(Great idea)
(Transformers Wall Stickers) They are great. I think the biggest one is 12 inches. The only problem I have with thee is the fact that it is alot of gray in the coloring of the transformers... so your walls look kind of dull... if they are white. My suggestion don't get these unless you have a color on your walls other than white. These were a gift for my 6 year old son. We recently added on to our house and I really didn't want to put any holes in the walls or mess up the new paint, but I did want my son to be able to decorate his new room. I found these and thought I would take my chances and try them. These worked out great. We have had these for about a month and you can still peel them off and reapply them. They haven't messed up the walls at all and my son has a great time rearranging his room every once in a while. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because with some of the bigger ones or any that have a small piece like a foot or a hand you have to be careful peeling them off or they rip. I have just told my son to let me help him peel them and as long as you peel slowly they do not rip. Otherwise this is a wonderful idea for any room. My 12 year old son loves these stickers. They are much bigger than alot of the other wall stickers we have seen. They are easily stuck to the wall and if they need to be moved they restick with no problem. Transformers Decorative Wall Stickers (20 + wall stickers) . Self-stick, removable, and reusable Jumbo Wall Stickers are the easy way to decorate and won't damage your walls!
It's so quick and amazing , just peel and stick!
Jumbo Size: 4 sheets , each 18" X 8" , 24 stickers.
Stickers sizes vary from 5" to 12" tall.Decorate in minutes!!
Easy to apply.
Works best on clean, smoth, dust-free surfaces. Apply even pressure to entire stiker surface.

customer 's review (Great condition) The poster is lovely and the seller was very prompt with the shipping! Would recommend to other buyers. This poster shows the black and white picture of a sailor kissing a nurse on the street. At the bottom it says "Kissing on VE Day, Times Square NYC". This poster measures approx. 24" x 36" One of the most famous photographs ever published by Life Magazine was shot in Times Square on V-J Day, taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt. Some dozen ex-sailors have claimed to be the amorous seaman and at least two other former nurses have identified themselves as his partner. Life accepted nurse Edith Cullen Shain's claim to this honor. Rerations < Kissing On VJ Day (Sailor&Nurse) Art Poster Print - 24" X 36" >

customer 's review (No Spanish on this DVD)
(Perfect)
(kids songs)
(Great DVD)
(What a great learning tool for toddlers) The DVD is just fine. However, I gave this product 2 stars because I bought it specifically because it lists Spanish under the language, as well as English. I am trying to teach my daughter Spanish, and I chose this DVD specifically for that reason. There is no Spanish language version on this DVD. So, if you are considering it for that reason, then do not buy it. Otherwise, it is a fine Sesame Street video. This DVD, along with Kid's Favorite Country Songs, are so entertaining to my son (20 months) when he's awake and upbeat. If you're looking for something a little more relaxing, say before nap or bedtime, or when the kids are a bit cranky after a long day - try Sleepytime Songs and Stories - also a winner. My daughter loves this video. It keeps her entertained when I am trying to make supper. Our 15 month old loves this DVD. The songs are ones that he recognizes and it's a bonus that it has a plot and lots of counting backwards from 10 to 1. He dances to the songs- especially 'I've been Working on the Railroad' and 'This Old Bat'. This DVD is great for my toddler. She loves the characters and gets the opportunity to learn a lot through the songs, the actions and the children who are featured in the DVD. She can watch this all day and I needn't be worried about the content getting into her head. It's made for children and its a wonderful way to watch, listen and learn. It's fun for the adults too!! Kids' Favorite Songskicks off with a cackle-worthy parody of Bob Dylan doing "Old McDonald," and from there the groovy gags keep comin' 'round the mountain. Everywhere Elmo turns on Sesame Street monsters spontaneously burst into song, and all because they want him to feature their favorite tunes on his forthcoming radio countdown. For Telly, winnowing the hits to one is akin to Cookie Monster choosing between a macaroon and a figgie bar: at first he's sure that "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" lights his fire, but then he says bye-bye to a black sheep. The street heaves a collective sigh pavementward when word comes down that the countdown is strictly a numbers gig, no music involved. Only Sesame Street could weave well-loved musical numbers around a simple numbers lesson with such wacky pizzazz, making this a countdown that's no letdown for high-spirited parent-preschooler combos.--Tammy La Gorce Studio: Genius Products Inc Release Date: 04/06/2004 Run time: 30 minutes Rating: Nr Rerations < Sesame Street - Kids' Favorite Songs >

(Good Overview and Very Informative)
(great!)
(Don't waste your money) I thought this video was excellent, informative, and convenient. I have friends who attended live birthing classes and paid $150.00 for them who said they learned nothing. I paid about $20.00, watched it in the comfort of my own home at my convenience, and learned a great deal. I am due in 10 days so I hope I will still feel them same afterward, but I think I will. Highly recommended especially for first time moms or for parents who have had a lot of time between the last baby and this one. What a great DVD, this helped us out so much, we both work crazy schedules and have little or no time to go to Lamaz class. This is a great support tool for the birth process and to easy the troubled minds of first time parents.. Easy to watch and easy to follow.. I really enjoyed this DVD, it provided good content at a nice pace. I highly recommend this DVD. this is just PERFECT... she says everything... we NEED to know... i wish i knew about this DVD 7 years ago, for my first child!!! She is very precise, very funny... and you learn a lot! do not hesitate! it is PLUS! thank you! I did not enjoy this video or find it informative. I thought the video was very boring and only watched half of it before I tossed it. Also, I bought this because I was having my first child and didn't know what to expect during labor but once you go into labor the nurses tell you everything to do so the video was a total waste. Also, the lady on the video is very annoying. I felt embarrassed for her. 'Laugh and Learn About Childbirth', America's # 1 Childbirth Class, is the first video in a series of educational classes for pregnant couples, and the only comprehensive childbirth course on the market. This new 2 DVD-Set is completely updated. All aspects of labor and delivery are covered, including pain relieving options, the entire Lamaze training with one breathing technique and natural childbirth, and for the first time everything you need to know about Cord Blood Banking. Like the other two video classes in this series, 'Laugh and Learn About Breastfeeding' and 'Laugh and Learn About Newborn Baby Care', 'Laugh and Learn About Childbirth' is also a fun and entertaining way to learn everything you need to know to have a pleasant pregnancy, labor and delivery. The classes are taught by award winning childbirth expert Sheri Bayles, RN, in six easy lessons, perfect for watching at your own pace in the comfort and convenience of your own home. In addition to the regular Childbirth Class, the producers added a Reunion with Sheri, the couples from this class and their new babies. Including in this DVD set is also a Special Feature containing vital information about Cord Blood Banking. Rerations < Laugh and Learn About Childbirth >

(The Best of Elmo's World)
(great for the price)
(Good Choice) Bought this for my nephews birthday, he just loves Elmo and it seems that this collection covers alot of things. Hope he enjoys this gift. I purchased this for my one year old nephew's birthday. He and his older brother love elmo. You get three dvd's for a little over $20! What a bargain! They adore Elmo and love the dvd's. Occording to my sister in law, this is what they want to watch most of the time. Great value for the money! My son is absolutely entertained by this set of Elmo's World DVD's. His favorite being Elmo's Birthday. If your child loves Elmo, then they should love this set of DVD's. We had several Elmo's world videos and my daughter was quite fascinated with them. I watched them with her and I liked what was taught and in the way they did it as it keept her attention and excitement for longer than I thought possible, teaching always good things. Looking for other videos like those I could not believe I found this set of 3 for the price of one. I am really pleased with them and she also enjoys being able to decide which one she wants to watch that day. She only watches tv for a short time a day, so I'm happy to have found something like this that both of us are happy with. We own 6 Elmo's World DVDs, and none have turned out to be something the kids don't like. This collection is no exception. The boxed set makes it a great deal.
One of these has "Games." On Games, both Mr. Noodles are together. My son finds this absolutely hilarious. Movie DVD Rerations < Best of Elmo's World DVD Collection >

customer 's review (SCARLETT AND RHETT FINALLY REALIZE THEIR TRUE FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER!)
(Not for GWTW fans!!)
(Scarletr DVD)
(Correction)
(Totally dissapointed) I loved this movie! It has the same names as GWTW, but with different new faces, and a whole new story, I loved it! GWTW is in a class by itself, but this is a very good story also! There is a cast of outstanding actors in this movie, and the story line is very good it takes you places, that you thought Scarlett would never end up being a part of! I also loved Timothy Dalton as Rhett, he is so dashing, and rakish, and handsome, and he has those classic, movie star looks, and I just loved his mustache!
Scarlett helps Ashley and his business, over a promise she made to Melanie, and she finally realizes what her true feelings for Ashley really are! Scarlett tries to win Rhett back, and he of course is resisting, and Scarlett tries to make amends with her sister, who got mad at Scarlett over marrying her beau Frank Kennedy! And Scarlett gets to meet her father's O'Hara kin, and Scarlett also gets to meet her mother's very rich father, and Scarlett even meets Rhett's mother, and the Charleston society!
Scarlett and Rhett end up getting together, after a boating accident, and then she finds out that Rhett has left her again, and she then finds out that she is going to have his baby! So she flees to Ireland, and builds a new life for herself, and guess who she meets in Ireland, someone from her past that she thought she'd never see again, Rhett and his new wife!
You would never believe all the trouble Scarlett gets herself into! And Rhett comes to her rescue! This movie keeps you going, you never know what is going to happen next! I enjoyed it! And I highly recommend it! I have read both the original GWTW as well as Alexandria Ripley's, Scarlett, watched both movies and listened to the book on tape of "Scarlett" and while I think it is an ok follow-up not for the die hard GWTW fans!! We know what her personality was supposed to be, what Margaret Mitchell intended her to be. I think she was playing to be helpless but she really wasn't helpless. You also cannot simply follow Vivian Leigh or Clark Gable. Joanne Whaley-Kilmer and Timothy Dalton acting was ok, but just ok. It was ok for a made for tv movie wrote like a soap opera, but not for a follow up to GWTW. It would have been better to not have been made like making a sequel to "The Wizard of Oz", just can't be done. I think Marageret Mitchell would have been mortified or as in her words, it would have given her the "vapors'! I have been looking for this DVD for months. I finally found it thanks to amazon. Arrived in a timely manner and it excellent condition. Thanks, Robert Locurto I absolutely love this movie, despite it being off from the book. To "Windie", Vivian Leigh (the original movie's Scarlett) was British. Ok so I knew this wouldn't be anywhere near as good as 'Gone With The Wind' but wow, they just totally changed personalities and everything. But that's not the worst of it!! The dvd itself wouldn't play right, it would skip and the picture would flicker and scramble. I didn't really enjoy it at all. This soapy but highly watchable television "sequel" toGone with the Wind, the most popular Hollywood movie ever made, has nothing to do with memories of a vanished antebellum South. But it does end up in Ireland, where the determined Scarlett O'Hara Butler (played with frosty passion by Joanne Whalley-Kilmer) turns hard times into an opportunity by buying the ancestral home of her family. Before that happens, however, Scarlett fights to win back the estranged Rhett Butler (manfully portrayed by Timothy Dalton), often seen in the company of other women, struggles for control over the homestead Tara, and gets caught in yet another compromising position with poor Ashley Wilkes (Stephen Collins). The troubles never stop (Scarlett's Ireland adventures land her in a heap of trouble from which only Rhett can save her), but this TV miniseries wisely keeps the focus on these captivating characters, their entangled histories, and the collective destiny that refuses to part them. The show also looks good: the location scenes in Ireland are particularly handsome, and there is something unaccountably satisfying about seeing Scarlett and Rhett walking through peaceful green hills. Enjoy.--Tom Keogh Rerations < Scarlett (Special Collector's Editon) [VHS] >

