(Smith's best film)
『I've always felt (and still do) that Chasing Amy is Smith's best film. The writing is fantastic, the performances engaging and the story adheres closer to reality than any of his other films. Certain cinephiles are known for disparaging Smith for his rudimentary camera set-ups. In reality, his work is all about the writing and those who obsess over camera angles and visual style are missing the point.

I was a little hesitant to pick this release up after reading the review on [...] that quibbled with the visual quality and transfer. We'll, I put the disc on back to back with the Criterion regular DVD and the Blu-ray is far, far superior in every way. The film was shot on 16mm and so it's never going to look as sharp as other films like Mallrats that had larger budgets. Perhaps without the DVD as reference I would have quibbled too, but clearly this is a HUGE improvement. Perhaps still a little softer than necessary due to grain reduction or whatever but I can live with it.

Save your money and stick with the Criterion DVD release or at least wait until this blu ray drops to a reasonable price.』

『In 1988, an independent film directed by newcomer Steve Soderbergh (who would go on to direct the films "Erin Bockovich", "Traffic", "Oceans Twelve", etc.) would achieve prominence as the film was the spark that helped revolutionize the independent film movement in the 1990's. Winner of the Palme D'or at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival, winner of the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, the indie film would also earn a nomination for an Academy Award and would be the beginning of a long, prosperous career for Steve Soderbergh but also the four main talents of the film: James Spader ("Stargate", "Boston Legal", "Pretty in Pink", "White Palace"), Andie MacDowell ("Groundhog Day", "Hudson Hawk", "Four Weddings and a Funeral"), Laura San Giacomo ("Pretty Woman", "Just Shoot Me", "Saving Grace") and Peter Gallagher ("The OC", "Short Cuts", "Californication").

The film which cost about a million dollars to make, went on to receive critical success and earn $24 million in the box office. "sex, lies, and videotape" became a big hit for independent film studio Miramax Films and the film was selected and preserved by the United States National Film Registry in 2006 as a film that is "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" and in 2009, to celebrate the film's 20th year anniversary, "sex, lies and videotape" receives its first High Definition Blu-ray release.

VIDEO&AUDIO:

"sex, lies, and videotape" is featured in 1080p High Definition (1:85:1). For the most part, the picture quality has a fine layer of grain but also shows quite a bit of detail as we can see the skin pores of Andie McDowell. You can see the details of the characters quite clearly. The transfer is not perfect as I did see a few instances of dirt and even artifacting. But I have to admit that this is the best I've seen of the film compared to its Criterion Collection LD and DVD counterpart.

As for the transfer, the same Interpositive Element from the original 35mm Camera negative which was used in the 1988 DVD was scanned 4K DPX Files, as a potential source for future remastering. The 2K files were color timed at Technicolor using the 1998 transfer as a color reference. Also, a substantial amount of dirt was cleaned up utilizing version 7 of MTI DRS and splice bump correction using Autodesk Inferno.

The audio of the film is presented in English and French Dolby TrueHD 5.1. The sound although lossless sounds very good. Dialogue is clear and understandable but at the same time, audio doesn't utilize the surround channels as much as I was hoping for it too. But this is explained through the restoration special feature that Soderbergh felt it important to present this film with its original 1989 mix. The goal of the audio restoration was to remove any snap and pops throughout the film but focusing on audio being a front and center channel for "sex, lies and videotape" and minimal utilization of subwoofers and surrounds.

Subtitles are featured in English, English SDH and French.

JUDGMENT CALL:

When "sex, lies and videotape" was released, I can remember that I was thinking that this would be a bold film that showcased a lot of nudity. Of course, the film is not anything like that. But I felt that watching it now 20 years later versus watching it when I was in my teens, I felt that I have much more appreciation for the film more now than ever.

Soderbergh has went on to create many wonderful films since "sex, lies and videotape" but what has captured my attention about this film is his how he kept the film simple and concentrated on the details around the four characters. He mentions in the commentary of his influence of Eric Rohmer (who created the popular films as part of his "Six Moral Tales") and the long dialogue between characters. Maybe it made no impression to me back then but now, any director who can have their characters engage in dialogue with meaning and profoundness is wonderful.

