(Just Try It) 『After my father became terminally ill, we decided to sell their home to help with expenses and have them move in with me. We put the home on the market in late February 2009 and had very little interest (one low ball, insulting offer in April). Following my fathers death, I returned to his home (still on the market) after purchasing this statue. We had no other showing since the first and only offer. I buried this statue the day after my fathers funeral in June -- 13 days later we were under contract with an offer that was great. The price was lower than we initially expected, but there were no contingencies attached (not even a finance or inspection contingency). We closed 4 weeks later.
I am not religious and I don't beleive in this type of hocus pocus--my dad did. Many friends told me about this and after 5 months on the market with no real activity I was desparate. Next time I try to sell a house I will use St. Joseph from day one.

Attractive San Francisco location shooting and a superb supporting cast featuring Jack Palance, Mike (`Touch") Conners, and Gloria Grahame, raise the bar of this exciting, nail biter noir classic, despite a rather simple and familiar plot. What's fascinating about the film is how director David Miller takes a familiar plot and presents the drama within it in a most entertaining and absorbing fashion. Crawford plays a successful San Francisco heiress/playwright, Myra Hudson, who falls for Lester Blaine (Palance), an actor who unsuccessfully auditioned for one of her plays. They eventually meet on a train back to San Francisco and after a whirlwind courtship, the two eventually get married, but after a few months into the marriage, Myra later catches on that Lester and his old flame, Irene (Grahame), intend to kill her so he can inherit her fortune.
Note Director David Miller's brilliant cinematography--how he effectively telegraphs the use of ordinary objects--an initialed handkerchief, a key, a Dictaphone machine (even a small clockwork mechanical dog!), and his successful use of dissolves, light and shadow, and mise-en-scene to convey the terror and fear that not only registers on Crawford's expressive face within the frame, but is carried thru an entire scene. In this film, Crawford perhaps most successfully exhibits the strong, yet vulnerable characters she made a long career out of playing. Although the intended victim of a nefarious plot to take her life and her fortune, we see how Crawford's Myra Hudson consciously and methodically intends to turn the tables on her unfaithful paramour and his lover just as if she writing a plot synopsis outline for one of her plays.
This was Palance's first "starring" role after his smallish role in the classic "Panic in the Streets" with Richard Widmark. He admirably conveys both the aura of vulnerability and deceit necessary to charm Crawford's character into believing he is her doting, loving husband. While this is not in the same league as, say, "Mildred Pierce," it should be considered as one of Crawford's better films and, as it stands, it is a superlative achievement in film noir.

(Quit your whining, this DVD rocks!) 『Alright, there are no special features. Alright, so there aren't even any subtitles. And there are a couple of seconds where the picture had grain- ok, I give. But overall, this film is excellently presented. I don't have any complaints about the sound or the picture- in fact, I thought it was remarkably clear considering that it hasn't been preserved as well as a lot of other pictures. Trust me, the plot more than makes up for any minor annoyances.
In an Oscar nominated performance, Joan Crawford plays successful playwright Myra Hudson. When she falls in love with a handsome actor named Lester (played by Jack Palance, nominated for Best Supporting Actor) everything seems perfect. But when she discovers her husband's plot to murder her, she designs a plan to reverse the gun.

