(TD's Shoutout!)
Bought this for my wife to cut the standard plug-in ear piece cord who was not to thrilled about ear pieces or technology. But she loves this ear piece...it looks sharp and is light weight with great range.

    (Leather IPhone 1st generation holster/case.)

    (Great product)

    (Great Case)

    (Nice Case)

(Great case and even better customer service)
This Case has been exceptional. Fits snugly but can access volume/Off and On easily without taking out of case. Worried at first about the magnet but it has not been a problem. Stays closed and keeps phone in place. Can use headphones with it in holster, as well. Great product for IPhones.
Great value for the price and looks like it's well designed!! Love the magnetic flap and the rotating clip...
I'm thinking of ordering another just in case for backup

I definitely love this case, and for the price it can't be beat. It's just snug enough to fit the iPhone (and can probably accommodate one with a hard case on it but I don't have one to test that with) and yet it's very easy to remove the phone, since the top sides are slightly exposed so you can get a good grip on the phone.

The inside is a sort of felt but I have not noticed it sticking to my phone and I have a screen protector and a covering on my phone.

The volume, silence, and hold buttons are easily accessible while the phone is in this case. And while I have not been called yet (just got this item earlier today) so I do not know if it can be easily heard through the case, I will say it would be an easy matter of just sliding the phone in upside down so that the speakers are exposed on the top.

The magnetic flap is great since velcro is way too loud and also wears out very quickly. The belt clip on this one is very sturdy and I don't think it would have many problems holding onto anything at all (but again, I just got the item so I can't say for sure).

The item also arrived within 3 shipping days (I live in FL) and only on standard shipping, so the service is awesome.

Overall this case is totally worth the price and is very sleek looking for the phone. I would not be embarrassed to have family / co-workers see this case, like with some others. The leather is also very soft and has a great feel to it. A+

Nice case, looks good serves its purpose. Well made and the price is great. At least 1/2 what you would pay at the Apple Store.
This is a great case with a very functional and secure magnetic flap. Not too big, not too small. Just right. I ordered one from Blue Harbor Online. It came very quickly. Unfortunately the clip broke off in short order. A little Gorilla Glue fixed it, so I didn't bother trying to get a replacement. But Jay from Blue Harbor saw my review and shipped out a replacement without my even asking. Now that is service! I will give this case to one of my co-workers (we all have iPhones at work) and make sure to tell this story about Blue Harbor Online. Who says that good customer service is dead!
Perhaps one of the best iPhone accessories in the market. The leather quality is genuine 100% lambskin leather. The sleek design comes with a slim belt clip allowing easy attachment to the belt with convenient access to your iPhone when you need it.

    customer 's review
    (Metallic Red)

(Decent back cover, but without screen protection)

    (Not bad at all)

    (Okay Case...Could be better)

    (CaseCrown Case)
It's a VERY good cheap alternative to most of the plastic cases out there. I had a silicone case before this one, and I like silicone for it's non-slip purpose, but it caused a lot of friction in my pockets and leather belt case. This one is great on my white iphone 3Gs and would think would go great with even the black one.

There is a metallic soft shine to it that looks very nice in my opinion. It feels soft to the touch and has a bit more grip than the phone itself that I wasn't expecting at all.

The clip is VERY secure to the point where I doubt it would pop off a regular standing drop. The only downside is the rough edges on the side that hugs the screen. It is very sharp snap that may leave scratches on the sides.

To minimize the scratching, make sure you insert the side with the volume buttons in last, and don't try to use a cloth or anything. Using a cloth will only have you take it off and reapply without the cloth.. the case clips on too tight for the cloth to be pulled out after the case is secure. The only way to prevent scratching is to get a skin for the back.

There is no rubber or silicon lining on the inside of the case to prevent the phone from moving, but my case is so secured to the phone that I doubt there will be much scratching from pulling it in and out of your pocket. Don't know about drops.

Make sure you clean the phone before clipping the case on so dust, dirt, sand, etc doesn't get trapped between the case and phone to scratch your phone.

I actually purchased a skinomi full body skin for the phone so it wouldn't get damaged from snapping cases on and off.

After applying my skinomi film, blow drying, and waiting an hour or two, I snapped on my CaseCrown skin and it did scratch the edges of my protective skin. I could imagine how bad the scratches would have been had I not bought the skinomi film.

I highly recommend skinomi if you're going to swap through multiple cases. If not skinomi, then try[...]. I opted for skinomi for the price.

With the scratching aside, this is a great case for the price. I like how the red edge shows on the side of the screen. Makes it almost feel like I have a product Red edition of the iPhone ;-)

This protective gear is only covering the back and sides, not the front screen. It was not made clear on the product description, otherwise I would not have ordered it. I have to order another separate film to protect the screen from scratching.

Another complaint about the case is that the inner surface has a little sharps from the molding process. I had to use a cloth to smooth the inner surface before inserting the phone to prevent scratches by the case itself.

I Iiked the color and feel. It was easy to get on. A little hard to get off, but not a deal breaker.
I had very high expectations for this case from all of the reviews I read. I am somewhat disappointed now that I have the case in my possession. The case does not go completely around the whole phone. The top and botton of the phone are left bare with no protection. I also do not like the fact that you have to "pop" the case on and off and always feel I will damage my phone when doing so.
Otherwise, I like the feel (kind of a soft plastic feel) and color. I would just like more protection for my phone and believe the case should lower price.

I was disappointed in this case. Very "cheaply" made. Threw it in the trash.

    (Cool)

    (NEVER BUY THIS ITEM!!!!)

    (DO NOT BUY)

    (Only a mirror...)

    (Good as a mirror.)
The front screen is very shiny and so it makes it hard to see in the sunlight.
I was so excited once I saw this item. It is such a good idea to convert the iphone to a mirror;however, this product completely disappointed me. The biggest flaw is that it changes all the colors while using the iphone. It is simply impossible to watch any movie or a video as the colors change. Also, this item took more than 15 days to reach my address.
This item is not even worth the ENTIRE one cent that it costs. The screen becomes obscured when viewing, it adds a green tint to your screen, scrolling is a pain. Would not recommend this to anyone.
This screen is only a mirror. Hard to see iPhone screen in the daylight and is so-so indoors. Not recommended.
If you need a mirror, this is what you need. But in the day light it is impossible to see the phone display. And at night is very difficult. Itook it off my phone in the same day.

    (Inspiretech iPhone 3G)

    (Great iPhone Case)

    (design flaw)

    (iphone case)

(Scratched up the back of my iPhone)
I love the case! fits perfectly with my iPhone, however, the color RED is not the same as the picture but that's alright, I will probably buy another one (different color). Lastly, seller is great...
This is a thin, hard case that encloses the iPhone very nicely! I have the blue case, and it has become a conversation starter as it looks really good. I've had mine for over 6 weeks and no problems or external scratches. My wife saw mine and had to get one too (and she loves it).
Please be warned, the case will scratch the back of your phone. how can anyone have positive review on this product is beyond me.
It's a cute case and fits well but gets dirty really easy.. but it may be that it's b/c it's light blue and not a dark color...
I was enamored with this case the first time I got it... great feeling material and sturdy, but buyer beware! the case will make irreparable scratches on the back of your phone, especially near the bottom part. It looks like this happens because the fit is not as snug as it should be, so there is a lot of chafing going on.

I don't care that much about protecting my phone's aesthetics, but I'm still pretty peeved that my phone was scuffed up by the case, and not because of my own mishandling.

    (pleasantly surprised)

    (Great product)

    (Great Slim Case)

    (Little black case....)
i love this case; it's slim doesn't make your phone bulky like other cases, the screen protector is great and i love the hot pink color. for the price you can't beat it. i know people who have spent $50 on cases for their iphone&this one is 10 x better!!
Fits like a glove and does its job. Great price and overall slickest case I've seen yet.
I like this case alot! It keeps the iPhone's slim profile and adds great protection while keeping all the external connections and buttons easily accessable. The screen cover works well and is thick enough not to only prevent scratches but also anything sharp or pointed that might come in contact with the screen. What else is there to say, it looks great, works well! No complaints here! For $7, you can't go wrong!
For $7 dollars this is a well-designed case with a good fit, it is a good value at that price point. The case is thinner than the Incase Slider by a few MM. The shape and rubber coating feel very good in the hand, the rubber coating is inside as well. My case had one spot on the back where the rubber was worn off or just not there. The "hard touch screen" is very flexible and about 2x to 3x the thickness of a normal screen protector and it doesn't stick to the screen, it is held in place by the rim of the case, I did not use it as I did not feel it would protect the screen from being CRACKED by a sharp object, it would protect from scratches. The case is lightweight and should handle a few waist high drops just fine. I'm happy with the purchase.

