Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (final fantasy) 『if you see that i gave it only a 4 stars, it's because i feel it's just a next step up. remember vhs to dvd.
don't get me wrong i love the movie, but when you have a home collection with more then 1,000 dvd, and now you have to replace them with blu-ray. and it has taken me about 12 yrs to collect. i just hope they don't come out with another format, then i have to start all over again lol.』
(Convoluted story with an ambiguous ending) 『This is a very dark animated film, in which a remnant of humans are fighting aliens - and each other - to survive. On the one hand, you have a band of idealists, who believe that the Earth has a spirit that can be used to fight the invaders (whose true nature remains a mystery). They seek spirit essences of some sort, which when united might save humanity. On the other hand, there are militarists who see no reason to believe any of this; their ultimate weapon threatens to destroy the Earth's spirit, Gaia.
From this somewhat promising premise, the story becomes both a confusing shootout (it is unclear if the enemy aliens die and how to fight them) and a political struggle that becomes extremely deadly. At least for me, I could not quite forget that I was watching something made up - I never suspended my disbelief and gave myself over to it. The risks and ambitions just get bigger and bigger, the scenarios more outlandish and desperate and ultimate. By the end, it had nearly completely lost me.
One thing that is good, in my view, is that the outcome remains unexplained and ambiguous. The viewer is not told what happened and what it means, which is nice in that it leaves a lot to the imagination, which is the mark of all quality sci-fi. However, I found the characters boringly two-dimensional and the plot unoriginal, in spite of the good special effects. I assume that the product shoudl stand on its own, as I am not a gamer, and for me it barely did.
I would not recommend this except to those who like this world because of their familiarity with the game or because they want a simple adventure. It is not for hard sci-fi fans.』
(CGI Animation Done Right!) 『Long before James Cameron started pimping his Avatar epic, Square Pictures pioneered the world's first full-length photorealistic CGI animated movie. This was based on the hit video game franchise of the same name, although the movie took a more sci-fi approach as apposed to the more high fantasy that most of the earlier games.
Taking place on a post-apocalyptic Earth(that's right, not Ivalice!)in the mid-21st Century, Aki Ross is a scientist who is trying to collect eight seperate spirits, which when combined will create an energy field that will rid the planet of an alien force. The invaders are creatures referred to as Phantoms, which are ghostlike monsters that literally suck the souls out of people. This happened after a meteor crashed on Earth decades earlier, and the Phantoms spread throughout the world and killed off most of the humans. The survivors live in specially shielded cities, who have built a giant oribiting cannon to blast the alien meteorite and save the planet. But Sid, the scientist who created the special Phantom-proof shields, realizes that this might cause the aliens' spirit to take over the Earth's spirit known as Gaia, which would destroy all life. Sid along with Aki are enlisted the help of the special military squad of Deep Eyes, the commander of which is Aki's old boyfriend, Gray. They try to find the remaining spirits, however the vengeful General Hein is plotting to destroy the Phantoms at any cost.
The Spirits Within was the precursor to several other computer animated films that attempted to have the characters(human or otherwise)appear as real as possible, such as Beowulf, Kaena: The Prophecy, Resident Evil: Degeneration, and Negadon. The animation was virtually years ahead of its time, which might have worked towards its disadvantage as some people were possibly just not ready for that kind of advancement in cinema. Granted, it might seem pretty common by today's standards, but when this came out in 2001 it was groundbreaking, and even busts the chops of some of the more recent digital animation.
Of course the biggest gripe most people had was that it had very little to do with any of the actual Final Fantasy games. Most fans of the series expected guys with gravity-defying hair riding on Chocobos and swinging colossally huge swords around. However, the movie offered a compelling sci-fi/action/drama which managed to incorporate most of the better attributes that the games had, mainly brilliant character development and a compelling plot. It truly is an exceptionally great film, and worth a second look for those who are willing to see past the fanboy hatred.』
(MAGNIFICENT AND BREATH-TAKING 9.5 OUT OF 10) 『It's a shame that this film didn't do as well as it should have. It didn't do very well in terms of critical response (44% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and a 49 out of 100 on Metacritic), it was a box office bomb to the point of where Square Enix kicked the film's director and producer Hironobu Sakaguchi (The creator of the Final Fantasy game franchise) to the curb, and some people have been popping up who proclaim it to be "the worst video game movie ever!" Surprisingly, one of the biggest defenders of the film was film critic Roger Ebert who I hate greatly for a number of reasons. Roger Ebert handed the film a 3.5 out of 4-star rating and didn't believe people would understand the film. I believe Square Enix reacted a little too quickly to fire the creator of Final Fantasy, which I believe was a big mistake. And to those of you who think this is the worst video game film ever, clearly you've never sat through an Uwe Boll travesty, have you? Not to mention, most scores on different sites that I've researched, beg to differ on such a proclamation. I loved this film, it was an amazing cinematic accomplishment in terms of CGI and sci-fi action films. It may not have the most original storyline, but it does pull you in to a certain extent. WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Year: 2065, thirty-four years previously, a mysterious alien forced called Phantoms invaded the Earth and destroyed most of the life on Earth by stealing the spirits of their victims. Now the planet is overrun with the Phantoms. Dr. Aki Ross is a woman struggling with a Phantom parasite inside of her body and suffers from strange dreams she cannot explain. She goes around the planet trying to find eight spirits which, when all eight are collected, will destroy the Phantoms. With the help of the Deep Eyes Squadron and her mentor, Dr. Sid they search the planet to find the seventh and the most important eight spirit. But they face troubles with the military, and the military unknowingly is about to destroy Gaia (Earth's spirit) and let the planet become overrun with the Phantoms. Now Aki and the team must stop this from happening and destroy the Phantoms at their source. MUSIC: This music is simply amazing. It fit the mood well and was extremely well-written and composed. I have absolutely no gripes with this area at all, the music is stunning to put it bluntly. ACTION: This film a feast for the eye. The CGI is staggering and beautiful in every way... and this film came out eight years ago! Nothing competes with this film's CGI, not even Pixar films! The action scenes are wonderful and totally awesome in every regard. The film starts off slow, but then the film goes off with a bang and doesn't stop till the end. It gets the blood and adrenaline pumping and refuses to let go. This is how a Star Wars animated flick should be, not the disastrous Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Widescreen Edition) (Let's just try and pretend that never happened). Quite simply, this sci-fi flick is kickass. ACTING: Although not all these actors are recognizable, their performances are really good, even though there are some moments of questionable dialogue. This film may not have the most compelling characters, but they do their job well and they do move the storyline along quite well. Overall, this area is really good. OVERALL: If you love sci-fi flicks, CGI films, or just love awesome films in general, you must see this film because it will blow you away in just about every way. THE GOOD: Stunning CGI animation, awesome action scenes, good acting, and great music. THE BAD: The storyline doesn't quite live up to the potential and there are moments of awkward dialogue.』
(Definitely a gamers' movie) 『Beautiful colors and brilliant animation with excellent voicings.
That's it. That's about all you can say about this rewarmed pot-boiler. Hackneyed plot, nonexistent character development, unsatisfying conclusion.
