(A worthy successor to Delta Green)
『Chaosium achieved a real coup for the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game (RPG) in a way that Dungeons&Dragons never did: it put RPGs on equal footing with Lovecraftian literature. Because Chaosium publishes fiction and RPG supplements it presents both as legitimate, best evidenced by the Cthulhu Mythos Encyclopedia, which draws on both sources to round out the Mythos.

So it's a bold move when Chaosium publishes a new modern work without the comforting bosom of the surrounding Mythos to prop it up. Even more daring, the Spiraling Worm is a collection of action stories set in the modern day.

Ignore the cover. The picture of Peel, with his oddly stubby arms and stiff posture, isn't particularly compelling.

David Conyers may be best known for his RPG contributions, but he's equally comfortable in the fiction realm. His protagonist of note, Australian Army military intelligence officer Major Harrison Peel, is a no-nonsense action hero waging war against a cosmic threat he barely understands. John Sunseri's character of choice is NSA agent Jack Dixon, who is a bit less stalwart than his Australian colleague. Rounding out the global trio and connecting the stories is MI6 agent James Figgs, who ranges from cold aloofness in Sunseri's stories to borderline psychopath in Conyers'.

The series starts out with Peel and Figgs in Vietnam in Made of Meat, featuring only a hint of the Mythos in the Tcho-Tcho and their worship of Shub-Niggurath. The conclusion is open-ended and unsatisfying.

To What Green Altar is Dixon's introductory tale, a less satisfying but interesting take on Cthugha, the Tunguska Event, and the Vatican. Unfortunately, the Mythos knowledge possessed by the Church doesn't seem to figure in the other stories.

Impossible Object, more a science fiction tale, is awesome. Peel fights a battle of perception in his native Australia, trying to grapple with a device nobody can truly perceive, much less comprehend. The ending is an awesome cliffhanger, leaving you wondering if the entire universe might implode...

Until you read False Containment, so the universe clearly did not end. It unfortunately saps some of the strength of Impossible Object, but False Containment is so strong that it's easy to forgive. Featuring time travel, body horror, and a gibbering monstrosity that cannot be contained by time or space. False Containment is one of the few stories in this collection that isn't afraid to drive home the insane horror of the Mythos.

Resurgence features two shoggoths gone wild, the inevitable conclusion of a monstrosity that eats everything. Resurgence isn't afraid to escalate tensions to an international level, forcing Peel to sacrifice himself to save his beloved continent...

Until, that is, the events in Weapon Grade. Dixon brings Peel into another mission, this one featuring another dimension and more shoggoths. It's interesting but not as powerful as the other short stories - it feels more like an excuse to keep Peel alive (he's cured of his ailment by the end of it) than anything else.

The title work, The Spiraling Worm, is a filthy, disturbing foray into the heart of the Congo jungle. Dixon, Peel, and Figgs are together again, and the circumstances are unsparingly brutal. This is a story that's not for the faint of heart. It features a suitably climactic showdown between helicopter gunships, Nyarlathotep, and an elder artifact. Unfortunately, the bizarre mask and its rotting cult steal the show. The conclusion is actually a beginning, as Dixon and Peel join forces to launch a secret organization dedicated to eradicating the Mythos...

If this sounds familiar, it's because it's been done already: Delta Green, wherein government agents with little infrastructure support wage a secret war against the Mythos. Chaosium has never quite fully embraced the enormously popular modern take on the Call of Cthulhu role-playing game, publishing its own brand of "Cthulhu Now" supplements. In fact, some of the stories in Spiraling Worm were originally meant to be part of Delta Green, but presumably they weren't able to get the rights from Pagan Publishing.

It seems as if the authors are intent on building their own, parallel, government-against-the-mythos series by connecting to Tim Curran's Hive. Which isn't a bad thing. But with the resurgence of Delta Green, I wonder if DG fans will be forced to choose.