(Step Aerobics)
(coordination needed)
(It Works Because It's Fun)
(Love It!) What a blast working out with this exercise video!! I started out falling off the step and glaring at the men and women who were leading the aeorbic exercise (because I wasn't good at steps at all) and ended up enjoying their smiling faces and requests, as I became more familiar (and in better shape). I bought an extra tape, so I wouldn't be without. I highly recommend this video!!!! This video arrived right away and in good condition. I used to do this workout years ago. I have tried other ways to keep in shape but none has worked as well as this. So, I've returned to the step aerobics. Great Workout! I agree with some of the other reviewers in that this video is a good workout and the time goes quickly. However, I am both a beginner and not very coordinated... I find that by the time I figure out what the instructors are doing they have gone on to a different step. In those times, I just make up my own steps. The complicated (for me) steps keep me from rating this video higher. I bought this video along with a step video by Kathy Smith. Kathy Smith's moves were much too complex for me and I stopped using it. However after a day's work and doing home chores, I look forward to doing Jane Fonda's video. I have never done the whole step section at one time, but find it easy to choose 2 or 3 segments (the instructors take turns) and I often find myself saying "just one more segment." The moves are simple, but interesting, and the music is fun. All 3 instructors are good and upbeat. It really gives me a workout and leaves me feeling positive because I have enjoyed myself and exercised at the same time.
I've only done the ab section (by Jane Fonda) once, but will do it again because it's easy to follow while giving my abs a good workout. I love this work out! The step aerobics are great for any level, for you can adjust difficulty by arm movements, or higher step. I have been stepping for years and found this in a thrift store for only $1. Well yes it was well worth it. The moves are fun, and the ab routine at the end is really great! This multilevel class is safe for and accessible to beginners, and just right for intermediates. Three of Fonda's able and motivating instructors teach the 45-minute step class. Half the room does lower-intensity moves; the other uses higher steps and higher-intensity techniques. The teaching technique is excellent: a pattern is taught on the floor before taking it up on the step. One participant does the routines totally without the step to guide beginners or others who don't feel comfortable using the step. The patterns never get very complex, but they are varied enough to keep you interested and energized, and you can adjust your step height to make the workout harder if you wish. The instructors cue seamlessly. Fonda herself teaches the 10-minute abdominal segment, with enough variations of the standard crunch to keep your abs contracting and your mind engaged.--Joan Price Rerations < Jane Fonda's Step Aerobic and Abdominal Workout [VHS] >

(A top-rate movie)
("The guy who's talking's got a heavy English accent. He could be a fruitcake.")
(Exceptional movie unexceptional presentation)
(Received fine) I found this at Wal-Mart a few nights ago, and decided to get it. I had already seen the remake, so I wanted to compare to see which one was better. I'd probably have to say that I liked the remake a little bit better than this one. Lieutenant Zachary Garber's routine is messed up when he hears about hijacking of the 6 Manhattan-bound local train from Pelham Bay Park which occurred between the 28th Street and 23rd Street Stations. The leader of the group is a man named Ryder. Ryder tells Garber that the city has one hour to give them ten million dollars, or they will start shooting hostages. Will Garber stop Ryder and save the day? I recommend THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE!!! Four men armed with machine guns hijack a New York City subway train, throwing the city into chaos. They threaten to kill a hostage every minute unless the city of New York pays them one million dollars. Lt. Zachary Garber (Walter Matthau), a New York City Transit Authority policeman, is bemused by the idea of anyone hijacking a subway train, since they can't take it anywhere the transit authority won't know about. He sets about investigating the crooks and their methods, whilst the city rushes to get the money to the hijackers before people start dying.
The Taking of Pelham One-Two-Three was released in 1974 and was a hit, its mix of New York cynical humour along with a strong thriller element proving to be a winning formula. Whilst based on the 1973 novel of the same name by John Godey, it alters some details of the story to make it more dramatic, most notably the memorable ending to the film.
Taking is a very effective movie, building tension throughout due to its use of audio exchanges between the transit authority and the hijackers, and the feeling that the hijackers are one step ahead of the police. There are some very influential ideas in this movie, notably the hijackers using colours as code-names (later borrowed by Quentin Tarantino for Reservoir Dogs), whilst there are some visual homages to the movie in Die Hard with a Vengeance. It's also nicely educational, with the audience learning probably more than it ever wanted to know about safety features on a subway network.
The heart of the movie, though, is the ongoing audio showdown between Walter Matthau's world-weary transit cop and Robert Shaw as the ruthless, calm, collected leader of the hijackers. The battle of wits between these two is superbly portrayed by two actors at the top of their game, and remains absolutely compelling. There are also some very accomplished supporting performances from the likes of Jerry Stiller, Martin Balsam and Julius Harris. The movie adds to what could have been a very straightforward story by including a subplot about the ill New York City mayor and how his hopes for re-election depend on how he handles the crisis.
All-in-all, The Taking of Pelham-One-Two-Three (*****) has barely aged a day and is a classic thriller, well worth tracking down. Two, frankly unnecessary, remakes also exist, a 1998 TV movie staring Edward James Olmos and a more recent 2009 movie starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta. The original is all you need. It is available now in the UK and USA. If you want to make gaudy, stunt-happy, ultimately hollow thriller movies, then by all means sign on one of those young, sleek-muscled flavors of the month to play the action star. But if you want a crime thriller that's watchable *and* believable, then put your money on a superb character actor like Walter Matthau (in today's acting climate, that guy would be William H. Macy). 1974's THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE is one helluva thriller, lean and taut and stylish. It stars a wonderful cast of character actors, including Matthau and Robert Shaw as the leading men.
The story tells of a daring daytime hijacking of a New York subway car and its resulting fallout. Robert Shaw plays the Englishman Mr. Blue, the cold-blooded leader of the hijackers, all of whom are gigged out in fedoras and trenchcoats, birth control glasses and mustaches, and armed with automatic weapons and colorful code names. Mr. Blue is matched up against Lt. Zachary Garber (Matthau) of the Transit Police, who is assigned as the hostage negotiator, the hijackers having taken eighteen hostages and now demanding a million dollars, deliverable within an hour. The time constraint forces Lt. Garber to cajole and beg and bluff, even as he tries to get a bead on Mr. Blue. Not an easy task since Mr. Blue isn't exactly a sucker.
Without a doubt THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE compares favorably with other classic urban thrillers of its era (Black Sunday, Assault on Precinct 13 (Special Edition), The Warriors (The Ultimate Director's Cut)). PELHAM ONE TWO THREE just crackles and charges along at a breakneck, no-nonsense pace. I couldn't believe how suspenseful and exhilarating this movie is, considering that there isn't much in the way of shoot-em-ups or explosions or car chases (although there are a few). And what's cool is that the film manages to capture the quintessential heartbeat of 1970s New York City: the funky wardrobe; that aggressive urban attitude; the frequently hilarious eff-bomb-strewn dialogue; the grime, the grit. The banter never feels forced and is delivered with that patented Big Apple bite and brass. What's more, there's no padding onscreen - no wasted, bloated scenes. There are several side stories here, and yet they're all in service of the overarching plot. So we wonder at the identity of the plainclothes cop onboard the taken subway car. We wince at the lethargy of bureaucracy, the posturings of an ineffective mayor, and the peccadillos of New York traffic. We take it all in, as dissension mounts for both sides, an exasperated Lt.Garber hampered by a combative dispatcher and the hijackers' personality clashes helping in part to inevitably do them in. And who woulda thunk it that "Gesundheit!" would sound the death knell for one crook's freedom?
So there's a remake now with Denzel Washington and John Travolta, and these two are, without a doubt, hall of fame actors. But, brother, have they got their work cut out for them, living up to the original PELHAM ONE TWO THREE. This 1974 version boasts pitch perfect naturalistic performances from the cast, especially from Walter Matthau, who specialized in these kinds of everyday schmoe roles. Matthau, prior to PELHAM, had just starred in Charley Varrick and The Laughing Policeman, two other crime thrillers. But you'd walk a long way before you find someone who considers Matthau an action star. Nevertheless, Matthau, with his habitually rumpled look and his wry sense of humor, grounds this movie. I certainly buy him more as a cop than, say, Steven Seagal or Keanu Reeves. Also standing out are Robert Shaw (so memorable in THE STING, JAWS, and BLACK SUNDAY) as the caper's steely mastermind who thought he'd covered every angle and Hector Elizondo as the trigger-happy Mr. Grey. For fans of SEINFELD, Jerry Stiller also pops up in a serious supporting role.
The final sequence comes as sort of a coda, with Garber wearily walking the rounds, going down his list of suspects for that one final hijacker. Martin Balsam does a job in somehow making his bad guy, Mr. Green, sympathetic. As Garber questions Mr. Green in his cramped apartment, I actually found myself rooting for the fella to get away. But how Garber catches on to him is a classic moment, and it's only fitting that the picture ends with a marvelous close-up of Matthau's expressive basset hound face. The look on him says it all; no need for dialogue. Let's see Denzel and Travolta top that. Joseph Sargent's film of "The Taking of Pelham one Two Three" is an exceptional 70's thriller that has a decent looking nonanamorphic transfer to DVD. Here's hoping the film will be reissue on Blu-ray or DVD (or both)with an improved looking presentation in the wake of the remake by director Tony Scott. The film has faded a bit and certainly could benefit from a restoration for home video.
When a subway train and its passengers are taken hostage by a group of men identified only as Mr. Blue (Robert Shaw), Mr. Green (Martin Balsam), Mr. Gray (Hector Elizondo)and Mr. Brown(Earl Hindman best known as Wilson on "Home Improvement"), a subway police officer Garber (Walter Matthau) finds he may be the only person that can keep the passengers alive by acting as a go-between on the radio with the hijackers and city officals as they try and meet their demands for ransom.
The film is filled with marvelous character actors from Jerry Stiller (yes, Ben Stiller's dad and a comedian/actor who appeared in a number of films and TV shows)to Dick O'Neill who give a ring of authenticity to the film. The location shooting also adds a sense of reality to this terrific thriller. Shaw's icy performance as Mr. Blue (the use of colors as code names for the characters was taken from this for "Reservoir Dogs"). Matthau likewise gives a terrific performance as the weary, cynical Garber bringing a lived quality to his performance.
The DVD comes only with the original theatrical trailer which is a pity because, if I recall correctly, there WAS a short promo piece made that aired on late night TV when this show was made in the early 70's. Likewise, director Sargent is (as of this writing)still alive. I'm not sure if he's up to doing a commentary track but it would be nice if someone asked him on one of his best films from the 70's. Sargent wasn't the original director chosen initially for the project--Steve Spielberg was but wasn't chosen for some reason. Regardless, Sargent does a marvelous job with the actors and structuring a terrific thriller.
I'd love to see some of Sargent's other work (including the terrific 1975 TV movie "The Night That Panicked America" and 1989 TV movie "Day One")be brought to DVD as well. Recommended thriller but I'd wait for a reissue with a better anamorphic transfer. Received movie quicker than expected and in fine shape. The DVD played just fine, no skips/scratches. Thanks Dog Day Afternoon.Annie Hall.Taxi Driver. In the pantheon of classic New York films, these three take pride of place. But there are, of course, others, some of which have fallen through the cracks over the years, criminally overlooked and unjustly relegated to commercial-riddled Saturday-afternoon TV broadcasts. Joseph Sargent'sThe Taking of Pelham One Two Threeis just such a picture. This taut 1974 thriller about four armed men who highjack a New York City subway train and hold it and its passengers for ransom may be hopelessly dated (it's loaded with ethnic stereotypes, impossibly wide neckties, and bad hairdos--and there are no explosions!), but that's part of the fun. A gruffly sardonic Walter Matthau heads a fine cast that includes Jerry Stiller, Hector Elizondo, Martin Balsam, and a perfectly villainous pre-JawsRobert Shaw. Think you'll find a better film that depicts a nearly broke city led by an inept mayor forced to deal with armed terrorists? Fuhgeddaboutit!--Steve Landau Rerations < Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 [VHS] >

