『It is just too much reflection. I can't see who is calling or what is going on the phone unless I am in a darker place. Forget about texting under the sun when you have this thing on the phone. You will be looking at your reflection.

It does what it says, it is a mirror.. and at reflects A LOT. so if you want to look at your self, or who is behind you, this is GREAT!.. if you want to know what is going on your phone when you are out in the sun, then this is not a good product.』

『At first I was very excited about the Duracel myGrid starter kit. My wife is impatient with tangled cables running everywhere, so I thought it would be great to set up a charging station on our counter with only one cable. But once I opened the package and set it up, I realized that this isn't a workable solution for my family.

* A good sized platform to set up to four devices for charging.
* A charger cable.
* Three types of charger tips.
* One adhesive clip (Yes, just one)

The Problems:

Starting with the obvious: This kit only comes with one of the adhesive clips that is required to charge your device. So this whole kit only gets you ONE charged phone. That's a shame, since there are two other charging tips included in the package.

Speaking of the package, the packaging was worse than most. The charging tips were nearly impossible to get out of the package without damaging them. I wouldn't have tried so hard if I'd know I could only use one of them.

Most importantly, this charging solution is designed so that you will leave the tip and the fairly bulky adhesive clip attached to your phone at all times. That means you'll have a much bulkier phone IN YOUR POCKET, because it probably won't fit in any holster or case anymore. The tip and clip also interfere with any buttons that are near the charging port on your phone.

You will also have trouble if you access the charging port on your phone for data transfer, which is likely, since two of the three included tips are mini-USB. That means you'll have to remove the tip from beneath the clip before you can connect your data cable (and then hope that you don't lose the tip).

I found this setup to be very impractical and to create more of a nuisance than the charging cables. If the entire purpose of the product is to reduce the number of cables, then the solution is worse than the problem. My wife is the one who hates the charger cables, but she told me to get rid of this charging station ASAP.

Even if I could get over the nuisance of the bulk added to the phone, the price seems way too high to me just to get rid of a couple of cables. Remember that you'll need to purchase additional tips&clips before you can charge more than just one phone.』

『I was given the opportunity to review this item and I looked forward to it.

I thought that anything that reduces the clutter of a million power cords can't be bad. nd certainly this is not a bad product at all.

Pros:

1. Design: nice looking design to be sure. Fairly compact (about 7 inches across by 4 5 inches wide), plus a power cord and a small blue power light. This item turns off the power when you place your hand on it, so no worries bout getting a zap of juice at all.
2. Size: You can place four items on the grid, which makes it ideal for a family to power their devices if you have the right tips (more on that under cons), so it is a space saver.
3. Coolness: this item ranks pretty high on the coolness factor. It is a great idea always to get rid of a million different cords, but....

Neutral:
1. Cost: this item costs a significant amount of money. I guess my question is why I would fork over a chunk of money to reduce clutter... money versus clutter... I think money may win out for me on this one. Plus, if I upgrade my phone, I have to go and buy another tip.

2. Travel: this item is large enough the travel is not necessarily made convenient by having this item. This is one downside of this item.

Cons:
1. Tips: You have to have the right tip to insert into your phone, headset, etc. to attach it to the magnet provided so you can get juice to your device from the grid. On the model I was provided, I was given tips for Blackberry devices and Nokia, but not the Blackberry mini USB. Thus, I couldn't really use the item without purchasing the correct tips for each device including one for the Blackberry Curve and and IPhone. This is another significant cost, and again the question is whether I want to spend money to save some clutter. I am not really sure many people will want to incur a significant cost to save some clutter for different cords when this is intended for home and you will be provided with the cords for home use already when you purchase the product.

Overall this is a GREAT idea. it is just that asking someone to spend a good deal of money (it is more expensive than some of the phones your powering) is not a goo design strategy. Great idea, poor execution. It is just okay.

(A GOOD CHOICE FOR CHARGING MATS)
『Let me start by noting that I first tried a Powermat PMM-HO100 Home&Office Mat (Black) and ended up returning it. I really liked the idea of this new technology (using less energy to charge several items at once) and myGrid was recommended by a friend. After trying it out, I ordered one. I rate it four stars when compared to others in the market but three overall. I am still keeping my old charging cords since it does not address charging outside of home.

It is easy to set up: plug the myGrid into an outlet, place your items into the required holders, place them face up onto the mat, watch for the light which ensures it is working properly and wait the usual time for your item to be charged.

All of the charging mats use these simple steps but myGrid has some added benefits. I love that the myGrid can charge up to four electronic devices (this is the highest I've run across in charging mats). You still need to place your electronic device into a holder (a basic one is provided for you and additional ones cost around $34) before placing it onto the charging mat but the cost is the same no matter the device - others charge more for premium electronics (such as Blackberrys or iPhones). The holders or "power sleeves" are much easier to connect then others which is a HUGE plus when you are talking about expensive devices. This charging mat is convenient if I leave it out with the required holders on it.

Like all others in this category, it works for certain cell phones and not across the board. I am hoping that myGrid will branch out to include more brands to make this an even better option. You will need to invest in additional power sleeves so note that the end cost is higher (I would estimate at least $120).