This is a film that will appeal to gamers and fans of anime. Everyone else can find better use for their ticket money.』 『Earth is a desolate wasteland inFinal Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Humanity has been decimated by an invasion of Phantoms, insubstantial aliens that extract and devour the spirits of living things. The few remaining humans have retreated to a handful of cities that are protected by massive bio-energy shields. The beautiful Dr. Aki Ross (voiced by Ming-Na) and her mentor Dr. Sid (Donald Sutherland) have discovered that the energy signatures of eight key Earth spirits can cancel out and destroy the Phantoms. With the help of Captain Edwards (Alec Baldwin) and his band of marines, they must scour the globe for the last two remaining spirits before General Hein (James Woods) manipulates the refugee government into attacking the aliens with an orbital laser that may also destroy the Earth.
Hironobu Sakaguchi's film is taken from the popularFinal Fantasyvideo game franchise, which is particularly well suited to film adaptation with its series of original stories, but the movie features entirely new characters and settings. And likeToy StoryandShrek,Final Fantasy: The Spirits Withinis completely computer generated. Unlike those cartoon comedies, though,The Spirits Withinis a serious science fiction drama with astonishingly human digital actors. Aki, the female lead, appeared in a full-page spread inMaximmagazine's Hot 100 list--and was indistinguishable from the real-life models. The setting and conflict make for incredible action, but it's the larger issues, character interaction, and human elements that really make the movie shine. The Spirits Withinis not simply a science fiction movie, in the same way thatCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragonis not simply a kung fu flick. The result is a fantastic summer movie with better action and more emotion thanPearl Harbor, and actors more lifelike than those in that other video game movie,Tomb Raider.--Mike Fehlauer』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The inclusion of the magic fountain was absurd damaging an otherwise excellent episode) 『Even though at times the producers go to great length to avoid expressing it, the relationship between Captain Picard and Ensign Crusher is one of father-son. In this episode, that pretense is largely dropped and Wesley shows his talents in two ways. The first is expressed when Wesley is called to the bridge of the Enterprise and informed that he has been accepted at Star Fleet Academy. Picard is going to leave the Enterprise in order to mediate a dispute on Pentarus Five and he asks Wesley to accompany him. A representative named Dirgo is to transport them and he arrives in a dilapidated shuttle. After some serious questions being raised about the sturdiness of the craft, they depart and shortly after that, the Enterprise is called away on an emergency mission. This mission contains a statement about the political climate when the episode was filmed as it involved the unwise disposal of nuclear waste. The shuttle carrying the Picard party fails and they are forced to make an emergency landing on a desert moon. Since the shuttle carried no emergency supplies, Picard, Wesley and Dirgo are forced to trek across the desert to some distant mountains. They arrive and find some caves with a water fountain protected by a force field. When they attempt to destroy the field with their phasers, Picard is seriously injured and Dirgo is killed. This forces Wesley to find a way to the water and he is able to do so, saving Picard's life until the Enterprise is able to find them. With the exception of the absurdity of the fountain protected by a force field, this episode is a good one in that it focuses on the relationship between Picard and Crusher. Wesley strongly defends Picard against Dirgo and when necessary, is able to adapt to survival conditions, a valuable trait for Star Fleet personnel. 』
(Wesley Crusher earns his pip) 『Ensign Crusher will soon be leaving the Enterprise to enroll in Starfleet Academy and Picard asks Wesley to join him on a final mission so they can spend some quality time together before Wesley is gone. Picard has always felt responsible for Wesley, ever since having to tell his mother that Wesley's father was killed during a mission about 15 years earlier.
Despite his longing of connection with Wesley, Picard has always been awkward in expressing affection with children and he is also wary of crossing the delicate threshold of familiarity with someone of considerably lower rank. Now that time is no longer on their side, Picard hopes to have a final bonding experience.
Picard and Crusher board a miner's shuttle to mediate a conflict on a mining colony. After a series of malfunctions, the shuttle crash lands on a small moon that supports life - albeit poorly. The heat is oppressive and due to injuries sustained on their journey to a cave to avoid the sun, Picard needs water to survive. Wesley and the shuttle pilot (Nick Tate) will also need water within a few days or suffer a similar fate.
Their tricorders detect water, only to find that the water fountain in the cave is protected by an electronic sentry that they cannot figure out how to circumvent.
As Picard fades in and out of consiousness, Wesley must have a non-stop duel of words, will and guile with the mining shuttle captain who believes he can strong-arm his way out of any situation. Although he has fewer years of experience in life, Crusher has the advantage of having been aboard the Enterprise for years, being exposed to more space anomolies and varied species and cultures than this rustic ship captain has in his life time and tries to talk reason to a man with a serious machismo complex.
The mining ship captain gets himself killed in a"you know he had it coming"scene, leaving Wesley to figure out a way to save Picard and himself, with life-saving minutes ticking away. Picard and Crusher bond in a touching last few moments and just when Crusher acts less kid-like and geeky, they get ready to shove him off to Starfleet. Oh well.』
(Felicitous contrivance amidst all the cliches . . .) 『Pros: 1) It's great to see Wesley finally gone. (ABOUT TIME!) 2) There are some nice moments between him and Picard. Cons: 1) Cliche after cliche 2) Why is that fountain in a cave and guarded by a forcefield? Don't even ask . . . If you liked Wesley, I imagine you'll like this episode where the Boy Wonder saves the day yet again. If you didn't like him, I tend to doubt you'll find much to like here, either. But whatever your opinion of Wesley Crusher, surely the writers could have come up with something better than this?』
(The bitter yet oh-so-sweet departure of Wesley Crusher!) 『Woo-hoo! Yes! He's finally gone! Wussley- whoops, Wesley- is finally off the show as a regular cast member! No more of that sniveling, goody-two-shoes attitude to nauseate the NextGen trekkies! Well, except for the once-a-season guest shot, but I can handle a small bit of Wesley every once in a blue moon.
Unfortunately, the screenwriters for this show decided to send off sci-fi's most-reviled teen by once again having him single-handedly save the day (and Capt. Morehead- whoops, Picard)! Man, do those guys know how to beat a concept to death or what! I'll take the umpeenth 'Holodcek malfunction' eppie over one of Wes' solo rescue shows any day of the week!
Yep, it sure is great to see the kid finally gone after this show. Now Jean-Luc can hit on Dr. Crusher and not feel so guilty about it! Go get 'er, chrome-dome! Oh yeah!
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Pretty good slasher sequel) 『Urban Legends 2 - Final Cut is about a group of students at a film college who are competing for an award called The Shakespear Award which will pretty much guarantee them a place in Hollywood with their movie. The main charactor is played by Jennifer Morrison (STIR OF ECHOS) and she has an idea of making a horror movie about a serial killer who's murders are based on Urban Legends . . . but someone is killing off her cast and crew. In this movie nobody is safe and everybody is a suspect. This is an above average slasher movie with a reasonably good cast. The only problem I had with this movie was that, with the exception of the first death (which was also the best and the only gory in one in the movie), I hadn't actually heard of any of the "urban legends" before. This didnt't really spoil the movie but I just thought I'd warn people in case you were dissapointed by this. As well as horror this movie also managed some humour which I usually like in a horror movie. The DVD has:>Directors Commentary>Making-of and Behind-the-Scenes Featurette>Theatrical Trailer>Deleted Scenes Overall an enjoyable movie which I recommend for fans of horror.』
(A Perfect Sequel) 『i loved this movie it is the entry in the urban legend series i love every single urban legend so much i recommended this movie highly!』
(Urban Legend 2) 『The scene on the bathtub alone makes the movie worth a look. The lead is great (Jennifer Morrison, from 'House M.D.'); cinematography and music are also appropriate. Not very original and the killer's revelation at the end is kinda dumb, though. Still, worthy sequel. Too bad UL3 (Bloody Mary) was awful beyound words and has nothing to do with either UL or UL2.』
(Good, But Definitetly Far From Great!!) 『I was excited to see "Urban Legends: Final Cut" because I remember seeing a commercial for it on television, yet never remembering its name. I found it here on Amazon, and I remembered instantly the commercial.