(hope...)
(Shawshank Redemption)
(Excellent in time and at the Prison site.)
("Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies".) This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. A true story that's a must see movie. this is an interesting film that i have watched many times and i will without being bored.the shawshank redemption shows us the importance of HOPE and it is a serious work i think; however there are a little more goofs in it.but it is okey. What a wonderful movie this is! I watch it every time it's aired on TV. The story and actors were all perfect for the roles they played. I'm happy that I finally own a copy of this great movie. Thank you. I thought it was one of those movies that keep you on your feet. Everytime something happened your were either on your seat or standing on your feet. One of those movies that you just could not stand to miss any of it. It was really done well for all those people that played in this movie. Great Job to everyone. Even the Directors very well done. Shawshank Redemption, the best movie I have seen and will always be. Words cannot describe what I have just seen because it is simply too powerful. The movie is about two men who met in prison. That is as far as I can say because I do not want to waste the elegance of this movie on a stupid summary for you, so see it for yourself. After some research, it's a wonder to why this movie had not won any awards and Forrest Gump was the one to win it all back in 1994, especially when Shawshank Redemption is by no contest and by far better in every aspect.
I avoided this film all these years after numerously hearing it was good, simply because the title and front cover of the movie looked boring. Shawshank Redemption was opposite of that, I do not believe I will ever find another movie as beautiful as this, that is why I say it is the best movie that I have seen ever. I normally do not say something is the best ever because I will always experience new things and something will always surpass one thing. Impressed beyond my ability to describe the film, Shawshank Redemption is one thing that cannot be surpassed.
The connection that I felt between the characters were strong and powerful. The one thing this movie shows and talk about is hope, it reminds me of a video I made for my multimedia class back in high school. The video's message was about hope and contains a poem about it.
I have seen plenty of grade A movies, The Godfather, Goodfellas, American History X, Cidade De Deus, Pulp Fiction, etc. But nothing I have seen has come near to holding up it's beauty when in comparison with Shawshank Redemption. Maybe it's just me, maybe I have some personal attachment to the movie that others may not have. But it's hard to believe so because I know a good movie when I see a good movie.
Once again, if you have not seen this, it is highly recommended and it is the number one movie that I recommend to watch before you die. The sooner you see it, the better. I've seen many people wrote Shawshank Redemption is highly overrated and is just another good movie. I can not find another way to disagree more, Shawshank Redemption is a superb movie that tells a unforgettable story of friendship, struggle, and hope. One of the few movies to cry to after seeing, it is too beautifully made and you know that no movie will ever be the same again.
"Get busy living, or get busy dying".

When this popular prison drama was released in 1994, some critics complained that the movie was too long (142 minutes) to sustain its story. Those complaints miss the point, because the passage of time is crucial to this story about patience, the squeaky wheels of justice, and the growth of a life-long friendship. Only when the film reaches its final, emotionally satisfying scene do you fully understand why writer-director Frank Darabont (adapting a novella by Stephen King) allows the story to unfold at its necessary pace, and the effect is dramatically rewarding. (Great Cast...)
(The preview makes this movie look like fluff, but it's not.)
(Not the entertainment I was expecting)
(Boring) I know, I know.....the movies are never that faithful to the books. I know they need to "tweek" the original stories for the movie version, etc., blah, blah, blah. But if the only thing you are going to walk away with from the original story is the names of the characters, the title for the film and like one accurate scene that correlates with the book, then why bother with basing it on the book in the first place?
Don't get me wrong, sometimes the movies bring the books alive (I still haven't found that yet, but I'm trying to be reasonable), but if you're going to rewrite the entire thing....I just don't get it. And its not even funnier or better! That would be justifiable, I guess, but its hard to improve on the real thing since Kinsella is brilliant. This was a disaster!
Becky is a normal person, in a job she doesn't like and she has a shopping problem. She isn't a ditz like they portray in the movie. She has always worked for a financial magazine and you don't get the impression she dresses like a twelve year old playing dress-up with her mother's clothes.
The book is funny, the story is funny and believable. Why switch everything around? It wasn't funny. And why couldn't they leave it set in England? I don't get that switch either. It would have worked better the way it was originally written, as Becky uncovers fraud at a major banking institution......gee, sound familiar? At least the book shows that she's not stupid just oblivious to her talents (aside from finding a sale).
HUGH DANCY is great, funny (with what little they give him to work with) and I feel the talented cast could not salvage this movie. Read the books they are classics and you will understand the characters and situations better, as well as laugh incessantly! Why can't they just stick with what works? If the books were such a hit, don't they think its for a reason????????? I am a big fan of Kinsella's "Shopaholic" books, so I was hoping that this film would bring some of that humor and the sheer audacity of the characters to the big screen. And while I enjoyed the performances of Isla Fisher as Becky Bloomwood and Hugh Dancy as her boss/love-interest, as usual, the translation to film left out some of what made these books fabulous.
For one thing, taking snippets from each book and trying to position everything into one feature--well, there is just so much you can do in a couple of hours of movie production.
But, to give the film its due, choosing Isla Fisher as Becky was "spot on," as the British say. She is charming, delightful, and after watching her for awhile, you forget that the film is not really as much like the books as you might hope. And Hugh Dancy--well, he's a "hottie," so it was definitely fun to watch him!
If you want a couple hours of sheer fun, and especially if you haven't read the books, you will find Confessions of a Shopaholic delightful. Four stars worth.
Laurel-Rain Snow Author of: Chasing Stardust, etc.
I remember seeing previews for this on tv and honestly the previews made this movie look like a really typical, fluffy, stupid movie with a stupid lead character. I was pleasantly surprised when I did end up watching the DVD. It's sweet and cute, but not as superficial and horrid as I had imagined. Therefore, I give it a 4 out of 5 stars as it wasn't a masterpiece, but it was a cute, fun movie for girls and women. :) I am a romantic comedy loyalist. Normally, I love films like this. My library is packed with 'em! However, this movie left me wanting. Aside from Isla Fisher being a sweetheart and Hugh Dancy being a hottie, I found that it got quite dry in the middle and continued through the end. I just really don't think anyone should waste their money on this film! The plot was uninteresting and predictable, with little to no laughs. I never thought this would be such a boring comedy; to the point of putting me to sleep after its first thirty or forty minutes. It has such an unbelievable poor plot, as well as unfunny gags, that it's almost impossible to get at least one laugh from it.

Not yet released customer 's review (Writers who dare to take risks with their creations.)
(Dexter III--He's more human and lovable than ever...yet an ever more confident killing machine.)
(Diana Z)
(totally whack)
(Where is this box set?) Season One, incredible.
Season Two, I wanted to love it, but ended up thinking it was good.
Season Three, wow what a step up.
1) The characters are evolving: it is great to see. Grats to the writers for having the courage to take risks.
2) Dexter is faced with new human experiences we haven't seen him have to deal with before. While these may not be action sequences, they are insights to how he thinks, which I loved in the first season, and felt like I missed in the second season.
3) There is witty writing not just in a few episodes, but many.
4) The action pace may seem slow, but the writers are building you up to experience what Dexter does. It is worth the cost in action, and there really is plenty to think about on the way.
5) Not least, but the actors, all of them, did a great job! Jimmie Smitts does an excellent job with his guest appearance!
In short, with this season, I would say this series is on par with Sopranos' best seasons and Battlestar Galactica's best. It really needs to start being given awards for the writing, acting, direction, and music. In Season III, the human side of Dexter gets more play than ever. It gets a huge boost in the endearing (and comical) struggle that emerges as Dexter contemplates true commitment--the forever kind, to not one but two other human beings--his Madonna lover Rita, and a surprise other one (who you'll learn about when you watch). He's also struggles to TRUST, and to let himself give in to his longing for a real friend, one he can be honest with, who wont bolt from him when Dex bares his soul. On the other side--the EVIL. In this Season, Dexter is at the top of his game in murder, and also more sure of himself and of the justice of his executioner role. In fact he is so now so efficient in his evil, that some of the suspense that I felt in I and II--the holding of my breath whenever he was in the middle of a kill mission, has faded. In Season III, the guy's so good, and the risk of his bumbling and exposure so low, that I got a little complacent. Maybe this is a flaw in one sense, plot-wise in this Season. On the other hand, not to disappoint viewers, the killing stories display a long set of new skills by Dex, as he sets up more and novel clever traps, and improvises tirelessly in his damage control stunts, when bad luck threatens his missions. But as Dex becomes more sure-footed in his evil deeds, he becomes much more troubled as he tries valliantly to learn how to behave like a good guy in the growing set of "good" guy roles he takes on. For me, this made for a much more interesting Dex, as it presented a growing contrast between the loyal, loving, generous, child-adoring man, who's earnest and vulnerable (but very funny), as he treads in unfamiliar feminine fiefdoms (like Yoga classes for couples, led by misleadingly gentle-voiced women), and the dispassionate and less guilt-ridden killer Dexter, the one that is even more eerily calm as he garrotes and injects his prey, and forces him to face a candlelit shrine of his victims' photos, while gagged and saran-wrapped, in a final Judgment Day, before he saws, bags and dumps him. One of the best scenes has Dexter facing a nasty serial wife-killer and chuckling with him about the best ways to evade a girlfriend--golf and boats it turns out--all while getting just the right facts to send the guy off on his last jaunt at sea. So this new Dex--more good yet more "bad", makes this season cool and novel. And, as many reviewers noted, the playing out of that remarkable and dark friendship with Miguel, the centerpiece of Season III--captured me...maybe even more than the Skinner guy lurking around and flaying people all Season did! See this season, enjoy it, and decide for yourselves. I love Dexter. My daughter got me started on it and I have been watching it ever since. I already have season 3 reserved. It is one of the best shows on TV. its june 6th and dex season 3 on dvd is not available until august.
but they do offer it for video on demand today. anyone else think thats total crap or is it just me?
they're never gonna get anyone to pay for online content no matter what they do. there's just too much free stuff out there.
you're just gonna piss off loyal customers like me. This was due out ages ago. I think it's being shown in the UK before being released here. Does anyone know if that's true? Highly irregular! I hope I'm wrong.
I rated it 3 stars because I haven't seen it yet. I hope it's a 5, tho. Dexter is an American television drama series that airs on American premium channel Showtime. (crunchy chips)
(Great Chips)
(Happy snacker.)
(I love these chips) There potato chips are certainly crunchy - but (to me) they have a rather stange 'checmically' aftertaste. Not as delicious as "Kettle" brand potato chips, but certainly a more consistent color and less oily on the fingers. If you are looking for real crunchy chips these are the ones. Very good in taste and they do pack the crunch. One drawback is towards the bottom of the bag it gets a little greasy. I'd buy them again! I consider myself somewhat of a potato chip expert having indulged my craving for over 55 years. I first discovered Madhouse Munchies Sea Salted chips during a two year stay in Vermont close to where they're made. I missed that lightly salted flavor when I moved back home. It was a pleasant surprise to find them at Amazon. If you like potato chips with a crunch, that aren't so thin they have no substance and with just the right amount of salt, this is it. I rate these chips among my top three favorites. I've recently had to change my diet and cut down on salt. I'm a salt-aholic so this wasn't easy. I found Madhouse Munchies chips in a Gourmet Kitchen store and I was amazed at how good they taste. They have about half the sodium of other chips but taste delicious and satisfy the salt craving. The store that carried these is far enough away that I don't get there often so I checked the internet. I'm able to get a case of 12 bags delivered right to my door for a reasonable price. Thanks Amazon. I am not a potato chip lover. I'm never on the hunt for a salty snack but I will go out of my way for these. They always taste fresh and crispy and I can tell from the flavor that the company has gone out of there way to use quality ingredients. In 1996 I left the financial markets and set out for the clear skies and wide-open spaces of Vermont to pursue my vision of the perfect potato chip. Four years later, I have never looked back and have never eaten better! I first started by hand-slicing small batches of fresh New England potatoes into a small French-fry cooker I borrowed from a friend with a restaurant. I experimented for months testing different oils, potatoes and seasoned toppings. My plan was simple; not to give up until I had discovered the point at which perfect flavor merged with a healthy, simple recipe. Eventually, I found that perfect recipe: Select North American potatoes cooked in pure high-monounsaturated canola oil and topped with only all natural spices, herbs and sea salt. Nothing artificial is used, ever - only simple, premium, healthful and naturally delicious ingredients go into making our chips. Life became a Madhouse from that point on! As word got out about our recipes, our popularity among chip connoisseurs grew at a frantic pace. While we have been copied and shoved-around by the "Big Guys" in the chip world, they just can't seem to get it right, and for now, our unique micro-chips are, alone, at the top. I certainly hope that you enjoy Madhouse Munchies as much as we do. Enjoy! Jim Ehlen, Founder Rerations < Madhouse Munchies Sea Salted Potato Chips, 5-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12) >

