I am not a fan of the entire genre (Mostly a Hayao Miyazaki fan) and this is one of the few that matches the quality and compassion inherent in Studio Ghibli films. It is refreshing to see an anime based on religious implications that is not caught up in loud rock music, giant robots and the like. I went into seeing this anime more out of curiosity from a friend but it quickly became a great source of inspiration and strengthened my spiritual understanding. This is one of the greatest television shows ever and is an overlooked, underappreciated classic. Compassion is a major theme of this work and in appropriately capturing the emotion it's hard not to appreciate this. It is definitely worth it's high purchase price, because it is so good as to be sentimental and something I am waiting to show friends and my possible children in the future. This story is another reason to trust and believe in God and a just universe.』
(The most touching, poignant, and moving anime ever!) 『I hoped to spend a lot more time with this amazing group of Hibane, but even with 13 episodes I felt as if I were with the group for a lot longer. You can read any of the previous reviews for a breakdown of the story, but let me tell you: you cannot be prepared for what takes place during this story. I do not give away spoilers, but let us say that by episode 10 you think everything is going somewhat well until the final 2 episodes basically slap you senseless.
This is a series that may be viewed by all ages, but to really watch and understand, a more worldly view is required. The story never really tells what the Haibane really are and why they are in this limbo-like city and who the outsiders are. The viewer is encouraged to come to their own conclusions.
The story is beautifully written, characters are masterfully portrayed, and even the English dub is excellent. Artwork is some of the best Japan has produced to date. What I love about this anime is that even with the sadness, the viewer tends to 'feel good', it is almost inexplicable. You will find tears in your eyes, yet have a big smile on your face!

The animation is artistic and well-drawn, the characters are compelling, and the story draws you in like no other anime or movie I've ever watched. It is rather symbolic and takes its time developing the story, so if you're just up for a fast action or crazy romance anime, this series may not be for you. It is thought-provoking and continually interesting throughout, and the ending is the most fantastic and satisfying I have ever experienced in an anime series. I'm not going to give anything away (and don't let anyone else either!), but Haibane Renmei, I suspect, has a slightly different meaning for everyone who watches it. In short, an underrated and terrific show. I highly, highly recommend it.』

Throughout the series, there are many mysteries and unexplained circumstances. I found it refreshing not to have everything spelled out. But it is the characters that matter most. The full length series is a perfect venue to allow the viewers to know the characters. As I watched, I was concerned that the end would not measure up to the rest of the series, but it turned out to be the most powerful episode. I have watched it all the way through three times so far and would watch it more, but I am so blown away each time, I need to wait. The music is also very well done. I highly recommend this to anyone who would doubt that anime can be a true art form.』

(An End To The Journey And A Heart-Wrenching Cost) 『I explained most of what I thought with the first box set to this classic series this is mostly to do with what happens after the pack reaches its destination to paradise. If you have seen the series from start to finish I'm sure you have just as I have grown to truly care what happens to Kiba and the rest like Tsume, Toboe, Hige, Blue, and some of the other characters of the series. The few episodes to the finale are some of the most heart-aching scenes to watch and made me want to punch some of the people who decided this finale for the series. I don't want to give to much away for first time viewers of the series but I can tell you that even watching the final episodes over again you'll still shed a tear for what happens. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (THE defintive swordplay anime series ever!) 『Ahh, this was the series that started it all! My love and fascination for anime! True, there are far better animated and written samurai anime series since, but Rurouni Kenshin is easily one of the most popular and recognizable anime ever.
For those few not in the know, Himura Kenshin is a Rurouni - a wandering samurai. He was the Hitokiri Battousai: the most feared swordsman in 19th century Japan during the waning years of the Tokugawa era. After taking countless enemy lives during the revolution, he decides to atone for his sins by living a life of peace and virtual anonymity wandering the countryside.
Now sworn to protect life, Kenshin uses the sakabatou (a reversed blade sword.) But ghosts from his past come back to haunt him, and he must fight to save his his soul, new found friends (Kaoru, Yahiko, Sanosuke and Megumi all have very interesting stories themselves), and for the future of Japan.
In my opinion, this series is one of few if not one of the best English dubbed anime out there. All the American voice actors did a superlative job but Lex Lang as Sanosuke and Richard Hayworth (Cansino) as Kenshin are outstanding.
Rurouni Kenshin deserves to be on every anime fan's list of must have dvds.