Miller also directed Crawford in 1957's "Story of Esther Costello". The picture was one of Joan's favorites and resurrected her career after many flops. The picture would go on to win 4 Academy Award nominations including one for Best Actress for Crawford, her 3rd. Even her daughter Christina liked it. Sit back and enjoy a wonderful Crawford film. However the DVD transfer, as many have said, isn't up to par. Don't expect perfect digital quality and extra features. Buy the film because it is a great movie and the fact that it's on DVD will enable us to have it for many years. So if you liked the first 2 seasons, this is a great set to finish off the collection. If you didn't like the first 2 seasons...nothing to see here, move along. Picture quality is fine, although it flips between the full screen and widescreen (for the interviews) way too much. It's like every 3 seconds it's flipping to another format which can be distracting but you get used to it. Sound is uncensored like the other sets, lots of foul words and screaming. Extras are pretty lame with the usual casting interviews, some unseen stuff and others. Nothing to really write home about
Long story short, if you like Flavor of Love at all, pick this up. Great price (got mine for $14.99 I believe) and all the uncensored craziness you'd expect.』

(Missing: Reunion Episode!) 『The final season of "Flavor of Love" was quite an experience, not only holding the title for the longest amount of episodes any of the FOL shows have contained, but also due to the surprise ending during the Reunion, already commented upon in other reviews. Flav's "final decision" was a wonderful way to end the series, which makes the DVD's absence of the episode so much more infuriating, no less than the dissapointment I felt when the second season also contained no Reunion Special. The situation is somewhat remedied by the inclusion of a leaflet which states the following: "To Watch the Flavor of Love 3 Reunion Special, Long On to [...]; Enter the Secret Code...." Though this does make the episode available to all who purchase the box set, it is certainly less permanent than actually owning a copy of the special in the DVD format. To add insult to injury, the Reunion has yet to be added to the website listed, simply stating the episode is "coming soon...." (as of June 7th, the episode is now available.) In either case, I truly enjoyed this season and commend Flavor Flav for making the "realest" choice to end his long and colorful history on VH1, but I feel one should be warned of the content the DVD does contain.』 『Movie DVD』

You can NOT re-register ANY of the "Clickables" (Technosource) items! (this includes the hand-held game as well!)Disney Fairies: Tinkerbell and The Lost Treasure
As for the online game itself, there are TONS of bugs that prevent you from getting through the game. It took them 3 MONTHS!!! to correct a closet issue for clothes for your on-line fairies, thus you could not see or use many of the items you had earned through quests and/or clickables and/or bought in the game by collecting items! Even if you have collected items, used the codes from the toys you have bought, there is never enough room for the items you want to keep!
You can call, send reports, suggestions, and there is still never enough room! When there is a problem (that MANY other players are having as well) IF you get a response, it generally consists of "we're working on it", OR The problem must be at your end: e.g - When I reported a problem that many other players were having, I was requested to send a report to Pixie Hollow (Disney Interactive)that was a test of my machine, but contained personal info on my PC, the programs on it, etc. two friends who reported the same problem were sent two other reasons for the game not working properly (one was told she hadn't earned a "Badge" when she had even sent in a screen shot of it, and was basically called a liar according to her by the staff), then was told the problem must be with her computer.. blah, blah, blah... Another friend who reported the problems was also told at times basically it must be her computer, her settings, and so on.
If you get on the game forum and post anything but nice thoughts about it, they are buried into a "rant" section, which you will not know even exists unless you make such a post about the game not working and/or asking when things will be fixed so you can play the game! (AND Pixie Hollow staff will tell you that the forum basically has nothing to do with them (OK right, Disney is going to allow someone else to use their name!?! I think not!) AND if you look at the upload logs in the Wiki for the game, the same online names are used there as the moderators' names for that game and others (They seem to have a skeleton crew staff that attempts to run all of their games, and either because they are stretched to thin or don't know how, the game always has some problem going on. For the 6 months I played, I felt like I got about half of that out of it and was paying for it!
The game should have never left BETA testing, and it seems additions to the game (which are beautiful with what you'd expect from Disney from an art perspective)have such major problems in the game that you simply cannot play the game and enjoy it for more than about a couple of months, then you'll really notice the MAJOR problems of not enough storage space, quests not functioning properly for paid members, and run into walls where you simply cannot do any of the objectives of the game, or buy other things you'd like for your home, no more clothes, even though they release a LOT of things all at once, and you may have earned enough to buy things, there is simply not enough room for the items, and you have to delete something!
There are places where you can make your own clothes and household items, buying dyes and choosing your own colors for things you've already seen in the game, which is a great idea, but is a problem when you do not have room for the items! (I only made I believe 3 clothing items for myself, and two of those had to be deleted because there is simply no room!)
ALSO, items you earn disappear (from cookies you need to go into the wilderness, which for the last more than a week many of us have not been able to access!)
There is a theater where you are supposed to be able to put on a pre-scripted play, but the language and tone of the language of some of the "famous fairies" in the quests, the language in the game, the manipulative stories of your child basically being a gofer for especially Tinkerbell, seem to me to teach kids to be targets for bullies.