Andie MacDowell was the surprising star because in the beginning, I thought she would be the typical jilted housewife but we see her character emerge as one that is confused to one that finally gains perspective. Laura San Giacomo did well in portraying the free-will Cynthia (which she would go on to do again in "Pretty Woman"), John Mullany (Peter Gallagher) was the ultimate sleezeball and for Graham (Spader), his character was mysterious and although the viewer doesn't know exactly what had happen to him, it's how the character was changed after changing the character he videotaped.

As the film itself, one can see how this independent film helped revolutionize indie films and allowing media coverage. Sure, we see independent films, arthouse films receive media coverage today but in the context of independent films getting seen by a wide audience, "sex, lies, and videotape" was definitely instrumental in being part of that small group of films that Hollywood would give a chance to. And of course, without this film, we wouldn't have awesome films by Steven Soderbergh such as "Erin Brokovich", "Traffic", "Out of Sight", "The Good German", "Che" and "Schizopolis" (although we can leave Soderbergh's "Oceans" films out of the list).

As for the Blu-ray release, this is the best the film has ever looked and the restoration was definitely important for this 20th Anniversary release. The only problem that I have with this release is that if they were going to show that 20th Anniversary reunion, why not show the entire Q&A session? They show bits and pieces of it and that is my main peeve of this release. We are seeing more and more films given the anniversary treatment on Blu-ray with the reunion Q&A sessions featured in its entirety, I would have loved to see this Q&A at Sundance in full. Also, some of the features are from the original Criterion Collection LD from nearly 20 years ago, so quality is not exactly that great. But nevertheless, it was good to see Sony include that on this Blu-ray release.

Overall, for those who enjoyed the film or Soderbergh's work will definitely want to add "sex, lies and videotape" to their Blu-ray collection. Although the film was once a Criterion Collection release (on LD), it was great to see this release have almost a Criterion feel with is restoration technique explanation and also amateur filmmakers will enjoy Soderbergh's audio commentary as well. Definitely a solid Blu-ray release worth owning!

『In 1989, this movie might've been way ahead of its time, but in 2009. the film hardly stands out among movies dealing with relationship crisis. The movie has good. solid performances from the cast, particularly Andie MacDowell, but no one performance is extraordinary.』

(Provocative and intense film about intimacy)
『This is not really a film about sex. It's about intimacy, which can be physically sexual or not. It's about the possibility of connection, of making contact, and of taking responsibility for the impact of one's life upon another. Mere "sex" becomes a surrogate for intimacy, what we search for when we are unable to be honest with ourselves and our significant others and acknowledge that our self is bound up with these others. Mere "sex" - as in the "casual" fling John carries on with his wife Ann's sister - is then a lie, in a double sense: it has him cheating on his wife, and it manifests his refusal to admit the manifest truth that his desires, his needs, are bound up with those of others.

Graham (in a brilliant performance by James Spader), has organized his life precisely to avoid the lie that John embraces. He is brutally honest with others, but to avoid any hint of deception he also refuses to be intimate with anyone. He uses the video camera as a distancing technique, creating an objective filter between himself and the women in his life - pitting them as objects of study rather than subjects in a dynamic relationship, whose parameters he could not ultimately control. Of course, his little experiment doesn't work out as he plans, and everyone in his life is affected. The story is simple and direct, the dialogue pitch perfect, the acting top notch, and the direction quite appropriate. One of my favorite films, and certainly deserving of its status as one of the most important American independent films. I also found the commentary track, in which Neil LaBute (In the Company of Men) interviews director Steven Soderbergh, to be quite fascinating. Highly recommended.』

(Brief yet thought-provoking story)
『The running time isn't too long on this, yet it conveys a great deal of material involving two men and two women--specifically, one married couple, the wife's sister (who is having an affair with her brother in law), and the man's friend who comes around for a visit and decides to stay. His presence becomes disruptive, even though he is not aggressive. His hobby is making tapes of women talking about sex and related issues and then watching the tapes.

The mousy wife becomes more aggressive herself when she turns the tables on the tape-maker and forces him to face himself and his motivations. She also discovers more about herself and her husband and sister in the process.

