The interesting selections are B-sides Did You No Wrong, I Wanna Be Me, Satellite and No Fun; four very important songs, since they hint at the group's potential without the drama drummed up by Malcolm McLaren, which ultimately led to style over substance and the departure of John Lydon.
Besides delving into demos, alternate takes and concert releases (bootlegs and official bootlegs), this CD gives a full picture of Lydon as lead vocalist, which is all one really needs to know about the band.

Well... kinda) 『Ideally yes, this is better than Nevermind The Bollocks in terms of giving you all the essential Pistols tracks (if you get the imported 20 track version versus the 17 track version). That being said, some change in mastering must have occurred between this and the latest cd release of Bollocks because these tracks sound a little hollow ("tinny") compared to that CD.
Truthfully, the difference is not enough to bother anyone except for more astute or intense fans who are used to the sound of the songs already. So, if you're a newcomer to the Pistols, this is a great start and possibly finish to your collection. If you're already a fan and just want everything in one place, maybe not so much. Plus, it's the edited version of "No Fun", which just sort of cuts off at the end. Wish they would just sell the first disc of the boxed set separately.』

(Fun but not terribly informative) 『As a fan of exploitation films, I was excited to see this documentary. Unfortunately it is merely fun, without any clear thesis. Particularly annoying is the fact that the filmmakers don't identify the film clips, so that one who is unfamiliar with exploitation films would not be able to find any of the individual films that interested him or her. Also, more focus is put on nudity than is necessary; the effect is to "undersell" drug films, eugenics films, and white slavery films, among others. (Indeed, the documentary does have considerable nudity, although it's usually fairly innocuous.) A much, much better introduction to exploitation films is Eric Schaefer's book " 'Bold! Daring! Shocking! True!': A History of Exploitation Films, 1919-1959." Watch this documentary for fun; read that book for information.』
(Fun Flicks, So-So Documentary) 『This DVD set is a great collection of campy flicks, shorts, and trailers. You get a diverse serving of full length features from the pioneering days of exploitation films, from dope maniacs to pushers to premarital relations to nudists.
I was disappointed in the documentary on the roadshows. If you know absolutely nothing about the history of exploitation films and their distribution, you will learn a little something. Unfortunately, this documentary barely scratches the surface. You get a little narrative background on the nature of these films, followed by examples via clips from the films. Problem is, these"film clips"go on and on and on, where they could have illustrated the point with just a few quick snipets. This production needed tighter editing. Too bad, because this is a fascinating subject that has the potential to be a great documentary (KEN BURNS! Are you reading this?).
David Friedman, who is featured in the documentary, wrote a really good account of his years in the roadshow and B-Movie biz called"A Youth In Babylon."Would love to see a film feature somewhere along those lines!
If you have an interest in viewing the actual exploitation films in their entirety, this is a good find. If you want a good historical background, pass this by and hope for a better documentary up the road!』
(GRIND HOUSE GREATS) 『In the 30's and 40's, the exploitation film business was at its peak. Promoters and producers like the legendary David F. Friedman and Dan Sonney "bicycled" their prints from town to town across heartland America. With titles like, "Child Bride," "They Wear No Clothes," "She Shoulda Said No," "Strip Tease Girl," "Reefer Madness," "Dance Hall Racket," "Victims of Passion" "Tia Juana After Midnite," Flesh Merchant," and "A Virgin In Hollywood" they packed drive-ins in the sticks, small town main street theaters and skid row scratch houses for a week and moved on. The movies, made for the lowest possible price, had several things in common: a subject too controversial for main stream studios, a moral message that incorporated a lurid title with the highest possible titillation factor, cheap sets, bad acting and the willingness of the "actresses" to wear skimpy clothing or none at all.
"SEX AND BUTTERED POPCORN" (VCI Entertainment, ...) is a magnificent four disc, ten hour, set that mines this rich lode of exploitation films from six decades ago. "Sex and Buttered Popcorn" also the title of the stand alone disc..., is a terrific two hour plus documentary narrated by Ned Beatty with numerous film clips, lurid trailers and bonus shorts including a vintage Tempest Storm strip tease in color. Three additional discs, "Tease, Sleaze and Social Disease," "Sex, Sin and Salvation" and "Grandad's Forbidden Follies," each feature several full length classics of these accurately labeled sub genres and include ample bonus material, mostly vintage "nudie cuties" and wonderfully lurid exploitation poster art.