(Tasty)
(Can't get this locally anymore!) This popcorn is very difficult to find, I can only buy it at the military commisary which I no longer have access to. It's delicious, I cannot understand why it isn't in every store. In any case, I purchased this and was sent a box that was expired, called amazon and was promptly sent a fresh box. for all ages !! Everyone in my home and then some enjoy this particular flavor of Redenbacher's. This is my absolute favorite along with the Movie Theater Butter a close second. If you make alot of popcorn, give this a try, you won't be disappointed ! customer 's review (Best Popcorn Ever!)
(WOW! Surprisingly yummy!)
(Love this Popcorn)
(Popcorn)
(Great Flavor, Perfect Size Snack) I specifically ordered a case of this popcorn because I had received a free sample and absolutely loved it! It is the best popcorn I have ever eaten and highly recommend it. I had wanted to get it at our local Walmart, but they were out and when I found it on amazon.com, I had to order it ;0) I prefer the peppery taste to the salty taste by far. I got a free sample of this in the mail and the very next day I had to run out and get more! Who would have thought a little cracked pepper could make popcorn taste this good! After a few handfuls I could feel a tinge of heat from the pepper on my tongue which I loved. I will admit it is a little salty and oily. I have also tried the other natural popcorn from Orville including buttery garlic (which could use more garlic in my opinion) and hint of salt but this flavor takes the cake! Wish it came in a bigger bag also at my local supermarket a box goes for $3.99 which I think is overpriced! We found this in a local store and couldn't believe how awesome it tasted with the black pepper. I would not have guessed such a simple thing would make such a huge difference. Unfortunately our local store no longer carries it so we delighted when I found it in bulk through Amazon. I love that the bags are small single-serve snack bags, not a lot wasted if you just want a salty/savory snack. They pop quickly and taste amazing. Everyone at my work is jealous when I pop some as a snack. Highly recommended. Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Microwavable Popcorn, Natural Simply Salted 50% Less Fat, 3-Count Boxes (Pack of 12) I've been ordering Orvlle's popcorn online for a couple of years. customer 's review (PRETTY GOOD...)
(Misleading)
(Decent, but Overpriced)
(Meh. Could be Better.)
(small time gamer) I bought this projector for a few reasons. It was cheap, and it did what I would want it to do. I just wanted a projector for watching movies in my room with. The quality is good, not blurred or fuzzy. Speakers are AMAZING for being so small. You can see writing fine, and you cant see individual pixels. The only problem is that is so dark, especially in darker sceenes. If the sceene is in the bright daylight, its fine. I'm still trying to find out if you can replace the bulb witha better one. Even with the door closed, and the curtains down, it was very dark, and got darker the farther away the projector was from the screen. I didn't need something with outstanding quality, but just something that would do what I wanted it to do. The darkness is the ONLY problem. If you know whether or not you can buy a better bulb, please tell me. I'm dissapointed by this product, because if they fixed the darkness problem, then it would be absolutely perfect. I would put 3.5/5 stars, but I could only rate with whole numbers. I purchased this projector based upon price, consumer reviews and the product description. In the description, the manufacturer claims this projector will work with computers. This claim is also on the side of the box. It is simply not true. First of all, the projector only comes with RCA video hook-ups, necessitating both and S-type video adapter and a VGA adapter simply to get a video card to recognize it. It will not convert VGA to any sort of video without another converter. This is the point at which I stopped trying to make the item perform with my laptop; it's simply not worth the expense. Other reviews have noted the poor quality of the projected image. I will agree with their opinions. In an utterly dark room, the image may be tolerable but it will never be good. I would rate this unit a "0" stars if possible; however, I will give it a "1" because I must. The only features which warrant this single star are the sturdiness of the unit, easy of installation to a television and surprisingly good sound. Unless you want to buy it for those reasons, pass the torpedo by and look for something else I've been using this projector for almost 18 months now. It has not once broken down and the bulb is as strong as ever. This is a durable machine.
The quality on this projector is okay (see the more technicaly literate reviews), and the fan is a little noisy. I have used it for a home theater in my room and while it works okay, it does not do dark very well and finding the right color balance can be difficult.
Basically, it's pretty good if your expectations aren't high, but even so, it is not worth more than $100. $150, tops. I was lucky and purchased this item at the $99.00 price from one of the Reseller's available through Amazon.
I use this on the wall anywhere from 6'-8' and the picture quality is decent, but the [smaller] text is fuzzy at best. :o( Don't get me wrong, it gets the job done, but I expected more for the price ($250.00). well thank you mothers and fellow gamers i now just ordered my torpedo projector. i didnt know if it was going to be good but what i here its just what i need (big picture, cheap!!). thanks for getting the message out. nicka The Torpedo Digital Projector projects a huge image right on your wall or ceiling

customer 's review (Works great - super seller!)
(Can't go wrong) Bought thinking if this worked for a month, I'd be tickled... it inserted onto motherboard easily [Be aware -this will install in the lower back of your computer - this is not one that will go in the front]
Works great - no problems so far. They had a nice software bundled with the card, but no serial number to open it. I got online and HDE has been super and speedy with replies and a s/n to install. I cant be more pleased! I was hesitant on buying this since it was only $6 and THAT INCLUDED A FW CABLE! I just bought a $200 Canon printer and that didn't even have a USB cable!
This card worked perfectly. Just insert it and Windows picked it right up.
Works great! Get your data faster! Add FireWire capability to your computer with this PCI expansion card. Connect external or internal components. Supports Plug&Play/hot-swapping,&connection of up to 63 peripherals! Rerations < PCI FireWire IEEE 1394 3+1 Port Card with 4/6 Pin Cable >

