Wish there were a square model available to the American market, but as with everything else we are stuck with what the manufacturer wants to sell us, not necessarly what we want. 』
(Very disapointed) 『I owned a Farberware SS electric skillet for over twenty-five years. When the bottom of the pan would not hold the base any longer I decided to buy a new one. What a cheap piece of junk! The first thing I noticed was it didn't weigh anything compared to my old one. That, of course, leads to uneven cooking and hot spots above the elements. It didn't even sit level on my counter top. I had to modify (level) the base because Farberware wouldn't respond to my email complaints. So even though it's not even a year old it's headed for the recycling bin. No more Farberware for me.』
(Residue free food.) 『No Teflon or Silverstone residue in my food! Cleaning it is easier than my old coated skillets and I don't have to replace it every few months when the finish wears off. I don't understand the purpose of the long handle, though.』
(Flawed design hazardous to cook) 『The lid on this frying pan is not vented, so frying chicken is hazardous. the lid permits scalding steam to emit around the perimeter of the lid, especially in the vicinity of the temperature gauge. Cook reaches to turn down temp, burns arm. I'm disappointed, since Presto usually makes good products. margaret l』
(Wonderful Skillet!!!) 『I cannot believe some people think this skillet is awful! I love my skillet and have been using it since Christmas. I can cook virtually anything on it, even pancakes, and cleanup is an absolute breeze! If there is anything stuck to it all you have to do is put in some water, heat to 200 degrees and it all comes off so easily. I do not think the metal is cheap; in fact, it is more non-stick than any non-stick pan I've ever used. Barkeepers Friend is useful in keeping it looking brand-new.I ahve found the heating to be perfectly even, much better than cooking on the stove. My only gripe is that it does not fit into my small dishwasher, but that is not the pan's fault. Truly, I love this skillet and use it all the time.』 『12", Electric, Stainless Steel, Skillet, Luxurious Stainless Steel Body&Handles, Aluminum Clad Bottom For Even Heating, Tempered Glass Cover With Stainless Steel Rim&Handle, Fully Immersible&Dishwasher Safe For Easy Cleaning, Great For Every Meal&Entertaining, 1500W.』

I can't recommend this product enough. I'm getting ready to replace it solely on the basis of being tired of looking at it...and I want a timer. I will definitely buy another Zoji. I live in Japan and have had the pleasure of using several Japanese brand appliances. Zojirushi is a winner!』

And thats a lot of rice for one family. Rice tastes so much better cooked in it. These are a great investment and I am shopping to buy one as a gift now. You cant go wrong with this rice cooker.』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Worth every penny.) 『I've had this rice maker for about 7 months. I vacillated for over a year before making my purchase--not only was the price scaring me off, but this model had been on the market for a while and I wanted to see if anything new and even better came out. However, when I read the mediocre reviews of the newest Zojirushi models--and prices nearing $450!--I thought it was about time I bit the bullet and shelled out for this rice cooker.
This was possibly THE best purchase I've made in the past five years. I ended up getting it for about $30 less via the auction site that everyone's familiar with, but Amazon's price is pretty darn competitive. I opted for the 3-cup model because I'm by myself most of the year and wanted something that could handle smaller batches (as little as 1/2 cup in this case!) for when I'm just cooking for myself, but had the flexibility to handle larger quantities. This size is perfect for a 1-4 person household (3 cups of cooked rice is closer to 6 servings). Ease of use is amazing. I've made short-grain Japanese rice, short-grain brown rice, rice and azuki beans, and mixed-grain rice (a blend of brown and wild rices, in various combinations over the months I've had it). I use it pretty much every night for rice, and almost every morning for my favorite use of this machine: the most perfect steel-cut oatmeal you could possibly ask for. I did get a rice-cooker cookbook to help me fine-tune my ratios, but I find that the best oatmeal is if you use 1.5:1 water/oatmeal ratio, then stir in 1/2 c. whole milk once it's done cooking and let it "warm" for another 5 min. I have had rave reviews about my oatmeal and it's so. darn. easy.
Like another reviewer mentioned, if you add in flavors (in my case, cinnamon/vanilla for the oatmeal, I haven't played around much with savory fare save for plain rice) there's a bit of a ghost of that flavor the next time you make plain rice. I think it might be because of the silicone seal to the steamer lid. I don't mind it much, and I suppose if you're VERY sensitive to any sort of flavor (it only lasts the one batch) you could run a small (1/2 c.) batch first to "steam" out the flavors--this seems wasteful to me, but it's an idea to try if this is an issue for you.
The rice itself comes out absolutely perfect. You'll be amazed at how much flavor this little machine draws out of white rice and brown rice. I was never a huge fan of brown rice (too mealy/chewy) but when I make it in this bad boy, it's so, so good. You'll be a convert!