(Humans fight back!)
『This was an excellent and fun book to read. If you are well versed in the Mythos, you'll find many references to the classics ... but without all of the "squamous tentacles" and "ichor covered walls" ... instead, the horrors are real, tangible, and described in fascinating detail. You may think that this removes the atmospheric horror, but not in this case. The two authors who share duties on this collection of short-stories in a shared world, do an excellent job of exploring the existential terror of Mythos monsters. But, they do so in a modern setting, where world governments are aware that "they" are out there, and even try (foolishly) to harness and control the dangerous technology associated with the Old Ones.

The stories are part James Bond / Tom Clancy and part "The Ring" and with a little of "The Da Vinci Code" thrown in. The monsters involved do much more than just eat you - and the threat they pose is also much more global in scope. The protagonists travel the world, uncover mysteries, and try like hell to keep the "incursions" from destroying all human life.

I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable read.』

(Interesting ideas. Abysmally written.)
『This book is full of interesting ideas for "Call of Cthulhu" and particularly "Delta Green" wonks. So if you only read for the thrill of speculation and are willing to overlook mediocre prose, asinine dialog, boring characters, and lousy fiction chops in general, then you will probably enjoy it. Personally I have a hard time with that. Every ridiculously implausible plot development, every line of dialogue that sounds like a Steven Segal movie, every time the writer chooses to explain rather than evoke the story--these all stick in my craw and make it hard to take any pleasure from the text. A 5-star book, in my opinion, is one that comes as close to achieving perfection as any human work is capable, and anyone who reads this book and thinks it couldn't have been done any better has a dim view of our species indeed. The huge gulf between the book I expected (based on the glowing reviews) and the book I received made this one of the most disappointing reading experiences of my life, and left me suspicious, honestly, that the reviews here on Amazon have been padded by those with a financial or other personal stake in this book』

(Good stuff!)
『I came here to write a nice review of the book, but after reading all of the positive comments already posted I don't think there's much I can add. The only detractor for me was the cover art. I know Chaosium reissues their more successful titles and if this one gets a reprint I'd like to see it with a new cover. I hope these two authors pair up again for another go at it.』

(An excellent work, but an editorial issue...)
『This was a great book with well conceived stories and top rate characterization and writing - best Mythos work I've read so far.

HOWEVER. I'm one of those who read all the info on the front and back covers of the book before I start on the innards, and I was not happy to find that the editors had felt it necessary to print the full culmination of the final story on the back cover. This was a spoiler of epic proportions.

Buy the book, but do NOT read the cover text... What the HELL were they thinking? *sharon*』

(Very entertaining)
『Very entertaining book - has a lot of creative thought. There were some parts that I laughed hard and one part that I didn't like, but overall very fun!』

(I wish my night shifts were like this!)
『I have to say, I love this book. I've been going to Mr. Goodman's blog and reading excerpts from The Apocalypse Shift. However, I can no longer wait for the updates. I must have the book now. This is one of the most entertaining and original pieces of writing I've had the pleasure of reading in some time. So I've cashed in my beer and soda cans, checked the sofa and pockets of my jeans, and now, finally, I can read the entire book. As a nurse, for many years I preferred and worked the night shift. But it was nothing like this, unfortunately.』

(Excellent Blend of Horror and Humor)
『Caleb works the night shift at the local OneStop convenience store in the middle of a section of the city called the Hill. On the Hill, some (hell, most) of the residents are a bit unusual. Most of them aren't even human. Vampires, werewolves, zombies, tentacled demons and others roam the streets at night, sometimes as regular residents and OneStop customers and sometimes as something a bit more sinister. The night shift is always full of supernatural mayhem, but when Caleb's penchant for keeping "trophies" from their battles backfires, the crap hits the fan in such a way that life on the Hill may never be the same again. Now it's up to Caleb, his zombie-loving coworker Phil and their former-coworker-turned-stripper Gloria to track the trophies down before they're used to nefarious ends. All this, and Caleb has to keep from annoying Gloria enough to get a second date.