(Slim case that does it's job)

    (Precision Fit)

(Inspiretech iPhone 3GS cover - Red)

    (Brilliant iPhone cover!)

    (Loving it)
Very nice, slim case that has a nice smooth finish to it. I ordered the purple case, and it is a very nice deep purple color.

This morning, my cat decided the case needed a "drop test" and pushed my iPhone off the kitchen counter onto the floor. The iPhone bounced once but neither the phone nor the case have any dents or scratches. Another brand of case that was dropped from that height onto a similar floor split in half, leaving the iPhone sliding across the floor unprotected. This inspiretech case fits much better, and doesn't have the chance of coming off like that due to the style of construction.

At such a great price, I think I'll pick up a few more colors so I don't get bored with the purple.

Bottom line: if you are looking for a slim, polycarbonate case, then get this one. Here's why:

    1. Great precision fit. The top edge of this case almost exactly covers the chrome trim around the screen. I was worried that it would impinge on my screen protector (Power Support Crystal Film Set for iPhone 3G/3GS), but it doesn't even touch it. The rest of the case feels as if it was painted on the iPhone; snug and not loose at all. This case will not accidentally fall off your iPhone.

    2. The sides of the case extend above the surface of the screen by about 1 mm. This was important to me because I wanted at least some protection on the top of my iPhone.

    3. Does not feel or look "cheap".

    4. Fast shipping. I ordered the case on a Friday and it arrived Tuesday. (Mine shipped from Walnut, CA and I live near Los Angeles, CA.)

I got the cover for my wife within a week with standard shipping. It fits very well on the new iPhone 3GS with all the keys / connectors easily accessible. Highly recommended if you dont want to spend [...] bucks in Apple or AT&T stores
I've researched iPhone covers a lot, and spent far too many $ on covers, only to upgrade them within a few weeks. This is the perfect cover, the material is just right with it's combination of metallic&matt finish, it offers great protection, and does not show dust/scratches.

Besides, it comes in a number of colours, and is one of the most reasonably priced covers out there.

I would recommend it for everyone!

Awesome product, awesome price. Just be careful when removing the case. The inner plastic is susceptible of cracking. Otherwise an incredible deal. Product also came in much quicker than expected.

As for the review stating that the case is a probable cause of his film being lifted up is highly likely and personally most certain of the fact that it's a film application error and NOT due to the case. Unless he/she has a film that covers the screen 100% from corner to corner, which the case then may be the cause of this incident. However, films such as those are completely unnecessary as well as ugly.

(Didn't work with my 3G iPhone. Did work with friends older iPhone.)

(An excellent iphone accessary with very competive price)
The "in use" LED on the battery would flicker when I had it plugged into my 3G iPhone and instead of charging the battery on my phone, it would actually discharge it.
I also tried it on another new 3G iPhone with the same result.
Then I tried it on an old style iPhone and it worked perfectly.
The "in use" LED didn't flicker and it charged the phone quickly.
Not worth returning for the price so I gave it to my friend with the old style phone.
I also purchased the "Iphone 3G, ipod external battery pack last 30 hours
Sold by: Genji Sports, Bozeman Inc. (seller profile)
$37.88" at the same time and it works great with my 3G iPhone.
Wish this other one worked as it is somewhat smaller than the one that actually worked.
Genji Sports was more than helpful when I contacted them about the issue and offered a replacement or return without issue.
I would purchase from them in the future.
Not their fault it didn't work with my 3G iPhone.

I purchased this product for my iphone and ipod. The product design looks cool and very nice. Its performance and functionality is also excellent. If I connected this battery pack with my 8G iphone, it will take less than 1.5 hours to fully charge up my iphone. One time I bring to with me to a trip, during the 10 hours flight,I watched total 3 movies, when I arrived, I still had plenty of battery remained (more than 80% battery left) when I arrived at the airport. I found this battery charger also can charge up my ipod video. I did a simple test, I found the ipod battery life was extended to by at least 300%. This battery showed no leakage at all. For example, I put this battery aside for 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, I found this battery is still full. This is really amazing. I used to purchase a Lenmar powerpack 2200mAh and found its quality is not good as this t128 powerpack, especially on the leakage performance. This is really powerful battery pack. I really enjoy using this battery pack. I like to purchase some cell phone tips from this seller and plan to use it to charge up my cell phone and my son's Nintendo DS game console. Very nice unit. Thank you.

    (GoGo Charger exceeded my expectation)

    (Great with my iPhone)

(Charger for games and my cell/phone&PDA)
I've had a couple of other portable chargers in the past that were less than stellar. So, I ordered the GoGo Charger 3300 expecting more of the same. What a surprise and a pleasure this little baby is! It fully charges all of my family's phones, now, as I ordered two more including the 2500 for my wife. My daughter is at college and, now, is never without power for her phone. The younger two kids also use it in the car and on flights for powering their handheld games. Good value--better performance than I've seen from others on the market. Overall: A+++ rating.
My iPhone keeps running out of power even under normal daily use...especially when I want to watch a movie on a long airplane trip. I love this PowerPack. I did get the additional adaptor for a PSP. That's fun, too. Makes traveling very easy.
    Hi,

This is an incredible powerpack to go. It's just a little bigger than an iPod and it can charge my Motorola Razor phone about three times before the PowerPack needs to be recharged. The same connector also charges my husband's Blackberry.

I got the optional game player connectors for my son's Sony PSP and found it compatible with my Kodak camera.

So, when we go on vacation, none of us have to worry about being out of power. Love it!

My husband ended up getting the 2500 at a trade show just for himself. A little less power but also a little smaller. GoGo PowerPack - USB charger for mobile devices

Out of the box, charges and supplements iPhones (including the 3G), iPods and all devices that have a USB charge cable (if it can charge up on your computer, that same cable fits the USB port in the PowerPack.) A mini-USB connector is included free to make many other mobile devices compatible. Small enough to tuck in your glove box, briefcase or purse, and powerful enough to recharge a mobile device many times before the PowerPack itself needs recharged (based upon device battery size). For most phones, its about three to four times. Charge the PowerPack from the wall ... and Go! Power when you need it. It's rechargeable! Use for years!Other connectors available separately to connect with other cell phones, PDAs, GPS navigators, mobile game players, MP3s, and cameras, among others. Don't need THIS much power, check out GoGo Chargers' GoGo PowerPack 2500.

(Not an Apple product but does the same job)

    (iphone connector)

    (Fast Shipper)

    (USB cable)

    (Great Product for the price!)
Although this may not directly be an Apple product, it gets the job done with a price you can almost steal it for. I would recommend to anyone needing this cable. Why waste more money on the apple cable?
This item is same as the Apple adapter which cost upwards of $20. You can buy several in case one breaks.
Exactly what I ordered and needed!!! Got here really quick too!!!

    I'm one happy customer!

My roommate lost the cable that came with her Nano. Foe under a dollar I was able to replace it with a similar cable that works just the same.
This product does the same thing as the real one execpt for the price. It is awesome!
Use the Dock Connector to USB Cable to charge and sync your iPhone or iPod with your Mac or Windows PC. This USB 2.0 cable connects your iPhone or iPod - directly or through a Dock - to your computer's USB port for efficient syncing and charging or to the Apple USB Power Adapter for convenient charging from a wall outlet.
The iPod Dock Connector to USB Cable offers high speed data transfer for quickly loading an entire music library on iPod or iPod mini and convenient charging. The cable can also be connected to the iPod USB power adapter for charging on-the-go. Compatible with iPod models with dock connector. Supports either USB 1.1 or 2.0.

    (works as good as Apple)

    (Apple USB Power Adapter)

    (Power Adapter for iPod Nano)

(Overpriced, but what are you going to do?)

(I'm glad the prongs don't fold down)
I paid ten bucks for this and it works as good as the what what is sold at the Apple store.
The device works properly. The shipping was a problem. It took 4 weeks to arrive. It was supposed to be here before the end of May, but didn't arrive until June 9. I ordered in plenty of time for a trip and it arrived the day we came home from the trip.
We had trouble finding a charger for one of the new ipod nanos until we got this one. It works great!
Apple rips off its customers with these products. How much does it cost them to make this thing? $1? I like Apple computers and IPODS, but they really stink when it comes to buying extras for their products.
The previous Apple power adapters I've had came with the prongs that fold down into the adapter, and I hated them because I always had issues with them. They seemed prone to longevity problems within the first few months of owning them.

