Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Awesome) 『Well those who complain about the new release Before the Frost...Until the Freeze probably complain that this album is too mellow as well. Personally it may be my favorite Crowes album, but it's tough for me to choose. This was definitely a departure for the band at the time incorporating some new sounds into their songs. Although some songs are more mellow, they aren't really sappy...well, maybe "Better When You're Not Alone" is pretty sappy but its a catchy song anyway. I love every song on here, but my favorites have to be "Under A Mountain", "Good Friday", "Girl From a Pawnshop", "Bring On, Bring On", "Let Me Share The Ride", and "How Much For Your Wings?". Ok that's like half the songs so you get the idea. If you haven't heard this yet, I'd strongly advise picking it up and giving it some time to grow on you.』
(Where Are All the Reviews?) 『Three Snakes and One Charm - (1996) 12 Tracks **** (48:41)
First of all, before I actually get into reviewing the music on this disc, I have a question: Where the heck are all the reviews? Did Amazon lose them? Currently, there are only 19 listed right now! Every other regular studio release by this band has closer to 50 reviews and a couple have over 100. I can't believe this album is that un-popular?! With only one review in 2008 and 2007, the bulk of the other reviews are over five years old! That is a lot of inactivity. I guess mine will be the only one for 2009 at the rate were going. That's just pitiful. This album deserves better.
OK, Three Snakes and One Charm is not a bad album. Is it as good as the Black Crowes previous couple of albums? Not quite. The quality level is certainly starting to decline, but just slightly. Instead of three or four outstanding songs like on the last two previous albums, Three Snakes really has only one, Good Friday. In my opinion, this album just had way too many mediocre songs. It's still a good over-all listen, I mean come on, this is the Black Crowes. Even their below average songs are better quality than most of the mainstream rock groups "hits", and most of those group's albums have a preponderance of "filler tracks" to make up a whole album. This album might have been more popular if some of the singles actually got some radio air-play! I don't ever remember hearing any of the songs off Three Snakes on the local radio station. That kind of exposure really helps any albums popularity. For example, even though I was living in a different part of the country at the time, the local radio station played practically every song off the Southern Harmony and Musical Companion album. The record companies also contribute to an albums success or failure by supporting it with ad campaigns, release parties, etc. The support (or lack thereof) can also be seen in the packaging of this release. The last two previous albums came with a multi-page CD Booklet containing photos and song lyrics. Three Snakes only has a single gate-fold "booklet" and no lyrics.
Three Snakes and One Charm starts off just like most Black Crowes albums with a couple of "rockers", Under a Mountain and Good Friday. In fact it continues on in an upbeat fashion without slowing down until about half-way thru it when you get to the slower acoustic Girl from a Pawnshop. One thing this album has is plenty of what many refer to as that "dirty guitar" sound (Nebakanezer, Blackberry). Most people have commented that this album had to "Grow on them" or it "took a few more spins than usual to get into it". Nothing wrong with that, there are many really good albums that took me some time to "get into". So there you have it. If you give it chance, you will be rewarded. 』
(A VERY laidback Crowes album. Took some time to grow on me.) 『While I've been a die-hard fan of the Black Crowes since day 1, it took me a long time to like this album. Compared to the first three albums, and especially the follow-up "By Your Side", "Three Snakes and One Charm" is incredibly laidback. It seems strange that this is the same exact line-up that gave us the band's magnum opus "Amorica".
"Laidback" is really the best way I can describe it. There's no shortage of slow numbers here. Even with the few upbeat numbers like "Let Me Share the Ride" (featuring the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, an opener of theirs on tour), "Blackberry" and "One Mirror Too Many", there's still a strange looseness and lax feel to the playing. It's hard to put into words. But as Chris Robinson said in an interview at the time, while "Shake Your Money Maker" might be more of a "Friday night" album, this one is more of a "Sunday afternoon".
