(Good song but not essential)

(Grace's Lost Classic)

(Preparing for perfection...)

(GRACE's Greatest Hit)

(SEX DRIVE by Grace Jones)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1V94XA5XT67DCMy name is Jeremy Gloff. I am a musician (check me out on Amazon!) and retro music enthusiast. If you enjoyed this review make sure to check out my Amazon user profile to check out my other reviews. I am always up for making new friends and discussing the music I love!!! (featuring a guest appearance by my friend Peter Botti, who is a huge Grace Jones fanatic.)
Absolutely blinding single co-produced by Ms Jones and Sheep On Drugs waaaay back in 1993 - thing is, it still sounds amazing: there's a house mix, an RnB mix, and a full throttle techno mix, as well as one of La Jones' greatest-ever tracks, "Typical Male", in which she excoriates every single male on the planet as a sexed-up neanderthal (UK's NME awarded this track alone a 10/10, as well as single of the month). I never tire of this treasure, and it should have been a huge hit. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.
As the loyal Grace Jones I am, I am obligated to pick up every single thing I can about Grace Jones. Today I received this single with the mail - and I just love it; I've always known the song, but I never did find it any store. Sex Drive is good but also fairly hard to sit through, the sound is hardcore, not the usual stuff from Grace Jones. Grace scored several of hits in period of 1977-1986 under the label; Island Records. She then joined Manhattan Records for two releases: Inside Story (1986) and Bulletproof Heart (1989) and then returned to Island Records in 1993 with this single. I was joyous when I first heard of Grace's new single release (hopelessly anticipating a new album) but it never came. I don't know why Grace didn't release a full-lenght album, she did after all release several of singles during this period; Let Joy and Innocence Prevail (From the movie "Toys) and 7 Day Weekend (From the movie "Boomerang"). But no; no record ever came. My personal favorite mix of Sex Drive is the "Sex Pitch Mix" which has a fantastic beat and it's also much easier to listen to. The two other mixes "Hard Drive Mix" and "Dominatrix Mix" are good, but as mentioned, hard to sit through. Addition to this release is the title track "Typical Male" which is great and definitely worth a listen. I definitely recommend that you pick this up, it won't be around forever ya' know. After all as fans we must cling on to every single bit we can of Grace's music; because who knows if she'll ever release a new album. The last record was in 1989, 15 years ago, and she's only recorded a handful of songs since then; the aforementioned songs and her collaboration with Tricky "Hurricane" and her collaboration with Funkstar Deluxe. She also recorded a fairly good song for the soundtrack of "Freddy the Frog" called "Evilmaynia" which is impossible to find anywhere.
"Sex Drive" is one of the best singles Grace Jones ever released.
Unfortunately, very few people know this...

In 1993, I was working as a DJ at a college radio station in North Carolina
when we received some promo copies of "Sex Drive."
It contained 3 versions of the title song, plus powerful track called "Typical Male".
(NOT to be confused with the Tina Turner song of the same name!)
All 4 tracks were excellently produced, industrial-techno-rave numbers,
and I was certain that "Sex Drive" was going to be a big hit.

I also assumed that a full-length techno album would soon follow. I was very excited,
because it had been a few years since her last album, "Bulletproof Heart,"
which wasn't all that great.

Too be honest, I preferred the "Hard Drive" mix of track the title song.
I never cared much for the other 2 mixes, and we weren't allowed to play "Typical Male"
on the air because of its explicit lyrics ("The Typical Male thinks with his D**K!!!").

Unfortunatley, I was the only DJ at the station who bothered to play "Sex Drive",
and none of my friends outside the station were even aware that she had a new song out.
Even my gay friends--big time Grace Jones fans--were surprised when I told them
about the "Sex Drive" single. None of them had even heard of it.

Meanwhile, a friend of mine in Atlanta told me on the phone that "Sex Drive"
was getting constant airplay on some of the radio stations where she lived.

"Sex Drive" came and went without a trace, and no full-length techno album ever appeared.
Luckily, the "Hard Drive" and "Sex Pitch" mixes are now available on ISLAND LIFE-2,
but unfortunately, "Typical Male" wasn't included.

What could have been a major come-back for Grace's career never happened, but used copies
of the original "Sex Drive" CD single are fairly easy to find in the AMAZON marketplace.

