>price: Garmin Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (garmin 780 nuvi) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『it's great, had one of the first gps devices from 5 years ago this one is far superior, love it , ez to use, works great』 (It works fine) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This is our 1st GPS, we never thought we needed one to get around. well, it came in just a few days, I charged it up before any use, then used it without the cord, the battery life was about 2.5 hours, the blue tooth worked fine and was easy to set up and use.Its big and easy to see and read, We used the vacum thing to stick it to the windsheild, we may want to buy one of dash mounts soon, we are very happy with the speed at witch it loads up, finds the sat, and refreshes, , The refresh rate surprised me and pleased me, over all, we are very happy with this GARMIN NUVI 780. The only down side, (if its a down side,) is the price, we did not want to spend that amount of money for a GPS. but feel we are getting our monies worth.』 (Mikie Loves it!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I have used this product all up and down the west coast from Mex. to Can. and it hasn't missed a beat. Mike』 (Try this on a motorcycle!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I love the Nuvi in my car, and as a discontinued item, the 780 is relatively cheap due in part to the MSN interface which is being discontinued. Being on a motorcycle (with a separate RAM mount and a hardwired power supply for another $50 or so) I don't get the traffic updates or MSN service, but who cares? Screen is bright enough to see in daylight (barely, in direct sun), audio at 100% is loud enough to hear thru my helmet at city speeds. Bluetooth is a disappointment in that it doesnt sync with my Chatterbox XBI, but...whatever. Touch screen is easily manipulated with gloves on. Perfect for facilitating touring and finding the nearest gas station. $200 for the 780 compared to $650 for a Zumo 660 is a HUGE bargain. If it rains, put it away or put a ziplock baggie on it. You have to replace it three times to make up the difference』 (Ok, but disappointed overall) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Purchased the Garmin Nuvi 780 expecting to blown away, but I suppose my expectations were too high... I upgraded from a Magellan 2000 (real old). Though this one looks nicer, is faster, and has some more/nicer features, and is more reliable, I miss how the other worked. I have only had for a couple weeks. Navigation - On two occasions I searched for a point of interest I knew was there, but it could not be found. On two other occasions, it found the point of interest, but could not find it via navigation. (Fortunately I knew how to get there both times). I miss having the street I am on at the top, and where I am going next on the bottom (or visa versa). This one cycles through the two on the top, which can be confusing. Also, when navigating, if you use the 3d mode, there is no way to tell which direction you are traveling (N-E-S-W). There should be a compass at minimum, or at least a key telling which way is north. Where is my split screen showing which way to turn, and that "next-turn-after-the-first" preview? Ease of use - This is where I am most frustrated. Detours require a sub-menu, rather than "popping" on the screen when it sees you stop on a road that you should be moving on. Also, when searching for locations or addresses, you have to enter the state by spelling it. So I type "N-J" and then "done" and it says "no results", so I have to click "back" and then "N-e-w" then "done" and then select "New Jersey". I should be able to do either, and it should "auto" select after touching a few keys. Why do I have to click "done". The older magellan did this. Also, why can't I just enter a zip code first and have it auto-select the state and city? Where did that feature go? It's not a big deal if you are stopped and entering stuff, but doing stuff on the road is a pain and tedious. Map - Also disappointed here. Where did all my map detail go? There is a "detail" setting, but you put it on the most detailed setting and there are still almost no street or road names. I want to know what all the roads I'm passing are, and what road that is running parallel to me! Overall - Before I go on a rant of what I don't like, it does look nice, has a lot of customized settings, voices don't sound bad, blue tooth works well, battery seems fine (so far), screen is plenty large, it sticks to my window real well, and it seems to find "most" of the places I throw at it. However, I can't help buy feel they upgraded the looks, slimmed the form-factor, upgraded the hardware, "refined" the UI, and then slapped together the way everything works. It just doesn't seem real well thought out. I'm not returning it, but I am giving to my wife. I will try a different one for myself. 』 『Amazon.com Product Description -- January 8, 2008 The nüvi 780 adds enhanced MSN direct content to themulti-destination routing and "Where Am I?" features and gorgeous widescreen display of other nüvi 700s to create a superior navigation device for business as well as casual drivers. As with all nüvis, you get Garmin reliability, the fast satellitelock of an integrated high-sensitivity receiver, a slim, pocket-sized design with a gorgeous display, an easy, intuitive interface, and detailed NAVTEQ maps for the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico with more than 6 million name-searchable points of interest. All of the 700-series navigators also feature a rich array of features including spoken directions in real street names, integrated traffic receivers, MP3 player and photo viewer, and an FM transmitter that will play voice prompts, MP3s, audio books, and more, directly through your vehicle's stereo system. Which nüvi is Best for You?: Click here to see a quick, simple comparison of features for all Garmin nuvi GPS navigators
