(See the movies instead)
(original soundtracks recordings from classic horror)
(Unforgettable sounds of Horror) Reading the two reviews was helpful. The Salter/Skinner Son of Frankenstein cd is a favorite of mine. Now we need to see new symphony recordings of Karl Hajos' Werewolf of London score and Heinz Roemheld's Invisible Man music. Buster Crabbe's Flash Gordon borrowed from both of these, and fans of Universal Studios horror/suspense music know how great all the music was on that 1930s serial. You can access some great music clips at Tony LoBue's Flash Gordon web site. Do you want to hear all of that wonderful soundtrack music that Universal Studios used in their monster movies of the 1930's and 1940's? Then there are some fine recordings now available on CD. I particularly recommend the Moscow Symphony Orchestra's recording of the Monster Music of Hans J. Salter and Frank Skinner, featuring music from Son of Frankenstein, the Invisible Man Returns, and the Wolf Man, three of the finest examples of the genre. One soundtrack that does not seem to be available is from the Invisible Man, which as I recall was also used as background for the old Flash Gordon serial. That particular music tempted me to buy "Legendary Horror Films", even though there was only one track from it on the disc. Apparently, whoever made this disc simply copied the music from a recording of the film, sound effects and all. Despite the copyright warning on the label of this Spanish import, I wonder how the folks at disconforme.com managed to get the necessary approvals. In any event, it would probably be more pleasurable to put the DVD's of these movies in your player and leave the TV screen dark than to play this album. If you are a classic horror film buff, like me, you'll love this CD containing ORIGINAL soundtrack recordings from the films. Taken from isolation tracks from the masters ( that means music and sound effects only, no dialogue), this is the only CD I know of that has the music directly from the films, NOT re-recorded! Ok, some tracks definitly show their age, but fascinating to listen to none the less. The wolf man is probably the strongest and most recognizable of the tracks, but once you start listening, all those dark, creepy Saturday nights watching Creature Features will come back to you...wonderful! Growing up and watching the great Universal horror movies on late night TV, I as most kids did, became infatuated with the classic movie monsters of the 30's and 40's. Now, here in one collection are most of the opening soundtracks from these legendary horror films. The creepy swan lake suite from Dracula to the thunderous music of impending doom that started most of the Frankenstein movies. And, who could forget that classic score from The Wolfman with Lon Chaney. Most tracks are lifted directly off the movie soundtracks, so slight background sounds can be heard, but that just adds to the enjoyment. The opening to Dracula, is NOT the original from the movie, it seems the first few bars have been edited and a different version added in. All in all, this is a MUST for classic horror fans. Try puttting on this disc, and guessing what movie each track is from, it will bring back haunting memories of stormy dark nights where the monsters truly roamed our imagination... Digitally remastered original soundtrack music from a host of horror classics like Dracula, the Frankenstein series, Wolf Man, The Mummy, Hunchback Of Notre Dame, The Invisible Man, Cat People, King Kong and more. All the great composers of the genre are here as well: Franz Waxman, Max Steiner, Alfred Newman, Charles Previn and many more. customer 's review (Amateur hour...)
(Worst 2 movies I have ever seen.)
(Leave your brain at the door.)
(This was made by fans for fans!)
(Flesh Eaters to the Extreme !!!1!1!) Oh my... I love cheezy sci fi flicks, and even most Troma films, but this does not even rate as cheezy. Just bad, bad, bad... extremely amateurish acting, bad filming/lighting/sound, even the "gore" was laughable... Maybe good for a film school/acting course on what not to do. Seems totally filmed with a bargain shop video camera. Painful to watch and a Waste of money. As far as I can remember, these movies are the worst movies I have ever seen. A complete utter waste of money to purchase or rent. Really bad. 2.5 stars Did you ever see bad films, well here is your chance. The Troma company that does these films is reputated for these types of films like the toxic avenger series they produced. I gave the movies 2.5 stars cause i saw a glimpse of some so -so not too bad acting here and there. .and for the money they spend on fake blood for their special effects....hey at least they tried. These movies are watchable and i sure have a fan base. So if you enjoy Troma films you will enyoy these science fiction flicks. It has one thing that most home grown horror sci-fi movies lack a watchable plot.
The whole movie is a huge "Thanks for letting us grow up with you" tip of the hat to all of the great drive in and video store horrors that have been. There is a huge amount of "I know where they got that from!" moments where you don't feel like they were ripped off, but you know they watched the 4:30 movie, Chiller Theatre on Wed. nights, and Creature Feature on Sat. just like you. And they gave their respects to the 50's monster master F/X artist Paul Blaisdell with their creations. What can I say about "flesh eater" that history hasn't already said for me? It lives up to its name with a high body count and decent amount of gore. The dark and disturbing sci-fi film is set in the beautiful landscape of New Jersey, the last place anyone would expect for this gruesome tail to unfold. It's good to know that when aliens attack that is where they will start. This intricate plot is well developed and ends in quite an unexpected twist. I recommend this movie for anyone with a vivid imagination and good sense of humor. Fun for the whole family! Rerations < Invasion for Flesh and Blood [VHS] >

customer 's review (NOT A REAL GODZILLA MOVIE)
(Forget the title- watch the movie)
(Is it painful to Godzilla fans? Yes. But necessary? Yes.)
(Butchered.....)
(Nothing but a sad disappointment) This is NOT the Godzilla we know and love, this is a feeble Hollywood fabrication. Godzilla is invincible and canot be killed by wimpy human armaments of any kind&has laser vision eyes. Hollywood mooks think he's a fish eating, fire breathing lizard that can be killed with torpedoes&heat-seaking missiles. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. I'M PISSED!
