No matter how old he is, or how long of a layoff from music he has blues-harmonica master Jerry McCain always manages to put fresh energy and original songs into his music. This CD collects material from McCain's tenure with Ichiban which produced four fine albums. McCain rarely does covers, and there is not a single one on this collection. Many of the songs deal with issues typical with blues singer (women, feelin' bad etc.) but many also deal with subjects not common with blues singers (crack-houses, suing people, being spoiled etc.) which is a pleasant change. McCain's harmonica playing is showcased on all the tracks as well, especially on the six-and-a-half minute instrumental "Tumblin' in the Sea". "Blues Tribute" is a nice tribute to some of McCain's lost heroes and friends in the blues world. It's a shame Jerry McCain isn't the superstar he should be. His songwriting has always been fantastic and many of his 50's recordings should've been hits, while his harmonica playing ranks with the best in the world. But hey, the music world is an unpredictable and sometimes unfair thing. Hopefully this review may convince a few people to look into this one-of-a-kind blues legend. customer 's review (One of the best 80s movies ever&an all time classic for any age!!!)
(WOW)
(DVD purchase)
(Footloose and Free!)
(Great flick, ok transfer) This movie is awesome... Coming from one of the best decades ever, having an incredible soundtrack, great acting, and a unique story line- this movie is one of the best ever&will continue to be watched by every age group for years to come.
The movie brings back so many memories for me... I still get just as excited watching it now, as I did back in the day!
Lori Singer and Kevin Bacon were perfect for the roles and what about Chris Penn's performance??? he did a superb job...
This movie never get's old and is just plain AWESOME!!!
I hope they put it on bluray disc...
Thanks for reading my review...
I saw this in the movies when it first came out, but I was amazed how many of the songs in the show are now 'standards'. We recently saw the road show in Ft. Lauderdale and it inspired us to buy the DVD. (The movie's better!!) product received was as advertised, and in great condition. Would buy from this vendor again. I cannot believe it has been 25 years ago that we watched this movie in the theatres! Wow! It caused an uproar then with our friends but today seems somewhat calm and shows that kids really need a little freedom of expression to do what comes naturally. Of course, all within reason and respect. Still a great movie to watch with your grandkids and talk about what things were like "back in the old days!" Footloose is a bit of a classic, and still fun to watch. Great 80's dance tunes that take me back to my high school years. It's great to see the film in its original aspect, but there are a few scenes/shots, especially towards the beginning, where there is some noticeable artifacting or lack of resolution in the video. Not terrible, but enough to warrant the four-star rating instead of five. Still a good buy. (This review pertains to the Special Collector's Edition DVD). Director Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) pulled a winning movie out of this almost self-consciously archetypal tale of teenage rock rebellion. Kevin Bacon stars as a hip city kid who ends up in a Bible-belt town after his parents divorce. An ill fit for a conservative community where rock is frowned upon and dancing is forbidden, Bacon's character rallies the kids and takes on the establishment. Between a good cast really embracing the drama of Dean Pitchford's screenplay, and Ross's imaginative, highly charged way of shooting the dance numbers, you can get lost in this all-ages confection, and you won't even mind Kenny Loggins's bubbly pop. Bonuses include one of John Lithgow's best performances (a bit reminiscent of Jimmy Stewart), and Christopher Penn (who sure doesn't look the same anymore) as a good-natured hick who learns to boogie.--Tom Keogh Rerations < Footloose [VHS] >

customer 's review (Back to The Future)
(This editions review (not of the movie, of the extras))
(Great Scott!)
(let's hope there's more to come!!)
(Just one extra disc and poor widescreen) I have Back To the Future Dvd(double disc,2nd disc with special features) I should have brought the trilogy but I got the special edition, However, I can't Complain, The Movie is awesome, I grew up to this movie as a child of the eighties, and is one of the best movies of the Era. On this release of the great BTTF movie, you get a 2 disc edition with extra features never released on DVD, nor even on the 4 disc region 4 release.
Obviously the movie is there, it was always good quality and great 5.1 sound on the rest of the editions, and nothing has changed for this one. Now included is a whole heap of new extras.
There is an Audio Commentary from Bob Gale and Niel Canton. It is an actual commentary now, not just the Q&A audio that played to the movie, or separately as audio depending on which edition you had, that other one is still on here, but this 2nd commentary is brand new, not a re-run.