Okay. The storyline was good, but it was pretty badly played out. I mean, the deaths were good, but started to deteriorate throughout the entire movie. The first death was incredible, but then it just got boring and unoriginal.
The acting was good, I thought, and the killer was VERY mysterious and VERY creepy and original. I don't think a killer actually SCARED me before, but the costume in this movie was actually very mysterious and kind of freaky.
It was cool to see some of the most infamous urban legends played out in this movie, like the "people can lick too" story. No wonder the movie is called Urban Legends!!
Overall, this was an okay movie, which was good, but it was cheesy and very unoriginal and kind of boring at some parts. But it is definitely worth a try!』
(A Very Good Sequel) 『This movie is an excellent follow-up to the original "Urban Legend".
The story centers around several film production students who attend the prestigious Alpine University film school; called "the best film school in the world" by one of the school's professors. Travis, the school's top student, has just turned in a sub-par thesis film for which he receives a low grade. Amy Mayfield (Jennifer Morrison) has decided to do her thesis film about a fictional campus serial killer who kills his victims by using urban legends. She brings her idea before her film professor and he seems to think that its an excellent idea. Both Amy and Travis are vying for the all-important Hitchcock film award, which carries a $15,000 prize and a virtual guarantee of a Hollywood film career.
Amy begins working on her project, and all seems to be going well initially until, mysteriously, students begin to turn up missing and, eventually, dead. The students have been killed by using urban legends, just as Amy has in her film. Additionally, Travis has killed himself in despair over his low grade, but someone stole Travis' original film and took credit for themselves.
Meanwhile, Trevor, Travis' twin brother, has come to Alpine to help solve Travis' death. Trevor doesn't believe that Travis killed himself, so, with Amy's help, the two begin searching for answers. Meanwhile, more students have been killed by the serial killer. Will Travis and Amy solve the murders before the killer reaches them?
This is a surprisingly good movie. The plot is excellent and it keeps you guessing right up to the end as to who the killer is. There are several suspects revealed throughout the film, but the killer's identity isn't revealed until the end. It was fun for me trying to figure out who the killer was. Of course, no horror movie would be complete without blood and guts, and this movie has plenty of both.
I recommend this movie very highly. No one is safe and everyone is a suspect. The story is well-conceived and the viewer will be kept guessing until the shocking conclusion.』 『WhileUrban Legends: Final Cutis not nearly as terrifying or inventive as some of its predecessors, the film does offer up a fairly suspenseful whodunit that fans of the teen horror genre will likely appreciate. Amy Mayfield, the film's heroine (played by fresh-faced Jennifer Morrison), is the daughter of an Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker trying to make a name for herself at Alpine University, "the greatest film school that ever existed." Along with several other students she is competing for the coveted Hitchcock award, which virtually guarantees the winner a successful career in Hollywood. When the film school's resident genius and likely winner of the award is found dead, suspicions arise. As other film students are killed off one by one, everyone becomes a suspect. Would someone kill to win the prestigious award?
While striving to be Hitchcockian in theme (as evidenced by its multiple references to the director himself), the film never quite moves beyond cliché. Many scenes are a little too reminiscent of other popular teen horror flicks likeScream(the anonymous masked killer, though not nearly as frightening),The Blair Witch Project(Amy is chased through desolate woods by her stalker), andFriday the 13th(Amy hides from the killer in a lake setting eerily similar to the one where Jason died so many years ago). These elements seem just a little worn out. Morrison gives a serviceable performance, and Loretta Devine, from the originalUrban Legend, adds humor as a Foxy Brown-worshiping security guard. The film manages to keep you guessing until its conclusion, and a sequence set in an abandoned amusement park is truly creepy. But ultimatelyUrban Legends: Final Cutlacks the originality to make a name for itself among the many films of its genre.--Mindy Ruehmann』

I thought, and I'm sure I'm not alone, that everyone seemed to think that it'll be another cheesy remake but it was good. It's a nice Halloween movie, and a nice thriller.』
(Hopeless Bluray) 『I got this BD yesterday&was expecting a better version than the DVD but unfortunately its the worst bluray Ive got Firstly there is no startup menu no subtitles pop up menu has just one option of sound no scene selection ( if you have to watch a particular chapter you have to start from begining&manually go to the particular chapter which is frustating after paying almost 35$.) The picture&sound quality are pretty good but the DVD version has much more options than this Bluray. DO NOT BUY THIS BD&GET FOOLED.』
(good) 『I think the only problem I have with Final Destination 2 is that the pacing of the storyline isn't as good as in the original. I mean, all the scenes that are supposed to build to a dramatic tragic death because it's that persons time to leave this world according to death... these particular moments always felt rushed to me with not much of an interesting build up getting to them. It's like the writers didn't feel like building to the suspenseful moments this time around. Much lazier writing compared to the first Final Destination.
Besides that, the graphic visuals of the deaths themselves are probably better than in the first one because they look so dang cool and violent, and the movie as a whole is right in between the first and third Final Destination movies as far as enjoyment is concerned. The original will always be the best one because it had great atmosphere and a somewhat original storyline.
Still, thinking aboug death and the big questions in life such as whether you are supposed to die at a certain time during your life will probably enter your mind as you watch Final Destination 2 and think about your own future. I guess this is such a huge and mysterious question we can't help but wonder the answer to it.』
(Death Gets All Up In Your Face) 『At heart, all horror movies operate on the human response to mortality. Your average horror fan gets a thrill from the films because they are a sort of spice for life, they are the seasoning that makes the mundane parts of life all the more richer. Watch a bunch of people get sliced and diced by a monster or madman, and that adrenaline rush makes you feel as if, on some level, you yourself have cheated death. For awhile or more, it's nice to be alive.
The FINAL DESTINATION films utilize the same premise, but instead of creating a defeatable or relatable villain, it makes the very act of dying the villain. Watching the movies, it's very much like they decided that the force of Death, after a millenia of ending lives, has grown bored and has decided to put some spice into his job. In all of the movies, Death awards a young soul with a premonition of a huge catastrophe, and when that soul saves him/herself (along with a handful of others), Death gleefully sets up cat-and-mouse games with the survivors and watches as they scream and skitter. The question is never Will They Die? It is How Long Can They Hold Out?
Because everyone dies, sooner or later, and it's rarely at the hands of a zombie or a Leatherface. Car accidents are far more common. Fires. Mechanical failures. The FD films make Death a snarky, sadistic force without ever showing his face. Instead, Death operates basically through three cards -- wind, gravity, and passive human interference -- and with these three things, he orchestrates the deaths of dozens and dozens of characters. These films are filled with pointless scenes of people screaming that they're in control of their lives, scoffing at the idea that Death lurks everywhere. Then they die.
The real fun in these films lies in the complex machinations that Death sets in motion with the leak of a pipe or the flutter of a bird. If you're expecting interesting plots, complex characters, or realistic dialogue, prepare to be HEAVILY disappointed. In fact, these elements of the films get steadily more and more wooden and cartoonish, until by the fourth installment, they are laughably bad. The makers know that what you're really waiting for is to watch Death do his thing, investing everything from quarters to fishsticks with a sinister menace. To that end, I have provided here a summary of the only thing about each of these films that is worth watching: the death scenes.