It's a shame that horror and comedy aren't blended together more often. When done right, it's absolutely amazing, and that's exactly what The Apocalypse Shift is. Imagine what Clerks would be like with an extended cast of supernatural freaks and weirdos, minus the donkey sex and sodomy jokes, and this is what you would end up with. It's a wild, hilarious ride that grabbed me from the first page and kept me from putting it down until I was finished. There were places in the book where I could not stop giggling, and anyone around me while I was reading it probably assumed I'd gone a bit off my rocker.

Like most indie/DIY publishing efforts, The Apocalypse Shift has a grittier appearance than your run-of-the-mill corporate publishing venture. Library of Horror uses a font that's slightly larger than I'm used to, and there are the occasional issues with spacing between words and subtle word choices that caught my eye. However, this did little if anything to detract from the overall experience, and anyone with a love of indie publishing knows their appeal is in the innovative storytelling and not the overall polishing of the package. Typesetting aside, Library of Horror goes all out with the size of their books. Apocalypse Shift (and all of the other Library titles that I've seen) are published in a nice trade size, with high quality paper and attractive, glossy covers.

For anyone with a love of horror and humor, I can't recommend The Apocalypse Shift enough.』

(Excellent book! Very entertaining!)
『I was reading this book during a very busy time in my real life and I couldn't wait each day to read a little more.
The book is funny and exciting. It is smartly written, which surprised me because usually you get either really smart or really funny, you don't get both.
The main characters and their romances are humorous, but you will find yourself rooting for our hero to get the girl at the end.
Lately, I've been really sick of all these people trying to be funny and TRYING to write like Terry Pratchett or be Monty Python, but I have to say I think Derek Goodman is well on his way to having a franchise like Discworld here.
I can't wait for his next novel.
And, by the way, I met him at a horror convention in Pittsburgh in September, and he was really nice to boot!
I would suggest this novel if you like fantasy horror, comedy, or smart. And good luck to the nice-guy author, I hope this does very well!』

『A comedy of horrors surrounds the OneStop convenience store. After midnight the customers seem just a little odd. Well, actually VERY odd. Vampires, werewolves, Chutulu, zombies and a plethora of other classic horror characters visit the store. "The Apocalypse Shift" is like a combination of "Clerks" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". You're in for one helluva treat. A must read for any fan of the genre. Among the Living is a raging tale of zombie carnage with characters who's story lines work on a much deeper level. Check it out!" -Eric S. Brown "Most zombie fiction is rife with smart dark humor but seldom do I laugh out loud when deep in the thrall of a good zombie tale." -Horror News - Big Daddy Dakness "I really loved the entire overall plot, the slow buildup of tension until the city explodes in mayhem, the characterization as a whole, and the gory, action-packed scenes toward the end. This is a good, solid zombie book and I highly recommend it." -Rhiannon Frater』

『Im looking for this movie on dvd,any region. If you know where to find it on dvd please leave a review for me to see on amazon. Thanks』

(Better Than Some)
『I will admit that this was not a top of the line horror movie. It was just a low budget DTV film, designed for a quick weekend rent value. I got this movie free a long time ago when I ordered the old 80's Campfire Tales movie and was sent this one instead. I had never heard of it until that day, but I still own it and I watch it every once in awhile to this day. The first story was decent, with the newlyweds getting broke down in the woods and getting attacked by the creatures in the dark. The end of this one goes waaaaaaaaay back to some old scary stories, but its still ok. The second story probably carried the only real impact of any of the 4 stories in the movie. It was about a girl talking on the internet to her friend, but what she doesn't know is that its not her friend, but some freakoid killer who is in her house. The second story also had another plus above the other 3 stories and if you've already seen this movie you probably already know that I'm gonna say that plus is the girl in the movies older sister. OMG did she look just straight yummy or what?! I mean dang! In her one scene where she is fighting with her sister and shes standing there in just just her bra. All I can say is WOW! Watch that part guys, this girl does not disapoint. She's flat out tasty looking :) Anyway, the third story goes way back as well, a guy breaks down on motorcycle, ends up in an old house with a mute girl with a locket around her neck that she won't take off. I knew which story it was the minute I saw the locket, but its still a cool story. Also, I have noticed that in above reviews, several guys have pointed out that the girl playing the mute in the third story is hot. Well, she is indeed guys, but how could you leave out that yummy older sister in the 2nd story?! As for the 4th story, well I'm not gonna say anything about that one. Just watch for yourself. Heres my advice, rent it, watch it, and if you like it, buy it on Half.com for like $2』

