(SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES)
(Sex with you is Kafkaesque....)
("I Love Being Reduced To A Cultural Sterotype")
(my favorite movie about a relationship, ever.) I was discussing favorite films with a friend (East coast Jewish), who raved about Annie Hall. I said I didn't like Woody Allen. I'd seen a couple of his movies and wasn't impressed. She said, "Well, there is a lot of New York humor in it, maybe you wouldn't know the references." OK, I AM from Ohio, but I am NOT a rube! I really wanted to tell her off, but I watched Annie instead. Then I thanked her for offending me, because this movie is wonderfully quirky and very funny. Since then, I have had to watch every Woody Allen movie. Not all of them are good, it's true, but some are absolute gems. Annie Hall is a gem.
It's a romantic comedy about an unlikely couple, dialogue-heavy, and sprinkled with flashbacks of Alvy's life before Annie. You must listen to the dialogue to appreciate the film; this is key to appreciating Allen's work. If you don't pay close attention, you'll miss the very funniest bits. I was chuckling throughout the film, by the end, I had a stomachache. I'm so glad I watched this. In the 20 years since, I've laughed over it many times.
I noticed after watching that it's paid homage from time to time. For instance, the TV show "The Simpsons" lampooned the lobster scene. References to this movie are ubiquitous. Even if you haven't seen the film, you've seen bits and pieces copied. It truly became an iconic film.
By the way, I am not a fan of romantic comedies in general, so I don't have a lot of patience with the genre. But since I took my friend's dare, I've also taken the opportunity to watch "Manhatten Murder Mystery," "Bullets Over Broadway," and the brilliant "Match Point." My universe is expanding. Love this movie and watch it more than once more than twice. This movie is a classic and never gets old. But, on what CD could I find Diane Keaton singing "Seems Like Old Times"? I am a singer and just down loaded the lyrics. She has such a sweet voice and should record. Come on Diane, you can do it!! Go figure. I'm a right-wing conservative but I love Woody Allen and I especially love Annie Hall. It is, no doubt, a generational thing. I knew her--or somebody very much like her--and it's still bittersweet. I loved her and I love Annie Hall. What else is there to say.
Ron While Woody Allen had a large, devoted cult following which began around the mid-sixties, it wasn't until the release of the highly acclaimed, academy award winning `Annie Hall' in '77 that the rest of the world finally caught up with this comic giant and brought his cutting edge cinematic style into the mainstream. His self-analytical persona was perfect for the growingly narcissistic American public and the way he introduced the audience into the storyline of his films by intermittently turning towards the screen as though it were a person and engaging the viewer with questions and comments was nothing short of pure genius (The legendary Bob Hope made use of this active audience participation technique years earlier but not to the extent and effectiveness as Woody).
While my particular favorite Woody Allen film happens to be `Love and Death released in '75, I can see why `Annie Hall' is by-in-large the film most people will point to as his apex in filmmaking. It really is the ultimate American comedy containing all the 20th century angst his name as become synonymous with; fear of failure, fear of success, fear of relationships, fear of being alone, fear of an ever-expanding universe. We find ourselves in his insecurities and his self-loathing in such classic statements as, `I just don't want to belong to any club that would have me for a member". We've all been there at one time or another in life. That's what makes it so hilarious.
If you have only one Woody Allen film in your personal library it should be this one (well, maybe you should throw `Love and Death' in there too)! Someone told me a few years ago that I'd love "Annie Hall," and I held off seeing it because that person was an ex-boyfriend. But he was right - and it is a great movie about a maddeningly wonderful and neurotic ex-girlfriend.
basic, basic plot: Woody Allen's character reminisces about his already-done relationship with Annie Hall. It's funnily sad, not sadly funny, which is probably the best way to look back. Diane Keaton and the supporting cast all work well together. It's not at all dated.
I laughed a whole lot through it and it is honest in its depiction of how a relationship doesn't necessarily need some major drama to end - sometimes, it's just time to go, and the getting out is tough. In that sense, I found this movie surprisingly realistic, and wish more movies would explore this less exciting, but equally interesting dimension of human relationships.