To my thinking, myGrid takes less energy by using magnetic connections to one AC outlet over separate power cords to an AC outlet for each device. Does anyone know?

If you want the latest in technology, this is your best bet.』

(Convenient tool...with an ugly design)
『Let me begin by saying who I believe should buy a charging pad such as this one: if you have multiple cell phones that you would like to charge, or if you are very tired of having to go search for your ordinary plug-in charger and then fiddling to plug that into your phone. Also, this particular kit only works for owners of Motorola, Nokia and Blackberry phones. Users of any other brands can forget about this as chances are high that the right charging plug is not included. iPhone users, do know that according to Duracell's website an iPhone version of this pad is supposed to be out in Spring 2010.

So what is this product? The Duracell myGrid charging system basically allows you to place your cell phone on a mat to charge instantly, without having to fiddle around for a charging cord. Many similar charging systems that are now out use a physics concept called induction to charge the phone, where there are no exposed metal contacts on either the charging pad or the phone. The Duracell myGrid is NOT one of these chargers, however. Probably in the interest of cheaper costs, Duracell chose to use the older, very common concept of conduction where metal contacts on the phone and charger conduct charges.

So what does that mean? It means that the myGrid charging pad is actually one large pad with a large metal surface area. When turned on, this large metal area IS energized with electric charges. At first glance, you might think that you can shock yourself by touching the pad. Nothing to fear folks, as the electricity flowing through the pad is too weak to create any noticeable shocks. And to add peace of mind, if the pad detects your finger or anything else that conducts electricity (like keys, jewelry, etc.) to be touching the pad, then it shuts off the current.

How do you use it? To get the juices flowing into your phone, Duracell includes a special "clip" that has three tiny metal contacts on the bottom. You are supposed to stick on the "clip" with the included adhesive to your phone. The clip then connects to a charging plug which is inserted into your phone's charging port. That completes the setup. To actually charge, just place the phone on the pad with the clip in contact.

What are the flaws? Well, the charger still works if you don't 'stick' the clip to your phone. Instead, the catch is that you'll have to be careful when taking your phone off the pad. The clip is literally a magnet that sticks on to the pad, so you'll then have to exert careful pressure to remove the phone+clip from the pad. I think that's a bad design aspect in that if you were ever to switch phones, you would have to attempt to peel off the clip from your old phone and stick it on to your new one. Also, if you did stick on the clip, then you have an ugly and oddly-shaped piece of plastic stuck on to your phone for most of the day. It can get in the way of your hand gripping the phone, you can't exactly use many cases with the phone, and it just looks odd. Oh, and personally I think the pad just looks plain ugly. The whole metal pad with its black and chrome trim seems like something Doc Brown would've had in his DeLorean back in the 80s.

What could be improved? I think Duracell should do what other manufacturers of similar charging pads are doing and creating sleeves where the phone can be kept in a sleek-looking sleeve all-day that can do double-duty as a nice case. In fact, they seem to be doing this. The iPhone charging system that I mentioned earlier is on their website seems to have this very sleeve. Now if they were smart and brought it to the other brands as well.

Also, this product is being marketed and designed for cell phones only. If Duracell could find a way, I would like be able to charge my other devices on the pad, like my bluetooth headset, PS3 controller, iPod, etc. If a wide-variety of devices could be charged all using this one pad, then I would say the myGrid is guaranteed to be a hit! At the moment though, for just a few cell phone models I am not surprised to see the naysayers here on Amazon shooting down this gadget.

Overall, it's a gadget that is meant purely for convenience sake. If the clip design were improved (and maybe the overall pad design was more sleeker), then this pad can be a big seller.』

『The case is great for the price. It's real leather with a soft liner, and fits both the first-gen and second-gen iPod Touch. The clip, on the other hand, is insanely huge. The clip can be removed, and with a little carving with a utility knife, the attachment point for the clip can be cut down level with the rest of the case. After that, the case is very useful. My only issue is that the "window" on the front is slightly smaller than it should be--it is hard to press icons in the very corners of the screen, but is doable.

One very handy thing I've discovered is that the wrap-around flap is exactly the right length to hold the Touch snugly against the TEN Technology naviPlay Bluetooth Stereo Adapter for iPod, which works great with the Touch but doesn't come with a clip that fits it.』

Reality check: If the screen drops on its face- even with those plastic stick covers- it will break EVEN if it has a cover on it. I learned this by breaking my second phone. 『This is really an impressive little gadget. Quite easy to use, just plug it in to charge, turn it on and attach a device. I attached my iPhone and watched videos through iTunes and YouTube quite easily. On a wall, on a ceiling. There really needs to be very little ambient lighting though. But when it's dark, really a pretty sharp picture for the size of the thing and its resolution. And I was especially impressed by the sound given the tiny size of the speaker.

My only complaint is a lack of documentation. The box came with a "quick start guide" which told you very little beyond how to charge it and a couple of other notes and one "sample" configuration. That's it, and there doesn't seem to be any more documentation online. But given how relatively easy to use it is, this is a minor quibble.』

It's like a mini home theatre projector that I can put in my pocket. I travel a lot so now when I want to wind down in my hotel room, I no longer have to surf bad tv. I plug in my Ipod to my Swivel and watch movies projected on the ceiling. Very Cool. I also have been able to show friends some of my fave music videos while we are out in a bar or restaurant. People always ask me what's in my hand. The Swivel is my new favorite gadget to take everywhere.』

『I've dreamed of having a projector in my living room for a long time now - problem is, it continued to be a dream because I already have WAY too much stuff in my small, city apartment. I couldn't justify getting more bulky electronics to fill the little free space I have left.

