『In 1996, with a plethora of teen horror movies coming out to theaters, one supernatural film that stood out was "The Craft".

The film was directed by Andrew Fleming ("Grosse Pointe", "Paranormal Girl", "Dick") and featured a story written by Peter Filardi ("Flatliners", "Salem's Lot"). Joining the two are composer Grame Revell ("Pineapple Express", "The Ruins", "The Condemned", "Eleventh Hour") and cinematographer Alexander Gruszynski ("The In-Laws", "Nancy Drew" and "Madea Goes to Jail").


VIDEO&AUDIO:

"The Craft" is presented in 1080p High Definition (1:85:1). For a film that was released in 1996, "The Craft" actually looks good for being nearly 13-years-old. The film is not exactly vibrant nor do you see tons of detail but the film does manage to retain the film's grain and blacks are nice and deep. If anything, outdoor scenes manages to look nice, colorful and bright but for the most part, it's a good transfer but nothing that would be scene as reference or spectacular.

As for audio, this is where things get interesting. "The Craft" is one of the few Blu-ray releases in 2009 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment to utilize an a 5.1 DTS-HD MA lossless track instead of DolbyTrue HD. The film gives a choice of English, French and Portuguese lossless tracks but what I was truly impressed by is how immersive the soundtrack for this film was.

So far, Sony has done a good job of bringing out the audio track for 90's films this year such as "Air Force One" and now, the same can be said with "The Craft". From lighting, to rain, ambient noises, conversations in the background and crickets, you hear it utilized quite nicely through the surround channels.

The sound effects really are utilized through the surround channels. So, the film goes beyond the front and center channel speakers for dialogue and music. Also, you'll notice some scenes utilizing LFE quite a bit, so overall, fans of the film will truly enjoy the lossless soundtrack of "The Craft".

Subtitles are presented in English, English SDH, French, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Koeran and Thai.

SPECIAL FEATURES

"The Craft" comes with the following special features (all presented in standard definition and in English stereo/English Mono with English, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese and Thai subtitles):

* Director's Commentary - Director Andrew Fleming's audio commentary about "The Craft". Fleming is good at discussing certain parts of the film and how they had a technical adviser who runs a large covenant of witches, thus lending accuracy to the film.
* Conjuring the Craft - (24:33) A featurette featuring the screenwriter, director and producer along with the talent talking about the film and their experiences on working about the film. Also, how the crew hired an actual witch to help in the consulting of the film.
* The Original "Behind the Scenes of The Craft" - (6:00) Featuring the cast and director talking about the film and their characters. Plus clips from the film.
* Deleted Scenes with Optional Commentary - Deleted scenes which include: Healing Bonnie, Confrontation and Nancy performs magic. Optional commentary of why the scenes were cut by Director Andrew Fleming.

JUDGMENT CALL:

"The Craft" was a pretty solid supernatural thriller back in 1996 and even over a decade later, the film continues to be entertaining and fun. Nor does it try to approach the supernatural or witchcraft storyline in a lame manner.

For the most part, very solid performances by Fairuza Balk, Robin Tunney, Neve Campbell and Rachel True. The film was before Neve Campbell became well-known for "Party of Five" and Fairuza Balk before "The Waterboy" but the crew did a good job in selecting Fairuza Balk (who is familiar with wicka) as the main antagonist of the film. Balk somehow has this dark look to her in the film but for the most part, she did a fantastic job portraying Nancy Downs. It was interesting to find out through the special features that Balk was familiar with witchcraft and that the director and producers felt that she embodied the role of Nancy. And of course, for the role of our main protagonist, Robin Tunney did a fantastic job playing the role of the protagonist Sarah Bailey.

"The Craft" definitely receives a solid picture and audio transfer. But as mentioned in the video&audio portion, the fact that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is testing out the DTS-HD Master Audio codec with this release is quite interesting. I am starting to prefer the DTS-HD Master Audio for lossless audio and for this film, it definitely made the film much more enjoyable as the sound effects really utilize the surround channels. In fact, one time I thought there was a cricket in my house but it was actually from the film.

Overall, "The Craft" was an enjoyable film featuring a solid screenplay, good choice of casting and for the most part, giving an edge to this dark teenage film. Although the film is Rated-R, the film is by no means is "The Craft" a slasher film nor is their nudity. But for fans who truly enjoyed this film, "The Craft" definitely gets a solid HD release on Blu-ray. Definitely worth checking out!』

If your creative batteries are running low or if you want to see examples of how people live/think differently through their art, you should watch this DVD.

There are so many talented, dedicated artists in this series, and I love how idiosyncratic and unconventional they are. They live outside the mainstream and yet their work is such a part of who were are as Americans. Potter David Gurney, Jewelry maker Kit Carson and so many others will leave you wanting more out of the way you live your life and interact with the world around you. They may inspire you to live more artfully.

