works well, but be warned)
『The improvement in sound this unit produces is dramatic, and the price is right. HOWEVER, this particular unit is designed more for DJ layouts and audio studios than home audio. It is not shielded. If this unit is located away from your amps or other components it is great. However, if located close to them (as in a cabinet or vertical stack of a home theater layout) it will inject what sounds like an ungrounded hum int the audio. It's not caused by poor ground, it's a byproduct of having an ungrounded system physically located close to other powered components. Units designed for home audio use are better shielded, of course their performance is not quite on a par wit this unit.

I experienced this phenomena with two separate units, and in both cases the solution was to physically move the unit away from the other components. However, that had it sitting by itself way from the rest of the system and looked ugly. Replaced it with a unit designed for home audio. Not as stellar a performer as this unit, but I could put it right in with the other components and no feedback.』

『I realize this is listed as a musical instrument, But I grew frustrated with the limited selection of EQs for home stereo. I found this one, and bought it as it had RCA jacks. I like the two ranges of Equalization, and the level boost/cut for each channel. The 15 bands give you very good control of the sound. It works great and is only 1 u, it does not take much space at all. At this price it is a bargain.』

The new version, the EQ50, is a poor substitute. It relies too much on the strength of the source signal, and does not do a very good job. It works OK on some equipment, but still not as good as the earlier version. Plus, the EQ30 was more compact and easier to clip onto a short pocket. Because in the real world, the Koss EQ50 could be used by someone with 60% hearing loss and love it. But, in sound evaluation, there's more Hiss here than what you can find between some AM stations. This little beauty isn't worth your time or money.』 (It may please you depending on your expectations...) 『Just got this device today. I purchased it because my ZUNE does not have eq functions. I used to work in recording studios so my ears are trained... I am not only familiar with what all different types of distortions sound like, but I also have a pretty good frequency spectrum recognition (trained by hours of playing with warble sine wave test tones and various parametric equalizers.) This is what I have to say about this unit...: First of, the specification of this unit is 30hz - 20khz, but there is no tolerance indicated (+-db, THD, etc) so this number is pretty much garbage... The center frequencies of the graphic EQ are 125hz for bass, 1Khz for mid, and 10Khz for treble, with all bands adjustable +- 10 db. There is no information on the Q and bandwidth of the curves applied. The bass and treble bands are likely shelved, but I have yet to play any sine wave test tones through this unit so I cannot verify this. This unit emits a hiss noticeable at approximately 10khz - 16Khz, which is why I suspect the treble EQ is shelved... This is not all bad or unacceptable for a unit this cheap... However, I am not all that pleased with the choice of center frequency of the bass EQ. Most pop music sound much punchier with a boost of bass EQ centered around 50hz or so. I am not all that concerned with frequency below 40hz or so since all earphones by design cannot do an adequate job with bone conduction hearing anyway... Bass EQ centered at 150hz is way too high and makes modern pop recording sound bloated without the more satisfying lower notes. It makes a recording sound like those cheap boom boxes... I suspect KOSS chose this bass band center frequency to cater this device to ALL cheap headphones on the market, as increase of the lower tones will greatly distort headphones that cannot handle that kind of boost. So if your expectation is very low, and your device does not provide any EQ at all (like the new ZUNE), then this unit will likely satisfy you. However, I do not think this device is of any use for devices that already have build in EQ functions. There are only 3 very coarse bands, the bass band center frequency is way off for any descent music listening, and there is small amount of noise (which is the least of the problems)...』 (Very Poor Design) 『I purchased this product to use in conjunction with my iPod as I have always felt the iTunes EQ lacks control. The Koss unit had a good range of boost and cut in the three provided bands, however it would have been nice if the bass band were centered at a lower frequency. As it is, the bass adjustment made the sound very "boomy" and did not enhance the low bass. This is a minor complaint when compared to the amount of "noise" this unit generates. The hiss on the output is tremendous, it over powers any advantage the EQ section provides. I was very disappointing as Koss in an excellent name in headphones and has been for years.