customer 's review (Portable, Performs like a Pro)
(Best external USB drive which I found)
(very, very happy)
(Works great with Aspire One)
(lighting fast) Like some of the other reviewers, I feel the fact this drive comes with an external power supply is a plus. The advantage is that, if you are on USB power alone your computer may not power it up and recognize it early enough in the boot process for it to work as a boot device. This drive installed on an Asus Eee PC 1000HA without further software. It worked fine as a first boot device to install the setup software for the Asus on a new hard drive.
The power supply itself is smaller than a pack of cigarettes and very lightweight. Watching DVDs is a breeze and the Sony DRXS70U/R is quick on recording and backups. I would like to know more from someone like B. Wang about how the PSP cable works. I ordered a PSP USB cable from Amazon and the one I received comes with a regular USB tip, mini USB, and a power tip. My question is, if I should plug both the mini USB and power tip into the DVD drive at the same time, or just the power tip. Any comments are appreciated. The USB2 port on my laptop cannot power an external drive so this was perfect, having an external power supply. It's built solid and performs very well. Nice feel to it, works similar to a laptop style drive. It's slim and rugged, but will add a small amount of weight to your laptop case to lug around. As usual, I do not install any of the included software but use the freeware Image Burn program instead - it works when Nero 6 failed. Switching from XP to OSX, the drive is quite fast on a mac and does not need any special software or drivers. Of all the external DVD burners I looked at, this was the best built and supported the largest range of formats. Having had many poor experiences with TigerDirect, I suggest to use a quality retailer when placing your order. i have an iMac and found that the vertical CD drive would frequently kick out disks that i tried to copy/burn. once i had this external i've never had a problem. love it. I purchased this drive to use with an Aspire One netbook. It comes with decent software Nero Express, a small USB cable and an AC adapter. It does, in fact, need to be plugged into AC to function. I would have like it to work off of a USB Y-cable, but the AC adapter is pretty small. In my situation, powering the DVD drive off of the netbook would be like a vampire feeding off of himself.
Nice drive, very solid feeling and works flawlessly. This portable CD/DVD rewritable is definitely fast. The design is awesome; I love the ultra slim design. Only thing I'm not crazy about is that it needs external power to run this device causing clutter with wires&cables. Record DVDs and CDs from virtually anywhere with this external Sony DRXS70UR multi-format DVD burner. Its small size is the perfect notebook companion. This external ultra-slim USB DVD burner supports all popular DVD and CD formats, including double-layer. Suitable for a desktop PC or a laptop, this DVD burner takes up very minimal space on your desk or carry case. Weighing just about 14 ounces, this burner is designed to be mobile friendly - easy to carry anywhere. With its new brushed design aluminum casing, the drive is robust and cosmetically very appealing. The DRXS70UR is supplied with the Nero software suite for operation on Windows Vista/XP/2000 PC. Many of the new Netbooks from Acer, Asus, HP, and Samsung do not include a DVD/CD drive. This is an excellent add-on accessory for these models to help load software onto them. (Good Price)
(JUNK! Beware.)
(Don't Trust your Data to this piece of garbage)
(Nearly DOA) I have no problems using this HD with my Macbook Pro, and have enjoyed the storage. It is my third external hard drive. It is the cheapest in term of dollar per GB memory capacity, but the design is the worst of the three. I personally open the box and check out what is inside, NOT MUCH metal after all. The main thing inside is a very huge SATA seagate 1000GB hard drive dish. The enclosure case is a joke. Unlike my other E-HDD which have a thick aluminum case for protection, this E-HDD has only a tiny layer of metal and the outside plastic case. Another negative about this is that it has No fan and No power on-off button. It will get pretty hot within 2-3 hours.
Pro 1000GB for $100 = 10GB/$1 (very cheap memory) Seagate SATA HDD (trusted HDD brand)
Con Cheap enclosure (not bullet-proof, no any aluminum metal) No power on-off button (you have to plug the USB or the Power cord off to shut down this unit, or you have to shut down your PC) No Fan (gets hot pretty easy) Power adapter is connected to the socket plug (not convenience on some power socket)
I give it a 5 star because of its price. I got this from ebay for $99; shipping is free. Purchased this as a backup drive for my PowerMac. Worked well for a little over 3 months, then started getting "backup failed" errors.
Ran Disk Utility and it could not repair the disk. It had several bad disk errors. Ran DiskWarrior (probably the best of all disk directory repair utilities out there). It was able to scavenge a few files and repair some directory problems, but indicated hardware problems and could not replace the directory.
So - a subsequent search online reveals that hardware problems are a pretty common issue with this drive. I am wishing I had not purchased this drive.
We will see what kind of customer service Seagate has when I initiate the return this week. Absolutely the WORST external drive I've ever come across. Don't be fooled into thinking Seagate=quality. I used this disk as backup and right when I needed it, it failed. The disk enclosure over heats and the disk finally crapped out.
Seriously. In all honesty:
DO NOT TRUST THIS PRODUCT!!!!!! Bought this drive and Amazon delivered it quickly. That's about where the good news ends.
I hooked it up and it didn't spin up on my system running XP with SP3. I looked through Google pretty carefully and the only folks who described this kind of problem are Mac and Linux users. No help there. I tried unplugging and replugging the drive's cables and discovered that reinserting either the power or the USB cable would wake the drive and Windows would use it. A crummy solution.
On a lark, I did what Seagate's tech support page says not to do, and I plugged the drive into a USB hub which seemed to sort of get the drive to stop being stupid and spin up as Windows loaded either from a reboot or hibernation. In fact, I could even put the drive back directly on the PC and the non-spinup problem was magically cured. Ok, I'll go with that.
But then...the drive decided to start making intermittent CLICK-CLICK noises. At first they were far and few between, then as I wrote more and more data to this device it started clicking more and more, with file transfers pausing as this behavior occurred.
I downloaded Seagate's "SeaTools" and had the drive do its internal "short drive test" and "long drive test". In both cases, the progress bar moved a couple notches and then hung. "Chkdsk /r " at the command prompt hung at 15%. I reformatted the drive, hoping that would spot and sequester any bad sectors and reran the diagnostics. The SeaTools passed, albeit with some disconcerting clicks along the way, but chkdsk still hung, this time at 44%.
I'm now having to RMA a drive that literally ran for less than a day before crapping out. If I could do it again, I'd buy a different brand, and preferably one with an actual power switch on it that wouldn't make me rely on automated USB functions to wake such a critical device. My wife's Western Digital drive has such a switch: wish I'd gone with their product instead. Easily store and automatically copy your content for safekeeping and quick access. (Plug and Play)
(Doesn't even rate 1 star.)
(Great for Mac Time-machine backup)
(Works Great, Easy to Install!) For Mac users, it's a great thing to "plug-and-play" without having to format the drive. Plugged it in and there it was! I need lots of storage for my videos, so this works great! Based on Amazon reviews, I purchased the Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1 TB drive to replace a Western Digital drive that failed after two years. The Seagate drive appeared to be a good choice to use on a Mac with Time Machine. My Mac recognized the drive after a few seconds and I was able to successfully complete a backup. In response to some other comments, the drive did get warm during the initial backup of 110 GB. I found that using a small fan to cool the drive during the initial backup increased transfer speed. Also, it does take a few seconds to spin up when TM initiates a backup. The drive does sleep with the Mac ("put hard disks to sleep" is enabled in energy saver preferences). Based on some of the other reviews I expected the light on the front of the drive to be more bothersome. I don't think it's that bright and it does turn off when the drive goes to sleep. All in all, if it lasts for a few years it will be a good buy. It was rated at 3 stars overall when I made the purchase. Like an idiot, I decided to get it anyway... the price for the 1.5 TB was just too hard to resist. This POS didn't last 3 weeks before it went bad. I ran the gamut with Seagate support and confirming the hassle other reviewers posted. DO NOT BUY!!
I didn't lose everything, but I was dumping quite a bit of data that wasn't backed up. "Seagate warranties the drive, not the data," - is what I was told over the phone, so I have to get professional data recovery to recover my files in order to get a replacement drive under warranty. I was moving stuff from my Time Capsule over, so I had disengaged Time Machine... so I had about a week's worth of heavy work lost in the drive.
If you didn't but from Seagate paying their $300 price tag, you can't get a refund. The most they would do is advance order a replacement drive ($19.95) that I had them send to the Major Mac Data Recovery so that I would have a drive to transfer the files over to. I'll be sending my 1TB Time Capsule to duplicate the files for WHEN, and I do mean WHEN this replacement drive fails. So I am stuck with an unreliable drive that I will be getting return shipment labels for every 3-4 weeks since each replacement drive comes with it's own warranty.
I wonder how long they will go before they just issue a refund. Got this product just to back up my iMac. Connected it to the computer with Firewire 800 cable, iMac recognized it immediately and backups are super fast. I suspect this unit would be excellent for any backup work, or even as an auxiliary hard drive with a firewire-enabled computer. The Seagate drive arrived quickly within a week even with free shipping. All cables included. We used firewire 800 on an Intel iMac. Once hooked up Time Machine immediately recognized the drive and started to do its backup. It has been over a month now and the Seagate keeps on doing its thing. It is very quiet and you wouldn't know it is on except for the light on the front and underneath. The drive exterior blends very well with the iMac. All in all, I am very pleased! With its huge capacity and sleek design, the Mac-ready Seagate FreeAgent Desk storage solution delivers a powerful yet simple way to help safeguard all your photos, music, videos, and documents. You can get up and running quickly thanks to Mac formatting and time machine-readiness, then enjoy blazingly-fast transfer of your content with FireWire 800 and USB interfaces. (WORKS WITH MAC JUST FINE)
(Horrible! Piece of #*$&@ Don't buy)
(Great external drive for lots of data)
(FA-X as a DVR expander) This external hard drive could have been a five star if only it would work with Windows Vista sixty four. i don't remember the sales write up stating that it isn't compatible with the 64 but it isn't! The drive is very fast, it will hook up thru the wireless USB and very easy to use as a extend drive, but don't expect the provided software to back up your system. I do my own back ups by coping files to it and it does work well. Easy and fast to transfer and quick on the retrieval. I have used three other types and brands of external drives for my Mac's and windows machines and this is the quickest. A good buy but junk the software. I had the same situation as OrangeCrush, I was at best buy and thought I'd give it a go. Same model HD, but using an imac intel (late '06 model). The box says it has the windows software pre-loaded, and it does, but the great thing about macs is that you just plug it in and go. That's exactly what I did, and it works every time. I'm using the firewire and it mounts every time. All I had to do is format it to FAT-32 which is beyond easy. (go to utilities>disk utility) Yes, it does cause some conflict with my other firewire external HD (a WD mybook), but that may be because of the two firewire ports conflicting with each other. Other than that, both HD are able to mount and use with ease. I'm thinking about buying another one and having two 1.5TB HDs. One more thing: FAT-32 is an MS-DOS format, so I am able to plug it into a Vista laptop and use it without questions.
So to counter the big bold words that say "DO NOT USE WITH A MAC!!!", my suggestion is it will work absolutely fine if you just format it to FAT-32. This is not a huge step to do and doesn't require anything from your wallet. It's just like formating a memory card for your camera/PSP. Mac users, you are fine with this product. This is a horrible product. I would think that Seagate can make a better product. Died after 2 days of light use. Drive would start to click and then unmount itself. Don't buy even if it is cheap. What's the point of having a dead backup drive? There has been so many complaints that resellers are selling them cheap, but at a big cost to consumers. If I could give this drive a 0 star, I would. I was a bit cautious about ordering this drive given some of the reviews I've seen here, but given amazon's return policies and a good history with Seagate products, I decided to go ahead with this purchase.
I bought 2 of the drives (both 1.5TB) and I use them for offline backups of my server (which, in addition to day to day data from our laptops, has our entire photo, audio, and video collections). I had been using Seagate 750GB drives for this for the past couple of years, but am outgrowing them and so decided to double the space.
I looked also at the Western Digital 2TB drive, but it was substantially more expensive (almost double of the 1.5TB drive) and I couldn't justify the additional cost for just .5TB more, especially when I'm just outgrowing the 750GB drive.
Anyway, the drive arrived I hooked up power and used the existing firewire cable that I had been using for the old drive and it was immediately recognized by my system (Dell Latitude D830) and I did a backup of the data from my server (which is in the basement) over the network to the new drive connected to my laptop.
I don't use or install the distributed software that comes with the drive -- I use rsync (a Unix command that is available for Windows as part of the Cygwin package) to mirror data from my server onto the external drive in the background while I continue to use my laptop for my work.
Everything worked like a charm from the get-go.
I haven't tried the USB or e-Sata connections (firewire is faster than USB and seems to use less system resources and I don't have eSata interfaces on my system), so I can't speak for them. Firewire, which I can speak for, worked flawlessly from my Windows XP system. After many hours of frustration, I finally got my HDR-21 DVR from directv to find the external esata drive. It is somewhat tricky since there is no on/off switch. But after receiving some help from a forum board member it has performed flawlessly for weeks now. I have yet to turn it off. If you are searching for a drive for this purpose I would recommend an different setup. But it is working fine......knock on wood.....