My favorite part of this machine is the cleanup. If an appliance is too fiddly to clean, I know it'll end up gathering dust--but this machine couldn't be easier. There's a detachable inner lid that catches the splash from the cooking rice that I wash right away, and I remove the steam cover in the back (this sounds arcane, but it's snapping two things off and takes about 3 seconds; the manual is great for explaining it). Then I let the actual nonstick bowl dry out. You heard me--I let it dry on there. Then, it's as easy as wiping out the rice "paper" film you've made with a paper towel. Seriously. Even with oatmeal that would normally cake on there: don't soak, don't scrub, just wait for it to dry. The couple times it's stuck, I just fill it with warm water in the sink for 15min and it washes right off. The nonstick on this bowl is absolutely fantastic. I'm very careful never to bring anything metallic in contact with it, but I hear through the grapevine that Zojirushi is excellent about shipping out replacement parts if you ever need them.』
(I'm pleased.) 『I downsized to this model and got the stainless steel one to match my newer apartment that has stainless steel appliances. The smaller size is perfect for one person. This brand is reliable and I'm glad to have found it.
It's a bit pricey but I've had a larger model for 4 years with no problems and hope to go a long time problem free with this smaller newer model.
Tip: Be sure NEVER to block the vent on top as this can cause damage to the unit. A buddy of mine accidentally laid a plastic Tupperware lid on top and blocked the vent and it now doesn't function completely.』
(Absolutely the best!) 『I've been eating rice since i was born. I've just always bought the standard $30 dollar rice cooker and never really thought much about it. They'd last a year or two then i'd have to buy another one, or the cheap pots would loose their non-stick coating... I figured i'd finaly buy a quality rice cooker. I'm so happy with my purchase. The difference in taste and texture of the rice is truly amazing. Better than restaurant quality rice, better than any rice i have ever made. I know it seems weird because it's really just rice, but in my culture, rice is a major food staple. I can't eat a meal without rice... And I think that is why i chose this model, because it has the Easy GBR prep. My wife and I want to be as healthy as we can, so we are changing out the white rice for brown rice. Brown rice is so easy with this cooker and this is probably the easiest way to make GBR. Instead of soaking the GBR overnight, you can make it in 3 hours. You haven't had great brown rice until you've tried it with this cooker. It practically has the same texture as white rice. My only regret with this purchase is that we didn't buy the 5 cup model. We bought this model as a way to shrink the portion of rice we eat and to cut down on wasting uneaten rice...I'm sure when we have kids, we'll get the larger model.』
(Healthy Choices: Quinoa, GABA Rice, Millet, More) 『I've had this product since it came out and I bought it on Amazon. I love it! Using fresh whole grains bought in bulk, I use this item as the mainstay of my meal preparation. The price is high, but it is comparable to having a good convection oven, which I don't use. The Zojirushi, Soyabella soymilk maker, propane stove, Bravetti, and a deydrator is all I use for meal prep. We pulled the oven out of the wall and use it to store whole foods.
I make quinoa, millet, and GABA brown rice in it. The beauty is that I can put the ingredients into it in the morning, then have the grains ready for meal prepp later in the day. I also take the time for GABA brown rice to reset the timer in order to allow more time for activation. That is the only thing on my wish list: a timer setting to increase the GABA activation time. Other than that, it is a setup and walk away type of appliance. I don't have to supervise the cooking process.
』
(Worth it? Yes, definitely.) 『Very nice product. Does just exactly what it says, nothing more nothing less. Is it expensive compared to other similar items? Yes, I guess it is. But for the luxury of being able to fill the bowl, press a button and come back later to perfect rice it's well worth it. The best thing is that the cooker is dead simple to use. Literally a couple of button presses and you have delicious, well cooked, warm rice. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this item again.』 『Includes Zojirushi NP-GBC05 Induction Heating System 3 Cup Rice Cooker&Warmer.』

(Spaced-Out Japanese) 『If you ever wondered about that strange music in Japanese mystery films, this is it. The Zumi-Kai Instrumental Group has a sound that can be described as 'spaced-out' and very abstract. This recording brings the higher end of Japanese culture and gives it a push into the future. For this is traditional music that will last into the coming centuries. There are five compositions averaging over 9 minutes apiece. These lengthy, intense tunes extend out in blissful atonality. Great for an evening of relaxation, a dinner party, or just meditating on life. Reflection is the mood, peace the goal in this serious set of music.』
(A good representation) 『This alblum was my first of Japanese music. It has only a few tracks, but those tracks are each quite extensive pieces. The first three songs are purely instrumental, the Koto is primary with the shakuhachi contributing. The last 2 songs are slightly different stylistically, they have an added element of vocals. It is a cheap brand, but I think it is a good buy for someone who wants to hear a fairly good execution of traditional Koto music.』
(Not so fast) 『This album was also re-released on the legacy label and is reviewed here at under the same album name - [...]