Final Destination (New Line Platinum Series): In the first film, Death's premonition is visited upon a young student on a plane. The ensuing plane accident (5/5) gave me nightmares for a week. When the student leaves the plane along with others, he then experiences more premonitions (most of them cheesy reflections in windows) indicating that Death is now hunting them down. Of all the movies, this one features the most personified version of Death. A dark mist accompanies each death, and you can even see Death pursuing some characters, especially in a tense bathroom scene (4/5). Some of the deaths feature complex sequences of domino-like chains (there is a catastrophic house fire (4/5) and a menacing electrical storm (4/5)). Others are less creative (the bus and train accidents are both unimaginative throwaways (2/5)). The final death (by sign) is a cheeky nod at the movie's premise (4/5). Notable in this film: Death has a soundtrack, which turns out to feature, over and over again, "Leaving on a Jet Plane."
FINAL DESTINATION 2: Death isn't so hung up on music this time around, but that's okay because he's a bit more creative. This film's opening highway accident is by far the best beginning out of any of these films (5/5), and when the storyline later ties the survivor's lives to the events of the first film, it's actually interestingly done. Not as interesting as the deaths, though. You've got a tongue-in-cheek apartment fire (4/5), a crushing visit to the dentist (4/5), and an unusually persistent elevator (3/5). In one case, the jaws of life have the opposite function (4/5), and in another case a flying fence executes a mortal ballet (5/5). There are also three explosive deaths that are a little cheap (2/5). The characters this time around all get premonitions (again, mostly just false reflections in windows), and they spend a lot of pointless time trying to cheat Death's plan (their ideas mostly centering around a "new life"). The final scene, just as in the first film, is an over-the-top nyuck-nyuck moment. "It's all in fun," Death seems to be saying.
Final Destination 3: This time around it's a roller coaster catastrophe (4/5). The movie has a creative idea by putting the premonitions into poorly shot yearbook photos, and Death continues to get up in people's faces with ominous/ironic songs and smug little omens (before one death, characters at a drive-in watch as the word "control" disappears from the digital menu). The first "catch-up" death in a tanning salon is perhaps the best of the film (5/5), although there's a nicely intricate set-up later in the film that involves a nail-gun (5/5). A runaway truck and horse and a falling sign constitute some of the film's weaker executions (2/5, 3/5, and 2/5, respectively). Elsewhere in the film, the movie's token "I'm Gonna Live Forever!" character battles death in a weight room (4/5). The movie concludes with an intense subway scene that is kinda cool, but also sort of a rip off as far as endings go. (4/5)
The Final Destination [Theatrical Release]: The opener here is the weakest of the franchise. It takes place at a racing track, and so all of the subtle connections and coincidences get lost in the sprawling chaos of the catastrophe (3/5). The premonitions this time around are ridiculously aggressive hallucinations, and they forecast some rather uncreative demises. One man is murdered by a tow truck in a way that almost makes sense (1/5). Another character bites it at a hair salon in a rather unsatisfying fashion (2/5). There's a clever little two-fer where two characters simultaneously battle watery deaths, although both are almost too cartoonish to be all that scary (4/5 - car wash; 3/5 - swimming pool). The movie's real saving grace (aside from the 3D, which does its job without much fuss) is it's final theater/mall debacle, which is witty, self-referential, and fairly intense (5/5). The close of the movie (and, ostensibly, the franchise) is an unceremonious vehicular accident that is only notable for the X-ray vision it is finally shot in.』
(Death's Default Design) 『How does one follow a surprise low-budget smash? In Hollywood, when that makes a boatload of money, you make a sequel. In the case of Final Destination, you clone it. Two years after the original, a whole new batch of teens and an adult or two narrowly miss kissing Death on the lips when one of them has a premonition. This time, it's a calamitous multi-vehicle pileup on an expressway, filmed with violent collision force. The premonition gets Mr Reaper all p-o'd and he comes back for round two.
Did you see the first? Then you have a good idea where "Final Destination 2" will go. Ali Larter is back for a significant role as the counselor to the new crew of the walking dead. The cast of actors is the usual bunch of relative unknowns, so what you're really watching for is the creative kill scenes. FD2 delivers in that division, even with some bizarrely bent bits of humor. The plot is boilerplate (as is Final Destination 3) and you get to play with the tension. Beach Blanket Reaper Bingo? Sure. It may be the lowest of the three movies (first, third then second), but if this is your way to waste your time on a weekend, it will be fun.』 『Final Destination 2begins with a well-orchestrated multicar pileup on a freeway--a horrifying accident that turns out to be a premonition, as seen by a young woman (A.J. Cook) who saves herself and several other people by blocking a freeway on-ramp. Thus, as in the firstFinal Destination, a prescient vision disrupts the destined plans of death, and death goes to extreme lengths to correct matters. What makesFinal Destination 2entertaining is that the characters can only survive by learning to recognize the signs of impending doom--and the signs are basically the cinematic foreshadowing that moviemakers use to invoke suspense. This, combined with some elaborately complicated and gruesome deaths, fosters a ghoulish humor that's more entertaining than the smirky self-referentiality ofScream.Final Destination 2doesn't aspire to be a great movie, but trash has its pleasures. Also featuring Ali Larter as the only survivor of the first movie.--Bret Fetzer』

When a child is born, his/her parents can opt for a pricey implant, called a Zoe, which fits in the child's head and will record every second of the child's life right up to the moment of death. Now this concept has a myriad of possibilities to alter society and the way that people can or dare to interact with each other. However, director Naim chooses to avoid these wider psycho-social implications to focus on a standard thriller of industrial espionage. This tightening of focus works since Naim wanted to entertain the viewer without morphing the film into a "message" medium that might have emerged as insufferably pedantic. Robin Williams is Alan Hakman, whose job is to edit or "cut" a lifetime of memories into a handy movie-length summary suitable for viewing at funerals. I was mildly surprised that no one in the movie seemed to find a use for such an implant. Each person would be an infallible lie detector. Juries would have no trouble assessing a defendant's guilt. Hakman works under enormous pressure. There are many protestors who violently oppose what he does on moral grounds. The several vignettes that show these protestors reminded me of leftists who think nothing of violating the rights of others with curses and beatings to exercise their own rights of free expression. Further, Hakman daily has to edit out the unsavory aspects of his deceased client, thus forcing him to see evil up close and personal, and then delete the offending scene only to have to go home to wrestle with his conscience. Williams portrays Hakman as a tightly wound up individual who has his own demons of memory to contend with. Mira Sorvino is his lover who cares for him but only just so far since his job erects a massive wall of social static that bars true intimacy. Jim Caveziel is a former "cutter" who tries to strongarm Hakman into giving him access to a recorded memory that if exposed will topple the entire industry of re-memorizing.
FINAL CUT uses a constant series of claustrophobic scenes that intensify the torment that is right there on the viewing screen of a recorded memory. The technology involved does not seem that far fetched, but viewer interest does not lie in that. We watch movies like FINAL CUT because it is full of quirky characters, none of whom is truly evil, but all of whom are torn in deciding what is right, not what is the path of least resistance. FINAL CUT forces us to conclude that life's precious memories must not be hawked for sale, but deserve a silent and private contemplation that has no place for a public forum.』
(The shape of our memories) 『In the future, no one wealthy enough to afford a Zoe implant will be able to forget. With the Rememory Project and the Zoe Ocular Implant, every memory a person has is stored.