(Good Model, but the Old Enterprise made of DIAMOND is better)
(Not the true enterprise 1701 last seen in star trek the undiscovered country)
(Completely Disappointed)
(Definetly Worth The Money) This ship from the new Star Trek movie is GREAT. The lights are 10x brighter than any of the old ships. The sounds are high quality, but they don't have enough of the different sayings like the original NCC-1701. This says 4 different things and that is it. BUT....the sounds with the lighting are tremendous ! Well worth the money ! Good Model, but the Old Enterprise made of DIAMOND is better, but it is cool have the two models, I will put some pictures. This is the JJ-Prise from the new movie. If you wanted that then buy this. If not then move along this is not the starship you are looking for.
Not to mention that they made a toy model when no model was built for the movie it was a computer graphic digitally generated image. I have been waiting for this toy since it was announced, and you can imagine my disappointment:
The box is about twice the size of the ship. So you end up buying a very tinny Enterprise. The overall quality of the toy is virtually non-existent, cheap plastic, cheap finishing touches, semi painted saucer bottom, lights come out from everywhere -not only from where they are supposed to come out from. All in all, it's a poorly made replica.
My deflector was also broken, so I think it's not about being careful opening the box, as some one else commented.
Unfortunately kids and adults are probably going to buy them anyway. There are other Star Trek Enterprise replicas out there (not from the 2009 movie, though) and most of them are just beautiful. So I can only say this: Paramount, pick some one else to make your toys, your 2009 movie deserves a great set of toys, certainly not the ones you are selling. I just got this at Target for $30 and it is worth the money. I like to sound that sounds like and alarm. When I hear it, I say like Kirk "Trouble on the Spaceboard". I have this displayed on my nightstand. I got this today with a Kirk glass from BK. The food was yummy so thank you for asking. I recomend this for Trekkies and fans of the new Star Trek film. So if you haven't seen it see it. And if you have see it again. I gotta go and remember Live Long and Prosper. (A vast improvement!) Starscream. He's the whiney transformer we all love to hate. We didn't get too much of him in the 1st transformers movie but hopefully he'll play a bigger role in Revenge of the Fallen.
For kids: This is one slick jet. When transformed it really looks like an F-22 Raptor and it has a cool paint job. It looks a bit like camouflage but is really Cybertronian in design. He has a unique transformation to robot form and features several spinning gears in his chest that move when his head is turned. His transformation is challenging without being overwhelming. I think kids will really enjoy this guy.
For adults: Sorry to compare to the 1st movie's toy of this character but it's a comparison that needs to be made - whether you have that one or not you'll probably get the point. I liked that one but this one puts it to shame. In jet mode the old figure looked fine but the underside was clunky and horribly fat with arms (which were really just huge missile launchers) and legs tucked under there. In all fairness it didn't even look like a jet from the bottom. Plus his head was always peeking out at you.
Well they went back to the drawing board with this one and man is it an improvement! This is not just a repaint. Instead of big and clunky he's sleek and smooth in jet form. The only robot bits visible at all are his hands otherwise this could be a cool little model of the F-22. The addition of the markings and symbols make him a bit more eye popping too and there are plenty of little sculpting details.
His transformation is totally different and is quite a bit of cool engineering. His head is completely hidden inside the jet and as he unfolds the body of the jet actually becomes the arms and legs and body instead of being all tucked under. It is an intricate but not an over complicated unfolding process. There are a couple of points to slot together and the tail fins that become his chest have two little black knobs that need to be matched to two little black holes as they are folded up into his body. This allows the "mech-alive" feature to work. It's a nifty little gimmick that when you turn his head several gears move in his chest.
This new Starscream may be a touch smaller than his movie 1 counterpart but the head and body sculpt are much more accurate. Plus he actually has hands. He also has missile launchers on top of his arms and he can shoot his projectiles. The only downside I could find what that the package seems to indicate "pop-up" missile launchers but they do not pop up and are just a solid piece of the arm. I won't knock off for that though since he's such an improvement in execution over the other.
He's a great fun figure with a great fun transformation that does not overwhelm. The first movie Voyager Starscream was a bit of a love-hate affair. There were some good things about it... but mostly it left a lot to be desired. Placed next to some of the better designs (e.g. Ironhide), it seemed... rushed.
Thankfully, Hasbro has responded to fan feedback and listened to the criticisms. ROTF Starscream is so much better that it leaves me wondering how the first one got out! The transformation is intricate but not overly complex, with a mech-alive gimmick that's actually quite nice. He's got hands this time, as opposed to just cannons for arms. The head sculpt is better, and overall he's not just cooler, but more movie accurate too. The best thing is probably the jet-mode: it's sooo much cleaner, with far less kibble underneath.
Negatives? He's quite a lot more difficult to balance, having smaller feet, whilst remaining top-heavy. The arms don't pose very naturally, and sometimes can be left in an awkward look (but hey, he's got hands!). And some might not like the new paintjob, which goes against the concept of a disguise.
Overall, this is still a very good Voyager. And so, so much better than the first incarnation. The moment his sensor net registered MEGATRON®* going offline, STARSCREAM knew the battle was over, and the AllSpark lost. He converted to vehicle mode and boosted for outer space, hoping to buy enough time to rally the DECEPTICON® survivors. Returning from CYBERTRONâ¢* bearing the marks won during his reign over the DECEPTICON army, he is focused on conquest. With a new army behind him, he has the strength to pursue his own goals, and perhaps, when the time is right, bring MEGATRON back.
Prepare to do battleâ DECEPTICON style! Fire either of two missiles from this eager enemyâs pop-out missile launcher in robot mode. Activate gears with a turn of STARSCREAM figureâs head! Or convert to an F-22® Raptor® aircraft in vehicle mode and let your imagination soar! Recreate exciting scenes from the movie or create your own! (fun for collecting) My son loves this car, but he pretty much loves all of the Cars stuff. He was excited to get it though and I was having trouble finding it in the stores. As he is a 2 year old, he is pretty tough on his toys, but I have found all of these figures from Cars to be more durable than most. Anyways, great toy for him and he is enjoying it! Very hard car to find in the major toy stores. Went onto Amazon.com found it in a snap, now my grandson has added to his pixar toy car collection and is one happy boy! This toy came much faster than the estimated shipping time. Just as described, no problem. This is a great toy from the Cars movie. Good quality construction and feel for a three year old. I love to collect all the disney pixar "Cars" diecast. They are very cool. I do have a hard time finding some though. I love my diecast Sheriff, but I get annoyed when all I see is him and Sally and green Ramone when I am looking for ones I don't have. Overall, these cars are great. It's fun to collect these 1:55-scale, die-cast action-sized vehicles! Rerations < Pixar Cars: Sheriff >

(Great tool to improve your marriage)
(very satisfied)
(Best thing ever) This is exactly what I ordered, and I received it within a matter of a couple of days after I ordered it. I am very pleased, and very impressed! Thank you. We purchased this product to use in addition to The Love Dare and the Fireproof movie. It integrates all three beautifully, but is outstanding in itself. The use and amount of right-on scripture is wonderful and provides the reinforcement to either make it through some tough times, or to strengthen the steadfast relationship you might have. I recommend this study to EVERYONE, especially for engagement gifts, anniversary gifts, etc. I cannot imagine this book not being a crowd pleaser. As a Chaplain Assistant in the U.S. Army, one of the biggest issues the Chaplain and I face almost every day is soldiers who are having marriage problems. We have found that a great way to reach these couples is to conduct marriage retreats, pulling them away from base for a few days so that they can spend quality time together. Here lately, one of the most talked about ministering tools is "Fireproof." I have seen struggling relationships completely turn their lives around after watching this great movie. And the study books that come with it make it even that much more effective. Highly recommended.
Casey Sean Harmon Author, "The Thousand Year Voyage" www.caseyseanharmon.webs.com This was a great movie and the love dare book and couples kit was another great addition. I have passed on how fast I received it in the mail from the tme of my in initial purchase. I am pleased with Amazon.com and the exceptional customer service they provide. I have to admit that this has to be one of the best ideas to come around. My fiance and I are doing the sessions through our church and it is amazing what you learn about both yourself and the person you are with. It is such a positive experiance! I think every couple intending to be married whether in a church or not should take this to heart. This was especially important to my fiance and I since this will be the second marriage for both of us. Too many marriages do not last these days because people are too focused on the "honeymoon" stage of the relationship. This will teach you how to see past that. The resource that is changing marriages across the U.S. Fireproof Your Marriage will challenge you to love better, to love first and to love for a lifetime! Founded on Biblical principles, this six session in-home study is a great way for you and your spouse to build and strengthen your marriage. The Fireproof Your Marriage study integrates video clips from the movie FIREPROOF, along with key Scriptures, thought-provoking questions and devotionals. The Couple's Kit includes a six-session DVD and two Participant's guides. Also makes a great wedding or anniversary gift! Fireproof Your Marriage includes these six sessions:1.) He Said/She Said: appreciating the God-designed differences between men and women.
2.) He First Loved Us: God's love for you and how it enables you to love others.
3.) Love for a Lifetime: marriage as a lifelong covenant.
4.) Breaking Free: freeing yourself from temptations that can destroy a marriage.5.) Forgiveness: offering and receiving forgiveness.
6.) A Better Way of Loving: unconditional love.

