(A garage band with roots)

(The Charms grow up)

I agree, they've got that raw, garage-band feel. They are retro with the throwback farfisa rolling in the background, yet are edgier than most bands doing the retro thing. DBID is the high point along with the title track. Ellie Vee's vocals drift from intense and raw to sultry then back again. Definitely got some punk thrown in for good measure. A really good album by a band with a promising future.
This is a band that has done their homework. To me - at least - a lot of todays so called "Garage Bands" sound like they listened to a couple of cds from 60's&/or 80's new wave bands, they just don't have much bases to draw from. The Charms sound like a band that really loves this kind of music.

On their third release the Charms put it all together. There is simply not a bad song on this cd. It stands up to...no, it REQUIRES repeated playings!! The song writing is excellent-lyrically and musically. The distintive farfisa is still there but guitar player Joe Wizda steals the show-nothing flashy, but a brilliant rocking presence throughout. Singer Ellie Vee has found her voice and what a voice it is, sexy and sultry or peeling the paint off your walls. "Red cherry lips-that's what I talk about you with" is the opening line of the disc and from there it jsut gets better....you won't be disappointed if you buy this cd!

(Not Up to Luciano's Capabilities)

(Fine Album. . . Good Luck Finding It. . .)

Unfortunately, this album is just not on par with other Luciano albums. It sounds as if it were rushed out of the studio. It seems as if very little thought went into it (lyrics and music). Much of the music is comprised of recycled rhythms from the past. However, I DO like "Freedom Fighters." It uses the Dennis Brown "Revolution" rhythm, and the lyrics are simple, yet good. "Celebrate" is also a nice tune. "Mr. Minister Please" has some fire. Overall, however, the album lacks the creativity and depth of other Luciano albums. For a recent great Luciano album, check out "Child of a King."
As a lifelong fan of regage music, I'm somewhat saddened (and at other times downright sickened) at what occurs in the business side of the music. The music itself, forever continuing to offer some of the strongest vibes in the world while seeking that mainstream exposure, almost seems to act against itself in the business arm of the industry where you get downright GEMS of albums go virtually unpromoted. The seemingly related labels, Charm, Penetentiary and Rude Boy appear to go through this process quite frequently, all the while releasing albums from some of the finest roots talents in modern reggae. Artists like Luciano, Sizzla, Junior Kelly, Capleton, Anthony B and now most recently Richie Spice have all (had) released albums through the various labels (with all but Spice releasing multiple albums), but unless you're the most keen of reggae fans and collectors you'd probably never know it. The albums often appear to be thrown together within moments almost, rarely is there an executive producer or suitable credits (and sometimes none at all) and even more rare is a solid cover which the artist clearly developed for that particular album.

One of the most consistently appearing artists on these labels is Luciano. Having released (by my count)no less than 10 albums, dating back to 2001, (I'm including Jet Star (who typically distributes these albums) and combinations as well) Luciano has routinely released quality material to sub-quality promotion and distribution, including the 'phantom' Shallow Water, which I'm not sure was ever actually released. The true shame here, is that most of these albums are VERY VERY good, and based on who releases them alone, have very little chance at all being heard by the masses. Another real shame here is that the practices in releasing these albums almost ALWAYS seem to attempt to capitalize on the promotion of a bigger album, in this case, the recently released Child of a King from Vp Records. That album, which is being justly promoted and for which the Messenger is planning a tour, will almost certainly indirectly promote Revelation Time as well, as you may 'accidentally' encounter this one by looking for the Child of a King album. Luciano's projects for Jetstar, even above all the others are always well done, not the hurried and pirated way in which nearly EVERY Sizzla release has emerged, which make it all the more the shame that none shall ever receive its just due.

Most of Luciano's releases, anyway, are top notch and deserve to be checked out. Rarely ever (if ever at all) straying below 'good', Luciano albums are always something to look , Revelation Time is no different at all. This album is, again, somewhat of a compilation which Luciano himself has had very little (if anything at all) to do directly with Revelation Time, and although as a collector and a fan hoping the best for teh music, that is rather disheartening, strictly speaking as a fan, it has very little effect on the actual vibes. Revelation Time is a big big album. It lives up to the very high standard you'll find listening to most Luciano albums, and although he may not even know of his existence (but I'm sure he does) I don't think the Messenger would have much of a problem lending his name to this project (provided he has been compensated for it of course).