Cool CG graphics, reminiscent of Jurassic Park... Watch the old Godzilla, or give him his real powers back! I'm sorry that all the people who love the Japanese Godzilla should dislike this movie so much. It's a good, fast-paced monster flick; nothing particularly original, but it moves right along and has great special effects. It's nothing like the Japanese Godzilla and I have a suspicion that if the producers had called it something else the reviews would have been a lot more positive. Once you treat it as just a sci fi action pic, it works quite well. I can understand the hatred for this film, giving that they took one of the most powerful monsters to ever grace the big screens and turned him into a giant bag of lizardy cowardice. Ok, the wuss factor was upped from 0-10 on Godzilla's part. That was a mistake. We all agree. Or have we also considered that after decades of films starring a grossly UN-dinosaurian lump of scales (rather a guy in a rubber suit) stomping rather un-convincingly around miniature sets, all the while reminding us of how unrealistic he is, especially as no theropod dinosaurs had plates on their back, and none stood fully erect and dragged their tail, or had dumpy fat legs and a pot belly... HAVE we considered... that it was inevitable that Godzilla be re-envisioned for the modern audience? No, he shouldn't be a big Iguana- but the design WAS, you have to admit, superior to the lumbering, jiggling mass of latex in the japanese films who for some reason couldn't stop wiggling his arms and making movements that no animal would ever find it necessary to make (who stands there and flails their arms for three minutes and roars while swaying from side to side?). The HEART of the symbolism was still intact, with him being the product of nuclear technology, but lost it's way before the first act was through. I think most of us can agree that an exploration of a more realistic godzilla WAS something that needed to be done- though we may not LIKE the outcome, someone somewhere along the line was going to pose the question: "What if Godzilla were real? How would a theropod build look in movement? If a 300 foot lizard were stomping around, why would it be immune to powerful military weaponry? If Godzilla were a real creature, what would it DO, stomp around and breath fire, or look for what we all do- food and shelter?" Size alone wont save you from missiles, nor will thick skin. That's not to say that they couldn't have at least made him more imposing and given him his regeneration abilities, which would GREATLY increase the amount of missile strikes he could sustain, even as a 'real' animal. On the bright side, the egg that hatched at the end, in the animated series, turns out to become a much stronger Godzilla who CAN use his nuclear breath (which, by the way, he DID use in the movie, just wasn't nearly as powerful OR explained as to how it functions biologically, but then if Godzilla were chasing me, I don't think I'd be asking questions ). So, in summary: Pros: **A servicable cast, better actors than most Toho films save the original 1954 Gojira. Jean reno is always a good thing. **FAR more convincing as a creature than a man in a rubber suit will ever be thanks to great special effects- some of the best CG creature work of the 90's next to Jurassic park/Dragonheart, not to mention behaviorally and locomotion for a large biped. **Has the guts to re-imagine Godzilla while at least TRYING to pay homage to the originals at times. **A memorable entrance, though I wish he had the grand walking-out-of-the-ocean entrance**
Cons: **Though he LOOKs a heck of a lot better than the Japanese suits (no offense to the classics, love them, but by better I mean more REAL and functional as a life form), this Godzilla is a pale imitation of the power of the original, who would often walk into a hail of missiles and bombs to virtually no effect- this one is killed by two rounds of missiles. **Nobody outside of the entrance scene seems remotely intimidated by Godzilla. There should be mass panic and chaos throughout the film with the military's best efforts being in vain. A little odd, a Godzilla that RUNS AWAY FROM THE ARMY. **Sort of insults Japan by ignoring Godzilla's relationship with the country for the most part (sinking a japanese fishing ship aside) and his origins FROM there (he should have landed at Tokyo first THEN maybe New York). Kudos for throwing in 'It's GOJIRA you moron', though!
Overall, a pretty good MONSTER movie. As a GODZILLA movie, it drops a load of bricks on it's own foot. BUT, if you are WILLING to ALLOW Godzilla to be re-imagined as a real animal grounded in physics (ignoring the one problem, being that we don't think a 300 foot tall biped would be structurally possible, but then 50 years ago we didn't think a 190 foot, 200 ton Dinosaur like Amphicoelias was possible either)... IF you are willing to let it be it's OWN Godzilla, it's own VERSION of it, it's actually enjoyable.
This movie was only seen because of its title and nothing else. This is a classic example of how executives can be so greedy that they would butcher the most famous monster movie just to make a quick buck. The whole time i watched this movie i just wanted the monster to bite someones head off. And it never happened. I used to like Emmerich's version of "Godzilla" when I was a kid. But now, I see the film as a big disappointment. This one is an insult to the original Japanese Godzilla. The big lizard itself is a joke. It's vulnerable, it's not intelligent, and it's . . . PREGNANT??? Who the hell thought of THAT?! It's almost as dumb as turning King Kong into a f***ing ephebophile! And I hope THAT doesn't happen, either!
What makes this film worse is the waste of good actors. While Jean Reno plays his part well, Broderick, Azaria, Pitillo and Shearer look like cardboard cut-outs. Their performances aren't three-dimensional, and they're not completely believable. But the parody of Siskel and Ebert was pretty entertaining.
What makes this film even worse is that its Americanization of Godzilla just doesn't work. Yes, I love this country very much, but the Japanese originals are far superior to this worthless remake. And even if it is a guy in a suit, it still looks realistic compared to the CGI creation. And this movie as a whole is not very entertaining. If I ever saw this film again, I would cringe while looking at the sad attempt of reimagining the big guy.
Aside from the monstrously entertaining "Independence Day," this is definitely Emmerich and Devlin's weakest film ever. As "gigantic monster reptile attacks New York" movies go, you've got to admit thatGodzilladelivers the goods, although its critical drubbing and box-office disappointment were arguably deserved. It's a shameless, uninspired crowd pleaser that's content to serve up familiar action with the advantage of really fantastic special effects, and if you expect nothing more you'll be one among millions of satisfied customers. There's really no other way to approach it--you just have to accept the fact thatIndependence Daycreators Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are unapologetic plagiarists, incapable of anything more than mindless spectacle that can play in any cinema in the world without dubbing or subtitles. The whole movie plays out like a series of highlights stolen from previous blockbusters of the 1990s; it's little more than a rehash of theJurassic Parkmovies. The derivative script is so trivial that it's unworthy of comment, apart from a few choice laughs and the casting of Michael Lerner as New York's mayor, whose name is Ebert and who closely resembles a certain well-known movie critic. Perhaps that's a clever hint that this movie's essentially critic-proof. It's stupid but it's fun, and for most audiences that's a fitting definition of mainstream Hollywood entertainment.--Jeff Shannon Rerations < Godzilla (1998) [VHS] >

customer 's review (It was BOMB In 78', and it's still a BOMB.)
(This was great in '78,&still holds up today)
(An Unofficial Sequel To "Carrie")
(Amazingly Dull, Simplistic Supernatural "Thriller")
(very good movie) Oh, please! Some of these reviewers giving this turkey 4 stars is like saying Andrew Stevens was an acting genius of his time. I saw this flop when it first came out, and I distinctly remember the crowd walking out after saying how bad it was. Time hasn't helped this DePalma mess out either, unless you're into getting in a few laughs at the dialogue, acting and especially terrible effects. Anybody who claims this as anything close to "Carrie" needs a serious MRI done, because the closest this flop is to that classic, is the actors (if you consider Amy Irving an actress) and the extra buckets of fake blood. It's also painful watching Kirk Douglas and John Cassavetes reading lines off each other, fully knowing, it's all for the paycheck. Please, if you want to view a decent DePalma flick, pick up "Dressed To Kill" of "Blowout". Both more superior than this lame duck. I remember this film well&have nothing but good things to say about it. Kirk Douglas,&Amy Irving were very good in thier portrayals, as was sexy Andrew Stevens. I love when his eyes turn that bright blue color,&watching him get angry in the film makes him even sexier. I'd like to add that John Cassavettes was perfectly cast as the bad guy here&the plot was fun to watch.
My only regret about the DVD release is the fact that the original poster ad wasn't used on the jacket. The one of the man&woman that reads... "an experience in terror&suspense". Obviously the two were supposed to have been Amy&Andrew, though the woman in the ad bore little resemblance (if any) to Amy&the man looked nothing at all like Andrew Stevens.
Another thing is I loved the scene towards the end when Andrew Stevens is spinning around that woman, it was very intense&alot of fun to watch. I will always consider this among the greatest horror films ever made&a Brian DePalma masterpiece. Check this one out. "The Fury" is another masterpiece of modern horror directed by Brian DePalma who also directed such blockbusters as "Body Double," "Dressed To Kill," and one of my personal favorites, "Carrie." Both "Carrie" and "The Fury" deal with teenagers with telekinetic powers. No one suspected Carrie White had telekinesis until it was too late. On prom night, she killed most all of her classmates and teachers and is eventually murdered by her mom. In "The Fury," our government discovers that two teenagers, Robin and Gillian, have telekinesis and want to use them as weapons. This same plot was visited again a few years later by Stephen King in "Fire Starter."