(cheesy horror flick)
『I dont know why they made this pile but it stunk beans. only the story with Glenn Quinn and the headless girl saved this one from being a total shame, because Glenn Quinn rocks and may he rest in peace』

(One of the creepiest low-budget flicks ever)
『Campfire Tales isn't a well-known movie. I only discovered it by running out of choices in the movie store, and just happened to pick it up-didn't have anything better to get sort of thing. I was delightfully surprised at how entertaining, and down-right creepy this rather cheesy flick was and at how clever the plot is drawn out. 4 friends, 1 couple and a brother and sister, crash their car off on the side of the road, and decide to flare up the street around the site of the accident, waiting for help. They discover a run-down, deserted old-fashioned church, and decide to light a fire within the church and sit-out the waiting. They soon decide to make the time go by faster by telling well-known urban legends. The first story is about a young, newly-wed couple camping out in the woods for their honeymoon, however are soon attacked by devilish, werewolf-like monsters throughout the night (where the heck am i gonna find some m'm's?). The second is about a young girl, who, while her mom is at a parent-teacher conference, discovers she is not alone in her big, dark house after all (people can lick too), and the third is about an adventurous biker who, recently hitting the road, runs out of gas and stops for the night at an old manshion, looked after by a beautiful young girl. He soon finds out that looks can be deceiving and discovers the grisly horrible truth of the pleasant-looking houses' sinister past. These stories are all very scary and creepy, but the big finale of a shock is awaiting to explode at the end of the 3rd. GREAT FUN!!!!』

(In The Tradition of Scream&I know What You Did Last Summer)
『This little shocker came out at the same time as"Scream","I know What you did..."
Returning home from a concert and ... driving recklessly, four teenagers crash their car on a deserted road near the woods. To ward off the cold, they build a fire and wait for help. Soon, they start telling hair-raising stories around the fire. Each tale is more horrifying and shocking than anything they've heard before . . .』

(Underrated)
『Very original story with great acting. If you like horror then add this to your collection』

(2.5 stars out of 4)
『The Bottom Line:

Copycat earned some plaudits upon its release, but its a basically straightforward thriller that sits much more comfortably next to Kiss the Girls than Silence of the Lambs; by way of example, within 20 minutes any attentive viewer should be able to guess which extraneous character is doomed by the law of character economy.』

(Copycat)
『For lovers of police drama, this movie is a must see. Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter are superb. Holly Hunters outfits are quite nice.』

(Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter make this an enjoyable and gruesome excursion into serial killing)
『"Screams of the victim deaden his pain. The act of killing makes him feel intensely alive. What he feels next is not guilt but disappointment. It was not as wonderful as he'd hoped. Maybe next time it will be perfect." --Dr. Helen Hudson speaking on serial killers.

Copycat is a first-class psychological serial killer/diller/thriller nearly undone by a conventional slasher/thriller climax. The end works well enough, but once you've seen one jump-out-and-scare-us, spray-in-the-face, last-minute-save cliché you've seen them all. The only difference in the clichés is how close we get to the blade going in, the skull cap blasting off, and the last minute twist being irrelevant to the story.

What makes Copycat so superior to the others can be summed up in two names: Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter. Weaver plays Helen Hudson, an authority on serial killers, in demand for lectures, consulted by the police, and a smart woman. That all changes when she is attacked by a serial killer and barely survives. The guy winds up in prison for life. Hudson winds up a prisoner, too. Thirteen months later we can see that she's been so traumatized that she has turned her apartment into a fortress. She's too frightened to venture outside. She needs liquor to get through the hours and pills and paper bags to deal with the panic attacks. She trusts few others. She deals with life through her computer. She's still an authority on serial killers, but her life has become a wasteland. (She does have that terrific San Francisco apartment.} Then she discovers that there is a new killer at work, one who mimics the style of killing that other serial killers have used. When she tells the police that recent, horrible murders are being committed by one madman, that brings us to Holly Hunter, who plays police inspector M. J. Monahan.