Cutters, like Alan Hackman (Robin Williams) take these stored images and create a life-tape of the person's memories for the family to immortalize the decedent. Obviously, these memories require some editing -- and some more than others. As the group of protesters say, "You take murderers and turn them into saints."
When Hackman gets a controversial job, he sees a man in the memories of another than he needs to find and ends up uncovering more about the job and himself than he ever cared to. This is a fascinating look at people's lives, particularly the man who assembles their memorials.

(The title implies a good editor, and doesn't deliver) 『Unfortunately, this movie is poorly edited and the plot is revealed in an unintuitive order. The cinematography is great, and the color scheme looks well thought out. Williams delivers the same performance he does in One Hour Photo, a decidedly good movie, and so there's some tedium to the method of his acting here.
In a movie about cutting and editing and rearranging memories, I question the to choice to name any character, especially the protagonist, Hackman. I laughed out loud every time I heard it. I could not take seriously the film's variation on the Big Brother theme: If someone could watch your life through your eyes and you still did the same good and terrible things throughout your life time, just as people do today, what is the point of the film's premise? What is so significant about systematic surveillance if human behavior remains status quo?
You aren't missing much if you miss this film. And if you did mistakenly watch it, you may want to have the time you spent watching the film cut from your memory.』
(CAN'T SAY I LIKED IT) 『Something is missing in this movie - something just doesn't "gel". Robin Williams has played some amazing roles - such as in What Dreams May Come (perhaps his best movie/performance ever). This movie was more along the lines of 1 Hr Photo. But the topic was too big, the "science" too outlandish. The concept of an implant that remembers everything you see in life - so the family left behind after you die can preserve certain memories - is quite frankly ridiculous. It's a fundamentally stupid idea, a stupid concept, and I think that's where the movie fails - right from the very premise. The performances are OK. Williams is very good as usual. Sorvino was good - though aged terribly in this movie. Some of the other acting was downright terrible. The fat little kid who played a young Williams was just annoying - but maybe he was supposed to be. But again, the problem here is not with the actors, but the script. The whole memory implant concept is so unrealistic, so stupid, that it puts the whole movie beyond belief. So even though there are some good moments in the movie - it's like building a house on a weak foundation. The whole movie fails because the foundation (the premise) is so weak.』
(Be sure your sins will find you out.) 『Alan Hakman (Robin Williams) has the world's worst job. Set in the future, he operates a business that is responsible for "editing" the memories of rich, dead executive-types who's families want their memories to digitally be replayed during their funeral ceremonies. Some offer as much as $500,000 to Hakman for his services, and the sum of money is typically predicated on just how many skeletons the recently expired loved-ones had in their overpriced closets, and just how good a job he does at "cutting" those memories.
Hakman is himself no saint. A tragedy from his own childhood still haunts him and drives him to border-line paranoia. He is unsure of how this past episode actually happened, but is quite certain he was directly responsible for the incident, at least in his own mind. When Hakman discovers that one of his clients has hired him to erase certain memories of her dead husband in order to essentially expunge his dark involvement with their pre-teen daughter, Hakman's own personal ghosts come howling back to confront him and besiege him with questions on whether he should continue to dissolve certain memories of these shady dead men in order to continue making a living by splicing their memories and making them appear almost saintly.
This was a completely original and very entertaining film. Jim Caviezel and Mira Sorvino co-star. I recommend this film to anyone desiring an original plot with a highly-engrossing storyline. 』 『While it works better as a somber mood piece than a futuristic thriller,The Final Cutposits a unique what-if scenario that some viewers will find fascinating. In a role that calls for his low-keyOne Hour Photopersona, Robin Williams plays an expert "cutter" who's in demand for his ability to distill anyone's lifetime into a feature-length "rememory" film that highlights the better side of anyone's nature. His profession is made possible by the "Zoe" chip, a prenatal brain implant capable of recording a person's entire lifetime--a technology opposed by a former cutter (Jim Caviezel) and puzzled over by Williams' on-and-off girlfriend (Mira Sorvino). First-time writer-director Omar Naim divided critics with his impressive visual style and lackluster screenplay, which fails to account for the larger implications of the Zoe chip's exploitation. Still, the film contains several intriguing ideas that place it among other sci-fi films likeGattaca, suggesting one of the many potential controversies that await us in a future where ethics and technology are not always compatible.--Jeff Shannon』 『Its a compelling fable that offers a vision of a world where memory implants record all moments in a persons life. (Awesome Cloud Strife Wall Hanging) 『When I saw the other good reviews for this product, I went ahead and purchased it. I was so satisfied when it arrived, the pictures do not give it justice. It looks so amazing and I love the fact that it is fabric. It doesn't glare like a normal poster and it looks so much better in my opinion. Hanging it was extremely easy, one nail does the trick. I highly recommend this to any Final Fantasy fan.』
(Cloud Strife wall scroll) 『This is a great addition to any room in your house. The detail in the print is very clear and detailed. The fabric is durable and the colors are beautiful. And the emotion on Cloud's face in this picture is just painful. I absolutely love it. Weither you're a casual FF fan, or a fanatic, this wall scroll will be a great addition to your home.』
(WOW!!!) 『i am the first to admit, i do not like ff7. i did however enjoy Advent Children, even though cloud gets on my nerves. none of that takes away from this amazing product. the scroll is HUGE and is a great deal for the money. not to mention the fact that it looks great as well. if you want something a little different hanging on your wall, give this a shot.』
(Really Great) 『I got this cause Cloud is definatly one of my favorite characters of the FF games, and i saw the online picture and thought it was nice, but really it didnt do it justice, I got this, opened it and was shocked at the quality, its like a perfect portrait, down to the finest details. Im glad I got this and if your wondering if you should or not, Id recommend it, I usually dont write reviews, but this was a pleasant surprise, so it definatly earned one.』 『BRAND NEW』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Bahamut) 『Again, the coloring is very well done on this figure, a great representation of the GF from FF VIII. Not posable, but a beautiful addition to a FF collection.』 『The Bahamut sculpture, done in both opaque and semi-translucent portions, will stand 6 tall. This is the FFVIII version of Bahamut. Mounted above jagged crystal shards and flight swirls, the naturally-armored dragon is roughly anthropoid, the body almost dwarfed by the encompassing dimensions of the talon-tipped arch-ribbed wings. The head, joined with a serpentine neck, is thrust upward with a scintillating burst of fire discharging from the muzzle. Depending on a particular incarnation, the Bahamut will usually require a demonstration of power in order to lend his services. In the case of this version of Bahamut, the dragon will only join the cause once the heroes have proven themselves worthy. The incendiary Bahamut entity varies somewhat in level of power, but universally hes one of the strongest monsters in the Summon arsenal. The FFVIII Bahamut is based in the devastating Mega Flare attack.』

I've read them all (not always in order). This follows up Soz's days in the academy as a Jagernaut cadet and it doesn't disappoint. I enjoyed the other parts of the story that bring members of the Ruby Dynasty together in an often tumultuous turn of events when the Traders attack various Skolian outposts. Particularly interesting is Soz's brother Eldrin's downward spiral into drug abuse and the situation that forces him to go cold-turkey and quit, amidst war. Asaro's strong female characters are a welcome breath of fresh air and it's nice to see that the male characters aren't emasculated in any way. I did notice that all of her strong, beautiful, commanding females have black hair (like the author). Soz's mother Roca has metallic hair but it seems that there aren't any strong, beautiful commanding redheads or blondes in the Skolian universe. This (tongue-in-cheek)item aside, this book is great. I hope Catherine Asaro keeps on plugging away and churning out these books 'cause I love them and I'm waiting (impatiently) for "The Ruby Dice" to be available. Read this!』
(Ready for More!) 『I turned my 16-year-old grandniece on to the Skolian world this summer...she loved it! As do I. However, I do wonder when Asaro's publisher is going to collect all those miscellaneous short stores in the series into one volume -- I'd like to read them to help complete the big story. In the meantime, I am awaiting the next novel in the series.』
(A prequel and a sequel all in one) 『"The Final Key" is not only the sequel to "Schism"; it's also the prequel to "Primary Inversion," the book that launched Ms. Asaro's Skolian Empire series.