As far as I can tell, all the extras from the other editions are still here. I own a heap of copies of different releases for this movie, and I get a little confused with what was on what; but I know the American fans will be pleased that extra deleted scenes that where only viewable on the region 4 bonus disc (4th disc) are now included in this release. In particular, the full version of the scene when Doc is asked if he has a permit, and Marty wonders if he will go home gay. It's a great and funny scene.
Also included is the footage of the back to the future ride that used to be at Universal Studios. I went on that ride in 1993, and it was great to see it again. It has two videos for the ride, the first one is the video you would watch while waiting in line for the ride. It's like a news cast and security camera video telling you about Doc's 1 day ride into the future (fictional) and the second video is what you actually saw when on the ride as you chase Biff Tannin through time. Just take not that the ride itself, you sat in a 6 seat Delorean and it moved and rocked around, so it may lose some translation while your sitting on your butt.
If your not particularly interested in bonus features at all, and just watch the thing for the movie, then there is no reason to pick this version up. If you are like me, and love anything you can find of BTTF, you will enjoy this one. It's not just another cash-in release, it does actually have brand new features to enjoy. In 1985, Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) asks Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a high school teenager, to meet him at the local mall for a late night science experiment. When Marty shows up, he sees Doc backing a Delorean out from a van. But this just isn't any Delorean. This Delorean has been modified into a time machine. As Doc begins to explain how it all works, a group of terrorists that Doc stole some uranium from, show up and begin to wreak havoc. Marty jumps in the car and floors it after witnessing Doc getting shot. But as soon as Marty hits the magic number of 88mph, he is shot back in time to 1955. While trying to figure out how to get back to 1985, he screws up the first time his parents meet, which begins the slow cycle of his brother, his sister, and even himself to slowly fade away from existence. Marty must figure out a way to get the time machine to work again and also somehow get his popular mom to fall in love with is geeky father so he can get back to the future.
Talk about a movie that just never gets old. Almost all the laughs are still funny. From the barn scene, to the first time Marty meets his mom as a teenager, to the skateboarding/poop scene. Back to the Future really is just a very fun movie. I think I was smiling almost through the whole thing and I've had to have seen this movie over 20 times by now. I think almost everyone has wished they could go back in time, but who really thinks about going back to hang with their parents. After seeing this movie, it might really be fun to do just that. We know Marty's mom preaches about how girls shouldn't chase guys and things, but when we see her at a younger age, she is doing exactly what she forbids her own children from doing. And when he comes across his dad, he finds out things that he never knew his dad was interested in. And then of course we have Doc Brown, who Christopher Lloyd played perfectly. His antics, and screams, facial expressions, and over the topness were done just right. What a great character. And Michael J. Fox also plays Marty McFly just right to. To think that Eric Stoltz almost played Marty McFly. Thankfully the director thought he just didn't fit the part and refilmed it with Fox.
Honestly, I could go on and on and on about this movie and just tell the whole story. But what fun would that be. Just own this movie.
P.S. - I love watching old 80's flicks and seeing all the stuff that was cool back then. Also I really like seeing old advertisements or signs. Like the Pepsi symbol back then. Classic stuff.
I've always been a "sucker" for packaging; with most things, it's kind of illogical, like groceries, that you (ideally) shouldn't even be looking at more than 6 (brief) times a day...but with entertainment items, I, for one, who values entertainment highly, think the packaging is important, b/c, face it: you're not gonna spend the majority of the time in which you own the item(s) actually USING them/it are you? Heck no! So that's where the pkging comes in handy, if you have your music/movies/books/whatever displayed prominently like I do and can/do look at them once in a while or more often... Sad to say though that sometime around 1997 or so, it seems, the packaging for movies has become EXTREMELY lame; I mean, for cryin' out loud, you can barely tell one movie apart from the next! You have to actually read the synopsis for each and every film that comes out in order to have ANY interest in it. But why would I, or anyone, read a synopsis for a movie that I'm not already interested in? Well, anyway; BTTF spent the longest time not available to purchase on its own, which to me was a drawback for buying ANY of the Back To The Future movies. I liked the imagery in BTTFpt1, the mall parking lot setting especially, and the 2nd one I actually haven't seen in ages, but the 3rd one, if I understand correctly, took place in the desert mostly, which is the most boring setting I can think of. I actually emailed Universal about 5 years ago, asking them when/if they re-release Halloween II and/or An American Tail to restore the original cover-art. Well, they apparently haven't even re-issued those two movies, but I guess we're finally starting to see eye to eye...well, I sorta doubt it, but I can dream can't I? I'm not very happy at this item.