Assuming this CD lacks the problems described by a reviewer for the other release, then I agree with the other reviewers for this CD. The quality of performance is not quite as high as some other offerings, but the pieces aren't difficult or complex. The album is very enjoyable, despite whatever flaws, real or imagined.』

Mozart's clarinet concerto has in places a similar melancholy yearning rib vibrating feeling as this cd, except that this entire cd is like that. (Manufacturers Need to Get It Together!!!) 『I'm a huge fan of Carnatic music and the playing of L. Subramaniam in particular. Imagine my dismay when I unwrapped the CD, put it in my CD player, and discovered that the disc inside was not that advertised by the external packaging but was of Canadian folk music!!!!! I'm reluctant to purchase another disc from Nonesuch on the basis of this.』
(Doctor! Doctor! Another home run. Beautiful job maestro.) 『This is one of the best CDs you can get on the Carnatic violin genere. The ragas are exquisite and Subramaniam's playing is sensitive and robust. I found the Ragam rendered beautifully. This CD is even better than his Maestro's Choice which was released in 2004 by Living Media India Ltd.
If you want to experience some great violin music get this CD.』
(This is as good as it could possibly get) 『This CD defines tastes, intelligence, control, musicality, creativity, and performance excellence. Subramaniam's mastery is confirmed in these revelatory ragas, revelatory in the vision that they impart and also as a demonstration of his amazing ability. It's Dr. Subramaniam all alone. No tabla. No guest artists from the jazz world. Just solo violin against a gentle backdrop of tamboura. You hear see it all here. This CD clearly shows why he is one of the world's greatest violinists, regardless of category. A must for any serious listener of Indian music.』
(Ahh...to experience Nirvana!) 『One of the best albums featuring Carnatic music as defined and exposed by the Violin, of Dr L Subramaniam. The raga Vasantapriya ("Dear to Spring") is very close contextually to raga Vasantha ("Chettinadu Chinna Magane"). Beautifully rendered in brilliant style by the rebel, this is one of those CDs I'd never think about before recommending. Even a casual listener, one who may not have an iota of understanding of Music, per se, would be amazed by the depth, complexity, tonal beauty, language, and the dexterous handling of the difficult-to-master instrument of listening pleasure. That the raga Sarasvatipriya is not the same as raga Sarasvati, with a bit of modification in the Ragam Tanam Pallavi, as one goes through the entire stretch of the piece, would be obvious. But nobody minds - it's pure magic, performed by the best magician there is.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Beautiful) 『This is a beautiful movie, in story and photography. Even though it is subtitled, I get very engrossed with the story and characters.』
(Visualy stunning!) 『This video will deepen your appreciation for life. It is visually stunning and leaves one with a sense of awe and appreciation. It is truly a work of art. Don't let the fact that it is sub-titled dissuade you. It does not detract in any way from the beauty and pace of this masterpiece. If anything, the sub-titles serve to allow one to experience the film on a much deeper level than the mind. Let this beautiful masterpiece bring your awareness fully into Presence. The Scent of Green Papaya will linger with you forever.』
(Exquisite) 『An excellent example of motion film as an art form. After having rented TSOGP three times, I realized I would be watching it annually, and since Netflix wouldn't buy it, I had to (in 15 years I've purchased about seven DVDs). It is a story about a sensitive 10-year-old peasant girl in 1950s Vietnam; a child who sees beauty in the simplest aspects of nature and does not judge the frailties of humans; a beautiful and peaceful child of the universe who cares for the family of her employer as though it were her own. I would have loved to have raised a child as gifted as this.』
(~~~Stunningly beautiful~~~) 『I agree with the rest that this movie is just beautifully and visually a piece of cinematic art. The beauty lies in the simpicity of the film, which lulls you, relaxes. No computer effects, no fast action. Just the life of a young girl in Vietnam during the 50's. As you watch her grow up, it becomes almost intimate. Her beauty as well as her childlike innocence, draws you into another world. A wonderful film to add to your collection. I have to disagree on one part of people's review. The man that she eventually works for and marries is not the son of the household she onced worked for previously. It is the close friend of the eldest son in that household that she later on works for as an young woman. The same close friend that she developed a crush on when she was a little girl. It is this friend that she works for and whom later on in the film, develop a mutual fascination for each other. Her own childlike, uncomplicatedness serves to draw him into her. And together, they seem to compliment each other in life. The music is also luring with my own favorite classical piece, Claire de Lune by Claude de Bussey. Played often at the later of the film by her master for inspiring himself for his own compositions. You won't regret purchasing this film. Enjoy!』
