『The lid does not stay on very well. I sit with my daughter to teach her to put the correct shape through the correct hole and she gets frustrated and takes the lid off (because she knows she can) and puts it in that way. I wish the lid would stay on better and it would be a much better toy.』

『I've noticed a lot of other reviews of the this product complaining that the lid doesn't snap on. That is true, but I haven't found it to be a problem. My son loves to play with the pieces, the lid, the container. While he isn't at the stage yet where he is "sorting" the shapes, he still enjoys the toy. And I think the fact that he understands how to take the lid off to get the shapes out shows he is in the know.

I will say I would never pay retail price for this or many other toys. I got this one in like new condition at a mom 2 mom sale for $1.00.

As for the toxicity issue, well, we try to do our best to be mindful of these things, but unfortunately, it is almost impossible to know what is really in a product. If you are really concerned, don't buy any plastic toys. On that note, when we do pay retail price for new toys, it is always for natural or wood toys, not plastic! Fisher Price doesn't need any more money then they already have ;)

『My daughter enjoyed this for the first five minutes, but once the container was full and we went to empty it, we couldn't get the lid to stay on. It will stay briefly if you lock the blue handle over it, but then kids can't see all of the shapes. There are much more fun shape sorters out there that actually work for more than a few minutes.』

『Received this as a gift for my 3 year old daughter's birthday. She likes it, but my 5 year old son loves it! My 3 year old scribbles, presses the buttons, and will sometimes follow the directions. It will be a great toy for her as she gets a little older. I was surprised how much my 5 year old likes it....took to it immediately, is practicing his letters, sounds, etc. I would definately recommend for an older 3 year old to maybe a 5 or 6 year old.』

『My just-turned-3 daughter loves this toy - we bought it in advance of a long car trip and it was helpful in keeping her attention. She calls it her "Leapster" and loves the fact that she has something electronic and portable like her older sisters have. She's a smart cookie, but due to her age, she's not really able to really follow tracing letters. I can see this being increasingly fun and interesting to her later this year. There are lots of different play features so fortunately not all of it is beyond her. She's able to turn it on and off by herself which is great for battery life, and is able to put the stylus back in it's place too. It's lightweight but not flimsy and a perfect size for preschoolers to carry around. The volume level is not obnoxious if it's on the lower setting - it doesn't drive the adults crazy. Recommended.』

『After returning the vtech version of this(which was awful) I exchange it for this and we absolutely love it. My just turning 4 year old is playing with it all the time and tracing her letters. Today she even started writing the letters without pressing the button to have the toy tell her how. It seems very sturdy, the voice is not annoying at all, it says cute things when you write the letter, it's attractive looking and portable sized, and reasonably priced. We are thrilled with this purchase and it's a relief to have something to get her excited about writing. I highly recommend the Scribble&Write!』

『We used this with our homeschooling and it was popular to say the least. The local radio shack also sells it and can be a resource for extras you can buy to get the most out of it. It comes with a booklet that shows you how to make each experiment. Any hands-on tool used for teaching, especially one where the kids get so excited about the results is always a plus. I'd recommend it as a great project to do with your kids to teach them the basics of how electricity works. My oldest quickly was able to do this independently with her siblings.』

『We were looking for a toy that would provide hours of learning, and also be fun to play. This was a birthday present for a 10 year-old, who already has every toy imaginable. We hit the jackpot with this one! He immediately started into the first project (there are 300 of them, in progressing difficulty), and played continuously for an hour and a half, his excitement building with each completed project. How many toys can do that? Even his Dad and uncle became like kids again, joining in the fun. The many pieces are organized in tray slots, so there is a place for every piece. Some of the pieces are small, so use caution around young chidren. This was by far the best price we could find for this kit. Well worth the money, and a great learning toy!!』

