(Amazingly Arranged, Played Like a Robot)
『The FF7 Piano Collections are amazingly arranged! There is so much subtlety to them - it's really amazing how much of the originals come through in the piano, plus a bit.

However, many of the songs sound like a computer is playing them. The arrangements may be incredible, but the playing is dull and mechanical. Two that stand out are Ahead On Our Way and One Winged Angel (which is also played slowly - much of the energy is lost).

The disk is still lovely and I'm very appreciative for the arrangements that came out of this which OTHER more interpretive, emotional, or talented pianists have taken up and recorded (although often with poor audio quality) Sigh. Nothing's perfect.』

(Love it)
『it is freaking awesome. every time i put it in, its like im playing the game all over again. one winged angel is the only one that sounds kinda off because youve lost the flutes and violins but its still good. 100% worth it』

(A nice collection for my favorite FF game)
『First off, the Amazon track listing is incorrect. This album contains 13 tracks:

1. Tifa's Theme
2. Main Theme
3. Cinco de Chocobo
4. Ahead on our way
5. Fight Music
6. Cosmo Canyon
7. Gold Saucer
8. Farm boy
9. Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony
10. J-E-N-O-V-A
11. Aeris' Theme
12. One Winged Angel
13. Descendant of Shinobi

The album, as its title suggests, contains piano arrangements of all of these tracks which were present in the Final Fantasy VII game. Many are played at a slightly slower pace, and the tracks only contain piano, no other instruments.

As a result, some of the tracks really change either their sound or their impact. Others are very fitting for a piano, like Aeris' Theme.

Overall, this is an interesting collection. Chances are, if you're willing to shell out $40 for one CD, my opinion probably doesn't matter to you. I'd recommend other Nobuo Uematsu or Yasunori Mitsuda works before this one for the average person, but if you can't get enough FFVII music, this is a good addition to your collection.』

(Well, really it's about three-and-a-half)
『I hadn't bought any Final Fantasy music for a fair while, and had been contemplating buying this. Eventually, I came through and bought it. It turned out so-so. It has only thirteen tracks, and the total time is not as impressive as it could be. These thirteen tracks contain some very impressive, excellent FFVII material, but then there are the drawbacks.
Tracks 4 and 8 are utterly dull, and so were their originals. I think these should have been left out of this collection, and substituted with such songs as the "Opening/Bombing Mission" or "Those Who Fight Further."
That aside, these are usually very enjoyable pieces. Sometimes they don't retain enough of the original song, as is the case with "J-E-N-O-V-A," but I don't count this as much.
The main piece a lot of people probably wonder about is "One-Winged Angel." Well, it still dominates! It is played at a rather slow tempo, which leaves one wondering what it's like at full speed, but it is still grandioso and evil, especially at the end. It sounds almost like a full orchestea and choir with its power and malevolence!
This collection is worth what it costs, but it certainly has drawbacks. I would still recommend buying it as a Final Fantasy devotee.』

(Unlimited stories from Final Fantasy)
『The music you find on this soundtrack is the music used in the background for the episodes of "Final Fantasy: Unlimited".

If you enjoy the FF series of videogames, you'll enjoy the anime. Unfortunately it was cut short towards the end of the season, so they hurried through the story in the last few episodes.

Here's a synopsis of the ANIME series:

The show is about Ai and Yu, two twelve year-old twins who travel into Wonderland, a mysterious parallel dimension, in search of their missing parents. Along the way they meet many strange new characters and travel to exotic lands in pursuit of their quest. All the while, the evil Earl Tyrant is holding the twins' parents hostage, and has had them brainwashed into working on his side to help him become more powerful. Tyrant desires to consume every world outside Wonderland, other worlds like our own, to become the ultimate power in the universe.

Can the twins and their friends, Lisa, Kaze and the forces of the Comodeen, stop the Earl and save their parents and the rest of the universe? Only time, and the next twenty-five action-packed episodes of FF:U, will tell...』

(no point)
『this is probably one of the worst movies I've seen in a while, it goes really slow, has no point, and jumps around, at the end all I could think was "Wow that was a waste of time and money"』

(Good, with a few flaws)
『The Final Patient is the story of Dr. Dan, a small town doc who is rumored to have unique abilities. When a local boy gets trapped under a 6,000-pound tractor, Dr. Dan rushes to the rescue and hoists the child free. Rumors run rampant...it is here the story begins.

The two core actors, Bill Cobbs (Dr. Dan) and Jason Scott Campbell (Willy), put in very solid performances. They hold the screen during the middle act, keeping us riveted where many actors would fail. They are the glue of the movie. Because of them, you will keep watching.

