The battery seems to last a long time. I haven't timed it so I don't know if it actually lasts 8.5 hrs.
I really like the way the touch pad works. It's not as sensitive as some I've used and that's good for me.
I use it for reading online books from [...] by using EeeRotate [...] which allows me to rotate the screen and the touchpad 90 degrees clockwise.
Works great for checking mail and browsing the web.
The screen is very small, but that's the sacrifice for the small size.
Windows 7 Starter seems to work fine. I don't need to tweak anything for my purposes - It's not a development machine.
I was able to add a second user setup for my wife. You can't switch users, you have to logoff.
I did add the 2G memory and that made a significant difference.』

(Love this computer) 『I bought this computer a few weeks ago, upgraded it to Windows 7 Home, and I take it with me everywhere. It's great for taking notes in class (I'm a college student) and so small I can fit it in my purse. But I don't feel that the size makes it difficult to use at all. (Great Computer - Not happy with Windows 7 Starter) 『I bought this computer basically for browsing the Internet and doing other minor tasks, listening to music, creating documents, watching TV and Movies etc. I haven't run any labor intensive programs yet (I've only had it for a couple days). I was going to play around with it for a while before deciding to upgrade to the 2GB RAM. So far so good. I haven't had any of the HD vibrations or excessive noise the other reviewer had. The battery life is phenomenal. I can't believe I can use a laptop this long and not have to be plugged in.
My only gripe is the Windows 7 Starter that comes installed. I have heard great things about "7" and couldn't wait to try it. For someone who likes to "play" with settings, configurations and stuff, the starter edition is not the way to go. You can't even change your desktop from the boring windows logo. I did not think about reviewing the Windows 7 Starter edition before buying. I may have to spend additional money upgrading to the Home Edition. If you are going to buy this laptop make sure Windows 7 Starter is for you.
All in all very happy with the netbook and will serve my purposes wonderfully, just wish I would have looked at Windows 7.』
(Ergonomic keyboard defeated by vibration problems) 『Asus nearly has the netbook PC perfected. The size and ergonomics of this keyboard are bar none the best among netbooks today. The wide touchpad has the right level of sensitivity as well. And Windows 7, even with the entry level Starter edition, offers much faster processing&bootup times than Windows XP does on the Intel Atom N270 processor.
However, the Asus Eee 1005HA has its achilles heel in mechanical design. The 250GB HDD has undamped vibrations that pass throughout the chassis and straight into your wrists. The fan also runs excessively. The combination creates high levels of noise and vibration compared to similar netbooks such as the Acer Aspire One D250. Also, even without Anti-Virus software running, Windows 7 and the preloaded software consume 40% of the available 1GB of memory.
Asus will undoubtedly be working out the kinks in this netbook, but many users will find the vibration and noise levels to be unacceptable, especially when other manufacturers offer netbooks without these concerns. Once Asus releases a thermally cool, vibrationless version with 2GB DDR2 memory, this netbook will be unstoppable.
Update: after exchanging for a second 1005HA, it has the exact same vibration issues. (Poor fit for EeePC 901) 『This is a nice, grippy, non-scratch and non-smudge material, and could potentially be a good cover. I got it because I don't like shiny laptop cases -- having to wipe off smudges frequently or else leave the laptop looking grungy. Unfortunately, as others have said, this cover does not quite fit the EeePC 901 properly (mine is 12g / XP).
The top cover isn't long enough and covers the bottom half inch of screen (i.e., blocks Windows taskbar). If you stretch it down it covers the camera, and then pulls itself back to original position anyway. Also the sides along the screen flare out due to being a bit tight across the backside/outside of the case.
You might be able to cut the top cover to fit better, but that might compromise its integrity and cause it to be loose and fall off the laptop. If you are willing to cut it and also glue it in places to your laptop, it looks like that could work, although I haven't done that myself, yet.
The bottom cover is hard to type through and causes many errors for me, and the holes for connectors aren't quite lined up, but again with some cutting / gluing it might be made to work.
Also, because it's grippy, with this cover on it takes a little more time to get the laptop into&out of its carry pouch.
In it's original unmodified state it is too problematic for me and I have removed it from my laptop.』
