(An Experiment Gone Wonderfully Wrong)

John Keats (y'know, like, the poet) described negative capability as that elusive state of mind, ideal for understanding poetry, "when man is capable of being in uncertainties, mysteries, and doubts without any irritable reaching after fact&reason."

The Urinals were dead on in using that term. This record contains some of the most passionate, mysterious, hilarious punk rock I've ever heard, and after listening to it nigh on ten thousand times it still floors me. As Byron Coley enthuses in the liner notes, the Urinals started out as a three piece joke band in the fall of 1978, playing a few shows in their dorms as an ironic commentary on pop culture, and then got so damn into it that they kept going. Eventually they went all Marxist and changed their name to 100 Flowers ("the Urinals" just wasn't cutting it with the Californian proletariat) but not before cutting this glorious swath of devastation onto wax from 1978-1981.

What we have here are fifty-eight-second shards of punk haiku, deep pseudo-psychedelic meanderings awash with feedback and reverb, howling squalls of murderous, eyes-rolling-furiously-and-teeth-set-on-edge buffoonery ("Salmonella," "Don't Make Me Kill Again") and rumbling, jagged bursts of of subterranean intellectual discontent. And the best cover of the Jetsons theme ever performed.

They floored the Minutemen at the time (who covered "Ack Ack Ack Ack") and if you have any kind of ears on your head they'll floor you. One of my all time favorite records.

P.S. If you like this, go find "100 Years of Pulchritude" (sadly, out of print) by the Urinals Mach II, AKA 100 Flowers. DIDI MAO!
Boy, does this disc bring back memories! These guys, dorm-mates of mine at UCLA, got their start at a talent show in 1978. They followed my roommate, Fred Velez, who wore a Hawaiian shirt and straw hat and strummed Jose Feliciano's "Light My Fire." The Urinals came on in Hawaiian shirts and straw hats, too, but they played fast and loud. John had a threatening edge to his voice, Kjehl beat on his axe like he wanted to break it, and Kevin played a drum kit that looked as if it had once belonged to a 10-year-old boy.

On Halloween, Vitus Matare of the band "The Last" caught their act at another dorm show and offered to record an EP for them. The boys have been "struggling with their instruments" ever since, but the rawness of these early tracks, both from studio EPs and live performances, has an anarchic joy, a fierce vitality, and a quirky cleverness that's hard to beat. Bring on your favorite punk performances; the Urinals' work, well-respected among rock cognoscente, will stand proudly in their company. Buy this CD, packed with delicious slices of frenetic, snarling, home-made, lo-fi, head-banging goodness, and recall what punk once was!
Holy smokes! I can't believe you can get this on Amazon.com. Finally, American freedom and capitalism bring to fruition the possibility that the average person can just get on the Internet, onto a mainstream, very extensive and cool commercial site and purchase one of the finest CD's ever made. That is, assuming you are into punk rock. If yer not, you probably would hate this thing.

Just 3 guys, from UCLA, still in existance after like a 6 year hiatus. This CD contains their original 3 7"s done in 1978 through 1980. In fact, "I'm White and Middle Class" was actually the first punk rock song I ever heard in my life. It came on a one hour a week radio show near midnight and they played some cool New Wave and indie music and stuff like the STOOGES so I kept listening and then, WHAM! this song hit me. It had speed I'd never heard in a song before. It was raw minimalism. A classic trio, impassioned vocals and, well, I was never the same again. I was a punk from that moment till, uh, till now actually. Still listenin' to the stuff. And this CD is one reason.

It's a musical breath of fresh air, again, only if you like slightly quirky, urgent, impassioned punk rock. Included on this release are many punk rock classics including what I've always considered to be the best punk rock song ever, "Ack, Ack, Ack, Ack". The MINUTEMEN made it a staple of their live set. It's a stripped down song that just elevates you (well, it does me, I guess I can't speak for you) with it's total speed, delivery, drive and rush from beginning to it's strong end. And, a course, a classic punk time of like 2 minutes. "I'm a Bug" is another amazing song that just jumps out atcha.

Try to get these original three 7"s. It'd be mightly hard. No need to anymore, the songs (+ more) are all on this magnificent document of early L.A. punk rock. Haven't heard the URINALS? Their latest release is them 20 (heck, more like 25) years later, a more mature presentation, still fun, but it ain't this stuff. And the boys, live, still do some of these songs and, lemme tell ya, it still brings you (yeah, you, me, the dog, all of us) to a state of ecstacy. In fact, these guys are so tight live now, that when they do these old late 70's songs, I believe they sound actually better today, live, then they did back in the late 70's/early 80's cuz Kevin and John, the original drummer/vocalist and guitarist/vocalist have, somehow, actually figured out how to do these classic songs live even tighter than they did back in the day. Yer blowin' it if you don't go see them live.