『I purchased this for my grandson for Christmas when he had just turned 2 and I have to say it definitely keeps his interest. When he is visiting and I am busy in the kitchen I am able to hear the sounds of the toy along with his reactions knowing he is entertained. Not only has it taught him the animals, the sounds they make but also learning where and how the pieces go. He thinks it is also very funny when he creates his own silly animal. I also find that when my older boys (high school and jr. high) have friends over they all seem to turn it on and start playing thinking this is pretty interesting. The pieces have been dropped and abused many times and it is still holding up really well. I would definitely recommend adding this to any gift list.』

I was so disappointed to find that the current version available feels&looks much cheaper than the older versions we saw at her friends'. The plastic is flimsy, and the toy has no weight to it. Also, the earlier models with the frog (rather than duck) sang a song when you pushed on the frog button, and this one doesn't. All in all I am disappointed that I bought this new rather than looking for a used, but higher-quality, version.』

『My daughter was 1 when she received this toy, and was immediately drawn to it. She loves the songs and dances to the music, she quickly learned how to make it "sing"! As others have stated I also loved the positive message that it uses with a wrong match calling it silly rather than wrong. It also gives small tidbits of information about the animals when you make a correct match. Lastly, I love the small size of this toy, it's an easy one to take on a trip to Grandma's.

『We are huge fans of Leap Frog toys at our house. We bought this toy for our daughter's 1st b-day. She dances to the music and likes playing with the pieces. She just turned 1 on 9/28 so she is a little young yet when it comes to matching the animals and placing them in the barn. She can get 1 piece in but that is it. She still has a great time with it. We love the magnets on it, they seem to be strong enough so it doesn't slide down the fridge. I am able to clean up the kitchen while she plays, which is a blessing in it's self. The songs are cute and we are not worried about her choking on any of the pieces since they are not too small. Also, the toy still gives positive feedback to the kids even if the animals are not matched correctly. Instead of saying, "oops try again", like some other toys. Our 8 yr. old daughter secretly enjoys playing with it as well. I think she just likes mismatching the animals to hear what it will be called. (pig cow, sheep duck, etc.)

This toy is great for 1 yr, olds but most likely they won't be able to match them until about 18 mo. or older. In my opinion, practice makes perfect and the younger kids will still enjoy it. Real Electronic Parts
Electronic Snap Circuits includes real circuit components just like the circuit boards inside radios, televisions, computers, and other electronic devices. This set makes it easy for anyone to create simple electronic circuits and devices. To operate, you simply snap the electronic elements onto a plastic grid, and then connect them together with wire pieces that snap easily into place.

The SC-300 lets you build electronic devices such as a whistle chip, speaker, alarm circuit, LED, lamp socket, fan motor, and a speaker. Additional pieces can be purchased separately, or in different models, and they can all be used together to create larger and more elaborate projects.

Making Electronics Fun and Easy
The included instruction manual offers 305 projects ranging from a simple light switch to a noise-activated burglar alarm. We found the color-coded instruction manual clear and easy to understand, and we had no problems creating any of the projects we tried. The projects are organized by levels of difficulty, and each project teaches an objective such as "To show how electricity can only pass in one direction through an LED."

We definitely experienced a sense of satisfaction as we completed each project, and we definitely learned about electronics concepts. The manufacturer recommends the set for ages 8-108; younger engineers should be able to easily follow the diagrams for each project, but will probably require their parents to help explain how everything works. So a word of warning to parents: Brush up on your high school physics! Although the instruction offers some good information, we found that we still needed to brush up on the physics we learned years ago so we could understand concepts such as the difference between a circuit in parallel and in series.

Unique Learning Experience
Creating a flying UFO from "scratch" with rudimentary electronic pieces was highly satisfying to us, and we think Electronic Snap Circuits may well help young students gain and foster an appreciation for, and interest in, how electronics work and are built.

For students who are already learning about electronics in school, this set creates a hands-on experience that makes for more fun than reading about how these things work in a textbook. So don't be surprised if report cards come back with higher grades after playing with this toy.

Parent-Child Bonding Experience