I had a lot of fun watching this wonderful collection of often hysterically funny, pseudo serious films on so called taboo subjects. Far more entertaining in fact than most DVD releases. However,"S&BPC" is also a fascinating look at this misunderstood fringe of the film industry. Writer director Sam Harrison, III, should consider doing a sequel on the earliest days of the somewhat darker territory of the Peep Show "loops" and the people who starred in and distributed them.』

Bad or good, if you are a fan of the series - you just have to see the movie. And fortunately, this movie spin-off doesn't end up totally badly. What can we expect, anyway, from a big franchise such as this? Product placements all over, no less, like it's the designer names' and Vogue's field day. Three years after the series finale, somebody has got to make up for an update in today's couture via our four beloved girls. In an over-the-top-it's-almost-in-bad-taste way, that is. Honestly, during the first half of the movie, I was ready to walk out if I saw another Pucci-whatever print dress, pair of oversized hoop earrings or ankle boots. If these girls have enough money to wear labels, couldn't they have bought something appropriate yet equally fabulous for the trip to Mexico? I am very disappointed in that red dress Miranda wore... I mean, to a resort, dear? I thought the character was much more sensible than that.
My version of the Jessica Zafra moral lesson is - "make your wedding day all about the dress, and you bring it upon yourself if that's all you stand next to at the altar." I'm not going to lecture about materialism because this movie is obviously not about moral lessons anyway, but it's just that the first half reminded me a lot about why I never liked Carrie Bradshaw in the series until she got her karma in Berger. When she took off her glasses in front of the mirror in Mexico, I wanted to say, "Girl, you should've spent as much money on anti-ageing creams as on your Manolo Blahniks, 'cause I think Big got scared seeing a preview of the future."
And so as her karma unfolded, the movie, too, started to redeem itself, with its focus on relationships. The writers seemed to have gained the upper hand over merchandising department this time. The new character Louise was a fresh touch. I liked the parallelism in Carrie and Miranda's fight and the latter's relationship with Steve. And the tear-inducing scenes that make it the quintessential chick flick have totally overshadowed the predictable happy ending for every character (yes, including Javier and Anthony) in the movie.
Predictable, yes, but it is what we came to the theater for - to see our modern day heroines remind us about the value of friendship and forgiveness and being your own self, whether you live in the city or not.』
(Great edition to my love of the show, but not great within itself) 『I loooooove sex and the city the show; i thought it was funny and still is one of my fave shows. and of course like any other fan i was excited to know a movie was in the works. the final product however...not as great as i expected.
First off, i don't think Carrie and big should be married. I think the show spent its entire series showing how, at the end of the day, these two people were just not the marrying kind. And after being together for 10 years all of a sudden, on a random day of the week, Big (of either one, he is the most shocking to suggest it) just throws out the idea of getting married--and then is the one that calls it off! I think a better storyline for them would have been to stay happily coupled and adopt. I also would have liked to have seen more about their relationship day to day. The whole movie for them was basically the planning of their wedding, them breaking up and then in the last 20 minutes getting back together...I don't even know if they had that great of a relationship to begin with seeing as how the series ended with them back together. I would have liked to see how their relationship improved, if at all, from the roller coaster it was on the series in more than just a few scenes of them looking at a house and reading in bed.
Miranda and Steve's problems were predictable if you know anything about Miranda. Not saying that Steve was justified but Miranda getting consumed with work and neglecting her husband didn't feel that far from conceivable.