Here, Soz is just about finished with her cadet training when the Eubians manage to sabotage the Skolian defenses and create chaos.
A suspenseful and well paced battle scene is the centerpiece of the book, and a suspenseful and excruciating battle with drug addiction serves as a great B story. As is usually the case with Catherine Asaro, she makes her characters seem like real people, and maybe you'll relate to Soz's fears as circumstances force her to assume a role she's not yet qualified to fill, and the struggles of Eldrin to free himself from his addiction.
As a sequel, the book finishes the tale begun in "Schism" very neatly, but as a prequel, some of the suspense is lost, because longtime readers know what will happen to the various Skolians down the line.
Newcomers to the series obviously should not start here, but either with "Primary Inversion" or "Schism." (A time line at the back of the book will guide those new readers.)
Notes and Asides. To Ms. Asaro: can we have more about the Blue Dale Archers, please? To Ms. Asaro's publisher: can we please have the short stories, doubtlessly all published in different places, that are mentioned in the timeline in a one- or two-volume collection? Thanks.』
(Another great Skolian Empire tale--) 『Asaro's combination of physics, military, romance and space opera still pleases in this eleventh tale of the Skolian Empire. She's filling in parts of her history in the Triad books, which can almost seem a re-hash of previous events, but if you love her characters it is well worth reading. Triad takes place before the events of previous books. In this installment, trouble flares again between the Empire and the Eubians, who have incapacitated Kurj, the Military Key of the Empire through an attempted assassination, and have launched a surprise attack--putting nearly all the members of the Ruby Dynasty in peril: Soz, who is still a cadet, but on her first battle-cruiser, her mother Roca--captured by Eubians, her brother Eldrin--in the city under attack and beset by his own demons. I think I'd prefer reading about what happens to characters she hasn't written about yet, but I can read Asaro's books all day, any day--so whatever she wants to write about is welcome.』
(Amazing book....) 『Filling in the slight holes of Soz's training and Shannon's knowledge of Lyshroil, this book is a great asset to the series. You see much more of Eldrin in this book as well. You get to see how one of the Ruby Dynasty fathers acts towards their young children. The first bit was a little slow because of the filling in for those who haven't read the first book, but after a bit, it was just pure reading pleasure. I'd recommend reading Schism first, but after reading Schism, this book is a must!』 『
Catherine Asaro has won numerous awards for her Saga of the Skolian Empire novels, including the Nebula Award and twoRomantic Timesawards for Best SF Novel. Combining cutting edge scientific theory with grand romantic adventure, this series represents space opera at its finest. The Final Keyis the second half of the story arc known asTriad, which began inSchism.Schismended with the Skolian Empire torn asunder by personal conflict within the royal family. WithThe Final Key, the Skolian Empire comes under all-out assault from its nemesis, the Euban Concord, who have undermined the Empire via subterfuge and assassination, leaving it ripe for conquest. The Skolian Empire's only hope? A young woman barely out of her teens who hasn't even complete her training as a cadet.

(The Classics) 『This game is one of the great classics remade. It's old style meets the new system. For anybody else who may have played the original or even the Playstation remakes, this game is an upgrade. From the original NES and Famicom systems the graphics have taken a HUGE jump, with revamped animations, sprites, and backgrounds. The music has been completely revamped as well while keeping the original scores.
Gameplay quirks have been fixed as well, purchasing items isn't such a pain anymore allowing you to see who can equip what, and if it's actually better than what you currently have. It also allows you to buy in bulk. Rather than buying 1 item at a time you may now buy in 10s. If you played the originals you know how awful it was buying one antidote at a time till you had 30 or so.
Overall, you'll like this game if you like the old ones. It's old school %100. If you like that, it's a must have, if not, don't try.』
(FF1&2) 『FF1 is a classic. I had played it on an emulator recently, but the revamp of the magic system, along with the other changes really made gameplay a lot more smooth and exciting. I thought it was great.
FF2 wasn't my cup of tea. I played it for about 4 hours and got annoyed by the "level up" system. It is an exciting concept, to level up specific categories like magic, or weapons, all the way down to specific spells and hp levels even. But it still seemed like it was hiding linear growth that i couldn't break free from. For example HP levels of the char that started out as a "white mage" went up much more slowly even though I put her in the front row with a sword and shield, to take all the hits and my "fighter" who i put in the back row casting black magic still managed to outpace her hp "levels".
Basically I didn't feel like the characters were a blank slate for me to guide their growth however I wanted. I felt like I had to make all of them homogenous fighter/casters with the ability to use weapons, and do black and white magic, otherwise certain bosses were impossible to defeat.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll go back and play it one day to see the storyline through. As Final Fantasy's go this is one of my least favorite.
FF1 remake: awesome, FF2 remake:good look and feel, just not my favorite.』
(Wait, what?) 『Full disclosure: Despite attempts at playing everything from Fallout to Diablo, Final Fantasy is the only pure RPG series I like that isn't made by Spiderweb Software. Something in me just recoils at, say, aiming perfectly at an enemy and finding out I missed because of a low Dexterity score, or grinding the same battle twenty or thirty times to up my level. Final Fantasy generally gets around this by providing such a great plotline I'll suffer through tedious battles to find out what happens next. The original Final Fantasy, however, can't properly be said to have a plot--the world is "decaying," and four generic heroes are off to save it by killing four "fiends" in battles that generally require spamming the same attacks over and over again with no regard for (or even room for) tactical creativity. (This was apparently quite technically advanced at the time it was made, but seems rather less impressive in the days of Bioshock/Crysis/whatever they've come up with now.) FFII does have a plot, but it bears a strong resemblance to the plot of Star Wars, complete with Vader and the Death Star. The inventive levelling system makes combat somewhat more entertaining, until you discover that dual-wielding makes you stop levelling, using two shields does weird things to your HP development, casting spells outside of combat will increase the spell level (and hence MP cost) but not count towards improving your MP total, etc. Seriously, what are you all seeing in these games that I'm not?』
(Great) 『I have purchased alot from this site and I am happy to know that I can trust Amazon.com. I am happy with the game that I purchased, for my son. He doesn't want to put it down. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (LOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGG) 『Well this game is not what i would call exactly an easy game. It is chalked full of missions quests enemies to kill and general wonders. The game is beautifully detailed and some of the hard to reach area's are a visual wonder. As an mmorpg ffxi gives you basically a open world to explore with probably over 100 maps that are richly detailed and time consuming to explore. This game can easily take away countless hours of your time without you knowing the time past.