『I wrote this review because I saw that it was getting such low reviews because it was being compared to the now discontinued "Xtah Crude Clay" To be fair, I have never used it, but that's also why I thought it might be helpful to have a review that wasn't biased with the former users of Xtah Crude Clay.

This is an EXCELLENT product. First, let me describe my hair and style that I wanted to achieve. I am a male with short to medium hair length (3.5 inches at the longest areas), very fine and soft so that there is no volume whatsoever, but I wanted to achieve the carefully placed messed up, voluminous look, where the hairs are clumped together, the kind you find in luxury magazine layouts. And this did the trick!

The texture of this stuff is like hard clay/wax. it's super hard, so you have to dig it out and then rub it out in your palm or finger tips first and then when it's just a paste in your fingers you can just work it into your hair. there is no residue, no scent, and it doesn't leave it hard or crunchy and it washes out easily. so basically i thought it was an amazing product cuz everything else i tried didn't have the strength to clump my hair together. i tried bumble and bumble, bed head, and then cheaper brands like gatsby (the japanese one). bumble and bumble just didn't have the power to keep my hair clumped, bed head didn't have the power to keep my hair voluminous and gatsby was powerful but my hair didn't move at all... it's like glue that dries...

i don't know how good Xtah crude clay was, but if THIS product is getting a 2 star in comparison to Xtah crude clay, then it must have been fantastic beyond belief.

Bottom Line: this is great for holding up hair if you want it to spike it some places, curl off the side in others and do a messed up look with solid clumping effect, without the crunchy, shiny, or oiliness. and it is definitely a strong hold.』

I have short hair, and I want a product that can shape and hold it without looking greasy. After trying many products, I settled on "Sebastian Xtah Raw Modeler Crude Clay" many years ago. I was disappointed to learn that it was discontinued.
So a couple months ago I searched for a replacement. I bought 3 products and tried varying amounts of each for several days. "Alterna Hair Concrete" is not too bad, but not as good as the crude clay. "Redken Rough Clay 20" is pointless.
I'm happy to say that the "Sebastian Craft Clay" is as good as the Xtah Crude Clay. It's a little thicker and takes more effort to work evenly through hair, but the hold and finish is on par with the original.
Price per ounce is way up though. Packaging is improved, not that it matters.

『My husband and I used Xtah Crude Clay for years, and then suddenly it was discontinued. So we decided to try out this new product (what we assume is a replacement) and were sorely disappointed. It's not that it's terrible -- it's just average. It's like any of a hundred similar products that does an okay job.

Crude Clay was particularly good at holding thinner hair in place, but this makes my hair limp and just a bit oily to be honest. We purchased it once, and it will be the only time we make that mistake. I really, really wish Sebastian would have a strong-holding product similar to Crude Clay. If not, we're going to have to go elsewhere.

I noticed Sebastian is putting out Matte Putty in July 2009, so we may give that one a try.』

『I bought a purple light with the adaptor. My main desire was to use it to read during my morning carpool commute to work. I loved this product so much that I bought three as gifts and am ready to buy one more.

There are three versions of this light offered for sale. One is just the light. One includes an adaptor. One includes batteries. The light does require 3 AAA batteries if the adaptor is not being used. I've found it available in blue, green, silver, black, purple and pink. There is also a Kindle version.

I have been using this light for over a month and am still using the same batteries. I have yet to use the adaptor. The batteries are more convenient for me. I had purchased rechargable batteries and a charge but haven't broken into them yet.

There are two lights on this product and three light settings. The left, right or both lights can be used. The neck is flexible so that it is easy to move to a position that actually sheds light on the entire page (if not two pages). It is bright. My husband still complains when I read in bed with it...however, it doesn't bother my carpool driver.

The clip is large and will easily attach to hardcovers. I usually clip it to the top of the pages that I've already read. When reading mass market paperbacks, I try to clip it to as large of a hunk of pages as possible because I don't like the light to move around.

A very useful product. Make sure to buy only what you need. As I did pay extra for an adaptor and just don't use it at all.』

A year ago, I purchased an expensive professional roll laminator and it quit working. For a few days I did some research on laminators and this was one of the few that did 7 and 10 mil for which I constantly work at these settings. I was surprise to find this one for about half the money. It takes about 4 minutes to heat up even for the 10 mil setting. It laminates fast and precise and I am very satisfied with this product. I read the simple directions and was at work in about 10 minutes. Easy to maintain, especially the hinged cover that exposes the path of the work piece at the very top, to correct any paper/pouch jams. I personally would recommend this unit to any out there that is interested in a low cost unit and very dependable. Oh yes, you do have to run the 7 and 10 mil pouches through twice to get a good bond. Do it immediately on the second time while the pouch is hot, it gives you a smooth nice looking product. Also I use 32 lb paper which at the end looks very professional. I make hundreds of various book markers and other items for our church.』