The story is unique, fresh, and for the most part a joy to watch. Please remember that this a lower budget indie, so what you get is a simple, intelligently written story, as opposed to the usual Hollywood grind. This is a good thing.

I like this movie, and would watch it again. It has a few flaws, namely some herky jerky and distracting camera movements that occasionally draw you from your immersion in the film, and some horribly over-acted, over-dramatic minor actors. You will get your fair share of exaggerated facial expressions and insecure, flat dialog in the first 15 minutes. But hang in, things get much better.

Another flaw is the last scene. It didn't feel right in the movie. A mysterious butterscotch candy wrapper(s) lying on the hospital bed would have been a more suitable ending for the feel of this flick.

Please see The Final Patient. Give some love to this indie film. It deserves a viewing.』

(a campfire tale well told)
『This is one of those little gems that you love to unearth. It's a tale made for those of us not suffering from Attention Deficeit Disorder. First you start with a premise that seems unusual to say the least, a retired black doctor in a small all white town. Then the good writing, acting and direction make you believe it. You get caught up in the story and hardly notice the hairs on the back of your neck begin to stand up as you put the pieces together.』
『Retired physician daniel green has uncovered the key to eternal youth. But when two curious med students try to unravel the enigma behind his bizarre secret they soon discover that dr greens miracle comes with a horrifying price .. And a fate far worse than growing old. (Waste of Time)
『What a terrible movie! 108 minutes of my life I will never get back again! It's easy to see why this never got any theatrical release - it would have been laughed out of theaters. Why anyone would waste their time on a 5-disk set of this boring, long, empty movie is beyond my understanding. I guess sometimes style wins over substance, but in this case there was no style to redeem the movie, either. I think the shots of Chelsea Field wandering in the desert were actually reality shots - of her trying to escape the set, and get off the movie!

Beware - unless this is the first horror/thriller movie you've ever seen, unless you have never seen even a half-way decent movie before, you will be bored to death. Avoid, at all costs.』

(Strange movie with one . . .)
『Strange movie with one redeeming value - this three disc set includes 'The Secret Glory', which is the story of Otto Rohm and his pursuit of the Holy Grail - a pursuit which comes to the attention of the Third Reich leaving him with the unfortunate circumstance of receiving a recruiting offer that he can not refuse . Part Scientist, part Occultist and in no way prepared for the Politics of dealing with an Organization he can never possibly understand or comply with . He finds himself being offered the oppurtunity and financial support he never would have had on his own but with perilous strings attached . Worth buying just to get this disc . Elegantly and hauntingly filmed with an eery backdrop on screen while subtitled in English throughout (the interviews are in German, French and English but with heavy German accents - making the subtitles necessary) . This second disc in the three disc set is well worth seeing .』

(Welcome To Bethany...)
『A wayward, shape-shifting demon (Robert John Burke) does what he must to escape our material plane. What does this require? Why, serial-murder of course! Not just any kind of killing however. No, The Dust Devil must use his victims in archane rituals, where blood-letting (along w/ other body fluids) is a sacred rite. To him, we are fleshly keys to help him unlock his only means of accessing the spiritual realm. Enter Wendy (Chelsea Field), a woman who is also trying to escape something. In her case, it's her marriage, and the abuse that came w/ it. Her path will intersect with the Dust Devil's trajectory in the Namibian town of Bethany. Meanwhile, a cop named Ben (Zakes Mokae) is trying his best to do two things. One is to track down the infamous serial-killer, the other is to endure life without his long lost wife and son. These three beings- the demon, the woman, the man -will meet in a desert ghost-town in order to fulfill their destinies. DUST DEVIL is an outrageously overlooked horror masterpiece. I never tire of watching it, and highly recommend it. Richard Stanley (Hardware) has come up with a truly original and engrossing tale of life, death, and the supernatural, all played out in the barren african wastes left by generations of war. The landscape is captured beautifully, making africa seem more like the planet Mars than any earthly environment. DUST DEVIL should be owned by all horror maniacs! This one is in my top five...』

(A true hidden gem in the world of cinema.)
『The best way to describe this flick is a spaghetti western horror/fantasy set in the deserts of South Africa. It is truly amazing. The visuals and sounds are magnificent and give the film a unique feel. There is NO other film like this. All it takes is a few frames of the film to realize you are watching Dust Devil. I randomly saw this on TV while I was in the Philippines, and I was hooked. I purchased this DVD as soon as I found out there WAS a DVD! If you like horror, westerns, monster movies, and/or great movies, you owe it to yourself to see this flick!』

(Are you going to shoot me? F#@k yes!)
『This was recommended to me by my good friend and Amazon bud, Clint Bronson. He thought I would like it since I like horror movies with serial killers and (since I am a photographer), the beautiful cinematography. HE DID NOT STEER ME WRONG! This is by far one of the most visually perfect horror movies I ever saw.