An integrated receiver allows you to access enhanced dynamic content from the MSN Direct service. Check the weather, avoid traffic backups, compare local gas prices, get enhanced movie listings, stock information, news and local events when you travel with your unit. Even plan trips from the convenience of your computer, via Windows Live Local, and wirelessly send custom to your nüvi. Check out a full description of MSN Direct content features, or a coverage map for MSN Direct services. A 3-month subscription to MSN Direct is included with the device. After that, subscription fees are $49.95 per year, or $129.95 for a lifetime subscription. Multi-Destination Routing
This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about). Where Am I? Where's My Car? At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, the nüvis in the 700 series automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount. See Better, See MoreThe super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push. The nüvi 780 is preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. Important note about map updates:Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store. Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. The nüvi 780's Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker lets match it to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log. Garmin Lock Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location Easy To Use Interface

>price: Garmin Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Sorry I Put It Off For Years!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I like gadgets, but I don't jump early for new technology - I wait till the technology matures and prices come down. I never saw the need to spend $100's to do what a $10 atlas could do. Then I took a trip with a friend who had a Nuvi 205. I immediately had to have a gps! I love this thing and should have gotten one years ago! I don't have to fish for my reading glasses, dig out the atlas, and find the map is not detailed enough to see what I wanted. Navigation is so much easier now! I went with Garmin because of market share, features, and price. The widescreen is definitely the way to go, as is the calling out of street names for the next turn. The points of interest is great - I can look up restaurants, gas stations, etc in unfamilier places. I can take that backroad to do some recon and know how to get back to civilization. I tried a vent mount which positioned the Nuvi below the top of the dash. It worked for a week or so, then started losing the sat signal. It is now mounted on the dash with the provided stick on plastic piece and hasn't lost the signal since. I have a Ram Mount for both motorcycles which work great, and will be installing direct wire power supplies in my vehicles. GPS has fully matured, and anyone who leaves the 5 mile radius where they grew up should have one!』 (Great GPS Unit with Bluetooth) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I am very satisfied with the Garmin nuvi 265WT. The Bluetooth phone function works flawlessly with my cell phone and reproduces my phone's full contact list on the screen which makes for easy calls. Once the phone number is selected, the call is completely hands free and the speaker and microphone work very well. GPS Directions to destinations are accurate and the screen shows your speed and the road's posted speed limit, estimated time of arrival, and all street names as you approach them. The selection of American English voices is limited, I wish there were more. I've selected a female voice, but it is somewhat nasal. This is a great unit and a good value for the price (I paid $179). I took advantage of the one time free download of updated software and an updated map. The process was somewhat complex and took several steps of over an hour each (I have Roadrunner high speed access). The files are very large (over 2 gigabytes) and are not automatically deleted after the map updating process is complete. I had to find them on my hard drive and delete the map data files and update program manually to recapture the hard drive space. Garmin should add this step to the final cleanup after the updating process. Other than the disk space issue, this product fully lives up to its advertising. I highly recommend the Garmin nuvi 265T.』 (Great GPS, Compatible with my Nokia 2705 Shade) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This GPS is great. It paired with my Nokia 2705 Shade even though it was not one of the listed compatible phones. Gives me handsfree operation in my car, with onscreen menus for my phonebook, "Call Home" button, voice dialing and more. Couldn't ask for more from a great GPS unit.』 (Expected better) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This device was definitely a good value for the price. It does alright on some directions. But when searching for nearby stores or restaurants-- I find the software outdated. I tried to go to the Garmin site for my one free software update. It took 24 hours to download-- and I don't have a slow computer. And after all that time-- the information in this device is still over 8 years old. I can't find the Target or Kohl's down the street. The shopping center has been there for over 5 years. When out of town, I looked for a restaurant that moved within the past 2 years-- it took us to the old location. So I am not thrilled with the maps in my device. Any suggestions?』 (Highly Recomend) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I purchased this GPS unit as a replacement for an old out-dated unit. The unit was an excellent choice that far exceeds my exceptions. >price: Garmin Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Awful experience so far...) ![]() ![]() 『In the past several years, I've had a built-in nav, a TomTom, a Garmin 660, and now a Garmin 765t for a couple of days. Having had so many, I felt I knew what I was looking for in upgrading from the 660 to the 765t. Things I've observed that are awful: 1) ADVERTISING. Ads pop up when you use the traffic feature. This is lousy, and makes me feel annoyed and cheated, but what's worse is that one popped up when I arrived home when I wasn't using the traffic feature. An ad for Hyatt...really?? Get off my screen. 2) CALIBRATION. Just the worst! I found out how to recalibrate the screen and have done it three times and it just gets worse every time. When I try to type in a new state, it brings up the new country option from below no matter how high up I tap. When I try to type in the name of a street, it chooses the letter next to it and if I try to compensate, it still won't choose the right letter. Unusable! 3) DEAD PIXEL. Out of the box, it had a dead (always red) pixel. Nice. 4) POINTS OF INTEREST. My Nuvi 660 always found the points of interest I was looking for reasonably quickly. The 765t does not. Either it doesn't find them in its results at all (where the 660 had), or I get the hourglass spinning until I give up. 5) REDRAW. I bought this unit above the voice activated unit for a few reasons and one was that reviewers had said that it had quicker redraw, which I knew I'd find valuable when I decided to override its directions and make it recalculate. Unfortunately, the redraw even when doing things like changing the basic settings is not smooth and quick, as I'd expected. I haven't had much time to use the unit for travel, so I can't comment on the wonderful features like lane assist and 3-D buildings that I bought it for. I can just say that this was not at all what I was expecting given the decent experience I'd had with my 660. The 660 lacks some basic features that I want - like telling me things in time or showing me which way I will be turning before I actually need to make the turn - so I really felt like this was a good buy, but it's going back.』 (765t locked up 1st time when updating map) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Would not power on after 1st time linked to computer had to send in for repair, returned with in a week and works fine , however thier known software problem and still selling unit distrubed me.』 (Top notch) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Hocked off my old Nüvi 250, picked up this 765T. Primary reason was for bluetooth phone integration. Traffic notification&lane assist end up being much more valuable than bluetooth, although the 765T's bluetooth functionality works great with my Moto Razr V3M. The 765T definitely gets satellite lock much quicker than the 250 did. It still has a little trouble locking on in downtown Detroit, amidst the skyscapers. But it does lock on before I get out of downtown, whereas the 250 had to reach Michigan&Third before it knew where it was. Love the "send to gps" integration with Google Maps--very useful feature. One bummer of upgrading GPS units is that I lost all of my favorites in my 250. Maybe Garmin will one day stop worrying about unlock codes&user-hostile stuff like that, and worry more about giving me an easy upgrade path.』 (A great navigation tool) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『We have used our 765T for over a month and find it helpful and entertaining. Even though I don't agree with a few of it's route selections, I find it amazing that it knows so much. On many occasions it has saved us much time. On familiar routes you could experiment with it's selections to get a feeling for how it thinks. Understand that with the information it has built in and the traffic info it receives you may have to make a practical decision which route to follow. This becomes apparent on a freeway when it receives a message that there is heavy freeway traffic so it suggests you get off the freeway and take a frontage road parallel to the freeway. The frontage road may have multiple signals and it's own heavy traffic but the GPS doesn't know it. This is not a good decision but you can see why the GPS suggests it . You are better off staying on the freeway, even if you are moving slowly. Also there can be some recent street changes. You have to evaluate for yourself and you may have to override a selection. On one trip across San Francisco heading west on the Bay Bridge to a house in the Sunset District this unit directed us on a brilliant selection of streets I would have never chosen and in a very quick amount of time. I know San Francisco fairly well and I am amazed. In many other locations we are not familiar with it has also worked great.』 (Steer clear of the Garmin 765T) ![]() 『This GPS inexplicably prefers routes off of Interstates. The direction-to-turn arrow cannot be trusted since it is, at times, at odds with the voice instructions. This GPS is beautifully constructed and the display is brilliant. I had no trouble with hearing it at all and the Bluetooth worked fine. I like how the power/radio cord snaps into the bracket and not onto the unit proper. Unfortunately, I find that the 765T computes routing that is so inferior and arbitrary that I can't recommend it. I have set the routing options in every conceivable way to improve the routing, but it doesn't seem to care. Garmin support told me to set "via" points along the route (even if it is a straight shot on the interstate) to prevent this problem. They reported to me they were able to duplicate the specific example I gave them. Kudos to them for admitting that. I don't know if it will be fixed in a future software update or even if it can be fixed at all. Perhaps the routing is better in some parts of the country than others, which may explain why there are so many happy users. Still, that's no excuse. Folks who rely on a GPS should expect reliable routing in any part of the country. I am returning this beautiful but crazy GPS to Amazon and keeping the Magellan 4700 which I now know has superior routing.』 『Have you lost your sense of direction? That part doesnt bother me as much as after i decide to just drive around, i can't see the map unless i literally hit the back button 17 times. it's pretty, sleek, ads are inobtrusive, traffic is generally accurate, but for those people complaining about it not being 100% accurate all the time, you are wasting your energy because no traffic report is going to be 100% accurate all the time. use common sense with this one. if it's rush hour, there will be traffic. if there is a traffic jam in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, the liklihood of updating immediately is not very high. so friggin what! the traffic map is generally accurate and the arrival time with traffic is also pretty accurate, and if it's not it adjusts. ads are unobtrusive, and overall it's a good device - i got it on discount, so for what i paid it's fine, but i wouldn't be happy if i paid full price for it. i have always used garmins (running gps, etc.) so i'm partial to garmin, which is why i went with this, and even though i would get this again, i'm not hugely impressed with this device. it works, i generally like it.』 (Garimin GPS) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『We lost our old GPS, so we decided to buy this one. (I don't usually write reviews, unless there is a serious problem with a device that warrants spending time to write a review on) The good: The good news is that it works, I don't have a problem with the device freezing or error messages. Text to speech is very good on this garmin (has a more natural sounding voice) compared to a 2x5 series (which sounds more robotic). Plays MP3 and audible. The bad: The Garmin 755T that I got had a LCD with a very poor viewing angle. Tilt is up a bit, and the screen gets really dark. Tilt it down a bit, and the screen becomes white and washed out. I've used a Garmin 265W and a Roadmate 1430, both were budget/mainstream models and had an LCD display with decent viewing angles. But on my Garmin 755T, as long as GPS display isn't directly facing you, the display is washed out. A GPS without a decent display is completely impractical to use, and hence the reason for getting 1 stars. This GPS is going back. (If it had decent viewing angles, than i would've given it 4 stars) Other thoughts: I read good reviews for the 755T before I decided to buy it. So I'm not quite sure why the LCD display quality is so poor. Maybe the reviews were based on when the 755T just came out. Now that the 755T cost about half as much as it did a year ago, maybe Garmin decided to cut corners on the latest batch of 755T. The quality of the LCD is horrible, and not just the viewing angle, you can actually see the uneven backlighting pattern, especially when you set it to about 30% brightness.』 (Love it!