Not so with this Apple power adapter I got for my iPod Touch (1st gen). Its prongs are fixed and that's a plus for me. I purchased this because I was having problems charging my iPod Touch on my iMac... either it wouldn't charge, or sometimes it would even be drained further by the time I came back to check on it. I tried fiddling with the power/sleep settings to see if that helped, to no avail.

I'm very pleased with this adapter as it does what it claims it'll do: Charge my iPod Touch. No, the cord that comes with it isn't long enough for me to have it plugged into the wall and play my iPod Touch games at the same time, but my Touch is charged quickly enough that I can do without it until it's charged.

No problems so far, so I'm happy.

Featuring an ultra-compact design, this power adapter offers fast, efficient charging at home, in the office, or on the go.

(Awesome book but wait for 3.0 edition)

(Excellent introduction, gets you up to speed quickly.)

    (Great book for getting started)

(Best book to learn iPhone development)

    (Good for a non-Apple person)
Great book, but next edition covers SDK 3.0 and includes corrections. The eBook is already out, the paperback is coming early July 2009.
I picked up this book after learning certain areas of the iPhone SDK from reading the documentation and working on an iPhone project for some time. All of the stuff that I didn't know was covered in this book in enough detail to fire up XCode and start coding right off the bat. Authors do a great job on covering most of the basics and explaining how things work behind the scenes (whenever such explanations are necessary). If you are just starting out or need to quickly get up to speed on certain APIs, this book would be a great investment.
This is a great book for getting started with iPhone development. (NOTE: If you don't already know Objective-C programming you should first read through a different book.) The authors do a really good job of walking you through the steps of a task and slowly expecting you to be able to do it yourself. This really keeps your brain working and makes you really learn it.
I have all the books on iPhone development plus every bit of video, documentation and sample code, and out of all that I can tell you that if you want to follow a "path of least resistance" in learning how to code, get this book just do it from cover to cover. Be sure to type it all in with your fingers so that it gets integrated into your real-world experience and sense memory.

The authors have clearly taken great pains to make sure you are introduced to what you need to know in an orderly fashion so there are no missing parts which will cause you confusion and wasted time later on. Don't skip around or end the book early or you'll miss the introduction of some essential knowledge.

Once you get this book, be sure to visit their super helpful website and mark up the book with the few corrections before you get started.

There is this book, and then there are all the others. Take it from someone who has studied the "art of the explanation" for a couple of decades. This book is first-class.

So far, I've found this book to be just the ticket in understanding how to program for the iPhone. I've got plenty of development experience in a variety of languages (primarily C# and VB, but also varying amounts of Perl, Ruby, Python, Java), but nothing specific to Apple, much less Objective C.

I'm following the examples. They all work so far (a definite plus). We'll see how the book holds up now that my phone has been updated to 3.0. I can't fault the book for that, though.

I think the book has been a very good introduction to the iPhone SDK.

Are you a programmer looking for a new challenge? Does the thought of building your very own iPhone app make your heart race and your pulse quicken? If so, then Beginning iPhone Development is just the book for you.

Assuming only a minimal working knowledge of Objective-C, and written in a friendly, easy-to-follow style, Beginning iPhone Development offers a complete soup-to-nuts course in iPhone and iPod touch programming.

The book starts with the basics, walking you through the process of downloading and installing Apple's free iPhone SDK, then stepping you though the creation of your first simple iPhone application. You'll move on from there, mastering all the iPhone interface elements that you've come to know and love, such as buttons, switches, pickers, toolbars, sliders, etc.

You'll master a variety of design patterns, from the simplest single view to complex hierarchical drill-downs. You'll master the art of table-building and learn how to save your data using the iPhone file system. You'll also learn how to save and retrieve your data using SQLite, iPhone's built-in database management system.

You'll learn how to draw using Quartz 2D and OpenGL ES. You'll add MultiTouch Gestural Support (pinches and swipes) to your applications, and work with the Camera, Photo Library, and Accelerometer. You'll master application preferences, learn how to localize your apps into other languages, and so much more.

Apple's iPhone SDK, this book, and your imagination are all you'll need to start building your very own best-selling iPhone applications.

    (quality issues)

(Great Product Save the Day On plane)

    (Does what it says)

    (Great Idea, Terrible Quality)

    (Great features but marginal execution...)
the led indicator lights on this battery never worked. also the runtime is way less than my internal device battery. it is also made of cheap plastic material which scratches easily. i ended up returning this for a refund [...]
I bought this for a long plane trip. For Me anything over an hour is long. This trip was from Ca to NC. I love it. It made my day so much better flying. Never ran out of power for my ZUNE. Watching Movies.
I was hesitant purchasing this product based solely on it's looks (how will it compliment my iphone?) and was considering the better looking (and more expensive) APC product. Good thing I went with this.

The biggest difference between this product and everything else is that when you have your device connected (let's say iPod) and you're using it, it actually grabs the power from this product first, not the iPod. Most of the other products will only charge once you stop using your iPod. That means you can enjoy your iPod and have it fully charged at the same time. This has saved my life many times over flying 6-hours from coast to coast.

Also, having the dual USB is awesome. I've now invested in the mini retractable USB cables for my iPhone, Blackberry, Nintendo DS and PSP and have used all of them successfully with this product. I also have them all in a tiny little Muji bag so it's small and convenient.

I'm only giving it 4-stars because it really isn't pretty. But then again, it functions so well, who cares.

This a great idea, especially for travel. Unfortunately, the product is very cheaply made. When first plugged in it felt as though the metal contact blades were loose and unstable. I can twist the unit slighty to get the green charge light to come on but then it goes off (indicating that it is not working). Do not bother with this until made by a higher quality manufacturer.
The features are excellent, two USB chargers plus battery for recharging without AC. The wall charger works as expected, allowing 2 USB devices to charge, so no waiting for one to finish before plugging in the other. I use this nightly to charge up my mobile phone and Bluetooth headset. The battery does not list it's capacity, not in the documentation and not even on the battery itself. This makes one question how weak it is. I let my phone go completely dead and was able to bring it to a full charge using only the battery, but only once. The battery in the Encore had no juice left, so it is pretty low capacity. Most USB battery based changers can push 2 or 3 recharges, this can do only one. It did work though, so it can help while in the field or airplane. I wish the battery capacity were higher, and wish it was better built (it just feels cheap and cheesy) but the features are good. So far, it does what it says.

    EDIT: September 2008
It's been just over a year now. This unit travelled with me for most of that time. It just DIED. It will no longer charge the internal battery, and it will no longer charge either of the 2 USB devices able to be attached to it, even when plugged into the wall. Nothing, completely dead. (NOTE: The battery is fine, it can be charged by another charger, but not this device...) I suspect it is out of warranty as well. What was that about marginal execution? Perhaps that was a bit too generous. (Still great features, maybe a less than marginal execution)

    (Works as it Should)

(Good product for a reasonable price)
this charger cord no longer functions...i used it 3 times, and it's broken now...hey- i DID get my money's worth though- when i bought it it was 76 cents ...can't really complain about that....you're much better off going with Griffin or Belkin though....

This product does precisely what it is supposed to do. I have tested it several times and can vouch for its quality.
The iPod wall charger did exactly what it said it would do - charge. The prongs catch sometimes on the iPod, but you can't beat the price compared to an Apple charger.
Compatibility: All Apple iPod models (except iPod Shuffle).

    (are these real tools?)
They are too small and will hurt your fingers. I bought it thinking I would be saving so money to buy it in a package. Half way through taking out my iMacs old hard drive I ended up giving up on these tools and went and bought some decent ones at my local hardware store, and let me tell you... what a difference. It so cheap that I would say do waste your money, but I would say don't waste your precious time with this. A simple 10 minute job could take your hours with this!

    (So far so good!)

    (Brilliant Design!!!)

    (********A MUST HAVE)

    (Perfect with 1 inperfection)

    (Protect your absurdly expensive phone.)
I just got the otterbox case for the first iPhone and it is so far the 4th case that I have gotten and the one I have liked the most there are only three slight things:

    1) It is slightly bulky, but took one day or so to get used to and it still easily slides in and out of pockets.
    2) I can't change my phone from silent/vibe to ring because that is the only outside button that is not accessible
    3) I didn't like the bubbling of the screen protector, but this was easily fixed by adding a direct screen protector to the phone then the case and I haven't had any issues with two screen protectors and the touch screen response and it actually looks clearer.