This is a quiet film with a lot of talking, so it will not appeal to those looking for a sex romp or lots of action. This is more of a thought-provoking film.

I just wondered at the end if the wife confronted her sister, and if the husband would continue to spiral down.

『I remember when Wake was first making the rounds on the blog-o-sphere. It was before I had started this blog and before I began reviewing books in earnest, so at the time I had entered a contest to win the ARC, but hadn't given it much thought otherwise. When it came out it wasn't even on my radar. It first came to my attention when my sister, after searching my shelves, asked me 'Why don't you have that book with the pillow on the cover?' To which I responded 'Huh?' And thus did I find out about Wake (and its sequel Fade).

The writing is rather choppy at times, which I have no problem with since my writing tends to be like that, but rather then making it hard to follow or feel incomplete its more like a person is telling a story through a photo album. This is where Janie first finds out about her gift(or curse). This is when Janie first met Carrie. And so forth. I suppose for some that makes it odd, but for me I found it easier to immerse myself in the story with that sort of thinking.

Janie's life isn't easy and that's without factoring in her 'Dream' powers. Her dad is a non-entity, her mom spends almost all her time in a drunken stupor, she has trouble fitting in at school and then of course finding out some of your classmates' secrets while they doze through History isn't exactly great. She handles herself well though--learned how to survive on her own, how to hide the signs of what's happening to her, how to combat it as best as possible. I admire her for her fortitude and not becoming overwhelmed and crazy.

Her romance is kind of interesting. Its like the story structure itself. It starts and stops and begins again only to get waylaid and then seems to end altogether. Hiding is really the name of the game in the book--hiding from yourself, hiding from others, hiding behind a facade of social snobbery or hiding behind a label you are given because the label is better then the truth. Janie learns over the course of Wake that hiding in plain sight is sometimes preferable to hiding in the darkness and hiding with someone is both better and worse.』

(Amazingly Refreshing Read)
『Lisa McMann busted into the "teen sci-fi" scene with her book "Wake". What I enjoyed most about this book is that it centers around a refreshingly new concept, getting sucked into other people's dreams, while still focusing on the humanity of the characters. The characters are all very real, they speak like teens do, and they're not all perfect. It doesn't seem like a book that is going to have a "happily ever after" ending which is something I enjoy because it reflects real life. This was an amazing read for me, and quick too. I would whole-heartily recommend this book to anyone who likes a real type of romance mixed with a unique sci-fi theme. -Rachel』

『I'm not a big fan of books written in present tense. I've read some great books in this format, but it takes a few pages to get me in to it. This one hooked me right from the start. The book starts out with Janie sitting in the library about to be pulled in to some random person's subconscious. For Janie, it's like walking by a wind tunnel and getting sucked in whenever someone nearby starts to dream.

The story is faced paced but also easy to follow. The characters are well rounded, the dialog is fun. I've noticed a trend with current Young Adult (YA) top picks and that's that the main character's parents are basically non existent. In this book I think it's fitting. There is something going on with Janie's mom and I want to keep reading to know what it is. Having absent parental figures tends to create a more self sufficient character and that's a trait I like to see.
Great read and I can't wait to pick up the next to installments of this series.』

『This book sucked me in from the first page. The concept is original, it's well paced, and overall the story will not allow you to put the book down. I read this in 4hrs, the world just seemed to stop. This is one I will keep and reread just as I have with the Twilight series.』

『This book is complicated.

It is a quick read, and that might be because of the writing style. It is very different than most YA books, but its unique style is very important to the storytelling. The main character Janie, and to the same degree Cabel and Carrie, are all from the wrong side of town, the harder side of town, the side of town with secrets and disappointments, and heartaches unknown to the rich side of town kids, the kids with two parents and normal habits. The characters' back stories are somber, traumatic and incredibly realistic. As a girl who grew up on the wrong side of town myself, I can tell you that they aren't all that fictionalized. And that's the depressing, sometimes scary part of the book.

But because these characters have had terrible things happen to them, grown up with parents who are unwilling to be parents, who stab them in the back time and again for their own gain, or because of their own troubles, these characters don't have the luxury of flowery description and daydreams and fancy clothes. So the writing style...clipped and to the point, present tense and urgent...perfectly fits characters who live their lives in the now, always doing and moving and being and never giving a lot of thought to what could or should happen.