『I did a lot of research on laminators and this was one of the few that did up to 10 mil and was not a huge amount of money. It takes less than 5 minutes to heat up even for the 10 mil setting. Less time on the thinner pouches. It laminates fast and precise and I am very satisfied with this product. I have used a professional roll laminator in the past and this puts out a product just as good as that. I have not tried the cold setting yet or put in any pouch larger than the letter size but I see no reason that even the 12 x 18 menu size would not laminate just as perfect. Simple directions to follow to use as well as maintain. I would not hesitate to recommend this to any of my friends.』

『We've gone through 5 laminators in the past 4 years at our office. This one is the best, by far, of the ones we've owned. Yes, there is a screw you need to remove (although our manuals did say to do so) but that is to protect the unit in transit.

Best feature, by far, for me is that the unit opens so you can remove jams without removing screws and trying to take it apart!! Yeah!! The settings are a bit off in that our 3mil pouches require the 5mil setting to work right but that is a small quibble when you have a unit that lasts, works, and is easy to fix when something jams!』

I try to give my apollo to my childs and i take my deskjet 3200 for real stuff. Its a lot of ink for my kids but a little slow for them. My kids, ages 3&5, have both enjoyed it and can follow the simple, clear directions for each project. There are lots of drawings, including some fun seasonal&holiday-related options.

I noticed my son's pre-K teacher uses it in her classroom. The drawings are done in simple steps, and leave plenty of room for creativity while helping kids build skills in shape recognition, following directions, and attention to detail. Kids in the 3-6 range seem to do really well with this book.

I especially appreciate that each page has ample room to try the drawing. This is great when space is short, or for kids who have a hard time balancing a book&separate piece of paper.

『When I ordered this tablet, I assumed I was just getting your standard fare. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there was also a touch feature, which is very similar to that of a laptops touchpad. I was really impressed with both the speed and accuracy of the touch features. My one caveat was that I couldn't get the backwards or forwards to work in my browser.

Installation was a snap. The installer was intuitive, and even installed a very handy tutorial application. While extremely useful and informative with animations demonstrating the various features (useful for multi-touch), I found that even on my high-end computer the tutorial was taking a lot of resources. Thankfully the Bamboo Craft is easy-to-learn, so I didn't have to constantly keep the tutorial running.

The size was quite perfect for my needs, and it was a good size to work with for the pen. I found the pen to be precise, and have no issues with it. Three nibs come with the set. The cloth holder for the pen on the side is very handy, and sturdy. I did have some difficulty removing the pen from it at times, however, I'm sure over time it will loosen up to the point where insertion and removal are a breeze.

I would have preferred to have the programmable buttons on the bottom so that I could more intuitively use my thumb to press them, much like I would on a laptop.』

『I have a MacPro and I've wanted a touch interface for awhile. I tried the Apple Magic Mouse but I was not pleased with the Bluetooth lag or the ergonomics (I actually liked the old Mighty Mouse... so keep that in mind). I bought the Wacom thinking it might do the trick even though I read a few reviews that made it seem 'gimmicky'. After using the tablet for a couple of hours I have disconnected my mouse... I'm exclusively using the tablet with my MacPro. The size of the craft is perfect for my needs and the pen input is a huge bonus. I'm not sure if this will remain a permanent fixture but it's an interesting interface to the MacPro and creative types will definitely find a use for it.』

(I'm using the touch pad, and loving it)
『I've never used tablet or pen technology with my PC or iMac, and have just installed the Wacom Bamboo Craft on my iMac today. Although I hope to learn to use the pen functions in the future, my focus now is on using the touch pad. I have a lukewarm attitude toward touch pads, no doubt a result of mixed experiences with them on different notebook computers. But I'm prone to hand and wrist discomfort from too much repetitive motion at the computer - in my case from the mouse more than the keyboard. As much as I like my Kensington SlimBlade Trackball Mouse with Bluetooth Wireless (Graphite) K72281US, I thought that having a touchpad option for my iMac and other computers would provide a welcome change for my hands and fingers.

The tablet installed easily on my iMac, as did the driver update which was easy to find on the Wacom website. I enjoyed the tutorial, and although I'm saving the pen functions for the future, I went through that part too.

I have been using the tablet instead of the mouse to navigate with my browser, and finding it easy although I'm still new at it. The tablet is sleek and quite a nice complement to my iMac, and I like the size. It's small enough to fit onto my desk, but large enough to be workable with the iMac's 24 inch screen. I've been using the touch functions of the tablet instead of the mouse to compose this review, instead of automatically reaching for the mouse. If I can get into the multi-touch pad habit, I may reduce my ibuprofen consumption - such as it is - caused by painful hands. The Bamboo Craft costs more than ibuprofen, but preventing recurrence of hand and wrist discomfort is, as the commercials say, priceless.