The movie takes place in the wilds of South Africa. An American drifter and serial killer (Robert John Burke) takes to South Africa. He roams the desert, taking photos of his victims before he kills them in a ritualistic way. The first one he makes beautiful love to (and he, Dust Devil is quite handsome) and then snaps her neck. He then dismembers her and paints pictures on the wall with her blood and other products added to it, and simply moves on to the next victim. In the mean time, a unhappy housewife, Wendy (Chelsea Field), decides to leave her husband and find herself in the South African desert. She meets Dust Devil when she picks him up hitchhiking. Their paths cross a few times, she is taken in by him, but then finds out what he does. The rest is a journey to find just who or what Dust Devil is.

I found the cinematography to be visually perfect. Yes, this movie had gore, but was so well put together, directed and photographed that I really didn't see it as that gory. I saw it as a beautiful film.

I highly recommend this to any horror fans or fans that love excellent cinematography. This movie held my interest and definitely is one of the better horror films of modern times.

Also thanks M. for having it on your wish list, Clint might not have seen it. And Main Man thanks for reinforcing me to watch this! Again, my Amazon friends have not steered me wrong. BUY THIS MOVIE!

『As noted by Richard Stanley fans,Dust Devil, the feature following his box-office hitHardware, failed to find release, and when it did, a terrible edit drastically altered the story. Subversive Sinema has now released the director-approved final cut ofDust Devil, in a box set that also contains Dust Devil's working edit, the film's Sergio Leone-like soundtrack, and three riveting Stanley documentaries:The Secret Glory,Voice of the Moon, andThe White Darkness.Dust Devil, a horror story based on the myth of a Namibian serial killer, looks more like a Western. Filmed on location in Africa where the murders allegedly took place, Chelsea Field plays Wendy Robinson, a woman, who under duress of leaving her husband, heads out to the desert to accidentally encounter the Dust Devil (Robert John Burke), a mercy killer who slays depressed women to save them from the dark side. According to locals, the Dust Devil is a demon, enabling Stanley's abiding interest in world folk religions to weigh heavily in on the plot, especially when the town's witch doctor visits the beyond to unlock mysteries, or when the Dust Devil displays a box containing his victims' fingers. The documentaries, however, are most exciting. The White Darknessunravels political and social aspects of Haitian Voudon, including the history of American Imperialism in Haiti, as told by skilled priest and priestess, Altes Paul and Edelle.Voice of the Moonshows footage of Afghani rebels in the late '80s, sans narrator, instead beautifully accompanied by native music and poetry, adding Herzogian emotional effect. The Secret Glorypieces together the story of Otto Rahn, an SS officer who thought he'd located the Holy Grail. In all three films, the authenticity of the subjects reign, making it more difficult to buy the magic's fictionalized version inDust Devil.Dust Devil, though, with its cheesier horror moments, provides a dose of humor to a fairly serious package.--Trinie Dalton
『Subversive re-releases the highly sought-after director's cut of Dust Devil after the overwhelming success of last year's box set.Wendy (Chelsea Field; David Lynch's Hotel Room A Passion To Kill Wicked) leaves her husband taking off into the voids of Africa. She picks up a hitchhiker (Robert John Burke; Confessions of a Dangerous Mind Good Night and Good Luck Munich) a traveling Serial Killer who snaps photos of his victims before killing them. Wendy does not realize the danger she is in until a police detective (Zakes Mokae; The Comedians Gross Anatomy Waterworld) arrives to warn her that her "companion" is something much worse than just a killer he is a shape-shifting demon who steals his victims' souls. (Completely Amazing)
『When Wolf's Rain made it's original run on Cartoon Network, it was these final four episodes that I had been unable to see. But I had always wanted to see those final four episodes, so much so that I was willing to spend the hefty dollar on the Limited Complete Collection in order to get not only those last episodes, but also the first twenty-six as well. And, after finally being able to see the ending, I am completely convinced that Wolf's Rain is one of anime's standouts, standing closely next to Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion as one of the greatest series of all time.

