(MISTAKE IN THE CREDITS)

(Deborah sings Broadway)

(What's happened to Debbie?)

(A Taste of Broadway)

(OUCH!)
Take her or leave her, i give her credit for going broadway, and then spreading these tunes, by these diverse group of artists, out into the stratosphere.
now, to my point: CAN SOMEBODY GET THESE SONG CREDITS RIGHT? RAISE THE ROOF IS FROM THE OFF-BROADWAY 'WILD PARTY' BY ANDREW LIPPA, NOT THE BROADWAY VERSION BY MICHAEL JOHN LACHIUSA.
I don't mind LaChiusa getting royalty money whatever the case, I am a fan of his version of the full length poem, not much of Lippa's, but people. Somebody get this righ and corrected.

As the title indicates, yes, Deborah Gibson did record an album of Broadway material; however, she wrote the song "Sex," which is from Skirts, a musical that Deborah is a composer and lyricist on. While Deborah was promoting this album as "bridging pop and Broadway," in the end, it's ultimately a Broadway recording. There's very little in the way of a "pop" sound on the album.

My favorite songs on the disc are: "Anytime (I Am There)" (from Elegies: A Song Cycle), "Raise the Roof!" (from The Wild Party), "They All Laughed" (from Shall We Dance?), "Sex," and "I'd Rather Leave While I'm in Love" (from The Boy From Oz). Personally, I would have loved to see Deborah promote "Raise the Roof!" as a single, and have issued a disc with some remixes of the song (everytime I hear "Raise The Roof!," I feel like it's screaming to have some dance mixes done of it).

Even though Colored Lights has a Broadway sound to it, it's not a bad album. However, it may not be an enjoyable listen for people who don't have much appreciation for musical theater.

I am not a staunch Gibson fan like most of the drooling 5-star reviews here. But I loved her in the 80's and think her to be a talented singer-songwriter who puts modern pop moppets to shame. I thought it was awesome when she broke into Broadway and made a steady career of it.
Then I heard 'Colored Lights'.
I ask, Debbie!(sorry, DEBORAH), what has happened to you??
Like others here, I applaud her choice to include lesser-known songs. But in doing so, it really behoves her to SELL them as great songs, not rework them for her own interpretation. I felt like I was listening not to the pure-toned, crystal voice of our favourite teen idol, but someone doing a bad impersonation of her. There is hardly a single line she sings which isn't punctured by bad ennunciation, poor phrasing or a lack of respect for the intent of the composers.
There were no gravelly growls(meant to sound sexy, no doubt, but too overdone to succeed), breathy sighs, uneven tone, lacklustre dynamics, excessive scooping, wavery pitch and lack of top range in the Debbie Gibson I remember. But her voice on this album is such a mere shadow of its youthful self that she resorts to these irritating vocal bandaids to get through the song. Any track that had a 'big finish' invariably caused her to run out of steam long before she got there. A belter, Deb is not.
(and I know what I'm talking about, I'm a trained singer myself. If Deborah has a singing teacher, he/she should be shot).

This album was a huge disappointment for me. I love Broadway, but Deb fails terribly to give these songs the great renditions they deserve.
I should add, I have never had the fortune to see Deb sing live, so for all I know, maybe she COULD have done these songs justice had she avoided the pop slant. But this album shows neither the songs nor any talent she still has to advantage at all.

Listen to some Idina Menzel if you want a pop-feel voice that can also out-Belt them all.

I've been a fan of her since God only knows. I know she's not just talented but she is very passionate of (her) music. Knowing that she moved herself into broadways, it's rather of a challenge for me to listen to the songs especially when I'm too familiar with her pop genre. But after a while, I'm used to it coz Debbie is still Debbie to me. She's not afraid of re-arranging the original song to her style, at least she knows what she's doing and again she's proven it. My most favourite track is "Colored Lights", it's light, cheerful, somewhat witty and, in a way, brings up my imagination of seeing her (and the casts) on stage performing the song. All in all, Debbie still has a class and style for us to share.
Deborah Gibson is a talented rock star. With a good musical director, she has proved herself to be a wonderful musical theatre performer. This album, however, is a very uneasy marriage of the two genres. She sings every showtune on the album as if it's a pop tune with horrendous bubble gum arrangements. I have seen Miss Gibson in two musicals and have heard her sing showtunes live on other occasions- she knows how to sing showtunes. On this album, however, she's trying to pander to her pop audience and in the process, she created an album that fails as a pop album and as a showtune album. I can only hope that Miss Gibson finds a better musical director the next time she decides to record showtunes.