I saw the Cinemin in Oprah Magazine earlier this month and I was immediately sold. It's like a DVD player you can carry around...in your pocket! I was stoked. For the last week or so, I have been enamored with this gadget's ability to make me more comfortable than I've ever been while watching anything on a screen. My boyfriend and I are adamant about our Dexter and Californication dates each week, but by the time we have come home from work, gone to the gym, eaten dinner, and showered, it's pretty late. These days, we actually get in bed, ready to sleep, and watch Dexter's evil schemes or Hank Moody's outlandish escapades play out on the ceiling above the bed as we fall asleep.

I don't think I've ever considered myself an early adopter, but this device is one that I had to snatch up the minute it was released. I'm an avid traveler, so the in-between times on a trip, on-board a train from city to city or mid-air crossing the Atlantic (and stuck with the latest horrendous Jennifer Aniston flick as our in-flight movie) are going to be wonderful times to use the Cinemin. I'm looking forward to it. :-)

『I'm rarely the first to get anything but this thing is COOL. I'm a sucker for tiny form factors. Priced right for a new gadget (thought I could see it going lower in time--under $200 would be nice). We had been looking at buying a used LCD/DLP projector but with this, we got what we needed and more. We just got it yesterday and found it easy to use, reasonably easy to set up with the exception of hooking it up to our portable dvd player. We needed to jerry rig it into a M2M AV connection--the quick start guide doesn't cover this at all and we stole the cable from our tv to make it work. Haven't checked battery life but it's easily run off the ac adapter

That said, my 6 year old LOVED hanging out in our living room watching a movie both off my iphone and the portable dvd. She's already plotting her next sleep over. The picture quality is amazing--our display on the living room wall was probably about 4' x 7-8 feet and very clear given that the room was not completely dark. For a group, you might want to hook it up to external speakers (we hooked it up to our Bose SoundDock and it worked great) but when traveling or for a small group, the sound on the little device is fine. Great when you don't have to force 4 kids to crowd around a little dvd player.

For work, I can definitely see taking this to client sites when I need to do presentations. It's about the size of a digital camera even with the case and cables. Very light, compact. Comes with all the connectors you need for the most part including power adapters for int'l travel.

A clever gadget, especially for the $$. Would be fun if they produce them in different colors like the apple products.』

(Great idea, great sound, poor product quality)
『We have purchased two of these radios, although we have already exchanged one defective unit, for a total of three. All three have had problems. Two began displaying the wrong time, and on one the display information occasionally disappears -- the backlight is still on, but the display is blank. If we unplug the radio it resets and the display is fine.

On the plus side, the sound quality is great, and the radio controls are generally easy to operate. I do agree with other reviews that the back light is very bright - too bright sometimes.

Because of the defects, we will be returning both units. We'll be looking for another iPod capable HD clock radio...a little hard to find.』

(Fair Radio - Poor Clock Radio)
『I am returning my unit. I bought it to use as a bedside clock radio. It really didn't work well for that purpose. It does do everything that it says it will do, but it has some issues that render it useless as a bedside clock radio.

- With the radio on, it does not display the time. So if you are going to sleep with the radio on, you canot see the time.

- The iPod/iPhone does not charge while the radio is on. So you cannot charge while listening to the radio.

- The display is either way to bright or off, no in between.

- The unit is really large for a bedside radio.

All in al, I wanted to like this. There aren't many clock radios on the market right now that both have a headphone jack (for a pillow spwaker) and also charges an iPhone. This one however, just didn't meet my needs.』

Radio reception was good and all the extra HD stations are a treat but you get that from any HD radio.
Sound quality is good for the price.
LCD is dimmable, large, and bright but has to be turned off before bed unless you sleep with the lights on. Also the screen looks dated and doesn't display the current time while the radio is playing.
Setting the alarm and radio presets is cumbersome and takes several steps
Large form factor takes up a lot of space on your nightstand.

Why I would return this device if I could find the receipt:
I expected to be able to dock my iPhone every night to charge it up. The problem is that the HD-1 starts the iPod application and plays a song at full volume as soon as your iPhone is docked. Unless you live alone, you need to plan on waking up everyone in the house every night as you fumble with the remote to turn the music off. Plus anytime you decide to listen to the radio the HD-1 stops charging altogether.

Another problem is that you can not use the remote to skip songs in radio streaming software like Pandora, Slackware, etc. If Pandora is streaming, the fast forward button will start the iPod application and play an iPod song instead of skipping to the next Pandora song.

Overall it feels like this was rushed to market with very little user testing. I hope the firmware can be updated to fix some of the issues but I doubt it.』

(Alarm Clock? - Fail)
『Although the overall build and construction of Teac HD-1 is solid it is lacking in a couple key areas.