The action moves quickly in short chapter fragments that span from Janie's childhood to her senior year of high school where the fast paced storytelling slows down enough for the story to unfold around this group of characters. Janie and Carrie's friendship is broken and sometimes hostile but they both know that they will always be there for each other. Janie and Miranda's dislike for each other is a sidebar, really, and doesn't over-accentuate itself as a Cheerleader vs. Poor Girl stereotype. It's just there, behind the scenes, because we don't always get along with everyone in high school.

It's the relationship that develops between Cabel and Janie that had me breathless from beginning to end. I think that Cabel is possibly my favorite of all YA romantic interests because he's very real, very clumsy, very troubled and very much in love with the girl next door. It's wonderful really, the things he does for her, and the relationship is slow to build, taking years and not days. It is practical and exceptional and it only really blossoms out of need when their secrets are no longer secret from each other. But it isn't just about need. Their romantic interests in each other is born out of something else too. Young adult passion is complicated, just as theirs is. Even if this one has a supernatural twist to it.

The supernatural twist. Janie gets pulled into people's dreams if anyone starts to dream near her. The connection is broken by a closed door or enough distance, unless the dreamer is having a nightmare. Then it is unpredictable, wild and scary. She learns a lot about her classmates through their dreams, and even more about herself as she tries to help some of them through their dreams. And it is within their dreams that Cabel and Janie learn each others' darkest secrets.

I loved this book and cannot wait to read Fade. I thought the writing was strong, the characters are both high school stereotypes and very unique in their own right, which makes everyone's personalities and decisions incredibly realistic. The head cheerleader is never also the goth kid outback smoking with the other goth kids. The quiet nerdy girl is never the popular party thrower, the poor girl from the wrong side of town is never the head cheerleader. And while these stereotypes are true to the book as well as in high school, these kids have their own stories. They are not just the high school title ascribed to them by their peers.

Two things, though, that may worry parents. I'm not a young adult, I'm a 30 year old writer, but I know certain subjects make parents squirm. First of all, there is profanity in this book. It is not over the to, but it is there. The kids use it with each other, just like we know all kids do when adults aren't around to catch them. The other thing is that some of the kids dream about sex. Or sexual situations. They are often incredibly uncomfortable and awkward and because most of these kids have not had sex themselves, the dreams are often comical in their ridiculousness. I imagine some people might gasp at the idea, but there is nothing about any of these dreams that makes sex seem like a good, positive idea that all high school kids should do. The dreams are clumsy and silly and usually feature body parts way out of proportion from real life. I think that the authors handling of the subject is respectful, realistic, and responsible.』

『Helen Fisher's self-read audiobook version of "Why Him? Why Her?" is a decent audiobook for those interested in a somewhat unique perspective on why some personality types are bound to be ideal soul mates while others are headed for inevitable disaster.

The reading of the material is perfectly fine, with a well paced, well enunciated female voice reading through the entirety (unabridged) of the print version.

Those of you who enjoy insight into the dynamics of female-male romantic relationships and the latest 'theory of the month' for what makes a winning formula should find Fisher's anthropological bent insightful and well reasoned. Unfortunately its really nothing that you haven't heard before (ie - The 'CEO' type male should pair up nicely with an 'organizer' type female) but still, an enjoyable way to pass the time if you're looking to burn up some hours on a long drive.』

『This really is a very readable book with a fascinating theory. In an easygoing way Helen Fisher writes about four broad personality types: the Explorer, Builder, Director and Negotiator. Each of those types is governed by a specific hormonal dominance in the brain. She also describes how certain types go very well together, while others are problematic. The book begins with a test so I started with identifying my own personality type. It is captivating to see how her information seems to "fit" with myself and people around me. I really enjoyed reading this book and thinking about the broader implications of this theory.

『People are different, We all know this. The trick is understanding the rough categories into which people are likely to fit (including ourselves). This according to Helen if driven by chemistry and resulting brain wiring. Why not, something causes the differences in people.