Gameplay
Gameplay is based on cooperation. It is very rare that an individual can go out on their own and complete tasks. Most of the game requires a minimum of another person or a group of 6-18 ppl to complete. As the game progresses and you get further along in xp and lvls the high end tasks require multiple uninterrupted hours with 12 or more members. Usually the rewards are totally random and you are not garanteed anything. Most of the high end items drop maybe once and everyone there wants it so its a toss up on who gets the item which usually is rewarded to the person that plays the game the most and helps out the most. If you are a person with limited time to play its hard to get rewarded correctly.
Controls
On the xbox i would not recommend playing this game without a usb keyboard. Tried it once and it was horrible trying to type without it. Once you have a keyboard the game plays well and is perfectly detailed. Without a keyboard you will be completely miserable so dont do it to yourself.
Graphics
Simply stunning! You see the sun rise and set. The moon rise and set. Ocean waves crash at your feet as you run in the sand. Ghosts haunt you in mines. Tornados touch down in the deserts. Lightning strikes in the backround. You get the idea.
Replayablility
Its end game there is always something to do. Many hours can be spent just doing one thing. You will spend hundreds of hours getting one character to max level with full caped xp traits.
Price
12.95 a month with an extra 1 per character you make past the main.
Value
Once you dish out the money for the game and pay for the keyboard its still below an average xbox game. It pays for itself over time. If you play it a lot and dont mind the monthly fee then it can keep ya home instead of going to the movies etc.
True to past ff games
Yes and no! It has the ffxi feel with jobs you can play like blackmage whitemage Warrior. It makes you feel that you must work as a team like true ff games. Missions are very in depth and have a long backstory. It falls behind on some things like summoning. The pets are while pretty not as we have seen in the past. Weaponskills or limit breaks are pretty eh. Most of the time you wont realize you activated a weaponskill they are that unnoticable. Limit breaks or 2 hours are what they are called do exactly what they say. Take 2 hours to get a new one. Each job has a different 2 hour some are ok like redmage gets chainspell which allows it to cast spells over and over again with no cool off time or casting time. Some are terrible where for example samurai gets to do 3 weaponskills at a time instead of one.
Anyway i give this game a 4/5 for fun because when you first start there is nothing like it the game is just amazing. The point off is for it limiting you to have to party.
Overall i give it a 3 since it is a bit old you have to pay for it a month and it gets really tiresome doing the 3-4 hour events on a regular basis.

(Solid game with beyond poor platform support) 『Well after playing FF11 on the PC for its first few years and coming back to it in the past week the physical game itself is certainly improved for anybody starting out fresh in the world of FF11.
However because of a large dashboard update to the Xbox 360 Platform many months ago its apparently put FF11 into a MAJOR state of shock... there are serious issues that have made me close my account within five days and that are completely unrelated to the solid, physical gameplay...
Installation takes a little over an hour and the update, a few hours more (Give or take 4 hours on cable internet).
You MUST Log Out of FF11, log out of the play online viewer and CLOSE play online viewer from within itself. If you EVER shutdown your console from within the game itself OR the playonline menu OR use quickmenu to switch to anther game without selecting close from the login screen, your entire game is corrupted!
EVERY time this happens you are forced to reformat the ENTIRE HARD DRIVE!!! Thats right, 3 calls to technical support and that is the "solution"... more like contingency plan... If you happen to have two complete xbox 360 consoles there are ways to TRICK it into showing you the error message thats blocking you but most of us have a single system.
Further more, the game is not on your games list, its stored in cache which means that if you go to clear the system cache it will corrupt your copy of FF11 also prompting another reformat.
There was no forewarning of this at any time during installation. After experiencing 4 hours, I logged out of the game. At the POL menu, logged out of that, then used my controller to power down the system. After coming home from campus today it throws legions of Disc Read Errors at you which are NOT disc read errors. This is a problem documented all over the place on the internet.
This is also not a problem you can fully control. During a garrison the system locked up on me after the first reformat (as well as a few other random times) and since you didn't exit through the play online viewer... here goes another 5 hours...
This is reformat 5, every time I talk to their customer support I get total bull... Its a complete shame that such a solid game is destroyed by lack of support from a company that I used to have extremely high regards for in which now has given me some of the worst customer service of my life.
DO NOT buy this game for the XBOX 360 System EVER! Buy it for the PC or the Playstation. If you happen to have a second Xbox 360 console lying around, then by all means give it a shot. Outside of that extreme technical block, the controls worked solid and there were ZERO issues outside of this. But an issue this big and time consuming destroys any likely hood of advancing in such an immense game.』
(Great Game, Some Problems) 『I bought two copies for two of my sons. They love the game, but had issues with disc read problems. This game has its own log in and log out screen. If you just log out using the microsoft screen it can create corrupted files. The next time you try to sign in, you get a message that the program cannot read the disc or that there are corrupted files. The solution that worked for us is to reformat the hard drive and install the game to the hard drive. That includes installing the POL (Player on line) sign in and out part of the game program. Since installing to the Hard Drive, my sons have had no problems, even when there was a power outage while they were playing.
Other that that problem, my sons love the game and play it regularly. I am not thrilled that it costs them about $14 a month to play the game. If they create another character, it is an additional couple of dollars per month.』
(Final Fantasy) 『Overall, it's a great game, but it something to get used to at first. Setup is is easy as long as you read and go by the directions. But if I was you, don't stop the loading till it finishes, or else it won't let you play the game or download it. That would definitely be a waste. Otherwise, Read the instructions and you should be okay with it.』
(The "setup game" game...) 『I've played this game before, and have enjoyed - the price being much lower these days has brought back my interest. My biggest complaint is the 3 hour long setup process. If you don't have a USB keyboard to plug into your XBox 360, steer clear! You will have to enter your address twice, through their horribly developed proprietary "PlayOnline" interface. This process is not for the faint of heart, or the easily agitated (I am the later of the two). Once you get into the game, well, it's what you expect - nothing special, another way to avoid talking to people in RL.
If the next game goes through this "PlayOnline" junk, then it is off my list! Just when you think you are done, WHAM! another download and setup screen!』 『The Crystal War has ravaged the land of Vana'diel. Three solitary nations are now all that remain in the desperate fight for survival against the forces of the relentless beastman. A call is put forth for new heroes to join the fight.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The best in the series so far!) 『I like it!!!! It is one of the best RPG games I have played so far. I like most the whole new battle syatem, and the combination of different moves. The world designes is unbelievablly good. Beatiful graphics and Music, voice casting. It worths to buy this collective edition with metal case. It will be part of your best memory(for me too).』
(The Bar raises again) 『Having Been a fan of the series since number 7, I have been constantly amazed at how Square has set the gold standard for RPG games with each iteration. The graphics for FFXII are stunning and the gameplay is as always innovative and easy to learn. Character development is very organic and easily tailored to your playing style. The plot is pretty simple and a little less than engaging but the sheer volume of side quests and optional content makes this game more than worth the money. I highly suggest buying the strategy guide to make sure you get all you can from the game.』
(The Best Just Got Better) 『This is simply my favorite game ever. It is so good, that I think that even when Final Fantasy XIII comes out (and it looks AMAZING), I will still like XII the best. My favorite cast of characters from any work of fiction (game, book, or movie) is combined with the most dramatic storyline and the most breathtaking locations you will visit throughout the game. The characters are so likeable and developed so well that you will feel genuinely for them. If you love RPGs, you will get emotional at certain parts of the story.
Add to this the new, improved battle system. It has the best battle system of any RPG (people liked it so much, Square Enix is basing the battle system of XIII on it. YAY!). The days of random encounters and turn-based combat is over. It is replaced by real-time combat where different actions and different weapons take different amounts of time to use.