(Great tender story of young girl servant who blooms into papayas) 『I review the VHS edition. This is one of most beautifully done, tender gentle story I have ever seen. A very young girl from poor family goes to wealthy family to be servant while growing up and learning the traditonal culture Eastern values. She is a hard working girl who steals your heart. The film may seem slow-paced but relax and enjoy the beauty. Seeing her grow from five until 19 is a true treat. Along the way the son of the family, similar in age befriends her. Alas: A lovely princess with musical skill and sharp, patient intellect. Watching her grow is like watching one's own children grow. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for All Ages.』 『ENGLISH SUBTITLES!!! The film begins in 1951, when the beautiful and inquisitive 10-year-old peasant girl Mui (Lu Man San) is hired to work at the home of an affluent Saigon family. When the father absconds with the family's money, the tireless mother (Truong Thi Loc) is forced to support the family through the slim profits of her tiny fabric store. As the family struggles to make ends meet, Mui becomes attracted to a friend of the family, Khuyen (Vuong Hoa Hoi). The film then shifts to 1961, when the family is in desperate straits. The father has died, and Mui (Tran Nu Yen-Khe), now twenty years old, finds herself working in Khuyen's home. Khuyun has grown into an attractive, sophisticated French-speaking pianist, with his own expensive mistress. Mui serves him as she has served the family -- with perfection and silence. She also loves Khuyen is silence, and gradually Khuyen begins to take notice of Mui's love for him.』

Insights into the complexities of the Vietnam 'Conflict' abound, and are of particular value to Americans, who--like me--grew up in the States on a steady diet of intentionally misleading pablum regarding the war in SEA. Based on personal interest in and study of the region and its rich history, as well as extensive travel and work experience in the region, I know that this film rings truer than the vast majority of highly-polished but ultimately short-sighted/shallow Western productions dealing with the war. And if you order/appreciate Dat Kho, consider trying to acquire other films such as "Peasants in Distress" for even deeper insights into the region's history and culture.』
(Dat Kho; Land of Sorrows) 『"Dat Kho; Land of Sorrows" is a film depicting the story of one South Vietnamese family during the Vietnam War. Although the story is fiction, it is drawn from real life experiences. The writer weaves many timeless and poignant issues that are raised during the war. The film is directed by Ha Thuc Can, a former CBS cameraman that covered the war. This was his one and only venture in directing film. The film was shot on location in Vietnam and actually contains real footage of the evacuation of Hue during the Tet Offensive. The film stars Trinh Cong Son, a Vietnamese musician and antiwar protester. His songs are incorporated into the story line and help bring great emotional depth to the film. Several issues are addressed in the film, mainly the circumstances and hardships of Trinh Quan's (Trinh Cong Son) family; the issue of Buddhist immolation, the Tet Offensive and it also weaves a romantic subplot. The romance revolves around Thuy, Quan's sister, and Nghia, who is firm in his political neutrality. By creatively manipulating all of these issues, Ha Thuc Can delivers a wonderful depiction of what it was like to be a South Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. The opening of the film is grim and dark, both in content and cinematography. The author's attempt to convey the bleak conditions of the war is firmly delivered. Quan questions Nghia about the conditions and status of the war. Nghia replies that they have a strong chance of winning and the "morale is high". Historically though, ARVN morale was notoriously low and they never had a very high chance of winning. Nghia candy coats the issue as to not worry Quan. Naturally, Quan will relay any news, good or bad, to his family and that will only cause conflict within the family unit. Protection of the family morale becomes a recurring theme throughout the movie. This opening scene ends with a powerful stare off between the Nghia and Quan where the camera shifts from one to the other a few times. Both are staring relentlessly at each other with furrowed brows. There is a sense of bonding and connection here that is greatly conveyed with this technique. Next we hear in the distance prayers and chants of a Buddhist congregation. The congregation is praying for the immortal soul of Dieu Dihn whom has recently immolated herself in protest of the war. Nghia and Quan overhear this congregation. Quan comments that this is the fifth immolation since the beginning of the war. Sparingly and very nuanced, the film addresses a few times the issue of Buddhist immolation. Immolation, though, was not a phenomenon reserved to the era of the Vietnam War. On a small level, Buddhism has a history of immolation and self-mutilation. It is mainly referred to in religious texts and is usually reserved to metaphorical interpretations. During the Vietnam War, immolation was propelled into literal action by at least 37 devout Buddhists. The film should not lead one to believe that Buddhism, in general, condones these extreme acts of protest. Quan joins a group on foot to walk back to his home city of Hue. You see the group walking by foot down the winding roads. The beginning credits are rolling and the sound of the traditional Dan Bau is playing. As they walk the road, focus is on the mountains and calm sea inlets. It is close to the end of this scene that a major motif is introduced; the sound of shots firing in the distance in two successive shots. This comes to symbolize the war and is revisited throughout the entire film. The group parts in the darkness so they have walked nearly 24 hours. Quan has a quick rendezvous