Bullying DOES go on in the game, and thus I would NOT recommend this game for children at all!
You can have parties at your home, yet the 3 games you can buy often crash (you'll still get the points towards a badge for hosting so many party games, or playing games at other people's parties, but
If you don't want your child (or yourself) subjected to high-pressure sales tactics, and don't want to be frustrated with everything in the game that does not work, then steer away from this game and the toys that interact with it! There is a huge push to buy T-Shirts, etc. with YOUR fairy's picture and name on it.
There are a lot of nice people on the game, but also be aware that there seems to be a population of teens that despite the limited chat talk about seriously inappropriate things on the game for small children to be reading!
The on-line game this item works with I played for about 6 months on subscription. I saw a few glitches at first, but figured it was a fluke and that Disney would get on it and fix the problems right away! Boy! was I wrong!
Every time the on-line game has an update, there are MAJOR problems where you literally cannot play entire portions of the game, IF you can even get logged onto the game and it seems you'll will spend more time sending error reports than you will playing the game, if things continue as they have been for the last 6-7 months.
This game *COULD BE* a blockbuster (AND a REALLY FUN GAME!), and I'm sure with the sales team will sell a LOT of subscriptions (I read somewhere they have 6 MILLION registered accounts already, and this is before the new movie comes out this month) along with the Nintendo DS game that is supposed to interact with this game, and they have already had, since at least last February, glitch after glitch after glitch! They may sell a lot of the new DS games, however it's a game that will likely be in the thrift stores before the year is out!
I'm uncertain if the DS game will be like the Technosource, and only be registerable to one account only, but if it is, I'd avoid that as well...
There are FAR too many free games that are FAR better maintained and operated.
IF you do buy the Clickables, I've read that if you delete a virtual item you get from it, it takes nearly an act of God to get it back if you change your mind, and hours on the phone with the "Never Council" as the staff like to refer to themselves. The Clickables charms only give you one item, and you can get badges for "collecting (buying) them, yet fr those who bought them all, know that there is one left empty in your "Leaf Journal" on the game, and I read a post from Disney that says they are no longer making these toys, and there are software problems with loading them as well,which makes for more frustrations for kids (AND even adults) who want to simply play a fun, interactive game!
I'd suggest looking elsewhere for a good on-line game to play with your kids, or simply play the game for free. The codes for ALL the toys you can buy are all listed on a Disney, and other, websites so you can get the codes for the other toys that have the codes for free, without buying the toys (Although Clickables DOES have extras you might like as well, but with so little room in the closets and storage for these and other items, there is plenty to choose from without buying these as well.
I have two account, one paid, and one free, and I found I can do almost everything (and sometimes more with the glitches) on my free account than I can the paid account!!!

(A great read!) 『I had the pleasure of meeting Jillian Venters at Comic Con this year. I also had the immense joy of buying a signed copy of her book. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The best part is how this book appeals to large variety of people. (Much more than it seems) 『I was drawn to this book simply for its spells having a Book of Shadows already on my shelf. But when I started to read I slowly began to realize how much more this book really is. Don't let the size fool you. It may seem small but this is one of the most extensive books I have ever read on the subject. Not only does it explain the basics that pretty much every Book of Shadows does (or should) go into, but it also explains intricate details for further knowledge that most have to gain from personal experience.
It starts with deity basics, explaining what green witchcraft is and its ethics (Ann Moura being a green witch along with much of her family for many generations) along with who (in a very general way) the Goddess and God are. She mostly leaves this open for slight interpretation since many different types of point of view of the subject exist along with names as she slightly goes into by explaining what she has been brought up to believe in her family. She also expresses the main (not necessarily most popular) types of green witchcraft. Then she goes into the Wheel of the Year, quite extensively.
A large amount is devoted to what the book claims to be, the BOS, explaining rituals, chants, and blessings done during the Sabbats (one of the longest and most extensive I've seen) and during spells, tools and how to make them, important rituals such as Drawing Down the Moon and consecrations, a large chapter for just meditation, a chapterof just things needed to make a spell and ritual work and what goes into making them (there are nineteen sections of this chapter mind you).