Movie legend, Kirk Douglas, is Peter Sanza, who is desperately searching for his son, Robin, who was stolen from him. His shootouts and car chases with the Federal agents is the action/thriller part of the movie. The horror part is what Robin and Gillian can do to their victims: literally tear them apart with their thoughts.
"The Fury" depicts what might have happened to Carrie White if she had survived her prom night. A government agency would have captured and imprisoned her. Then they would've ran a series of tests in order to control and exploit her powers.
"The Fury" has wonderful direction from Brian DePalma; scenes that alternate from the Mid East to Chicago, and an all star cast that includes Amy Irving ("Carrie"), John Casavetes ("Rosemary's Baby"), Charles Durning ("When A Stranger Calls"), Andrew Stevens ("The Seduction"), and Carrie Snodgrass ("Murphy's Law"). It is highly recommended for those who collect paranormal science fiction horror or, if you are like me, enjoy horror classics from the seventies.
There are spoilers throughout this review. The movie's 30 years old; I think the moratorium on spoilers has expired.
Brian DePalma has a reputation as a "style over substance" kind of director as well as an imitator of Alfred Hitchcock. This reputation is not wholly deserved; he sometimes transcends this image ("Carrie", "The Untouchables"). However, when he reverts back to full-blown Hitchcock on Acid mode, look out! That's exactly what DePalma does in "The Fury."
The story, called "convoluted" by many, is nothing of the kind! Here's the story, in its entirety: An ex-government agent (Douglas) has a teenage son (Stevens) who possesses extraordinary psychic powers. The government agency kidnaps the son and attempts (but fails) to kill the father. This all happens in the first 10 minutes, and the father spends the rest of the movie (two tedious hours) trying to find his son with the aid of a teenage girl (Irving) with psychic powers and a telepathic link to his son. In the last 10 minutes, they find his son, then both father and son die, then the girl kills the Bad Guy (Cassavetes) responsible for the kidnapping. The end.
Probably the reason so many viewers think this ridiculously simplistic story is "convoluted" is because of all the superfluous scenes we are treated to in the intervening two hours. Like:
Kirk Douglas breaking into the apartment of a bickering middle-aged couple and the little old lady who lives with them, the cutely-named "Mother Knuckles," painting his hair with white shoe polish, putting a pillow in his pants, flirting with Mother Knuckles, tying up the couple on their couch in front of the television (ham-fisted social commentary, anyone?), and then leaving, only to be immediately spotted by the Bad Guys in spite of his disguise. So why the heck was so much time spent on this ridiculous narrative detour?
Amy Irving at her new School For Teenage Psychics, twirling around her white wicker-and-flowered wallpaper bedroom, taking long walks in the park with Charles Durning, playing Frisbee with a dog (in slow motion, naturally), and making big gooey sundaes with the Mad Housewife herself, Carrie Snodgress (pay careful attention to this scene to take delight in Irving's nauseating habit of constantly digging into a bowl of toppings with her fingers, sprinkling the stuff on her sundae, licking her fingers, then digging the newly-moist fingers back into another bowl of toppings; she does this half a dozen times and makes it virtually impossible to pay any attention to the conversation, which doesn't contain any imperative dialogue, anyway). Again, what is the purpose of this long sequence, other than letting us know that for a brief while, Irving's character gets to be happy? Admittedly, you need SOME "down time" in a thriller, but two freakin' hours of it? Come on.
The superfluous scenes would be bad enough, but what makes them even worse is the fact that absolutely ESSENTIAL scenes are missing. For instance, after Stevens's character is kidnapped and taken to the compound, he apparently undergoes brainwashing techniques that turn him into a homicidal psychopath. But we aren't SHOWN his conversion; instead, to make up for this MAJOR deficiency, some obviously dubbed-in-at-a-later-date expository dialogue is played over scenes of him pole-vaulting. (???) Amazingly, even though they are specifically trying to fill story gaps, they don't say anything that actually accomplishes that purpose! We're given some gobbledygook about how he gets really upset whenever his physical prowess doesn't match his psychic powers. This is supposed to explain why he later makes a carnival ride go berserk, flinging riders 50 feet in the air, and why he turns his girlfriend into a whirling dervish!
Even when the scenes actually could serve a narrative purpose, DePalma drags them on WAY too long, then doesn't give us any pay-off. An example: We already know Irving's character is psychic when some folks from the Psychic School come to her high school to demonstrate that people's Alpha waves can actually run an electric train. Yes, I know you're all remembering the many, many times you witnessed such demonstrations at your high school. Right. Anyway, at this point anyone with an IQ over 80 who has actually ever seen a movie - any movie - knows where this scene is going. Amy Irving will get the electrodes strapped to her forehead and make the damn thing jump the tracks with the force of her Alpha-ness. What you might not be able to predict is just how excruciatingly l-o-n-g DePalma drags out the wholly inevitable denouement. It feels like HOURS as the train goes faster and faster, with a dubbed-in whining sound getting higher and higher (in case we didn't get it) and reaction shots of every single person in the room with the patented "WTF?!?" look on their faces before finally the train de-rails. Now, this scene, protracted as it was, might have actually served SOME purpose if an action had flowed directly from it, ie: the doctor from the school signing up Irving then and there. Incredibly, nothing of the sort happens! We have to wait a few scenes for Irving to tell her mother that she wants to go to a "special school" and it is only after she arrives that we know this is in fact the same school that did the train demonstration. HELLO, this is BAD storytelling, folks.
And then there's John Cassavetes. Holy cow. For those who aren't familiar with Cassavetes, he was essentially the first independent filmmaker, making his own movies on ultra-low budgets that didn't toe the studio line. The films were critically lauded but not seen by many people. Supposedly he only acted in studio pictures in order to make money to finance his own ventures, and while that may be nominally true, he DID at least seem to invest something in many of his roles, ie: his early television one-shots and "The Dirty Dozen." In "The Fury," however, the man sleep-walks through his role; at one point during a "suspenseful" chase scene in which he's in the backseat of a car, his head is clearly just lolling backwards as if it's Nap Time. You can hardly blame the guy - it's a Snidely Whiplash role with absolutely no nuance or shading, and fer crying out loud, he's blown up at the end - but the fact is that Cassavetes's zombified performance adds even more badness to the movie.
Wow, there is so much more to dislike about this movie. In the interest of wrapping things up, I'll go to bullet points:
*Every time a character outlives his or her usefulness (to the scenarist, to propel the plot along), he or she dies violently. Every. Time. Once again, bad writing.
*Right before psychics die, their eyes glow an unearthly blue and they transfer all their powers to the psychic who is cradling their head in their lap. Thank you, Brian DePalma, for this newfound knowledge.
*Cars do not, in fact, use safety glass (that spiderwebs), but rather plate glass (that shatters). This is because the latter looks so much cooler when photographed.
*You'd think it would be heaven to be married to Mr. Carlson, but no.
*When it's important to the plot that anybody who touches Amy Irving starts to bleed, they bleed. When it's important to the plot that people be allowed to touch her, they don't.
*All of the "comic relief" scenes are uniformly dire.
*Could we at least be given some hint of why the government thinks that having a teenage psychic is so important? "The Chinese don't have one, the Soviets don't have one..." maybe because they see limited military applications for making electric trains run off Alpha waves and accurately assessing that the guy behind them is looking at "three wavy lines."