Taking the course in which has been built draws my only complaint for Revelation Time. It has somewhat of a mechanical feel to it, as if it was (and it was!) just thrown together. However, for true fans of Luciano, there will come a point in the middle of this album where you will absolutely just love what you're hearing, and not even reaching the album's finest moment. The title track itself even has a nice powerful vibes from it; falling much more into the beautiful and lush type of vibes with a Cannon Fraser horn backing, Revelation Time is just a big big tune! Besides that tune which sticks out on name value alone, check the ridiculously large combination which opens the album, the nice Mr Minister Please a combination with veteran Kingston singer Triston Palmer. The combination works nicely as it features Luciano's signature baritone vocals, combined with Palmer's higher pitched and smooth melodies, on Luciano' obligatory high level weed anthem (and Mr Minister is amongst his finest).

There are many highlights on Revelation Time, none perhaps bigger than the closer. Although not the best tune here, without a doubt the closing book end, God's Love, a medley featuring Beres Hammond, Michigan, Courtney Melody, the legendary Marcia Griffiths, Palmer and dj Delly Ranks alongside Luciano for one of the album's most powerful tracks. The song plays over Easy Star's highly addictive Pick Up riddim (which featured one of my favorite songs ever incidentally, Anthony B's Love So Divine!).

All that being said, the best tune on Revelation Time is without a doubt the sickly beautiful No Love to Give. No Love to Give is another combination with a dj (who goes uncredited, but maybe Louie Culture. . . although he sounds absolutely nothing like Louie Culture). No Love to Give is a very very powerful track and I might even go as far as to call it one of the best tunes of the Messenger's career, its that massive. Also check what is definitely the second best piece on Revelation Time, Freedom Fighters. Freedom Fighters finds Luciano recalling some of the great Freedom Fighters in history, even name dropping some of his peers as well. Without a doubt No Love to Give and Freedom Fighters are THE class of Revelation Time.

Another terribly interesting tune here is Warning. Warning finds Luciano (if you can imagine this) channeling the late great Tenor Saw! No, he doesn't do his impression of the legendary sound singer, but he follows the exact cadence of the late Clive Bright throughout the song, and he does so without actually losing 'Luciano' so when all is said and done, its still a Luciano record and sounds like such, but just a very nice changeup. Also, check the solid Break Down, which flows nicely over a cool George Miller riddim (the same used for Junior Kelly's hit, Black), one of the later solid tracks on the album.

All of the tracks here are worth mentioning actually, as I said in a Luciano album yo ureally cant go wrong! He always maintains a certain level of quality on his releases (and all his music actually) which keeps him a step above the rest in terms of consistency.

Overall, I'm begrudgingly recommending Luciano's Revelation Time. Having heard the artist himself in older interviews remark that he wasn't exactly crazy about JetStar's release schedule of his projects, its almost a love/hate relationship I have with these albums. Yes! They're all good, and Revelation Time is amongst the very best of them all (overall is actually a considerably stronger album than Child of a King even). So, IF you check this one, know that it might not be on the best terms with the artist, but you should surely have no problems enjoying the mass amount of vibes from Revelation Time.

The "Charm's Charming Chubeez" are excellent toys for children. They are cute, well made, have a delightful "weight" to them because of the water-filled ball in the belly. Don't be put off about the water-belly - these toys aren't going to leak unless a dog gets a hold of them.

However, it should be noted that they are closer to the 8" toy standard than the 12" that's mentioned in the description - this may vary by toy.

Additionally, the belly is made of a lycra/spandex-like material in the shape of a heart that contains a rather huge "Charm's Charming Chubeez" logo. The logo is slightly offensive but the toy is overall so delightful it's not hard to overlook and kids won't generally care about it either.

By far, these toys are up there with the likes of the "Aurora" brand in their delightful design and quality materials.

I remember these from elementary school, and I'm sure they'd been around a while even back then. I've tried the other Blow-Pop flavors and none compare with this one. The cherry is pretty good, but the "Whatamelon" can't be beat! I'd say for me the biggest appeal is the hard candy shell; I was never that much of a bubble gum fan, but this is worth it just for the candy.

