The DVD follows a couple as they enjoy pushing the boundaries of their sexual lives. The couple is in marriage counseling where they talk with their therapists about the pleasure and sometimes discomfort of their adventures. This venue provides an interesting alternative to other "educational" DVD that fail to present a negative side to experimentation. Despite the title, only part of the DVD is devoted to the couples' swinging fantasy. The erotic scenes are explicit and well photographed. We follow the couple as they make love in rooms other than their bedroom, experiment with outdoor sex with erotic scenes of them purposely making love knowing that a man is watching from the bushes. Yes, and finally the couple connects with another couple in an attempt to fulfill a swinging fantasy. Here the two couples make love to their own marriage partners together in the same room. In the final scenes the couple declines the offer of making love with the other couple. The sex scenes in this DVD and their very unusual settings are highly erotic.
The DVD is very good, and teaches us that the journey of pushing sexual boundaries pays benefits by spicing up our primary relationship. However, I think it also teaches that it is wise to enjoy the pleasure from the journey rather than locking on a certain fantasy such as swinging. Swinging, like any fantasy can sometimes become more uncomfortable than fun when played out, and as we have learned, many times it simply does not happen. 』

There is absolutely no detailed analysis of the oral sex or other techniques, and the clumsy way the guys use their hands and tongues (as in Vol 1) makes you cringe, when you consider how GENTLY you should actually touch a woman's vagina/clitoris.
Despite their ages and supposed 'experience', the guys are clueless and the advice content of the videos is very basic and of very little value. The whole Better Sex series is grossly over-rated, and this is another very poor DVD in that series.』

Repulsion is a film directed by Roman Polanski and is his first English language film. It is about two sisters from Belgium who are living together in a London apartment. While one goes on vaction, the other decends into schizophrenia and madness. The film is a psychological thriller and was given an X rating in the UK upon its release. It is indeed dusturbing and I recommend it not be shown to children.
Unlike the previous Roman Polanski film released on DVD by the Criterion Collection, Knife in the Water, it is possible to pause this film, and to scan the film forwards and backwards.
The DVD includes a 2003 documentary on the film's production, a 1964 French documentary about the film's production, Audio commentary from 1994 with Roman Polanski and actress Catherine Deneuve, and two theatrical trailers.』

(Newly Restored, director approved DVD) 『For the viewers that didn't like this film, if they were expecting a film like Psycho, this is not that film. In any case, this film was quite effective at depicting, a character on the edge of sanity, who is schizophrenic, and has paranoid delusions, which leads to violence and psychosis. The films, visual elements carries the story through expressive camerawork and lighting, and only uses sparse dialogue, to tell Carol's story. A different approach to a similar theme of mental illness, was the film A Beautiful Mind, by Ron Howard, which also deals with schizophrenia, and paranoid delusions, but is presented in such a way so that the viewers can identify with what the central character is going through, although, it's hard to tell, what's reality or fiction, and what is just a form of storytelling for the screen.』
(Dark and stylish horror) 『The Bottom Line:
Roman Polanski's impeccably shot horror film about a repressed women devolving into madness inside her apartment complex, Repulsion doesn't have the urgency that the director would bring to Rosemary's Baby three years later but it's a worthy film in its own right, delivering chills on a fairly regular basis and featuring a dementedly good performance by Denueve in the lead; if you like horror that doesn't involve a masked serial killer than pop this one into your DVD player of choice.

(Just imagine...) 『...being in the audience of a theater that was showing this for the first time back in the 1960s. The slow decay of the star is even unnerving in this day and age and I'm sure it was a shock back then. It was an enjoyable movie and was pretty disturbing, but thanks to all the desensitization of the modern age, it will probably lose some of its scarier parts due to the fact that it's just not "that scary" nowadays. The star really made it seem like to the viewer that you were truly watching someone unravel. The Criterion version has a nice crisp transfer in B&W and it is great! Yes we do love a horribly low budget straight to video releases but also have a big place in the stocking for some corny 80's comedy. Despite the fact that most 80's films are well loved among the masses they do walk the line of b just perfect enough for Sid to get plenty of enjoyment. Fast Times at Ridgemont high is one of those classics that never seems to lose it's luster.
We won't bother with the synopsis since almost everyone on earth has watched this at least once before. If you haven't it's pretty much your typical high school 80's comedy except with a great cast along the board. Naturally Sid's 2 favorites are stoner Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) and Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates) for obvious reasons. Spicoli's constant baked dialogue is just perfect and Linda's famous scene getting out of the pool is possible the finest 80's moment in history. It certainly gets the Santa seal of approval. Sid 100% has and will always love this flick and plan on honoring Spicoli at this years Woody Awards for the best stoner lifetime achievement award.』
(Not to be Missed) 『This film is about (mostly) middle class high schoolers during the opening years of the 1980s. The Sixties are over. Generation X has yet to define itself to an America that has begun its post-boom economic decline. Aids is not yet in the popular lexicon. (You get the picture).
The technical aspects include well crafted editing and brilliant acting by a young Sean Penn and many others, including Ray Walston of My Favorite Martian and Damn Yankees fame. In Ridgemont High he steps aside from his roles as, respectively, a martian and the devil, to play a U.S. History teacher named Mr. Hand, that tries to get through to a group of young people whose minds are on their next date--or in the case of Penn's character, Spicoli, their next bong hit or pizza.
Spicoli appears to be out to lunch-- in the case of the pizza delivery to class, literally-- until he surprises the teacher one fine day with an astute--if not wholly coherent--paraphrase of America's most cherished and legendary history.
Fast Times is a heartwarming, coming of age film that encapsulates American youth at a fascinating time in history. Not to be missed!