Two stars instead of one, because on a technical level, the movie is competent (ie: there's some good photography, and Williams's score, while imitating Bernard Herrmann too slavishly, is not bad, if also not great). The bottom line: Not good enough to be fun, but not bad enough to be fun either. Don't waste your time. i really love this movie it's very unique from all those other 70's horror movies i've seen very good ending well i guess you can call it more of a suspense then horror but what ever it is it's a real good movie ! Brian De Palma's complicated horror story from 1978 never did come together correctly, but it still has pockets of real inspiration as only the director (Carrie,Mission: Impossible) could conceive. Andrew Stevens and Amy Irving play teens with telekinetic powers that intelligence agencies want to harness, and Kirk Douglas stands between his kids and their nefarious exploiters. The film bogs down during Douglas's guilt-ridden, booze-fueled quest to find his son, but De Palma's elaborate, sometimes operatic violence and action sequences are genuinely mesmerizing. The final scene involving just desserts for the film's villain is a big surprise.--Tom Keogh In Brian DePalma's terrifying horror/thriller, an elaborate game of mind control begins when a government agent's (Kirk Douglas) son (Andrew Stevens) is kidnapped for his psychokinetic powers. Desperate to find him, the father hires a girl (Amy Irving) with similar psychic abilities. She soon reveals that his son is a prisoner at a secret U.S. agency where he's being used for dangerous mind experiments- and programmed for elimination. Rerations < The Fury [VHS] >

customer 's review (NO TRIFFIDS)
(Not as advertised)
(Great independant film)
(No Triffids)
(What the...?) No Day of the Triffids in my set, as well. Was very disappointed as it would have been a great set. May send it back. I gave it 5 stars for Little Shop of Horrors and Graveyard Tramps. TO NOTE:Looking at all of the other reviews...all this time has passed and ,yet, no change has been made in the title Bought this title to see Triffids, but Triffids was NOT included. What a disappointment.
This film is early 80's sci-fi. It appears to be an independent film of low budget. Their is one scene early on where a cow has been killed by something unseen and when wild dogs are eating it one of them gets sucked into the cow. This is the only exciting scene, everything else is very plain. The story continues on to explain of alien DNA found on the moon was being tested in space on lab animals. The satellite falls to earth crashing in Spain. Over a years time they experiment on the alien DNA until it gets loose and starts killing of the residents of a small town deep in Spain. The movie spends most of the time on useless chatter and rarely gets into exciting dialogue. At the conclusion only a few escape the town moments before an air strike believing they are free from the alien virus and incineration, only to find out they were wrong. The alien kills a store clerk. The film ends there and its up to you to imagine the outcome. This collection does not include the movie "Day of the Triffids" despite what the title says. I sent it back. Okay, there's been a BIG mix up here. Well, maybe not so big in the grand scheme of things, but if you followed the DVD link from the imdb page for the film "Alien Predator", which stars Dennis Christopher and...other people, to this Amazon page, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS. Even though Amazon lists the details (cast, crew, etc.) as being that of the classic "Alien Predator", the actual product this page is selling is a boxed set containing 'Day of the Triffids', 'Graveyard Tramps', 'Track of the Moon Beast (featuring a man named Johnny Longbone), and the classic 'Little Shop of Horrors', NOT included in this box set, which is collectively titled "Alien Predators", is the actual FILM "Alien Predator". Buyer beware.
On that note, "Alien Predators" is a cool little b-horror movie, and it would be nice to actual see it on DVD. Although you'd laugh your way through most of it, there are actually a few scenes that are kinda' creepy. Rerations < Alien Predators [VHS] >

(Buffy The Beginning)
(Does Not Seem Right???)
(horrid)
(AWFUL AWFUL START) Even after years of this show ending, it still holds up, and this show has Great Writers, Wonderful Seasons of Episodes and it is so much fun to watch it all again with someone who hasn't seen it yet. Buffy and the gang is great to watch and I love how the story unfolds from one episodes to another, as if we are growing with the characters. As oppose some tv shows to where the story begins and ends in an episode and then it starts over next episodes, it doesn't evolve like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and that is the big part of the reason it works so great, plus the Writers who has done the wonderful job of dialogues and adventure and humor. Everyone should see this show! Pleasantly surprised by the first season after seeing the movie I didn't think the show would be too deep. And if this show was given to anyone other than Joss Whedon I'm sure it would have been a complete train wreck.
Buffy moves to Sunnydale with her mom Joyce after being kicked out of school in Los Angeles. She immediately meets her new watcher, Rupert Giles and Angel, hunky vampire with a soul. With their help she starts battling demons and vamps in Sunnydale. And you thought Suburbia was safe!
The villain of the first season is The Master, one of the oldest living vampires in the world. The stories are well structured with sharp, funny dialogue and each character really stands out on their own. It's fun to see a female action star especially one that has time to be a cheerleader too. A must see for vamp lovers everywhere.
Did Amazon make a mistake with the price of 31.00 on this? It is the shortest of all the seasons and the others are going for 19.00. Who wants to watch a show that has been canceled twice? a show that has terrible acting and scripts that are just plain laughable. buffy failed at being anything more than a waste. this is the first season that led to its utter demise and cancellation on 2 occasions. the show just wasnt good. the acting was bad and the scripts utter nonsense. and the show even gets worse as time went on. this is one of the worst Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) looks like your typical perky high-schooler, and like most, she has her secret fears and anxieties. However, while most teens are worrying about their next date, their next zit, or their next term paper, Buffy's angsting over the next vampire she has to slay. See, Buffy, a young woman with superhuman strength, is the "chosen one," and she must help rid the world of evil, namely by staking demons. The exceptional first season ofBuffy the Vampire Slayerintroduces us to the treacherous world of Sunnydale High School (where Buffy moved after torching her previous high school's gym). The characters there include "watcher" Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) and the original "Scooby Gang" members--friendly geek Xander (Nicholas Brendon), computer whiz Willow (Alyson Hannigan), and snobbish popular girl Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter)--who aid Buffy in her quest. Those used to the darker tone thatBuffytook in its later seasons will be surprised by the lighter feeling these first 12 episodes have--it's kind of likeBuffy 90210as the cast grapples with regular teen problems in addition to saving the world from demonic darkness. Fans of the show will enjoy the crisp writing, the phenomenal chemistry of the cast (already well-established within the first few episodes), and the introduction to characters that would stay for many seasons, including moody vampire Angel (David Boreanaz). Through it all, Gellar carries the series with amazing confidence, whether conveying the despair of high school or dispatching various demons--she's one of TV's most distinctive and strongest heroines.--Mark Englehart Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 02/10/2009 Rerations < Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete First Season (Slim Set) >

(X-Files Redux)
(Great show.)
(DVD/Blu Ray details)
(A Unique and Interesting Show) I love the series, but I find out the dvd version has spanish subtitles but the blu-ray version don't have it, must be a joke, having all that space, and missing that!!!!!!! Yes, Fringe rips off X-Files, but, you know the old saying, everyone steals from everyone in hollywood (or music, or literature, or....)
Fringe is like X-Files 2 but with better acting. Characters don't get into five minute monologues trying to explain their quest for the truth. Their might be a few bad acting moments but this series really shines compared to most of the crap that is out there. The effects are well done and they've laid the ground work for some fun with the overall back story.
I find it actually more enjoyable that they have not tried to introduce sexual tension between the characters. The characters are memorable, and this show is really worth your time.