Sir Rex Harrison acted on stage and screen for almost 70 years, spawning classics onto which he put his own unique style, making those parts his forever. Can anyone visualize the role of Henry Higgins in "My Fair Lady" being played by anyone else? Impossible! As a life long fan, one who once had the chance to catch him on Broadway, this biography is a nice balanced look of this remarkable man, gifted with a great talent, but all too human, and many demons from poor choices dogged his life. His story is not all glamour and glory, but it does provide an interesting perspective on the life of one of the greatest actors of the 20th century. The book is worth reading just for the chaotic behind the scenes life of Hollywood in her Golden Years.
I was not particulary happy when I discovered that this great actor was arrogant, difficult to work with and bascially an unpleasant man. But what does not get lost is the impact that Harrison made in his career on the stage and in films.

While his cruel personality detracts any love for the man from me, it does not tarnish the fact that he was a very gifted performer. Alexander Walker did his homework in bringing Harrison's tempestious and volatile personality to life and also bringing his achievements and make us understand that while he was hated by many personally, he was loved professionally by the audience.

In spite of a rather trite title,FATAL CHARM. is indeed one of,if not the best written book on the life of the late Sir Rex Harrison. Mr. Walker shows us the great actor warts and all and we end up loving and understanding Harrison all the more because of it. It is all here,his six marriages,humble liverpool beginnings,his fear of singing on stage, and his volitle personality, Mr. Walker describes the great kindnesses he gave Kay Kendall and Lilli Palmer on their death beds,he also tells of the dreadful scenes with Palmer and 4th wife Rachel Roberts. The more you read the more you get to know Rex the man,not just the persona he put forth to people.In short Fatal Charm is a refreashing account of the personal and proffessional life of one of our centuries greatest actors.it shows how one man's personal life,his tradgedies and triumphs,can propell him proffessionally to a point of perfectionisim that would not have been there if he were a less irracible man.
The brilliance, charm, and sophistication of the comic actor and perfect English gentleman blend with a darker view of his egotism in a portrayal that draws on unpublished sources, conversations with Harrison, and interviews with family and friends.

this book offers a practical but fun new way to practice magick--via your toiletries and cosmetics. who knew that you could create passion via soap and use magickal perfume to attract love? most importantly, the books inspired me to invent my own recipes and ideas for magick via cosmetics. for all of you beautiful, crafty witches--this one's for you!
This book is full of fun recipes and ideas for daily magickal living, but is definately not one of McCoy's best pieces of work. I am a big fan of Edain McCoy and was slightly let down by the content and writing style. Recommended for the formulary or for the McCoy Groupie, but not much else.
Beauty is part of Goddess-hood! This book has fresh, wonderful smelling and natural recipes for a variety of purposes, to be used in spells or to just enjoy. There is also information to help create your own blends. It even has a"wash that man out of your hair"shampoo! If you love bath and beauty products as well as natural magick, this is a great addition to your library!
When I first skimmed through the book, I was going to give it 2 stars... It was not what I had expected it to be. I had expected it to be a book about spells in enhance or increase beauty, but in fact, it is mostly about spells using beauty products (such as soap, lotion, perfumes, etc.). I was rather disappointed at first. But, then I decided to read through it a little more thoroughly. It does include some recipes on beauty-enhancing spells and items (beauty soap, beauty perfume...). In addition to that, it explains how to make basic soap (but not from scratch!), lotions, perfume bland, massage oils, shampoos, conditioners, and other products. For anyone interested in both spellcraft and natural beauty products, I would definitely reccomend this book. Anyone looking for a get-ptretty-quick spell, don't bother with this, there's nothing like that in here. My final vote: 4 and a half stars

There are authors who are the masters of nothing but taking advantage of currents and trends. They create catchy titles and attractive book covers and once you fall into their trap and buy their books (plus whatever they are selling inside their books), you find nothing more then pop psychology and the deterioration of the term New Age.
The New Age movement is a very important one, that is coming to break old cycles of limited thinking and religious (or skeptical on the other end) fanatism. Don't let the term New Age be clouded by the commercializing of spirituality.
With that said, "The Goodly Spellbook" is the real deal. The authors are real masters of the Craft. The book is full of resources. Not only useful and powerful spells, but also a rich historical account on magic, as well as principals, techniques and universal laws.
I highly reccomend it!!
It took a bit to get here, but it came and was in good condition. Thank you.
All I can say is that this book a definitely a good book to have if you enjoy spellcasting. Not all the spells in the book I have a purpose for, like "protection of a child" but it's nice to have it there just in case I do. If you're looking for a good book of spells to get this one is a great one to get. It's all in the name, "The GOODly SPELLBOOK".