Only now FINALLY do we get to the spells chapter, which was mostly spells for basic living which I personally was happy with, having grown tired of the usual making your neighbor fall in love with you spells. Afterwards is a section on crafts which are used often in many books and spells. Next comes the chapter on most things herbs are used for like teas and baths. Then a chapter on all things divination associated such as how to read tea leafs and extended explanations of each and every tarot card. And finally what I thought to be most surprising was she actually put in a section on palm reading.
All and all, this book is wonderful and has literally everything you will ever need. I highly recommend it for all witches, green or gray, beginners or advanced. It's a marvelous read. 』

You find your self constantly skipping between times and the grimoires he is talking about. Would have been much better if he would have talked about one book at a time and not all of them at the same time as it is now. The structure of the book feels more like a lack of structure and I fail to see what the chapter names has to do with the content of the chapters.
Also I think his definition of what defines a grimoire is very different from mine since he seems to bunch many magical books that I do not feel belong to the grimoire tradition at all in to it.
His talk about the grimoires being astral magic makes no sense to me either. Astral magic is when you work on the astral plane. The grimoires on the other hand is designed to take spirits from the astral plane to the physical so it hardly qualifies as astral magic.
The material it self seems mostly correct though but because of the lack of structure I just cant continue reading it.
I have also asked my self for who this book is written. It is to complex for beginners and to unstructured for the scholars. The magicians usually wants something more specific then this. So who was the main target for the book?

(The Magic Never Stops) 『If you thought you were outside the realm of magic, think again. There has been _Buffy the Vampire Slayer_ on television, for instance, with magic books central to some of the plots. When the program was popular, Owen Davies used to get e-mails from teenage girls asking about specifics of casting spells. "They had seen my personal website," writes Davies, "presenting my historical studies on witchcraft and magic and assumed I was a practitioner." Who knows if some of those inquiries were from your neighborhood teens with queries against you in particular? And even if Davies couldn't help the petitioners, and even if magic is all bogus and never works, it is still intimately associated with orthodox religions and has been since those religions began. In _Grimoires: A History of Magic Books_ (Oxford University Press), Davies gives a full and authoritative look at magic books, their origin, and their influence. There is plenty of history here, but magic continues into the current day. Grimoires still cast their spell.
Magic had plenty of specific uses beyond bringing blessings or curses. One was treasure hunting. You could go out and dig for treasure, and there wasn't anything heretical about that, but some treasures were kept hidden by ghosts and demons. "Who were you going to call?" jokes Davies. "Why, the priests and monks who had access to the grimoires which instructed on how to conjure, exorcise, and control them." (This was the sort of work that Joseph Smith and his father did, using seer stones, magic circles, and talismans to find treasure, until Smith used some different sort of magic to be given the golden plates from which he could translate the Book of Mormon.) Sexual magic was popular, whether to help in a sexual conquest or to improve sexual performance. Magic was also used for medical treatments, often jointly with religious healing. Exorcisms of illness demons could be combined with ordinary prayer as well as with using charms that might or might not be Christian versions of pagan amulets. Doctors might have recommended such remedies. Davies shows that although grimoires and magic lore were used by clerics and doctors, when the Renaissance came, and printed books became widespread, anyone who was literate could follow a grimoire's recipe. You didn't have to be literate to get a grimoire's benefit; just owning it could help you. _The Long Lost Friend_, printed in America in 1856, showed the blend of magic and Christianity when it proclaimed, "Whoever carries this book with him, is safe from all his enemies, visible or invisible; and whoever has this book with him cannot die without the holy corpse of Jesus Christ nor drowned in any water, nor burn up in any fire, nor can any unjust sentence be passed upon him."