Very much looking forward to watching it on Blu-Ray in very high quality audio/video and without the commercial interruptions. Great show like everything with J.J. Abrams, you just want to say d*** you for getting me addicted to another show. It's about as bad as Joss Wheldon There have already been a great deal of reviews about the show so I won't say much in regards to the show itself. It got off to a rocky start and the first few episodes just didn't click with me. However, by mid-season this show started firing on all cylinders. The various plot lines from each episode that seemed to be self-contained stories, started to congeal into an overall mythology which we'll follow throughout the rest of the show. I give this show my highest recommendation!
One quick side note. FOX decided to run a new "remote-free TV" initiative with Dollhouse and Fringe. This meant that the commercial times were cut in half, effectively adding about 6 minutes of air time for each show. This adds up to an extra 120 minutes of airtime throughout the season, so the 20 episodes of season 1 are really more like 22 1/2 if compared to other shows on TV. I think we're really getting bang for our buck in this reasonably priced set.
The DVD and Blu-Ray are due to be released on September 8th.
Now for the details of what's included in this set:
DVD Special Features Include:
* Evolution: The Genesis of Fringe featurette - The creators of the show discuss how the series unfolded and the qualities that make it so unique * Behind the Real Science of Fringe featurette - From teleportation to re-animation, Fringe incorporates recent discoveries in science. Consulting experts and scientists who are the authorities in their field address the areas of science which are the inspiration for the show. * A Massive Undertaking: The Making of Fringe (on select episodes) - An in-depth exploration of how select episodes came to be made: from the frozen far reaches of shooting the pilot in Toronto, to the weekly challenges of bringing episodes to air * The Casting of Fringe - The story, as told by producers and cast, of how Anna Torv, Joshua Jackson, John Noble and others came to be cast in the series. * Fringe Visual Effects featurette - Goes deep into the creation of the shared dream state with some of the biggest VFX shots of the show. * Dissected Files: Unaired Scenes * Unusual Side Effects: Gag Reel * Deciphering the Scene * Roberto Orci Production Diary * Gene the Cow montage * Three Full-Length Commentaries from writers/producers, including J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtman, J.R. Orci, David Goodman, Bryan Burk, Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner
Additional Blu-Ray Bonus Features:
* Fringe Pattern Analysis - Take a closer look at 6 select scenes from Season 1 with experts who dissect each scene with notes, photos, and diagrams. * BD-Live enabled features include Media Center, My Commentary, and commentary on Season 1 finale episode. Although I have not yet had the opportunity to see the actual Blu-Ray release of this title, I have seen every episode of the show and will definitely be purchasing this release. This show has captured my interest in a year of mediocre and downright ridiculous television. Although there are parts that are somewhat graphic, and I am not a fan of that, the twists and turns have kept me on the edge of my seat throughout every episode. Anna Torv and Joshua Jackson lead a group of wonderful actors who seemed to only get better as the show progressed. Many of the scientific experiments and diabolical plots seem almost frighteningly possible and cause the viewer to wonder what may be happening in our own world, away from the prying eyes of the general public. This show gets five stars from me because it kept my interest all season and has me eagerly awaiting the next one, no small feat for any television show in our house. (Enjoyable, even if it's not groundbreaking)
(I Am Legend)
(Very Pleased)
(What If You Are the Only Person Left on Earth?) I just recently saw this film (in HD for the first time, having been too young to see the story in other incarnations and not a sci-fi fan in general, so without ever having read the original work it's (rather loosely, I gather) based on.
Maybe it was simply my state of mind when I sat down to watch, but rarely have I felt so despondent after seeing a movie. It wasn't the typical "gotcha" of a horror film, or the vampire-like bad guys that grossed me out, but the complete and utter bleakness of the tale.
There is a scene--and it's a small moment, early in the film, so I don't think I'm giving anything away--where a woman tries to give up her child to a total stranger, in order to, she hopes, save him. A moment that has been done in countless films, and could have been truly hackneyed, but was portrayed so poignantly and with such straight-forward emotion, it made me want to wake up my own son just to hug him tightly. I absolutely felt and believed the utter hopelessness that would bring on such an act.
Not to give anything away, but there is a later scene of loss so gut-wrenching (involving Will Smith's character's only companion, the dog) that I literally couldn't watch, even though I'm a grown woman who knows it's just a movie. (I literally put my hands in front of my eyes and said to my husband, "I don't like this movie" over and over. And I'm not normally the squeamish type.)
And, unbelievably, the story only gets grimmer from there.
This is a movie that kept me up for hours after watching it with nightmare-ish thoughts and a terrible overall tenseness. I had to keep reminding myself that things really were OK. And, no, I wasn't worried vampire-like creatures had overtaken the Earth ... It was just the film's pervading sense of desperation and bleakness that disturbed and, not to be pun-ny, "infected" me after seeing "I Am Legend."
In a way, that is a testament to Will Smith as an actor and his ability to carry and characterize a film. (He was good at it here, no question.) But, no matter how strong the performance, I ended up wishing I'd missed this one, just for own peace of mind. Good movie that is part 'Castaway', part '28 Days Later'. Will Smith does a very good job, but at some point I feel like I'd seen it all before. I'm not a huge fan of remakes, nor am I a fan of Will Smith, but I wanted to like this and went into viewing this movie with an open mind. First problem with this movie is Will Smith, he can not carry a movie by himself. If you're a fan of his, you'll probably love it, but not being a fan of his, I have to say he seriously lacks the chops to pull this off. Second massive issue is the horrendously awful CGI. The wide shots of the city look fine, but the lions in the beginning are just unbearably bad, and then when they finally show the vampires, that was just the final nail in the coffin for me. No pun intended. They just looked horrid, very poorly done. I watched both endings, and they were both very bland, the unrated theatrical version being the worst of the two. And while I have to say that the movie is very much watchable and not the worst thing to ever grace the silver screen, it needed a lot of improvement and a new lead actor to make it a worthwhile film. Great movie. I bought it used and was leary of that. The movie came exactly as described, used but in new condition. It was exactly that. Shipping was fast and they kept me informed of all info that was necessary. This was a very positive experience and I will do it again many times in the future. Imagine going everywhere you used to go to, and never encounter another living human. Robert Neville does. He ends up talking to statues, and listening to pre-recorded news clips to remember what humans sound like. He broadcasts from a radio to see if there are any other humans who survived the killer virus. For a time, his only companion is his dog.
All this time, Neville has dreams at night that remind him how an out-of-control virus ended wiping out nearly the entire human race, and turning the remainder of them into nonhuman-like predators. He locks himself up in his home in New York City every night, fearing these predators.
Virologist Neville knows that he is immune from the virus, and is trying to make a vaccine that could change these predators back into humans. Will he succeed? Will he meet any other humans? Or is he alone forever?
I have not read the book on which this movie is partly based. As a movie, it is chilling and suspenseful.