"The Goodly Spellbook: Olde Spells for Modern Problems" should be required reading for anyone even considering studying magic. End of review. Seriously, I have read my fair share of books examining magical systems, schools, or spells, and none have impressed and inspired me as much as this book. I haven't been this thankful for a book since "Magick for Beginners" by J.H. Brennan, and since that one is getting hard to come by, I'm extra glad to have a new book to recommend to any interested in magic. Now that you all know I LOVE this book, let me tell you why.

"The Goodly Spellbook" is written by Lady Passion and *Diuvei, who are High Priestess and High Priest of Coven Oldenwilde. Those of you who have been with The Magical Buffet since the beginning are no strangers to these names. Coven Oldenwilde was the first organization we profiled in issue one. In the very next issue Lady Passion wrote an article called, "THE WILD, WITCHY RIDE: How to Create and Conduct Elaborate, Popular, Public Sabbats". I knew that Coven Oldenwilde was a special group and that Lady Passion was a gifted writer, I expected an interesting read, but instead was blown away. I started reading the preface of the newly released paperback, which was fine, but then on page 17 I read this line and knew I was about to read something extraordinary. "Magic is an authentic spiritual practice, best used in tandem with medical, legal, and other reasonable measures." This sentence may seem mundane to some, but any who have read books about magic know that this level of intelligence and rationale are rarely exhibited.

In my opinion the book's title is not adequate. "The Goodly Spellbook" sounds like it's just a bunch of spells. A book of lists. This is not the case. The book is divided into 3 parts, scope, skills, and spells. The scope section is equal parts history, philosophy, and ethics. If everyone knew that all practitioners of magic followed the ethics laid out in this book, no one would fear magicians. Moreover, before all you haters out there get started, the Wiccan Rede is not printed in this text. So no fluffy bunny comments are allowed.

The skill section is a collection of everything you could ever need to know. A person could devote their whole life to the study of just what is in this skill section, never opening another book. "The Goodly Spellbook" covers correspondences, scrying, geomancy, chants, charms, magical alphabets, mystical dance, knot magic, and tons more!

Finally, the spell section has roughly 92 different spells for review. Each spell is described in detail, including variations, spell origin, timing, ingredients, recommended ambiance, and a section devoted to the magical theory behind the spell. For once, reading from a published spellbook is engaging.

It's not just flash, there is real substance. Any leaders of a Coven could write a book about their unique practices, but "The Goodly Spellbook" not only discusses Coven Oldenwilde's use of magic but also is thoroughly researched. The book is littered with footnotes that attribute sources, and the bibliography, which is handily divided up by section (scope, skills, spells), is an impressive reading list, filled with respected classics and new interpretations.

Technically, I ended the review in the first paragraph, but for those of you here at the end, take this to heart, if you want to know what all magical practices should aspire to be, read "The Goodly Spellbook". End of review, this time I mean it.

I bought the book cause of the title. The Goodly Spellbook. It is so full of useful information that I find myself going back to it time and time again. It is well written, well laid out, a wonderful book. My favorite boughten spellbook.

Here is the thoroughly comprehensive, absolutely definitive guide to spells—the basic handbook for anyone looking to practice some hands-on magic. Delightfully well-written and practical, filled with atmospheric illustrations and diagrams throughout, it encompasses all the principles and philosophy of spell casting, and gives recipes for charms to solve common contemporary problems. This offers what witchcraft and Wicca books don’t: an in-depth understanding of what’s behind the spells and why they work. It’s amazing how much magic is in here: Geomancy, Elemental Scrying, Tree Divination, Mystic Dance and Drumming, Kitchen Witchery, and lots more. From healing, protection, and attraction spells to spells for discernment, repulsion, and concealing, not a topic goes uncovered.
