Of the seven reviews here then, one hinted at it, but all had various issues.
Thankfully I don't share those problems. The timer on mine is exact to the second, per including a timer in a time lapse video. (Search YouTube for RJFerret, the Melting Ice Cubes Comparison shows a timer in the background so you may see for yourself.)
So I am very happy with the GardenWatchCam. It does more than it advertises!
Another reviewer couldn't hear the beeps the unit produces, let me tell you hearing them doesn't help. It gives two beeps when it's turned on as well as the same two beeps when it's turned off. So they are useless. You have to look at the green light (hard to see in daylight) to see that it's on. This light also blinks every 15 seconds and when your unit takes a picture.
Speaking of which, as another reviewer pointed out, it does not store individual picture files, it only produces an AVI file. If you want to composite a picture series you'll need to export frames from the video with other software. However this is FAR more desirable than producing thousands of picture files you'd need to assemble into a video.
There is no way to turn off the time/date stamp at the bottom, so you have to use software to crop the bottom 16 lines. Also it produces a video file that is set to 10 fps instead of the more usual 30 fps. I needed to find/download the (thankfully free) software program VirtualDub to crop and convert the video.
Someone complained that there wasn't much instruction for the included software. Well it simply has six entry fields. Two for time/date, three cover the interval (by hours/minutes/seconds), and the last is for which drive letter your system assigned to the USB flash drive. Only two buttons, OK or Cancel.
Unlike another, I found the manual to be good, the first two pages both explain and show how to assemble the pole, which is self explanatory, just stick it together! Heh... It also explains the lens setting, with exact details of the macro setting, again, obvious to anyone who has used a camera before.
Page seven covers operation, turning on/off, explaining the beeps and indicator lights (low battery and memory card full).
The final two pages cover installing the software (put in your CD and click install--there are no custom options even if you select expert install) and using the software (insert USB drive, note which letter it is assigned by your computer, choose time/date/period and click OK).
There are four things I would change, move the LEDs to the side of the unit so you can see them from front or back, ability to turn off the time/date stamp, make movies at 30 fps and provide a viewfinder. I mounted another camera in place to align my composition, then compensated for the height of the GardenWatchCam's lens.
All in all, considering the value you get for the money, weather resistant, customizable time, video output (many other time lapse cameras require software to combine the thousands of photographs into a movie), easy to use, I am very pleased with my purchase and glad this produce is available.
It simply does what you want it to do, the extras are all secondary to that main function.

(Software Needs Work, Manual is Vague at Best) 『I received this as a gift. The instruction manual is vague at best and confusing at worst. Yet there is no way around it.
First, you must listen to beeps which are so inaudible as to be non-existent. The beeps tell you whether it is on of off. The problem is it is the same two beeps so you never know if you turned it on or turned it off. Thus you set it out and pray it is on. The only cure is to remove the batteries between each use and then restart listening carefully for the beeps.
Second the software apparently sets the time and sequencing on the memory chip. It worked once but I have problems the second time. It is not clear if you have to set time and recording data every time, and the instructions are no help at all.
Third, I managed one set of pictures and the quality was good. To process the data you will need an upgraded version of a video system. I have not gone that far yet. What is missing is the ability to just pull out the frames one at a time. You get video and that is all. It would be nice to get frame by frame, I think I can do that with some other software I have but it will require some tricks.
This is potentially a nice product but their design factors for human interface is one of the worst I have ever seen. The instructions are incomprehensible and the interface prompts are confusing and misleading. Hopefully someone is listening at the company and fix this on the second round. It has potential if only they understood that they had a customer out there.』

(Great way to brush up or learn to line dance) 『I've only been line dancing for a couple of months and I'm having a blast. I take 2 classes a week, so I'm going at a pretty good pace. I bought his DVD's so I could work on dancing on the days when I'm not taking a class. And most of these (not all) are already a review for me. BUT I must say that some of his explainations for some of the steps involved are MUCH better than I've heard before. He gives great instructions and shows more than once how to do the dance. I love ethe picture in a picture in the lessons. I only wish I could take some real lessons from him, I bet that would be a blast! Now as far as the music goes, some folks will be dissapointed that he doesn't actually use the music that one would normally use to dance the dances he teaches. I'm going to make a wild guess and say that it would be very expensive for him to get a license for each of the dances and would make the cost of the DVD go way up. I can live with the music he provides. I do wish that he'd make a point of telling us on each dance what music is usually used for that dance, he did that a time or two, but I don't think with each dance. I would recommend his DVD's to anyone, I think that anyone could pop this DVD into their player and be dancing before more than an hour was up! He'a a good teacher for sure.』