(I Just Want More Sex Style!)

(Best Release 2007?!)
When I did a random search for all things Kool Keith recently, I was pleasantly suprised to see that this CD collection of unreleased tracks from the "Sex Style" sessions had been released. "What a find", I thought to myself as I ordered what I thought was going to be a long-lost continuation of Kool Keith's perverted masterpiece.

Unfortunately, there's a reason why this stuff didn't make it on the album. While serviceable hip-hop tracks for anyone else (and still good songs), it just felt like a letdown. The energy (drug-addled or not) that flows through "Sex Style" just doesn't seem present here, and it seems like by the time Keith got around to laying down vocals for these tracks he had run through his cache of absurd, stream of counsciousness lyrics.

On the plus side, this collection provides insight into how prolific Kool Keith was during this period; since there's this album's worth of outtakes, and the actual "Sex Style" album, which is very full and still flows amazingly in my opinion. Some of these songs have great beats thanks to Kumasta Kurt, and Keith manages to bust out some funny lines, so for completists and those of us who wish Keith would put even this much effort into his current albums can enjoy that about this otherwise non-essential release.

Another classic set of tracks... this release is very smart, sounds like Kool Keith and Kutmasta Kurt have a complete album in these just released recordings... The beats are definattly circa 93-95, and they sound better than anything I own from that era!!

Kool Keith's Lyrics are probably the funniest and craziest, his delivery recalls four horseman, or the cenobites. If your a fan of the best rap available you need to get this record!!

Although "Dr. Octagon" wasn't released until 1996, KutMasta Kurt was busy producing music with Kool Keith as far back as 1993. A few of these tracks have been floating around on fuzzy dubbed cassette tapes over the years and even a few have wound up on bootlegs, but now we officially get a chance to hear these archived tracks as intended. The CD is a 2,500 copy limited-edition digipack release. Each CD has been individually numbered, and includes a 12 page lyric sheet. The 2xLP vinyl is also limited-edition, with only 600 individually signed/autographed and numbered copies available! The original "Sex Style" has sound scanned well over 35,000 copies to date and this album is an essential companion for any fan of the original 1997 release. In fact with Sex Style's recent limited edition reissue creating a nice buzz at retail, this is the perfect time for this new release to drop.

(Exquisite Music)

(Great idea, mediocre execution.)

(Transcribed Bliss)

(Was expecting so much more)
I first learned about classical tribute albums for metal bands when I heard about the Estonian group Rondellus and bought their magnificent tribute to Black Sabbath, called Sabbatum.

Sabbatum was such a brilliant album that, when I heard about Anotomica, I listened to it and bought the album. Bear in mind, I know nothing of Tool's music. But I do know classical music, and I love this album. The renditions of the Tool songs sound fantastic to me. The music is well-played, and I love feeling the textures of the music and the interweaving of the instrument voices.

The only reason I don't give this album five stars is because of the song "Rampant" on the second CD. It is total crap and not at all enjoyable to listen to if you like classical music; it is disharmonious and disorganized-sounding. It's jarring and unpleasing to the ear. It was also not written by Tool, so I'm rather annoyed that its composer tacked it onto this tribute album.

My advice--Copy all of these songs except "Rampant" onto your iPod and bliss out!

Just a few days ago I was driving to work listening to Lateralus in my car and I was thinking how interesting it would sound to arrange some of the songs for a string quartet, so I was greatly suprised when I came across this very album at Barnes&Noble.

While I think it's an excellent idea and I can think of few bands that would work better in this format, I was very disappointed in the execution. There just seemed to be very little... intensity. Listen to Ticks&Leeches for example, or the end of Schism--not to mention they skip my favorite section of The Patient. If you want to hear how much sonic ass a string quartet can kick, check out recordings by the Kronos Quartet. I would love to see what they could have done with this material.