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『We've used our Garmin for 2 long trips and will never go back to printing out all those maps before we leave. Sara (we named our Garmin) has a few quirks, like telling us to make u-turns when we don't need to, but if you use common sense, you soon get used to it and just ignore it. Her pronunciation is really good and comforting when we are needing to turn, as she gives us plenty of warning. The lane assist is a great feature and the lifetime traffic is helpful sometimes. None of the stores in our area carry this model, so it was nice that Amazon had it. I would recommend looking on the web for user sites, where you can get a lot of tips for doing things with it that are not in the user manual (have to go online to print manual). Although we travel with a laptop, cameras, etc, if we have to leave the car, we always take "Sara". We feel we could lose the other stuff, but don't want to lose Sara! Sometimes she chooses a weird route, but we've learned some tricks to change it to the way we want to go. The MP3 player is junk as it will only play one track and then you have to go into a set of menus to pull up the next one. We had tried to put in an audio book. With the new Lane Guidance feature built into the nüvi 7x5 series, you'll never question which lane you should be driving in again. It provides you with a view of what lane you should be in for upcoming turns. And with the 3D Lane Assist Junction View, you'll be able to see a photo-realistic screen that shows you both the road detail as well as thesigns as you will see them on the road. The signs that aren't needed for navigation are faded compared to the appropriate lane signage. Integrated Traffic Receiver All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nüvi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time. BTW, I will be paying for shipping the product for repair. Do yourself a favor, buy something else.』 (Read the reviews, do your homework...) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『The Nuvi 855 is my first GPS unit. I did alot of homework and read reviews on MANY Garmin and Tom Tom units before I selected this model. After receiving my unit, I sat INSIDE my house at the kitchen table, opened the box and immediately put the GPS to work. The enclosed battery comes with a full charge, and within 20 seconds of boot up, I had four green bars in the display, showing me a more than adequate satellite acquisition. I then proceeded yo go through the necessary initial programming, which took no time at all. Today was the first road test while I used it around town. The unit, although not much larger than my iPhone, has a large, colorful LCD screen, which occassionally got washed out by the morning sun. I found the voice prompts loud enough to be heard, but used the FM radio feature to hear them on the radio. The choices for the voice are limited and sound mechanical, but are able to be understood. I found the voice activation (one of the reasons I chose this model) to have a huge learning curve when it comes to the voice commands. If there's ANY background noise (kids in the backseat), or the radio playing at the same time your giving a voice command, you might as well save time and just use the touch screen. I also purchased the Garmin GTM 20 traffic receiver, which also doubles as the unit's power cord. I live in the NY metro area, and I "think" it's working, as I see different colors on main roads when I press the traffic icon. Being that neither comes with a users manual, I don't know if I have it set up right. The cable's a little pricey, but there's no subscriptions to worry about. I also purchased the Garmin Portable Friction Mount, which really keeps the unit in place. As far as the "freezing" issues are concerned, I did a firmware AND map update without any problem. Put aside a good hour or so (I have a cable modem) to take care of this task. I did notice that the POI's (points of interest) had no text labels on the map, and icons are kind of small. There's no bluetooth ability, and uploaded music on a SD card seems to play out of order, even when it's not on shuffle mode. I really don't know why this unit got less than 4 stars in any review. It may or may not stop working in the future, since it is possible to get a lemon with any purchase. But overall, this model is loaded with features and has the GREAT Amazon price.』 (Wave the checker Flag!!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I like the Garmin Nuvi 855 very much. Thumbs up for this realiable Gizmo. Mark Ward』 (What a Dud) ![]() ![]() 『We purchased this unit in late October, for an upcoming trip to Las Vegas we were taking in early Nov. This was our first GPS, and we were looking forward to putting it to the test. As it turned out, it put us to the test! Right after we arrived, and got our car rental, we used it to navigate to an In&Out Burger place. That went pretty well. After lunch, we decided to use it to help us navigate to a couple of ghost towns. On our way there, it locked up, but we removed the battery and we were on our way again after we put the battery back in. The following day, we used it to help us navigate to a local museum. Halfway there, it locked up again, and this time, I couldn't even get it to turn off! Finally, we got it to behave, and we just put it in the glove box, since we knew where we were going by that time anyway. We didn't use it much after that. Fast forward to the other day, when I had several errands in town to run, and not a lot of time to accomplish my task. Thankfully, our son was with us, looking at the map as we moved