And why do I think this? Well, namely, because of the ending. Had not I seen this, I still would have thought Wolf's Rain was a great anime, but after seeing this, I now know for sure. The series had had a lot of emotion, but in this volume, the emotions practically drip from the screen in tears of sorrow. This is one of the saddest ending I've seen on an anime, and though I hesitate to say what exactly happened, I will say that something of the inevitable happens. With the last three surviving humans, Quint, Hub, and Cher, the wolves' escape Jaguara's city and begin their final search for Paradise. But following close behind is the embittered and maniacal noble, Darcia, who seems to hold somewhat of a grudge against both humanity and the wolves. The hunt for Paradise becomes a desperate one for the wolves and the humans, and though they have the Flower Maiden in tow, it doesn't seem like Paradise will be the final conclusion... Will the world end, or will Paradise open up? The answer will surprise you, that's for damn sure.

The only thing that actually disappointed me about the ending was the ambiguity; but this has become so common in anime that I've actually grown used to it, and it only bothered me long enough to actually realize that Wolf's Rain ended--despite the ambiguous final scene--succinctly. And it didn't take away from any of the emotions I was feeling at that time. Admittedly, I was close to tears, and had not my hands been so quick, I may have spilled those tears onto my cheek.

When it comes to stories, Wolf's Rain is one of the greatest, and when you throw in the excellent soundtrack and near-perfect animation, Wolf's Rain could easily be placed on a pedestal above many of the more recent anime. I highly recommend this series to fans of anime, whether you enjoy mainstream or the more underground anime, because few can compare to what Wolf's Rain has achieved.』

(A great series drag down by the gory and bloody last 3 chapters!)
『One either likes or dislikes the ending. 2 weeks after watching Vol 7, I haven't decided. I just know Vol 7 could have been better. Most of the characters dead is certainly not a way to draw sympathy from me. I find it depressing at first and annoying towards the end. The change in some of the characters also adds to the irritation. Chapters 1-26, though repetitve in certain chapters mid-way, are marvellous and at times brilliant, drawing one into a world both fascinating and poignant. By Chapter 26, we know the ending could not be a happy one but Vol 7 is just too much to take even for a tragic ending. Maybe I am just too simple minded and Vol 7 is a metaphor, the beginning of another story for our 4 wolves. One can only hope!』

(PREPARE TO CRY)
『Im not gonna spoil it for anyone, although some people did already, but the ending was the most saddest thing I have ever seen, I literally couldnt stop crying, but it was so good too, I understand everything better now, if your a big wolfs rain fan and havent watched this, prepare the tissues.』

(can't help but wonder what the original vision was for this series...)
『...if the writers intended to have a reset-style ending all along, or if they were forced to compress and compromise their original vision.

Would be very interested to hear about the "original" ending envisioned (and I don't mean that of ep 26) by the writers...

Nonetheless, after viewing the rest of WR, one can't avoid watching these last 4 eps...』

(Surprisingly Dissapointed)
『For someone like me who had grown to love these characters, I found the ending episodes to be a let down. The ending was appropriate, but for all the characters to die and then be reborn somehow was very depressing and confusing. Though it did follow the previous episodes with the beautiful art and music, it was a very bad way to end such a great series. Almost everyone else that I talked to about the show agreed with me on this.』
『Studio: Infinity Resources Inc Release Date: 05/24/2005 Run time: 100 minutes』
『As the fantasy-adventureWolf's Rainreaches its conclusion, Toboe, Tsume, Hige, Blue, Quent, Cheza, Cher, Hubb and Kiba continue their search for Paradise. The characters head north, slogging through snow storms and savage winds. They negotiate treacherous ice fields and scale vertiginous cliffs. The plot borrows heavily from the Norse myths of the Ragnarok or Götterdämmerung, a continuing process of birth, growth, decay, death, and rebirth. Artists have been drawing on the concept of that endlessly repeating cycle for centuries. But the writers at the Bones studio complicate their story needlessly: they introduce new elements at the last minute, leave some plot points underdeveloped, and drag others out unnecessarily.Wolf's Rainis an interesting and sometimes compelling series, but it ultimately proves to be a frustrating adventure that could easily have been more than it is. (This product came the exact same way I expected it.)
『I commend the company I purchased this product from because even though I purchased a book that is over 10 years old used, it was still in excellent condition. The seller did not lie in their description and I hope all future transactions I have at Amazon are this good.』

(Final Fantasy Chronicles Official Strategy Guide)
『I recommend this Guide because you will never get stuck (what to do next, hidden items, etc). It gives you the strategy how to kill the big bosses (which I will admit is great). I do not think that using a guide means you are cheating. You would be surprised just how much you are missing trying to do the game without one. Any game, if you can get a Guide by all means obtain one.』