I had a real hard time getting into this album when I bought it. It just didn't grab me the way that the others did. I kept returning to it every once in a while, and eventually grew to really love some of the songs. The loud guitar-driven "Nebakanezer" is still one of my favorites, and "How Much For Your Wings" is a beautifully catchy ballad. "Girl from a Pawnshop" has a nice country ballad feel to it.
The rereleased version (which was included in the "Sho 'Nuff" box set and also released separately) includes the two B-sides "Just Say You're Sorry" and "Mellow Down Easy". It also acts as a multi-media CD and contains the video for "Blackberry". Die-hard collectors might be curious to know that there was also a limited edition release as a box of vinyl 45s.
While the Black Crowes were always compared to bands like Rolling Stones and Faces when they started, the truth is that they always had a diverse number of influences, and their sound evolved from album to album. So in retrospect, a change like this wasn't too surprising. One paradox of many Black Crowes fans is that what we want from the Crowes is them doing what THEY themselves want to do, not necessarily what the public wants.』
(The Black Crowes caught the wave) 『This band understands rock n' roll for all it's depth. I truly believe that if they had been a 70's band they would be considered in the same league as The Stones and Skynyrd. Of course, they're much more musically talented than bands such as The Beatles, but that's pretty obvious to anyone who loves bands who actually have the balls to play live rather than just hide behind their celebrity status. I'm so glad they're out there again preaching the doctrine of soulful music. Every album they've ever put out has been a masterpiece and this is no exception.』
(Noisy and annoying!) 『Hmmm, Black Crowes...well... To me, and obviously to a lot of other people, Black Crowes music is very influenced by Rolling Stones but Stones have something that Black Crowes lack - it takes more than pot, attitude and a slobby approach to be a rock and roll band. Of course they managed to perform one or two great numbers every once in a while, but mostly it's rather boring and the vocals can really annoy you. This release includes NO great tune at all, the only decent one is "Just say you're sorry". The rest is awful!
Once I had four Black Crowes albums. First I sold "Amorica", and now is this one "Three snakes..." in the pile for cd's to be sold. That leaves me with "The southern harmony..." and "By your side"...for the moment...』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great Rock n' Roll) 『The Birth of Rock 'N' Roll is a two CD set that is one hour, twenty-three minutes, and eight seconds. With the exception of two songs, every song hit the chart; mainly in the Rhythm&Blues Records category. Seven of the songs lasted more then one week with the winner going to Sixty-Minute Man by The Dominoes. That one song lasted fourteen weeks at #1. What can I say; give me that old time rock n' roll instead of that junk they play today. It has artist on it that people like me have forgotten about. Some of the artists are: Faye Adams (Shake a Hand), The Nutmegs (Story Untold), The Dominoes (Sixty-Minute Man), Joe Turner (Honey Hush), Ruth Brown (Oh What a Dream), and Joe Liggins (Pink Champagne). They don't make songs like these anymore. The Birth of Rock 'N' Roll gets an AAAAA+++++ from me.

He's a commanding percussionist and leader, whose job is made all the easier by the presence of an "old" pro like pianist Ronnie Matthews, a redoubtable player like trumpeter Don Sickler, and the much-in-demand, bassist-of-the-day, Scott Colley. The date features only one Monk tune (by Sr.), but some other major compositional talent is represented, including tunes by Buddy Montgomery, Ronnie Mathews, Clifford Jordan and Melba Liston. But the highlight on the session, at least to my ears, is Walter Davis Jr.'s "Gypsy Folktales," one of the masterpieces from the pen of a pianist-composer who wrote music that is as distinctive and exciting as it is challenging and advanced. The crime is that, since the neglected Blakey ensembles of the 1970s, so few musicians even attempt them. Davis Jr. was not only a pianist who actually "knew" the inner workings of both Bud Powell and Monk better than anyone else, but beginning in the late '60s, he applied their innovations to his own compositions, perhaps as effectively as any composer since, producing music of daring and singular imagination.』
(Lacking something.) 『T.s. Monk's third album, "The Charm" has always been a bit of an enigma to me-- I always rather enjoy listening to it, but it's just not memorable. Monk's band (Willie Williams on tenor and soprano sax and flute, Bobby Porcelli on alto sax and flute, Don Sickler on trumpet, Ronnie Matthews on piano and Scott Colley on bass) had been together for three years now (well, Colley joined a year after everyone else...), and their performances had taken on a resonance and depth that only time offers, but something about this one just doesn't stand out. And it could be that its the third album on the formula.