If you don't buy this CD, sometime, well, you'll just have to do without and I'll be a little sad for you. What I know is that, over the years, even in punk rock, the URINALS have not gotten even close to the recognition of what they accomplished. They were recently mentioned in the great UK music magazine, Mojo, as bein' one of the classic bands from that period. And, to top it all off, this is a true discography. It's got, far as I know, all the vinyl ever released by the URINALS before they became 100 FLOWERS and then, in the later 80's returned to the URINALS name. And, it's got some choice live tracks including some they never released on vinyl. Get this. Or don't and live slightly less completely.

Woo-Hah!!! Got You All In Check is A classic By Busta Rhymes. Back in the day, espically with this track, there was a level of crazy insanity in Busta Rhymes' music (which is why I liked it) that seems to only be there occassionally, which may be why I don't really care for his music now. What happened? It's like his music took Ritalin and clamed down.
The album version made it to the #11 spot on Much Music's "Top 30 Countdown" during the summer of 96' after remaining on the chart for several weeks. This instant classic is listed on Busta's first solo LP and the remixes were usually only heard on radio mix shows and underground mix tapes. I especially enjoy the "Jay-Dee Bounce" remix. The album version instrumental and acapella are extremely rare as they were only released on the promo single. However, ten years later this track still remains one of the greatest of all time.
This was one of the best rap songs of the mid 1990s. This CD features the original version, plus seven remixes. The remixes mostly featured the same rap track, but with different instrumental backing. But "World Wide Remix" features a totally different rap with alternate lyrics, which is a duet by Busta and ODB. And of course, the instrumental versions are just the backing tracks. The "b-side" is "Everything Remains Raw", which is an okay song that appears in it's original version and a version with just the instrumental track.
Man I wish Busta still came like this instead of having that stupid beef with Eminem and 50 Cent against Ja Rule. What is your problem these days Busta at least from 1990-1998 he was tight from the Days of Leaders of the New School through Woo Hah
The original song is catchy, but the remixes are not all that good. Instrumental versions are a nice feature.

Although somewhat pricey, it's cheaper than just the office visit to a doctor, not to mention the lab tests that come with it. Instructions are clear, collection is easy, and in a couple of weeks you get a report returned to you telling you your level of the three hormones and what is considered a normal range. This product really helped me. About five years ago I was suffering from palpitations, hypoglycemia, and extreme anxiety. i'm on my 3rd of these bags -- they tend to last for about 2-3 years, and then the plastic lining starts to crackle and crumble off, and so the structure goes with it.

a great price for a classic look. durable and just the right size for a work or school bag. also, very lightweight, but sturdy.
I've had this bag for about 8 years. Unlike another reviewer, the inner waterproof lining is still in great condition. The only thing worn out on my bag is the huge patch of velcro on the inside of the flap. I'd rather they left off the velcro and used two clasps insead. That and the pocket in the flap needs a couple compartments for keys and other junk. All my stuff pretty much rattles around in the outside pocket. That's why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. Otherwise this is a great bag, and the material wears like iron.

This bag is Great! I bought this bag for my nephew over a year ago and he loves it. The bag looks nearly in the same condition as it was when it arrived. (Works for some pcmcia cards, but not the one I wanted)

The duel adapter is great at first for P2 cards, but it quickly breaks. There is no physical damage that I can see but it routinely stops working. I bought 3 of these (and was very gentle with each) before I gave up on them. I've spoken with several other videographers in New York and they all say the same thing. One told me she always buys them in two's for back up. I've recently noticed some competing brands on the market and I am going to try them out next because I'm sick of the dual adapter.
I've been using it for months with my 16GB Panasonic P2 card and Macbook Pro. Never a glitch. You have to remember to disconnect the Duel from the laptop only when you're done. If you try to reconnect without rebooting the computer, it won't mount (and on a Mac you might get the spinning beach ball of death). However, you CAN remove the P2 card from the Duel (leaving the Duel attached to the computer) and then re-insert the P2 card later (perhaps after shooting more footage) and the card will mount. There is no solid "click" connection between my Macbook Pro slot and Duel, which is a minor annoyance, but I don't know if that's Apple's fault or Duel's.
I bought this so I could use my buffalo high power wireless g wifi pcmcia card with my Dell 1505 laptop which has only an express card slot. No luck, no matter what drivers, installation steps, or configuration settings I try, the wireless will not connect. When the adapter is installed and the wireless card inserted into the adapter, the wireless appears to be recognized by windows XP but never is able to detect any wireless signals.

So for me, this adapter is a $100+ paperweight.

i'm on my 3rd of these bags -- they tend to last for about 2-3 years, and then the plastic lining starts to crackle and crumble off, and so the structure goes with it.

a great price for a classic look. durable and just the right size for a work or school bag. also, very lightweight, but sturdy.
I've had this bag for about 8 years. Unlike another reviewer, the inner waterproof lining is still in great condition. The only thing worn out on my bag is the huge patch of velcro on the inside of the flap. I'd rather they left off the velcro and used two clasps insead. That and the pocket in the flap needs a couple compartments for keys and other junk. All my stuff pretty much rattles around in the outside pocket. That's why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. Otherwise this is a great bag, and the material wears like iron.