If her categories are correct (explorer, director, builder, negotiator) and they are at least close to reality, it explains why some people fit well together, others don't, some relationship bloom and others wither.

This work is worth your time though when she coached the reader (listener in my case) to be more tolerant of dissimilar types (as a life partner) it seemed inconsistent with the idea of selecting for a good match instead of trying to make a mismatch work (extreme simplification here).』

『This is a very good and interesting book for the most part. Though
I have some disagreements over generalizations of the types in the book. Anyways I took the personality type test in the book
and here were my scores: Explorer 31, Builder 21, Director 30
and negotiator 23. So I am an Explorer/Director according to the
book which mostly fits me except I have the strong Loyalty and Morals
of the Builder as well. I'm defintely an Explorer and Director
though. And have some qualities of the Negotiator. But I have
some mass divergences from what the book describes in some realms.
I hold Conservative Political views and I do not hold permissive
Political, Relgious or Sexual views. Exactly the opposite
of the ways she describes the Explorer on P.54. But I like
to explore places and things and certainly want to explore a
woman when I get married. Nor do I drink, smoke or do drugs like
it says most explorers tend to do. I've had only 1 sip of alcohol
my entire life and tried one cigarrette when I was 10 or so (thought it was 7 but my sister who I tried them with pointed out that was the age when my parents divorced so it couldn't have been quite that early). And was smart enough never to do drugs ever unless you count
aspirin and Pepto Bismol. Perhaps if Helen Fisher is correct in her types then it is my logical Director side at 1 point difference
that keeps my explorer side in Check. After all my logic instructor
(professor) at Boise State University did call me Mr. Spock in class.
I actually got 110% in class through perfect test scores and extra
credit. He called me Mr. Spock because I solved something in a way
that no one else in class did. I found you could have something
and not itself. It was a long time ago so I can't remember exactly
how I solved the equation. I am however unconventional and non conformist though I have a strict standard of conduct.
On Page 64. I'm a man of honor, duty and loyalty despite builder being my lowest score. I also believe in proper moral conduct but I don't admire or follow social norms or customs. Then again with
groups I've been in the social norms and customs are drinking, partying, etc which I don't participate in.
On Page 66. How can the claim be made in this book that George
Washington had a respect for authority and loyalty? If True
then he would have respected the authority of the King of England and
been loyal to him since the King was the guy in charge at the time.
George Washington instead established his own Authority!
On Page 81 Helen Fisher talks about Colin Powell contributing to chaos in the middle east by supporting the invasion of Iraq but what about George Washington supporting Chaos in the United states of America by fighting against the King of England? America wouldn't have been in Chaos under the rule of the King of England. It would've been orderly and calm, just under a different ruler!
George Washington sounds more like an explorer to me to establish
a new kingdom not under the King of Englad. It certainly wasn't
respect for authority to disobey the King of England the ruler at
the time.
On Page 127. I must be a very different kind of explorer than the
ones in the book as I regard Sex as Sacred as God Commanded to be shared only by 2 individuals for eternity.
Page 129 Explorer/Director . I fit this definition to almost
the tee. Good thing since it's what my test says I am.
On Page 137 I find myself in high agreement with the negotiator type
listed though I'm not one according to the test.

Overall though the book was very interesting. I have some major
disagreements as shown about about what these types actually are
though.

Helen Fisher is such a great anthropologist and she really hit it with this one. It really opened my eyes to the whole thing and made me realize why I sometimes do the things I do. Read it for the cultural anthropology aspect as for the relationship one. Another I also liked that helped me: Lucky In Love, Lucky In Life: How To Be Wanted-Use the Law of Attraction to Date the Man You Most Desire and Live the Life You Deserve.』

That alone is worth the price of this awsome box set!』

『This is the most awesome box set i have ever heard. Every song is remastered. The first disc is the studio tracks and some their first demos. The second disc is demos like 'Stepping Stone', 'No Lip', and others. The third disc is their famous concert at the Screen on the Green Cinema and a few unrealesed live songs, including 'Flowers of Romance' and 'Understanding'. There are 61 songs total. There is also an 80 page booklet filled with notes on the band's history, official discography, posters, pictures and more. I've loved the Sex Pistols since i first listened to them over two years ago. Yes it is a big price tag, but it's worth it. And you've probably heard that the Pistols are. They aren't. It's been proven. And you may have heard that Sid Vicious couldn't play. He could. It's been proven. SEX PISTOLS FOREVER!!!!』