with a love interest. They agree to meet the next day at Tu Duc's royal tomb. Tu Duc is frequently referred to as Vietnam's last emperor before French colonialism ensued. He staunchly opposed French occupation and was said to have cursed the French in his dying breath. The fact that Quan chooses this location to rendezvous is symbolic of his own wish for a free and independent Vietnam. Quan continues on to his family home where he finds his mother and sister Thuy sorting our winter clothes. He surprises the two and after an emotional reunification, Thuy serves a meal. Mother briefs Quan on what has been happening with the family. Quan is then encouraged to perform a song on his guitar. Quan plays a song in Western style, in a Western key but which is sympathetic to the Vietnamese plight and relevant social conditions. This is a wonderful fusion and balance of Western and Eastern culture. Throughout the film, Quan comes to represent on a deeper level a balance between the East and West. Quan states, "My songs speak of the sufferings of our people and our desires for peace." The film embeds three of his songs. One is as follows; When peace returns to our country I shall visit many sad cemeteries And tombs covered with grass When killing ends in our country Then children will sing on the roads When peace returns to our country I shall be continuously on the road From Saigon to the centre From Hanoi towards the south I shall share everyone's happiness And I hope to forget the history of my country
The remainder of the film revolves around the hardships of broken Vietnamese families. Nghia returns to his home only to find that both of his parents had been killed and his younger siblings were forced to live in a hillside with barely enough food to subsist. The climactic point comes when Quan's family comes under attack on the eve of Tet. They are joyfully playing a dice game despite the fact that Ha, one of the family brothers, was recently killed in Dakto. An American deserter is residing with them at this point. Once they realize that they are under fire and it's not just the sound of holiday firecrackers, they flee for safety. The American turns himself in, in hopes that it will help protect them somehow. Evacuation by the entire village is mandatory. They take up shelter and refuge in a Catholic church. This refuge only provides temporary shelter until it is also seized by gunfire. It is at this time that the director incorporates some chilling footage of actual evacuation of Hue's citizens. The romantic subplot is tied up with an encounter between the two lovers, Thuy and Nghia. They risk their safety by meeting in secrecy in the woods. The scene becomes violent when they get shot at but as the gunfire ceases, Thuy finds a flower and points out the timelessness of its beauty to Nghia. She queries, "The flowers blossom despite the bombs, why?" Nghia replies, "The war goes on but flowers will go on blossoming and lovers will go on loving." The film ends on a tragic note when one of the family members is shot during the evacuation from the church. That family member's last words sum up the desperation of everyone. They were, "it's no use shouting for help in this damned land, Mother, nobody would pay any attention...I no longer suffer". The family makes a hard decision to bury the deceased on the road side and continue on home. Mother states, "For if we must die, we shall die at home." The film ends with them walking down the road towards home. The Dan Bau is playing and you hear the succession of shots once again as a haunting reminder that the war and violence continue.

(The title says it all) 『Touching movie. It made my eyes filled with tears when I see the cruelty of war. No matter what side you're on, it must be heartwrenching to see the suffering that the Vietnamese people had to endure and the destruction of a beautiful country. Given it was made more than 30 years ago, I think the movie was excellently filmed and directed.』 『This foreign, English-subtitled film dramatizes the effect of the Vietnam War on a single South Vietnamese family, the inner conflict of decisions by each member of the family whether to remain in Vietnam or leave with the imminent advance and fall of Hue and eventual fall of Vietnam. Dat Kho, who's cast includes the beloved Vietnamese inconic anti-war songwriter/poet/artist Trinh Cong Son (1939-2001) who posthumously won the World Peace Music Award in 2004, is a story of the love of family, love of homeland, love of the culture and language of Vietnam and the ethereal love of the ingenue daughter for her fiance, foiled by the antagonistic forces of the ever-present war. A thought-provoking film.

(Japan - 2003)
Aspect ratio: 1.85:1 Theatrical soundtrack: Dolby Digital
Under the new Battle Royale Act, a group of unruly juveniles is taken to a remote island and forced to engage in mortal combat with another set of teenagers who have defied the Act by engaging in militant activities.
Disappointing sequel to the magnificent BATTLE ROYALE (2000), completed by Kenta Fukasaku following the death of his father Kinji during production. The movie is no less bombastic than its predecessor, though it lacks the element of surprise and is further weakened by a meandering plot line which heads in fairly obvious directions. More controversially, Fukasaku's script (co-written with Norio Kida) launches a blistering - though indirect - attack on American foreign policy, which it blames for fomenting unrest in Arab nations, leading to the events of 11 September 2001 and subsequent terrorist attacks on international targets. This probably accounts for the film's lack of exposure in American theaters!