The formula, by this point, was to address a handful of bebop/hardbop pieces, arranged for sextet primarily by Don Sickler, with a couple originals thrown in. This album features a curious set of pieces-- Melba Liston's "Just Waiting", "Marty Sheller's "Marvelous Marvin", even Monk's father's "Bolivar Blues" aren't exactly commonly thought of as standards. Some of these get rather inspired readings-- "Bolivar Blues" picks up a deep New Orleans groove (something prevelent in the younger Monk's music) with a superb, bluesy tenor solo by Williams to cap it off, Clifford Jordan's "The Highest Mountain" presents in a gospel call-and-response pattern and features superb playing from just about everyone, and the leader gets a feature with his fantastic work on Walter Davis Jr.'s "Gypsy Folktales". But it may be the delicate ballad by Liston-- "Just Waiting", that steals the show, mournful and pretty, with a simply lovely tenor solo.
The originals on this are decent enough-- Matthews' "Jean Marie" gets an odd arrangement with two flutes and muted trumpet stating the theme and a fantastically Monkish solo, Porcelli's "Rejuvenate" has a fantastic off-rhythm theme but the solos are all thin until Matthews comes crashing in.
Still, while there's little to criticize here, it's just missing a certain something. Maybe it's just me, but I never got into this one as much as its followup, the stunning "Monk on Monk".』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Double Dragon movie review part 2 part 1 is on Double Dragon uncut DVD 1/10) 『Continuing This is 1 of the the worst movies ever made bad fight scenes bad plot bad chase scenes bad dialog bad 1 liners&bad f*****g acting. You know the film was 95 minutes that gave the movie 15-20 minutes of build up to Marion being kidnapped then 75-80 minutes of guns explosions&martial arts greatness. Honestly if Billy&Jimmy were played by Keanu Reeves&Scott Wolf I couldn't have seen a difference. So don't even download it go rent or buy Double Impact with Jean Clude Van Damme.』
(cinematic genius.) 『I saw two movies in 1994. There is no question in my mind: Double Dragon>Schindler's List. BAR NONE.』
(Double Disaster) 『After the disaster that had been the "Super Mario Bros." movie, "Double Dragon" had the chance to set future game-to-video adaptations on the right track. It certainly seemed simple enough: with a slew of "action heroes" left over from the `80s and a premise that was all about kicking butt, where could it go wrong? Well, let me count the ways in which it became just another casualty of the `adaptation wars'...
In the movie, Los Angeles has been ripped apart by an earthquake, leaving the city a deadly fighting ground for various gangs and a struggling police force. Evil billionaire Koga Shuko (Robert Patrick, "Terminator 2") plans to utilize an ancient and magical artefact known as the Double Dragon to empower himself so he can take over the city. One half is easily obtained...but the other is in the hands of karate-practicing brothers Jimmy (Mark Dacasos, "Brotherhood of the Wolf") and Billy Lee (Scott Wolf, "The Nine"), who must add escaping from Shuko's henchmen to their list of tournament-losing, gang-fleeing worries.
I won't even get into how much the film's tone and storyline deviates from the video games, but I'll warn that the film's age-appeal stops at 10. Think of it as "Power Rangers" without the costumes and the giant robots: Jimmy and Billy spend less time fighting than they do running and cracking bad jokes, and when they do fight, it's against slobbering gang members and a guy in the worst monster costume I've ever seen. While the adventure aspects of the film are decently done for any preteen audience, things like acting and having a decent script ("I just want total domination of one major American city! Is that too much to ask?!") are best left ignored by those of us who know better.