『Three discs that collect the "Bollocks" album, b-sides, studio out-takes, an entire concert and some rare live tracks:

There is one track, a cover of the Creation's "Through My Eyes" which is more like a warm-up that lasts about a minute or so. If only they had actually recorded the song full out, it would have been great fun! Some of the well-known covers such as "Stepping Stone" and "Substitute" are presented differently; the vocal tracks are the same, but the music is an early, rough mix. An improvement to the over-produced versions previously available. "No Fun" is pretty much the same, they just cut it off a few seconds later so we get more studio conversation. Virgin provides some live tracks, in addition to the complete live show, that sound more like set fillers and audience agitation; mostly moaning, improvisation and feedback. The version of "Belsen Was A Gas" offered is far better than what I heard on the GREAT RnR SWINDLE.

The booklet is great, usual stuff about the Pistol's place in rock history, what they were about, theatrics vs. bare-bones rock, blah blah blah. The track-by-track commentary by the band is, I believe, pretty much what was published in a later chapter of Lydon's autobiography "Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs" and on the KISS THIS CD insert.

If you're a fan, this is really the best collection available. Hopefully, this will be the last time you'll have to plunk down hard-earned cash to own some Sex Pistol's product. As they say, the swindle continues. Enjoy...』

(Good Collection but missing some things)
『Don't get me wrong, this is a great boxed set. I commend it for getting rid of a large number of the unlistenable tracks featured on "the great rock and roll swindle". No longer must one labor through the likes of the black arabs doing a sex pistol's medley, or the bizarre violin version of "anarchy in the uk" sung in french. However, it also leaves out a few of "swindle"'s stand out non-rotten vocal tracks like Steve Jone's "lonely boy" or Paul cook's "silly thing". It does manage to include other great "swindle" tracks like the pistol's cover of the who's substitute and "don't give me no lip child". For me the highlight of this set is the booklet which is housed inside the item's fabulous packaging. This booklet is full color and manages to chronicle the band's complete lyrics, fashion, and attitude as well as the public reaction to them. For a hardcore punk fan I would reccomend this item on the strength of the book alone. However, as boxed sets go, I think it may have been wiser to mimic the clash's "clash on broadway" and cover the whole career of the band and feature a wider variety of songs. In short, I believe this boxed set's major flaw is that it features too many versions of too few songs. I think this boxed set is worth your money if you are a hardcore sex pistols fan and will enjoy all the alternate and live versions of songs. I also think that this item is worth it if you are a new or casual sex pistols fan and want a good overview of their music.』

Okay first off, this is by far the best live album the Godfather ever released. Yes, even better than Live At The Apollo(1963), in fact it is much better. That was never one of my favorite live albums, I never understood what the big hype about it was, sure the story is cool but that doesn't make the performance any better. Now this, this is a live album.

All the intensity of Brown's legendary performances is captured. The vocals are audible 100% of the time, the band sounds just plain amazing here. That is the one thing the Apollo album had though was one amazing band, they never sounded so good as they did on that album, but they sound just fine here. Songs like 'I Got That Feelin' and 'Get Up I Feel Like A Sex Machine' come to life like you have never heard them before. Simply amazing performances. 'Give It Up Or Turn It Loose' is powerful. 'Its A Mans World' and the classic 'Please, Please, Please' are the best I have ever heard, and in fact this is the only version of 'Please' I can bare. But what seems to be the best on the album is the closer. 'Mother Popcorn' captured here is easily the best version of the song. Long been my favorite Brown song I have always felt that it would always make the best song to end a concert, and this why.

Sex Machine is a fantastic live, one of the very best of all time. The proof is in the pudding so take a bite.』

『Only the disc two of the original vinyl album contains real live material, and it's highly disappointing. If you want to hear James Brown at his best, skip this album and buy Live at the Apollo Vol. 2 instead. The studio tracks (6 cuts) were much better, but they are available on many compilations, and you don't really need this album.』

『Not much needs to be said about NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, but the second disc is a necessary purchase even if you bought the SEX PISTOLS BOX, which is full of demos (but not all of them). There was not enough time to fit everything on that, so some tracks were cut from it. This 2CD set was issued first. The following track list was found after researching on the web. This info is not on the set (actually almost no info is on the set).