Other than that so far so good! Otterbox has definitely won me over, will def get another one when I upgrade phones.OtterBox for iPhone 1G only (Yellow) Defender Series

The first Otter Box I bought for my I-Phone was the incorrect size and MY FAULT for not designating 3G. They sent me another case for free - replacing the non-fitting case! Amazing customer service. I took the case with me to Iraq and it survived helicopters, HumV and MRAP rides through the desert and looks like new. It is very easy to use all the functions of the iphone and the seal is extremely tight. A great choice for a person that knocks their phone around and wants complete protection!
    Ok,
I love my iPhone. I mean love my iPhone. I was carrying around a leather case that was cool and sleek but always worried about dropping the phone. I happened to see this in the MacLife magazine and looked at the reviews. I was skeptical, but decided to go ahead anyway.
BUY THIS PRODUCT if you're worried about possibly dropping your iPhone and went to keep it secure from damage. Don't know what these folks are complaining about with the case. They are OBVIOUSLY using the product incorrectly. The phone fits into the case with the face of the phone AWAY from you. It locks in securly. Almost too securly sometimes because it takes a tug or two to remove the phone.
I'm very careful with my iPhone but would not be worried at all if the phone fell off the desk, was in the rain, ect. with this case on it. The case comes in 3 pieces. You put the iPhone into the bottom, snap on the top and then put the silicone rubber around the two pieces. All the plugs and holes have little silicone stoppers that get connected.
As far as docking, yeah, it would be a problem, but the charger fits into the bottom of the phone no problem. So to those that love their iPhone, what's more important. Digging out the original wall charger or not using this case and after a fall looking at a cracked screen.
For those crying about the bubbles on the screen, a little investigation on the internet has a solution from the manufacturer. You put a little bit of face cream or lotion on the screen and this removes all bubbles. Did I do that, HECK NO. What I did was go to BestBuy and buy the silicone screens that fit over the iphone for 12.00 Wipe the phone down, use the little plastic card and it removes all bubbles. Then put the phone in the the defender and have no fear at all.
I've got this thing on my belt and never had a problem loosing, falling off or not felling like my investement was fully protected. The O-N-L-Y drawback is that the case is bulky. Much bulkier than the sleek leather case that I was carrying. So on Sunday's I'll carry it in my jacket pocket instead of wearing the she-she-foo-foo leather case on my hip (laugh). But if the phone takes a tumble from my fingers, I'll won't worry (as much) that I'll be looking at a cracked screen and just crying because my beloved iPhone needs to be replaced.
For the small investement, you CAN'T GO WRONG. Lastly, The makers have a specific model for the iPhone 3G model. This is a no-brainer and all it took was a little research first. If you love your iPhone, worry about pulling it out in the rain, or worse yet, having it slip from those pretty cases and hit the floor, this is the case for you.

This case is awesome. It has a yellow hard case were the iphone goes and then a black silicone case that goes around the yellow hard case. It works like a heavy duty case especially at work were the phone could easily fall
or slip. It come with a protected screen and thats were the default is. Every time you install the iphone inside
a bubble of air remains because is plastic protection and not a sticky static protection screen film. I put the iphone 3 times and the 4th time the bubble was a little smaller so i kept this way. Of course when you turn on the phone the screen brightness takes the small bubble out but you can still see it a little bit. Otherwise is a good heavy duty case for a valuable phone.....

The defender case for your iPhone 3G is quite possibly the best case on the market. In this review I will address issues brought to light by other reviewers as well as detailing why it is I believe the Defender by Otterbox is the only logical solution on the market.

The case is in three pieces which makes the overall phone larger than most phones on the market. The iPhone also happens to be one of the most expensive phones on the market - if you believe there may be a potential accident in which you drop your investment, then protection is what is key. The bulk directly translates to superior protection. While not completely waterproof, the case does protect against rain and moisture - I just wouldn't go swimming with it.

A previous review mentions that the phone will fall out of the belt clip, claiming that you may not be able to hear the phone if it were to fall. Either that customer had a fluke of a clip or they weren't placing it into the clip properly (which is my bet). The clip connects the phone in no fewer than four locations, providing ample connectivity for active people. I work in the film industry, climbing ladders, running around, constructing sets, and cutting lumber - the phone has not fallen from the holster once.

The issue with docking is a valid concern, but considering there are many other ways to charge your phone (via the included USB adapter to connect either to your computer or using a wall socket) I feel this argument is trivial, close-minded and moot.

The only people I would not recommend the Otterbox Defender 3G case are those individuals who have owned and operated an iPhone for a considerable amount of time prior to purchasing the case. The case does add considerable mass the your phone, and as such, if you've already adapted to using your phone in its slimmer profile, you may get annoyed at the added girth. If, however, you have just recently purchased an iPhone, or are planning on buying one soon - do not hesitate your purchase.

The Otterbox Defender is the only case of the market that fulfills the purpose of a phone case: protection.

The OtterBox for iPhone Defender series is unlike any case we've made in the past! While your touch screen is covered by a patented thin membrane, it still remains fully usable through the case. Not only that, but all ports remain accessible through convenient silicone plugs. Sync and charge your phone right through the case! Included with the case is a holster style belt clip for carrying convenience. This case offers bump, drop and shock protection. The only feature not usable through the case is the silence switch.

...because the belt holster is a disaster. I have had two previous Otter Box cases for my original iPhone and was very pleased with them. I was extremely disapppointed on receiving the case for the iPhone 3G S. The case is barely held in place by the holster. The phone falls out simply under its own weight. The original iphone holster actually wraps part way around the front of the phone for a very secure hold.

But, if you want maximum protection and don't care about using the belt holster, I'd still recommend the case; no better protection. Just don't buy it from Otter Box website as it sells for $5-$18 more than you can find it for on Amazon! WTF?

I got this at the recommendation of a friend. I'm not very concerned that I can break the iPhone now if I accidently drop it. The iphone first fits into a hard plastic protective shell, and then in a rubber outer shell. I've seen two complaints, one is about the plastic screen cover sticking to the screen. It does do that. You can do the very light dusting of baby powder, Gold Bond is recommended, but I didn't have thatso I just used regular baby powder. It does leave a visible residue, but the screen doesn't stick. The other issue is the belt clip. It is designed so that the phone faces inward, I really didn't have any problems with it, but I just thought it was too bulky to hang on my belt so I just slide the phone into my pocket. The other problem I see is that some connectors don't allow you to plug in to the iPhone while it is in the case. The basic supplied Apple connector works ok, but others, such as in car tuners and chargers require you to take the phone out of the case to use it. If you use the phone in your car a lot for the dual purpose of listening to the ipod portion, you might not like this cover as you'll have to be taking the phone out of the case all the time.
I absolutely, hands down reccomend an Otterbox case for any phone you have. I previously owned an Otterbox case for my Blackberry 8820, and was very pleased with it. This Otterbox case for the IPhone 3g fits my 3GS perfectly and snuggly. Money cannot buy the level of comfort having my phone in this case brings me. The case fits and contours the phone beautifully. Providing three layers of protection, this case is great for everyday use, and also for outdoors people who work or play in the elements. The case provides a polycarbonate membrane to cover the screen, a polycarbonate plastic shell which is very tough, and feels like good quality plastic, and a third silicone rubber shroud that goes over the plastic casing. The case when assembled looks amazing. The case feels very solid in the hands, and takes away the fear of accidental drops or scrapes. There is an oil slick, or water type effect from the membrane pressing on the screen, but this personally does not bother me. This case is rock solid, and worth every penny. The silicone covering feels very durable and high quality, as does the polycarbonate shell. I tip my hat to Otterbox once again for making a quality product. I believe in previous models of the 3G case, Otterbox did not leave an opening for the vibration on/off switch. This issue has been corrected, and you now have access to the switch with the case on. In conclusion, if you have been having doubts, go for it! This case is worth every penny. It provides a great level of comfort knowing that your phone is safe. Being that there is no protection plan available for the phone from AT&T, you can't put a price on the comfort and security this case brings. As a bonus, you can order this case, and one day shipping for less than the price of the actual case on Otterbox's site. I believe the case runs $49.99 on the Otterbox site. I ordered the case yesterday (6/30) and one day shipping, and paid $48 dollars, plus some change. I received the case this afternoon, and am very satisfied with it.
I've had this case for about three months and think it is a great protector for the iPhone 3G. It took a week to get used to pushing the buttons through the case. I did not experience oil slick between screen and screen protector as mentioned by others. I removed the plastic screen cover because I had problems with screen sensitivity at the edges. So now my case is not water resistant, but I can still drop my iPhone without worry. At this time, I think it is still the best case available for protection.
This is by far the best fitting, easiest and most complete protection I have seen for my iphone. Some have complained about the morea patterns (oil slick) from the case and iphone screen interface and I left my iphone screen protector on and have not had the effect. Durable, user friendly and a great product. I like the belt clip, and the fact is has a "stay open" position for ease of placement and removal, then you disengage the stay open and it fits securely. I like the feel and size as it fits my larger hands well. Great Product!
This OtterBox for iPhone 3G Defender Series was designed to accommodate the 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G models ONLY. Included with the case is a ClipStand holster for carrying AND viewing convenience! customer 's review
    (Product not exactly as described)

(You _can_ get this to work without installing software, but it's a pain)

(Pretty disappointing for a network camera)

(LOREX LNE3003 Wireless Network Camera keeps an eye on things)

(Not all bad, but in dire need of software updates...)
The Lorex LNE3003 is described as plug and play. That's true if you leave it plugged into your network all the time. If you want to use the wireless part of it that you so dearly paid for, you may be in for a rude awakening.