1. iPod does not charge unless the radio is set to the iPod function
2. Very difficult to set the alarm time.
3. This is an alarm clock. You should always see the time! The HD-2 should separate out the clock display from the radio display and use LED. Turn off the back light with the radio is off.
4. Why no annoying alarm sound? If there is one, why is it buried?

I'm glad I got it on sale at [...].』

Remember, this is really a computer that is masquerading as a cell phone. There are many hidden controls and tips for use that will make your iPhone even more incredible than you think it is. The book is easy to read and allows you to jump around to subjects that are most important for you. I could go on, but enough...I am glad I bought the book and suggest you strongly consider doing the same.』

(You Can Teach an "Old" Dog New Tricks...)
『When I retired five years ago, I was officially --and literally -- left to my own devices -- no more in-house tech support or paid consultants to keep my gadgets working. Between David Pogue's column and the kindness of friends and strangers, I was keeping my computer and other electronics working most of the time.

Until I got an iPhone, and in particular the 3GS, which had these apparently great new apps for people with low vision (a state I am slowly inching toward). I knew I would love it if only I could figure out how to use it. Unfortunately, staff at two different Apple stores weren't much help - those nifty new features were too new, and none of the staff I talked with even knew about them, much less know how to use them. I thought my iPhone days were numbered. Then I went to the library and discovered Pogue's book on the iPhone in the New Books section. After reading the first couple of chapters, I had to buy it.

Next to my dictionary and thesaurus, it has become the most useful reference book I own. It is highly readable, and the information is organized and indexed logically and intuitively, especially for a post-war baby like me. I agree wholeheartedly with the reviewers who praised this book. It was one of the best investments I ever made. The author truly has a gift - and a calling in helping laypeople like me become more tech savvy.

(Pretty Great Phone)
『Well, I lost my Motorola Razr phone which had served me well for two years. It's in the house somewhere, but I never did find it. All my friends had been telling me I needed a smart phone, so when this happened I went to the AT&T store and bought an iPhone 3GS (16 gig).

The girl I spoke with said that "everything's pretty intuitive" so that was why it didn't come with an instruction booklet. Wrong!!! There are things this phone can do that are not intuitive, but still simply amazing.

I'd bought David Pogue's missing manual for my Mac laptop, and I knew he was a really good writer, so I bought this book about my iPhone by him, too. It has been well worth the money. The book is bigger than the phone itself, and there is information in this book that I never would have been able to guess on my own.

I have some quibbles about the phone, especially that I can't forward voicemails from it, but that's not the phone's fault . . . it's AT&T's. The book, on its own, ... Fabulous!

『If you have a new iPhone 3g/3Gs, and are looking for a great guide, and a great read, this is the book for you! I have another book by David Pogue, "Windows Vista, The Missing Manual", so I expected this to be good....and it is.

Many great tips, that I would have never figured out on my own, are in this book, and are highlighted in a light colored yellow box...so you'll pay attention to them. Everything that I needed and wanted to know I found in this book and then some. Pogue even adds some humor here and there, which keeps it from being boring. He has a way of explaining things so they make sense, and is easy to follow.

A great read, whether you just got your new phone, or are thinking about one...lots to learn on this tiny pocket computer that happens to be a phone! Very up to date, covering firmware version 3.0 and the 3Gs model, including the video camera, copy and paste, voice recording, compass, etc.

Highly recommended!』

If you have an iPhone 3GS, then you’re in for some extra camera goodness. See the white box in the center of the screen? That’s telling you where the iPhone thinks the most important part of the photo is. That’s where it will focus; that’s what it examines to calculate the overall brightness of the photo (exposure); and that’s the portion that will determine the overallwhite balanceof the scene (that is, the color cast).
But often, dead-center is not the most important part of the photo. The cool thing is that you cantapsomewhere else in the scene to move that white square—to make the camera recalculate the focus, exposure, and white balance.
Here’s when you might want to do this tapping:
1) When the whole image looks too dark or too bright.If you tap adarkpart of the scene, you’ll see the whole photo brighten up; if you tap abrightpart, the whole photo will darken a bit. You’re telling the camera, “Redo your calculations sothispart has the best exposure; I don’t really care if the rest of the picture gets brighter or darker.”
2) When the scene has a color cast.If the photo looks, for example, a little bluish or yellowish, tap a different spot in the scene—the one you care most about. The iPhone recomputes its assessment of the white balance.
3) When you’re in macro mode.If the foreground object is very close to the lens—4 to 8 inches away—the iPhone automatically goes intomacro(super closeup) mode. In this mode, you can do something really cool: You candefocus the background. The background goes soft, slightly blurry, just like the professional photos you see in magazines. Just make sure you tap the foreground object.

『I have lots of photography books, written by a whole lot of different people. This one deserves a place on the shelf with those others for two main reasons:

(1) The images here are really good. Sure, there's nothing that'd do a killer job of selling Sandisk equipment, but they're honest (as is Mr. Jarvis, when he describes them as "a chunk" of who he is) and clear, and tell parts of stories that are compelling.
(2) This book is one of the best how-tos I've seen, but not because it diagrams how images are made or because of equipment or access to celebrities. No, this book is comprised of images that Jarvis made with his iPhone. Certainly all of us don't have iPhones, but in today's cellular world, it's hard to find a mobile phone that doesn't also take pictures. The lesson here is simple: You don't need fancy equipment to make photographs. Start small.