Samantha didn't even seem like herself anymore! This was a woman that prided herself on her fabulosity and glamour but in the movie, she lets herself go by gaining weight? As I recall, she wanted a boob job on the show! And true Samantha would have NEVER let that hot neighbor tease her like that ESPECIALLY while her and Smith were having problems. And speaking of Smith, he seemed like such a sincere, down to earth guy on the show but I guess the fame he acquired changed him, showering Samantha with expensive gifts instead of support and acting like a complete jerk after blowing off valentines day! (and walking in with a box of chocolates? c'mon, if you're this big star with all this money and obviously can afford to buy her expensive jewelry on any other occasion, it did not seem realistic that of all days, valentines day, all he would have thought of was some candy!) And speaking of valentines day--Samantha going through those lengths for any man? Not believable. And then waiting up for him like a disgruntled housewife? The Samantha I knew would have got all dolled up and went out looking for a new guy at a hot, new club once Smith screwed up.
And Charlotte....I don't have anything to say for her character cause the script didn't give her much. It seemed kind of forced that she would be pregnant all of a sudden after the drawn out storyline during the series of her struggles with conceiving. And am I the only one that doesn't think that the toddler lily looks like a believable older version of that picture Charlotte had from the series finale?
And I keep reading comments about how people are confused by Anthony and Stanford becoming friends which I agree with but I was also more confused by the disappearance of Standford's boyfriend Marcus. If i'm not mistaken, didn't they end the series with them still together? But in the movie, all of a sudden he's gone and now Stanford has grown closer with someone he hated on the show. I admired the fact that SATC included a gay storyline in the series with Stanford and his relationships along with the heterosexual ones with the girls and was interested to see how they would continue that with the movie, hoping that Stanford and Marcus would still be together proving that gay relationships can be just as long-lasting and fulfilling as straight ones (especially given the continued struggle the gay community has with proving the validity of their bonds and trying to legalize gay marriage). But they gave Stanford, or any gay character for that matter, nothing and I was disappointed in that.
Also, yes we all know that fashion was a character on the show but it was a between the lines placement, i felt. It seemed like just a normal part of their lives, naturally occurring but in the movie it was definitely forced. The part about Carrie's involvement in that Vogue article seemed like the movie's way of giving her an excuse to dance around in labels for a photo shoot--we get it, she loves clothes--and did she really need to tell us all the designers who made them? Did they give some type of incentive for having a mention in the movie, because that's how it felt to me. And how perfect that she gets to keep one of the dresses for her own wedding--again, a moment that I felt was fake and was forced.
Jennifer Hudson's character was fresh as everyone agrees but I don't know if I was comfortable with her acting. I mean, for the role, its not like she needed to bring an Oscar performance but there were definitely moments where her emotions seemed fake and her talking sounded like she was reading directly from the script or reading from cue cards. But it was nice to see another African American face since, lets face it, there weren't hardly any on the show which was odd to me because NY within itself is very diverse.
All in all...I was happy with what they put out only because I think I just really miss the show and the movie was like an extra episode for fans who were tired of watching the reruns on TV. But I must say, as a fan, they could have done much, much better. Hopefully they realize this with the sequel....』

One major issue is that the screen writer clearly has an understanding for how race plays out in film, yet still deliberately creates a movie that is racially insensitive. Typically, media is viewed seriously for subtle racist messages, and unfortunately, this movie fails although appearing to be just the opposite.
Costner is presented as the hero for which the movie cannot do without. He has a whole cast of sidekicks to help him to complete the task including the black limo driver that he recruits by informing him that if he doesn't become his side kick he will be killed because the "cocky black soffer" always dies by being in attentive. The driver is a racial stereotype of a young lazy black man that has to be directed by a white superior. The writer clearly understands that these racist roles are created for blacks but chooses to recreate bad roles for African Americans. I do not know why.
The depiction of black women in this movie is also extremely poor. Whitney Houstan is not just spoiled; she is sexually irresponsible. She is a stereotype of a successful African American female. In one screen she almost has sex with the man plotting to kill her because she is angry at her boyfriend Costner, and wants to make him jealous. Her character is immature. Her sister is so sexually dysfunctional that she attempts also to sleep with Costner even though she knows that she would be sleeping with her own sister's lover. I have an issue with this. Not only does it reproduce patterns of male domination (females cannot be trusted) it also depicts black females as being sexually immoral. Like Houstan, her camera sister is extremely immature and needs the guidance of a white male played by Costner.