Monahan is quick, smart, feisty, small and, yeah, kinda cute. She's also tough enough to make big, male cops nervous. She's friendly, she's liked, she's prickly and no one doubts who's in charge when she's on a case. Dead bodies don't bother her too much. Monahan is a pro. Between Hudson's knowledge of serial killers, as wracked out as she is, and Monahan's gritty persistence, it's not long before we...then Hunt...then Monahan...realize Hunt has become the target for the copycat killer's affections. Now we're in the middle of a stylish, murderous cat-and-mouse game. Monahan, working with the difficult, isolated Hudson, is determined to capture this man. And the serial killer is going to go after Hudson, locked away in her fortress of an apartment.

Copycat gives us every old favorite in the book...darkened hallways, closed shower curtains, empty bathrooms, cops tricked off their assignments, ingenious ways to kill...and they still work. In an added twist, the current killer seems somehow to be able to communicate to the man who attacked Hunter and who now is in a secured slammer.

The only real drawback, if one doesn't mind too much the standard scares at the end, is the movie's length...more than two hours. If the director had had the energy to lop off 20 minutes the way the serial killer lops off lives, the movie, in my view, would have been even better. Even so, Copycat is a fine, intelligent movie made special by Hunter and Weaver, and with effective performances by Will Patton, Dermot Mulroney and a really unpleasant Harry Connick, Jr. The score is low-key and evocative. There's even a song by Sting and Andy Summers that the killer seems particularly fond of:

It's murder by numbers, one, two, three
It's as easy to learn as your a b c
Murder by numbers, one, two, three
It's as easy to learn as your a b c

Now if you have a taste for this experience
And you're flushed with your very first success
Then you must try a twosome or a threesome
And you'll find your conscience bothers you much less

Because it's murder by numbers, one, two, three
It's as easy to learn as your a b c.

The DVD looks very good. There's a "making of" extra and a commentary by the director.』

(Creepy good.)
『Copycat starring Sigourney Weaver and Holly Hunter is the best cat and mouse game of all-time. Released in 1995, I still find this film intriguing and nail-biting. The two stars are dynamite together, look out for a creepy Harry Connick Jr. who plays a copycat serial killer. Dermot Mulroney also stars, this guy is so under-used! I love, love, love this thriller, gotta see this one, enjoy!』
『Taking its lead from Jonathan Demme's Oscar-winning pulse-raiserThe Silence of the Lambs,Copycatstrives for intelligence over gristle and carnage. It's a terse, involving thriller that swings away from the usual cinematic notion of violence as a means to an end by forgoing brawn for brains. Young San Francisco police inspector Ruben Goetz (Dermot Mulroney) is teamed with brilliant force vet, M.J. Monahan (Holly Hunter), a diplomatic, no-nonsense cop who must buck the system in order to find a killer who is copycatting the crimes of history's most notorious serial killers. Ruben would rather shoot to kill than merely wound a suspect; Monahan labors to help him think more diplomatically. Everything changes when crank calls arrive at the station from serial-killer pin-up girl psychiatrist Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver). She's been housebound for 13 months, ever since murderer Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick Jr.) nearly made her his next victim because she testified against him in court. Though he's in prison, he's still mentor and muse to every loose cannon walking the streets--one of whom is killing people with a vengeance and hoping to finish the job Cullum began. Cop and doc team up to solve the case in this stylish, plot-driven movie. ThoughCopycatloses steam in the end, it still makes a point. And it serves as a cautionary tale for people everywhere, tossing in street smart warnings against victimization. The teaming of Hunter and Weaver works well, the short and the tall forging a terrific and frictioned relationship that leads to grudging respect. Establishing an ominous atmosphere reminiscent of his classic British TV miniseriesThe Singing Detective, director Jon Amiel has an eye for the dark and the unusual and it gives this film an edge that eludes most other mainstream filmmakers.--Paula Nechak