I think that people who open this hoping to find a technical manual are gonna be disappointed, but people who are interested in finding inspiration to make images will find a wellspring.

(If you're a total newbie....)
『If you're a total iPhone development newbie like I am, you might get lost with the "instructions" in this book. I've worked up to page 67 and now I'm pretty much lost. The authors explain how the code works, but you don't always know exactly where to type in the code using the instructions. On page 68, for example, the code that you need to add to the project is not shown in context with existing code. I guess the developers reasoned that if you can't figure it out, then then this book is probably not for you.

I'm sure that those with the some prior experience with Objective-C or those who are taking a class in this subject will probably be able to tackle this book.

I've successfully used a couple of Head First books in the past, but the instructions in this one are not always clear. I've downloaded the book's code from the publisher's website, so I'll use that some to maybe fill in the gaps.

If you're new to iPhone development and programming in general, then first search for and work through some free online video tutorials on beginning iPhone development before spending your money on this book. If don't do that, you'll be frustrated.

Too bad there's no discussion/tech support group for this book. It would be helpful for newbies.

Finally, a suggestion to editors of the Head First books (if they're reading this), please use some type of icon in your books to indicate specific instructions in the text of the book. It's great that the authors explain the why and purpose of doing certain things, but there should be an indication on the page for specific instructions that readers are to carry out. In this book, for example, you know some instructions are coming up when the authors write: "Let's focus on the database protocol methods first.".. But it would be great if there were an icon that indicated that a particular page(s) has specific instructions.

Oh well, back to the book. I'll see if I can figure it out.』

(Great Book, fun read!)
『I bought this book with Beginning Iphone 3 Development. I have yet to touch the Iphone 3 book, I have tried but the Head First book keeps me coming back. The Head First books are so much more fun than most books. I love the hand written notes all over the pages. These notes have arrows pointing right to the IDE or source code they are talking about. This book moves very fast, I was half way through it in a few days, doing all labs as well.

Make sure you read the notes and pay close attention to the Q&A sections. I would even go to the end of the chapter and read those first. There were a few times I added interfaces on my own or did something I thought the example may be missing, only to read later in the Q&A why I didn't need to do it.

Good emphasis on getting the app to the store, covers debugging using Xcode early on.

I don't know Objective-C, I come from a Java background but that hasn't held me back at all using this book. If your goal was to learn Objective C I would use a reference book in conjunction with this book.

I did get stuck a couple of times on one of the examples, I used their source code from their website and compared it to mine and found my issues.

I wanted a book that would get me from point 0 to up and running fast and I think I chose the right book for that!

『This is the book you want if you want to build applications for the iPhone, you are an experienced programmer, and if you do not already know Objective C. The only book as good as or better than this one is Beginning iPhone 3 Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK. The first two-thirds of that book guides you through iPhone OS programming in general, concentrating on the display. Later chapters cover more advanced topics. What that book has in detail though, it somewhat lacks in perspective. In other words - it fails to step back and give you the big picture. This head first book excels in the big picture as well as the details.

This head first book covers everything you need to know just as long as programming is not something that is new to you. In particular, object-oriented concepts should be familiar to you as well as programming in a procedural language such as C. The book takes it from there. If you have used the head-first series of books before then you know what you are in for. The book uses cartoons, crossword puzzles, Q&A sessions, fake interviews with devices and programs, and strange looking photographs to make your brain remember what it sees. The book is not a reference book on Objective C, and honestly, if you are going to go far with iPhone application development, then you probably should have a conventional book on that very topic after you finish this book and all of its exercises.

This book also gets you going by building an iPhone app in the first chapter. It will also do odd things that make you think about a design, such as leading you down the wrong path in the design cycle so that you remember the right path. For that very reason it is important to go through this book from beginning to end and do all of the exercises. You won't get the most out of it if you do not. Highly recommended if you are teaching yourself this subject.

『I lost my iPhone 3gs when the phone made bad contact with the case and slipped out. I recommend the seidio case and clip. It holds the phone much more secure with its manual release spring clip. Otterbox really screwed up when they gave up the "slip in" type case for this friction lock type. If your in public safety, the case is second to none, but the belt clip is terrible. Hope it helps.』

『I recently bought the charger for my car and it works well. My iPod (30GB Video 5G) charges very fast with this charger and does not 'short', like some have been reported to do. The specific charger that I received is slightly different from the stock picture, with the handle at the cigarette lighter end a bit rounder. The blue indicator light is also much bigger, about the size of a US quarter, but glows only a faint blue which makes it not as distracting. The plastic feels pretty cheap, but for only $0.60 and shipping, it's worth it to get it since it DOES work.』

『I bought this on Amazon earlier this year. I use it to hold my 3GS on my road bike. It's worked great for 500+ miles over roads with the occasional major bump. I've had no problems at all - not with the iPhone detaching, not with mounting it to the bike - it's working perfectly. A few seconds ago I ordered a second one of these for my other bike.