(Dan Birlew is Inconsistent)
『I have found that in several other guides written by dan birlew the items, magic, etc. are listed incorrectly. it appears he's done it again. if all you need is a map and some helpful items then this book is for you. however, i wouldn't be so generous as to call it comprhensive knowledge for the game. once again, locations, items, and other general mis-knowledge comes up several times throughout this book. for a real eye-opener as to how bad the author is, play this game and read some online faqs at gamefaqs.com and compare the knowledge.』

(Final Fantasy Chronicles)
『Product was clear and fully illustrated in a very helpful manner.
When ever i got stuck it helped me right out. Plus it told you how to get all the endings to chrono trigger! A steal at fifteen for any one who knows role-playing games.』

(A must have for the rpg world!!!)
『This game guide is one of the best that i have seen yet for chrono trigger...though the cover isnt very flashy it is after all what is inside that counts. With this guide you wont have to worry about getting lost in that annoying dungeon or get defeated by that darn nasty boss and have to keep reloading your game. not only that but with this guide you will be able to complete all 11 alternate endings of the game. yes it may seem like a lot of work but it is worth it everytime, trust me. rest assured this guide will bring you to the top of your game.』

excellent!』

(The Last Quest, no wait, one more.)
『The first book was great, really got you hooked. The second was good but a little frustrating. Development of other characters were okay. The last book was super irritating. The whole time I couldn't wait to finish. Battle scenes were the same over and over. I'm tired of these rehash Lords of the Ring battle scenes. Some of the quests were great but a majority of them were getting boring, irritating, and just huh wtf!?』

(really good)
『This series really well written and entertaining. My friends and I really loved it.』

(Richard Baker's characters)
『Modern literature is all about characters. The successful television shows focus on characters, and the storyline is a necessary vehicle. Cheers, the Simpsons, South Park... shows that had long runs were all about character. Richard Baker's "Last Mythal" series focuses again on some very well created characters whose names we can never quite pronounce. The main character, a young Elven wizard named Araevin (and for an elf, "young" is a relative term) is on the cusp of greatness. But the coming war with a half elf demon princess and her army will make heroes of Araevin and his companions: some of them posthumously. It is a very well written series of books, and fellow D&D geeks like myself will see the (3.x) dice rolling throughout most of the story if we're looking for them. Familiarity with the rules of the game is not a pre-requisite for understanding the story, however, and that makes Mr. Baker's work ring honest. Mr. Baker is a contributing author for Wizards of the Coast and played a large role in the creation of 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons.』
『"All-in-all, this is perhaps the best-written Realms novel yet."
--Ed Greenwood (creator of theForgotten Realms(R)) onForsaken House

When a half-elf, half-demon villain is released from thousands of years of captivity, the very heart of the elven community of Faerûn is threatened. And the only hope the elves have of defeating the vile daemonfey hordes is to once again return to the lands of Faerûn, to the forests of Cormanthor, and to the demon-haunted ruins of Myth Drannor.

This deluxe gift set contains the novelsForsaken House,Farthest Reach, andFinal Gate.』

(FINAL FANTASY 11 with HDD!)
『FINAL FANTASY 11 is a great game for the PS2! But i bought it for $100 dollars at the time; long time ago! Now u can get it cheaper now! Plus i think u can use other online games to save on it! Like Resident Evil (The online one)! But the bad thing is at the time it was that price! They didnt have it for sale with all the expansions for it! U had to buy them separate! Plus FFx and FFx2 u cant have mutiple jobs in them games like u can FF 11! What i mean is can u be a Paladine in FFx or FFx2; hell no! I own FF 11, FFx, FFx2 and FF7 Dirge of Cerberus, and FF12! FF11 and FF12 is the best i think! But if u look on Amazon or Ebay u might find it cheaper then $100 dollars! I do think it should been cheaper when it came out! But if u figure u r buying a hard drive for the PS2! What does it cost for a real hard drive for a pc! IT probably cost more then $50 dollars right? Plus u get the FF11 game with the HDD and the utility disk and the HDD installation guide and the FF11 manual with it! So i say yes when u add the HDD and the game together it would cost over $50 dollars! But i dont think it would cost $100 or close to it! So it is worth it!
But remember if u don't reactivate your character like one of the guys say in their review that u can leave it in active for i say 3 months after that it gets deleted off server! But see if it does u can still keep the game and HDD and use it to start a new character on it!
Just make sure when u buy it used that it comes with utility disk!
Because when i order mine it didnt come with it when it said on Amazon it would! Plus the HDD installation guide should come with it too! Other then the Hard drive and ff11 game with ff11 manual too!』