The character of Rachel leaves much to be desired as far as a woman is concerned. She is inconsiderate and abuses the people that work for her. She also sexually harasses Costner and than tantrums on her own employee when he stops sleeping with her. We are supposed to view that in line with her Leo character type, but her character is really just immature. It doesn't make sense either since a singer as successful as the one she is playing would have to have a lot of discipline. The portrayal was just unfortunate.
Costner's character is the usual white male come to fix problems all the problems of irrational (black) people. That Costner must in fact fix the mess made by these two sisters is reaffirmed when Rachel's sister ends up being the one behind the murder plot. It is really just pitifully prejudice. Blacks cannot have legitimate threats against them without them really being about killing each other. Rachel's sister is jealous, murderous, and caddy. The actress cast is one of the most beautiful minority women but she is in the role of a criminal that would kill her own sister over petty jealousy. The story is really ridiculous, and sad to point out, but it is a racist movie.
I like Costner, but his character also needs tuning. He is emotionally constipated to the point of being abusive. He beats up some man just for giving him lip. He also jilts Houstan after sleeping with her, and this is supposed to some how prove that he is better at his job. It just places him in the position of being in control rather than his female partner. That seems to be the main function of the scenes inclusion; a white male is always in control no matter how subordinate his position realistically would be.
The interracial love story would be interesting if the couple did not break up at the end of the film for no appealing reason. The problems with this film could have been corrected easily, by simply making Houstan more mature, removing the jilting scene as it doesn't make sense, and not breaking the couple apart at the end of film--the major change would also be not making another black person really behind the murder plot. 』
(Does anyone need a Bodyguard?) 『If you are looking for a bit of romance and drama, but just on the light side, then The Bodyguard doesn't disappoint. Costner and Houston have great onscreen chemistry. It worked well being that she is a rock star and her life is probably close to most of what we see...hopefully, without the dangerous drama. The storyline has its weak spots but watching Costner and Houston play the game of love/hate/love again makes it worth the time. Of course, Houston's dynamic voice adds to the entire enjoyment of the movie. Couldn't help notice how nice it was to not hear either of them or anyone in the movie mention "race"...just two people who fell in love. I've seen it a few times and will probably watch it again. 』
(A movie trashed by the critics but embraced by the public) 『If one can gather from the success of this film, don't always listen to the critics reviews--they can be wrong too. For instance, the esteemed critics, Siskel and Ebert once dismissed a film called "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" as just fluff but history proved that the film would endure and in fact has had several DVD releases including one in Blu-ray. I'm not saying that this film is an artistic triumph like Costner's "Dances with Wolves" or Eastwood's latest films like "The Changeling" or "Letters from Iwo Jima", but as a pulp film, it's a success. My acting coach at the time in San Francisco called it "enjoyable trash" and I agree with her. If you don't expect a lot, you'll get a lot. I really like that this film in the pre-Obama era, played down the inter-racial angle and more the conflict between celebrity and private life. Like Obama has stated there are more important issues to deal with than just the racial aspect--and this film proved it. Houston was never more alluring and Costner is pitch perfect as the Zen like ex-Secret Service man who is reluctant to continue his assignment of protecting a pop star he has fallen in love with--"never get involved with the person you're protecting". Now that Houston's career is on the mend, it would be great if there is a sequel. Surely the ending of this film hints at that!!』

I had heard about it from other couples that had read it as part of their pre-marital counseling. I heard nothing but good about it. The content I found was less than riveting. If you have studied about sexuality before in any detail you already know the things he will say. It may be insightful for your spouse. My husband learned some things. However, it did not improve our sex life at all. Knowing names of things does not make things work better. He went into berating Christian parents for raising their children with a "guilt" complex, and puts far too much stock in the idea that sexual suppression stems from there. Perhaps it is because I am from a younger generation that I felt so offended. So that very well might be helpful to those that felt like they were raised by people that believed in the stork. Furthermore, I would not call this a "Christian" book. I am sure the author is honest in his claim to be one, but this book ought not to be categorized as one. He equates masturbation as a valid medical procedure. Let me clarify he supports the spouse going off alone to masturbate in order to "improve" the couples sex life. This was by far the most damaging thing he could have ever put on paper. Medically it is not wise for a man to reach an orgasm outside of sex in order to 'last longer.' It will work only in the short run, and in the long run it will make sex shorter, and possibly lead to premature orgasms, because the mind will separate the orgasm from sex. I could not believe he did not know this FACT. Not to mention the very real danger of lusting. How is it wise for a man or woman to seek out arousal AND satisfaction without their spouse around? Who or what on earth is arousing them? Perhaps it is a valid medical procedure for women in general, but I would never want to act adulterous by seeking sexual pleasure without my husband. (Sadly Accurate...) 『Having watched the show, I came across the book and decided to read. I actually have a bit more respect for him than when I was watching the show. The guy has really made a career for himself. Despite that his book is a how to guide on how to pick up women (and fairly accurate, sad to say), I have to admit that he writes it and shows a certain type of respect. I originally thought such blather was about preying on women's insecurities. In fact, I don't know that is what he is talking about at all. I mean, some of his suggestions do amount to trickery. But he does appear to show a certain desire not to get slapped and that is certainly communicated.