In the film's defence, the fight choreographer apparently took a page out of Jackie Chan's playbook and had the fights incorporate the environment more than most other action films back then did - using a street cone as a weapon, stopping an attacker with a swinging car door, etc. In addition, Mark Dacasos' legitimate talent for martial arts shows: though there's no decent one-on-one showdown that lets him shine, his skill and athleticism are apparent even before he became a big-time player. Scott Wolf, however, is less of a worker. The guy was never a martial artist to begin with and it doesn't look like he had any training for the film: most of his moves consist of sloppy-looking kicks that any kid in front of a TV can do, shoving, and...well, running.
As an adaptation, it's unfaithful, and as an action movie, it's kind of lame; throw in Shuko's ridiculous hairstyle and the knowledge that it was directed by a man who had before (and since) only directed pop concerts and video packages, and you've got yourself a film that's easy to hate. Gamers, put it out of your minds - this one is lost to oblivion.』
(Hell Yeah!!!) 『This is the movie world's LL Cool J!!!! If it weren't for Mac and Me, I'd say this movie was the greatest of all time!!! People, wake up!!! You're so used to seeing garbage like Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, Star Wars, House of the Dead, etc you don't know what a good movie actually is!!! Buy this and watch it with your family on Thanksgiving, you won't be sorry!!!!
OH, almost forgot.... I strongly recommend renting this movie along with The Mangler, you won't be sorry!!!』
(Video Game Based Movies) 『Most video game based movies are bombs and this one stands out above some of the ones that cames before it. Mark Darascos is a great martial-artist and this film gives just a taste of what he can do.』

But I'll do a lot of projects that have been inspired by this book. I think that is what Melinda Barta had in mind when she created this book. It is a book that gives me great creative ideas and just enough instruction to excite my brain to think of ways that I can do something creative. That's ultimately what I want, to design jewelry, not just follow instructions.』
(Custom Cool Jewelry: Book Review) 『Just looking at the cover intrigued me to discover what's inside Melinda's new book. I love being able to create jewelry out of unusual things.
She takes you through all of the many techniques used in making custom cool jewelry. She cleverly divided the book into four information packed sections.
The first section is, "Pendants". She goes through eighteen different techniques to make some really beautiful pieces. The etch-a-bead is a simple technique that brings a striking element to your jewelry that just makes it pop. You don't need a lot of things for this either. And the results are beautiful. If you have some cute little stickers and some etching cream, you're pretty much good to go. Another one I liked was the Patchwork Pendants. They are made of cloth craps, ribbon, rickrack, and felt pieces. And you use ink stamps and embroidery floss, add a jump ring and.....wa-la, you've got a pendant.
The ideas Melinda has on cabochon pendants have an expensive look but, with her easy to follow directions and beautiful photos, you will be making quality pendants in no time yourself.
The second section of custom cool jewelry is charms. I just love charms! These charms are made of bead caps, cones, and common findings, used in nontraditional ways. She gives you ideas that I bet you've never thought of. Little open blossoms, they are really cute. Using only a couple 11 size seed beads, filigree flower bead caps and head pins. Another really easy one she tells about is the soft charms. All they are, are pliable fabric circles with an eyelet punched in the middle. But with using vintage and patterned material, makes them a nice touch.
The third section of Miranda's book is, "Clasps". Many beautiful clasps of different styles. From rings to charmed chains, to lasso loops and more as well. Which are all very inspiring. I love the charmed chains.
Miranda shows how to make your own hammered hook-and-eye clasps. Her instructions for these are easy to follow.
In the last part of her book she has finished projects along with instructions and brilliant photos to go along with them. I absolutely loved the Santa Fe necklace!