A perfectly put together Box set you get the first 48 episodes of Rurounie Kenshin Wandering Samurai but the only problem is this set will leave you with a hunger for more. I hear some reviews saying that if you buy this used and new from a seller than most likely you'll get a bootleg and that's true in a way but you just have to make sure whom you buy from has good reviews from other buyers. If Cartoon Network replays this series again don't watch it because they take all of the good stuff out.
I also have seen some reviews that say this set only contains the first 27 episodes and wow did those guys get cheated cause this is a set with 48 episodes. If you've never seen the series this is a perfect place to start, you save so much money on this box instead of spending tons of cash on those individual volumes fans love so much and won't sell for a nice price. The first episode introduces the kind hearted Kenshin who bumps into his future named Kaoru but neither know it and you have to buy it to know the rest cause saying anything else would ruin this masterpiece. The subtitles are a little off but the voice actors do a pretty good job so I would recommend just watching the English dubbed version.』

(Greatest Animated Series Ever, Box set not so much) 『It is an uncontestable fact that Rurouni Kenshin is a great, great series; and I will say up front that this box set is worth buying despite its faults. The show has everything; silly comedy, political intrigue, real, complex emotion; fascinating character development and conflicting purposes; and of course crazy-beautiful over the top, landscape-destroying, bouncing-off-the-ceiling swordfights.
But: there were several issues with the box set that buyers should know. One: the DVD encoding quality is not great; it doesn't get in the way too often, but you can see it.
I preface Problem Two by saying that it is not worth buying this OR ANY ANIME (only exceptions being Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service) if you are only going to watch the dubbed version. The American voice actors are all completely atrocious; please disregard anything you have heard to the contrary, and imagine a bad porno movie with no sex. The American voice actors have apparently never heard of Japan, or listened to the Japanese dialogue they are dubbing over; the DVD's "outtakes" consist of the voice actors demonstrating their inability to pronounce japanese words, and these outtakes are not much worse than the takes that made it into the presentation. Regardless, none of the characters in Rurouni Kenshin can be separated from their original voice actors except for an occasional generic villian; the show makes no sense when Kenshin is played by a gravelly-voiced caucasian punk trying to sound badass and not succeeding. I'm sure Richard Hayworth has his talents, but he has no business trying to be Himura Kenshin when he can't pronounce his own name.
On to Problem 2: Only 95% of the dialogue is translated into subtitles. This is irritating. Someone will be saying something and you read the line underneath and understand. Then they will follow with a setence that inexplicably lacks a subtitle. This seems to happen at least once almost every episode. Definitely not worth switching to English for. But sometimes you can just tell that what that guy just said was pretty important.
Problem 3: Partly my fault for not researching a little better, but this box set cuts off before the end of the major story arc, the Kyoto Arc (Shishio). It stops after Sanosuke fights with Anji in Shishio's fortress, which those who know the series know is a painful place to have to stop.
Problem 4: If you buy from a customer "used and new" because you don't have 145$ to burn, expect to get the bootlegged version (like I did). Bootlegged anime is very common and the quality is still good; I hear it is somehow legal in Hong Kong and Korea where this happens, but whatever, lower prices, woohoo! This is the version shown in the "customer photos" above; it has all the episodes, but not all of the extras that the legitimate version has. It has a sort of crappy photo gallery/character bios feature (only Aoshi and Megumi have bios and the gallery is really pathetic) and the aforementioned outtakes: essentially nothing worth checking out. No character greetings, no attack list and no liner notes. To me, that's worth the difference of 80$, though.
And one last thing: the second half of the first disk and the first few episodes of the second disk are filler episodes in the series. While hardcore fans might make themselves endure these, they are not canon, they are not in the manga, and they are really terrible. The animation in these is the worst you will see in the series and you will skip them if you value your time. :) Knowing the quality of the series overall makes it painful for a fan of "good Kenshin" to watch Kenshin foiling a band of train robbers on horseback, or teaming up with circus sideshow actors.
All that said, the Kenshin box set is still 5 stars because the quality of the show--much like _true love_--conquers all.』