A few notes, to put this into context for others:

There is a little clip on the top that is the mechanism that fully secures your iPhone into the holster. If you don't push your iPhone firmly when you insert it in the holster, it's sometimes possible for that clip to catch partially on the SIM card slot on the top of the iPhone. If you're not paying attention, you may think it's clipped in correctly, but it's not. This happened to me once... once I realized this, I just give the phone an extra press when I clip it in, and it's fine. This isn't a serious issue, just something to be aware of.

I've had no problems at all with the iPhone coming unclipped. I've ridden through nasty potholes, over tree roots, and manhole lid covers that have flatted my tires, but my phone hasn't budged.

I've found that it's possible to use Google Maps, iMapMyRide and other GPS/workout apps, texting, and the iPod with the phone on the handlebars. I've been on concalls using headphones. It works fine, as long as you can overcome the wind noise in the microphone. Obviously, don't do any of this stuff in traffic... but if it's safe for you to do, the mount works fine to enable the iPhone to be used this way.

『This is a high quality mount that securely holds your iPhone. Some reviewers have claimed that the phone pops out over rough terrain. Common sense will tell you that this mount is not made for bull riding or off road biking. However, wrapping a velcro tie wrap or a rubber band around the phone and mount will keep the phone in place over the roughest terrain. I have put over 500 miles of road and off-road biking on mine without the phone falling out.』

My phone vibrated quite a bit so I had to place some fabric or paper towel between the holder and the back of the phone. Nothing damaging just annoying noise while riding. It's pretty bulky as well. After 3 weeks of riding, on smooth roads with my road bike, I noticed the holder seemed to be moving more than it did at first. When I detached the holder I noticed the bracket that attaches to the base had broken. So needless to say, money wasted. The plastic appears to be too brittle to withstand any vibration. As I said I ride on smooth roads and I have put less than 150 miles on my bike since purchasing this holder.』

『I was looking forward to having a clock radio that could dock and charge my iPhone. Unfortunately, the IP9 did not work with my iPhone. When I docked the iPhone, I got a message stating that this product is not designed to work with an iPhone and suggesting I turn on airplane mode (which contradicts the product's description). Also, I was not able to play music from my iPhone through the IP9 speakers. I sent it back.』

(Could be the best iPod alarm clock, but...)
『I have searched hard to find the "perfect" iPod alarm clock. For me, the iHome iP9 comes closer than anything else I found, but it does have some very annoying flaws.

In my opinion, the best features are:

* The alarm can be set to wake to a random song on an "iHome" playlist on your iPod. Only Sanyo seems to have a product with a similar feature, but I think theirs looks REALLY ugly.

* The backlight dimmer has 7 levels of brightness and can even be turned off.

* You can adjust the snooze time from 1 to 29 minutes in 1-minute increments.

* The alarm volume (for radio and iPod) gradually increases for "gentle" waking.

* The sound quality is quite good for such a small unit.

The things that annoy me about the unit are:

* The alarm set buttons are located directly behind the snooze bar, and hitting one of these buttons resets the alarm when the alarm is sounding. While the snooze bar is very big and has a bump that you can feel with your fingers, I fear that I will accidentally turn off my alarm one morning when just trying to snooze for a few more minutes.

* There is a beep when setting the alarm. While this offers audio confirmation of your alarm setting actions, it can be annoying if you are trying to set the alarm when your significant other is sleeping.

* The dial controls are cool in theory/aesthetic but are not so great in practice. It can be more time-consuming to use these to set the alarm time and other settings when compared to conventional buttons and a system where one sets the hour and minute independently. Also, the dials are mechanical (unlike an iPod) and lack an indent or other means for providing traction. So, your finger can slip, making them not so easy to turn. For this, I found a simple work-around: I stuck on each dial a small, round, self-adhesive, clear plastic bumper (something you can find in any hardware store). This makes it much easier to turn the dials, but it does not get around the fact that dials are not always the best interface.

* Personally, I find only the dimmest and off settings for the backlight to be of any use. Perhaps, the other backlight settings would be needed if the unit is placed in direct sunlight. However, I find them too bright, and it is very slightly annoying that I need to press the dimmer button to cycle through the 6 other "on" settings each time I turn the backlight off. While definitely better than some competing units whose backlight is always way too bright (e.g. the Sony ICF-CD3iP), even the dimmest setting can be rather bright in a totally dark room.

For me, the positive outweighs the negative when evaluating this unit as an iPod alarm clock. While not my primary usage (and paling in comparison to a dedicated home stereo), I found the sound on this unit to be surprisingly good when using the unit as an iPod speaker system for casual listening in a small room.』

The buttons would not work, the time did not change, etc. I "reset" the unit and tried again. Worked well for 2 days and did the same thing.     『I bought these headphones almost a year ago and they have served me well. A very good upgrade from most stock headphone and are very comfortable which is important! I took them to my trip to europe and lots to time traveling means lots of time wearing headphones. These are not top of the line headphones but very good sound in my opinion. For the price, they cannot be beat. Keep in mind, these are earbuds, and for music on the go so I was never expecting it to produce phenomenal sound. I was very disappointed when one of the earbuds stopped producing sound. I was ready to buy another pair when I read all the positive reviews about their customer service. I usually don't like to deal with any customer service if I don't have to(really bad experiences!). But I sent them an email about the warranty and within a day or two, they shipped another brand new pair of earbuds and I didn't have to send back the defective pair. Also it comes with another 1 year warranty. It is definitely the best customer service experience I've had with any product. There's really no risk if you haven't bought a pair yet. It is well worth the investment. One note that I have is that these are not good for jogging for working out, they tend to fall out after a lot of jiggling and the sweat doesn't help either. So I wouldn't recommend them for the gym/running.』

    『I purchased the Mivizu Nike+iPod sensor pouch so that I could avoid having to buy some lousy pair of $100+ Nikes in which to bury the Nike+ sensor. The item was exactly as promised and arrived quickly. I would say based on the price and the quality this is an excellent buy. Probably one of my top ten purchases ever - value-wise - on Amazon.