(Ahead of its time...)
『Kronos is a great 50's scifi film that warns of using up all of Earth's natural resources.
It's a "B" movie for sure but budgetary constraints notwithstanding, this is a fun movie and a real winner.
I've always felt George O'Hanlon (aka Joe McDoakes and George Jetson) should have gotten better billing, since he's indispensible to the plot.
Have fun spotting other 50s "B" movie stalwarts like Morris Ankrum and Robert Shayne.
Highly recommended.』

(50's Sci-Fi Sayonara)
『The premise and excitement of KRONOS is ably kept afloat by Jeff Morrow and John Emery, whose combined experiences in this genre carry the story line. Director Kurt Neumann overcame the challenge of a low budget and delivered an entertaining film. Maybe not a 'classic', but certainly an enjoyable rainy day escape.』

(Great old movie)
『I loved this reminded me of late night Gulardi when I was 10 years old』

(dumb movie)
『Well it is a dumb movie. A giant robot like machine comes from
outer space. It walks around draining the energy from power sources on the earth. That idea may not be that bad. It's just
that the movie is kind of dumb.

(Kronos (1957)-Rediculous but fun sci-fi film from the 50's!)
『I saw Kronos at the LUXOR Theater in the old Bronx back in 1957 when I was ten. At the time I really enjoyed it to the tune of four stars. Evaluating it today I would say I should rate it at only about three stars.

It was entertaining and pretty well done. I believe this film qualifies as classic 50's sci-fi with all that entails. By the way, there is no question that Kronos demonstrated no means of foreward propulsion, and would definitely have punched holes into the earth beneath its column like legs (as another reviewer has already said).』

『Astronomer and all-around scientific hero Jeff Morrow (he of the stone face, Cro-Magnon brow, and heavy voice of dire intonation) discovers a new celestial body that suddenly changes course and slams into the Pacific Ocean off the Mexican coast. Meanwhile a mysterious white light takes over the body of lab director John Emery, who becomes the eyes and ears of the UFO when it emerges days later as a skyscraper-sized robot. Morrow and his crew--including his beauty-with-brains girlfriend, Barbara Lawrence; wisecracking sidekick, George O'Hanlan; and computer, SUSIE, which whirs and blinks but offers little real help--leap to the rescue, but not before the Mexican air force takes on the giant in a scene reminiscent ofKing Kong. Director Kurt Neumann, best known for the originalThe Fly, gives this low-budget sci-fi thriller an impressive scope, sending the striking, austerely designed giant robot (a walking battery with piledriver legs) marching across a B&W widescreen frame like a relentless tank and punctuating the drama with an impressively chilling A-bomb blast. Though hardly a classic, this is one of the more interesting alien invasion movies of the paranoid 1950s.--Sean Axmaker

(Good Fantasy movie)
『Entertaining fantasy movie not as well done as Lord of the
rings or dragonheart but it does have outstanding
special effects and excellent acting
by John Malkovich,Jeremy Irons and Ed Speleers..
visually beautiful...great scenes with the dragon.

A Poor young teenage boy finds a beautiful
blue stone that turns out to be a Dragon egg..(Dragons pick
the people they want to be their rider before hatching.)

Eragon curiously listens to a downtrodden man in his village telling
tales about the evil king and unknown to Eragon...
it is Brom who was a exdragon rider(his dragon died)
Brom's inner powers senses that Eragon may be the new rider that
the oppressed people are expecting to release them from
the evil clutches of the king...and is dissapointed that
the dragon picked such a young boy....

Brom follows Eragon home and feels the responsibility to
to teach him the ways of a rider.
Eragon's Uncle is found dead and his home burned.

Revenge is in Eragon's Mind and he and Brom
set out to fight with the varden (a mixture
Of beings elves.etc) to get rid of the King (played by John Malkovich)
an evil dragon rider strayed from being a protector to be
mad from power and dark magic.

The books are extremely well written and some are dissappointed
with the first movie adaption.. the book is just a difficult act to follow...
books that are good in character development just dont translate as
well to a movie...if you are expecting it to be very close to the
book and feel let down if it doesn't... you may not like it....』

(Disappointing)
『I watched this in the theater with my son. The first 20 minutes of it are pleasant and wonderful.