I loved Final Fantasy X (it is my second-favorite game), but I didn't like it that you really couldn't customize your characters very much. In XII, you can equip characters any way you want to. You can choose from different types of armor that give you different kinds of bonuses, whether it be for speed, magic power, or simply great protection. There are many different kinds of weapon classes to choose from, too, like longswords, axes/hammers, bows, spears, greatswords, poles, rods, muzzleloading guns, crossbows, maces, katanas, and others. Each gives different bonuses and take different amounts of time to use.
There are so many different things to do in this game, and you should try them all to really experience the world of Final Fantasy XII. There is, of course, the main story, but there is also dozens of mini-bosses that you are contracted to hunt down (some of which are actually much tougher to beat than the last boss in the main story). There are also many different secret things to find. To truly complete everything (or close to it), it will take you 200+ hours.
This game also has a completely new system for the overdrives (they are called "Quickenings" in this game), that I think is better than in any of the previous games. The music for all Final Fantasy games is beyond superb, but I think that XII's is even better. It is so good at conveying the emotions experienced by the characters throughout the game. There is also a summoning system (of course; it IS a Final Fantasy game). The summoning system in XII is not as good as it was in X, but then again, Final Fantasy X focused primarily on summoning. The summoning is still really fun in XII, I just didn't use it very often.
PROs: Everything. It has the BEST characters, the BEST story, the BEST locations, the BEST music, and the BEST battle system of any RPG. Even the graphics are still pretty good (and that is saying something, considering that the PS2 is now considered "last generation").
CONs: Nothing. I just wish the game would never have ended. I could have played it for the rest of my life.
The game itself is the same whether you get the regular edition or the Collectors Edition, but the Collectors Edition has a neat DVD with artwork and other cool goodies. If you already own the regular edition of this game, you probably will not want to spend another $50 for the Collectors Edition. I, however, wanted a spare copy of the game just in case my original copy would become old and unplayable, so for my second copy, I bought the Collectors Edition. If you do not own either edition of this game, but want to do so, spend a little extra money and get the Collectors Edition.
I'm not the only one who loved this game. Many of the best-regarded video game magazines and shows in Japan have said that this is the best Final Fantasy yet (and that is definitely saying something!) Famitsu, the most trusted and revered game magazine in Japan, gave it a perfect score, which has only been given to six games so far in all of video game history. It is also the first time that a Final Fantasy game got a perfect score from it (Final Fantasy X came very, very close though).
I have played this game all the way through 4 times now. I bought the regular edition first, because I didn't know that they had a Collectors Edition. I love this game so much that I bought a second PS2 (still in the box, never opened) and a second copy of the game (this time the Collectors Edition, never opened), just so that in case my original PS2 and original copy of the game wear out, I will still be able to play this game many years from now. Also, this game is playable on most versions of the PS3. 』
(Final Fantasy XII Not Online) 『Final Fantasy XII has basically everything all the others do, with a MMO twist in gameplay. More or less if you like MMO's you will probably have a plast playing this. Thumbs Up.』
(Final Fantasy XII was just missing that little extra) 『My first final fantasy experience came with the release of final fantasy VII and even then I didn't play it until it came in the playstation greateset hits version. I have played all the final fantasy's up to this one and was left with a feeling that the game was missing something. I enjoyed everything about this game and the story a lot but the lack of a love interest for the main character really left me unconnected to Vaan. So here is my review....
Combat System: I absolutely loved this system as it made the enemy encounters very fun and I was not annoyed to get into fights with everything on the screen. I've played to many "western" rpg's now and the idea of random battles now annoys me. So seeing your enemy on the screen and being able to avoid them if you want is very nice. A lot of the reviews complain about the gambit system in boss battles because of micro-managing. Well, I personally like to take more control over the battles when fighting a boss, I mean lets face it, if I'm fighting a boss and I don't have to do anything then there is no fun in it for me. You can still leave a few gambits active and if you take the time you can set up some that will aid you in your fight so you don't have to worry about them. I kept protectra, shellra, float and float on gambits during the whole game after I acquired them. Also, when you run around in the game you slowly gain your mp back so there is little need for resting and elixers unless you're in a crazy boss battle.
Storyline: I thought the storlyine was a nice change in the mix of things and instead of being a little out there it was a nice subtle story. It comes down to your group of characters stopping an evil force but instead of saving the world its more of them just saving their country. I was dissapointed in the lack of a love story between the main hero and heroine. That detatched me a lot from the main character and made him feel like just another party memeber in the group. My favorite characters were Ashe, Fran and Balthier and I cared very little about Vaan. On the bright side I liked the fact that he wasn't whiny and annoying half the time (Cloud and Squall).
Jobs: Maybe I'm to old school but I really do miss the preset job system of the earlier years. I missed the mages and warrior classes of yesteryear. I did not like final fantasy X's and I don't like final fantasy XII's lack of job system. Truthfully only final fantasy IX's (not using XI because its an mmorpg and you can still make your character do any job) job system has appealed to me since VII. The fact that any character can do any job makes them less important in the group and you can if you want only use three characters to go through the whole game. It makes it very hard to keep leveling up the other characters when you seem to be doing the exact same thing for every character. Yes, in the begining of the game you do focus on who is going to use magic and who is going to be a hitter but halfway through the game that all goes away and any character can now be a warrior or mage which takes out some of the tactical fighting in the game itself.
Characters: Like mentioned before I cared very little for Vaan and also Panelo. I leaned more towards Ashe, Fran and Bashe more than Vaan and Panelo (I don't even think Panelo has a backstory in the game) which is sad because in a game where you're introduced to who will be the main charater is, you want to like that person and have a feeling of some sort of attatchment to them. Without a love story or a really good background on Vaan I thought Ashe was more the main character and Vaan was just another party member.
Side quests: Man, there are a ton of side quests which can make putting in over 100 hours easy in this game. They have a "hunt" quest, which you go to taverns all around the world where people have posted up flyers looking for someone to kill these monsters. Its a good way to get items and money and highly recommended to do so in the game. Some of them are really easy while others are extremely hard. You also get to join a hunter's guild and the more hunts you do the more renown you will get plus after so many the guild leader pays you extra for killing stuff not included in the hunts. Like the first demon wall for example, I didn't know that the leader would know about or care about it but you get some money for killing it. I was an extremely low level when I fought it and spent a whole Saturday just trying to kill it, I could've leveled up and then beat it but it was much more fun and challenging to try to beat it at a level I wasn't supposed to. Like I said there are tons of sidequests in the game to keep you going and most of them are fun.
Bonus Disc: I was very dissapointed in the bonus disc, it seemed like it was just thrown together with little care. The history of the final fantsy series is summed up in less than 15 minutes and the interviews seemed boring to me. I did enjoy the art gallery but I would've liked to have seen more. The metal case was alright but wasn't that big of deal. So if you haven't bought this game and are planning on it, just save the 10 or so extra dollars and buy the regular one.
The game itself is an overall enjoyment to play and with the many side quests keeps you very busy during the whole game. I think the main fault is the lack of story for Vaan who is, and is easily forgotten, the main character in the game. The lack of a love interest and the ending of the game was a grave dissapointment. The graphics and the detailed characters and fun fighting system make this game well worth playing. The bonus disc was a waste but if you want it that bad buy it. I give this final fantasy a 4 out of what should have been an easy 5.』