However, the information provided by Mr. Nadell was more than sufficient enough for me to successfully start a 2nd business as a pre-employment and tenant backgound check service. Thank you Mr. Nadell for clarifying the FCRA statutes for the layman.
Starts with general info, including the necessity behind pre-employment background checks for employers, citing statistics regarding falsified employment applications, employee theft&lawsuits, employer turnover costs.

Covers: the FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act), with statutes, rules; FTC (Federal Trade Commission) relating to background checks; steps to take before performing a background check, including examples of disclosure forms that violate the law; workplace investigations; electronic signatures; adverse action; timeframes&accuracy of reports; Megan's Law (sex offenders/child molesters); FirstAlert; Social Security Trace; Motor Vehicle Report; References; Credit Reporting; Education Verification; Military Service; Civil Records; Workers' Compensation records; Liens&Judgments; current/past criminal warrants&drug rehab records.

Worked fine on Windows 98, but when loaded into WindowsXP, it wouldn't launch. The developers don't provide any support, so they were no help either.

It's unfortunate, because it did the job that needed to get done, it just didn't do it on a computer newer than 1997.
i bought this kit to make my company business checks, but this software is poorly made by a visual basic intermediate-level developer, probably, and it is somehow impossible to arrange address name payee etc boxes nicely as i want."MyCheckBook"database is not well connected to"BusinessDesigner"database, all graphics are dated(feels like using 90's software). My recomendation is you better buy pre-printed business check by mail order and use Microsoft Money to print out decently.

First time out of the box it worked perfectly. You just need to understand what you are doing. First, because it is a graphic program it REQUIRES 600 DPI. Instructions say this clearly. Trouble occurs if you decide to reset your printer to save ink with a "draft" or "economy" setting, less than 600 DPI. That will cause the merge and MICR to fail. Then, if you change computers or change accounts, you should uninstall the software, remove the "data" files from the "program" file, then reload it. When you uninstall, it leaves "tracks" that confuse the re-installation (conflicting DLLs and other leftovers). Also, after uninstalling, shut off yout PC to completely remove the "tracks".
You do NOT need "magnetic" ink to print checks. Checks are "optically scanned". Yes, it requires a little TLC, but with some care it works fine. Personal phone "help" is expensive so avoid it if possible.
There's bad software, awful software, and"aw just stick a fork in me"rotten software."Mycheck Writer..."by Elibrium falls under the third category.

Installation is painful. Operation gives repeated"...dll failed"errors. Installs a very fussy printer driver called"greatland"(from another company with competing check printing software), which will fail suddenly. Installation also places hundreds of awful fonts in your windows fonts directory, which are not removed through the uninstall process.

After painfully getting an install completed on my laptop in Aug '03, I was able to print using my inkjet for a few months. (No, you don't really need a laser printer and the MICR toner cartridge that they try to sell you. At least I didn't. Banks and businesses had no problems with my inkjet printed checks.)

Then out of the blue, it starts printing my checks without the routing/transit/account number line. Of course, after a few months of use with only limited trouble, I didn't notice. (My awful mistake, of course.) Suddenly, my checks are being returned to me with comments like"The document enclosed is not a legal banking instrument". Great.

I try re-printing the checks, but now the"greatland printer driver"is giving me errors to the effect of"print command received from illegal application. Contact technical support"

I'm on the horn with my bank now to get some regular checks printed. There's no way I'm going to waste my $24 or more on their technical support.

Was working fine with my HP laser and XP, simple record keeping. Then the darn thing started printing checks from 2 months ago instead of the one I wanted to print. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM TO ANYONE. I had to go back and make sure the right check numbers were with the right checks because it was also changing check numbers on me. Tech supoort for $24.95, + per minute fees. Now that takes guts especially on a product that is only 3 months old. Shop around, trust me.
It won't support lasers less than 600 dpi. No were is this disclosed. Didn't find out until I purchased an $80 MICR toner for my printer. Wow! I could have bought 6 boxs of check for the price of the MICR toner alone. Waste of money!
I bought it for win2000. Their print driver doesn't work - doesn't print at all. The company acknowledges the problem on the their web site and gives a "wonderful" recommendation: "Cancel all printing jobs and try again"!...? Their live tech support is [expensive] plus per minute charges. Email support answered in 24 hours and even offered call me. The guy was nice but his advise absolutely useless. After going through the routine of checking my printer's settings he sent a word file with 18 steps instructions. ... The file tells you how to uninstall and, then, reinstall the software. What a brilliant solution!... When I told them that it still didn't work, they sent an email saying, basically, that they know about the problem and have no idea what the hell is going on. Would never buy anything from this company and, hope, neither will you.