I have a WPA protected network. This camera doesn't support it. You have to downgrade your security to use it. Lorex says "no networking experience necessary". That's not exactly true either. You most likely will have to change something on your network and must have a basic knowlege of your routers network security to do so. I needed to downgrade to WEP (ancient technology) as well as change the network name.

My network's name was "scott wireless". If your network has a space in the name, this camera may not support it either. Nowhere in the instructions does Lorex tell you this. Buried on their site, it will tell you only single names are supported.

So then had to change my security settings on my network and on every wireless device on it as well (2 laptops and 2 iphones), I had to do it all again to change the name of the network.

Besides all that, the pictures are good, but I haven't used it much as I like having my network with better security.

The documentation for this product undersells the product.

As a Mac user, Internet Explorer and ActiveX is not an exciting proposition, which the other reviewers point out. However, you don't need IE or any other software beyond the basic Mac installation to make this camera do its thing.

You will, however, need to know how to find the camera on your network. The camera ships with DHCP enabled, and you need to go your DHCP server (such as your router) and find the IP address that corresponds to this camera. This means looking at the most recently assigned IP address shortly after you plug-in the camera, or comparing the Ethernet hardware address with the entries in your router's DHCP logs.

The above isn't easy for a networking novice, but intermediate or advanced users can probably sort through this. I assume the softare that gets installed serves to find the camera, based on the directions, but I didn't use it.

Once you know the IP address, you can point FireFox or Safari to that IP address and login as admin/admin. From there, you can stream the live feed with QuickTime. The video quality is amazingly good--Far better than the built-in iSight on my MacBook Pro. For the camera quality and integration with standard protocols and tools, this camera really shines. You can also integrate the camera with email and FTP without requiring a computer, which is the whole point. The web UI is fair at best--it's a little clunky, but functional and consistent. For remote access where bandwidth might be limited, the right decision was probably made to keep the UI light.

The camera itself is well-constructed, but it's not going to win any beauty pageants. It's functional, which is perhaps all that is needed of a security camera. The base, arm extension, and a ball joint enable a number of mounting options, but you may find yourself needing to build a custom bracket for specialized positions.

There is a port on the bottom for connecting an external speaker to use the camera as an intercom--I am guessing that use case does require software, but I didn't investigate it first hand. There's also some remote access services that I didn't explore either, but would clearly be handy for the network novice user who doesn't want to deal with static IPs, port forwarding, or FTP.

Overall, the build construction, the ease of use, and the incredibly good quaity video warrants 4 stars. However, the lack of crisp, clear documentation and discovery software that precludes using a Mac when it should not costs the camera 1 star. It is a good product, if you can get through the initial hurdle. The camera exceeded my expectations on video quality, but was about what I expected otherwise.

I should have known better. Once I read "No networking knowledge required!" I knew I was in for a rough time.

After reading other reviews and the problems that it had setting up on a Mac (which at this day and age, is reason enough to dock a review one star), I set it up on my D-Link router and Vista. The installation wasn't that bad with standard software that required really nothing more than clicking away.

The MAJOR downside is that the Lorex LNE3003 camera uses the horribly insecure WEP for wireless security. My D-Link router uses WPA2 (higher security), so I had to downgrade (temporarily) in order to get this up and running. Seriously - WEP's been insecure for years, and for people to expect to downgrade their wireless security at home is another reason to dock this camera another star.

As for the video/audio quality - it's not that bad. VGA at 640x480 at 30fps was tolerable. You can use the LED lights to brighten up a dark room (and I do mean brighten up because they're super bright.) It also has an average internal microphone and external speakers. I've noticed that a lot of people want to spy on their pets, and I'm not sure talking to them through the speakers wouldn't serve any other purpose but to confuse and scare the pets (but I digress...).

I didn't have a chance to try out the viewing on the iPhone because I don't have one - but it seems a bit strange to market this with the "you can view it on your iPhone!" without having rudimentary Mac support for installation.

If you're looking for a home camera, skip this one. I feel that Lorex didn't do due diligence in making this easy as it sounds for most people to connect at their home. Seriously - if you're going to market it for "no network experience only!" you have to make it non-aggravating.

Here are a few things that would make this a 4 star camera:
    * Mac install support. Seriously. It isn't that hard.
    * Wireless security support for other than WEP. Supporting WPA, WPA2, etc is practically mandatory nowadays. People are going to return this in droves if they realize they have to make a choice between their camera or their laptop's security.

I look forward to updates that will address these issues. Lorex is off to an ok start, but if you're in the market for a wireless camera, I'd suggest Cisco WVC210 Wireless-G PTZ Internet Security Video Camera -w/2-Way Audio or D-Link DCS920 Wireless-G Internet Camera. This way, you're more likely to ensure smoother connectivity to your home network and less issues from a more reliable vendor.

The box that the Lorex LNE3003 comes in says, "Connect, See, Hear, and Protect." After a 45-minute installation process, I was able to do all of these things smoothly.

This camera can be mounted anywhere, indoors or outside, as long as it is in the range of your wireless network. In my case, this camera was able to communicate to my old Linksys WRT54G router from a distance of 75 feet. The limiting factor, with regard to placement, is the need for an electrical outlet.

The installation card outlines a seven-step process that goes through the software installation; the connection of the camera to a home network; enabling the record and playback of video; and the remote viewing on the Internet through the use of a third-party website called Yoics. With my Linksys router, and a Vista-based laptop, this moderately-detailed installation took about 45 minutes. The installation calls for a security setting of "WEP" in the network router, which meant going into the router configuration software to make the change, which then resulted in having to propagate this new security setting into the two other computers that are on my home network. Unlike the USB port on a PC, Ethernet connections are not yet a plug-and-play architecture.

The quality of the video depends on the video settings that are used. Through the Lorex software, the video was reasonable smooth with natural colored tones, while the audio seems acceptable, and it is in-sync with the video. Viewing the video stream through a web browser yielded a more jerky picture like those that you often see on a web cam.

The end result is that I now have the ability to keep an eye on our home while we are away, as well as an eye on Wilson the cat.

I admit, I have no nefarious needs for this surveillance camera. I'm a pretty addicted dog lover. I love my shih tzu. But I've always wondered just what he gets up to when I'm not home. I own an iPhone, which this product supports. The Lorex LNE3003 appears to be the solution!

    So, let's begin...

    SETUP:

First, this product proudly exclaims "It really is that easy!" all over the box. This had me very afraid, but I opened the box anyway. (It's like people who say, "Trust me!")

So, is it THAT easy? Nope. Not even close. First, you need a Windows system to set this up. The software simply doesn't work for a Mac if you want to do the full software install. The web install WILL work on the Mac as long as you know the IP of the LNE3003. I had to go into my router's setup and find out which IP the surveillance camera had taken and log in that way. In any case, with a Mac, you're not going to be recording your camera's feed at the moment, because the software doesn't fully support the Macs!

With that out of the way, how does it perform on the Windows side?

Well, setup was a bit of a pain in the butt. If you want to use the camera's built-in wireless adapter, you still have to set it up with an ethernet cable the first time, which to be honest in this day and age is sort-of ridiculous. But that's not the major problem. I could not for the life of me get the wireless feature to work. And only AFTER you open the box and read the paperwork do you find out that this camera does NOT support anything other than WEP encryption. Really? In 2009? And the really odd thing is that the camera FOUND my SSID-enabled WPA2 network! So the camera itself appears to support WPA2, but the software doesn't! Anyway, even after disabling all my network security, I still could not get this camera to connect to my network. It kept saying "Enabling Wireless" on the screen, but it was never actually connected. I gave up after half an hour of constant attempts.