First off, they say its wide screen. Well, instead of seeing what was cut off along the sides, they blew the original picture up so that it now cuts off what's on the top and bottoms.
There's no extra stuff on Disc 1, not even the Cigarette Commercial, and disc 2 is okay, but still this wasn't what I expected. Dr. Emmett Brown: Then tell me, "future boy," who is president in the United States in 1985? Marty McFly: Ronald Reagan. Dr. Brown: Ronald Reagan? The actor?! Who's vice president? Jerry Lewis?Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis topped his breakaway hitRomancing the Stonewith this joyous comedy with a dazzling hook: what would it be like to meet your parents in their youth? Billed as a special-effects comedy, the imaginative film (the top box-office smash of 1985) has staying power because of the heart behind Zemeckis and Bob Gale's script. High schooler Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox, during the height of his TV success) is catapulted back to the '50s where he sees his parents in their teens, and accidentally changes the history of how Mom and Dad met. Filled with the humorous ideology of the '50s, filtered through the knowledge of the '80s (actor Ronald Reagan is president, ha!), the film comes off as aTwilight Zoneepisode written by Preston Sturges. Filled with memorable effects and two wonderfully off-key, perfectly cast performances: Christopher Lloyd as the crazy scientist who builds the time machine (a DeLorean luxury car) and Crispin Glover as Marty's geeky dad. Followed by two sequels.--Doug Thomas Rerations < Back to the Future [VHS] >

(Tim Russert remembered) As the previous reviewer mentioned, I for the first time felt death of a public figure as a hearthelt personal loss. I watched this sepecial segment of the Charlie Rose Show on TV and decided to keep a copy. I thought I'd watch this DVD whenever I want to remind myself of the virtues of hard work, love, authenticity, and of how these things can make meaningful differences in our lives. Timothy John Russert (May 7, 1950 - June 13, 2008). This show is a tribute to the renowned broadcaster and journalist whose sudden death from a heart- attack shocked and saddened people all over America. The show consists in an interview with Russert's close - friend the journalist Al Hunt, a number of excerpts from Russert's twelve appearances on the 'Charlie Rose ' show and a closing especially moving tribute by Charlie Rose for his colleague and good friend. Russert was a much- loved figure not only because of his dedication and professional skill in hosting 'Meet the Press',but also because he was a warm, ethical, principled patriotic American. The work he was most proud of was the memoir he wrote about his father, Big Russ, whose values Russert learned from and lived by. The conversations with Charlie Rose reveal Russert as a man of sense, decency good humor and good will. His love for politics and his love for his family were the center of his life. This is a case where for many the loss of a public figure is felt as a personal loss. An appreciation of Tim Russert with fellow journalist and friend Al Hunt. Russert died of an apparent heart attack while recording a voiceover for Meet the Press in Washington, D.C. on June 13, 2008. He had just returned from family vacation in Italy, which celebrated his son's graduation. This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. (Informative, but Depressing) I bought this hoping to use it as a resource before our group goes to Pine Ridge next summer - but I'm not going to use it. It is too technical in some areas and not precise enough in others. The production value is not what I expected with such a name as Sam Donaldson attached. There are plenty of other resources, including Ken Burns' The West, and the HBO movie Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. I learned much more about the Dawes Act and other atrocities in that movie than this documentary. Also check out the movie Smoke Signals. It's important that humankind never forget the tragedies of slavery, concentration camps, and New World genocide. However, that doesn't make them easy topics to digest. For example, I'd like to see Liam Neesom nude but not if that means watching the inhumanity displayed in "Schindler's List." The same catch-22 happens here. It's important for people in the new millennium to know that Native Americans have been and continue to be dispossessed. However, it won't make you day to see or hear 80 minutes of a discussion on the topic.