Teen idol Tatsuya Fujiwara makes a welcome return from the first film, playing the disillusioned leader of an uprising against 'fascist' adults and their murderous regulations, and 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano appears briefly in a minor cameo. However, the film is undermined by Riki Takeuchi as the former teacher with a grudge against Fujiwara's rebellious clan, giving a cartoonish performance as the chief villain. 』
(War Ensemble) 『This being a sequel, most people tend to think it is an inferior product. Quite the opposite as most reviewers on here seem to be missing the point. WAR! War itself is not prejudiced. It does not matter how young or old you are, nor does it matter your race, sex, IQ. The point being here, is that war is always declared by people sitting in a room and then they tell others to go out and finish what has been started. The storyline in this film is simple. The BR act has spawned an enemy of past BR survivors which are to be looked at as terrorists (post 9/11 influence). Now, a class of unsuspecting students are "drafted" to fight a war. The scene where the teacher is giving the daily "death tolls" over the loud speaker as "Silent Night" is heard playing. Somewhat poetic. Maybe this is too tough of a concept for most viewers to fathom about the harshness of how the real world is!? In short Battle Royale II kicks major butt, better than the first.』
(1.5 stars out of 4) 『The Bottom Line:
An unnecessary, stupid, and horribly boring sequel to the fascinating Battle Royale, number II should be avoided at all costs by anyone who likes their movies to make sense, be interesting, or have some modicum of ability behind or in front of the camera.』
(Disappointment) 『I was very disappointed int eh quality of the movie because it would constantly go out of sync, the movie would skip so far ahead and sometimes restart to the title screen. The cover wasn't as it was advertised and it felt like a waste of money.』
(Garbage) 『The overacting in this movie is unbearable. The teacher is the worst. Don't rent this, don't see this, and above all else don't buy this.』 『This brand new revenge edition is 17 minutes longer then the previous release. The language is Japanese with English Subtitles. Extra features include: Footage from the movie's gala premiere, Alternate "Farewell to the Piano", Warsaw Orchestra scene, Trailers and TV spots, Theatrical premiere stage greeting, Kinji Fukasaku birthday stage greeting, Deleted scenes, Behind the scenes specials, and more! Before Kinji Fukasaku passed away he vowed to spend the last of his days working on the sequel to 2000's Battle Royale. Despite his illness, Kinji turned down 24 hour medical assistance in favour of finishing as much as he could, knowing that no amount of treatment could help him at his terminal stage. When he passed away the directing reigns were handed down to his son, Kenta who finally presented an eagerly awaiting world with Battle Royale II. Part II takes place three years after the events of the original BR program and sees survivor Nanahara taking charge of anti-state organisation terrorist outfit: "The Wild Seven". His organisation has declared war on the adults who previously forced school kids to engage in war under the BR regime. The government finds itself in a desperate situation and passes a new anti-terrorism act called Battle Royale II. The class 3-B of Shikanotoride high school are taking a school trip by bus and upon waking up they find themselves wearing metal collars and taken by a military outfit to a secret location. Here they meet their sensei, Riki Takeuchi who tells them that they have three days to hunt down and kill Nanahara or face a certain death by his hands. Given soldier's uniforms and machine guns they are soon sent out to the island where Nanahara and his group are hiding. The fight for survival begins once more.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Why is this so expensive on Amazon?) 『I go to the .99c stores in my neighborhood in NYC and this stuff is $1.99 at the most expensive. yet, Amazon seems to think charging $3.00 more for it is something "good". Yes, this coffee is not the best, but then, it's not made for the US market (which I don't understand since it's available in most other parts of the world). Still and all, DO NOT pay for this stuff here, go to a .99c store.』
(Tasty, Tasty Thai Coffee) 『The one thing that I missed from my time in Thailand was the Nescafe MyCup. It's just unappologetically sugary sweetened coffee in a stick. Add it to a small cup of hot water, preferably a foam cup, stir, and drink. Sugar and creme are already included.
It doesn't taste like "good" coffee, but it is the best cup of instant coffee I've had. Highly recommended.

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Must have!) 『I discovered Indomie brand noodles when living in Indonesia. It is difficult to find in the states. I used to have a fried in Houston that could buy it and send it to me. Now I can find it on Amazon, Halleluiah! The other reviewers are correct this is the best brand to be found. It can be drained as used as a lo mein or not drained and used as a soup. It is great with cabbage and onions added in.』
(Yum.) 『These noodles are hard to beat. Nutty and a bit spicy and all in all delicious. The Pedas and Satay varieties are excellent as well. A bit more difficult to cook in a college dorm environment than ramen soups (Top Ramen, Maruchan Ramen) because you have to drain the water, but totally worth it.』
(The World's Most Addictive Ramen) 『Ah, Indomie Mi Goreng. The crack of the ramen world. How can something this cheap be so bloody good. And why isn't it easier to find??
Seriously, this stuff is mondo good. The noodles are even good dry. You can mix it with just about anything you want too. It's ramen, so it's as healthy as styrofoam. But oh it is so worth it』
(Best damn noodles ever) 『Once you try Mi Goreng's you will never go back. I was first introduced to them in Australia, I'd eat them almost everyday. I give them two thumbs up and five stars.』
(The Ramen Revolution will be Indomied) 『Although, I understand that the Goreng part of the name means noodles without broth, I'll never stop calling this ramen (meaning noodles with broth). The Indomie products that I've tried (original, satay, and pedas) are all delicious. Make no mistake, not all oriental noodles do it for me. When our local Asian market ran out of Indomie, the owner told me to get a different brand that he promised I'd like better. I ended up throwing it out, because the taste was just awful. Indomie (original) however, has a mellow taste, with enough spice to keep you interested.

