(video for older kids) 『I bought this video to use in a third grade CCD class that I teach. When I previewed it, I was impressed with the effort that was put into the production of the film. But I did not show it to my class because some of the movie was too graphic for their age group. Also, some of the language would've been difficult for them to understand. I would recommend this video for the upper grades 5-6. The children narrating the movie are about that age. I wouldn't recommend it to use with younger children.』
(Disappointed in this purchase) 『This DVD was very disappointing for several reasons. The main character (a boy) was contentious toward his father on several occasions, yet received no real correction for it and showed no sign of repentance. Several children meet up at night without any parental supervision on different occasions, and at one point two of the boys get into a brawl. I honestly could only handle watching about 30 minutes of this and had to turn it off. I would not show this DVD to my children because of the ill fruit it might produce in their character. The portrayal of Jesus and his disciples seemed much more on track with what I was looking for. Again, I did not watch the entire DVD, so it's possible that things improve with the children, but I wouldn't waste my time waiting to see.』
(Each child is different) 『I would like to have seen a greater focus on Jesus, not the children. It was a little fragmenting in the opening scenes having the children each recall bits and pieces about Jesus .... you didn't know who the main character was! There were angels speaking to Mary, a baby, a temple scene, a Baptism, etc. all within a couple of minutes....
I guess that is the problem of narrating a story through the eyes of someone else, and not letting the Scriptures speak straight to you. You have to go through the 'filter' of that character; and are forever limited to seeing things from their point of view (or how the narrator portrays them). But that is a more general point about the 'narrative'.
I think movies etc. are good but especially for the younger child, who can't read; but the younger they are the more they need a movie that simply tells the story of Jesus; and does so slowly and simply, focusing upon Jesus from start to finish...For that reason the movie that just puts the Bible into pictures (as far as possible) is to be preferred- especially for the very little ones... but I recognise each child is different
I think they will get bored if the scenes change so quickly they loose the thread, not because it takes two minutes to show the wonder of say the birth; a flash back taking 10 seconds or whatever is rushing the story. i.e. I don't think much is gained by making a short version. Children love to stop and wonder where adults pass over in familarity. It is all new to them... enjoy it, dramatise the wonder... don't rush it!
I'll be going back to the original 'Jesus' movie first!... and seeing if that better meets my expectations of a film that conveys the story of Jesus in a memorable visual way to in my case young children. The ficticious characters seemed to get in the way. 』

I have it in the black and in the toffee and they're almost completely invisible under clothes- I had a semi-sheer white tee shirt on last night, and the toffee was totally undetectable. The bra is super smooth and really does the job, and even makes me look a bit slimmer, since the shape is less round than some other bras,and doesn't push my breasts into my armpits.
I wear a 34F, so the straps are significantly wider than those pictured, and the bra has a bit less of a demi-look in the larger cup sizes. The straps are still attractively wide-set, however. The larger cup sizes also have a 2-row closure in the back, rather than the 1 row pictured.

Each ship, when finished, is durable enough to play with. By that, I mean that each one is strong enough to grab and chase someone else around the house with.

The worst part however is that the figure breaks in half extremely easily due to the way its made. (Caleb's the man!) 『Before reading this story I had never paid much attention to Caleb. Now I don't know how I ever overlooked him. His faithfulness to God truly is encouraging to the reader. I wish the book had been longer, I didn't want to stop reading about him!』
(Caleb, the greatest of the Jews.) 『THE WARRIOR by Francine Rivers is the second of a five part series. I was a little disappointed with the first book in the series, The Priest, but volumes 2 and 3 (yes, I read them out of order) have been extraordinary and a welcome return to what I've come to expect from this very gifted writer. This one follows the story of Caleb, the half-breed from the tribe of Judah who, after the death of Moses, would become not only the greatest warrior of the twelve tribes of Israel, but I believe also God's most dedicated servant of a generation.
Caleb undoubtedly possessed the most unwavering faith among the Jews and this book closely chronicles his struggle, not just with his own sin, but with his inability to sway the people who, over and over, so quickly turned away from their Almighty deliverer. Caleb spent his life, when not destroying the idol-worshippers which infested the promised land, desperately reminding the people of God's grace upon them. Caleb's was a life surely mired in frustration as he watched not one, not even two, but three generations turn away from the Lord God.
Though Joshua is so often the one remembered of the generation of Jews delivered into the land, it was Caleb who was the strength of the people, often standing alone on the side of God. And though even his twelve sons would disappoint Caleb, near the end of his life it would be his one daughter who would give him hope for the future of the Jews.
Once again, Francine Rivers takes the reader through the stories of the Bible in intricate detail, adding narrative, but never venturing from the details.

