(Understanding the the psyche of high earners)
『Secrets of Six-figure Women by Barbara Stanny was actually quite a good read. And not so much for the women interviewed and the amount of money they earned, but the fact that it gave little nuggets into the psyche of high earners.

I realize that if I am to be financially independant, than I will need to conquer some of my fears and assumptions about money. Reading this book brought to light some attitudes towards money that I hadn't thought of.

There are two great quotes about half-way through the book that summarize it well:

"How does one become a butterfly?" She asked pensively. "You must want to fly so much that are willing to give up being a caterpillar."

"Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible and suddenly you're doing the impossible."
~St. Francis of Assisi


It is these quotes, along with the examples of the ladies striking out on their own or forging their own paths that is the inspiration behind this book. I believe this is one I will read again in the future, not for a quick answer to making hundred's of thousands, but for the inspiration to take control over money, instead of it over me. And in the process, perhaps I can become a six-figure woman.

(Recommended Reading for All Women)
『As a success coach for women I'm always keeping my eyes open for resources. When I recommended this book to my clients and on my website I got emails thanking me of the recommendation.

The material in this book highlights how 'invisible rules' can hold us back while getting out of our comfort zones is a prerequisite for success. The secrets that Stanny shares have the ability to change your life if you take them to heart.

Every chapter has offers some Aha moments. There is also advice you've probably heard before but somehow Stanny makes that advice fresh. Perhaps it helps that it comes from women who've proven that the advice is sound and it works.

Written in a warm and honest style, it reads like a conversation with a good friend. A very knowledgeable friend.

Her closing chapter brings the definition of real success full circle. But I won't be a spoiler. You'll have to read it for yourself.

I recommend reading this book at least once a year!』

(Fabulously inspriational book...)
『I read this book previously and recently skimmed through it again. This is a ridiculously great book. The good news is that I already put a lot of these strategies into place in my business and personal life. The bad news is that it inspired to start yet another project *laugh* I think as we all become more successful in life and business we start to stagnate. I know I'm guilty of that, for sure. I found my comfort zone and stayed right there, so I decided to figure something else out to push myself and a new project was born.

Aside from that though... this is a fabulous book for a woman who wants to break-through the income and personal barriers they find themselves hitting against. It had some great insight into what I was doing right and what I might have been doing wrong. I highly recommend this to all women, no matter what they do, it has great strategies for business, yes, but I saw several things in there that also applied to my personal life.

It is wonderfully inspirational and made me look at the way I approach things and see how I could possibly do them differently. My husband and I actually had a nice discussion about this book. It says "Women" and while I agree that most of these strategies were geared towards women, most men could use them as well. He pointed out that there are so many books/resources for women business-owners, but you don't see many for men that are working a woman's world (virtual assisting for instance). He's right, but as I pointed out to him, while things rapidly are changing, for the most part, women do have a harder time being taken seriously in business. I see it myself, but I also see myself being much more assertive than I ever have in the past. I'm not sure if that is changes in the world around me or in myself. I still see times I think I'm not taken as seriously, but for the most part I consider myself very lucky to be surrounded by clients and colleagues that not only support me, but that I share a mutual level of respect with and for.

Fabulous. Read it.

Now, this part is a little spoiler and a big rant... towards the end of the book, the author makes reference that as women start making money they should start putting their money into separate accounts into their name only. While I completely understand the reasoning, I completely disagree with it. Why would you belittle your spouse, who stood behind you and helped you climb up to be the success that you are by taking all of "your money" for yourself. If you have separate accounts to start with, it's one thing, but to have this person who you've always shared funds with and eaten Ramen with and then turn around and say "Oh, I make a lot of money now, so it's all mine" -- How right is that? For the record, I'm against separate funds at all. I think this is one of the reasons the divorce rate is so high, people see things too much as "mine" and "just in case". I see too many people not thinking of "us". Okay, that's my rant and really the only part of the book I didn't agree with - and yes, it got me riled up. (ya think?) Okay, off my soapbox.』

『How is it that some women are such high earners? I've often reflected that I already work hard and I can't imagine working yet even harder in order to reach a six-figure income. However, high-earning women don't necessarily work harder (at some point you just get worn out), they work smarter. This book dispels that myth and a number of others surrounding high earning women. The author uses information she has gathered through interviews and research to unveil how some women are able to earn high salaries. I had several "ah-ha!" moments reading this book and learned some new strategies to do things differently in order to achieve a higher level of success. This was definitely a book I can use and was fun to read. (I had difficulty putting the book down!)

I would definitely recommend this book to any woman who wants to earn more money. However, I would also advise readers to read this in conjunction with a book on personal finance (perhaps one specifically for women, like Lois Frankels's Nice Girls Don't Get Rich: 75 Avoidable Mistakes Women Make with Money). One disappointing finding from this book is that many high-earning women are not good savers. Don't be one of them - learn to earn and learn to invest in your future as well!