Islands of rock drifting in space, horse drawn carriages yet they do a lot of fighting in Space ships. You will see numerous Space battles--sword fights all of which are well done. There is no fan service to speak of. As for myself this was a 3 1/2 star series. To start with it is in a Widescreen format and comes in a thin pak with 2 DVD cases, one on each side of the DVD case. The story line is about an Emperor who seeks nothing but power. He treats his subjects poorly and rules with an iron fist. Thus setting himself up for a rebellion lead by Micheal though I think it is pronounced Michelle. Micheal is quickly defeated and is drifting when their space ship is rammed and being looted by pirates...enter Cleo. Now the true journey begins...to right what is wrong. To fulfill the long awaited prophecy. "When what was two becomes one". I will not tell you the whole story but this is not a stand alone series it is continuous. While there are a couple of flash backs there is nothing that takes away from this series. Most voices are nicely done and the quality of animation is good from start to finish. While it does have CG it does not rely on it heavily and it blends excellently together. The storyline moves forward at a steady pace and introduces new characters which keeps you interested. This was a show I was glad I bought and it has good replay value but 50 bucks is a little spendy. If you can get it around 30-35 bucks it is a solid buy. Now will you like it.....I do not know but I can tell you the type of series that I enjoy...which are things like..Trinity Blood..Black Blood Brothers..Hellsing..Jyu Oh Sei..Death Note though this is not as intense as those it is still worth watching.』

(fan service without a story) 『This series is just painful. The story is cookiecutter Harem anime without much originality. THe main character is a loser as usual but has an allergy to girls and guess what? he gets surrounded by girls. Then there are the annoying rivals who are just over the top to the point of irritation. This series really doesn't have much of a story other than to provide a lot of fan service ad when i say a lot, i mean a lot. There is way too much sexual innuendo going on (as seen with the main girl eating a banana.) This fan service goes on so much that it takes its price by taking away from character development and depth.
Again you have episodes that can be found in all of this genre and you have similar humor. What is worse, there is a story put in but it doesn't show up until the last disc and creates one of the worst endings in anime. It is so bad that you will feel insulted and be glad to be done with the series instead of left wanting more.
I give it 2 stars because some of the stories are fairly funny but those moments are few and far between. I would recommend skipping this series and finding soemething better』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (An underrated, charming series.) 『As I watched the series at Hulu, I fell in love with characters, the storyline and the comical parodies of such films as "The Ring" and slapstick comedy that is reminiscent of the 3 Stooges. The cast of characters include Miki's mother who is the only one who bests Miki in fighting. Megumi the bakery shop clerk and poster girl. She is quite attractive and offers customers a sweet smile, yet within her beats the heart of a demon. Megumi uses skewer sticks as projectile weapons at Miki but Miki is able to dodge them each time. It's revealed that Megumi and Miki were once classmates in grade school and claims to have been bullied by Miki. There are times when Megumi demonstrates a kind heart.
Next is Kankuro, a somewhat thick-headed college grad. who like Megumi, knew Miki as a child. But in his case, Miki did bully him sometimes beating him. Swearing to get revenge, Kankuro trained in order to accomplish this. However his plans never work leaving him bruised and beaten again and again. What adds to his fuel for revenge is that Miki never remembers his name.
Another character (non human) that is seen frequently is Toshiyuki. A vicious bulldog that takes an instant dislike to Miki. There is one instance when he goes to Miki tugging on her apron to follow him when his young owner Endou, Wakana is trapped inside a garbage truck heading to the landfill knowing that she (Miki) is the only one able to save the young girl.
Akihiko Ohta operates the grocery shop next to the Chinese restaurant (owned by Miki's mom). He has an obsession with a Power Rangers like series called Star Rangers. Though somewhat responsible and down to earth, he sometimes fantasies of being the Red Star Ranger. He loves seeing Miki in action, often encouraging her on.
Finally there's Tomoka Kayahara, a high school teacher whose appearence is somewhat scary/ghostly. Megumi believes her to be a vengeful spirit and fears her. Tomoka's face changes from scary to stunningly beautiful when she eats ramen. The one thing that she dislikes are bullies and tries to counsel them into ceasing such bad behavior.
Several other sub characters round out this series adding more flavor.