Then the shift comes in tone, scenes are edited quickly. Episodes from the second book are introduced to fill gaps. The story becomes one great big mess. Whole other episodes go unfilmed, unexplained.

My son who had such glee for the first two reels walked out of the theater fairly angry.

He ticked off several things wrong with the picture's framework, and large gaps in the story line, missing important elements.

PS: he doesn't want to even think about owning a DVD of the feature.

(it was nothing like the book)
『You do not get an impression of the book from the movie. The book is way better.』

(What Happened?)
『Spoilers, ahoy.

Well. This was quite the disaster. I've been reading the books for several years, and purposely didn't see the movie when it was in theaters because I kept hearing bad things about it. Curiosity got the best of me the other day, however, and I rented it.

I'm not exaggerating when I say 90% of the movie was inaccurate. It all began with a butchered pronunciation of "Alagaesia." When there's a pronunciation guide in the back of the book, there's just no excuse for that. One could argue that the writer/director/producer/whatever didn't know how to pronounce it because they didn't read the book, but let's at least give them the benefit of that particular doubt.

For my fellow book fans: Eragon was fine, but everyone else was completely out of character. Roran skips town because he's old enough to be recruited into the Empire's army, and he ain't down with forced military service. Brom wasn't wise or very helpful. Arya flirts with Eragon in every scene they have together AND her ears aren't pointy (which isn't her behavior, but still). And, the icing on the cake, Murtagh shows Eragon how to find the Varden. I know.

What could've been a slower-paced epic like Lord of the Rings ended up being a jumbled mess, zipping through scenes fast enough to give me whiplash. A 500+ page book was squeezed into an hour and 45 minutes. A lot of important plot points were removed, too, making it practically impossible to ever make a sequel without re-doing this one first. Actually, that's an idea I could get behind.

If you're after a GOOD dragon story, stick to the books.』

(Good movie, not like the book...)
『This is one of those instances where the book is better than the movie (Isn't that how it usually is?) In fact, the movie was a little bit disappointing. It barely followed the book, and the parts that did were almost destroyed. Also, time is a problem in the movie. No not the fact that it only lasted about an hour and 45 minutes, although I didn't like that either. It was how the movie ran. The book takes place over a period of weeks. The movie made it look like Eragon lived right next door to the Varden instead of traveling miles and miles every day. All in all, dissappointed. Only buy this if you are a real, die-hard Inheritance fan. Otherwise, just rent it and save your money.』

While it owes much of its appeal and appearance to theLord of the Ringstrilogy,Eragoncan stand on its own as an enjoyable fantasy for younger viewers. Faithfully adapted from the bestselling novel by teenage author Christopher Paolini, this boy-and-his-dragon tale offers clean, fast-paced family entertainment without compromising the darker qualities of Paolini's novel (the first in what is known as the "Inheritance" trilogy). The plot centers on 17-year-old peasant farmboy Eragon (played by appealing newcomer Ed Speleers) who discovers a mysterious blue object that turns out to be an egg that eventually hatches to reveal Saphira, a blue-scaled dragon that quickly grows to full-size. According to prophecy, Eragon is destined to be a dragon-rider like those who once protected a benevolent kingdom, thus reviving an ancient conflict against the army of King Galbatorix (John Malkovich), a former dragon rider who turned to evil, now in alliance with a! dark-magic "Shade" sorcerer named Durza (Robert Carlyle). While the movie serves up familiar fantasy elements and offers little if anything new to fans of the genre (or anyone who's read the books of Anne McCaffrey and Ursula K. Le Guin), it's visually impressive (especially the dragon scenes, with Rachel Weisz providing the telepathic "voice" of Saphira) and full of timeless wisdom, much of it delivered by Eragon's heroic mentor Brom (Jeremy Irons), himself a former dragon rider with memories of past battles and hope for Eragon's future. Add a fair warrior-maiden named Arya (Sienna Guillory) and you've got all the ingredients for a worthwhile (if not particularly original) fantasy that points directly to a sequel. Whether that's a good or a bad thing is up to individual viewers to decide. --Jeff Shannon