『I agree with the previous reviewer, but have to add a little historical background so you understand where the appeal possibly comes from. Because who doesn't already own"Bollocks?"

Prior to (and even after) the release of their one and only proper album,"Spunk"was one of the most highly sought after bootlegs on the market; most of the tunes were performed either live, or else underproduced, with Chris Spedding doing some of the guitar tracks (while the Pistols were trying to find a label that would take them).

After the fact,"Spunk"has some interesting tid-bits, but nothing you couldn't already find on a plethora of subsequent boots ("Flogging A Dead Horse","Some Product","The Swindle Continues", etc.).

A decent value, but not the essential work some would have you believe.』

『This movie is a must for all Jaclyn Smith fans! It's a different character for her, and I think she gave an entrancing performance. I also found this movie to have a great plot, based on Joyce Haber's book also titled The Users, of a woman struggling to survive who climbs her way to the top and also takes Tony Curtis' character with her. Great cast, great movie, definitely worth watching!』

『This picture hit the screen on October 1 1978 starring the beautiful and gorgeous as she could Jaclyn Smith as Elena Scheider, Tony Curtis as Randy Brent., and Red Buttons as warren Ambrose. The film-opening scene has Randy arguing with director Adam Baker about a part in the current movie that he doesn't like. Enters Elena Scheider who goes into a trailer with Adam baker the movies current producer. Baker wants to pay Elena to seduce Randy in bed in order to make him think that he can do the films next love scene. Mr. Baker invites Elena to a party he's having in Randy's honor and Elena walks in on Mr. Bakers arm. When Mr. Baker is ready to leave Elena isn't and she stays with Randy. Elena and Randy spend a romantic night together, which prompts Elena to walk in Mr. Baker's office and give back the money she was paid. Elena then goes out and watches Randy do the love scene, which he was excellent in. Randy decides that he wants Elena to come back to California with him in the morning. However, Elena has a decision to make because she has to figure out who's going to take care of her crippled mother. However, Elena mother tells her to get on that plane tomorrow and go with Randy because she'll be just fine. After the plane lands in California, Randy takes Elena for a ride through Beverly Hills. The relationship goes to the next level when the couple starts to talk about get married. However, the honeymoon doesn't last long because Randy's picture gets cut from 120 mins to 97 mins and is sold for the TV rights only. Elena agrees to meet with another producer if she wants to get Randy another movie deal before he falls apart. Things turn when Elena comes home and fines Randy with another man of all things and after Elena walks out Randy tries to commit suicide by cutting his wrist. So Randy and Elena are invited to one of the biggest parties in Beverly Hills where Elena meets Reade Jamieson. Elena decides to give a party for one of the most respected producers in California only to be stood up. However, the price that Elena could to help randy could cost her everything. I bought this picture because of Jaclyn Smith and it was well worth it. Jaclyn shined as star she is in her role in this picture. There were a number of scenes that she looked so good in especially the scene in the swimming pool and the scene in the hot tub. You can say all you want about her but as far as I'm concerned she is the best actress of all time. Because of Jaclyn Smith Beauty, I give this movie 10 weasel stars alone.

Well, the video does talk about the above subject but it a boring way.
They use a very dated panel of people sitting in a talk show dialog and have rather boring subjects to interview. It would actually be better to just read a book on the subject...』

This is not an Alex Comfort tome (THE JOY OF SEX, THE MORE JOY OF SEX), so don't expect wild and crazy and au courant innovations. This is probably targeted at couples who are in a rut of routine, conventional sex, without experimentation or variety. Unlike a lot of adult entertainment, the "love" scenes are shot tastefully and without all the yelling and screaming that I've seen in adult films in the last decade. Is it worth the price? Well, if your sex life is healthy and active, probably not. If your sex life is mundane, robotic, formulaic, you might get a fresh perspective or a new idea from this. Your mileage will vary.』