I can see from my research, including the reviews on this product page, that this product has much more to offer than the rather basic tasks I'm using it for at this time. However, I would encourage anyone who'd like a change from constant mouse use, to consider a product like this one, with its multi-touch pad capability - even if you don't get a model which, like this one, also has the pen functions.』

『I have been an avid user of Wacom products for almost a decade now and for digital artwork, I still use my Intuous 3 Graphic Tablet. But now I have a new Wacom tablet known as the Bamboo Craft, part of Wacom's latest line of budget-priced Bamboo tablets (from lowest to highest in price: (all black) Bamboo Pen, Bamboo Touch and Bamboo Pen&Touch. And over the $100 range are the Bamboo Craft and Bamboo Fun in metallic silver).

The Bamboo Craft are for those who want a tablet for their Mac or PC and all that is required is that you have a USB port and the room/table space to place your tablet.

The Bamboo Craft is about 9.8 x 6.9 (with the active area at 5.8 x 3.6). For those that need something larger, the Bamboo Fun is about 13.3 x 8.8 (with an active area about 8.5 x 5.4). Note: This is very important, it's great to have more active area space (I believe the bigger the better) but having owned several in the past, what I've learned is that it also comes down to your desk working area and sometimes having something too big may not be practical. Also, purchase a tablet that works with your budget.

I. INSTALLATION&TRAINING

Install of the software on both the PC and Mac are quite easy. After install, you can partake in a few training lessons on how to use your fingers (aka Multi-touch) and use the tablet like a mouse. You can click on the pad, like you would click on a mouse to achieve point, click and move. You can also use your finger to navigate and use the buttons to click. Two fingers to zoom or right click. Motioning your hands clockwise or counter clockwise to spin and rotate an image. And of course, a pressure sensitive pen which you can do the same thing but also take part in making handwritten notes via ink (or your graphic design software) and also for your artwork. Also, the buttons and movements can be customized via control panel or system preferences (via PC or Mac).

I tested this on my Mac G4 with OS 10.5 (it will work with 10.4.8 or higher) and also my iMac (10.6) and it worked fine. Tested it on Windows XP (w/ Service Pack 2) and it works fine (it also works with windows 7 and Vista).

For those who suffer carpal tunnel, mouse finger or tendonitis, a Bamboo Craft (or lower device like the Bamboo Touch) can definitely make things easier on your hands. And it's not hard to use, the training on how to use the Bamboo tablet is comprehensive and easy.

II. Ink and accompanying software

For those who want to leave sticky notes, a hand recognition and art software known as Ink is included. But this software may be a bit basic for some people and so the good news is that if you don't own Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter, the Bamboo Craft comes with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0 (Windows) and 6.0 (Mac), Corel Painter Essentials 4.0) and Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 WE3. And for many people that don't need all the other advance parts of the more expensive software, this software is all they need.

You also get a DVD with 26 scrapbooking lessons from Jane Conner-ziser and a library of digital craft embellishments. A free 8x8 photo album from Shutterfly, a free online store from Cafe Press, a free one year subscription to Scrapbooking&Beyond Magazine and free online training with [...].

III. TESTS

I managed to test out the Bamboo Craft on the web and scrolling, going back, cut and paste were easy using the tablet. The pressure sensitive pen is also easy to use. I tested it on Adobe Photoshop CS3 and also on Corel Painter 8 (and I'm sure they work perfectly on CS4 and CP10). Pressure sensitive pen works perfectly.

It's important to note that learning a pen for digital painting or work, takes some time. Learning how to use a tablet and the pen to use more paint and less paint takes time, so don't expect to paint something incredible the first time using the pen if you are a beginner. Be patient and practice. If your main drive is to paint, I highly recommend with a larger tablet such as an Intuous but for basics, the Bamboo Fun may be all that you need since its larger than the Craft but if you don't have the room, the Craft may be perfect for you. Of course, if you want to go hardcore and want the best (and very expensive in the $1000-$2,000 range), Wacom offers the Cintiq which has the actual digital screen display on the tablet and are magnificent.

And there is no need to worry as it won't conflict with your keyboard, mouse or any other device.

JUDGMENT CALL:

For a budget device and for all the bells and whistles it comes with, the Wacom's Bamboo Craft is a wonderful device for multi-touch, writing, creative artwork, painting, etc. I truly believe those with hand problems such as carpal tunnel, tendinitis or mouse finger will find these Bamboo touchpads much to their liking and creative artists, all that they need until they can upgrade to an Intuous or a Cintiq.

Again, for those on a budget, I recommend the Bamboo Fun for its size but the Bamboo Craft and other lower-priced Bamboo tablets may be all that you need, depending on what the need is or what kind of work you will be doing on it.