along, because it told us we were 8 miles from our turn off, and the next thing I know, I drove past the turnoff! While I am busy navigating us back to where we needed to be, our son couldn't get it to turn off, and when he finally did, it wouldn't come back on! We removed the battery, and put it back in, and that worked. It worked fine for the balance of our day. I need a GPS unit I can trust. If he hadn't been with me, and let's say I was in unfamiliar territory this could be really bad for me, since I am somewhat handicapped. I understand no unit will be perfect, but this one is WAY off the mark as far as we are concerned! We only tested it in relatively familiar territory at first, so we could see if it would be reliable or not. I would definitely put this one in the category of not reliable! We are returning this unit, and i have purchased the Garmin 780, and we will see how that goes! Hopefully, I will be able to write a glowing review after putting that one through its paces! We really wanted to get the 7200 Street Pilot, but the issue of not having an internal battery was a problem for me, since my car has one plug in up front, and another WAAY in the back. If I ever needed to charge both the GPS and my phone, one of them has to go way out of my reach, behind the back seat. As a side note, I cannot say it has been fun researching and reading TONS of info. on all things Garmin for several days! To begin with, there are features on any given unit that I might like that someone else might not like, so with every review you read, you kind of have to take what info. works for you, and toss the rest. I don't know if it is doable, but it would be kind of cool, if you could kind of "custom" order a GPS, that has only the features on it you want. For example, an Mp3 is useless to me. I have a really great Mp3, and I know that what they put in these units cannot compare. I also have no need for the bluetooth feature. I realize that the 760 is the same unit, but without the bluetooth feature, but it is also about $34.00 more at the moment. Hmmm..., it costs more, but has less features. Yep, that makes sense! I hope this review has been a helpful one to you, if you are seriously considering getting this particular unit. Was it locking up just a weirdo thing, and perhaps another unit wouldn't lock up? That is entirely possible. I just don't want to have to keep trying the same unit over and over again.』 (Great So Far) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I ordered Garmin 885 Nov. 8th and it arrived at my home surprisingly Nov. 10th with free standard shipping. Ironically, the GPS case I ordered the same time has not arrived even today! After researching several models, I settled with 885. I am a first time GPS buyer, never used a GPS in my life. Saw some of my friends using a GPS and got lost every time. I have been resistance of purchasing a GPS for my travel, but I decided to give a shot to see if it helps me, yes it did help after I tested it out a few days. Although the instruction manual is not quite clear for a first time GPS user, it is not difficult to figure out various features by pressing icons. The Garmin's web site did not really help me much when I was trying to find out how to operate various features. The web help is difficult to search, I might not have reviewed the site closely and did not know how to browse correctly. I am also not a patient person, like to get things done very quickly. If I do not see information that helps me, I started pressing icons on the unit. I think I have mastered most of the features in a very short time period. I tested it out in the past 3 days, just love it! It gave me clear directions with enough preparation time. The voice recognition feature is really a plus. Surprisingly, it understands most of words I speak; English is not my native language, I give very good rating for this feature 885 offers. I had difficulty pronouncing the word "routes", the poor GPS could not understand what I was saying, then a gentle touch on the screen indeed helped. I remember I read some people saying that the unit cannot be powered off, they had to take the battery out or insert a piece of paper in the battery case. This unit I have does not have a Power Off button, but you can power it off easily. What you do is plug it to your computer via UPS cable, then unplug it. You will be prompted to either turn off or stay on. Just click on Turn Off or wait for 30 seconds, the unit would turn off. Another way is when you take the GPS off the cradle (the same as unplug the car charger), it prompts you either turn off or stay on. Just wait and the unit will be turned off. I also read people saying something about windshield mount is not as good as the "sandbag" mount. In the package, there is a small round piece, you clue it on dash board, then suck the cradle on the round piece; this way you see the GPS very closely. I think the volume is fine, I set it up to 90% when I was listening to radio. But you can plug an audio cable from the cradle to your car and use the speaker system. If I do not listen to radio, I set the volume to 70%. One thing I am not sure is if it can give me an overview of my route after the route is calculated. Another thing is how to speed up the "simulator". What I mean is when you change the GPS to simulator, it will run an entire route for you, but it is too slow. I cannot find a place to change the speed of simulation or if I can pinpoint to the area near the destination and start the simulation from that point. I would also hope that when a route is calculated, I can review it and can revise the route manually by touching screen, just like Google Map. This model may have the above features, but I just do not know yet. In general, I really like the unit; the price is so good in Amazon, a small $200 unit that can do so many things, really amazed me. 