(Arthas: Rise of the Lich King is awesome!)
(Decent retelling of Warcraft 3/Warcraft 3:TFT, falls short on climax)
(Interesting lore on the Lich King)
(Warcraft lore should probably be left to Chris Metzen) this is a great book if you have played warcraft 3 or even if you havent. the book describes the events that happened in the game better then the game itself considering the technology of the time. if your not familiar with warcraft lore i recomend you either play warcraft 3 or read the other books first which will help make things make more sense. or you can go to wowwiki and look stuff up there. there where some things left out that other people said before like sapphiron but overall i thought it was a great book that leads right up to WoW: wotlk when he wakes up. Let me preface this by letting you all know that I am a huge, huge lore fan. Arthas: Rise of the Lich King, is amazing for several reasons. The first thing that comes to mind is that Christie Golden does an amazing job at breathing life into the Arthas. Up until I read this book, Arthas Menethil was an awesome and powerful former servant of the lich king (Ner'Zhul) who thirsted for and sought power. Now I see Arthas Menethil as a former prince, son, friend, lover and most importantly...human. Arthas Menethil is a victim of the Lich King's corruption, but ultimately he is his own destruction. In my honest opinion this is one of Christie Golden's best World of Warcraft novels yet. I can only imagine the challenges of writing a story that already exists, without losing any of your own talent, creativity and passion. This book is truly worth it! Arthas: Rise of the Lich King has no major flaws, but it has no major accomplishments either. Most of the story is merely a retelling of Warcraft III and Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne.
Where the book lacks, in my opinion, is what parts of that retelling it chose to expand upon. The Arthas and Jania storyline is pushed very hard here, it almost seems to be pandering to fans of Proudmoore, even if she has yet to become a major player in the lore of the universe. The battles though are generally vague and short; even the epic fight between Arthas and Illidan.
This part of Warcraft lore pits two of the strongest Warcraft anti-heros against each other in epic combat. Illidan, after consuming the skull of Gul'dan, and Arthas after being given power untold by Ner'zhul. The book version of this fight is over in a page or so however, and ends like every other fight in this book. Abruptly and without real climax.
Its a decent retelling of the War3/War3:TFT events in book form, far better than those depicting Warcraft 2, but it falls short on action and climax. Still worth the read to fans of the universe.
3/5 This book does a great job tying in with the current World of Warcraft universe and gives a terrific background to Arthas Menethil who later becomes the Lich King.
This is superb storytelling within a limited framework (there wasn't much the author could expand on since she was tied to what was already known) yet it does have a few problems.
The transformation that Arthas undergoes to become the Lich King seems rushed and forced and completely out of character. It has to be thus obviously but I felt more time and care could have been taken to understand why he chose the path he did.
Before he finds Frostmourne (the sword itself takes over from there) it would have been a compelling point to truly understand what drove Arthas to forsake all that he knew and loved to make the decisions he did that lead to the slaughter of an entire small city.
Perhaps it was fear- most poor decisions made are fear-based but I would have liked to see this explored in more depth.
This didn't prevent me from thoroughly enjoying the story however and really liking the characters - especially Arthas and Jaina.
I also enjoyed learning how the Blood Elves came to be and further stories about many of the heroes of Azeroth.
Well done. I'm a sucker for game genre books which cover games that I'm a fan of. I've read all but one of the current Warcraft novels / manga / comics that are out there, as well as a chunk of the Diablo and Starcraft ones. The book Arthas is a tricky one to rate; mostly because the story itself would probably just be rated "good," but the lore side would be rated "high". All-in-all, I wish Blizzard would release a "Monster Manual" type of straight-forward lore manual instead of attempting to weave these stories.
I won't go over the storyline, as that's pretty much covered by the other reviewers - suffice to say, these events take place over the events of Warcraft III and a tiny bit of the WoW: Lich King world. The problem rests firmly in the fact that 250 pages of lore were stuffed in beside about another 100 pages of story, thereby making the story feel flat, the characters cardboard-ish, and the world itself feel thin. In attempting to follow the rise of Arthas from boyhood to Lich King, this story probably needed a good 200 more pages to truly flow properly. Then again... the idea that one of the pivotal reasons that Arthas became the Lich King was because of his horse... well maybe nothing can really save the story at that point. I would wholeheartedly agree with the reviewers saying that simply playing through the campaign mode of Warcraft III (and the Frozen Throne) is more engrossing than this book. The only part you're really missing is Arthas dating Jaina.
While I applaud Blizzard for hiring decent writers to tell their tales, I think Warcraft lore is to the point where it's so convoluted and complex, Chris Metzen is probably the only person who understands it all. Next time, instead of trying to produce a novella, I would personally prefer a straight forward "wiki" type of reference title. Frostmourne. It was caught in a hovering, jagged chunk of ice, the runes that ran the length of its blade glowing a cool blue. Below it was a dais of some sort, standing on a large gently raised mound that was covered in a dusting of snow. A soft light, coming from somewhere high above where the cavern was open to daylight, shone down on the runeblade. The icy prison hid some details of the sword's shape and form, exaggerated others. It was revealed and concealed at the same time, and all the more tempting, like a new lover imperfectly glimpsed through a gauzy curtain. Arthas knew the blade -- it was the selfsame sword he had seen in his dream when he first arrived. The sword that had not killed Invincible, but that had brought him back healed and healthy. He'd thought it a good omen then, but now he knew it was a true sign. This was what he had come to find. This sword would change everything. Arthas stared raptly at it, his hands almost physically aching to grasp it, his fingers to wrap themselves around the hilt, his arms to feel the weapon swinging smoothly in the blow that would end Mal'Ganis, end the torment he had visited upon the people of Lordaeron, end this lust for revenge. Drawn, he stepped forward. The uncanny elemental spirit drew its icy sword. "Turn away, before it is too late," it intoned. * * * His evil is legend. Lord of the undead Scourge, wielder of the runeblade Frostmourne, and enemy of the free peoples of Azeroth. The Lich King is an entity of incalculable power and unparalleled malice -- his icy soul utterly consumed by his plans to destroy all life on the World of Warcraft. But it was not always so. Long before his soul was fused with that of the orc shaman Ner'zhul, the Lich King was Arthas Menethil, crown prince of Lordaeron and faithful paladin of the Silver Hand. When a plague of undeath threatened all that he loved, Arthas was driven to pursue an ill-fated quest for a runeblade powerful enough to save his homeland. Yet the object of his search would exact a heavy price from its new master, beginning a horrifying descent into damnation. Arthas's path would lead him through the arctic northern wastes toward the Frozen Throne, where he would face, at long last, the darkest of destinies. (Book Review: Revolutionary Road)
(Likability of Characters is Irrelevant)
(A Classic Piece of Literature)
(Alarmingly relevant still) I grabbed this book on impulse after trying (and failing) to watch the movie adaptation. I started the DVD too late in the evening and just didn't get into it. The book had me enthralled from the first chapter and I devoured it over the course of 2 lazy and decadent days where I found myself almost completely lost in the life of 1950's suburbia. Seriously, this book is a dream come true for those who truly love to read. The characterizations, the narrative, the dialogue - all breathtaking. I won't even try to summarize the plot; you simply have to read it for yourself. It's a journey well worth taking. The Review
Revolutionary Road is a story that brings forth the broken lives and deserted dreams of a "regular couple" living in the suburbs of America in mid-1950. April and Frank Wheeler have a marriage that is based on, what, exactly? Fear? Obligation? Duty? Or, was it love? Did they love one another in the way that a married couple should? I'm not sure.
This is the story of a young couple, Frank and April Wheeler, who move to "Suburbia" to live out the dream of the house, the kids, the yard, the neighbors. Frank commutes to the city via the train every day to work for a company that his father once worked for. He views the job as something much less than he ever wanted and has absolutely no passion for. Yet, like most parents whose choices are limited, he goes to work to collect that paycheck. April is a mother of two and a house maker, as were most in her day. April lands herself the lead in a local community theatre production of The Petrified Forest. Despite her good performance, the amateurish nature of the production (i.e. forgetting lines, sounds offstage, director stepping in for lead actor, etc.) left quite a bit to be desired. Frustrated and upset, April takes this "failure" too much to heart. As Frank takes her home, April displays the first of her emotional breakdowns that separate her from him. Frank does try hard to build the bridge back to her heart and April shuts him out.
The reader is introduced to their neighbors, who are their friends. Through get-togethers with one another, the reader is led further into the minds of Frank and April. It is after one such social evening that April apparently decides that a major life change is in order for them each to find true happiness in their world. She decides to lift herself from her brooding depression and tell Frank that they should sell everything and move to France. There, she rationalizes, she will work at the Embassy and Frank can spend time really deciding what he wants to do for a living and be in this lifetime. With nothing to lose, Frank agrees. After all, on that very day, his 30th birthday, he had "hit his bottom" in both his career and marriage after sleeping with one of the secretaries from the office.
Revolutionary Road is not only the name of the street they live on, but exactly what The Wheelers are on: a path of change. But, when the unexpected happens to them and dreams are once again shattered, events eclipse their renewed glimpse at happiness and closeness. It's how we deal with difficulty that defines our character and certainly Frank and April are not role models for dealing with disappointment.
With Tennessee Williams being one of the "quoters" on the back cover, you know this book has some good substance to it. This book was first published in 1961 and was hailed to be a "modern American classic." Considering the date, this book was ahead of its time. It is expertly and precisely written with outstanding character development. You know The Wheelers, how they think and why they are broken inside without it being spelled out for you. You find joy in yourself when they are in moments of closeness and you find yourself rooting for them throughout the book.
On Sher's "Out of Ten Scale:"
I am glad that I read the book before I see the movie. I am a big fan of Kate Winslet's. I have posted a preview of the movie for y'all to see. I'm really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. I think that Kate and Leo will bring April and Frank even more alive for me. Listen, the book isn't perfect and the story has considerable sadness to it, but it is a very good book despite all of that. I'm not making sense, I'm sure. This book is a tragedy, but one that is easily related to. For the genre Fiction: Drama, I'm giving Revolutionary Road an 8.5 out of 10 (not quite an eight... and, yet not quite strong enough for a 9).
A book club I participated in had a very lively discussion of this book which encompassed social, cultural, and psychological trends of the Fifties: a debate about whether the Wheeler's fate was due to their own behavior or the social pressures of the times; the rhetorical device of irony and how that reflected the author's tone; a comparison of the book and the movie; the novel's many themes. We didn't discuss whether or not the characters were likable. Such a concern means that the reader is looking for entertainment rather than the understanding that can come from engaging with serious literature. Revoluionary Road is a work of pure literary genius. The plot, characters, and settings are developed so thoroughly that readers will feel as if they have just stepped back through time. This is a rare, one-of-a-kind book that will surely make you stop and think. Avid readers--add this to your reading list. I had low expectations for this book, since the movie pretty much bombed, but found the subject matter to be suprisingly relevant, given that this was written in 1961. The characters, though a bit shallow, do seem real, and this book had me thinking for days afterward. The rediscovery and rejuvenation of Richard Yates's 1961 novelRevolutionary Roadis due in large part to its continuing emotional and moral resonance for an early 21st-century readership. April and Frank Wheeler are a young, ostensibly thriving couple living with their two children in a prosperous Connecticut suburb in the mid-1950s. However, like the characters in John Updike's similarly themedCouples, the self-assured exterior masks a creeping frustration at their inability to feel fulfilled in their relationships or careers. Frank is mired in a well-paying but boring office job and April is a housewife still mourning the demise of her hoped-for acting career. Determined to identify themselves as superior to the mediocre sprawl of suburbanites who surround them, they decide to move to France where they will be better able to develop their true artistic sensibilities, free of the consumerist demands of capitalist America. As their relationship deteriorates into an endless cycle of squabbling, jealousy and recriminations, their trip and their dreams of self-fulfillment are thrown into jeopardy.Yates's incisive, moving, and often very funny prose weaves a tale that is at once a fascinating period piece and a prescient anticipation of the way we live now. Many of the cultural motifs seem quaintly dated--the early-evening cocktails, Frank's illicit lunch breaks with his secretary, the way Frank isn't averse to knocking April around when she speaks out of turn--and yet the quiet desperation at thwarted dreams reverberates as much now as it did years ago. Like F. Scott Fitzgerald'sThe Great Gatsby, this novel conveys, with brilliant erudition, the exacting cost of chasing the American dream.--Jane Morris, Amazon.co.uk In the hopeful 1950s, Frank and April Wheeler appear to be a model couple: bright, beautiful, talented, with two young children and a starter home in the suburbs. Perhaps they married too young and started a family too early. Maybe Frank's jobisdull. And April never saw herself as a housewife. Yet they have always lived on the assumption that greatness is only just around the corner. But now that certainty is about to crumble.
With heartbreaking compassion and remorseless clarity, Richard Yates shows how Frank and April mortgage their spiritual birthright, betraying not only each other, but their best selves. Rerations < Revolutionary Road (Movie Tie-in Edition) (Vintage Contemporaries) >

customer 's review (Not really a toy, but high quality bookbag)
(Cute Wall-E Backpack)
(Cheaply made, falling apart after only a month)
(Great value)
(Wall-E Backpack) The rating descriptions for this item were for a "toy", so I felt the rating system was a little unfair. This is not really a toy that is educational or fun, but a high quality bookbag from a popular Disney movie. It really serves it's purpose and holds up well to the wear and tear of my 5 year old--even when several books are carried in it. I would highly recommend this for others. I bought this for 4 year old son who goes to preschool not realizing how big it is. But that's ok, the backpack is really cute and colorful, and he loves it. The stars light up but the down side of that is that the backpack will need to get washed and that will ruin the lighting up feature.
One thing that i noticed in that one of the side pockets is already missing a couple of stitches. But it is not really a big deal, at least yet. I am hoping that the backpack is as durable as my son's old elmo backpack.
I overall recommend it, it is way cute and cool.
My son loves Wall-e, and I paid dearly for this backpack only to discover that the fabric between the main compartment and the pockets frayed and tore not even a month after starting to use it. My son is in pre-school, and doesn't carry books, only his lunch and whatever craft project he's done. Imagine how quickly it would fall apart if you were using it for an older child! Don't waste your money. If you're going to spend almost $20 on a backpack, get one that's more durable. My son was extremely happy with this backpack, he loves the movie and it was almost impossible to get a Wall-e bag anywhere. It is big enough for a 2nd graders daily needs and durable. Bought this backpack for my son's first day in kindergarten. He loves it and it is very roomy and durable. He is the only kid that has it in his class. Tag Feature says "Light Up Stars"

(Indy Returns!!!!!!...Lego Style!!!)
(Legos! Why do they have to be legos?!)
(Lego Indiana Jones is awesome for father and son gameplay) This game is so fun that I had to call in sick to keep playing it! Every scene and adventure protrayed in LEGO form! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! A really fun game for the entire family. We bought it for my six year old, I was a little worried he wouldn't be able to figure out all the levels but he loves it and already has it mastered. This game is so much fun! I've been waiting to get it since it came out. It lives up to and even surpasses the quality of the first Lego game, based on the first (I, II, III) three Star Wars movies. This game follows the movies almost pefectly, except that at the end of the first (except that Indy doesn't have gun - but he uses his whip and his fists!), at least the first one anyway, becase that's the only one I've seen. :) You can even unlock the beginning of the new movie! (which I haven't yet). You can also create your own character. Overall this game is 6/5 stars and I would recomend it to anyone Finally!!!I've waited for this game since Lego Star Wars came out. It was better than I expected because Lego Batman sucks. I am a huge Indiana Jones fan. The only problem is they should've included Kingdom of Crystal Skull, then this would be the ultimate game.Still it's the BEST Lego game ever!!! After playing Lego Star Wars Classic II this game is an easy transition to keep you in the Lego Universe. I play this game (as well as both Lego Star Wars) with my 4 yr old and 11 yr old boys. It's a blast with 2 person co-op and not blood or bad language. It's well worth the price.