(But Sooner or Later... It's Time to Go Home.)
『Awesome, one of my favorite horror films. Great clips from both good and bad horror films. From the classics to the cookie cutter to the thoroughly idiotic and everything in between. This movie inspired me to watch several films I'd never seen before and to look back on favorites lost in the mists of the past. Watch for the late (and greatly missed) Donald Pleasance and also the late Fred Asparagus for a cameo. Expertly written and enjoyed.

It's only a movie, but sooner or later, you must leave the theater and go home. Perhaps alone...』

(A nice look at horror.)
『Donald Pleasance and Nancy Allen narrate "Terror in the Aisles", which is a movie that attempts to present scenes from various horror movies in the hope of tying together common themes of "terror", showing horror from different perspectives, mostly. Rather than analyzing horror movies, "Terror in the Aisles" is a more of a celebration of horror movies.

"Terror in the Aisles" uses different scenes from different horror movies in order to provide the viewer with a well-rounded selection of some of the scariest movies ever made. However, "terror" is obviously defined a good bit more liberally than I would like in "Terror in the Aisles" because some of the movies that are portrayed as being scary are rather silly in my opinion e.g. giant tarantula movie, etc. That being said, there are significant scenes from the best and scariest horror movies ever made like: "Halloween", "The Shining", "When A Stranger Calls", "The Omen", "Psycho", "Halloween II" and "The Exorcist". Just about all of the scariest movies ever made were present in some capacity, although I would have liked to have seen more scenes from "Salem's Lot" starring David Soul, and this was disappointing to me as I do not remember seeing much from this movie, although it has been awhile since I've seen "Terror in the Aisles".

In "Terror in the Aisles", there are other scenes from movies that are very old as well as scenes from lesser known movies that may be of some interest to horror movie completists like myself. Overall, I was pleased with what I saw, notwithstanding some of the silliness that was also evident. Another point worth noting is that "Terror in the Aisles" is a 1984 movie, so if you are looking for anything post 1984, you obviously will not find it. However, there are only a few scary movies that are worth mentioning that are post-1984 in my opinion. In other words, you will not be missing much.』

(Should've been put on DVD by now)
『This is a neat flick the way they had spliced clips from horror flicks together the way they did, especially from popular old flicks like PSYCHO, HALLOWEEN, HALLOWEEN 2, FRIDAY THE 13TH: PART II, THE FOG, DRESSED TO KILL, CARRIE, THE OMEN, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, ROSEMARY'S BABY, THE SHINING, WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, POLTERGEIST, NIGHTHAWKS, THE SEDUCTION, THE BIRDS, SCANNERS, THE FURY, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, JAWS, JAWS II, MARATHON MAN, THE EXORCIST, VICE SQUAD, etc., so I don't see what's taking them so long to put "TERROR IN THE AISLES" on DVD, because I would've bought this flick a long time ago if it was on DVD.』

(Great stuff!)
『I love this movie. It's a rarity. The hosts Nancy Allen&Donald Pleasence were wonderful and the scenes from some of the best horror movies ever are enticing. I've actually rented, bought and recorded movies that were in this film just from watching Terror In The Aisles. It is unfortunate that film rights and stuff interfere with this movie being released on DVD. It's a great promotional piece for other movies so I don't see why they can't get the rights to release this on DVD. Still it is worth it to buy this on VHS. One of my favorite movies about horror movies ever!』

(Horror 101)
『You cannot consider yourself a true horror buff if you do not own this piece of cinematic history. Donald Pleasance&Nancy Allen take us through some of the most memorable scenes of horror films (from B&W's up until 1983), while explaining the subtle geniuses behind them. There's more to macabre movies than meets the eye. Demon children, manmade monstrosities, serial killers... We are in love w/horror in all forms and this film takes a fascinating look at the relationship between horror, entertainment and the psychological need we have to scare ourselves.』