I was very excited to get this instructional video in order to "brush up" on line dances I haven't done in about 15 years. However, I quickly became disappointed.
Pros: The pros are that Shawn is a great instructor and goes through the steps in such a way that even slow learners (with a poor memory for dance steps) can easily follow and quickly incorporate. Great views and great repetition without becoming annoyingly slow.
Cons (AND FOR ME THIS WAS HUGE): I very much expected to DO the line dance, with the ACTUAL music used for each line dance, as soon as the instruction was completed. Instead, Shawn goes through the instruction of each and does not allow a long enough time for practice. I was hoping at the end of each set of instructions he (and maybe others) would actually be doing the dance to a SONG. Then, I would be able to rewind the DVD to the beginning of each song and practice the dance as many times as I needed to until it became ingrained in my memory. No such luck. This video provides the drills needed to improve swimming efficiency. The first drill is to learn to swim in a straight path with the body in a streamlined relaxed horizontal position. Subsequent lessons show how to swim in a rotated position (right side down or left side down), and breath while maintaining a straight horizontal position. He focuses on the recovery and entry phases of the stroke, and the synchronization of body roll with arm entry. Initially swimming is very slow; ultimately the goal is to increase the stroke rate gradually while always maintaining correct form. The quality of the videos is excellent, and all drills are clearly displayed.
There are some swimming efficiencies that are not emphasized. The video does not describe how to achieve a good catch position. The video also does describe how to time relative movement of both arms to maintain continuous propulsive motion through the water; the drills suggest a rotate to one side, stroke and glide, then rotate to the other side, stroke, and glide method. This initial swimming style is less efficient, and more difficult for me as it requires a longer time between breaths than a faster more continuous propulsive style of swimming; I expect that as stroke rate increases with a briefer recovery phase, a more continuous propulsive swimming occurs. A very useful addition would be to give the swimmer clues that a solitary swimmer can use to determine when swimming form is incorrect.
Overall, a great DVD that improved my swimming, and is likely to improve the swimming of most swimmers as well.』

It would be easier with an instructor (naturally)it is not always possible to know if you are doing the strokes correctly and it takes a lot of practice which I have not mastered yet as I still train 3 times a week and its easy to slip back into old habits. It will take discipline to get this but I have seen people who have mastered the skill and it is amazing to watch.』

However, it is interesting to read the effusive reviews lauding this on par with an Australian Gone With The Wind. It's not even close. It does have the verboten theme concerning a Catholic Priest who is tormented with guilt,lust,love,etc., now standard stuff which was pretty shocking when the book first came out, but, considering the goings-on in the church now, tame by comparison. Richard Chamberlain tends to go a little over the top in his portrayal of Ralph De Bricassart, his love scenes are rather laughable. Rachel Ward is absolutely unbelievable as Meggie Cleary. An actress she defintely is NOT! I read somewhere that her acting was so bad at times while making this series that Richard Chamberlain used to bang his head against a wall in frustration. Barbara Stanwyck, of course, is always terrific in anything she does. She extends a tremendously moving performance as the aging doyenne of Drogheda, lusting for Ralph. She is, really, the only reason to watch. The rest of the actors, in particular Jean Simmons and Richard Kiley, are excellent in their characterizations; however, although it has the scope and depth of an epic,it is still just a tremendously overblown chick flick.』