This documentary had diverse speakers: female and male, Native and non-Native. However, I don't think Sam Donaldson did a strong job in directing this work. One interviewee is a law professor, yet two of his front teeth look melted together and the large tooth had a big, nasty cavity on it. I'm sure a dentist could hook him up and that he can afford it.
I took a Federal Indian Law course and it was far from a piece of cake. This documentary focuses on the laws that ripped land away from Native Americans. Students in that course may benefit from seeing this. I'm not sure if this work would be too legalistic for others, but it does attempt at being user-friendly. (I'd Give it a 0 If I Could!!!)
(great movie)
(Pretty Good)
(Kids love it on D-Channel -- hard to find as rental...) This is one of my favorite movies! It has a wonderful cast and great characters! Tyler, the mean big brother, is played by my favorite movie star, James Marsden! He has so much talent! The plot of the movie is good and there are many funny jokes! It's a great family film! Its even better when you watch it and then watch 27 Dresses! Then you see how James has gone up in his acting career! I say every family should watch this movie! It's a classic! My family and I were expecting a good nice clasical movie but after seeing the first 9 minutes we just had to turn it of. You saw this little girl watching TV and in it was a monster that was eating people. Blood was everywhere and it was disgusting. I had to run out of the room to get a breath of fresh air. I thought that it might get better but when I came back I saw this big boy pushing his little brother around. This was not a normal boys fight, it was definetly violent. Then, my parents put a stop to it. We didn't even see the rest of the movie. I'd definetely not reccommend this movie to anyone. So, people, don't waste your money and time on this movie. hey this is a pretty good movie i recorded this from the disney channel in about 1998 trust me dawg if i liked it yawl will like it This movie is definitely a good kid's movie. The kids learn how to manipulate their parents to get everything they want, including getting rid of their evil big brother, Tyler. The characters are pretty well played, especially the part of the big brother, James Marsden, as Tyler. I remember I used to cringe, because he's almost too believable. He plays the evil part really well. If you're under thirteen, this movie is a very good way to fill the afternoon. The Cochran kids have figured out how to control their parents -- even get them to send evil older brother to boarding school. Nice fantasy. Rerations < No Dessert Dad 'Til You Mow The Lawn >

(IIf You Liked The Last 8 Years You Would Love A McCain Presidency.)
(Meticulously researched, engagingly presented critique.)
(BUSH III ALL OVER AGAIN)
(Good Summary!) Although the election is now over (thank you, baby jesus), this book strongly reminds us why another term of W. ideals is anything but ideal. With pictures and fake news clippings, it's a great book for all ages! yay Third Term Paul Begala This book begins with the 2000 Republican Presidential primary and the incredible smears by the Bush campaign against the McCain campaign and their total lack of truth. Amazingly it go on to say how after only a short cooling off period McCain completely embraces George W. Bush and his policies. By comparing words and deeds Begala makes a very good case why if you liked the last 8 years you would love a McCain Presidency.
Paul Begala makes the case with research, not rancor, that Senator McCain's record, rhetoric and proposals promise a continuation, not a break from, the Bush Administration's economic, social, deregulatory, military and foreign polices. He avoids the common pitfalls of such political accounts: this is neither the dry scorecard of a policy "insider," nor the zingy yet unsubstantiated riposte of the "pundit." Rather, it is a mature, concise, specific accounting of Republican policies, John McCain's support for them, and their devastating effects on the nation. It should have been "must" reading for undecided voters. First Papa Bush Then Baby Bush Now here comes little minny-me Bush
How else has more faithfully voted the Bush line all of these yeares. Meticulously researched with thirty pages of footnotes to back things up, Begala gives us the best thing to consider in the coming week before the elections (or re-selections).
And you will love reading it, far more than you'll love a GOP win. McCain promises us endless warfare. How long before he brings it home?
Read this book. Vote for Hope, audaciously.
This is not the only book out now with a cover showing these two old white guys swapping sweaty hugs. See The Real McCain: Why Conservatives Don't Trust Him and Why Independents Shouldn't's cover too! Who said he hates Bush? These two are joined at the hip! "The biggest myth of Campaign 2008 is that John McCain is fundamentally different from George Bush" - so opens Paul Begala in "Third Term." His purpose in writing the book is to explode that myth. It is not, however, a book that emulates the Swift Boat Veterans' lies about John Kerry with lies about John McCain.