(Long time no see)
『i have been waiting to jump back on this game for 3 years now for ps2. this model is very hard to find at a $100- and lower price range.
an AMAZING game. basically never ending, and the fun of the game is always there. I recomend anyone age 15+ to play this game.
the only down fall is the 10$ a month fee, BUT... its well worth it.』

(The Mother Of All RPG Game . . . Bow TO Final Fantasy!)
『I finally got my hand on this game (for the second time), I almost had to walk thru the valley of shadows, but it was worth it! Nobody had this game anymore since is no longer available in most stores, but thanks to you I finally can sleep less . . . . THANK YOU!!!』

(For all fo you who thought you had to pay 100$ to get a account back. Wrong!)
『FYI for those who failed to think outside the box! You could of just went and shelled out 20 bucks for the pc version then use the ID's they give you in that copy on your Ps2. You still need the Hard Drive and PS2 disk, but you can use the PC start up codes just fine on Ps2.

Anyways this game is great, it is cheap to get into. You pay 100 bucks for a ps2 and another 100 for the hard drive, and you got a sick game! It shure the hell beats buying a 2,000$ PC in order to play WoW! even though i love WoW, it cost alot more money to get the same satisfaction Final Fantasy Xi offers! i play both to this day on my PC, i have about 3 sealed FFXI HDD drives thinking they would be hard to find later on and i could sell them. I was write on the hard to find part, but i was wrong on sell it for a huge profit part! Either way this game is great, and is the only game out their that can compare at any level with wow.

P.S WoW is still a better game, but FFXI is just cheaper!』

(You're missing out on a alternate life you never had!)
『if you are a gaming junkie, and spend more than the average person on your bum, I strongly reccommend this game. It has quirks in the sense of dealing with the slow paced start-up and aggravating times. Other than thatit's a very rewarding experience come end-game. The people can range from ignorant children to complete genius' discovering and understanding the games mechanics. All-in-all, it is another world. You feel as though you are your character. You interact with everyday people like you, and form bonds and quite the contrary.

The other comments I've noticed, say this game is no good if you plan to not keep playign/paying for it. They DO have a feature to reactivate old accounts. Sometimes they remove this offer, but being the holiday seasons, as well as summer time, they will offer a reinstatement. Not that I reccomend ever not paying for it. I do take breaks here and there, but even if it's time consuming, I feel rewarded in my efforts and money.

Overall, I recommend trying this out, If not for the PS2 version, but another.

The PS2 version, the initial console jump, features low-quality visuals with limited range in vision. It suits someone who likes to take a load off and kick back and join Vana'Diel in a few hours of play. If you intend to play religiously, I recommend the PC version, and maybe the Xbox360 version, if you feel the need to dish out outrageous amounts of money for one title of value.

A must try!』

『I've pass every singal Final Fantasy game out their (besides ff I, II, V XII, XI)and none had the impact of ffVIII. I still today can play this game for hours. FFVII&IV is the only other ones Worthy to be beside this game in the Final Fantasy series.』

(A True FF Title, But Not As Legendary)
『Final Fantasy VIII defintely has the look and feel of a true Final Fantasy title. The game plays well and tells a great story. It is worth the purchase for the PC version even though the graphics were not upgraded from the Playstation version. I was personally happy when the game came to PC - I don't buy game consoles anymore.

FF8 is not the best Final Fantasy title out there. In my opinion, FF7 is the best, with FF6 and FF4 (3 and 2 in the U.S., respectively) tying each other for second. Then FF5 (not released in the U.S.), then good ol' FF8. (That's my list and I'm stickin' to it.)

I am going to assume that you are reading this review as an avid RPG gamer or a diehard Final Fantasy fan. With that assumption, I will leave out all the great details of the game since, as I said before, FF8 is a true Final Fantasy title. Therefore, you know it rocks. But I'd like to focus on the drawbacks if I may be so bold, and explain why it ranks below the Super Nintendo versions and its PC predecessor. All in my humble opinion, of course.

First, the magic system for FF8 is the greatest drawback in my opinion. It removed the idea of magic points (MP). In the old titles, if you had 350 MP, and you used a Cure 2 spell, it would decrement to 325/350. You'd have to replenish eventually or simply run out. In FF8, however, the magic you use depends on two factors: (1) you have to "Draw" the spell out of enemies (the amount you draw determines how many times you can use the spell), and (2) the strength of the magic you use is determined by the amount you drew (up to 100 effectiveness/capacity).