It's a perfect song for her. She was just ahead of the dominatrix curve way back when, even though you know she'd likely already toyed with plenty else by that point! The sound is quite hard-core, it's hard&fast driving edge unlike anything else she'd done, which alone makes it a must have for her fans. The spiky sorta dance-hop sound they produced is already classic&the smaqin' house baseline pops me in a more satisfyin' way than really just about any other. Cheers to her for knowing how to get such consistently raw sounds!! I also like the shiny black on black of the plastic jewel case... What's next + + + We've been kept panting for tooo long...

(A little repetitive, but great.)

(SUBLIME! MUSICAL PERFECTION! 10 STARS NOT ENOUGH.)

(brilliant, premiere!)
The one I bought had a different cover, but the same tracklist. It's nice to hear extended versions, as well as previously unreleased tracks.

My only gripe with the score is the slight clipping on some of the tracks, and this is the case with every recording that I have heard.

This is a great score, and along with the solid performances by the actors, makes the film great.

Ennio Morricone's score for Cinema Paradiso is inspired. There is, in my opinion, no more perfectly-suited score for a film. I purchased the original DRG version as soon as possible after seeing the film. The great thing about this "newer" version is that is features additional tracks--the more the better, in this case. Melodic, sweet, nostalgic, and lyrical. The absolute best of Morricone, universally acclaimed, and among the favorites of the composer's admirers [and there are legions]. A wonderfully engaging listening experience apart from the film.

One of my favorite selections [that may not be an obvious choice for many] is the medley that underscores the movie-reel montage, where the composer takes the main theme and plays it in different styles, including dixieland, swing, and lush-romantic. The love theme, co-composed by the Maestro's son Andrea [then a budding composer], is almost too beautiful. This is music that sweeps you along, rising and falling at just the right moment.

This music has been widely emulated in commercials to evoke nostalgia for a time-gone-by. And, for good reason, it's just plain delightful.

ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL TOP 5 MORRICONE ON ANYONE'S LIST.

fast shipping from caiman_com, I ordered it during the Christmas holidays and received it right before the New Year's Eve. Far beyond my estimation! Besides, the most important thing is the soundtract. This CD has 23 tracts. I compared this one with another version: "Cinema Paradiso: Original Soundtrack Recording (1988 Film) [SOUNDTRACK]" and found out that the former one included all the tracts the latter had and much more than that. The price between these two version is very similar. That's why I bought this imported soundtract! The quality of the songs is perfect!

This CD is a great companian with the original movie! It will remind you of every sentimental scene in the film. Highly recommanded!

Available for the first time the complete version of the super soundtrack composed by Morricone for the Oscar prize film by Giuseppe Tornatore. Containing 9 previously unreleased tracks!

(Lucia)

(Watch it for the photography - not for the plot)

(Not well understood... I guess)

(Why did I buy this?)

(a amazing sountrack to an amazing movie)
The music on the movie makes the soundtrack seem worth waiting. The songs are slow and hard to hear. They must have been replayed at certain segements over and over. They CD is not worth the wait. I w liked the version played on the movie than on the CD.
I am not going to comment on the gorgeous scenery and the steamy sex scenes. Other reviewers have said plenty on the subject. I will comment on the plot and the script. The plot must have been written by a 13-year old aspiring mystery writer. Too many coincidences piled up on top of each other. I know, the director was going for magical realism, but too many elements of the plot were contrived. All the loose ends end up tying in one big awkward knot. The writer took the characters by the scruffs of their necks and brought them into the same place, just so the movie would end on a happy note.
Alberto Iglesias has an incredible taste to create spaces where we can populate and let our senses loose to regain a certain affaire with our most inner expressions. In the Soundtrack we follow the experiences and love that in an intricate way develop in the screen; never the less, the music calls for an introspection that goes beyond a light listening and demands from us all to 'disconnect' our normal predatorily mind and tune into a different intent, one that calls and talks about the mystery and beauty of human relationships, the hardships, the clouded and blotched areas as well as the lovingly sense of fulfilling that arises from sensing that we have found that special person, despite what this love demands from us.

Craziness, hope and misery, aren't we all plagued by the same desires and needs?

Iglesias, who normally works with Almodovar, scores a perfect mix of emotions, colours and bright sunny rays of Spanish island in Balear, a dreamland where the magical takes place and where the populated characters have to go down to in order to discover the veils of their senses.

If anything, this music will get you in touch with those areas that need most to be reviewed in order to come to terms with what you think about life-love-sex.

I would not know what to do without this music by my side!
Buy, listen and share the tunes with friends and loved ones!!