This cd set is an amazing orchestral transposition of one of the greatest melodic bands of the current era. The cd is not for everyone. Obviously the metalheads that only appreciate repetitieve basal tones in their ears that will eventually lead to deafness, will not find this set to be to their musical expectations. Those of us who appreciate Tool for their melodic qualities, as well as appreciate 'classical music,' should find these discs to meet their expectations. Obviously, being a string tribute, these discs are instrumental, not rock/industrial covers with vocals. Overall, these discs are refreshing, especially considering most tribute albums these days. After all, the core purpose of a tribute album is to make make money off of someone elses artistic ability. I give this recording 4 out of 5 stars due to the fact that it is a cover album, and it didn't amaze me as much as some classical music does, the first time that i heard it. Overall, it is a very enjoyable listen.
First, let me say that I'm a huge Tool fan, and I don't even like "heavy" music that much. I really enjoy their music and I think Maynard is the best vocalist in rock today. Now, on to these CDs. I didn't like them for the most part. The only reason I'm giving them three stars is because they have a great concept and their are a few pretty good sections in them. The songs just don't represent the darkness of Tool's music. If you want to see what I'm talking about, preview Schism. I think the reason this doesn't work is it's going to be impossible to recreate Tool's sound with a violin. A group like Apocalyptica (four cellos re-creating Metallica if you are unfamiliar) would be different, because it would allow Tool's darkness to come through. Furthermore, Danny Carey on drums is probably half the reason Tool is so wonderful. Put any other drummer in Danny's place, and Tool will not be nearly as good as they are. Once again, a string quartet can't replace a great drummer with their instruments. Overall, if you want to check these out, go ahead, but I'm just saying that you're not going to get nearly the same impact as you will when listening to Tool.

(Corny and Brave at the Same Time)

(A little too much)

(Liked this movie as well)

(Sorry, thought this move was darling!)

(A fun period piece)
The leads are charismatic, Edward Hermann is good in everything he does. Most importantly, in addition to some decent character-driven comedy, physical and verbal, (remember the scene where Matheson is trying on the wedding rings?) this movie actually sketches out how you move forward from animal cravings to having a loving relationship.

It's not particularly profound, and sure, it feels a LOT like a TV movie.

It sure felt realistic to me, in this one way-- it really did feel like Matheson's character was trying to understand how to love somebody without thinking of himself as some sort of martyr to monogamy. And I did feel like Capshaw's character had some backbone, unlike other female leads in similar comedies.

The plot of this movie centers around one of the most ubiquitous of human traits: the male libido. Is it possible for a man in possession of an above-average sex drive to be devoted to one woman? Or will his loins always win out?

Certainly, this is not the 1st movie to address this question. However, typically the best venue to engage the topic is via the Romantic Comedy. Instead, this movie is a drama that takes itself way too seriously. In the end, it comes out being more sappy than anything else.

One of the aspects I liked the least about the film was its glorification of smoking. I realize that smoking is supposed to be sexy&erotic, but I have never got into it. In this movie it simply comes across as dirty&sleazy (much like the plot-line!). I swear that Tim Mattheson doesn't go a single scene w/out lighting up; it gets old really quick.

The one highpoint of the film is Kate Capshaw as the virtuous but betrayed wife. She is certainly very loveable in her role, and the film dates from the prime years of her film career.

If you're looking for a movie with a similar plot-line, but done much better, check out JUST A LITTLE HARMLESS SEX. The latter is also funny, while the present film is bereft of humor. If you pick this DVD up I can almost guarantee that you will be bored with the result.
I was a young teen when I first saw this film on cable and I really enjoyed it. Sure it's fluff, but it'g good fluff. I loved Kate Capshaw, couldn't stand Tim Matheson (his character was a cheat, so how could I like him?) They had good chemistry and she looks fabulous. I was glad to see it available on tape and snapped it up. Am waiting for the dvd version with hopefully some interesting extras but this is an older film so...
Oh pooh-pooh on all you artheads. Yes, the movie's fluffy. Yes it's kind of a big-screen TV movie. But it's a WHOLE lot of fun and I've always just loved it. Who can resist all those wonderful scenes where they play-act meeting each other for the first time? I loved this move and am simply waiting for it to come out on DVD. *thhhhhhpt!*
This is a fun movie. It really is nothing more than an R rated (and not all that R rated) tv movie. But it's fun, harmless, and amusing. There are definitely worse ways to spend an evening than watching this pleasant movie.