But I've owned quite a few Wacom tablets right now and I remember back then, the budget and basic release of Wacom tablet's were simple but these Bamboo tablets....the sleek look, what they are capable of and all that is offered with it is pretty awesome. So, if you are looking into this device is highly recommended.』

『I was a little skeptical about this tablet, since I'm not really fond of gimmicks or excessive gadgetry, but thought I would give it a try, as my old Wacom Intuos is getting a little long in the tooth.

But I love this tablet! It's the perfect size to go with a notebook computer, and the touch pad is so much more comfortable than that little one on most laptops. I was already very familiar with the pen from my old Intuos, and it works just the same, exactly like a normal pen would. You can either use a little button on the pen to double-click, or just touch the pen to the surface. It's a wonderful invention that I love.

As for the multi-touch part of the tablet, I actually like that part as well. I watched the tutorials to get the hang of it, but it was pretty easy. The only gesture that was not intuitive for me was dragging a file or folder. I had to look that one up, and at first I couldn't get it, but after using the tablet for an hour I felt like a pro. At first I thought the tablet wasn't sensitive enough and was pressing too hard, but after a while I got the hang of how to touch it. If anything, now I would say it's a little too sensitive and I have to be careful not to touch the screen excessively or rest my fingers on the screen.

The thing I love the most about the multi-touch, and what I use it most for, is browsing on the web. The scroll gesture is very intuitive and so easy, and the gesture to move to a previous web page is genius. It really is cool and easy to use. It feels like you're flipping through actual paper pages.

This product comes with bundled software like Painter Essentials and Photoshop Elements, which are perfect complements to the tablet and pen. I already had similar products on my computer so didn't download these. I don't think the pen is as sensitive as that on the beefier Intuos tablets, but I don't know how important that would be if you're just using this tablet for casual use, as I intend to.

This tablet definitely exceeded my expectations, I'm very happy with it. I do have one thing I wish was different -- I wish that I could resize a window by dragging the corner. I wasn't able to do that (or at least, I couldn't figure out how), yet that's something I constantly do on my computer screen.』

『I just got this set of cookie cutters and was pleasantly surprised when I received them. They're great! I ordered these and the Wilton Halloween/Fall set of 9 and both are perfect!

These are well-made, which Wilton always is, and the perfect size for cookies. Not too small, and not huge like some tend to be. Perfect!

『My 3-1/2 year old son was showing some interest in "silver money," starting to want to help pay for items and collect the change. I decided to get him a video, but I didn't know whether he would be old enough to enjoy or understand this one. After previewing it on the Rock 'n' Learn web site, I sprung for it on Amazon -- and my boy LOVES it! He started out just repeatedly watching the first 5 minutes or so (a gripping narrative about "Penny Money" and "Bill Dollar" rehearsing for a gig, blowing a speaker, and needing money to repair it)... and quickly started watching it in longer and longer sessions. He now sits raptly through the entire hour if I let him. He has learned to distinguish pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollar coins. (In fact, we made a special trip to the bank to get a Sacajawea dollar, and it was the highlight of his day.)

This video has also taught him some key math concepts, like counting to 100 ($1.00) by twos (this is how they recommend counting pennies), by fives, by 10s, and by 25s. He now knows the names and faces of all the people on currency up to $100. And he is learning how to actually count up coins and make change! He sings the catchy, silly little tunes from the DVD frequently, and recites Bill and Penny's groan-worthy vaudeville-style puns by memory. The best part is that he's thrilled to be learning big-boy concepts that he sees adults dealing with, he's highly motivated to understand more and more, and he delights in showing off his new math and money knowledge to anyone who'll listen.

If you're trying to teach your child about money or basic mathematics, I heartily recommend supplementing this video with the Learning Resources Teaching Cash Register. After about a week with the video, I gave my boy the cash register, and he has played with it for HOURS each day for a couple weeks now. It's really helped reinforce the counting-money concept, and his friends, aged from 2 to 12, also love the thing.』

『In Rock `N Learn's Money&Making Change, computer animated hosts Penny (a go-go boot-sporting penny) and Bill (a dollar bill) introduce children over the age of six to all of the skills and concepts needed to perform simple money counting and change making skills. The 54 minute DVD opens with Penny and Bill in a bit of a conundrum - these rockers have blown their speaker and need to find a way to replace it before their big show! In their quest to replace or repair the speaker they need to count their money and discover if they have enough.

The stage is set for introducing the coins and lower bills of American currency and sharing some of the history of the composition and weights of each coin. Bill and Penny then proceed to teach the standard techniques for counting pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and half dollars using primarily skip counting, with an introduction to grouping techniques. The coins slide across the screen as they are counted, providing a visual similar to that experienced when counting money.