(Spectacular Storytelling) 『The Warrior by Francine Rivers continues her biblical men of faith series--Sons of Encouragement. I have read all Francine Rivers' books and have never been disappointed. I was delighted to learn "The Last Sin Eater" is in feature-length film production.
The hero of our current story is Caleb, warrior of God. The first paragraph--"Run!"--hooked me and I reluctantly inserted my bookmark when other duties called. Kelubai's--Caleb's given name--belief in God begins when in the throes of one of the disasters rained down on Egypt because Pharaoh wouldn't let God's people go. "The God of the Hebrews could turn water to blood and call forth frogs... Here was a God he could worship." He runs to the Hebrews, led by Moses, and asks for acceptance for him and his family to exit Egypt with them. But the Hebrews, just beginning on their journey into the desert, look down their nose at him and tell him no, since he is but a half-breed and descended from the lineage of Esau. When asked his name and he replies, "Kelubai," they jeer and call him Caleb -- dog. Not taking "no" for an answer, he and his family tag along on the fringe of the huge exodus. Finally accepting the name Caleb, his love for God and following His commandments eventually earn him a standing in the community.
When the Jews reach the Jordan River, Caleb is chosen to represent the tribe of Judah to spy out the land with a member of each of the other eleven tribes. Also among the twelve is his young friend, Joshua. For forty days the spies surreptitously inspect the land of Canaan and its people. When returning, they all say how wonderful and fertile the land is; the magnificent crops--some of which they've carried back as witness to the rich fertileness of the land. But ten say the people are too big, too well defended and there is no way they can take the land from them. Caleb and Joshua, however, say God has given them this land; they must fight for it and drive out the Canaanites. They must obey God. But the people don't listen and God returns them to the desert to wander for almost forty years because of their unbelief, disobedience, and complaining. The only two of the current adult generation who will be allowed into Canaan are Caleb and Joshua--the entire adult population dies during the forty years of wandering in the desert.
Francine Rivers has penned a marvelous and poignant story of one man's desire to be all that he can be for God. She's taken the scriptures and brought them alive. And she's done it beautifully. One can't miss the parallels of our own lives and Caleb's, nor God's call to respond to Him as Caleb did. I needed to learn a lot about anatomy and don't exactly have the space or means to hire models for my own reference photos, so I figured something like this would be perfect. However, after owning it for a while and attempting to draw from it, I realized this book is not good for beginners. If you're just starting out and are not adept with anatomy yet, you'll probably find many of the poses useless. Many shots are, as one reviewer said, at extreme or odd angles instead of more natural ones. You can't learn much about basic anatomy when your references are all squished up so that the shoulders look giant and the legs are half an inch long. Plus, the models are pretty short, considering the references are intended for a comic artist. If you already have a very good understanding of the human body, you may find this useful for very specific poses. The most positive thing about this book is probably the lighting, which was done very well.』
(Great Idea, Poor Execution) 『This book is truly a good idea but between the selection of models and less-than-good photography it falls short.
The female models in this book are beautiful, but unless you are looking for short and slightly thick this is not the book for you. Comic artists rarely draw women of this body type.
The one positive thing I can say is that for the money you are getting quite a bit of content.』
(Ho-Hum) 『I'll list the GOOD, then I'll list the Not-So-Good (aka. BAD).
The best two things about this book are:
1) A decent amount of images therein show the models in clothing (cloaks, some street clothing). 2) There's some decent reference of models holding weapons in "battle" poses.
That's it, really...
The *not* good (ie. BAD) things about the photograph are as follows:
1) The images are SMALL. Even the ones on the enclosed CD-ROM. Seems like the largest they get is around 700-800px on the longest side.
2) The camera's focal length causes the subjects to look distorted (ie. Huge hands close to the lens, tiny feet far away). For example: http://is.gd/21M0
3) Only 4 models total. And two of them don't take their socks off. It may seem like a small thing, but not showing the feet is kind of huge. There's a lot of important detail in the tendons/bones/toes that is completely missing from half the images in this book.
4) The lighting creates strong shadows. This could be good or bad. Good because you get some nice play of light across muscles/tendons. Bad because sometimes parts of the model cast shadows on their face/etc, and obscures expressions and such.
All in all, it's OKAY. Frankly, I wouldn't buy it again. I'll keep it now that I have it, but my recommendation is to look elsewhere for a good reference book.』
(Inconveniently Helpful) 『The book would be ideal if it was wire-bound, and you could flip to a certain photo, then lay the book flat to draw from it. Otherwise, it's hard to keep it open to one page without clips, clamps or otherwise incovenient tools. While the CD is helpful, leaving the computer on the whole time to draw from it wears your eyes out quickly.』
(Very Average Reference - Google Images is Better and FREE) 『I was very disappointed after purchasing this book. The content is average at best and the CD doesn't even contain ALL of the images found in the book which I thought was very misleading to the customer - you have to scan the images not on CD that you want - what a waste. You can do better by finding image references through Google Images and those are free. This book has some value, perhaps if one is just starting out, but hardly a top resource for anyone else. The "extremely positive" reviews here are no doubt either people who fall into this newbie category or friends of the author looking to help him out by placing positive reviews. Pass on this one or get it used / discounted somewhere. Not worth the full price that's printed on it.