Will Smith stars in the third adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic science-fiction novel about a lone human survivor in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by vampires. This new version somewhat alters Matheson's central hook, i.e., the startling idea that an ordinary man, Robert Neville, spends his days roaming a desolated city and his nights in a house sealed off from longtime neighbors who have become bloodsucking fiends. In the new film, Smith's Neville is a military scientist charged with finding a cure for a virus that turns people into crazed, hairless, flesh-eating zombies. Failing to complete his work in time--and after enduring a personal tragedy--Neville finds himself alone in Manhattan, his natural immunity to the virus keeping him alive. With an expressive German shepherd his only companion, Neville is a hunter-gatherer in sunlight, hiding from the mutants at night in his Washington Square town house and methodically conducting experiments in his ceaseless quest to conquer the disease. The film's first half almost suggests thatI Am Legendcould be one of the finest movies of 2007. Director Francis Lawrence's extraordinary, computer-generated images of a decaying New York City reveal weeds growing through the cracks of familiar streets that are also overrun by deer and prowled by lions. It's impossible not to be fascinated by such a realistically altered cityscape, reverting to a natural environment, through which Smith moves with a weirdly enviable freedom, offset by his wariness over whatever is lurking in the dark of bank vaults and parking garages. Lawrence and screenwriters Mark Protosevich and Akiva Goldsman wisely build suspense by withholding images of the monsters until a peak scene of horror well into the story. It must be said, however, that the computer-enhanced creatures don't look half as interesting as they might have had the filmmakers adhered more to Matheson's vampire-nightmare vision.I Am Legendis ultimately noteworthy for Smith's remarkable performance as a man so lonely he talks to mannequins in the shops he frequents. The film's latter half goes too far in portraying Smith's Neville as a pitiable man with a messianic mission, but this lapse into bathos does nothing to take away from the visual and dramatic accomplishments of its first hour.--Tom Keogh Movie DVD Rerations < I Am Legend (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition with Digital Copy) >

(Another great read!)
(I Read This)
(14 and Pretty Girls) I'm a big fan of Ellison's, and of her three offerings, 14 creeped me out deliciously. While the plot is wonderful, what makes Ellison's stories so special is the level of intimacy (good and creepy) the reader is able to achieve with her characters. By the time you have finished 14, Taylor, the main character, will feel like a close friend.
And you would want her ON your side.
I'd recommend 14 to anyone, but reading All The Pretty Girls first would be helpful. 14 stands on its on just fine, but since there is a trilogy, I'd recommend reading all three in order.
Prepare to be scared. I remember enjoying All the Pretty Girls - the first in the Taylor Jackson series, but it's been awhile. However it will not be awhile before I read Judas Kiss, the third in the series. 14 was just that good. Taylor is now engaged and dealing with her wedding coming up but also with this Snow White Killer case. More insight is given into her fiancee, her father and her co-workers. I really enjoyed her co-workers, their banter and how well they worked together. Romance figures into this but I would say it is suspense first and foremost since the couple is already involved. Taylor continues to grow as a person and as a detective and I look forward to seeing how well she does in Judas Kiss. If you enjoy suspense and continuing series, I fully recommend getting started with this series. You won't regret it. J.T.'s done it again! This is even more intense and well done than ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS. I love Taylor Jackson! She's a real woman with a real job that she obviously loves and is good at. The reader just can tell that Ellison loves her characters and tries to make the reader love them too. She's so totally human and real. Not a super hero, just a woman who's good at what she does. A great love story woven in adds to the joy. I dare you to put it down! Wow,,,thrilling,,cliff hanger,,awsome..Ya gotta read this.. I have read all J.T.Ellisons books and can't wait for more. This is the first time I have read anything by J.T. Ellison. Enjoyed them very much. Would definately recommend to others to read. Ten victims, each with pale skin and long dark hair. All have been slashed across the throat, the same red lipstick smeared across their lips.In the mid-1980s the Snow White Killer terrorized the streets of Nashville, Tennessee. Then suddenly the murders stopped. A letter from the killer to the police stated that his work was done. Now four more bodies are found, marked with his fatal signature. The residents of Nashville fear a madman has returned, decades later, to finish his sick fairy tale. Homicide Lieutenant Taylor Jackson believes the killings are the work of a copycat killer who's even more terrifying. For this monster is meticulously honing his craft as he mimics famous serial murders

(Gas passing at its Best!)
(Doesn't hit the mark as a "thriller"......)
(Read and Shiver)
(A Riveting Medical Thriller!) What a masterful plot! Dr. Joe Neuschatz has launched his writing career with an ingenious plot worthy of the best fiction writers.
The medical practice of Anesthesiology is often described as a thousand hours of boredom punctuated by five minutes of stark terror. Certainly that would fit this story, but the "stark terror" would take a very different turn.
Dr. Neuschatz's understanding of medicine and the accurate descriptions by a practicing physician add authenticity producing a very convincing element of believability. He quickly lets us see the five minutes of stark terror and then begins the forensic process gradually bringing in other considerations, yet skillfully holding off the ultimate twist to the very end. In the process he provides insight into the realities of professional medical liability, commonly called "medical malpractice," as it is "practiced" on physicians, hospitals, and insurance companies. The pace of the story seldom lags.
The reader may be prepared to criticize the occasional awkward phrase or style unless he or she understands that English is Dr. Neuschatz's FOURTH language. How many of us have that struggle? Furthermore, the occasional unusual word probably should be in the dictionary if it isn't already. These refreshing differences will likely not be in the "professionally edited" next version.
I found this book a very thought-provoking interesting read from the medical standpoint as well as from the conceptual standpoint. You will never think of surgery in the same way again, either as a patient or as a physician.
Oh, yes. The cause of death? Even I, as a critical physician, had not counted on this one!
Don't fail to get this book. Fiction? Non-fiction? You, the reader, will have to decide. You had also better prepare. The results may very well affect you one way or another.
Paul Elliott I think TerrO.R was a great medical thriller. I am a Medical Technologist and have experience in both a doctor's office and a hospital so I could relate to all the stuff that goes on in the book with the docs. Reading this book made me think that this kind of thing could really happen. That's what makes the book so good. It was a great plot. I would never have thought of that. I also really learned a lot about the gas passing world I didn't know before. Thinking about all the malpractice suits makes me wonder if being a gas passer would be worth it though. The docs work really hard and it is a stressful job. It's sad to hear about lawsuits with them. Anyway, I wish the best tothe author, Joe, with this book and I hope he decides to write more. I will surely read them and recommend them to others. Lisa Bateman MT(ASCP) OK the book would have been better if someone had edited it properly. I got so annoyed with small errors in spelling, word use, vocabulary errors, verb tense, etc. Sometimes I couldn't get past it. The dialog is stilted and reads more like a script for a TV show rather than a piece of literature. Anyway, the story was about young males having tattoos removed who died during anesthesia - usually from PVCs deteriorating into V-fib -- and the patients are unrevivable. An investigation ensues and a group of anesthesiologists starts researching and examining these deaths by following the money and by trying to get patient histories. The answer: can't reveal the spoiler but let's say it was anticlimactic (look at the title). There were a lot of medical details in the book that I enjoyed because I'm an ex OR nurse, however, I kept waiting for some "thriller" but there wasn't any. Each time there would be a new case or Phil would meet a new person I'd think, "OK now we're going to be introduced to the bad guy." Anyway - it was OK. Recommend: borrow, don't buy. TERRO.R. is something you need to learn about. Place it near the top of your reading list! Read it and shiver, but read it now!
Traditionally we have been taught to classify "going under the knife" as major surgery or minor surgery. From the patient's point of view, all surgery is major. From the anesthesiologist's point of view, all anesthesia is major. The person who can keep a person experiencing surgery alive is the anesthesiologist. While most people can remember who their surgeons were twenty years ago, few notice who their their anesthesiologists are. These dedicated, highly skilled physicians with the ability to make split-second decisions, maintain airways in challenging circumstances, and secure intravenous lines without fail, spend their work days and nights alternating between putting out fires and standing around watching surgeons do their work. Anesthesiologists, who call themselves "gas passers," are on the front line of health caregivers.