』 『 Garmin nüvi 855 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator with Speech Recognition > 『 Garmin nüvi 855 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator with Speech Recognition > 『 Garmin 4.3-Inch Premium Carrying Case with Flap > 『 Garmin 4.3-Inch Premium Carrying Case with Flap > 『 Garmin 010-11280-00 Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Portable GPS > 『 Garmin 010-11280-00 Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Portable GPS > 『 Arkon GPSHDCSXL Protective Hard Case for 4.3-Inch GPS Devices (Black) > 『 Arkon GPSHDCSXL Protective Hard Case for 4.3-Inch GPS Devices (Black) > 『 Garmin 4.3-Inch Carrying Case > 『 Garmin 4.3-Inch Carrying Case > I wanted to buy It↑ タイトル『 Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) > 『 Garmin nüvi 765/765T 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Factory Refurbished) > 『 3 year Electronics Warranty: Top Consumer Rated. 5-day Service Guarantee - Electronics $175-200 > 『 3 year Electronics Warranty: Top Consumer Rated. 5-day Service Guarantee - Electronics $175-200 > 『 Garmin 010-11280-00 Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Portable GPS > 『 Garmin 010-11280-00 Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Portable GPS > 『 Leather Carry Case for Garmin Nuvi 200W 250W 260W 205W 255W 265WT 755T 765T 775T 785T 880 600 610 650 850 660 670 750 760 770 780 755T 765T (GPS Not Incl. > 『 Leather Carry Case for Garmin Nuvi 200W 250W 260W 205W 255W 265WT 755T 765T 775T 785T 880 600 610 650 850 660 670 750 760 770 780 755T 765T (GPS Not Incl. > 『 Garmin Portable Friction Mount > 『 Garmin Portable Friction Mount > 『 Garmin 4.3-Inch Premium Carrying Case with Flap >

I had it on order for a 4 days and it didn't ship even though it was in stock. Had the option to cancel that order and I reordered when it hit $189 and chose two day shipping and it shipped right away, annoying, but I digress. The unit arrived in perfect condition except for a few fingerprints which easily wiped off, and included all accessories. I was able to register the unit on the Garmin website, and was offered a free map upgrade. Things that differ from the 760: - bar along the top - instead of displaying the upcoming crossroad, the 765 displays the street you are driving on. Pretty useless. I would much rather have it display the upcoming crossroad. - Upcoming turn arrows in the top left are a nice addition. - The 765 still displays your current speed on the lefthand tag when navigating a route. On the 760 - that vanished and was replace with something else when on a route. - The righthand tag can be customized to display the ETA, current time, or elevation. - Zoom in / out buttons are now both located on the righthand side, as is the shortcut button for the mp3 player. The mp3 button is quite small. - Lifetime traffic works well and was timely on my commute home last night. Unit correctly anticipated traffic and routed me around it. - Bluetooth does not work as well as the 760. Had great difficulty pairing with a Motorola W385. I eventually did after several tries, but will not download the contacts. I need to "connect" every time I turn on the nuvi. My old 760 had no problem and connected automatically once the phone was in range. - FM transmitter was initially very weak (as is the one on the 760) but I discovered that if you go into the service screens (Press and hold the battery icon) - you can set the transmitter to "High Power" and it works much better. It is now quite acceptable. - Battery does not last long at all on the 765. Low battery comes on in about 20 minutes with the screen set to full brightness. You can gain run time by setting the screen dimmer. -Screen smoothness / refresh rate and icons are much nicer than on the 760. Screen also seems easier to see in sunlight. - The 765 acquires satellites much quicker. - speaker is louder on the 765. I could barely hear the 760. - 3D building view is pretty cool. - Have not seen the junction view yet, though I have only used it for a few days. - Both units support multi point routing which is a major consideration if you want to force the route to be where you want. I use the Nuvis on my motorcycle and seldom want to take the most direct way but rater specify which scenic or twisty roads I want to ride to get there. Either the 760 or 765 will do that for you. Overall the 765 is a nice improvement, though the weak bluetooth, short battery life, and lack of upcoming crossroads are the major drawbacks. Pluses are a nicer looking screen / graphics, fast acquisition time, and better FM transmitter (once set to "High Power) 』 (Didn't Work Out of the Box) ![]() 『Buyer beware. This didn't work straight out of the box. Garmin will only replace with another refurbished unit. Save yourself time and aggravation and buy something new.』 (Lost without it!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『As someone who travels extensively, I'd be lost without it. Not just the maps but the other great features as well. I purchased the refurb because Garmin had upgraded it from just the 765 to the 765T which includes the traffic receiver. The traffic receiver (fm) also allows me to hear my garmin through my car stereo which is very useful when connected via bluetooth to my phone. I download books to my Garmin and I play them through the stereo too. I have yet to see the lane assist work, I guess I don't travel in areas that support this map feature. I'm looking forward to seeing it work. I beleive that this was a great value buy. Highly recommended!』 (Pretty awesome toy!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『After doing extensive web research, this was the best GPS at a great price. My only CON is that I can not get my Treo 650 to work properly on it through the Bluetooth. Otherwise is great.』 (The Goods) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Garmin with NavTeq maps is the way to go. Nearly perfect routing. Reliable maps. Very solid combination generally. This particular unit is an excellent combination of features and, as a refub, a stunning value. The features that allow this device to stand out from most other Garmins are these: (1) Instant on and instant navigation when turned back on where it was turned off. (2) Lane assist in major cities in some intersections. (3) Multiple stops (Via Points) from your starting point to your destination (many Garmins don't do this). (4) Lifetime traffic. You have to put up with small, rather inconspicuous ads now and again, but it's really no big deal. (5) There is no antenna to extend. It's built into the base unit. (6) It's really, really sensitive. Really. Sensitive. Works great. (7) There are transparent images of large buildings and structures that aid somewhat in navigation but even more, are entertaining and interesting. You really can't go wrong. What does it lack? (1) Most notably, voice recognition. (2) MSN services, but that is scheduled to be shut off for lack of interest anyway.* (3) A way to turn off the navigation to carry it around listening to the MP3 player when you're out of the car. It's constantly finding GPS signals in the grocery store and announcing when it's lost the signal in the store. I certainly don't need that and certainly don't need the battery being drained trying to GPS while I'm in Barne&Noble. It would be nice to be able to turn the GPS off while using other features, like the MP3 player and Audio Book player. (5) The FM transmitter that assists using the GPS and MP3 player with the car stereo is apparently as strong as the FCC permits, but it's still not strong enough to overcome competing stations in the city. It's just not a good connection. Too much noise. Some FM transmitters do better, and I've actually plugged my Garmin GPS's audio output into Belkin FM transmitters that seem to do a better (but still not great) job. (6) It doesn't have Europe on it. Just all of North America. These really are niggling complaints. It's a great unit. I'm loving the instant on. didn't realize how much I'd like that until I got it. [...]』 『This is a refurbished GPS. Refurbished generally means that the unit has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the navigator back to like new conditions. Some GPS may contain cosmetic blemishes. Garmin continues to build up its nüvi 7xx series portable GPS navigators with its nüvi 765T, which adds a number of handy routing and communication features to an already impressive list of specs, including a 4.3-inch widescreen display, text-to-speech capabilities, media player, and FM transmitter for transmitting audio--including directions and MP3 music and audiobooks--from the device to your car radio.
The bright, 4.3-inch touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70 percent more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. The nüvi 765T comes preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps from Navteq for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip. Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location. Important Product Information: This device features a "screen lock" feature. This is a standard feature on all nüvi 2x5 and 7x5 Garmin units. If you slide the "Power" key to the right, it will lock the screen and prevent any accidental touches. Once the screen lock feature is engaged, the screen will go black/gray after about 15 seconds to save power on the device. To unlock the screen, just slide the "Power" key to the center position. This feature is really targeted for "Pedestrian" mode so that a user can put the device in his or her pocket/purse and quickly unlock the screen instead of powering on/off continuously. For more information, see page 5 of the product manual.
Watch informational video In most areas, the traffic broadcasts are continuous--there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions.
