customer 's review (These Guys Are Real 'Head Cases')
(I love Tommy)
(They're Superheroes From Their Heads...To Their Necks!!!) This turned out to be a lot more of a comedy than a horror film. Seeing shrunken heads flying around was pretty unique and cool-looking but a lot more funny than scary. That's okay; I enjoyed it as a comedy.
There really wasn't much to this Grade B-horror flick expect a lot of voodoo nonsense, which was taken quite seriously in here. What a croc! Whatever, it's still fun to watch. and it's always satisfying to see a bunch of punks get what's coming to them as our headless heroes do to them n here, seeking revenge on those responsible for their odd condition.
Talk about an original story! Fun stuff and I just wish someone would put this out on a Region 1 DVD. We'll all have shrunken heads by the time this ever comes out on disc! I'm not as good as Michael Fleischmann at writing without giving away the story. So I'll simply say, after you watch this movie, the more you ponder the more you laugh. I'm a huge fan of Richard Elfman and I've never been dissapointed. Inspired by their favorite comic book heroes, young Tommy and his pals take it upon themselves to clean up their menacing neighborhood by busting the local street punks. But the three youths run into big trouble for all their good intentions-big trouble in the form of Big Mo (Meg Foster in a campy cigar chomping, not-to-be-missed performance), the local crime boss and all around bully. Bully indeed! Mo wastes no time in wasting the trio of irritating do-gooders. But hold on! All is not lost-just smaller. To the rescue comes Mr. Sumatra, a retired (but still practicing) voodoo specialist who revives the three boys with a healthy dose of mumbo-jumbo. Empowered beyond their wildest dreams, the shrunken trio "head on out" to take on Big Mo and her boys in a revved up action sequence featuring state-of-the-art special effects! So stand back and let the little guys go...you won't be disappointed. This was Full Moon's first theatrical release. Get it before it is out of stock. Rerations < Shrunken Heads [VHS] >

(Since my baby left me)
(A perfect MST3K vehicle)
(SO Funny!)
('Watch out for snakes') I have just ordered this thing after watching it on YouTube. The movie is icky&stupid. The riffs are comedic gold! Poor Joel's botched "plastic surgery"-via-Bots is wizz-your-pants-and-burst-your-sides LAFFS! Also the philiosophical musings on Hell give great chuckles&the sight of Robots taking showers (to wash off one YUCKY B-Flick)&Joel "Playing The Pig Accordian" (WHOONK! WHOONK! WHOOOONNNNKK!!!) is worth the price of the DVD alone. I can't wait to see it!....IN EEGAH!: SEE...The pith-helmeted creepy anthropologist Dad! GASP...at his lovely 30-Something-Teenage Daughter (who's a bit 'too close for comfort'...don't think about it)! SHUDDER...at the sunburnt Garbage-Pail Kid under the unfortunate delusion that he's Elvis! MARVEL...in horror, disgust&pity at the 7 foot tall Caveman who keeps his mummified, man-jerkied loved ones around...Ed Gein-style! YES! SEE "EEGAH!" AND YOU'LL NEED A SHOWER!...SEE "EEGAH!" AND WON'T EAT FOR A WEEK!...Keep it around during Lent or whilst dieting&PICTURE THE VISION OF EEGAH GETTING SHAVED AND SCHLOBBERING UP THE HAIRY SHAVING CREAM when you're tempted to eat that cream pie! Yes! It's Hillarious! It's Gross! It's EEGAH!...Right on MST3K....The way it SHOULD BE SEEN!!!......Oh don't forget Joel's facejob........................... Filmed in Palm Springs in an exotic t desert location. Roxy (Marilyn Manning) almost runs over a man (Richard Kiel) with an enormous uh...err...club. She tells he father and tacit boyfriend Tom (Arch Hall Jr.) who of course believe her (yah sure).
The father plans to make a novel about this novel person. To do this he dawns a "Call Me Bwana" African kaki outfit with pith helmet and takes a helicopter 10 miles to mysterious Shadow Mountain. There he disappears.
To the rescue are daughter Roxy, Tom and Tom's dune buggy. Roxy gets a good look at the giants club "Eagan" and cannot get over thinking about it. The giant gets a good sniff of Roxy and cannot get over thinking about it. Will true love takes its course between beings form different ages or will it end in tragedy?