Relative to other books on the subject, this is far better. I haven't read some of the pieces that people who have rated this book low have read. However, I don't know that I would agree with others that this book doesn't give solid advice. As a woman who gets hit on fairly often, I feel qualified in saying that some of the most basic stuff is really what men are lacking in their approach. The fast talking stuff, is pretty worthless, except for the saddest portion of our gender. In fact, it doesn't actually matter what you say, it's more how you say it and then how you react after you've got her attention.
If I had a good guy friend who had no game, I would definitely suggest this over others on the subject.』
(Why Mystery's methods will not work for you.) 『The great flaw in the mystery method is that it assumes that the girl you are hitting on in a club or a bar is actually paying attention to you and is following closely what you are doing or saying. Usually, they're not. Women go to these places for the social atmosphere and are having numerous conversations with multiple people all night. I'll bet numerous guys have tried the mystery method only to be repeatedly frustrated as the targets of their "sets" keep moving on to talk to someone else. If a girl in a club is actually paying close enough attention to you to notice the things Mystery tells you to do, then she already likes you and there is no point in trying mystery's games on her.
Now if you try this stuff outside of the bar scene, say, at work or at a social gathering, people will think you are a tool. When you meet people in casual social situations, they expect you to be putting your best foot forward, so if you start using negs, bait and hook, or "freeze-outs" you are going to sound immature. Neg that hot female co-worker of yours and then use a false time constraint, and she will be glad your rude butt is leaving. Freeze out someone and they will simply find someone else more genial to talk to. Mystery seems to think that being slightly rude or condescending will make strangers fight for your approval, but in reality, they will just avoid talking to you.
Overcoming last minute resistance is covered in the last chapter, and it's a felony. The good news is that if you have followed the advice in the previous eight chapters of this book, then you will be dateless anyway and you will not have to worry about this.
The underlying assumption in this book is that it is possible to replace your current personality (which drives people away) with a new personality that attracts people. This is possible to a certain degree, but books like this are not the way to do it. What you really need to do is confront your own issues and find out what it is that causes you to act in such a negative way to begin with, and then address those issues on your own. There is no need for having game if you learn to be a positive, not all about yourself, emotionally healthy person who is attractive in his own right.
The personality mystery wants to give you is not a healthy one - it is the personality of a self centered and clueless man who thinks that all the women he meets will be helpless against his stealthy manipulation skills. But true manipulators can only work their craft after they are in a relationship. Beforehand, this sort of stuff will be picked up on in a heartbeat by anyone you are trying to get to know. Everybody looks for "red flags" in their potential dates, and this book is a handbook on how to give off the red flags saying that you've got serious issues and should be passed on.
Mystery sells his techniques by padding them heavily with all kinds of jargon and off base analysis to make them appear scientific and well researched, but what mystery is actually teaching is some very basic a-hole behavior that your potential dates will pick up on and be unimpressed with. The only game mystery is playing is on the men who buy his book. 』

I bought a 9 in these because that was the only thing available close to my size. They seem to fit pretty true to size for me especially with thicker socks that I will wear with these in the winter months. I do have thin calves and they fit me well in the legs but they do run a little tight and would not fit thicker calves especially with jeans tucked in.』