If you are a beginner and new to different aspects of jewelry making, she has a well organized section in the back going through everything from, what bead types were used, their shapes and names, wire size and gauge, various types of findings and tools you will use for the projects.
And a how-to section on simple wire techniques along with diagrams.
I recommend this book to beginners as well as novice beaders. It is sure to inspire something in all of us.

(NOT for beginners...some creative ideas to stimulate your own) 『At first I was a bit hesitant as to whether or not I liked this book when I first scanned through it when it arrived on my doorstep. Now after more careful review, I find that I do like it for these reasons: The more extensive coverage of pendants and design of them. Pendants are often the stimulus in putting the necklace together - at least for me it is - for it helps me to determine the beads to use (from seed, glass, stone, other; as well as the stringing method). Pendant designs in this book give you a great starting point in going your own way using the bits of info Ms. Barta provides. Secondly, I really like that there is NO step-by-step instructions - just a few to get you on your way to design your own work. I am soooooooooooo tired of seeing how to make a basic loop (even though there is a tiny section covering this at the end of the book - and it only takes a few pages - thus subjecting this book into the intermediate or above jewelry designer). Third - I found that my own trend to combining elements to make an interesting pendant is repeated here and thus giving me more room to try other objects as this author has shown. Freedom in design - my cup-o'-tea!!
Wish there was more info on making clasps and charms - but then again, the publisher - Interweave Press - is notorious for limiting its books to 145 pages or less. Why? I don't know, but I think this inhibits the authors from really putting in more information that is desirable to their readers. Ms. Barta obviously has a lot of cool ideas and expansion on these (e.g. clasps) would have been a great addition to this book.
So for the pendants alone - a solid 4 stars; the selected clasps and charms - 3 stars; limited pages - 1. I know if I averaged these out it wouldn't come out to the 4 star rating, but as I said, the pendants are the key to many necklace designs. I also feel that all of the jewelry shown in this book is definitely wearable by many - why do I say this? Well, I am a bit on the conservative side due to my customer base. My customers and my friends do not want gaudy, wild fringe, irregular&often bizarre objects in their jewelry, particularly those that work in various office or businesses. Those books are for dedicated to those in the artist groups where almost anything goes - and for even me when I am in the mood and know I can get away with wearing such creations. However, for the most part, I receive compliments (as well as my customers) on the designs that do not overwhelm and even have a bit of whimsy in the pendant or charms. And this book does this type of balance very well. Good work Ms. Barta - and try to buck the system and produce a book with more than 145 pages! (HINT hint - Interweave Press!!!!)』
(In Custom Cool Jewelry, Melinda Barta shows you how!) 『It's no accident that Barta, Melinda's last name, contains the word ART. This chic yet accessible jewelry making book, Custom Cool Jewelry, is extremely artistic in sensibility...to the point that I (and any reader!) would love to own all of these fantastic pieces which Melinda has designed. They are up to date, or vintage, or dressy, or funky, or fascinating, or full of curious bits and pieces which have been pulled together by the author to make delicious sense, and they are one of a kind in style. That is why this book is called Custom Cool Jewelry. Ultimately, the reader is given the incentive viewing this lovely book with its solid teaching technique to go out and start making thoughtful and personal jewelry of her own.
As, at the moment, there is little interest in flashing "cookie cutter" styles, as far as jewelry is concerned, and most people who love jewelry like to look special and stand out from the crowd, this book is bound to be a huge hit. It brings artisan crafted jewelry to a fine point, and the author deftly guides you through the creation of unique pendants, charms, clasps, and finished projects. I have to stop right here and interrupt myself to say that my favorite technique in the book is the glass etching pendant technique. I love it, I love it, I love it! This technique is worth the price of the book alone! I do not think I am the only one who will find herself drawn to the mystique of etched pendants and beads, because of the way the author teaches how to create them.