I think it may have even been around the time New Zealand became officially nuclear weapon free zone. This is had a lasting impact, one of the few books that have had that effect on me. It is not the happiest of stories but it is one that needs to be out there. This book is much more than just a historical sidenote. Regardless of what the reasons for and against war, the consequences for the civilian population always is too high. This book is also a good beginning for young readers especially to get a basic understanding of illness and what someone has to go through. This core story resonates through many cultures, families, friends who watch and support as loved ones battle their way through illness.』
(Student Review from Ms. Gehrke's Class) 『What would you do if you had leukemia, a deadly disease? If you want to know what someone else would do, read this. This story is about a girl named Sadako who is practicing for the school race. Suddenly, her vision gets blurry, her legs get weak, and she falls to the ground!
When she got to the hospital, she finds out that she has leukemia caused by the radiation from the atom bomb, nine years earlier. Her best friend brings her a paper crane, some paper, and she tells her the 1000 paper crane legend. Then, her friend showed her how to make paper cranes.
I liked the book because I always wanted to know what happened next. If you like non-fiction books, this is the book for you. Happy reading! 』
(sadako and the thousand cranes #2) 『This story takes place in Japan duing the time the atomic bomb fell over their city. It is about a girl named Sadako who was always in a hurry to get somewhere. She was two years old when the bomb was dropped. In the beginning of the story Sadako was in school with her friends and all she could think about was the school race at the end of the year...which she won. Later on she went into junior high school and again she could only think about the big race that everyone watched. Sadako always practiced for the race and one day, when she was 11 years old, she fell down and went to the hospital. There they found out that she had the atom bomb disease. Her friend was her first visitor and she told her to remember the crane story. She reminded her that after you make a 1000 paper cranes, your wish will come true. She then made a golden paper crane for Sadako and tought her how to make the tricky parts. At the end of the story Sadako had only made 649 cranes. Unfortunately, she got arthritis and couldn't fullfill her task. Sohrob』
(A story with simplistic compassion about a little girl whose illness made her a hero) 『For many years after the nuclear weapons that ended World War II were exploded over Japan, the radiation effects lingered to cause sickness and death. Sadako is a young girl who was an infant resident in Hiroshima when the explosion took place. She is a lively girl and a star on her school's track team. Suddenly in 1954, she is struck by feelings of extreme weakness and is diagnosed with leukemia. This was before there were effective treatments against the disease and she goes into the hospital where the disease progresses rapidly and she dies. She is taught how to make paper cranes, because according to the legend, she will recover if she makes 1,000 of them. Unfortunately, her illness strikes her so fast that she lacks the strength to complete the task. After her death, a peace memorial is made where people place thousands of paper cranes each year. There is a section at the end describing how to fold paper to make the cranes. Based on a true story, this book has a simplistic compassion about the consequences of nuclear weapons. They kill people quickly and they kill them slowly and this reality must be considered when decisions are made regarding their role in the world. 』
(Sadako) 『Our family has started a "family book club", which consists of my husband and I, my two adult daughters, and two school-age granddaughters. Our first book was "Sadako". It's a very quick read with a character that was easy to identify with.
Although the tale is sad, it opened a lot of discussion points with everyone joining in and asking questions. We followed the discussion (over cookies) with an origami paper-folding session - everyone making one or two paper cranes.
We'll all remember this story, and will remember little Sadako.Sadako 1000 Paper Cranes PMC 3.99 Promo (Puffin Modern Classics)』 『Born in Hiroshima in 1943, Sadako was the star of her schools running team, until the dizzy spells started and she was forced to face the hardest race of her lifethe race against time.』

(gritty and believable) 『 I love this book- it is one of my favorite new genres of travel literature. You can feel Bombay- sorry Mumbai, in this book, smell it and even taste it. One of my favorite books of all time. 』
(Amazing) 『The book has such narrative intensity -- I do not know how Suketu Mehta was able to write with such beautiful detachment about a city he knows and loves (and also hates).
I read V. S. Naipaul's A MILLION MUTINIES NOW, and books by fiction writers like Tahmima Anam. But not until I read this book did I see the personal consequences of the religious hatred that threatens to tear apart the fabric of Indian society.