Anyone seriously interested in the practice of medicine realizes that the top priority is maintaining an airway - keeping an opening that will allow uninterrupted breathing. While it may appear that an anesthesiologist's main priority is to "put people to sleep" to make surgery possible, his (or her) main goal is to make sure that his patients are able to breathe while he anesthetizes them. One of the most interesting aspects of TERRO.R. is the use of details about securing airways. In layman's terms he explains precisely how to pass a tube between the vocal cords and check to be sure that the tube is appropriately placed. With skilled explanations, Dr. NoShots leads his readers to see through his observant eyes and to feel with his educated fingers. He works the experience of endotracheal intubation into the events of the novel.
The doctor in the novel, who must be like our own Dr. Joe Neuschatz, once saved a man's life and knocked out a bad tooth during the intubation process. The patient's family emitted threats of lawsuits over the missing tooth. The reader of this book will wonder why anyone goes into medicine as a physician or as a nurse; yet I know the lure of the medical profession - the desire and the call to help sick people and to fix things that people need fixing. The doctor in the novel seems to be determined to practice medicine as long as he can no matter how many problems he faces.
Don't be put off by a slight language problem. Not a native speaker, sometimes the good doctor slips into charming verb tenses that speak of conventions from other languages. Other grammatical gaffes are laughable. For example, his characters enjoy a "buffer" breakfast. (They are eating a "buffet" meal.) "Lead" is used when "led" is needed. "Had wrote" is used for "had written." The problem interferes with my reading pleasure because it jolts me out of the mood. Part of the pleasure of reading a novel is to suspend reality for a few moments in order to enter the fictional world of the characters. When any author is struggling to write in English, there's a need for help. Before he publishes his next book, I urge him to employ a grammar cop. Despite his struggles with our language because he became facile in three other languages before he learned English, he is still able to use clever nuances and provide amusing turns of phrase. This book has a message too large to let a little problem with English usage prevent reading.
The book has shades of Robin Cook with its medical-legal suspense. Dr. NoShots explains medical procedures so that intelligent readers without the benefit of medical backgrounds can learn valuable information about patient care. He kicks open the door of the operating room. Neuschatz does not belabor his explanations or dumb down the information until he insults his readers. He does not layer his information to create a tome of repeated explanations. Instead he carefully selects what he includes. He builds suspense and provides a unique plot. The subject of this novel is related to what is going on in the world NOW.
Since the book is a mystery, the emphasis is not on character development; however the author thoroughly develops the main character so that we enter his mind and enjoy seeing what he thinks. Dr. Newman applies his resources, including a brilliant mind trained in logical processes, to solve the mystery.
Dr. NoShots is a naturally funny person. His humor pops up occasionally but not so often that he belittles the patients in the story.
The dialogue is portrayed realistically. The voices of the leading character and the people with whom he interacts provide echoes of conversations I heard when I worked as a hospital nurse.
I highly recommend TERRO.R. to anyone who works in a hospital, who will ever be a patient, or who has a family member requiring medical care. I recommend this book to anyone who has heard about terror in the United States. Read this book now!
As a retired OR nurse with 34 years of experience I can say that the author portrays the operating room environment in a totally realistic and feasable manner. I respectfully disagree with other reviewers stating that the dialogue wasn't believeable. One has only to work in an OR for as long as I have to know that, in fact, the exchange of words between the characters are oh so credible.
The plot to this book just blew me away. All I could think was OMG could this really happen?? Suffice it to say when I thought about it for some time I came to the horrifying conclusion that indeed it could potentially happen, especially in this time of political terrorism.
Hopefully Dr. Neuschatz will continue to write many more of these "page turner" novels to excite those of us in the medical profession.
Good Luck, Dr Joe. Unexplainable death under anesthesia occurs almost daily in American Operating Rooms. TERRO.R. is a contemporary maze of intrigue and frightful medical investigative discoveries in such cases of cardiac arrests on the O.R. table. Hopefully, this timely novel is fiction... (Junk, don't buy it !)
(Just keep going....)
(Err...) THIS IS A FUN GAME IF YOU LIKE SPLINTER CELL AND SNAKING AROUND AND LOVE TO KILL VAMPIRES THEN THIS IS THE GAME FOR YOU A MUST PLAY. I would like to lead things off by saying this game is CHALLENGING. At times, almost to a fault. I think this is where people get irritated with this game and walk away. Hell, the "tutorial stage" was harder than some games' last stages. This is the number one thing to keep in mind........expect to get frustrated. In fact I rarely find myself taking frequent breaks from games, but Between some of the replicated stages and the shear fact that the vampires are NOT easy to sneak by, I had to to retain my sanity.
Now for the rest of the game. It's fun. Nothing to blow your mind away, but a fun game provided to like a challenge. Think of it as Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell with very little room for error in the stealth aspect. You MUST not allow yourself to be seen. It's not like you can be seen, run and hide, be forgotten about and try again. You get seen in this game, you are forgotten only AFTER you're eaten.
Graphics are decent, nothing to write home about, but nothing too horrible. There are times where I wish they would have put a little more work in to it, but on the whole about three stars. The voice acting SUCKS!!!!! I don't know who they got for it, but it sounds like a junior high play in delivery. Controls are fair, nothing tremendously annoying and most are very natural although I have found myself occasionally running when I shouldn't have.
In short, this a solid 3 star game. Nothing that really comes out and grabs you.....whether good or bad. The few things that DO stand out GOOD compensate for the few things that stand out BAD. I wouldn't say it is a terrifying game, but the fact that you can't get complacent with movement does get your nerves on edge and when you get nabbed I know I still jump every now and then. A great idea for a game that was not treated how it deserved. I would definitely wait until it comes down in price to buy and even then I strongly recommend anyone to rent before buying it. It will NOT be for everyone. I bought this game for $10 in the clearance bin at a store yesterday, well there is a reason it is in a clearance bin for $10. It is JUNK! Enough said. Didn't really get much fun out of this game, based on 3 hours into it, there is still no "game" to play. There are cutscenes after cutscenes (in game graphix, no video), you spend the majority of the time you do get to use your character sneaking from point "a" to "b", and maybe you get to kill a vampire on the way. And the vampires? One hit your dead. One hit throws you into the air (there has been no counter or dodge as far as I can tell) the second hit finishes you off. 3 hours and I think I've come across 5 vampires. Very very weak game. Just save your cash and look for something else. The above review was surely penned by an Artoon or Ignition employee. This game is as bad a current generation game as there is (Metacritic will back me up here). This is a substandard product and should not be purchased by anybody for reasons too numerous to expand upon here. If I could assign half stars I would. Lift your game Artoon. Altered Species is an intense game of stealth, survival and all out skill that takes place during a cold, wet night in a suburban west coast city in the US. Each year, millions of people from all corners of the world merely disappear without a trace. The existence of Nightwalkers - vampires who stalk to hunt living humans under the cover of darkness - has been kept secret since antiquity. The millions who fell prey to their hunger have been treated as missing persons; questions raised as to the reasons of their disappearance have remained unanswered. It has taken humans nearly a century to comprehend the true nature of these Nightwalkers. Considering the Nightwalkers' lack of restraint in controlling their violent impulses and the magnitude of the damage they're likely to inflict, it's clear that the passive protections humans have relied on in the past will not hold up for much longer. The American Information Bureau (AIB), an elite task force, has been called to arms as a defensive first-strike. Their covert mission is to annihilate the bloodthirsty Nightwalkers; their mantra is "Fang for fang." Rain, which muzzles the keen senses of the Nightwalkers, has begun to fall, signaling the beginning of battles humans cannot afford to lose. Rerations < Vampire Rain: Altered Species >

(Over the top and not in a good way....)