But don't stop there! That's just the beginning! She has lockets with tiny and fascinating contents inside to die for, mixed media charms using a variety of glazes so that you can learn, as you make something fabulous, and simpler creations, too. Framed collage pendants with appealing images of stars, butterflies and angels...whatever is your fancy can be found in this book. Better yet, you can design it, because Barta shows you how!
Melinda Barta also covers polymer clay, and takes vintage jewelry and shows you how to turn it hip and update it. She teaches straight techniques, like lasso loops, and distressing, and how to end a jewelry piece with a set of orbital rings of your own making and some fabric or a hook. She shows you how to make a needle and thread mesh beaded clasp. I liked that demonstration a lot!
She also works with plastic, crystals, cabochons, and wire. She embosses and stamps! It is like a mini crash course in many techniques. Everything she makes is appealing.
The six finished projects presented at the end of the book, which utilize many of her techniques, are stunning. My favorite of those six? The "Floral Romance Necklace". It is light and airy. She has broken up the chain here and there with some beads to let it breathe, and the pendant she chose to finish it with, white with a black imprint, is something you can teach yourself to make earlier in the book. A true delight to see, and, I imagine, to wear.
Question: Would this be the very first book I would buy if I were just starting out to make jewelry?
Answer: Ummm, maybe; maybe not. Custom Cool Jewelry might seem overwhelming; it has so many types of jewelry making in it. In my opinion, it might be a great gift for intermediates and up. However, do not let that stop you from buying this fab book for yourself if you are new to jewelry making and jewelry design. Just save it, studying it off and on, for when you are slightly more adept! The learning curve for motivated jewelry artists is very fast. And this book WILL motivate and inspire you! Things will "fall into place", due to this book.
Additionally, there are some easier projects in the book which you can do right away if you wish, or even some bits of projects you can practice your skills on. I repeat, the incentive, because the projects are so beautiful, is very high, so you WILL want to learn.
The author's sense of design is unerring and delightful. Custom Cool Jewelry is a great book to own and use as a reference for your own custom jewelry!』 『

This book wants to be an urban fantasy romance novel. I found it to be entertaining, but pretty hopelessly silly and fluffy, if you'll pardon the pun. I like the *idea* of the novel's concept, but it was not well-executed. This is a good fluff read, but if you seek either solid urban fantasy or a good classic romance novel, this is NOT the book you seek.
It didn't help that I read it as I was also reading Rosemary and Rue, by Seanan McGuire, which *is* solidly urban fantasy.』
(Magic of True Love) 『Do you believe in the magic of true love?
Chloe Hobbs lives in Sugar Maple, Vermont, a picture perfect village, and owns Sticks&Strings, a mecca for knitting tourists. Sugar Maple has a secret, though, that is hidden from the outside by a protective spell put in place hundreds of years ago. All the inhabitants are magical beings - vampire, witches, sprites, selkie, etc, but they all get along for the most part. The spell protects the town, allowing outsiders to see it only as a beautiful town filled with normal, although slightly quirky people.
Well, not all of them are magical. Chloe may be the daughter of a sorceress, but her father was a human, and up to now, she has no magical abilities whatsoever. The problem is the town's future is in her hands. Only she can keep the protective spell intact.
Enter Luke MacKenzie. When he and Chloe touch, sparks literally fly. They are meant for each other. He is her one true love, but where do they go from here? He's pure human, and a cop to top it off. What happens when he finds out what is really going on in Sugar Maple? Can he accept it or run screaming? Their romance develops quickly, but I got so caught up in the story that it was believable. They were meant for each other.
The seconday characters were a great bunch of off-beat friends and neighbors. I was sad about the fate of one of them, though. I really loved him and wanted him to have his own happily ever after. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like that will happen. On the other, the story continues in Laced with Magic, so maybe with magic, there's still hope.
Love and magic are knitted together to make this a wonderfully enjoyable, light paranormal romance. You'll be holding your breath, hoping Chloe will get the happily-ever-after ending she longs for.