This is a great book (I also marvel at the author's honesty, that he is able to level the most acute criticism of Bombay culture, but never comes off as sounding like someone with an ax to grind . . . )』
(A minimalist's view of a maximum city) 『As an outsider to India, I've always associated the country with big things. Consequently, I could not help but wonder how this book would manage to cover this behemoth city in 540 pages. Upon completion, it is apparent that Mehta has succeeded brilliantly in examining the big themes of this big city through the transcendent details of those lives who exemplify Bombay: lives of sin, lives of pleasure, lives of devotion. I would recommend this book to anyone more interested in learning about the millions of lives that make up Bombay rather than the city's history.』
(Great book, fascinating stories) 『Although at times this fascinating book borders on an elegy for Bombay, Suketu Mehta has written an incredible celebration of the city and its citizens. Beginning with the immigrant's story that seems to have become requisite of South Asian literature published in the West, Mehta discusses his upbringing in New York. This sets the stage for a central question in the book, "Can we go home again?" Bringing his family to Bombay provides formidable challenges as Mehta struggles to makes sense of modern Bombay. As he begins to explore the city he introduces several individuals whose stories exemplify the city. Dividing his book into three parts, 'Power," "Pleasure," and "Passages," Mehta interviews and presents a variety of stunning individuals and their stories. I found his experiences with Bombay's hitmen and underworld most interesting, but he also explores the lives of police officers waging battle against crime, the producers and directors of the film industry, a bar girl, a homeless poet, people struggling in the slums, and a man who renounces his wealth to become a wandering pilgrim. What becomes apparent is that Bombay is a city of dreams on steroids. Reading about the struggles and hopes of its inhabitants will resound with the reader and provide food for thought. If you are interested in India or want a better understanding of Bombay this book is excellent.』 『A native of Bombay, Suketu Mehta gives us an insiderâs view of this stunning metropolis. He approaches the city from unexpected angles, taking us into the criminal underworld of rival Muslim and Hindu gangs; following the life of a bar dancer raised amid poverty and abuse; opening the door into the inner sanctums of Bollywood; and delving into the stories of the countless villagers who come in search of a better life and end up living on the sidewalks.』

This is a very good guide, however, very disappointed because I thought I was ordering the 2009 edition. It was cataloged in the 2009 section and although the seller did NOT disclose the publication year, I assumed since they were a seasoned, reputible seller on Amazon that they would have cataloged it correctly. BUYER BEWARE, to my dismay, I received the 2005 edition. I immediately sent an email to complain or to obtain the 2009, I received no response back. This is why I am only rating it a 3, because of the seller's negligence. The book is good, however, outdated!』
(Awesome travel guide) 『For planning a trip to the Philippines, one would be hard pressed to find a more complete book. It does a very thorough job of covering the entire country. What is most appreciated, is the detail provided about transportation. You don't really need to rely on taxis and private tour guides to criss-cross the country. The detail about buses in Manila is incredible. In addition, the book is loaded with maps -- although, I recommend purchasing a separate map of Manila itself. If the book has any shortcoming, it would be in covering the hotels within each city. Not enough of them get included. But then, that would require another 300 pages or the complexity and sole-purpose dedication of a Michelin Guide.』
(Comparing Four Books About the Philippines) 『I hope to visit the Philippines in the near future with an eye towards possible retirement in the Philippines. To educate myself I have ordered and read four books about the Philippines, namely:
Philippines Travel Guide - by Jen Peters Culture Shock Philippines - by Alfredo Roces A Long Way to go for a Date - By Henry Makow A Man's Guide to Life and Love in the Philippines - By Larry Elterman
"Philippines Travel Guide" is just that, a Travel Guide, pure and simple, and an excellent one at that. It will tell you about all the places to go, where to eat, where to stay, where to have fun. However it does not offer a lot of insight or practical information about what it would be like to live or retire in the Philippines.
"Culture Shock Philippines" is a book written by a Filipino, from a Filipino's point of view, describing Filipino culture, customs and history. If this is what you are looking for it is an excellent book. However, it is written from a Filipino's point of view, not a Westerner's point of view. It does not offer a lot of practical advice about what it would be like to live or retire in the Philippines.
"A Long Way to go for a Date" is a short and light weight book about a man's quest to find the perfect Filipina bride to bring back to his home country of Canada. It describes his visit to the Philippines to meet and date his potential bride and his experiences in bringing back and living with his Filipina wife in Canada. Ultimately it describes how it all went wrong and turned into a nightmare. This book is written in the first person by the author, Henry Makow, and although Henry sometimes comes across a bit pompous and selfish, I never-the-less like what he did, which was to "put himself out there". It is a very personal account in which Henry is not afraid to say who he is and what he wants, even if you don't agree with it. This book is very light on practical information, but it will give you some nice insight into the process of finding a Filipina wife. However, it was Henry's goal to find a wife to bring back to Canada, not to live in the Philippines, so it did not correlate perfectly with what I was looking for.
"A Man's Guide to Life and Love in the Philippines" like "A Long Way to go for a Date" is also written in the first person, but unlike "A long Way" the author does not "put himself out there". He describes things from more of a distance, so that you never really get to know who the author is. This is my only criticism of the book. Perhaps it would have been a bit more entertaining if it was a bit more personal. That being said, the book never advertises itself to be a book about the experiences of the author, it claims to be a "Guide" about life and love in the Philippines, and on that level I think it succeeds very well. It contains a great amount of information both about what it's like to live in the Philippines and about the practical side of making a life for yourself in the Philippines. It also describes in much detail the process of how to go about finding a Filipina girl friend or wife. In this regard it is interesting how he doesn't just lump all Filipina together as homogenous. He describes a number of different types of Filipina women and what each of them is like and what they are looking for. In terms of my goal of possibly living and retiring in the Philippines this book was by far the best match.