Begala goes on to point out the remarkable personal similarities between Bush and McCain. Both were the first-born of American dynasties, partied through elite educations, and have large "unearned" fortunes. Both displayed general ignorance on Iraq - both prior to and after the invasion. Both are stubborn, see the world in black and white, take a "my-way-or-the-highway" approach, and attack the motives of those who disagree. Both are intellectually incurious on domestic issues (Bush on everything else as well), both have a hot temper, and both declared "the fundamentals of the economy" are strong - just before the great credit collapse.
McCain has voted with Bush 91% of the time, though flip-flopped on abortion, the mortgage crisis, gay marriage, Bush tax cuts, and estate tax repeal.
Finally, Begala points out that earmarks are a trivial issue for McCain to focus on, and that he supports privatization of Social Security, cuts to Medicaid and Medicare. As for "Change" - McCain has 134 lobbyists on staff or raising money for his campaign. For Democrats, Independents, and the majority of Republicans who are fed up with the GOP, a handbook for the most important election in our lifetime. With the indispensable chapters: The John McCain Quiz and Things John McCain is Older Than.In details that will surprise even close followers of the political scene, veteran political strategist Paul Begala thoroughly makes the case that John McCain would be a third term for George W. Bush. He explodes the myth that John McCain is a maverick, and proves powerfully that he's just four more years of the same old thing. Rerations < Third Term: Why George W. (On Tragedy and Spiritual Triumph)
(Amazing story, very readable, too!)
(Amazing Story)
(Hope, Healing and Practical Help) This is a heart-wrenching account of the lives lost on April 16, 2007. This tragedy will never leave me, but neither will Lauren McCain's words. Her faith, evident through her journal entries, her words of praise and her love for God have touched me so strongly that I think of her and her words of praise daily. She lived her life so deeply for someone so young and she will continue to witness to others through this book and inspire others as she has truly inspired me. She is a true child of God.
Using the story and journals of VT freshman Lauren McCain, whose love for Christ emanates from her like a sweet fragrance, combined with other witness testimony and police accounts, Lueders explores the events of the Virginia Tech tragedy and tackles tough issues like God's presence in tragedy and whether forgiveness is necessary and possible.
This is not the first tragedy where someone was asked "Where was God?" or suggested vengeance and blame were more probable reactions than forgiveness. The book covers well the accuracy of understanding God is with us even in the midst of the fallout from the evil humans choose to enact. As for forgiveness, it examples and guides a truth I have learned to live long ago and wish more people knew - with Jesus Christ in your life, true forgiveness is possible and life can go forward.
The best parts of the book are taken from Lauren's journals, her myspace page, and statements from friends and family which show Lauren not as a victim of violence, but a victorious inheritor of Heaven. The book gives you permission to grieve, and power to know what a difference God really does make when the relationship is real.
Some stories stay with you. This is one. You'll find yourself thinking of it long after you put it down, and you'll be happy you spent the time doing it! I started reading this book last night and just could not put it down.
What an amazing story and what a special young lady Lauren McCain must have been. His story is an absolute inspiration and her parents ae very special as well. While interviewing the author Pat Robertson said, "People asked, 'Where was God when this happened?' He was right there." And that point is made throughout this book. Award-winning journalist and author Beth Lueders brings her years of experience to bear in crafting a book that not only tells about a tragedy and its aftermath, but challenges us all to "lift our eyes" and see the good that can come from even the worst mass-murder in U.S. history.
Besides the well-written story, the book includes a comprehensive appendix with tips on how to help or receive help--both from a biblical and psychological point of view--when trauma invades our comfortable world. On an unforgettable April morning, Viriginia Tech student Lauren McCain lost her life, along with thirty-one others, at the hands of a gunman in the largest mass murder in modern U.S. history. But what could not be destroyed was Lauren's unyielding faith and spirit, which live on in the memories of those who knew and loved her.
In the tradition of the bestsellingShe Said YesandRachel's Tears, journalist Beth J. Lueders tells the extraordinary story of this historic tragic event, and more importantly, its aftermath as survivors struggle to make sense of it, to cope, and to keep their faith stronger than ever before. customer 's review (Wrong item sent to me) I can't really rate this item, because unfortunately I never received my President Obama shirt.