How good-looking is the DVD restoration of Disney's popular animated film? Take a look at the serviceable but dull film clips incorporated in the plethora of extras and compare them to the vivid gorgeousness of the film presentation. This "special edition" also adds a 90-second song ("Morning Report") that originated in the lavish stage musical. To Disney's credit, the original theatrical version is also included, both restored and featuring two 5.1 soundtracks: Dolby Digital and a new Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix, which does sound brighter. As with the Disney Platinum line, everything is thrown into the discs, except an outsider's voice (the rah-rahs of Disney grow tiresome at times). The excellent commentary from the directors and producer, originally on the laser disc, is hidden under the audio set-up menu.
The second disc is organized by 20-minute-ish "journeys" tackling the elements of story, music, et cetera, including good background on the awkward Shakespearean origins at Disney where it was referred as "Bamlet." The most interesting journey follows the landmark stage production, and the kids should be transfixed by shots of the real African wildlife in the animal journey. Three deleted segments are real curios, including an opening lyric for "Hakuna Matata." Most set-top DVD games are usually pretty thin (DVD-ROM is where it's at), but the Safari game is an exception--the kids should love the roaring animals (in 5.1 Surround, no less). The 18-105mm is my default for indoor, group, and closeup shots. It has a very flexible range from wide angle to '5x' zoom. The 300mm is great for sporting events or long shots (over 20 feet). It really pull the subject in close.
PROS: The pictures are excellent! The D90 is great with portraits, action shots, and good at video. How many video cameras have a 300mm zoom? I took over 2,500 pictures during a two night play and got some great shots with the 300mm on a monopod. The 4.5 frames/second burst mode really helps when people are moving around. The 8GB card will hold over 2,000 shots. I can shoot all day with one battery, but it's always best to have a spare.
CONS: The 300mm lens is not a VR (vibration Reduction) lens, which helps stabilize the image. In video mode, the image is only displayed on the LCD screen. In full sunlight that can be a problem due to glare on the screen. It doesn't always keep it's focus in video mode either. But your buying it for the still pictures.
Everything will fit in the included camera bag with room for another lens.』

If you are going to buy a high-power zoom lens like a 70-300mm, having image stabilization built into that lens is pretty critical. At the high magnification factors, any little shake or movement is going to be very difficult to overcome, no matter how steady you are. The D90 itself has image stabilization built in, but the D90 image stabilization alone is not going to be enough to overcome vibration on a handheld camera with a 300mm zoom.
You will note that the standard 18 - 105mm lens in this package is from Nikon's (Nikkor) VR line, and by definition the VR line has the built-in electronic image stabilization. But the 70 - 300mm lens -- the one that REALLY could benefit from image stabilization -- is not a "VR" lens and does NOT have built-in image stabilization -- I just called the vendor and they readily confirmed that this is the case, and they further commented that a package including a 70-300mm VR lens would add "$400 to $450 to the package price".
Again, there is nothing wrong with this camera package, and this is an excellent vendor. Just be sure you go into the purchase knowing what you are getting. 』