_Grimoires_ is no grimoire, but it does include samples of wisdom from many books of magic and descriptions of magic practice. For instance, a monk in France in the sixteenth century was sentenced to life imprisonment after being tortured to confess that he exerted control over women by offering to the Devil wax puppets that contained his saliva and the blood of toads. A skeptical modern reader will be amazed that this sort of nonsense was ever thought to have any power. We have Viagra now, and we have metal detectors that are better for finding treasure than spells will ever be, and we have antibiotics, but still the call to understand the universe by means of the supernatural seems overwhelming for many. Magic, often yoked to better-accepted religions, never seems to go away. Incense, for instance, has for centuries often been used for magical purposes, and certain types were marketed for certain spells. For people concerned about incense smoke setting off their smoke detectors, aerosol sprays with the same magic potency are now manufactured for ritual use. The _Necronomicon_ was a fictional book of occult wisdom that fantasist H. P. Lovecraft used in his horror tales, but that has not kept "real" Necronomicons from being published and put to use by those who fancy "Lovecraftian" magic. You can get the latest on how to conjure up a demon on the internet. Davies's review is big and entertaining, and will serve up a good dose of dismay for those who think we ought to be done with the silliness of the supernatural. 』
(An Entertaining Historical Overview of Grimoires) 『Davies has written an entertaining survey of grimoires, surpassing in different ways Christopher McIntosh's earlier and shorter text on the subject The Devil's Bookshelf (1985), which is still a well-informed although limited introduction to the topic. The subtitle of Davies' book needs clarification. This is not a history of magic books in general, but a history of a specific type of magic book. As Davies states in his introduction, "grimoires are books of magic,... but not all books of magic are grimoires, for as we shall see, some magic texts were concerned with discovering and using the secrets of the natural world rather than being based on the conjuration of spirits, the power of words, or the ritual creation of magical objects". Although his history is limited primarily to "grimoires" as he understands them, he does touch on magic texts in general and looks at their relationship to the magical aspects of writing itself, including the ritual use of materials in book production and the eventual democratizing of literary magic through print and cheap productions, leaving only illiteracy as an obstacle.
Davies' approach is strictly that of a social historian writing a popular history, not a practitioner of magic. He is more concerned with the social influence of grimoires and any controversies surrounding them than their content (which is generally and lightly touched on) and effectiveness, and he considers the "lineage of magic" as "dubious" (page 11). At the top of his list in terms of "the greatest influence on the modern world of magic and religion" is The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses followed by "the most enduring, influential, and notorious Solomonic book," The Key of Solomon (pages 11&15). Other grimoires discussed include the Picatrix, the Sworn Book of Honorius, the Little Albert, the Grand Grimoire (and a version of it called the Red Dragon), the Book of St Cyprian, the Fourth Book of Occult Philosophy, Francis Barrett's The Magus, the Book of the Sacred Magic of Abra-Melin, and Gerald Gardner's Book of Shadows among others. However, some may be disappointed by the low degree of coverage of certain texts. The American book pirate L. W. de Laurence and his publishing influence, on the other hand, receives ample coverage. Some may also be surprised to find Simon's Necronomicon, which Davies calls "a well-constructed hoax", treated as "no less 'worthy'" as a piece of magical literature than other grimoires. Of this and other Necronomicons he states: "Like other famous grimoires explored in this book, it is their falsity that makes them genuine" (page 268). These type of statements show that although false authorship and fictive elements are used in many grimoires, Davies lacks the discerning eye of a skilled practical magician and more careful scholar of magic.
Given the above caveats, Davies' text is still an enjoyable and informative read. It will certainly introduce some readers to grimoires they did not know existed and provide a historical context for them. For further context, Davies highly recommends Michael D. Bailey's Magic and Superstition in Europe: A Concise History from Antiquity to the Present (2007) as "an ideal companion" (pages 286 and 291 [Note 4]). Like Davies' text, it too has its weaknesses, but each book is strengthened by the other if used together. In addition to being well bound with an attractive dust jacket, Davies' book also contains 27 illustrations, 17 plates on glossy pages, a six-page Epilogue, as well as chapter notes, an index, and a useful Further Reading section. 』
(A great overview but missing modern grimoires) 『This is a very thorough and enjoyable history of grimoires. However, I was disappointed that there was no mention of contemporary books such as those by Chumbley (or anything by Xoanon) or those produced by Scarlet Imprint (as just two examples). There is rich tradition of modern grimoires that could have been reviewed even if only in a page or two. On a purely personal level, and as someone who has studied Crowley academically for over 20 years, I find it unfortunate that the author followed the common party line (seemingly reflecting Crowley scholarship from the 70's) of indicating how evil and pathetic Crowley was. Again, a must read for the academic or the practitioner alike though I would have liked to see some more contemporary sources analyzed.』