"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown." Genesis 6:4 KJV
The Spy Who Loved Me Very funny, and a good place to start for a new Mystery Science Theater viewer.
This was a schlocky 60's teen film where caveman Eegah(a desert sulfur spring serving as his fountain of youth) falls head over heels for Roxie, the teen heroine. (Personally, I thought Roxie was rather skankish, probably pushing 30, and I thought one of the Bots made a good remark about her being "shaped funny" during her bikini scene).
Teen hero played by dorky Arch Hall Jr. is lampooned mercilessily and justifiably by the MST3K crew. Speaking of dork -- Roxie's dad is played by real life father Arch Hall Sr. The apple didn't fall far from the tree in that family.
Lots of delightfully wierd stuff . . . the caveman has his mummified dead family propped up in the cave . . . Dad basically hands his daughter over to the pawing, hormone gushing neanderthal . . . and how about the uncomfortably inappropriate scene where Roxie sings to her Dad while shaving him! YIKES!! I found myself trying to see what he was doing with his hands!
The Bots were also on their game during the commercial breaks. They set up a machine to transform Joel's face to look like Arch Hall Jr. And Tom Servo freezes Crow down to absolute zero . . . and he disintegrates.
This is one of the best MST3K episodes with Joel in my opinion. I usually like the later episodes the best, but this particular episode just never has dull points. How could a movie with a cabbage patch Elvis be unfunny? Highly reccomend Eegah! Nuff said really! Love this film
As Egah rips out and holds aloft swimming pool steps: 'That's a strange thing to weild.' A classic episode of the cult television series (in which an amiable space janitor and his metallic pals are forced to watch and deliver a sardonic running commentary on terrible movies), "Eegah" stars the gargantuan Richard Kiel (who would later become known for his sensitive portrayal of Jaws in a couple of the Bond films) in the title role as a still-kickin' Neanderthal looking for a little love in swinging 1960s California. One of the worst (or best, depending on your point of view) films ever to be featured on the show, this excruciating waste of celluloid provides ample fuel for Joel and the 'bots to deliver a wildly diverse, sustained barrage of hilarity (including an in-depth discussion of the widowed dad dichotomy of '60s sitcoms) at the source material's full expense. Enjoy, and remember to "watch out for snakes." (You'll understand after viewing.)--Andrew Wright Rerations < Mystery Science Theater 3000: Eegah [VHS] >

customer 's review (Not The Greatest Movie Ever Made, But Good Cast&Interestng Plot. A.J. Cook Is Terrific.)
(Are you kidding me??!)
(This is Great!)
(This is Great!) I saw this movie On Demand this past week and, while it isn't exactly the greatest film ever made, it's engaging enough because of the screen prescence of A. J. Cook (several years before the CBS crime drama "Criminal Minds") and a twist or two on a familiar plot. It's got its funny&tender moments. However, the ending was a little drawn out. SPOILER AHEAD!!! They could've ended the movie with Dwn holding Michael in her arms as they kissed at the dance AFTER showing what happened to the evil Mercedes (that's just me, though). LOVED the song "With You Tonight." Great beat. A made-for-TV movie for the whole family. Rated PG for some scary moments. I have seen some bad movies. But none as bad as this one. If you are above the age of 12, then you will die trying to sit through this movie. If you are below the age of 12, then engage your mind in something for thinking people.
This movie makes Disney Channel movies look like Oscar material.
The script appears to be written by less intellectually-endowed individuals who are upset that their lack of intellignce is keeping them from getting anywhere in life. (Note to screen play writer: lattitude and longitude lines are NOT parallel. They are PERPINDICULAR.Yes.)
I am quite convinced that even with NO movie experience, I could single handedly manage all of the acting, costume design, and special effects to a better degree. COME ON, PEOPLE! What is our world coming to?
And, if I were any of the actors/actresses in this movie, I'd, quite frankly, be embarrassed that this movie was on my resume.

(Entertaining)
(Fallen - A great movie!)
(Excellent Product and Service)
(Fallen in Philly has sight gags.) I'm going to tell you about a movie I almost like...
"Fallen" has always intrigued me. On the one hand, I really shouldn't like it. It's slow paced, the supernatural ingredients border the frivolous (a demon that makes people sing Rolling Stones?), and the ending is all wrong. Damn that cat!