What isn't realistic, however, is how TOTALLY GORGEOUS the cinematography is. I wish all our memories of falling in and out of love in a city were so lovely. Watch it with someone you can talk about it with. I had no idea so many scenes from the movie were ripped off, and it is a testament to how groundbreaking it was. Studio: Tcfhe/mgm Release Date: 08/05/2008 Run time: 93 minutes Rating: Pg Annie Hallis one of the truest, most bittersweet romances on film. In it, Allen plays a thinly disguised version of himself: Alvy Singer, a successful--if neurotic--television comedian living in Manhattan. Annie (the wholesomely luminous Dianne Keaton) is a Midwestern transplant who dabbles in photography and sings in small clubs. When the two meet, the sparks are immediate--if repressed. Alone in her apartment for the first time, Alvy and Annie navigate a minefield of self-conscious "is-this-person-someone-I'd-want-to-get-involved-with?" conversation. As they speak, subtitles flash their unspoken thoughts: the likes of "I'm not smart enough for him" and "I sound like a jerk." Despite all their caution, they connect, and we're swept up in the flush of their new romance. Allen's antic sensibility shines here in a series of flashbacks to Alvy's childhood, growing up, quite literally, under a rumbling roller coaster. His boisterous Jewish family's dinner table shares a split screen with the WASP-y Hall's tight-lipped holiday table, one Alvy has joined for the first time. His position as outsider is uncontestable he looks down the table and sizes up Annie's "Grammy Hall" as "a classic Jew-hater."The relationship arcs, as does Annie's growing desire for independence. It quickly becomes clear that the two are on separate tracks, as what was once endearing becomes annoying.Annie Hallembraces Allen's central themes--his love affair with New York (and hatred of Los Angeles), how impossible relationships are, and his fear of death. But their balance is just right, the chemistry between Allen's worry-wart Alvy and Keaton's gangly, loopy Annie is one of the screen's best pairings. It couldn't be more engaging.--Susan Benson Rerations < Annie Hall >

(Hilarious but dirty)
(Duck! Here's Robin!)
(robin williams on broadway)
(Robin) This was truly a disappointment. I have always liked Robin Williams' movies however I did not realize the foul nature of his "humor". Not only was the language a self-contest of how many foul words could he condense within a given time period, but the humor was dry to non-existant. I really tried to finish the dvd, like a bad movie you hope to find some redemptive value in; but could not. Even my 26 year old son didn't find it humorous. Robin should stick to movies. I have watched this video over and over. I don't think it will ever get old. Be ready for nonstop comedy. There is not a moment where you are not laughing. Robin Williams uses very strong language in his stand up routine however, so this may not be for the whole family. Much of his humor is sexual, hence the TV MA rating. If you like that kind of humor, you will not be disappointed. Robin Williams is a brilliant stand-up comic, a highly original talent who gives an over-the-top, irreverent, profane, iconoclastic, hilarious performance. It's a very funny show. Williams is alone on the large stage, his only prop being a small table loaded with bottles of mineral water. He is constantly gulping and spilling water while he sweats profusely. The bottles are used at times very comedically to demonstrate various functions. Williams has a myriad of targets: the haughty French, President Bush, Osama bin Laden, the augmentation of body parts, cats staking out their territory, Viagra, the child molestation scandal involving priests, various churches and denominations, his own hairiness, etc. The list is long. His delivery is rapid-fire, frenetic, and sometimes too hectic and too harrowing. He is trying hard, sometimes working too hard for laughs, but he almost always hits a homer. It's definitely not for the kiddies or for the prudish or linguistically timid. Little is sacred. It's a very visual, animated type of humor which relies on his actions as well as his words. An audio version would not do it justice. He's crude; he's coarse, but not as wild in his use of profanity as George Carlin. He returns to certain themes and riffs with the French coming in for extra jabs. It's a broad type of almost slapstick humor that doesn't seem as satiric as just plain funny. He'll do almost anything for laughs, with the visual often topping the linguistic. Nine Lives Too Many The Daemon in Our Dreams The Rice Queen Spy Clawed Back from the Dead I always like Robin Williams stuff....even when his shirt is literally dripping sweat like on here! This is one of his best stand ups. If you have not seen it you should. Studio: Sony Music Release Date: 02/24/2004 Sharper and deeper than Robin Williams's previous road material,Live on Broadwayis a mature comedian's view of all things to do with power, prejudice, and paranoia in the 21st century. On the anthrax scare of 2001: "The Senate cleared out of their building but told the rest of us, 'Get on with your normal lives!'" On his solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict over Jerusalem: "Time share!" On the pitfalls of America's deepening alliance with Britain: "The House of Commons is like Congress with a two-drink minimum." A viewer may have to slog through Williams's tedious breast fetishism, but patience is quickly rewarded with bitchy takes on Martha Stewart facing prison, solid satire about French existentialist judges at the Olympics, and subversive op-eds about the Bush administration's inability to clarify terrorist threats to the public ("Has the CIA become the Central Intuitive Agency?").--Tom Keogh Rerations < Robin Williams - Live on Broadway >

(A hot, edgy premise doesn't necessarily mean a hot, edgy film)
(Porn in disguise... but good porn (and good disguise!).)