If that all sounds confusing to you, it is. It still doesn't make any sense to me, and I think it almost killed a great game. But Squaresoft is reknowned for altering each release with something totally different. Too bad the magic system in FF8 was such a flop.

Second, the funnest part of the other titles, I thought, was the coordination of items (like weapons and relics) to progressing skills. (Which FF7 nailed perfectly.) FF8 only allows a milder version of this coordination. Character development isn't such a focus in FF8, I think.

Lastly, to be quite honest, the most fun part about the entire game of FF8 for me was the card playing - not the actual game itself or the storyline. In fact, exploring the FF8 was actually dull for me! (I was surprised to learn this, too!) But when I found places to play that wonderful little numbered card game, I found myself spending hours doing just that. I was hoping Squaresoft offered a side version of the card game that I could trade FF8 in for.

The card game for FF8 was supposed to be like the Chocobo development offered in FF7. However, like I said, the card game turned out to be the best part of FF8.

To give some slight pros, I would say that the creatures with which you do battle were rendered quite nicely in FF8. I also appreciate a lot of the bosses (especially the Twins). The graphics are also good enough for the RPG genre - I don't complain about that stuff when playing RPGs.

To close, if you never bought FF8 and stuck with only FF7 and your Nintendo titles, you'd be alright, in my opinion. But if you want it all, FF8 is not a total waste.』

(Time never ages this game)
『I played this game for the first time on the Playstation console. It was my starting point to the FF series. I had alot of fun with this game and I was impressed with the large story that unveils over 40+ hours of game play. Now 5 years after I played the game on playstation I have started the series again on the PC. Just as it was 5 years ago the game is still just as fun as I remembered. The story draws a personality with the characters that you can lose yourself in. Excitement and, sadness to action and, drama, this game is number 1 in my heart. Most people, as said in previous reviews, love this game 100% or, hate it 100%. most who hate this game love FF7. I have not played FF7 all the way through (only first 5 minutes) but, this game is still my favorite. However, I would like to see FFX and FFX-2 on PC.』

(A Titular Entry in the Final Fantasy Series)
『I got started on the RPG video game trail when I was a young lad playing Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars on my Super Nintendo (also from Squaresoft/Square Enix.) Since then I've played many, from Final Fantasy VII to Shadow Hearts: Covenant to Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Bose. But the one game out of all of the RPGs that I played never affected me in the way that Final Fantasy VIII did.

At first I found it a bit confusing. The Junction system baffled my mind until about six hours into the game, and occasionally I was given a lot of overworld freedom without enough of a description of where I should be going, leading to frustrating games of Trial and Error.

But I remember seeing the graphics at the time and being floored. I thought they looked photorealistic, and while they look slightly dated today, they haven't aged badly.

The real meat of the game comes from its story though. At first it seems fairly cliched. Quiet mercenary hero, stirrings of an oppressive military regime, damsel in distress, etc.....But soon I was shown the most complex, diverse world I've seen in a game other than The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

The characters all felt truly human; I was attached to them like no other characters in a game. I felt their pain, I felt their happiness. Even the seemingly stereotypical evil rival of the main character, Seifer, inspired sympathy from me.

In an effort to make the all the characters seem tied to each other, though, Squaresoft made some things feel a bit convoluted during the middle.

But all in all, the game captivated me. The story felt real and right to me, and I couldn't have been more satisfied with the ending.』

『With its tremendous success, it's not surprising that Squaresoft and Electronic Arts have ported the mammoth Sony PlayStation role-playing game,Final Fantasy 8,to the personal computer. However, current personal-computer hardware obliterates the PlayStation's capabilities; althoughFinal Fantasy 8offers hours and hours of addictive role playing, its game-play graphics and sound effects aren't up to par with the PC's best.

Gamers dive into the role of Squall, a scruffy cadet of SeeD, which is an elite military unit formed to fight the war brought on by a nefarious sorceress. The game opens in The Garden, a collection of training communities for SeeD members, where Squall must perform several tasks before completing his enrollment. Squall encounters dozens of unique nonplayer characters during his journey (some of whom join Squall in combat), and while the dialogue sequences are mostly brief, the characters exude personality through posture and animation.