(Hilarity Ensues!) 『Ramen Figher Miki is an extremely hilarious anime! It doesn't have a plot, nor does it take itself seriously for the most part, but all it's about is 3 mini stories in each episode detailing the different aspects of what it means to be a Poster girl for a Ramen shop (even though she does anything BUT deliver ramen). This is strictly an action/comedy anime; there arent' any tearjerking elements or anything else. If you have watched other comedy anime such as School Rumble or Ouran High School Host Club, you will most DEFINITELY enjoy this series! The only complaint I have about this anime is that it's too short; 13 episodes is nothing, when it could have gone so much farther. But aside from that, this is recommended for all who can use a laugh.』
(An Entertaining Fight Filled Funny Anime Of The Most Tomboyish Psycho Ramen Firl You'll Ever See) 『I saw a few episodes on Hulu and knew immediately that I had to get this fantastic series for my collection. The Series follows mainly on the character of Miki Onimaru daughter of Ramen restaurant owner Makiko Onimaru and while Miki may be a little absentminded and somewhat clumsy she more than makes up for it with her fighting abilities and attitude and the only one able to put her in her place is her mother. Also in the series you'll see her arch-rival Megumi Kannazuki who was bullied by Miki in school and owns the bakery across the street and who Miki sees as a competitor for customers, and than you have Kankuro Nishiyama self imposed rival to Miki as well since he was also bullied by Miki even though she is younger than he is, for the last character you have Akihiko Ohta another store owner on the street but is actually a friend to both Miki and her mother but who also enjoys watching the fights Miki gets into as well as seeing her mother give out Miki's punishment. The series is light-hearted similar to Ranma1/2 so don't worry about anything to dramatic or serious and the series. The set is only subbed which I found to be alright but to people who don't like having to read the subtitles than you'll have to pass this over since the Japanese audio is all you're going to get with this complete set, and the video is clear and sharp so no problems with that. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Good series, but I wish this set had better packaging) 『The Chrono Crusade Complete Collection is a five-disc set that contains all twenty-four episodes of the series. There the first four discs have six episodes each, with extras included on the first, second, and fourth discs. The fifth disc in the set only contains extras. I was disappointed by the packaging of this set. When you open the box, you find that all five discs are stacked one on top of the other on one hub. Also, there is no booklet or insert included in the box, so you don't know what episodes are on what discs unless you put the discs into a DVD player.
The extras on the first disc include the original on-air openings for the first five episodes, as well as commentary on episode one by the American voice actors for Rosette and Chrono. The only difference between the five on-air openings is about ten seconds of footage in the middle; otherwise, it's the exact same opening. Because the difference is so slight, it made this feature rather boring to watch. The only extra on the second disc is commentary provided by the American voice actor for Joshua and ADR Director Matt Greenfield. The fourth disc contains the unused on-air openings for the final four episodes. These unused on-air openings are exactly like the openings on the first disc, but with different footage during the ten seconds in the middle.
The fifth disc contains several bonus features. First is "Azmaria's Extra Classes." These are a series of eleven three-four minute pieces that explain various aspects of Chrono Crusade. The topics covered in this section include: America in the 1920's, the Magdalene Order, weapons used by the Magdalene Order, the Apostles, the beasts Satella summons, the devil worshippers, "the Sinners," the pursuers and the Believers, stigmata, the ritual of Atonement, and the Head of Pandemonium. Next, is the clean opening and clean close (which are the opening and ending credits without the credit text).
The "Chrono Crusade Chronicle" is a feature that is designed to look like a newspaper. This is divided into four sections: "Famous People Sighted," "Mysterious Creatures Discovered," "Mechanical Curiosities," and "Chrono Crusade Slang." All of these contain various pieces of information, and is done in a slideshow format (the only exception to this is "Chrono Crusade Slang," which is a list of slang words from 1928 that the viewer can page through). Outside of "Chrono Crusade Slang," the viewer has no control over when the screen changes to the next page of information.
Next is "Production Sketches." This feature is not done in a way that the viewer can go through at their own pace. Instead, it is done as a 36-minute long video file. The disc also includes ADV Previews and DVD credits.
While I was disappointed in the packaging of this set, and wish some of the special features had been done differently, this is a good set to own if you are a fan of Chrono Crusade.』