(Empty Comedy? Maybe Not.) 『This is actually more of an interesting movie than we would be inclined to give it credit for. It basically shows us the lives of different types of high school students. (Not to mention some teachers.)
Stacey and Linda are interesting. Stacey is the young naive girl ever ready to shed her virginity. She follows the advice of her friend Linda (who means well), but does not think as much as she should. Stacey ends up getting hurt, but she grows to the point where she sees that having love and friendship is much nicer than simple sex.
Linda is the more sexually experienced girl, but rather predictably, she gets hurt with her own fascination.
Mark and Damone are an interesting pair. Damone is the ever sexual predator. But he carries a charm despite his repulsive actions. And to some extent, he does realize that some of his actions were wrong.
Mark is the 'geek.' But we also come to realize that he is not only on the smarter side, but he is in fact a really nice person. Undoubtedly, under Linda's advice, Stacey gets upset when Mark isn't ready for sex. But the truth is that just because Mark wasn't ready for sex, that did NOT mean he didn't care about Stacey. And soon afterwards, Stacey gets HURT badly. (Going back to Mark, there is something really funny about how everyone tries to see his answers during the final exam.)
Charles Jefferson is the one weak link here. He is a stereotypical Jock, and he offers no real personality. The wreck of his car is an annoying intrusion, and it really doesn't fit. Unlike the other characters, he does no real growing.
Undoubtedly, the favorite pair in this movie is Sean Penn and Mr. Hand. While they have a bad teacher/student relationship, at times it looks like a father/son relationship. Mr. Hand is hard, but he is fair: "Get used to doing your own business on your own time. You wouldn't want me to come to your house some evening and discuss U.S. History would you?" As hard as Mr. Hand gets, he is right when he says: "This class is for your own benefit." The reconciliation of Mr. Hand and Sean Penn is drawn rather well.
Moving on, Stacey's brother Brad is worth mentioning as well. He is probably the closest to a 'normal kid.' He works hard in jobs he really doesn't like; but he knows he needs the money. In an especially sympathetic moment, he is brutally fired from his job for a DUMB reason. And he is especially helpful to Stacey when she has BIG problem. In many ways, it's so appropriate that Brad has his moment of glory in the last scene.
Another character worth mentioning is the eccentric Mr. Vargas. He appears to be a strange teacher, but he is really likable: "Look, I am a little slow today. I just switched to SANKA. So PLEASE, have a heart." There is something utterly comical about how the students are shocked when they see that Mr. Vargas's wife is especially beautiful. Like Mark, he is strange, but nice, as well as smart.
In all honesty, this is not just empty comedy. It shows us real students who have weaknesses and problems. But they are also likable and even Damone has some notable redeeming qualities. The teachers are not without likable qualities either.
This movie is worthy of at least a chance.』
(Ah yes...High School) 『The gold standard, Absolute must see for anyone who went to high school in the 80's. Not just craziness, but a real story behind all the fun. And whoa,Jennifer Jason Leigh is unbelievable naked.』
(Great movie, even after its prime) 『I recently saw this movie for the first time, and while it is slightly outdated, it was still very entertaining. There isn't really a main character, just a conglomeration of role players, and that helps the movie turn out well. Spicoli is hilarious as the high-guy at school who cares about nothing but warm weather, surfing, getting high, and saying "dude;" Judge Reinhold was in there as the normal guy who gets sick of the same old stuff, different day routine of his life; the girls in the movie are attractive, but without personality, as expected, the dorky guy who likes one of the attractive girls, plus the guy who is just a total a-hole, Dimone - they all blend in together very well for a fun, fast-paced movie.
I think everyone can identify, in at least some way, with one of the major characters, or even a minor one (in some respects, now again, I'm saying this in a relative comparison to the 80's) and this makes the movie somewhat real.
A good movie to watch with the guys, or just in a group environment. I thought (but did not review) that "In The Realm Of The Senses" was a fascinating study of obsession (sexual). The write-up for "Empire Of Passion" promised something similar. Imagine my disappointment when I viewed the film and discovered that it was neither sexy, scary, raunchy, nor particularly spooky. It never explains why the man and woman are so drawn to each other, and their attraction is not otherwise obvious.Generally, one must be patient in viewing Japanese movies, and must give them time to unfold. However, the pace of the movie is simply boring, except that it proceeds from rape to obsession in one instant jump, without any information to help the viewer understand WHY it went from a rape to obsession. The only positive thing that I can say about it is that the photography was well done. It is otherwise, in my opinion, a waste of both time and money.』