And yet...
And yet, I find myself watching it every time Swedish TV reruns it. The actors are one reason: Denzel Washington, Donald Sutherland and John Goodman. The plot is also quite interesting. And if you have the right sense of humour, you might even appreciate the idea of a demon singing like Mick Jagger!
The main character of the movie, detective John Hobbes, is chasing a strange killer who turns out to be an ancient demon or fallen angel, named Azazel. The demon kills several people and then attempts to frame Hobbes for the murders. One of the victims is Hobbes' own brother. Azazel has the ability to jump from person to person, making them demon-possessed. Hobbes soon realizes that another police officer, Milano, has fought the demon. Before committing suicide under mysterious circumstances, Milano left a number of occult books in an abandoned mountain cabin. From these books, Hobbes finds out that Azazel has one fatal weakness: the demon can't survive in dead bodies, and it dies itself if it cannot switch hosts within a few seconds. Chased by the entire police force, Hobbes decides to lure Azazel into the wilderness, where there are no humans to be possessed within miles. The stage is set for a final show down between Man and Fallen Angel.
I won't reveal how the movie ends, but I would have appreciated another ending. If you've seen "Fallen", you know what I mean. Frankly, the ending annoys me!
Still, I give the movie four stars. As already mentioned, the actors are great, the plot is interesting, and the strange lack of action (in a movie filled with murders!) is actually quite relaxing.
But damn, damn that cat...
Had to get Fallen just because Denzel Washington is in it. Fallen is a good movie, not to become a great classic. I had seen it before buying. It is one of those that you would just like to see once in awhile. It has just enough mystery and drama to keep you entertained. I do love the ending. I don't know why other reviewers need to reveal all. If you like Denzel ,it will make a good addition to your movie library. I bought this movie because I love it and wanted to own my own copy. If you haven't seen it, you should. That is, of course, if you like scary movies. This isn't a slasher movie but is scary just the same. I was exceptionally happy with the speed in which I received the product. I was exceptionally happy with how well the item was package to avoid damage. I was exceptionally happy with the quality of the product. When the seller said "like new" he was being 100% honest. I have never had any problems with any order I have placed with Amazon.com which is why I use them and not Ebay, because Ebay products are not as good as they say they are. But Amazon products are ALWAYS as good as they say they are. Thank you for a great quality product! First may I say that this is an excellent movie on Spiritual forces that motivate people to do evil. The script involves a Philadelphia Homicide Detective who accidentally stumbles on the reality of the Devil. Detective "Hobbes", which if you do some checking, the double "b" was the ancient name for the Devil in England. A tribute to " Quatermass and the Pit", a British horror movie on Evil and Martian inheritance,is played very well by Denzel Washington and John Goodman as his partner serves a great supporting role. As explained by others, spirits move by either contact or death of a host. Once known, they hound the discoverer to his/her death, ala' "Mary Rose". By control of people, places and events they can lead you to do what you don't wish to do and force everything against you. When we encounter "possessed" people, we see what they see. A slightly off color spectrum, not quite as good as the human eye. This was similar (along with the background music) to "Wolfen" with Albert Finney, and the quick movement is obviously drawn from that film. As to sight gags, there is one scene where Hobbes feels that he is being followed. He sees a shadow climbing the train station (looks like North Philadelphia Station). When he gets to the top, The " presence" is felt but Hobbes can't see him. However, if you look closely at the station sign, you will see the word "Willoughby" very clearly. This of course was the mythical station of Gart Williams, who jumped off the train in a famous "Twilight Zone" episode to escape the stress of his corporate job where he sees a peaceful community set in the 1800s and walks off with the old conductor in that time, but is in fact the name of a funeral parlor in the modern world as his actions are chalked up to suicide where he is said to have jumped from the train shouting "Willoughby" Little things like these keep showing up during the film. Strange artwork inside buildings, all related to the Devil or Angels and The "witching hour" phone calls at 3AM. The humans involved who know living like mendicant monks, afraid to get involved with others because of the fear of peril for the innocent. Also the