After you do the initial setup, you have to create a Yoics account which allows you to "log in" to your "account" to monitor your camera's feed away from your home. This was SUPPOSED to be really easy as well (the documentation tells you so!), but, alas, it wasn't easy at all. At first, I thought it was all working smoothly. It detected the camera and told me to set up the "Video Stream" which I did. So the video-stream was installed to my free Yoics account. I could access this from my Mac and Windows computers with no issue. But, when I'm out and about, I want it to work on my iPhone, which was the whole point of the device...

No matter what I did, the iPhone simply would not show the feed. Instead, after logging in to my account from the phone, I just had three strange icons on the screen that didn't do anything. I did some searching on the good ol' Internet, and found that came iPhone does NOT support the Video Stream. Instead, you need to install the "Camera Feed." Well, OK, but there's no documentation anywhere that says you have to do this, and I had no idea how to add it, as you can't add this manually. Eventually, after removing the camera and adding it upwards of 10 times, it actually showed BOTH Video Stream AND Camera Feed as supported activities for my camera! I eagerly added both, and yes, the iPhone login works great, and I can see what the camera see, albeit at a slower refresh than perhaps some would like. It's definitely useable over the 3G Internet of my iPhone, though.

Seeing as how I've spent most of this review complaining about the setup, how does the actual product work?

    THE PRODUCT:

Well, it works! For the most part! You just have to get by the awful installation, realize that the Mac software simply doesn't work, and you'll be fine. I honestly think that Lorex should remove the "Mac compatible" literature from their box, as it's simply misleading, as well as refine their instructions for getting the Camera Feed to work, since honestly I've no idea why it suddenly started working on the nth attempt to install the camera into my Yoics account...

    QUALITY:

The video quality is passable at best. It records at 640x480 max resolution, which is sufficient for a streaming feed, but it's nothing incredible. Video is fairly typically muddy. Sound is picked up from its internal microphone just fine, and you can hook up speakers via the jack on the underside which you can use to scare passers by using the camera's 2-way communications, if that's your bag! Also, there's a light sensor which detects when it's dark, and turns some quite-blinding LED lights on the front to light up... whatever it is you're pointing at.

    OVERALL:

It's hard to recommend this camera in its current state. It definitely has potential, but with its deficiencies, lack of proper wireless configuration that works, - and WEP encryption even if it DOES somehow work for others, I just don't think this camera is ready for the prime time. Even logging in to one's account to view the feed is a pain. You have to log in to Yoics.com, which stubbornly refuses to save your login details despite my attempts on both my Mac and PC to do so, and after that you then have to log in AGAIN to your camera. Seems like a bit too much work if you ask me, especially from an iPhone...

    3/5

On a side-note, my absolute favorite part of the product description is this:

"This camera includes 6 LEDs, which provide the camera with the ability to view images in low light conditions. It is important to use the provided power adaptor when using the camera for prolonged periods in low light conditions."

Hah! Considering the camera has no power without the power adapter under ANY circumstances, I'd say this is valuable information! Definitely gave me a good chuckle! :-)

Oh, and you should see what my dog gets up to when he doesn't know I'm spying on him! Too funny! I'm almost tempted to give this product 5 out of 5 just for the amusement it gave me walking back from the grocery store, spying on my puppy!

Lorex's new Wireless Easy Connect Network Camera allows users to remotely monitor their home or business through a secure, password protected connection that requies no networking knowledge. Simply Connect the camera into a router, run the installation CD and you are on the way to see, hear, and protect what matters to you. The LNE3003 features MAC and PC compatibility, supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera 7 Safari Browsers. Motion events trigger e-mail notifications with JPEG image attachments allowing you to see what happened. The included software enables you to view, record and playback.

(The Mossberg segment Product evaluation of Apple's IPhone)
Walter Mossberg ace technology reporter evaluates largely positively Apple's latest surprise, its IPhone. He in the course of this explains that Steven Jobs loves to surprise, bring the unexpected product to the world. Apple is riding high with Mackintosh, IPod and now IPhone. Mossberg gives us a chance to see the new highest resolution screen for a hand-held phone device. He says it was difficult at first but then in five days he mastered the virtual keyboard and was sending messages at an acceptable speed. He also explains the drawbacks of the phone including its connection with AT&T and reception in areas where that is not a prime server. Mossberg is sure of himself, articulate and quite humorless. Charlie Rose does his usual job of asking the right questions.

    (A bit flimsy)

    (wasn't what I expected)

    (Does not work with iPhone)
The battery compartment opened and refused to close after a few uses. After a while sound kept going in and out. Eventually had to purchase a new set of headphones.
the product never stated that it was a headphone that was corded, I assumed it was cordless for the price I was paying for. It works okay but just hate being attached to equipment when I need to get up, I have to take it off all the time.... For the price I paid it actually should have been a cordless headphone...
Two features drove me to purchase this headset: 1) compatibility with the iPhone; 2)the noise canceling feature.

I was very excited to test it out. Upon my first use I was disappointed to find that it did not work with my iPhone unless I jiggled the cable and held it in place. This deficiency was surprising and quite misleading considering the fact that it is blatantly claimed that the set does work with the iPhone. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought it.

The noise canceling feature works as advertised, for AMBIENT noises, which was great once I got some music flowing into the headset (on my laptop). The quality of the sound is crisp. On the other hand, if you're looking for a set that will cancel/reduce audible noise, (as I was) this might not be the product you're looking for. I'm still deciding whether to keep them. Considering the price I paid, it just seems like I should get exactly what I wanted.

A Lightweight and foldable active noise canceling headphone that eliminates 90% (up to 18dB at 200Hz) of unplesant ambient noise. It has two built-in microphones to identify and employ sound-canceling singals to effectively eliminate distracting background noise. With its 40mm neodymium magnet drivers, the Pure-Ear delivers distinctive sound quality, enable a deeper bass, better clarity and superior clear music listening experience. Power by one AA battery, the Pure-Ear impressively deliver up to 70 hours of noise cancellation and the music-by-pass function allows user to listen to music even without batteries. It comes with airplane adaptor, iPhone adaptor cable, 6.3 (1/4") adaptor, 3.5mm (1/8") stereo cable and leather carrying pouch. Ideal for all iPod, MP3, CD, DVD players, home and in-flight entertainment systems and the new iPhone. Folded size only 5.5" x 4.5" and weight only 6.63 oz.

    (Excellent iPhone Resource)

    (Lots of help)

    (Great Resource)

(iPhone 3G -- a Great General Resource from David Pogue)

    (Must have for IPhone owners)
Without a doubt, this is the manual that should come with every single iPhone sold. It's easy to read, not so technical that you can't understand it, and provides tons of useful "everyday" information that will make your life easier with your iPhone. I highly recommend this book; and I can't wait for the 3.0 update.
I found this book very helpful. Here is a phone that does a ton of things and comes with instructions for something as complicated as a pencil. My technical knowledge is just enough to get me in trouble. This is book is so well written and with a sense of humor which really helps. It is not a dull blah, blah, blah at all. I highly recommend it!
I thought I knew everything I needed to know about the little, highly intuitive iPhone 3G. But, I read this manual and it taught me many 'extra' things I didn't know at first blush. A great way to make the most of your investment.
I love the "Missing Manual" series and don't think too hard when it comes to picking a technical book if one of David Pogue's books is among the batch ... they are good, funny and most of all extremely informative,

    This book does not disappoint.

I was surprised when I opened the box to discover that this iPhone book was not the usual size of the many of his others that grace my shelves. I was surprised to open the book and find beautiful color screenshots of the iPhone along with great tips and shortcuts. It REALLY does help to use the MM series for whatever your task is (in this case: the iPhone 3G). You'll find yourself returning at times to figure stuff out along the way.

Another great and beautifully done reference.

    Thanks Mr. Pogue!

You open the box, you take out your IPhone, and then what? There's no manual, no helpful hints. You're on your own. This book gives you everything you need to get the most out of your IPhone without weeks of trial and error. The typing hints alone are worth the price! A must have.

Written byNew York Timescolumnist and Missing Manual series creator David Pogue, this first-to-market update shows readers and tire kickers everything they need to know to get the most out of their new Apple iPhone. As beautiful as the product it covers, this full-color book helps readers accomplish everything from Web browsing to watching videos.

Author David Pogue’s iPhone 2E Tips
The beauty of the new iPhone 3G is that you don’t need one. Almost all of the juicy stuff actually comes with the iPhone 2.0 software and the online App Store, both of which run perfectly well on the old iPhone as well. That, incidentally, is also the beauty ofiPhone: The Missing Manual, 2nd Edition. It covers both the old and the new iPhones, because it covers the 2.0 software, the iPhone App Store, and so on. Here are a few of my favorite tips from the book:
    David Pogue with his iPhone

1)At the top of the screen, little icons indicate how you’re connected to the Internet: an E for the vast but dog-slow AT&T Edge network, a 3G icon if you’re on the faster but limited-area AT&T third-generation network, and radiating signal bars if you’re on Wi-Fi. The tip here: The two cellular icons (E and 3G) disappear whenever you’re on Wi-Fi. That’s not a mistake. The iPhone assumes that Wi-Fi is faster and better than any cellular network, and if you’re on it, you don’t care about E or 3G (and it’s right).