All of the common equivalencies are taught, such as 20 nickels equals one dollar, and extensive practice is given in counting money. A brief introduction to writing money is also included, covering using words, dollar signs, decimal places and cent signs. Shopping simulations are used to teach how to determine if enough money is on hand to make purchases, and a garage sale simulation is used to teach how to make change. With such a wealth of concepts taught, Money&Making Change is a comprehensive teaching tool for dealing with currency. An easy to use navigational menu makes it easy to focus in on specific lessons and practice sessions.

Even though we're Canadians, we love this DVD; it's one of my six-year-old's favourites. The teaching segments are interspersed with rock-inspired tunes, and at the end of the disc children are rewarded with a short performance from Penny, Bill, and their band, "The Changemakers". The songs included on the disc feature money-focused lyrics and are heavy on guitar riffs living up to the name Rock `N Learn. They never fail to get our children dancing and clapping.

Viewers familiar with Rock `N Learn's older DVD's will appreciate the improved animation quality on this newer disc. The characters are more three-dimensional and express a wider range of lateral motion and fine motor movements. With the higher production quality and an ongoing narrative throughout the disc, we've been seeing a lot of Penny and Bill on our television screen.

My children aren't the only ones who are impressed. I love the quality of the animation - it's wonderful for an educational DVD, and the fun, light-hearted theme and examples have made the disc my six-year-old's favourite, so how can I not love it? So much educational value is packed into the DVD that I'm sure it's a resource our family will be using for years to come.

『My 4 year old has watched this maybe 6 times in the year we've had it (usually upon my suggestion). It is okay. It's a decent learning tool, but certainly not as entertaining as Leap Frog or the Magic School Bus. And, with small kids, if it's not entertaining, it's probably not going to get much time off of the shelf in order to get into the brain.』

(Don't be short-changed)
『This DVD teaches kids aged six and up how to recognize and count American currency, with a focus on the coins.

The presenters of this musical cartoon are Penny Money (get it 007 fans?) and Bill Dollar. Penny is a coin (naturally) and wears high topped boots that go a lot further than she can, while Bill rocks it with his bass guitar.

After meeting Penny and Bill, the next video introduces the clinkable coinage, describing the features and sizes. It includes the JFK half-dollar, the silver Susan B. Anthony dollar and the golden Sacajawea dollar, as well as the Presidential dollar coins.

The DVD goes on to count pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars and bills, before teaching notation, equivalents, and how to separate your money for counting. Counting practice continues with a couple of games, and then the DVD wraps up with a section on making change before the closing music video.

If you're not from the USA, but use coins with similar denominations, some parts of the DVD can be used to teach counting and making change, but the focus here is on US currency.

This is a good tool for teaching kids how to be penny wise.

By and large it seemed so many Canadian groups excelled at countering the Indie-USA insurgency in multiple sub-genres. Stars became known world wide right from the first track of their third release, balancing emotional pop with sincere songwriting. Even with some less than stellar electronic influence, the material remains generally engaging, often pretty, but with a clearly weaker second side that shows limitation.』

(One of my favorite albums.)
『Let me start by saying this is one of my favorite albums ever; and that's saying something. Considering how much music I listen to, declaring favorites is no easy task.

I discovered this album like I've discovered many other albums, through my hometown library system. I had vaguely heard that the band Stars was good, and so I requested that my library hold this for me. When I went to pick it up, I saw a friend who casually questioned me as to what CDs I was checking out. When he saw that I was getting Set Yourself on Fire, he said, "oh, that's a good one."

How right he was.

It starts off with a fantastic song, "My Ex-lover Is Dead." Stars likes to incorporate quotes in some of their songs (other albums do this as well), and this album is no exception, starting with a raspy, crackly recording of a man saying, "when there is nothing left to burn you have to set yourself on fire." Then a gorgeous tune ensues, stunningly beautiful, followed by a lovely cello (I think) part that flows into Torquil Campbell's vocals. The song is about seeing a former lover for the first time in years, capturing the sadness and beauty of it.

Much of this album is about lost love, or love in general. The band is quite romantic in its lyrics, and unbashful when dealing with death, love and sex. Stars is at their best here when they simplify things. Two of the best songs on the album ("One More Night (Your Ex-Lover Remains Dead)" and "The Big Fight") are largely bass, drums, and vocals. They gently roll along with a constant dialogue between Torquil and the other singer Amy Millan.

In fact, one of my favorite aspects of Stars is the interplay between the male vocalist (Torquil) and the female vocalist (Amy). Unlike most modern music, which seems like a one-sided view of things, this feels more like a story that is unfolding while the music is playing. It helps that I adore both of their voices; they are so sincere.

Another strength of this album is the production. It feels fantastically intimate (especially on nice headphones). The vocals are rich and forward sounding, and the drums, piano, cello, guitar, are all clear and present as well.