    The only two caveats:

    1) Buy more than one. They are super inexpensive and if you are like me, you have more than one pair of running/workout shoes. It's worth adding a couple more to your cart now rather than finding out how convenient and great it is and having to put in a whole separate order. And once it's on, you are definitely not going to go through the hassle of unlacing everything just to transfer to another shoe. "Set it and forget it" to quote some cheesy late night infomercial that escapes me.

    2) If you have already been using your sensor, you will want to recalibrate your stride/pace with the Mivizu set up. The reading will be different and the data will be off if you don't. That's simple enough and will make life easier in the long run.

It shipped quickly and arrived safely. I have had no issues with it and the screen protector actually works really well if you apply it correctly. There were no instructions but I was able to put it on after about 5 minutes of attempting to apply it. The case itself is not quite as snug as I'd like but seems to be holding up well. I don't like the fact that the volume button is covered although you can still use it. The same goes for the on/off button on the top. However, the holes align correctly for the camera/video to work without any problems. The white case looks a little cheap but isn't terribly unattractive. It is solid in color and if it had been a bit see through, would have looked much nicer. However, you get what you pay for. I've had no problem connecting the charger cord whatsoever. I haven't tried it on a standing charger but may update reveiw after I get one.
    If you want an inexpensive case with a nicely working screen protector at a budget price then this is a good bargain.』

    『I tried to use this item for about 20 minutes and threw it out. Kept falling off. Perhaps the vents in my car (2007 Mustang) are not well suited for this.』

    (Works very well for my old Lexus, but one issue)
    『This product installed pretty easily on my old Lexus' air vent and is very convenient for seeing who's calling. The mount installs with some expected slop/free play, but it doesn't wiggle around or rattle at all when driving and is actually quite stable. I use it with my iPhone 3Gs without any phone case. The mount location does not work great for speakerphone use because the vent is down lower in the cabin and the iPhone speakers and mic are at the bottom of the phone; a windshield mount that gets the phone higher and closer to the driver is probably better for that. I still prefer this mount over a windshield mount because in TX I need to put up a windshield solar screen for the hot summer days, and a windshield mount gets in the way of that. The iPhone clip part is very easy to securely slip the phone in and out of and I haven't experienced any scratching or other issues. The only issue I've had has been the soft rubber at the top of the iPhone clip that provides a very nice friction fit tore after a couple weeks of use. Arkon replaced it for me almost immediately, and the problem has not recurred yet, but I expect it might.』

    (Trust the bad reviews, this thing is junk)
    『I was *really* hoping this thing would work. It sounds perfect, right? An iPhone mount that you can take with you, and use in any car? As my mother used to say, "If it sounds too good to true, it probably is" -- that is, it is probably unrealistic. I imagine that the few people who have reported success with this have vents that this thing actually fits. But in my case, it scratched up the plastic on the vents and broke them so that I can no longer control the direction of the vents. The design of this relies on the vent being exactly like the one it was designed for, whatever that was, and was not engineered to be adjustable to fit a variety of vents. Caveat Emptor!』

    (Simple but effective)
    『I bought this unit on a recommendation from Terry White, who has a technology blog relating to iPhones, etc. The unit is in two pieces. One piece hooks on to the louvers of the air conditioning vent while the second piece is the cradle for the iPhone. The challenge for buyers (which is difficult to know in advance) is whether the design is a great match for your particular vehicle.

    My expectation is that it is probably at least adequate for all vehicles and probably outstanding for many. My particular vehicle, a Lexus 330, is somewhere in between. The piece that attaches to the louvers is two side by side prongs with an adjustable "leg" opposite that helps stabilize the unit on the vent. Where it may get tricky for some is that, depending on the distance between the louvers, the prongs will either line up optimally or you may have to adjust the spacing between the prongs. The unit permits adjustment of the spacing but it doesn't appear to be a strong design feature. For vents with two layers of louvers set at a 90 degree angle (the case in the Lexus 330) you need to place the prongs in such a way as to clip on one set of louvers without running into the other set.