(Lifetime Movie)

(Fan Review (?))

(this was a good movie)

(born free as free as the wind blows)

(Pregnant Liars)
This is one of my favorite all-time "Lifetime" movies. Grant Show is HOT, HOT, HOT! My only complaint is that they haven't come out with the sequel on DVD yet, but I have it saved on my DVR while I wait for it. Gail O'Grady is a good actress also, and you can feel the chemisty between the two of them in this movie. This is one movie that I never get tired of! Thanks Grant! :)
As I am a fan of Danielle Panabaker, any review of mine would be biased. As she is not in the sequel, I have no current intentiions of watching it. GVP
I personally don't understand why you people are trashing this movie. It was very well written, and if any of you had actually seen it, you would see that she was trying to keep her daughter from making the same mistake that she did that way she wouldnt have to suffer the same heart aches and breaks. She was still her mother no matter what, just because she messed up once, does not give her daughter the right to be promiscuous. I agree with that. Those of you that have trashed this film, should have looked at the title more carefully. Hello! what were you expecting?
i feel that Sex and the single mom was a opening film to relationshops. The bond between the mom and daughter was... fascinateing, But at points in watching I thought that they were lovers not mother and daughter. The film really spoke to me and gave me quite a lot to think about.
In this movie, Gail O'Grady's character, [Jessica Gradwell] is a paralegal, and a single divorced mother who just can't seem to do certain things right, like keeping her nose out of her teenage daughter Sara's business. For example, peeking through Sara's private photos, and her relationships with boys. Sara (played by Danielle Panabaker), an aspiring photographer is annoyed by her mother's faults, bitchiness and nosiness. She becomes more furious when she finds out her mother, who always denied having a "boyfriend" had a six week fling with a phony character named [Alex Lofton] (played by Grant Show), a [heart surgeon] involved in a malpractice suit whom Jessica was interviewing at her employ. He was also married with kids, but said that he was getting a divorce (which might have been a lie). They deliberately started a relationship, and deliberately had sex. Then after a while, he said he was going back to his kids, and left. Then Jessica found out she was pregnant, and at first denied it to Sara when Sara found a pregnancy test kit in the trash. When Jessica finally fessed up, and said she was going to have, and keep the baby, Sara lashed out. She had every right to after being lied to, and lectured about sex. She left the house, and stayed with her father, Nick (played by Nigel Bennett) for a while, but eventually she and Jessica reconcilled their differences. Still, Jessica foolishly had the baby ( a boy unfortunately). She later decided to go to law school.
This is a movie about habitual liars who get away with sexual affairs.

(Other Spiritual Movies)

(Absolutetly bad)

(Liked The Happy Ending Best)

(The lead actor is very good)

(Not such a gem.)
I knew a film maker who died very suddenly and I remember thinking: "What does a film maker leave behind?" This thought was the seed that sprouted the movie: Beatific Vision.

I found myself thinking of a secret film that a character would leave behind when he dies. Not one he wished not to be found but one he planned to be found. More than a final will and testament this film was a "Beatific Vision", a view into the future of all characters and a clear mapping of the coincidences that would occur.

As I began to write the screenplay the voice of the Angel started to speak softly and occasionally. Upon many re-writes the Angel voice was vieing for main character status. I tried to reel in the angel but he (Angel Chad) wrestled control away from me.

When another close friend was passing to the other side, she added a strong dose of acceleration to the writing process. There now are so many Angels (most recently my Mother) involved, I feel I am at best the living hands to this project.

When I was a small boy my parents used to call me: Angel Michael when they wanted my behavior to change. I actually grew up thinking I was an angel including my sprouting scapula wings. Today, I do not think I am an angel but I surely believe that I am their vehicle for expression on earth.

Thank-you angels for this "angels on earth" experience!