Rolling Stones music "Time is on my side" and "Sympathy for the Devil", all very appropriate in their roles for this work. Very close to the spiritual truth, save for the mortality of evil and certain mumbo jumbo. Philadelphia locations are excellent. Geno's versus Pat's steaks continue their war in this work and there is a lot of Septa Rail line filming, sections of Manayunk, City hall courtyard and the old Holmesburg Prison. All nicely disguised and done well. Very entertaining and well acted. THE THRILLS KEEP COMING. THE PLOT KEEPS TWISTING. THE SUSPENSE KEEPS GROWING. HOMICIDE DETECTIVE JOHN HOBBES HUNTS A SATANIC FORCE THAT SHIFTS FROM ONE HUMAN HOST TO ANOTHER IN THIS TAUT, TERRIFIC SUPERNATURAL THRILLER. Although it received mixed reactions from critics and audiences alike when released in 1998, this supernatural thriller benefits from a sustained atmosphere of anticipation and dread, and its combination of detective mystery and demonic mischief is handled with ample style and intelligence. Under the direction of Gregory Hoblit (who fared better withPrimal Fear), Denzel Washington plays detective John Hobbes, who witnesses the gas-chamber execution of a serial killer (Elias Koteas). But when another series of murders begins, Hobbes suspects that the killer's evil spirit has survived and is possessing the bodies of others to do its evil bidding. Even Hobbes's trusted partner (John Goodman) thinks the detective is losing his grip on reality, but the dire warnings of a noted linguist (Embeth Davidtz) confirm Hobbes's far-out theory, and his case intensifies toward a fateful showdown. Although its idea is better than its execution, and the story's film noir ambitions are never fully accomplished, this slickly directed thriller has some genuinely effective moments in which evil forces are entwined into the fabric of everyday reality. Among the highlights is a memorable scene in which Detective Hobbes must track the killer as the evil spirit is transferred between many people via physical contact. Even if the film is ultimately less than the sum of its parts, it's an intriguing hybrid that resides in the same cinematic neighborhood asSevenandThe Silence of the Lambswith a cast that also includes Donald Sutherland and James Gandolfini. Included on the DVD is a full-length audio commentary by director Hoblit, screenwriter Nicholas Kazan, and producer Charles Roven.--Jeff Shannon Rerations < Fallen >

(Best horror movie ever)
(Blair Witch Project Sure Produces That Scare That Will Last!)
(Absolutely great!)
(Please, buy "The Last Broadcast" instead!...or, send the money to me! (Just kidding--about the money thing).) This was one of the best experiences I've had on Amazon and I'm thankful the seller exceeded my expectations! -Wolf- This has to be the greatest horror movie ever made. What makes it so great was that the fear was in these young peoples minds. If we actually saw a witch, everyone would think that it was so trite and obvious. Of course we would not normally be scared of sticks or piles of rocks. It was the way the rocks were formed outside their tent that made them afraid. This movie is all about the fear of the unknown. I also love the way the end of the movie left us guessing, which movies rarely do these days. I have enjoyed these films where a random group of civilians takes there cameras and films events that would rarely happen. Cloverfield, Quarantine, and the film I just finished "The Blair Witch Project" are all very scary, suspenseful, on the edge of your seat, and overall beyond scary as hell movies. Of course I could say these three movies are better in certain ways then others but I would specifically like to talk about The Blair Witch Project. First off this movie just gives you the creeps and I mean the REAL creeps. The Blair Witch Project is shot like your watching a homemade video off of a crappy video camera which makes it twice as scary as it is. There's no soundtrack (music) to the film and it looks just completely homemade. Its hard to make a movie scary when the quality of the movie is bad but if you can produce something that's that scary like that I think it deserves a 5 star.
You have Heather, Josh, and Mike who document people telling stories and myths of the Blair Witch. Then they literally drive off in the middle of the woods supposedly where they think the Blair Witch exists. Heather and Mike have two separate cameras to document. The group thinks that they will just tour around the woods for the weekend, maybe film a few things here and there and then head home by Sunday to be back at work by Monday. Well...the weekend ends up longer then just 2 days and things start unraveling pretty bad and I mean SCARY BAD.
I was watching this by myself at 12:00 a.m. with a lighting storm, in the dark, and in my room. After this experience I think I don't want to watch this ever again by myself. I just might have to show my friends this movie since they never seen it.