Though the sudden spark of obsession seems a bit implausible, the rest of the story carries out well as the couple sink deeper and deeper into their passion for one another to the exclusion of other important things. (It Does Go On) 『I thought the practice of depicting unsimulated sex outside of pornos was something that only began recently in movies like 9 Songs and Intimacy but, no, here in the 1976 joint French-Japanese production "In the Realm of the Senses" is all the explicit sex you could ask for: copious nudity, penetration, age inappropriate couplings, and things it had never occurred to me to do with a hard-boiled egg. Fans of Tatsuya Fuji's semi-flaccid member need look no further. Because the movie consists almost entirely of unblinking depictions of sexual acts it can get a little boring. The only real plot arc is an ever deepening repertoire of kink, and the deliberately claustrophobic atmosphere ultimately wears on you in a bad way. By the end I wasn't shocked at the characters' transgressiveness so much as annoyed by their irresponsibility. Breath play can be safe if done properly! What's the matter with you people, don't you read Dan Savage?
However, a lot of my impatience with the movie was due to the fact that I lacked the cultural context. Only after I had finished watching it did I read the essay in the booklet the accompanies the disc and learn that "In the Realm of the Senses" is based on a real event from 1936 that has entered Japanese folklore and been the subject of other, less explicit, films. Presumably a Japanese audience would have already been familiar with the basic story, so would have been more likely to find the single-minded fixation on sex to be an interesting retelling rather than disconcerting or dull. Apparently the movie is also a commentary on the sexual repressiveness and growing authoritarianism of 1930s Japan, though I didn't pick up on that at all. The one scene of Imperial Army soldiers marching down a narrow street seems disconnected from the rest of the action, and if all you had to go on was this movie, you'd think that pre-war Tokyo was just one big orgy.
As a Japanese cultural artifact, a case study in late-twentieth century obscenity laws, and a representative of a certain affectless style of cinema, "In the Realm of the Senses" is interesting, but I can't say that I enjoyed it.』
(Ghost Story Not for the Faint of Heart/Obsessive, Spicy Love story bonus) 『This film is a visual masterpiece. The whole movie is done in a small village, with almost all the interior scenes in one room in a small country hut, yet you think you have taken a voyage there so talented is the director in shooting the scenes in angles that make you feel you are living the experience rather than viewing. The forest and fields are amazing, the change of seasons and hours of the day, even the way that the water falls in the basin in the hut is poetry. Winner of the best director award in the Cannes film festival in 1978, the story is built on an erotic melodrama combined with a ghost story horror elements. It takes place in Japan circa 1895, in a small village, an attractive woman named Seki (Kazuko Yoshiyuki) is married to a rickshaw driver , Gisaburo (Takahiro Tamura) who is clearly older, and disillusioned with his life. Although they have two children and lead a hard life, they seem content, though we see very quickly into the film that Seki is more than ready for an adventure to bring some inspiration into the dullness of her life. Her youthful features make her the target of the attentions of a retired soldier, Toyoji (Tatsuya Fuji) who happens to look extremely attractive in his black military jacket with no shirt and a sexy mustache. The two develop a flirtation, until it leads to Toyoji raping Seki in one of his visits. She tries to fight him off but it feels too good and not even the crying from her infant son can distract her from this fatal attraction, so she succumbs, and the two begin a passionate, sexually intense affair. Obviously Toyoji has had a lot more experience in life and he manipulates Seki into joining forces with him to kill her husband. The murder scene occurs after she has been serving her husband food and drink all night and he has collapsed totally drunk, what follows is a quick, almost painless strangulation that is pretty quickly over, followed by a very laborious effort in dragging the body to a well in the woods where they throw it, all done in the middle of a snowstorm. I am sorry to report that we feel more sympathy for them than for the dead husband. While he seemed defeated and resigned to a life of hardship these two criminal lovers have an enduring, maddening attachment to each other that is very touching. One can not but think how happy they would have been had they lived in a different environment where divorce was possible. They are happy together for three years and suddenly, out of nowhere and with no prior warning, the ghost of Gisaburo comes back and starts wrecking their lives. The interventions of the ghost are some of the most beautiful scenes in the movie: The fog around him when he carries the rickshaw, the pallor in his face and hands, the crazed reactions of Seki, it's what makes the movie an exquisite experience to watch and we await breathlessly for the next time he is going to appear. The love scenes are intense but in no way pornographic, however I have read in one of the reviews that there is a discrepancy between the time period in the DVD box and the actual running time.