Other highlights of the album are "Calendar Girl", the introspective closer about death and the beauty of life, "Ageless Beauty", which almost seems out of place with its busy guitars, but is gorgeous nonetheless, and "What I'm Trying To Say", presenting the anxiousness and excitement of declaring love.

But really, the entire album is just fantastic. Highly, highly recommended.』

『The album starts off with "When you have nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire." Very strong sadist statement, strangely enough, the lyrics of all the songs are simply enough to make the message across: Love sucks, regardless you have given it all or not.
I was first introduced to the song "One More night" by an old friend of mine, he said it was best listened after a breakup, so I did, it made me cry. It had so much impact I couldn't listen to the song for few days. Then few days later, I popped the CD back in my CD drive, and I haven't taken it out yet.』

『Honestly I had hesitated to listen to this band because I had heard that weren't as great as billed. Fortunately I listened to this album. This is an amazing record, not all the songs are perfect but there is more good than bad. "your ex-lover is dead," is one of the most beautiful songs that I have heard in awhile. "Reunion" takes me back to the days of high school and my impending high school reunion. "celebration guns," one of the darkest songs on the album, but it still has so much hope in it. "soft revolution," and "calender girl" close out the album with gusto and beautiful lyrics. I think everyone should at least listen to this record once, they won't regre it.』

(A rock record with poppiness)
『In many ways, a band like Stars, Broken Social Scene or the New Pornographers somehow manage to make very accessible records without feeling like they were recorded solely because they knew it would sell. Sure songs on this record are quite hooky yet you can instantly tell the difference between these songs or ones from say Good Charlotte or a Simple Plan. Stars last release before it got the remix treatment, Set Yourself on Fire is a very likable record and easy to sing along with and love, that is if you want to.

The album starts off with "Your Ex-Lover is Dead" with vocalists Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan trading verses before they come together at the end. This is an example of a song that gets in your head despite the lack of a proper "chorus" that repeats. "Ageless Beauty" was the big hit of the record and while musically it's quite basic, it's propelled largely by Millan's vocals which are quite ethereal in a way on the song. "Reunion" is another likable track largely sung by Campbell with Millan adding in some flavor. This is another one of those catchy tracks that will become a favorite over time. The rest of the songs are just as memorable although, some like "The First Five Times" aren't that stellar.

My absolute favorite track on the record and probably of their career is the album closer, "Calendar Girl". When taken at face value, lyrically it's very honest in that "life sucks but I'm trying" message and musically it's really 3 chords but damn if Millan doesn't sing it beautifully. When she sings the line "I'm alive" at the end, you're almost not sure if she's celebrating this fact or she's just pointing out the irony considering the subject matter: living without nothing special about it.

Like a lot of bands with duel vocalists, you tend to prefer one over the other (aside from everyone's fav Fab Four). In this case, Millan has one of the best female voices in rock today but Campbell, while no slouch in his own right, doesn't really have the emotive power Millan brings. Kind of reminds me of Oasis' Gallagher bros. with Noel being the more range-y singer but Liam being the most emotive. Granted, a lot of songs on here such as The Big Fight or Your Ex-Lover is Dead work for the trade-offs but when they're primarily Campbell-led, such as the aforementioned "First Five Times" or "He Lied About Death", despite Millan's additions, don't work as well.

All in all, it's probably one of the best records they've done and one of the better "pop rock" releases lately.』
『Sure they look pretty and sound pretty and all, but is this Montreal-based quartet ever going to amount to much, you know in the course of "rock history"? Very likely, if their captivating third album,Set Yourself on Fire, is any indication. Vocalists Amy Millan and Torquil Campbell have never harmonized better together, and the whole keyboard-heavy band is at that delectable place where they transcend their influences. Great pop music is not about "originality" (nor has it ever much been); it's a passionate marriage of idea and conviction. Sure, you can still hear the mark of Beulah, the Smiths, New Order, Broken Social Scene and Super Furry Animals in their songs. But the group has never been as confident with their marriage of lush, exuberant dreampop and dark, clever lyrics as they are here.--Mike McGonigal』

As it was, the camera couldn't seem to hold still long enough to show exactly what some of the moves were. It was all over the place. I learned a few moves, but this video seemed more like an infomercial or testimony rather than an instruction video. Too much talking and not enough instruction. Over all, they teach 3 hip roles, but claim to teach 4. The fourth one is the same as the first one, just on your knees instead of standing.
I wouldn't have bought the video had I been able to see a preview of it first.』

The women portrayed on this DVD range from young to middle-aged (maybe 20 - 50 or even 60 years old). Leah, who was a professional exotic dancer, demonstrates each move and then the participants follow - and you go allong and practice together with them. Each participant also discusses the moves that were easy or particularly challenging for her and what did she do to help her overcome them.