Overall, The Blair Witch Project is a SCARY AS HELL MOVIE with creeps and shills running up your arms and spine, especially when your watching it BY YOURSELF IN THE DARK. Watching this movie any time of the day and with friends doesn't really at all remove your reaction after the film grows dark. Lets just say I won't be leaving my room by myself for at least a couple of days. Anyone will enjoy The Blair Witch Project if you like these types of movies or horror movies in general.
My movie was in wonderful shape and arrived a lot faster than I would have guessed. I definately recommend it. I am praying to the Horror Gods that all the losers in the world that got duped by The Blair Witch advertising juggernaut (yes, I too fell prey) have discovered The Last Broadcast, a horror "documentary" of a film crew searching for "The Jersey Devil" in a forest, and dying mysteriously one by one-- sound familiar? TLB came out one year BEFORE Blair Witch, and is far superior...the BWP film makers even admit to having seen TLB before making their movie--this confirms somewhat my conspiracy theory that Artisan threw some money at some "amateur film makers" to [outright steal the story line of TLB and] make a "real" horror documentary--instead of the story we all know too well. Someone turned me on to TLB sometime after I wasted an hour in the Blair Witch queue and fell asleep near the end of the film (with my girlfriend, no less--bloody boring movie!), and was elated/enraged after seeing TLB--after finding out about the back story of how BWP came about, and having wished I'd seen TLB first. I wanted to give BWP minus five stars, but unfortunately I cannot... IF THE BWP "FOOTAGE" WERE REAL, WHY DIDN'T THE MAJOR MEDIA SOURCES OF THE DAY DO ANY REPORTING ABOUT THE MYSTERIOUS DEATHS OF THE "FILM MAKERS"?! ARRGHHH! But I digress--if you consider yourself a budding fan of horror films, and need to see/own a film of this genre, buy The Last Broadcast asap. If you doubt me, do some research about TLB before hand--it will be time and money well spent. Three film students set out into the black hills forest to make a documentary on the legendary Blair Witch. Armed with a 16mm camera, a Hi8 video camera, and a Dat Recorder, every step, word and sound is captured. After wandering around black hills forest, Heather, Josh, and Mike are cold, lost and hunted. The Blair Witch Project Anyone who has even the slightest trouble with insomnia after seeing a horror movie should stay away fromThe Blair Witch Project--this film will creep under your skin and stay there for days. Credit for the effectiveness of this mock documentary goes to filmmakers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, who armed three actors (Heather Donahue, Michael Williams, and Josh Leonard) with video equipment, camping supplies, and rough plot outlines. They then let the trio loose into the Maryland woods to improvise and shoot the entire film themselves as the filmmakers attempted to scare the crap out of them. Gimmicky, yes, but it worked--to the wildly successful tune of $130 million at the box office upon its initial release (the budget was a mere $40,000).For those of you who were under a rock when it first hit the theaters,The Blair Witch Projecttracks the doomed quest of three film students shooting a documentary on the Burkittsville, Maryland, legend of the Blair Witch. After filming some local yokels (and providing only scant background on the witch herself), the three, led by Heather (something of a witch herself), head into the woods for some on-location shooting. They're never seen again. What we see is a reconstruction of their "found" footage, edited to make a barely coherent narrative. After losing their way in the forest, whining soon gives way to real terror as the three find themselves stalked by unknown forces that leave piles of rocks outside their campsite and stick-figure art projects in the woods. (As Michael succinctly puts it, "No redneck is this clever!") The masterstroke of the film is that you never actuallyseewhat's menacing them; everything is implied, and there's no terror worse than that of the unknown. If you can wade through the tedious arguing--and the shaky, motion-sickness-inducing camerawork--you'll be rewarded with an oppressively sinister atmosphere and one of the most frightening denouements in horror-film history. Even after you take away the monstrous hype,The Blair Witch Projectremains a genuine, effective original.--Mark Englehart Curse of the Blair Witch Are you wondering just exactly who the Blair Witch was? What the Burkittsville, Maryland, legend was all about? Or what exactly fascinated student filmmaker Heather and what possibly took her, Mike, and Josh from this earth? Get all your background questions answered byCurse of the Blair Witch, a one-stop-shopping "documentary" originally produced for the Sci-Fi Channel as a tie-in marketing tool. Entirely fictionalized,Curse of the Blair Witchfocuses both on the past and the present, with copious info on the Blair Witch myth as well as on the disappearance of Heather, Josh, and Mike. As it turns out, the original witch was one Elly Kedward, who was accused in 1785 of taking blood from several children; she was subsequently banished to the harsh winter woods and left for dead. Her grisly and bloody legacy involves missing children, polluted water, disemboweled men, and a serial killer of children who claims to have been haunted by "an old woman ghost." Aside from some ineffective "newsreel" footage of the serial killer, all this intriguing information is presented convincingly and chillingly.Cursemay in fact freak you out more than the movie, and it evokes the great, pulpyIn Search Ofseries of the '70s, one of the prime inspirations for filmmakers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez. News clips of the search for Heather, Josh, and Mike lend a vérité atmosphere to the proceedings, but shed little light on their mysterious disappearance or their characters. Basically, it's a tease to go see the movie. Still,The Blair Witch Projectprovided only ever-so-slight information on the legend that haunted the forest, so you'll want this cleverly constructed mock documentary to supplement your knowledge of the film.--Mark Englehart Rerations < The Blair Witch Project >

(I Love The Rings!!!)
(HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE)
(Great product..exactly as described)
(The Lord Of The Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy) My boys cannot get enough of these movies. We love the series and can't believe it has taken us this long to finally sit down and watch them. I was sick one day and had to stay home. I saw bits and pieces of the trilogy. That was not enough. I ordered the entire collection and have seen them in them completely. I LOVE THESE MOVIES!!! You can catagorize them any way you'd like, it doesn't matter. These are the greatest. The effects, music, everything. I would recommend these to anyone. I was very pleased with my LOTR purchase. I received everything just as advertised and in a short period of time. I would definitely buy from the seller again. It was tough to find this product online. The seller communicated with me very well and it was shipped as promised. Great condition. Would buy again. By now, most everyone has seen this set of movies, most probably in a theater. Having the set of DVD's at home gives you the chance to enjoy at your leisure. Leisure is important since several of the movies run into the 3-hr duration. A bit convoluted at times with flashbacks and such, especially if you had read the books prior to watching; but for the most part stays pretty close to the Tolkien story line. Great costuming and effects. Breathtaking scenery (New Zealand, I believe) which they use to great advantage. Definitely a worthwhile purchase. This critically acclaimed epic trilogy follows the quest undertaken by the hobbit Frodo Baggins and his fellowship of companions to save Middle-earth by destroying the One Ring and defeating the evil forces of the Dark Lord Sauron.Running Time: 662 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA Rating: PG-13 UPC: 794043710827 Manufacturer No: N7108 As the triumphant start of a trilogy,The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ringleaves you begging for more. By necessity, Peter Jackson's ambitious epic compresses J.R.R. Tolkien's classicThe Lord of the Rings, but this robust adaptation maintains reverent allegiance to Tolkien's creation, instantly qualifying as one of the greatest fantasy films ever made. At 178 minutes, it's long enough to establish the myriad inhabitants of Middle-earth, the legendary Rings of Power, and the fellowship of hobbits, elves, dwarves, and humans--led by the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and the brave hobbit Frodo (Elijah Wood)--who must battle terrifying forces of evil on their perilous journey to destroy the One Ring in the land of Mordor. Superbly paced, the film is both epic and intimate, offering astonishing special effects and production design while emphasizing the emotional intensity of Frodo's adventure, and ends on a perfect note of heroic loyalty and rich anticipation. After the breaking of the Fellowship, Frodo and Sam journey to Mordor with the creature Gollum as their guide inThe Two Towers. Meanwhile, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) join in the defense of the people of Rohan, who are the first target in the eradication of the race of Men by the renegade wizard Saruman (Christopher Lee) and the dark lord Sauron. Fantastic creatures, astounding visual effects, and a climactic battle at the fortress of Helm's Deep makeThe Two Towersa worthy successor toThe Fellowship of the Ring, grander in scale but retaining the story's emotional intimacy. WithThe Return of the King, the greatest fantasy epic in film history draws to a grand and glorious conclusion. The trilogy could never fully satisfy those who remain exclusively loyal to Tolkien's expansive literature, but as a showcase for physical and technical craftsmanship it is unsurpassed in pure scale and ambition, setting milestone after cinematic milestone as Frodo and Sam continue their mission to Mordor to destroy the soul-corrupting One Ring. While the heir to the kingdom of Men, Aragorn, endures the massive battle at Minas Tirith with the allegiance of Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf, Frodo and Sam must survive the schizoid deceptions of Gollum, who remains utterly convincing as a hybrid of performance (by Andy Serkis) and subtly nuanced computer animation. Jackson and cowriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have much ground to cover; that they do so with intense pacing and epic sweep is impressive enough, but by investing greater depth and consequence in the actions of fellow hobbits Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd), they ensure thatThe Return of the Kingmaintains the trilogy's emphasis on intimate fellowship and remains faithful to Tolkien's overall vision. By ending theLOTRtrilogy with noble integrity and faith in the power of imaginative storytelling,The Return of the King, like its predecessors, will stand as an adventure for the ages.--Jeff Shannon and David Horiuchi Rerations < The Lord Of The Rings - The Motion Picture Trilogy (Widescreen Edition) >