2)Unfortunately, 3G is a battery hog. If you don’t see a 3G icon on your iPhone 3G’s status bar, then you’re not in a 3G hot spot, and you’re not getting any benefit from the phone’s 3G radio. By turning it off, you’ll double the length of your iPhone 3G’s battery power, from 5 hours of talk time to 10. To do so, from the Home screen, tap Settings->General->Network->Enable 3G Off. Yes, this is sort of a hassle, but if you’re anticipating a long day and you can’t risk the battery dying halfway through, it might be worth doing. After all, most 3G phones don’t even let you turn off their 3G circuitry.

3)More ways to save power: turn off more features. In Settings, you can turn off Bluetooth; Wi-Fi; GPS; "push" data; and the cellphone radio. Each saves you another bit of power.

4)When typing on the on-screen keyboard, you can save time by deliberately leaving out the apostrophe in contractions like I’m, don’t, can’t, and so on. Type im, dont, cant, and so on. The iPhone proposes I’m, don’t, or can’t, so you can just tap the Space bar to fix the word and continue.

5)To produce an accented character (likeé, ë, è, ê, and so on), keep your finger pressed on that key for 1 second. A palette of accented alternatives appears; slide onto the one you want. (Keys that sprout these alternative versions: E, Y, U, I, O, S, L, Z, C, N, ?, ', ", $, and !.)

6)Even if you’ve engaged the silencer switch on the side, the iPhone still sounds any alarm you’ve set. Good to know.

7)You probably already know that you can rearrange your Home screen, and even set up multiple Home screens (up to 9). Just hold your finger down on any one icon until they all begin to wiggle. Now you can drag them to rearrange them (even onto the Dock of four special icons at the bottom), or drag off to the right to create a new Home screen. And what if, in the process of downloading and then deleting new App store programs, you wind up with unsightly gaps on your Home screens? Here’s a quick way to consolidate them onto a smaller number of full Home screens, without gaps: tap Settings->General->Reset->Reset Home Screen Layout. If you’d put 10 programs on each of four Home screens, you wind up with only two screens, each packed with 20 icons. Any leftover blank pages are eliminated.

8)If you come to the iPhone from another, lesser GSM phone, your phone book may be stored on its little SIM card instead of in the phone itself . In that case, you don’t have to retype all of those names and numbers to bring them into your iPhone. In Settings->Contacts, the new Import SIM Contacts button can do the job for you. (The results may not be pretty. For example, some phones store all address-book data in CAPITAL LETTERS.)

9)If you’ve indulged yourself by downloading some goodies from the App Store, then you may find yourself wondering where you’re supposed to adjust their preferences. Turns out they often get stashed away in a completely different program—in Settings. That’s where Apple encourages software authors tolocate their own setting screens. For example, here’s where you can edit your screen name and password for the AIM chat program, change how many days’ worth of news you want the NY Times Reader to display, and so on.

10)Don’t type http://www or .com when entering Web addresses. Safari is smart enough to know that most Web addresses use that format—so you can leave all that stuff out, and it will supply them automatically. Instead of http://www.cnn.com, for example, just type cnn and hit Go.

11)Don’t type .net, .org, or .edu, either. Safari’s secret pop-up menu of canned URL choices can save you four keyboard-taps apiece. To see it, hold your finger down on the .com button. Then tap the common suffix you want.

12)The iPhone can now geotag the photos you take with it. Geotagging means, "embedding your latitude and longitude information into a photo when you take it." After all, every digital picture you’ve ever taken comes with its time and date invisibly embedded in its file; why not its location? So the good news is that the iPhone can geotag every photo you take. How you get to see this information, is a bit trickier. Once the photos are synced to your computer, you can view the geotag information in iPhoto (the Get Info command reveals latitude and longitude), Preview (the Inspector window shows a map), Picasa (use the Tools->Geotag menu to see the photo’s location in Google Earth). Unfortunately, the iPhone strips away the geotags whenever you send a photo by e-mail. That’s a good argument for using the free downloadable program AirMe instead of the iPhone’s built-in camera program. It avoids that geotag-stripping problem and many others.

The new iPhone 3G is here, and bestselling author David Pogue is back with a thoroughly updated edition ofiPhone: The Missing Manual. With its faster downloads, touch-screen iPod, and best-ever mobile Web browser, the new affordable iPhone is packed with possibilities. But without an objective guide like this one, you'll never unlock all it can do for you. Each custom designed page helps you accomplish specific tasks for everything from web browsing, to new apps, to watching videos.

(Grab bag of iPhone game dev)

    (Helpful, Insightful)

    (For Advice Only)

    (One good chapter)

(Good source for inspiration and advice)
In the past, I have worked on game development projects on PC, xbox360, ps2, ps3 and Wii. Like many developers these days, I'm 'dipping my toes in the water' with casual iPhone game dev.

What I liked about this book:

First, the best thing about this book, and really what makes it worthwhile, is that it's written by people that are actually making their livelihood by developing games on the iPhone. So the advice is all very concrete, practical and the examples all come from the real world.

The technical advice ranges from very general stuff, to moderately technical. Often the advice is worthwhile to casual game dev in general, but not specific to iPhone.

The chapters that did provide code samples or downloads were very useful, and the code was good, real-world examples. The chapters tended to illustrate a particular tip or trick, which could be very helpful if that was something useful to you, but might be completely useless if not. For example, if (like myself) you are hoping to write games in C/C++ (mostly) that can be released on both iPhone and desktop, then the chapter on cross platform development is extremely helpful. But if you are targeting iPhone only, it's not very relevant.

Also, the quality of the book was very good, with full color illustrations throughout.

    What I didn't like:

Calling this "Projects" is very misleading. Very few examples are 'projects', i.e. walking you through a tutorial-style project that you can recreate. If you are familiar with the "Game Programming Gems" series, then this book is much closer to that -- a collection of tips, tricks and techniques from practitioners.

Some of the advice (for example, the "Design Doc" chapter, or the "Interface Design" one) is good advice for game development, but not particularly specific for the iPhone. If you are familiar with the process of game development on another platform, a lot of this will be familiar advice.

In particular, I was disappointed not to see much discussion of the iPhone's unique input features like the accelerometers and multi-touch.

Overall, this is a good book but it has a bit of an identity crisis. Some of the articles are fairly technical, while others are appropriate for beginners (or even non-programmers "game designers"). There's a little something for everyone in here, but the flip side of that means that there will probably be a few chapters that you could live without.

I'm a first-time iPhone developer and found this book helpful. I
recommend it especially to people who are developing a game for the
first time, because that was my situation, although if I had to guess I would think it's actually even more helpful for more experienced developers.

Veteran developers explain a lot of the basics and not-so-basics of how to think about various issues like game design and optimization, but they do so via the story of their own development of their own apps. Each chapter is
about a very particular successful iPhone project.

I got lots of useful technical pointers, including code that I could actually use, but perhaps even more importantly I learned *how to think like an iphone developer*. Since I'm not in silicon valley but rather in a small town in Upstate NY with not too many kindred developers with whom to talk shop, this was invaluable!

So it's probably good for people who have already developed a few
games (there was stuff that was over my head but would probably be good for more experienced developers), but I especially recommend it to developers currently working on their first game, only because that was my situation and I found it very helpful. Going through it with a partner developer, book-club style, would also seem like a good idea, though I haven't done that or anything.

There is some practical knowledge in this book, but it is not what I was expecting when I purchased it. I ordered the book before it was released, so that is my mistake. But the title and description of the book is misleading.

This is not a book with details on a variety of games with hands-on programming examples and ideas on how to make the gameplay work well on the iPhone. It is a collection of chapters of iPhone game building advice. The advice is often excellent, and the book is a unique source for this information. But know that you will bump into phrases like "I hope I've inspired you" and "the true future of iPhone game development is up to you, dear reader". So the advice is also often cheesy, bathetic, and almost maudlin.

Imagine if you met an experienced iPhone developer that had just finished a big project. Then you asked him/her: "Have any advice for me when building an iPhone game"? That is what this book is. If you feel that would help you, then dive on in.

IMHO, this was not enough material worthy of an entire book. Some chapters are excellent, but many of them read as if they would be magazine articles. They are that general and light on details.