(Best girl's night movie)
『This movie exceeded my expectations.
It had the same witty dialogue as the TV series and had unexpected twists in the storyline.
My favorite aspect of the movie, besides the fashion, were the characters of course. Each character had her own life and her own unique drama. This made it easy for viewers to relate their own lives to the movie.
A must see!』

『I'll assume those here have seen the movie, or at the very least the tv show. I'm a huge fan of both, so I opted for the special edition dvd. The first disc features an extended film. I couldn't get enough of this film, so I was thrilled to have the extra 12 minutes, but I'm not sure you would miss them if you didn't know about them. The digital copy of the film is great, but most fans probably don't have a need for it. I love being able to watch it anytime, on my computer or tv. The deleted scenes are fun if you liked the movie, but the conversations with Sarah Jessica Parker and Michael Patrick King are underwhelming. If you read any of the reviews or paid any attention to the movie's extensive publicity, then you won't find much that's new.

Essentially: if you liked this movie a lot, you'll appreciate at least some of the extras, but if you're not a huge fan, then you probably won't miss them if you opt for the "regular" edition.』

(Stylish, Romantic Comedy)
『This is actually pretty good movie - although it has a predictable ending. It continues the story of the lush life of four girlfriends from a TV Series.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her friends continue to show off beautiful dresses, shoes and purses. A fashion show that helps designers sell their clothes I am sure. Not a bad marketing idea...

The movie turns out to be an interesting romantic comedy that continues after four years have passed from the TV series. The film begins with everyone married but Carrie at 40 years of age. Carrie and Mr. Big (Chris Noth) decide to get married as a practical idea as they search for an apartment together. It should be in both of their names and each contribute equally to the costs. Carrie buys a practical dress and settles for a small wedding with 75 people. Somehow the plans snowball to a wedding with 200 guests, a designer wedding gown and a fancy location (Library with many romance novels.) Mr. Big backs out and Carrie is devastated beyond belief - same old story. Her friends Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Samantha (Kim Kattrall), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) go down to a Mexican Resort with Carrie to help her heal and forget the man who ripped her heart out.

Carrie and friends return to their lives and sub-plots on each are shown. In the end Cinderella gets her prince, and let's hope this is the final chapter. It ends on a high note with all loose ends tied nicely.』

(Good not great)
『For years I have been waiting for this. I was so upset at the way the series ended,too many loose ends and everyone else seem to grow up and get a decent ending except Carrie.
I was skeptical that it would let me down by the watering down everything.But it was better than I expected ,but still mad at the way it ended.
The clothes were beautiful (esp the Oscar De La Renta Wedding gown with the red rose headband and that bright blue maid of honor dress Miranda picked out)
Jennifer Hudson also stars as Carrie's new friend and assistant, Louise from St Louis. She brought a lot of depth and variety to this movie with her small part.

Smith&Sam - have moved to Hollywood - Sam is an agent for the stars and Smith is a famous actor now. Samantha should be content , but the Antonio Banderas LOOKALIKE next door makes it really hard.
Miranda&Steve - Miranda has changed the most- all she does is work and is so busy taking care of her son and her mother in law who has dementia ,It has taken a toll on her marriage to Steve.She is much more bitter,insensitive and depressed than she ever was and possibly bit jealous that Carrie is getting married.

Carrie and Big - Carrie has written 3 successful books and is engaged to Big.She is asked by the editor of Vogue to do a wedding spread for Vogue. But Big starts to get cold feet again...

Bottom line
If you were a fan of the TV series ,you will love the show.It is a great movie to see with your girlfriends.(I wouldn't advise you make your boyfriend see it,the girl next to me at the theater brought her man and he kept complaining about how miserable he was.They ended up having a fight because he kept leaving to get popcorn.)
Two major quibles. Didn't like that Big has still not grown up. He has been screwing with poor Carrie's head for over 10 years and she always takes him back.Carrie deserves to be with a mature guy who makes her feel good about herself,not an self important jerk that can't make up his mind.
Also Charlotte letting her little girl hear the their private conversations. Come on now, any dummy knows their are things you can't talk about in front of three year olds.』