DespiteFinal Fantasy 8's inconsistent game-play graphics--spell and combat effects explode with color, but background art and character models lack detail--its cinematic movie sequences are nothing short of breathtaking. Game play consists of completing missions and exploring new places to advance the story line. Along the way, you'll battle a diverse bestiary of enemies using weaponry, magic, or Guardian Forces (immense creatures summoned to assist during combat). If you're looking for a massive, story-oriented role-playing game with the best cinematic sequences you've ever seen,Final Fantasy 8won't disappoint. --Doug Radcliffe

Pros:

  • Addictive game play
  • Gorgeous movie sequences
  • Epic-sized game world
  • Dazzling spell and combat effects
Cons:
  • Game-play graphics and sound appear slightly dated
  • A console-game feel (no mouse support, etc.)

『More than a sequel to the top-sellingFinal Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8is an entirely new story, following the adventures of Squall, a young military cadet. Aided by an unusual group of allies, Squall must deal with a desperate rival, a powerful sorceress, and his strange dreams.

Set in a world where magic and technology coexist,Final Fantasy 8provides players with a variety of weapon, magic, and transportation options as they explore the vast game world. Maintaining the best features of its predecessor,Final Fantasy 8allows those familiar with previous games to easily adapt to the battle, menu, and exploration controls, while providing unique story-line elements, features, and minigames to make for a breathtaking new experience. Characters and backgrounds take on a much more detailed, realistic look through enhanced 3-D graphics and are seamlessly combined with nearly an hour of stunning computer-generated cinemas.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Shame on Square! This should have beena double disc!)
『First off let me say my one star rating has nothing to do with Nobuo Uematsu's BRILLIANT compositions. "Welcome To Our Town" and "Theme of Love" are classics that belong in any standard collection of uematsu's works. It's Square who screwed the pooch this ost, by cramming all 45 tracks on a single disc. What's wrong with that? The songs don't last nearly long enough, some are not even presented in their entirety! For example, the stunning "Welcome To Our Town" clocks in at a whopping 45 seconds! This song was made to loop at least 4 times before the listener tires of the melody, instead it plays once through and fade out.

Most insulting of all, however, is the butchery of the sacred "Prelude." As FFIV was the first Final Fantasy on the SNES, it was the first version of the classic "Prelude" to feature a new string part, that comes in after one regular rotation of the harp piece. This would have been a goose-bump rising shock to gamers used to the 8-bit harp only version. However, on this pathetic ost, the prelude quickly fades shortly after the strings come in - not just not looping it long enough, but not ever letting it go a single rotation before it decides to fade out! It's clear this CD was mixed by someone who a) didn't understand the music and b) didn't care about the music.

frankly it's worthless. i have a software player that can read sound data from SNES game files. you're much better off emulating the music than buying this piece of garbage. SHAME ON YOU SQUARE, SHAME.』

(For Game Fans Only)
『Forty-five tracks in 63 minutes pretty much sums up this "soundtrack." There are many pleasant melodies on this CD although none last for much more than 60 seconds, which is both disappointing and unsatisfying. The cheap, synthesized music may be quite effective for a PlayStation, but sounds atrocious on a home stereo. This CD is probably great for game players who wish to relive their digital triumphs. For the rest of us, its not worth the effort.』

(Final Fantasy IV: Excellent OST)
『Wonderful gameplay, enthralling story, and an amazing soundtrack. That's Final Fantasy IV. The music for this game is some of the best that's come from Nobuo Uematsu. That's quite a compliment, if you consider the SNES' less-than-spectacular sound output capabilities.』

(Hoping it's as good as the game)
『I admit I have not listened to the actual CD format sdtk, but I have played the game, so I know the music. The music is more techno-inspired than the last FF game I've played, (FF7) and this may turn some people off. But, don't dicount it. The entrance theme is basically the same, with a little mixing thrown in, and, in my opinion is better than ever. This would definately be worth it, the music from the game fit wonderfully with each scene.』

(Wonderful Music - A Great Addition to a CD Collection)
『I had never played the Final Fantasy series until I recently acquired a PlayStation2 JamPak disc with a demo version of Final Fantasy X. From the opening montage, the music in the demo was absolutely stunning. While role-playing games are definitely not my forte in gaming, the music was impressive enough that when I found the game soundtrack available recently, I bought it immediately.

This is certainly the best game music I have ever heard. Listening to this CD is like much attending a symphonic concert. The final song ("Suteki da ne") is entirely in Japanese, and is one of the most beautiful, moving songs I have ever heard, even if I barely understand the language.

In terms of soundtracks from Japan, the soundtracks for Ghost in the Shell, Macross Plus, and Mononoke-Hime are better, but the soundtrack for Final Fantasy X ranks JUST below these masterpieces. The heavy-metal"Otherworld"track is what really detracts from the overall standalone soundtrack, although it likely has an appropriate place within the game itself.』