(One of those good and rare books on contemporary painting)
『It is so weird how someone that probably has a truly limited knowledge on contemporary painting can review a book with such a pompous complacency. If you judge the book by its cover - I am not talking about whether it is a good thing or not- you'll find that Currin's painting is quite good at representing the rest of the works inside the book when they are considered thematically. If you pursue categorizing contemporary art by considering merely its formal qualities then you'll have a hard time understanding what it's all about (probably that's why people can't find any correspondence between Currin's work and the rest). Probably that's also why this book (also as almost every other book on contemporary art) is divided into chapters on the basis of works' thematic tones. Besides all of these, a book's cover is largely designed in regard to its commercial appeal; is Currin's work "figure painting today?" yes; "is it quite sensational for being a cover?"; yes, because it is Currin.

Also a book does not have to cover the entire range of artistic production taking place in any defined period (whether it is contemporary, classic or whatever it is). So judging a book that targets such an extensive subject with reference to the absence of Steven Assael, Jeremy Lipking, Robert Liberace (whom I personally think that quite are out of the league of the artists that are presented in this edition) or anyone of your liking seems a little bit erroneous.(For instance, if it was a book on Neo-Dada I might understand someone making such a fuss if there is no Rauschenberg in it, but in this case it seems to be plain nonsense.)

Anyway;
This book does not have comprehensive writings on the artists that are included but it is quite successful in assembling a wide array of contemporary painters that gets more recognition each day by juxtaposing them to already widely admired ones. There is not so many books on contemporary painting that serves as a collection of this sort which deals with artists that otherwise might be overlooked; furthermore there are not so many books that focuses on contemporary painting at all (except the ones that concentrates solely on one artist, such as Doig, Dumas, Saville.) So I dearly appreciate any initiative in publishing on this subject even if it truly (which in this case it is not as such) sucks. Strongly recommended.』

Much like the DVD's light jazz background music, Mr Buchman is a friendly, pleasant, encouraging teacher, rather gentle and affirming in his approach. He explains things clearly and thoroughly. As for qualifications, Mr Buchman has been an artist and teacher for many years, since he studied life drawing in the 1960s with impressive art mentors, including Victor D'Amico, education director of the Museum of Modern Art.

This DVD feels full: 90 minutes of one art technique and exercise after another, in the form of a private lesson in Mr Buchman's studio. You get to look over Mr Buchman's shoulder as he demonstrates twenty-five fundamental figure-art techniques -- including his own invention, the delightful continuous-contour drawing technique he calls "Loop De Loop" -- and simultaneously reveals his methods for developing proficiency with conte crayon, gel pen, ink wash, sumi brush, pastels, acrylic ink, watercolor crayons, and even a reed pen (as Van Gogh used). And you can use the DVD's menu to re-watch particular lessons as you like.

I personally love realistic, representational art more than any other, but Bill Buchman's abstract impressionist art -- especially when he uses color -- is lovely and full of life, in a way even the finest realistic art could never be. I 've collected a hundred books and videos that show me how to draw more realistically, and I treasure each one. But I was delighted to watch this DVD and feel an uplifting permission to be much more free in creating my art and still trust that it will be all right -- that what I create will truly be art, maybe even more so than what I've been creating for years, so carefully and so cautiously.

Mr Buchman's art is not based on realism. This DVD will not teach you to more realistically draw the human face, the hands and feet (in fact, Mr Buchman favors the torso and persuasively argues that trying to render too much detail in face, hands, and feet can ruin a work faster than anything.) 『This DVD is one of the best sports profiles I have ever seen. For one it details the life of arguably one of the greatest athletes in the history of professional sports. Even if you know the life of Messier and feel you don't the DVD, trust me you do. The DVD begins with a combination of short video clips of Messier with someone reading the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling. I use that part as a football coach to motivate my players in Mississippi. Even though none of them know anything about hockey, they could run through a brick wall. This Movie is must for any sports fan. If you are a Messier fan and don't have it get it today. Because if you watch it everyday until the day you die, it won't be enough!』

"Anyone notice how bad his teams got whenever Wayne Gretzky wasn't his teammate any longer? like me recognized how overrated he was even when he was with the Oilers. He thought he was old school, when he was just old."

1. He led the Oilers to a Cup, OVER Gretzky's Kings in the playoffs, and WITHOUT Gretzky in the Finals.
2. He led the Rangers to a Cup in 1994, WITHOUT Gretzky.
3. The guy scored nearly 20 goals and 50-60 points a season PAST the age of 40. You have to be a complete imbecile or complete hockey novice not to recognize how great that is.