I would prefered not to buy this movie, it was bored and the actors were as bad as they could. There's nothing interesting in the movie, not even the sex scenes.
This movie isn't the greatest, but for a gay movie it's not that bad. There was a lot of sex, but the one full frontal scene turned into a rather strange public service announcement. I enjoyed the happy ending the best. The dynamic of the his relationship with the sweet black guy from the park was a little too stark of a contrast with his life. You can easily imagine them breaking up about a week after the movie ends. The deleted scenes/outtakes were funny, the best one is where an actor tells everyone a joke.
I think people are WAY too hard on this movie. It deserves more positive reviews particularly because of the lead actor, Nick May. He does a fantastic job creating a character who you can really sympathize with. He's this young kid who gets tangled up in a 3 way relationship with two older men (believe me, there are lot of old guys out there looking for that) and he realizes that nobody really cares about him. The two older guys go to visit their family and ditch him on Christmas. The boy ends up finding himself turning to sex just to get some affection. He tells his hookups he's going to kill himself just hoping that somebody will care enough to tell him not to do it. I really felt bad for this character. His parents disowned him and his sister is horrible too. The actor does a brilliant job of making this character feel like he's all alone in the world.

There are a couple of horrible scenes in the movie that should have been left out. One involving a Santa and Mrs Clause jumping around and another involving an orgy. The orgy was just exploitative. Probably to try and get more people to watch the movie. Which is a shame because it takes away from the serious subject matter.

Anyway, I hope Nick May finds more work because he's a really good actor.

This movie had it's moments, and it was worth watching once, but I wouldn't call it a "gem". Hard to see where that adjective fits in, but to each their own.
Not bad, not good, just an average gay themed movie.

(Troublemaker.)

(Don't Pass This One Over)

(Great film)

(Beautiful to the eyes yet chilling to the touch; a cinematic masterpiece...)

(Must See)
Dangerous Liaisons starring Glenn Close, John Malkovich, and Michelle Pfeiffer star in this classic film. All three stars bring excitement, strength, and charmisa to their roles. Keanu Reeves and Uma Thurman also star as supporting and naive characters. Close is no stranger to playing an unappealing dame. I like this film but the language and costumes are too distracting to fully enjoy this old-fashioned film.
Dangerous Liaisons
This movie, to say the least, is very different. It is a period piece from the 1700s and takes place in France. Vicomte de Valmont and Marquise de Mertuil have become obsessed with destroying people's life. They find it entertaining and treat it like a sick game. Vicomte was summoned by Marquise to carry out the deed of deflowering a family member of hers, Cecile de Volanges. Cecile is set to marry Marquise's ex-husband and Marquise wants her revenge for him leaving her. Vicomte refuses to accept such a petty task and claims he is on his own mission. His mission is to corrupt another women named Madame de Tourvel, of course by deflowering her and destroying sense of moral. He will be leaving for his Aunt's home to find her soon. The two make a bet that Vicomte cannot finish his personal mission; if he does then Marquise will sleep with him.

Vicomte is one of the most devious main characters I have ever seen. Every move he makes is cunning and used to rip apart his victims until they fall into his arms. Marquise often helps him in his sinister plots to destroy these women. This is one of my favorite villains of all time, and I am happy that he is the main character.

Marquise eventually makes it able for Vicomte to do both assignments by moving Cecile into Vicomte's Aunt's home. Cecile had desired a young man named Chevalier Danceny, played by Keanu Reeves, and Marquise suggested a move into the country with Vicomte's Aunt. From there Vicomte approaches both tasks in hopes to win over Marquise.

The story is wonderful and it continues to amaze you how evil Vicomte really is. He smiles after every single sick move he makes just to show you how evil he is. Before the end of the movie you will see a different side of him though, a side that cares less about Marquise and more about one of his victims. I recommend this movie to anyone looking for something interesting and new.

Fantastic film. Manages to convey the tone of the original book better than other versions. Casting is unexpected, but John Malkovich is brilliant, as is Glenn Close. (Uma Thurman is just strange as Cecile.)
My adoration of period pieces should have brought me to this film a long time ago, truly, but sadly I had never even heard of this movie u