(The Haunted Mask II)
(The Haunted mask scares again)
(Goosebumps)
(Haunted Mask) These audio books help children that are having trouble with the written word. I also use them in the car, so each trip we hear more of the story. The kids love them and I think it makes them interested in reading. This book was realy good, it starts Off with Steve who Is coaching the first grade soccer team. Well they make him realy mad and he wants to get back at them for what they did. So he goes to his enemy Who is carly beth and asks her where she got her mask. When She tells him he goes and gets one but when he put it on he realizes its not just a mask But a creature. He cant get it off so he goes to carly beth she sais you should think of a happy thought so he does. Nothing happens so he goes to where he got it and found bodys that match and found the one that matched. Then his mask jumped onto the body. A book about a boy named Steve. Steve wants to get revenge on his first grade soccor team so steve asks Carly Beth (who scared him last halloween with a really scary mask) where she got such a scary mask so at first she wouldn't tell him so he forced it out of her. Later that night he left a sign on the window said that it was out of business so he went into an alley and saw the basement door open so he went into it and found a really creepy mask and ran out as fast as he could on Halloween he couldn't get it off so at the end of Halloween he finally got it off. This book was disappointing. I would rank the book a 2 out of 5. The story is about kids playing jokes on each other. The jokes would be to scare each other. The main person in the story is Steve. Steve coaches the first grade soccer team for Walnut Avenue Middle School. He was trying to scare his friends. I did not find this book to be scary. Younger students in 5-8th grade might find it more interesting. I read the Haunted Mask. The book had a pretty well written plot. I think that this book is very suitable for younger readers such as 3rd and 4th grade children. I myself am in 8th grade and sort of found the book easy, and not very challenging to read. Some other pretty good characteristics of the book are. Good description of what is taking place etc. Great action, makes you feel as if you are the character that is in the book. Last but not least the book has very good attention getting devices. That is all for my book review.Sincerely, Brett Heringhaus Deciding to go to the same Halloween costume store where his friend Carly Beth got her face rearranged the previous year, Steve Boswell searches for the perfect mask and finds it, unaware that the mask is even scarier than it appears. (TERRIFIC STORIES)
(Bar none the best.....)
(Deceased judges, a vampire,&a nasty supernatural monkey)
(Not your standard ghostly fare) For anyone who is looking for some excellent gothic ghost-stories,this is the book to start with.Le fanu is largely forgotten by today's reading public and the television absorbed culture. They don't know what their missing out on.Poe is the American grand-daddy of the mysterious horror story, yet the French-Irishman ,Sheridan LeFanu, is on the same level too.I can only recommend this gothic horror collection for all who what to be intellectually thrilled and pleasantly chilled .All before the witching hour surrenders,at the stroke of midnight,on the Eve of All-Hallows.For another year.Delicious reading for the Autumn season, til Samhain parts for another spell.-Beware of sleep, and Beware of Cats! These are great stories for bedtime reading. Compared to today's scary stories, these are elegant and inspired. If you have a taste for the fiction of bygone eras -- don't draw the line with today's best sellers -- you'll find a lot of magnificent writing. I'm still reading this book, and I plan to pass it around to all my pals. PBS and British Telly buffs will adore this book. Le fanu is the BEST writer of supernatual fiction there is...no questions!
I am the biggest fan...I collect all his works...old and new when I can find them.
The stories collected here are some rare ones indeed. The Haunted Baronet (from the Golden Friars) is a stunning gem of a novellete. Included in this volume are some very hard to come by edtions. And they have been reprinted exactly from the periodicals they were originally in.