(MICHAEL WINTERBOTTOM, OPUS 13)
(HOT!) I like art house films. I like the idea of using real sex to tell a story- if it a story worth telling.
This movie has no story. This movie has no characters really, simply songs and sex.
This movie could've worked had there been an actual script, character development, and some cinematography. There was none of that.
The concert scenes were uninteresting. The sex scenes were cold and yet the audience is supposed to believe that Matt actually loves Lisa. There's no emotion between the two, no sense of attachment, no feeling that they even like each other.
Many people argue that this movie isn't porn but I completely disagree. I think the director had a vision that was good in his head but failed on screen. There are far sexier, more erotic, more romantic movies out there and I'd highly recommend you not waste your money to see what the hoopla was all about it because that's all there is to this movie- sensationalism.
You'd think that a short movie that alternates between edgy, alternative music performances and extended sex scenes between two young people would at the very least be minimally engaging, but I found "9 Songs" to be fairly dull. The music is murkily shot from the cheap seats, the presumably high resolution video photography doesn't seem very high-res at all, and the two young people just aren't very interesting as movie characters. The girl is kind of cute, I'll give the movie that, and some genuine steaminess seeps into the proceedings here and there. But the smattering of good sex is done in by inane acting, frequent dull stretches, and mostly unmemorable music. If sexy indie film fare is your occasional cup of tea, you could do a lot better. The DVD has a fair amount of special features, but my lack of enthusiasm for the movie has thus far kept me from watching many of them. If you're one of those people who loves watching sex on TV but doesn't like renting or buying porn, then you're in luck: 9 Songs is definitely for you. With more sex (and much better cinematography) than late night HBO, Showtime and even `Skinemax,' 9 Songs is a hardcore art film with little in the way of plot or story and lots of hot, raw, steamy sex.
An official selection of film festivals around the world, I've been wanting to see 9 Songs since I missed it at Sundance. Having heard a lot about it, I had high hopes and was expecting to see a great story of love, set to the soundtrack of nine songs- the length of the movie. Having seen it, I can't say that I regret it, but the film itself didn't exactly knock me out of my boots.
Sociologically 9 Songs is very interesting. That someone (Michael Winterbottom) would make a film with actors engaging in graphic, real sex is certainly a statement on the time and society we live in and it's definitely not all bad. In fact, it was kind of interesting. The story- a man and woman's short (but very passionate) romance- was less enthralling and indeed parts of the film are confusing until (or unless) you watch the extras, explaining what the Antarctic has to do with a love affair in England.
Gloriously shot, the filming and camera work is beautiful, and the characters themselves are interesting; the actors did their job well. There's just little to hold the story together, save for the sex and concert footage dividing the film.
SPECIAL FEATURES
The special features- especially the interviews with the actors and director- bring the film together and raise the interest level greatly. Sharing why he made the movie and explaining some of the details left a bit vague in the film, Michael Winterbottom talks about the sex, the reaction, and the process of casting and filming 9 Songs. Both Kieran O'Brian and Margo Stilley also discuss their feelings on filming the largely unscripted film, dealing with the sex and its repercussions on their careers, and their experiences making the film.
Winterbottom also discusses the use of footage from live concert performances, as well as the bands' (and their respective management) relation to finding out that their music was being used in a sexually explicit film. The special features also include an option to watch a Concert Performance Only track, the Original Trailer and a featurette on the Bands from 9 Songs. ***1/2 2004. Written and directed by Michael Winterbottom. An American student and an English scientist live a passionate love affair between two rock concerts in London. Very explicit sex scenes in this film which is an UFO in the non porno movie production. Now, is this film worth its boldness ? I personnally think so. It describes a slice of life of an average modern couple establishing a relation based on sex only and its limitations. In this perspective, 9 SONGS is the direct heir of such movies as Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris and Nagisa Oshima's In the Realm of the Senses. Recommended. Sex, nakedness&rock music - what else could you want?