(Appallingly bad - go buy some acrylic instead, you'll like it better) 『I got this book largely on the basis of Wendy Johnson's review. I'm a huge fan of Wendy, and usually trust her judgment completely.
However - I found this book dumb beyond belief. The characters were shallow and uninteresting. They reminded me of characters you might find in a really, really bad TV sitcom. I could almost hear the cheesy theme music and canned laugh track whenever one of the two perky sidekicks entered the room. I also found the repeated references to how beautiful all the townspeople were (and then comparing them to various movie stars) - odd. Strange. The repeated references to Chloe's skinniness, then describing her scarfing down bags of Chip Ahoys followed by a pint of Ben&Jerry's to be a bit bizarre as well. It's a fantasy of a type that I find pretty pathetic. (maybe they skipped the part where she stuck her fingers down her throat and made it all come up again.) And Chip Ahoys, seriously? Scorcers who could make a plate of the best gourmet treats appear out of thin air and they're eating rubbish like that? Ugh.
TV sitcom, indeed - together with the commercial interruptions with brand names front¢er.
Speaking of which - while I am a lifelong and passionate knitter, I found the yarn-brand-name-dropping extremely gratuitous and annoying. Did Koigu pay for the production of this novel? Or Lorna's Laces? Debbie Bliss maybe? Did they write some of the 5-star reviews here?
Because this is not a 5-star book, not even for a crazy cat-loving mystery-loving knitter. This is quite possibly the worst book I've ever read. Save your money and spend it on some cashmere or something - or even that cheap acrylic you saw at Walmart. It would be a better use of your cash. Seriously.』
(Interesting and exciting new world to explore) 『I was very surprised by this; I was expecting a very light, fluffy read but this was much more intricate and interesting. The magical world she develops is very unique, and the characters are all very real and lovable. The relationship between Chloe and Luke was really sweet, and I absolutely loved Gunnar, who I just felt so sorry for. However, it was pretty easy to figure out who the 'bad' guys were, although I wasn't sure exactly how Bretton was going to resolve matters. It's biggest value I think is in the interesting world Bretton builds and her character development. Just a very interesting read; I'm looking forward to trying the sequel, "Laced with Magic."
P.S.- The stuff about knitting is very minimal and doesn't detract or distract from the story, even if *like me* you know nothing about knitting.』
(Not Magical) 『This book was bad - really bad. I've read supernatural books before but I actually didn't anticipate this one would be so .. unbelievable. The characters were weird (fairies, elves, shapeshifters) and there was one human living amongst them in a modern-day Vermont town. The basic premise is that the human, Chloe Hobbs, has hidden magic that has yet to be discovered and, it seems, true love is the only way to make her magic develop and save the town from its own evilness. The title corresponds to Chloe's line of work - she owns the local knitting shop. I've read almost all of Bretton's romance novels and have generally enjoyed their mature romances and sugary appeal; this book was a complete departure and not one that I enjoyed. I suppose it was just to unrealistic for my tastes and the characters weren't very well-developed or interesting. The cop who visits Sugar Maple - Luke - eventually finds out about this magical town and doesn't even blink an eye... not too likely. This is not a romance in the traditional sense; the leads share one or two chaste kisses and their love scene is cut (not described). Totally a waste of time and trees.』 『Magic. Knitting. Love. A new series and a delightful departure by theUSA Todaybestselling author ofJust Desserts.
Sugar Maple looks like any Vermont town, but its inhabited with warlocks, sprites, vampires, witchesand an ancient secret. And Chloe Hobbs, owner of Sticks&String, a popular knitting shop, has a big secret too. Shes a sorcerers daughter in search of Mr. Rightand shes found him in Luke MacKenzie, a cop investigating Sugar Maples very first murder. Bad news is hes 100% human, which could spell disaster for a normal future with a paranormal woman like her.』