(Great set of 2 DVDs - 300 minutes!)
(the 3rd season)
(Realy great dvd)
(Great show, highly Recommended) Ben Tennyson is on summer vacation, traveling around the country with his grandfather Max and his cousin Gwen. During this vacation, Ben has become owner of a device called the Omnitrix, which he can use to turn into any one of 10 (and more) super-powered aliens. Since then, Ben's fought a lot of sinister villains, and he's saved the world several times. Still, summer's not over yet. Season 3, like Season 2, picks up where the last season leaves off. Only, this season, we go on adventures like never before. This time around, we see Team Tennyson in the distant future(as adults&older adult no less) as well as Team Tennyson heading to outer space in an attempt to save the Earth from total darkness among other things. Not only that but we find out many revelations in this seasons episodes that might change things for The Tennysons. In this season, Ben has to use his wits alot more and not just his powers to save the day. Extras, I'm afraid, are a bit less this season. There's a couple of deleted scenes, a handful of Ben 10 promos, a preview for the live-action Ben 10: Race Against Time DVD(which is excellent, btw), and a slideshow of alien designs. There's plenty of superhero action this season. Will not disappoint you in the least, I assure you. Ben 10 is awesome!
Great set of 2 DVDs - 300 minutes! Our kids love Ben 10 and so much footage seems like an excellent value to my wife and I. Ben 10 continues to grow in popularity and appeal. This season Ben learns even more about the Omnitrix and the secrets it hides and gains a few new powers in the process. Almost always with comical results but he also gets a chance to see himself, Gwen and Grandpa in the future and what might or might not come true for him. Old enemies return and a few new ones surface as well. It's a show for not only kids but others of all ages as well. I'm sure the next season of Ben 10 will only continue to draw in more people as the word catches on about this quirky yet appealing show. Ben 10 season three is realy great it is better than all the rest of the Ben10 dvds but not quite as good as the complete season 4. You will also see new aliens such as Upchuck,Benwolf,Benmummy and Benvictor there are also a couple of new villians. I also suggest the new movie:Ben10 Secret of the Omnitrix Season 3 - Still Ben 10, still a great show to enjoy with your kids. Movie DVD Rerations < Ben 10 - The Complete Season 3 >

(The original NATLAMP writers would have a field day)
(This is NOT a complete collection)
(A Mixed Blessing)
(Incomplete) I enjoyed paging through and reading some of those old issues of National Lampoon, especially the ones I remembered reading as a kid when they were new. It's easy to spend an hour or more going through just a few issues.
The scans are fair at best, sometimes unreadable, but they appear to be the best that's available so far. At a $30-$35 price for 246 issues it's still a good value for me. The contributing writers of NATLAMP would have a field day with the quality of this disk. I can see the parody now; Sweat shop, Cheney like figure slashing the whip, dirt munching troglodytes lining up to purchase the product that, though inferior in quality, is the best they could ever hope to expect according to the corporate scum that purveys the sub-standard gnosh to them.
And still... I'd buy it for my best friend. Where else can you hope to find the most insightful and raunchy screed of the era???
Thanks... It was a blast. I gave it two stars only because of what actually WAS there. It was nice to be able to see these again without spending a month browsing auction sites. Otherwise I'd go one star or less.
This collection must have been pulled from someones basement. Many issues are missing whole segments, and I think at least a couple of entire issues are missing.
The source material looks worn and faded, and the scans are awful. Pages are misaligned and often the last few lines of text are cut off or covered by the watermark. And the PDFs are locked so you can't correct any of this. Also the disk doesn't play on all DVD drives. I can load it on my desktop but on my laptop the autorun hangs, and none of the folders will open.
If you are feeling nostalgic, go ahead and get this, but only on sale and don't go in hoping to see your favorite bits again. They probably won't be there. Overall this is a good idea thrown together by people who don't give a damn. Those of us who went to college in the early 1970's surely remember the "POON!" It was far more irreverant than Mad Magazine, and when the "POON" attacked, it did it with gloves off. The National Lampoon was the Holy Grail of everything that was subversive and irreverent to the counter culture.
And now at last, those of us who loved that magazine can relive those days, albeit in a cruddy quality .pdf scan product.
We have favorite unforgettable articles, quotes and 'foto funnies' stamped into our minds from the "POON,", although to do an archive search of this disc takes on the average, a day. But it is better than nothing. Those of us who loved the "POON" have two options: One is to go to used magazine stores and online auctions to find old, faded National Lampoons or get this disc that has scans of all the old, faded episodes, then waste hours of struggle trying to find our favorite articles.
Yet, in a sense, America has outgrown the National Lampoon. Those of us who used to laugh at it's anti-establishment philosophy are now THE establishment! Most of the stuff we used to laugh about now is archaic and no longer funny. We grew up. It is interesting to note all the old advertisements in the "POON." Mostly about cigarette papers, booze, records, turntables, tape machines and high end vintage 1970's stereo equipment. (The stereo equipment it advertised now seems like dinasaur relics in this day of 15,000 song iPods in our pockets :)
So for an interesting struggle down Memory Lane, this DVD-ROM collection beats nothing. Yet caution must be observed in viewing it, lest it may cause us to "Jones" for the "good old days." Does not all of the articles published by National Lampoon - there appears to have been some censuring - BOOOH! HISS!!
Takes forever to search.
This DVD appears to have been made from page scans and many articles are not very readable. Revisit the irreverence, immaturity and ceaseless hilarity of every issue of the National Lampoon monthly magazine covering 29 years, from April 1970 through November 1998. A total of 246 magazines featuring legendary humorists such as Michael O'Donoghue, Henry Beard, Chris Miller, Doug Kenney, P.J. O'Rourke, with classic artwork by Dick Hess, Rich Meyerowitz, and Bruce McCall. Rerations < National Lampoon >

 | Carl Carl Fredricksen is not your average hero. He's a retired balloon salesman, who is forced to leave the house he and his wife built together. But instead of moving into an old folks home, Carl takes action. He ties thousands of balloons to the roof, lifts the house into the air and sets off for South America, fulfilling the promise he made to his wife years before. However, Carl's plan is challenged by the discovery of a stowaway, the optimistic, overly eager Russell. Carl's journey tests more than his patience when the duo must survive the extreme weather, treacherous terrain, and strange inhabitants of a lost world - as well as each other. | | Russell Russell is an enthusiastic and persistent 8-year-old Junior Wilderness Explorer. Armed with a backpack laden with gear, he is ready for the wilderness. The problem is that he's never actually left the city. All his knowledge of the outdoors comes from books, and his sole camping experience was in his own living room. He's just one "Assisting the Elderly" badge shy of achieving his lifetime goal: Senior Wilderness Explorer. When he targets Carl Fredricksen as the elder he will assist, Russell ends up as an unwitting stowaway on Carl's porch when the house takes flight and finds himself on the true outdoor adventure he's been dreaming about. | | Kevin Named "Kevin" by Russell, this extremely rare, 13-foot-tall flightless bird is hidden from the world in its remote Paradise Falls habitat. Kevin is exceptionally fast and nimble despite its size. In fact, the massive bird often gets into some very curious and seemingly impossible positions. Very few know that this scientifically valuable creature exists, but Carl and Russell stumble upon the bird, which Russell names Kevin after he discovers they share a sweet tooth. Kevin and Russell bond instantly, and despite the bird's propensity to swallow Carl's walker, Kevin joins the jungle's most unlikely pack, along with Carl, Russell and Dug. | | Dug Dug is a lovable golden mutt living in the wilds of Paradise Falls as part of the dog pack searching for the rare, flightless bird. Like the rest of his pack, Dug is outfitted with a remarkable high-tech collar that translates his thoughts into speech. But Dug is mocked as the nerd of the pack. Sent into the jungle on a "special" mission, Dug accidentally succeeds when he discovers the bird following Carl and Russell. As they're pursued through the jungle by his own pack, the sweet, but simple-minded Dug must decide to which pack he actually belongs. |

(Fun to create dvd's&Easy to use.)
(ok but save often)
(Crashes with no fix)
(Makes editing video easy) Regretfully, a PC cannot cannot do what a mac can - my computer (windows XP) crashed 2x. It would have been nice if this worked because now I have to consider buying a mac. The program was relatively easy to use but when you put in hours on a project (only 18 minutes total) and the program slows the whole system down, it is a waste. I've bought a previous dvd producer product by Sony and it totally sucked, however when I recieved this, it was so easy to use. Everything is straight to the point, you don't have to wonder where everything is because it is sectioned by categories. Its a great software to use and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for software to make dvd's with. The biggest problem for me was a out of sinc situation. It seems with frequent cutting using the mouse its easy to condense a section which got voice out of sinc. I started over and this time after a save I would go into vistas directory and copy and paste the save with a new name. if it screwed up I could go back to an earlier save that has a different name(it didn't this time). I really like however the features they all worked well were intuitive and video came out excellent. Adding zoom and pan to pictures gave them movement and was completely customizable on any point in the picture and any degree. The fades were numerous. The magic producer (one click editing) I used was beter then the preset menues and I used their design and music in final design.
When the software works, it works fine. Nothing great, and there are problems with the audio lagging on some video clips that make them look like dubbed kung-fu movies.
The big problem is that the software crashes constantly (I am using Vista OS). At first, I just got random crashes, but lately every time I try to edit a video clip using the trim or split features, it crashes. Technical support has been no help. Their only "solution" is to uninstall -- including editing the registry of your computer -- and reinstall. This solution worked for me once, but the second time I had the problem, not even that worked. I am going to finish the open projects I have been working on, but I will not use it again, and am going to purchase a more stable program.
Bottom line -- buy something else. Very good product, edits video with relative ease. Does take a while to learn some of the tricks&just getting the nack of some of the features. Powerful Video Editing With Unlimited Possibilities Rerations < PowerDirector7 Deluxe >