Other than spicing up their love life, for most women in this video / DVD, going through the process of learning exotic dancing has contributed to increased level of confidence and self-esteem.

That's exactly what my garage needed, a solid workbench. It was easy to build. The legs are extremely strong and well designed. All the parts were there in the box even some extra screws. I recommend it for any garage.』

『It doesn't seem like these cheap looking plastic legs would be any good, but once you strap the wood to them, it's way stronger than anything you can normally get at that price. All ad all you can expect to pay 160-240 depending on the quality of wood you get and how many shelves you decide to put in.

The screw system makes the difference. The designers placed the holes at an angle that pulls the wood tight and flush, which means you don't need clamps to assemble it properly.

It's really nice that you get to choose the wood of your choice. I used a really nice piece of maple on top and a cheap piece of melamine on the bottom.

The bonus shelf links worked great for me as a secondary small workbench for my grinder and belt sander. so really you are getting two sets in one! I'm ordering a second set of legs for a neon pumping manifold.

(Need workbench? It doesn't get any easier than this!)
『I have built a number of workbenches in the past using both stamped steel legs (usually with pre-fab HPL countertops) and lumber and none of them came out as good as the very solid and sturdy one I just put together this past weekend using this fabulous system. I'm in the process of outfitting a new 14x20 post-and-beam barn/woodshop and wanted workbenches across the entire 14' rear wall so I decided to give 2x4basics a try. I'm glad that I did as I could not be happier with my decision. Having someone to help would make it even easier but it's a very doable job by yourself. Simply cut your 2x4s to length, screw them into the legs (included screws work just fine), mount your shelves and top and you're in business! I used "premium" 2x4s from HD to make my 78"W x 25 5/8" D workbench with full depth bottom and half-depth middle shelves of 3/4" plywood. I added vertical 2x4s on the front at both ends and in the middle for mounting the doors that I plan to add after "enclosing" the sides and rear with masonite. Sealed and stained the 2x4s and plywood and finished them with clear polyurethane. My top is a 1 1/8" thick solid beech countertop from IKEA ($59) that I glued to the 2x4s with Liquid Nail and then screwed down from the bottom with 2 1/4" deck screws (sort of a belt and suspenders approach). I mounted the included clamps to the front legs (nice little bonus and very easy to install) and will put together the 2nd workbench this coming weekend and then enclose both and make and mount their cabinet doors. I'll be building some shelving on top of the workbenches using the included ShelfLinks brackets. All in all a very sturdy well-designed system that will result in workbenches and shelving that is second to none.』

The VersaPak line of tools all use this battery, and their main advantage is freedom from "memory," which keeps you from getting a full recharge. But the Gold version lasts half again as long as the standard batteries, meaning longer use and longer battery life in the long run. Black&Decker tells us that these batteries will take 300 charges, but we've heard of them lasting long past that. 『I have an 18 month old little girl and she's always getting her clothes dirty :( because she likes to feed herself. I bought this smock thinking it was a bib. However I am not disappointed I will be using it as a bib and also for when she colors . I love how long it is it covers most of her pants as well as her top. I couldn't have asked for a better bib at a better price.』

『I bought 2 of these smocks about a year ago. We only use them for messy crafts, but they have held up well, wash after wash. I do wish they had a velcro neck closure, as my older son says the tie is a little itchy. Excellent long sleeved coverage, which can be difficult to find. I bought these when my oldest was about 2 1/2. Now that he is 3 1/2, I am not sure how much longer he will be wearing it - and he is of average weight and height, so I think this runs small. I am not sure it would go up to Age 5 for most kids as the manufacturer states.』

『Excellent bib for water play or messy eaters. It's light, flexible, doesn't have any PVC, and is easy to clean. It's almost as long as the "super bib." Not the cutest pattern, but others are available for a bit more money. If you just want one for mealtimes and don't need sleeves, go for the "super bib" that goes down to the ankles.』

(problem with hooks)
『I ordered three of these and the canvas portion looks sturdy and well made but the hoods DO NOT work on standard doors. They are too small and stick up to high to close the door. Contacted the manufactuer and got a prompt reponse but they do not offer larger hooks. They are useless to me. Also had to wait three weeks to receive.』

『This would have been a great bargain except for the profoundly irritating absence of the hanging hooks that were supposed to be enclosed. Since another reviewer had the same criticism, maybe this is something Amazon should look into.』

(doesn't work on newer construction doors)
『The hangers on this are about 1 1/4" deep for hanging. My doors are 1 3/8", being new construction with good quality standards. The hooks are pretty strong, so there's no way to bend them and make them fit. And no way to close the door. Instead, I now need to touch up the paint at the top of the door from where I attempted to make the hooks fit.

Also, if you have higher ceilings with the not uncommon 8' doors, you'd need a ladder to get to the top pockets easily.