Enough said. Must be another disgruntled Flyers fan. Time to go watch my Lightning Cup DVD while I anxiously await this release.』

『Regardless of what Laker haters may think, the LA Lakers totally deserved their NBA championship in 1999-00. I knew when Phil Jackson got named in as their coach, they would win a title the very same year. Have you noticed why Shaq&Kobe are called "the combo"? Together on the lakers they pulled a 1-2 punch that was unstoppable. I'll never forget that last play of the Western Conference Finals in 2000 against the Portland Trailblazers. Kobe moves with speed&grace of a running back. When he swerved and cut his way inside by the basket on a layup, I knew that Shaq would slam it in.

The DVD was great but save your money. There is a set out now that will let you relive all the memories (including complete games) of the title runs in 2002, 2001, 2000, 1988, 1987, the earlier 80's as well as a complete game from 1972. It is available on 5 discs for about $50. Why get championship highlights for one year when you get the complete history for the same price. It has this disc on it...』

(Got lucky)
『The only reason this video even exists is because LA got lucky. There was doubt that the Portland Trailblazers were the better team, and they had that Game 7 in the bag, until the officals decided to help the Lakers back into the game so they could have them in the finals to keep the ratings up. No one wanted to see the old Portland Trailblazers in the finals against the Pacers. You had to have the circus freak Lakers in there with Kobe and Shaq to keep the little kids happy. Remember, this was the first full NBA season following the embarressing lockout-shortening season where the ratings took a nosedive.

The Lakers are nothing more then a recycled Chicago Bulls team with Phil Jackson's ENTIRE coaching staff, and a few former Bulls with the likes of Ron harper, Horace Grant, among others. AS a Bulls fan, I was so upset about Phil going to LA, and even more upset about him winning it alongside those punks Shaq and Kobe. Luck ran out on the Lakers this past season when the Spurs waxed them, and I hope it happens again!』

『I was surprised that my boys wanted this toy, who afterall wants to play with the bad guy? But Gallaxhar is quite popular as the fall guy in the games my boys play. Poor Gallaxhar has one tragic accident after another, he literally has gone to pieces under the stress but none of the pieces has broken. But he just can't seem to get himself together any more, since he is all over the toy room. But even half of Gallaxhar is enough villian for my boys games.』

『My 5yr old son LOVED the movie, so this action figure is a lot of fun for him to play with. However, I wish that the manufacturer had made it easier for the character to stand/sit on the glider. We've already lost the little attachment piece that allows the character to stand on the glider and this character will not stand on his own. Otherwise he's a sturdy action figure, despite the tentacles are thin plastic. None of the tentacles have broke, yet. I wouldn't let a younger child play with it, cause you wouldn't want this stuff in the mouth.』

Ready, Set, Play!
The mission of Bakugan game play is to battle against other Bakugan to win the points awarded on the cards by getting your Bakugan to land on card. Players will love pretending to be one of the various characters in the show, such as the fiery 12-year-old leader "Dan" or the wise "Marucho," and they gain a deeper understanding of the cards and warriors as they play.

The Bakugan Deka doesn't come with instructions. The Starter Pack and Battle Pack both have instructions, however, so if your child is a newbie, it might make sense to get one of these first. You can also consult the Bakugan Web site, which does a good job of explaining the different types of cards and warriors. The game itself is fairly straightforward but if your child has never played before, you might have to help him or her to understand the rules -- after reading and understanding them yourself.

The bad boys of the Bakugan world, the Dekas are bigger and even more fun to play with than the standard Bakugan. Almost as large as a softball, but much lighter, the bigger, beefier Dekas add a new dimension to Bakugan play. Though not pocket-sized like the other Bakugan, your child will still love battling with the Dekas and collecting the different warriors.

Exciting Magnetic Action
The Bakugan come in lots of colors and varieties that make them fun to collect and trade. Most of them are pocket-sized and easy for your child to carry around and bring over to their friend's houses. The Dekas are are much bigger than the standard Bakugan, but still lightweight. Having a magnet that activates the warriors is a clever idea that adds excitement to the game. The optional Bakugan Launcher (sold separately) is a great accessory, with three shooting modes ("curve," "angle, and "distance"), but it doesn't come with any instructions.

Room for the Imagination
We like that this that this game combines skill (aiming your Bakugan) with strategy (placement of the cards). We also enjoyed the way the warriors pop open on the magnetic cards -- although sometimes they do it even when they don't land on the cards. Being unfamiliar with the TV show, we felt a little lost at first in the world of Bakugan. But with the help of the colorful, animated Bakugan Web site, we got the gist of what the game is about and how to play. Our attempts to fire the launcher proved somewhat difficult and instructions would have helped. But the launcher isn't necessary. Kids can simply roll the Bakugan like marbles for a fun and action-packed game with their friends.