    The ball joint adjustment on the connection between the the prong piece and the cradle permits you to swivel the cradle in whatever direction you want once the prongs are seated on the vent. That is what makes it possible to be used with a wide variety of air vents. But there is no doubt that it's optimal use is with vents that have a single set of louvers.』

    『It should state in bold type that this product will only work on iPhones that are not in a case. Too much of a hassle to take it out of it's case every time I want to mount it. I will try to shave the plastic down but I am pretty sure it will break given it's cheap build. It would have been easy for them to make it accommodate an iPhone in a case. Very disappointed.』

    『I bought this gadget because my CD player in the car died and the budget said that getting a new system wasn't a reality at this time. So, I got this and purchased a 2GB SD card(also takes USB but SD is less bulky) to hold my tunes on. The Player goes right in the 12v DC recepticle(cigarette lighter hole) and then you just turn the Player and the car radio to the same station. Will not work on stations with a strong signal with dedicated listeners(you have to pick a static station). You'll see which one plays the best and you'll get CD quality listening unless your MP3s that you uploaded are not of good quality. I don't know why it came with a remote unless your cigarette hole is located on the opposite side of the car that your in or you have T-Rex arms. The face plate(not the buttons) of the player did come off. Didn't interrupt the player and it was able to snap back in place. The player did it's job with providing me with commercial free music, prevented me from having to store CD in the car, and helped me keep money where it needed to stay on the budget by not buying a new stereo. I'm happy and jammin...』

    (Good news and Bad news)

    I have owned the FM car transmitter for about two weeks. There is good news and bad news. I will give the bad news first, so to finish on an up note.

    BAD NEWS

    1.The remote is utterly worthless whether you hold it near or far from the unit. Some buttons do not work at all others are erratic and in consistent. At first I thought that it was dead then, I discovered a transparent plastic strip that had to be pulled to allow the contacts of the battery to touch the remote contacts. There was no mention of this in the instructions.

    2. The instruction book is almost completely worthless. It does not correctly identify the controls. Has no drawing or photo of the controls. It mentions a 256MB memory for FM units that are black in color (more MB in units of a different color) but says nothing of how to use it. Gives little info for the remote control and misidentifies the controls on the unit to change the FM channel on the unit. Use the A and B buttons at the base of the unit to change channels.

    3. The supplied cord to the unit from the head phone of the sound source is too short, only 12½ inches long. The jack into the unit is 2.5 mm in size, while the standard head phone plug and jack is 3.5mm. The local Radio Shop does not stock this size of adapter. Fortunately Amazon does. It cost only $2.99 but shipping cost over $4.00.

    3.It plays SD, SDHC chips, USB flash drives and inputs from most any thing with a headphone jack.

    The MP3 files on the SDHC card as well as the USB flash cards play, but completely out of sequence that they are loaded in the chip. It jumbles the chapters all up. This makes it worthless for talking books. The forward or reverse buttons on unit do not move to the chapters in a regular order but jump around randomly.

    GOOD NEWS

    This unit is very clear and powerful. As a test, I have tried playing Mozart with a full symphony orchestra on my Sony Walkman. Feeding into the unit and played on the car FM. It plays with no distortion,no static, no engine ignition noise and is very clear and powerful. I can pick it up with a high quality FM portable 100 feet away and 50 feet with a $9.00 FM. This makes for an useful and unintended purpose, feeding from computers, CD players, TV's, Shortwave radios etc, most anything with a head phone outlet. in the house and receiving it around the house or in the yard, as long as you have a static and 60 Hz hum free 12 volt DC power source for the unit.

    There is one thing to be aware of this unit, it broadcast in 0.1 MHz or 100KHz channels spacing. FM radios in the US have 0.2MHZA or 200KHz spacing. If the unit is 0.1 MHz or 100 KHz off channel, it will broadcast with very bad distortion. All you have to do is to change the channel slightly to bring it on the right frequency and clear sound.

    (How can you not be happy with this?)
    『I use a golf GPS app on my iPhone and after shutting down most of the phones functions I hit the dead battery mark after 13 holes. I tried the Mophie Juice Pack-Air which is a slick package but at $80 it only charged my phone to 80% and so back it went. The Encore gives me a 1 full charge with the phone starting at less than a 10% charge, has a replaceable battery, and only costs $12! I can run the iPhone with all functions on and walk off the course with a 75% charge still left. Yeah, the Encore is not built like a tank but who cares? It only costs $12 and it works!』

    『I got this charger for around $12 which was the price of the previous model (without battery). I had had that model for while and saw a good opportunity to upgrade since I found I was always running out of power, especially when geocaching in the field. It does what it says, charges well and then can charge in the field. I don't know how long it will charge just on battery, but I don't run out of power any more. It does appear a bit flimsy but hey for $12 its a deal to me.』

    『I bought this for a long plane trip. For Me anything over an hour is long. This trip was from Ca to NC. I love it. It made my day so much better flying. Never ran out of power for my ZUNE. Watching Movies.』

    (Does what it says)
    『I was hesitant purchasing this product based solely on it's looks (how will it compliment my iphone?) and was considering the better looking (and more expensive) APC product. Good thing I went with this.

    The biggest difference between this product and everything else is that when you have your device connected (let's say iPod) and you're using it, it actually grabs the power from this product first, not the iPod. Most of the other products will only charge once you stop using your iPod. That means you can enjoy your iPod and have it fully charged at the same time. This has saved my life many times over flying 6-hours from coast to coast.

    Also, having the dual USB is awesome. I've now invested in the mini retractable USB cables for my iPhone, Blackberry, Nintendo DS and PSP and have used all of them successfully with this product. I also have them all in a tiny little Muji bag so it's small and convenient.

    I'm only giving it 4-stars because it really isn't pretty. But then again, it functions so well, who cares.』