(Funny)
(Great werewolf movie.)
(Don't take it serious and you won't be disappointed) Big Bad Wolf is one of the better werewolf films to come out in the past few years, having a halfway decent plot. Its not a wimpy "Howling 3" werewolf either. The movie starts off as a standard "Stupid-Teenagers-Stumble-Upon-Werewolf's-Lair" story, then it turns into a bloody cat and mouse game between the wolf and a couple of the teen survivors.
Be warned, this film contains some really graphic violence. So steer clear if you like PG-13 flavored films. I usually rave about crappy movies in my reviews, but this one disturbed me more than most others. Not because of the violence, which was as over the top as one might expect, but because of the implication that sexual violence against women is somehow humorous. Unlike other horror movies with a high [...] and body count, the writer of this movie (Lance W. Dreesen) never misses an opportunity to completely degrade and dehumanize the female characters. A disturbing, repeated theme is how sexual violence perpetrated against women is mocked by a "joke" from the werewolf character. For instance, one of the throwaway sorority girls in the opening sequence is revealed to be a virgin; this seemingly unnecessary plot thread is brought to fruition after she is raped by the werewolf before her throat is ripped out during the rape. After this despicable act, the werewolf taunts her boyfriend about the rape, remarking, "she ain't a virgin anymore!" Another example: the lead female character, Sam, is revealed to be in love with the lead male character Derek. This seemingly innocent plot thread is exploited when she is forced to perform oral sex on Derek's evil stepdad. Of course, evil stepdad tells Derek all about it and remarks, "you ain't tapped that yet?"
Don't let my description of these acts of sexual violence make you think that the acts are graphically depicted. For the most part, the sex is implied rather than revealed, but the characters discuss sex in a graphic way. I suppose it's all meant to reveal the main point of the movie, namely answering the question: "what would happen if an evil s.o.b. was a werewolf?" This movie certainly answers that question again and again, probably well beyond most viewers' willingness to watch it all.
In summation, there's so much ugliness in this movie that it's hard to find a bright spot. The concept of a talking, taunting werewolf is interesting, but I would have liked to see it utilized in a manner different from that described above. Kimberly J. Brown is really excellent as Sam and Trevor Duke does a good job as wimpy Derek (thus the two star rating, the kids tried). Richard Tyson does his best Jack Nicholson impersonation as Mitchell Toblat ("Talbot" spelled backwards), which really isn't much of a complement. I really hope that "Big, Bad Wolf" is the first and last movie made with this cast of characters. I dread seeing what writer Lance W. Dreesen could come up with to try to top the sexual violence and hatred present in this movie.
Dont judge a book buy its cover...lol...This is the funniest werewolf movie i have ever saw, beleiving thats what they were trying to do..If your thinking about buying it, i did...If you want a good laugh... The thing I liked the most about this movie is that it has a werewolf that talks. It was a first in all the werewolf movies I've seen.It has equal parts humor and suspense that is missing in many horror movies.Too many movies rely on too much gore and not enough plot.Just because a movie is direct to dvd doesn't mean it's bad.
After much waited anticipation and searching far and wide at video stores, I finally ordered the dvd. Because I had read several reviews on this site and others that were mostly positive I was expecting, finally, a really great werewolf movie to add to my collection...but was HIGHLY disappointed! Of course when I heard that the "werewolf talked" and made sarcastic "freddy kruger" comments that this wouldn't be another Ginger Snaps or American Werewolf in London. But I did expect it to at least be scary in between the punch lines...Cursed was scarier, lol! I actually liked Cursed BETTER if you really want to put it into perspective. At least the graphics were better in Cursed, BBW looked like a man in a bear costume-as I DID read in one smart persons review! Whooa, scary! Very low budget. But, if you have insomnia on sat night and nothing else to watch on tv and you need a good laugh, then what the heck. A wild college party in a remote cabin will go horribly wrong when Derek Cowley and his friends find themselves terrorized by a blood thirsty werewolf. While fighting for his life Derek will discover a shocking and horrifying secret about the monster he must kill to survive. Featuring a clever cunning and sadistically funny breed of werewolf unlike you've ever seen Big Bad Wolf is one sexy and terrifying horror film.System Requirements:Running time: 96 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: HORROR Rating: R UPC: 025195007986 Manufacturer No: 68100966 Rerations < Big Bad Wolf >

(Worst war game ever)
(Action Packed Survival Horror)
(PS2 shooter, Period.)
(Surprised, not SHELLSHOCKED) If you want a short zombie shooter game this ones for you. It is fun but short and limited. All three suffer from the same basic problems though with wretchedly inaccurate controls, terrible graphics and level design as brain dead as the artificial intelligence. I can understand how the obviously low budget would limit the graphics, but there's no excuse for the rest. Because the game knows it's rubbish at rendering jungles as much as possible is actually set in different locales. This adds what would have been a welcome air of unpredictability in another, better, game but here it's just a master class in bad set pieces. The multiple sieges are probably the worst as the endless stream of enemies run like doomed clockwork soldiers to their predestined firing spots. Incredibly for a first person shooter in this day and age there is no multiplayer mode, although given the quality of the rest of the game it was probably a mercy killing. As you'll probably by now be expecting the game is also riddled with bugs, with glitchy graphics and AI. Please avoid it all costs. I just hope Rebellion sort themselves, and their budgets out for Sega's Aliens Vs. Predator and Battlefront III. This game is intense! If you think you can hide and wait it out...think again! This is the most action packed survival horror game I've ever played. At times, it seems like mission impossible but if you stick with it and are quick, you will have a great time surviving this game. It is in first person mode but killing everything in sight is not always the answer. window 98 game, maybe...this game on PS3, huh? Nonsense!! I really wonder what possibly can// why these developers makes this out of date FPS game. At a glance, seems like decent military shooter..In fact, frustrating Zombie game. I got this about a week ago. Have played it for 10 hours or so. Although it has some interesting features, and is a one player game, which can be a relief from the rough and tumble online only games, SHELLSHOCK 2 can be rather difficult to get into. It is actually a sort of chapter by chapter game, going from slow to the point of distraction to "what the hey was that?" It certainly is not in the category of the newest games on the market, and is more in a reminder of earlier games that taught you how to play the newer games. I still plan to finish it and try for the hardest level to compare it to the online games in degrees of difficulty and to see how it comes out as far as a storyline is concerned. Keep in mind, I am relatively new to gaming, age 65, and ENDWAR is still kicking my booty, but I think serious gamers should probably look elsewhere for purchases. I do love the World at War series, this is NOT that quality. ShellShock 2: Blood Trails, on course for war torn Vietnam, a plane carrying a top-secret cargo known only as Whiteknight is lost over the uncharted jungles of Cambodia. The special ops squad sent in to retrieve it disappear wtihout trace. Until, a month later, one of them walks out. Something in the darkness has driven him insane. Something from the darkness has followed him out.
ShellShock 2 is a violent, first-person, survival horror game set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War. Gameplay centers on the use of psychological horror and fear, relying on the power of suggestion, mood, tension and foreshadowing, implying the notion of danger, potential danger, imminent danger, and horrifying acts that have or are implied to have occurred, or will come to pass.