(Excellent,... but not without it's problems.) 『Like a lot of Trek fans I grew up watching the original series and wanting a phaser of my very own. Over the years there have been many available props from varying sources, with very mixed results. I myself am a prop fanatic, and while The DST Phaser is very nice, it's far from perfect. It not only has aesthetic inaccuracies, but flaws in it's design that do effect it's functionality.
When I first received mine I was amazed at how light it was. Every other phaser prop I've held has always had a solid construction with a bit of heft to them, usually due to the batteries in the handle, giving them a realistic feel. This thing feels cheap in your hands, lightweight but top heavy and overall fragile... When shaken ever so slightly, the loose buttons and knobs make it sound like a baby rattle. When I pulled the trigger, the sound was low and dull, with the flashing red nozzle getting on my nerves. The locking mechanism for the Phaser I doesn't really lock it into place. So it can be easily pulled off with a slight bit of pressure.
I really had a hard time taking this item seriously at fist, and after hearing the glowing praise for it, was a bit underwhelmed.
Those were my fist impressions of the phaser, which changed after some time playing with it. I came to terms that this isn't the studio prop recreation I've always hoped for, and is in fact - A TOY. Eventually I did find a few things by going back and reading the instructions... The setting dial on my P1, which I thought was static, actually did turn. But mine was stuck in place. Pushing it really hard snapped it into the next positions, which eventually revealed the classic phaser sound everyone knows. Why the packaged phasers aren't set to this one by default puzzles me, but the dial now turns much more easily. Secondly, I was always too afraid to touch the knob on the back of the phaser II housing. Just looking at it, you can see the spindly peg that holds it in place, rather loosely I might add... It looks like a weak point that I'm sure will break with enough play, but does work to give us that nice overload sound.
This made me much more comfortable with it's TOY status... for the price, it's really nice. No other toy has ever come even close to this in terms of quality for cost, and I'm sure that we won't ever see anything this nice again.
But I was looking for more than a cheap feeling, but nice looking toy, and so, as I've done with almost everything I've ever owned... I started taking it apart.
First off, there is one defect that is completely the fault of the manufacturers. It should have been caught and fixed, but due to someone being asleep at the wheel, made it through to production. The battery compartment on the Phaser I has been molded in a way, that makes it impossible to completely close it, while there are batteries inside. Three squares molded on the inside of the cover, keep it from being screwed in all the way. As such, the phaser I does not sit in the cradle of the Phaser II properly. This is why the locking mechanism doesn't work. I was able to repair this by grinding down the inside of the cover to remove the excess plastic. It now sits flush with the Phaser II, eliminating the gap, and firmly locking into place. It is now impossible (beyond breaking it) to remove the P1 without pushing the release pin forward.
This is something I should not have had to do, and will not be easily fixable for a lot of people.
So, after having fixed the battery compartment, my major gripe is all the loose parts. After being dubbed "trekkies first rattle" by me and my friends, I went about isolating all of the major culprits of this. the loose deflector grid and dial, the P2 setting knob, release pin, the side knob and bezel ring which control the light. All of these things rattle rather obnoxiously in your hand.
The setting knob on the back of the phaser has two problems... it's loose, and has a weak pin. This could have been solved with a ridge around the pin that would keep it from moving back and forth. I created my own by cutting off one of the rings from the twist tie holders that originally held it inside the box. After splitting it in two and sanding it down a bit, it slid the 2 disc sections into place, a drop of glue, and now the knob has the support needed to keep it from snapping off, and the friction to keep it from rattling.
Similar efforts can be used on the other rattling parts of the P2... A bit of extra plastic to increase the friction prevents it from rattling around.
The P1 needs to be opened and have the hinges on the dial and deflector grid tightened to prevent them from rattling. I did this with a tiny bit of electrical tape around the pegs.
After doing this, it greatly altered my feel toward the piece. It's feels solid now, less cheap and prone to breakage. It still doesn't fix several of the aesthetic issues, but stops it from feeling like a toy, and more of a licensed prop.』

Type 1 phaser removes from the type 2 phaser pistol! Pull out the gold-bronze colored pin gently to release the type 1 phaser.
The type 2 phaser has a few knobs and buttons as well. The trigger is obvious. There is a knob just above the trigger which lets you turn the LED light on or off. The overload switch is on the top back of the type 2. Turn the knob so it clicks and press the trigger. The beam emmiter has a turning diam that lets you adjust the brightness on the type 2 phaser.
The type 1 has a rubber trigger on the bottom. The dial on the left will flip up the silver grid. Do this and you will get better sound. The dial on the right will change the settings. You have to turn this dial when the type 1 is attatched or seperate from the type 2 to change sound effects.
My only complaints are very minor. 1. Sound is a bit too soft. 2. Pull the trigger to far or twist the overload dial too far and the type 1 will pop off. This is because of the loose pin. 3. Why not use AAA batteries? It uses LR44/AG13 batteries.

You fat lard!, Flippin' sweeet!, etc.) No audio, just text to read. I played 4 of the mini-games (this title seems to be all mini-games), and none of them utilized the touch screen. One was a football throwing contest against uncle Rico, one was throwing food at a spitting llama, next was riding a unicorn while shooting at rocket-powered flying cows, and the other was practicing dance moves to the Z-kwon dance video. The graphics are average, and evoke a feeling of Southpark, as everything is very cut 'n paste. The audio is terrible and features the most repetitive music you've ever heard.
As I stated, the game is mildly fun. Maybe younger kids will like it, but I found it to be very repetitive and overall not very interesting.