I have several of the Apress books, and this one is a disappointment. I finished it in 2 hours and don't feel there will many times I will pull it off the bookshelf in the future. This book should be called "iPhone Advice and Occasional Tips from Game Developers".

I was excited to have this book on the way and finally crack it open. It took a few hours of reading/skimming to realize that this is not the book you want if you're just starting to write games for the iPhone. Actually there was one good chapter on iPhone game development, the Space Hike tutorial. Unfortunately, that was just one chapter out of a whole book.
This book is not about "how you should do it" - it's more about "how other people did it". It's a good source of inspiration and advice about how to design and implement games for the iPhone and iPod Touch using whatever tools are available in the SDK (looks like it was published before 3.0 became publicly available). It's "stories from the veterans" as opposed to "lecture from a teacher". Plus, you get a whole bunch of code to look through and learn from.

It might not be for everyone, but I found it to be an enjoyable read.

iPhone games are hot! Just look at the App Store. Over 25% of apps are games, and 70% of the most popular apps are games. Surprised? Of course not! We've all filled our iPhones with games, and each of us hopes to develop the next best-selling, hottest game!

    (Is it Useful for Slideshows?)

    (IMovie '09 Missing Manual)

    (Like this a lot)

(Review of Missing Manual (iMovie '09&iDVD))

    (BREAK A LEG!!)
I have to confess I haven't yet read the book. I am thinking about purchasing it, BUT . . . what I really want to do is to create sophisticated slideshows with photographic images (still shots) I have taken. Does iMovie offer anything that the simple slideshow in iPhoto and/or Lightroom doesn't? If it doesn't, does anybody know what software for the Mac produces slide shows with transitions, looping music, differentially timed frames and so on? Appreciate any insight you can give.
Product ordered; delivered on time; and content met/exceeded expectations.. and I will buy iMovie/iDVD '10 when it comes out.
The author has done a great job both with picture and words. Love those pictorial examples. There are a lot of hidden gems in iMovie 09 that the author reveals and leads one down the path of "mission accomplished." I actually went to the section that I needed first to get a project completed, and am now going back to the beginning and reading both section, iMovie and iDvd, from the beginning.
As usual, the newest in this series is well written and documented. If you want to understand the smallest details, you need this book.
Do you want to know more about iMovie and iDVD? If you do, then this book is for you! Authors David Pogue and Aaron Miller, have done an outstanding job of writing a book that is designed to be used as the ultimate iMovie and iDVD manual.

Pogue and Miller, begin by showing you how to transfer your footage into iMovie; edit your clips; place them into a timeline; add crossfades and titles; work with your soundtracks; and, more. Next, the authors present step-by-step instructions on how to take your cinematic masterpiece on your screen to the world, by looking at how iMovie excels at exporting your work to- the Web; YouTube; an iPod or iPhone; an Apple TV; a QuickTime file on your hard drive; or, iDVD for burning. Finally, the authors cover the world's easiest-to-use DVD design and burning software.

This most excellent book explores each iMovie feature in depth; offers illustrated catalogs of the various title and transition effects; offers shortcuts and workarounds; and, unearths features that the online help doesn't even mention. More importantly, it provides a complete course in film editing and DVD design.

Apple's iMovie '09 is more accessible and comprehensive than iMovie '08--and impressive right out of the box. The one thing not in the box is a user's guide, and that's where this book comes in. You'll make the most out of the applications if you get help from the experts.iMovie '09 and iDVD: The Missing Manualexplains everything you need to know to turn raw digital footage into high quality film.

    Stabilizing Shaky Footage
By David Pogue and Aaron Miller
Not every piece of video needs fancy effects. In fact, most video is probably better without a Dream filter and Picture-in-Picture. The unadulterated stuff straight from your camera usually looks best.
In fact, if your footage needs any help at all, it’s probably in the cameraman department. Don’t take this personally. Handheld shots, the most common kind of home video, are notoriously unstable, and that’s an instant giveaway that you’re an amateur. You can have the hands of a surgeon and still end up with shaky footage. This is true even with all the newfangled image stabilization technology that comes in the latest cameras.
Don’t give up (and don’t resort to carrying a tripod everywhere). iMovie’09 can stabilize your videoafter the fact, using one of its most amazing new features.

    Video Stabilization
iMovie has powers that leave other“beginner” video-editing programs panting with envy. It’s filled with tools that have historically been found only in professional editing programs. iMovie’s stabilization feature, for example, is inherited from Apple’s $1,000 Final Cut Pro software.
It works by analyzing every single frame in a clip, recognizing the changes in both camera position (movement up, down, left, or right) and camera rotation. Once it figures that bit out, it knows how to slide and rotate your clips to iron out the shakes.
Unfortunately, this sort of analysis takes a very long time—roughly ten minutes for every minute of video (more or less depending on your Mac’s speed).
The results, however, are worth it. The stabilization feature works absolute magic on most jerky, bumpy handheld footage. It works so well, in fact, that it can look positively creepy, as though you were floating along on a magic carpet. Fortunately, there’s a slider that lets you control how much stabilizing goes on.

Four Ways to Trigger Stabilization Analysis
Before iMovie can stabilize your video, it has to perform the above-mentioned analysis, which takes a long time. Fortunately, you have a lot of control over when the program does this processing:
1)Stabilize during import. You’re offered the opportunity to perform the analysis when you bring the footage into your Mac, as described in Chapter 1.
2)Stabilize selected clips. You can analyze certain clips at any time. Select one, or a group of them, and then choose File-->Analyze for Stabilization.
3)Stabilize an entire Event. In the list, click an Event’s name and then choose File-->Analyze for Stabilization. This option is great if the Event in question is someone jumping on a trampoline during an earthquake.
4)Stabilize a clip in the Event Browser.Double-click the clip to open the Inspector panel. Click Analyze Entire Clip as shown in Figure 7-1.
5)Stabilize a clip that’s already in the storyboard.Point to the clip, and then from the gear-icon menu, choose Clip Adjustments. On the panel that appears, turn on“Smooth clip motion.” This is a great trick when you’re looking over a project in progress and discover that one particular jerky shot is ruining the flow. It can also save you a lot of time, because iMovie stabilizes only the 20 seconds of a clip that you’ve actually used—plus an additional second on either side—rather than processing the 15-minute original (see Figure 7-2).
If you later decide to lengthen the clip you stabilized (by more than a second), you’ll need to do more analyzing. The once-checked checkbox in the Inspector will require rechecking. Fortunately, iMovie analyzes only the new part you added that wasn’t already analyzed.
Then go knit a sweater while you wait for your Mac to analyze your footage.
Be prepared for a wait when you decide to analyze a clip. Depending on the speed of your computer, it can take between five and twelve minutes (or longer for older Macs) for every minute of footage stabilized. If you have a lot to analyze, let the Mac do its job overnight while you get some beauty sleep.
A stabilized clip in your project displays a checkmark in the Stabilization box, plus the Maximum Zoom slider. Turn Stabilization on and off all you like; iMovie never has to analyze a clip but once.

Bursting with new features, Apple's iMovie '09 is vastly more usable and complete than iMovie '08--amazing right out of the box. But the box doesn't include a good user's guide, so learning these applications is another matter.iMovie '09 and iDVD: The Missing Manualgets you up to speed on everything you need to turn raw digital footage into highly creative video projects.

You get crystal-clear, jargon-free explanations of iMovie's new video effects, slow&fast motion, advanced drag&drop, video stabilization, and more. Author and New York Times tech columnist David Pogue uses an objective lens to scrutinize every step of process, including how to:

  • Organize your videos just like your photos, and precisely edit with ease
  • Work on multiple iMovie projects at once and drag&drop clips among them
  • Integrate with other iLife programs to use songs, photos, and an original sound track
  • Output your creation to a blog, its own web page, or as a video podcast with iWeb
  • Understand basic film techniques to improve the quality of the video you bring to iMovie
  • From choosing and using a digital camcorder to burning the finished work onto DVDs, posting it online, or creating versions for iPod and iPhone,iMovie '09&iDVD: The Missing Manualhelps you zoom right in on the details.

    (NOT the right case)
I was so excited to get my pretty two-toned green iphone case, and couldn't wait to put it on my phone when it came! But the case they sent me is NOTHING LIKE THIS PICTURE. They sent me a "fluorescent green" case, which is all one color and it's an icky neon yellow. I am so upset and I'm trying to get them to exchange it for the one I ordered, but I have a feeling they don't even have any cases in the colors they show in the picture and that's why they sent me whatever random color that had the word green in it.