I am sure you will not be disappointed in this book....like me you will read it again and again. The evocative power of Le Fanu is unparalled. Until the Dover edition of Sheridan Le Fanu's stories appeared in 1964, this nineteenth-century Irish author's tales were almost impossible to find. This is a shame, since M.R. James considered Le Fanu the best of all ghost story writers (I would put M.R. James at the top of my list, and J. S. Le Fanu, second). According to Jack Sullivan in "Elegant Nightmares: The English Ghost Story from Le Fanu to Blackwood," "...Nearly all of the early twentieth-century writers in the [supernatural story] field paced and structured their narratives in the Le Fanu manner."
This edition has an introduction by E.F. Bleiler who limns a brief biography of the author, and his influence on the ghost story writers who followed him. The sixteen stories in this collection range from 1837 to 1871. One is an essay presented as non-fiction, i.e. "An Authentic Narrative of a Haunted House." Concerning this essay, Bleiler states, "Personally, I am inclined to accept Le Fanu's strong statement that he was not writing fiction in the guise of fact, and that he is simple reproducing what others had told him."
Some of the stories are obscured by dialect, e.g. "Madame Crowl's Ghost" and parts of "The Haunted Baronet." Lines like "...twad gar ye dodder to hear him" can usually be worked out in the context of the plot and Le Fanu's stories are worth the extra effort. Quoting Jack Sullivan again, "Le Fanu's tales suggest a world in which we are unbearably alone in situations of escalating awfulness." The little maid is sleeping alone in one of Madame Crowl's chambers when the old beldame's ghost appears, "her eyes as wide as saucers, and her face like the fiend himself." Rose in "Schalken the Painter" is deserted by her guardian and minister after she begs them not to leave her alone, and she is doomed. In one of my favorite stories, "An Account of some Strange Disturbances in Aungier Street," two medical students move into a house once owned by an infamous, hanging judge. They are afraid to tell each other about their supernatural encounters for fear of being mocked--at least until one of them almost dies.
This book is the finest collection of Le Fanu stories ever compiled, and all ghost story connoisseurs should hasten to read it.
Probably the most distinguishing characteristic of LeFanu's writing to me is that he doesn't explain why something is happening in his stories. Ghosts search through drawers, skeletons are dug up, heroes disappear, and barons die of unseen causes, and we are never told what happened. LeFanu doesn't necessarily explain the motives and occurrences of his stories and loose ends are not all tied up. At first, I was unsure about what to think; what kind of ghost story doesn't explain all the events at the end? How am I supposed to be terrified if I don't know the ultimate cause of Baron X's demise? The method of storytelling began to grow on me, though, and I now feel that a lack of resolution on every issue creates a better story. Why should the supernatural be fully explained in 20 pages? When the reader is demoted from an omniscient viewpoint to that of only an eyewitness, the tale is more compelling. My favorite stories are probably"Sir Dominick's Bargain"and"An Authentic Narrative of a Haunted House,"the former for its mood and atmosphere, and the latter for its minimalist telling."The Haunted Baronet"is another excellent story, with strong attention to detail and background that help in the story-telling; it was a very satisfactory read."The Fortunes of Sir Robert Ardagh"is the same story told sans background and detail, and is clearly inferior. The other stories I enjoyed based on the setting, which is 19th century Ireland, which evokes a mood much like James'. Overall, it is the sort of book that makes you wish for a warm fireplace and a stormy night. Enjoy! Le Fanu is a Victorian writer who, along with Edgar A. Poe before him, invented the unity of mood and economy of means that characterizes the modern horror short story. Jack Sullivan, inHorror Literature, maintains that "Le Fanu was more revolutionary than Poe, for he began the process of dismantling the Gothic props and placing the supernatural tale in everyday settings." These quietly elegant tales include a female vampire who predates Dracula, a vicar troubled by a spectral monkey, a cruel hanging judge who gets his due and many other fine portents and hauntings. Here are 16 classic ghost stories "Carmilla," (perhaps the classic vampire thriller), "Green Tea," "The Familiar," "The Haunted Baronet," "Madam Crowl’s Ghost," "The Dead Sexton," "An Authentic Narrative of a Haunted House," plus nine others. Half these stories never published before in U.S.