I thought this movie was simple - it cut through all the filler you normally find in porn movies - unnecessary dialog, weak storyline etc... it go straight to the point - this is a movie about SEX&ROCK&ROLL&they abound :)
I thought the sex scenes were excellent, there was real chemistry between the leads&they looked like they were actually enjoying it which is a nice change from hardcore porn (for me).
Not to mention I thoroughly enjoyed the concert clips.. I was definitely totally tuned on&I totally rocked out!
I enjoyed the way this movie was shot&the natural feeling to it all...playful&sexy!
WONDERFUL, 5 stars! Studio: Genius Products Inc Release Date: 06/27/2006 Maverick director Michael Winterbottom wondered about the double standard of why novels can have explicit sex scenes and be legit and films could not. So his short film of a relationship based solely on sex and a love for music is the result of that thought. If the definition of a porn film is to shoot actors performing graphic sex scenes for real, then9 Songsqualifies. It certainly doesn't feel or look like your standard whoopdee-do XXX feature. It's as glossy and low-budget arty as Winterbottom's24 Hour Party PeopleorI Want You. But yeah, Matt and Lisa do everything to each other, and the actors are not "just acting" in some of the sex scenes. No matter how landmark the movie might be, there is not much story here (at least a book with hot sex often has a good story to it). Lisa is an American drifter in London who hooks up with Matt, a scientist who studies glaciers in Antarctica. They have sex and visit nine rock concerts including Franz Ferdinand and The Dandy Warhols. As advertised, you can't find these musical performances anywhere else, but we just see them from way back in the crowd. The film has an essence of how someone can find bliss in another person's body, and the emotional, magical weight that can hold over you. But that spell doesn't last. Since the sex is real, Winterbottom had to cast unknown actors, and they really don't make an impression, especially with the lack of story.--Doug Thomas Rerations < 9 songs - Unrated Full Uncut Version >

(Great Way to add a little Something to sex play..She will love you for it.)
(Mood KILL!)
(WOW!!! I LOVE THIS!) We both enjoy using the product and its been made even better by the new easy open packaging. The product is quieter than others we have tried without any noticable loss of power. Unlike others who have purchased this product we have never come accross one that didn't perform. We love these things. We are definately ordering another box as soon as we use up the first. Bye the way, they are only supposed to last 20 minutes but we got an hour and a half out of the last one we tried...:)
Don't hesitate, buy it! OK everyone...These are really enjoyed by the Women. Its funny this was our first sex toy and now is almost a necessity. Guys still have all the fun with their woman as usual. But now the woman gets a little bit extra stimulation that the man can't really give while he is BUSY. (ha ha).
The vibration is at a comfortable speed and should not disturb even some of the more sensitive women. Just a nice steady vibration.
They are NOT LOUD...and NOT IN THE WAY.... They always stay on...never seem to fiddle out like cheap knock offs.
I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU TRY ONE...your woman will be asking for them all the time going forward..."Can you put one of those thingy's on?" Ha Ha Three out of six of these didn't work. How better to kill the mood than having to fumble around for not one, not two, not three, but FOUR before you find one that works. I would not buy these ever again. They are not cheap, yet the quality is very cheap. I should write Durex and get my money back. Don't let this happen to you. I have tried other "plastic" toys and have found them to be to big and to much work. This one works great!! It is so easy to use and is small enough that you can place it in "just the right spot"!!! I do like the fact that it is disposible and is "sanitary". No more cleaning afterwards!! The price may be a little high, but there are so many positives that I cannot complain to much. Thanks. My husband and I are really pleased and will continue to be a return customer. Rerations < Durex Play Vibrations, Vibrating Rings, Value Pack (6 Rings) >

(Great stuff)
(I love it!) Great service. Didn't like the smell of this one as much as others. Great quality though this oil is really good... however, i wasnt happy with their service. took much longer than what they said to arrive. Great stuff. Wonderful aroma and not sticky. Makes your skin nice and smooth. OK, now for something short and sweet. When my lover places this oil on me, its wonderfully nutty/musky odor permeates the room. I cannot describe the smell, but can only say that I love it. Indeed, I love this oil so much that the smell has become something of an aphrodisiac for me! I love the feel of the oil on my skin, and have found that it has a great moisturizing effect, working better than just about any moisturized I have used. We have experienced no problems with this oil, even on the more sensitive areas of our bodies.
Yep, we love this massage oil, and highly recommend it to you. If you want to please the lover in your life, then get him or her Kama Sutra's Pleasure Garden massage oil |