I loved the movie and for some reason was left with the impression that it was filled with wonderful music. So I bought the CD and was suprised to find almost nothing on it worth listening to. Almost the whole CD is ambient, drone type background noise that was probably very effective in the film but not something I would listen to seperately.
It DOES feature the beautiful"Me Voy a Morir de Tanto Amor"which is probably why I bought the CD in the first place but don't get fooled. 95% of the music is not in that style.

Alberto Iglesias' score to "Sex and Lucia" was one of the best parts of the movie. anyone who appreciates good music will love this album
Alberto Iglesias has composed the perfect atmospheric&sensual score to compliment one of the most talked about films of the year. Reminiscent of works by Mark Isham, This soundtrack won the Goya Award (Spain's Equivalent of the Oscars) for Best Original Score. Also included are three tracks by popular Spanish Performers, Including hip-hop star Mala Rodriguez, the alternative duo Fangoria,&pop icon Carlos Jean. Palm Pictures.

(Great for youth Bible studies)

(Excellent Book, but definately not for pre-teens)
I used this with a bible study I was doing with 14-16 year old girls on purity. I thought it was great, and really opened up the door for a lot of discussions. I would definitely recommend it, although probably not for pre-teens or younger teens. Watch it before you show it to make sure it is appropriate for the group you are working with.
This books clearly shows the consequences of premarital sex, by telling about real teens and their experiences. It gets rather explicit in some areas, so, like it says on the back of the book, it's not for anyone under 14. However, this book can help a teen make good decisions about dating and premarital sexual relationships.

(first time around)
as a collector of vintage gay films, this was a excellent example of
good work.

Modeled after the French classic La Ronde(The Round), this film explores coming out, with humor as well as pathos. Successive "first time" encounters between good-looking men are captured in a 'round of firsts' in a film that highlights outdoor sex, uniforms and "straight" men; natural action

("Calomine Won't Work on this One")

(Monroe was Monroe)

(Set Traps, Hunt&Fish!)

(Doesn't quite scratch the itch...)

(The seven Year itch)
If you combine the humorous Walter Mitty-type fantasies with a senario that includes a male writer staying at home for the summer to write, a wife and kid shipped off to avoid the heat, a voluptuous, georgeous new female neighbor that needs to chat, needs advice, and knows just who to ask, and sweltering temperatures in all areas, well, you have one of the funniest of comedies on film. It is not long before we realize the little scenes we often see are in Tom Ewell's head, wishful thinking on his part. Marilyn plays it as only Marylin can. Of course if Tom got to realize any of his fantasies, it would not be the same, and it is the reaching for but not quite grasping, and Marilyn's innocence at not knowing all the havoc she is wreaking in this man's limbic system, that make this film. That and the white-dress scene.
The only thing this movie has going for it is Marilyn Monroe, and that's just not enough. Tom Ewell plays a blundering fool who loses his competence at the very sight of her. If there are laughs in this advertised comedy, I must have dozed off at the time.

The setting is New York of a bygone era, complete with Automats and sans universal air conditioning. I lived there then. Ewell's wife and family have gone to the sticks to avoid the summer heat, and Monroe has taken the apartment upstairs. Ewell's mouth falls open at the scent of her, as he tries to woo her into his--his--he's not sure what, but to his lair, for starters.

There's the famous scene of MM standing over the subway grid and having her skirt blow up to reveal her legs. The giant cutout of that on Times Square revealed more than is revealed in the movie. It offended Joe DiMaggio, her husband, but it had little to do with the movie. The one memorable line was the claim that MM kept her daities in the "ice box" during the summer.

The movie is dated, silly and a little embarrassing. Monroe did better.

I just watched this movie for the very 1st time on television.... I thought it was fabulously funny in a light/campy sort of way. Lots of typical cliches as this movie pokes fun at the institution of marriage. Husbands are depicted as getting the so called "itch" to chase after women after seven years of marriage.

Great acting by Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell. Lots of funny mishaps and so on make this a great classic film.

The concept behind `The Seven Year Itch', and in ways even its execution, I really `get', but there is just something about the finished product that feels underdone, or maybe just done wrong. I am new to the Billy Wilder fan club, but I've grown to adore just about every movie he's done. This is the only one of the six I've seen this past month that doesn't sit right with me as a finished product. In parts I love it, but lumped together it just doesn't translate well for me.

The story is one that I think is brilliantly crafted, because it is so much more than a mere tale of attraction. This is a study of the male libido; the lies we tell ourselves to convince ourselves we deserve love and admiration. This is a delicately crafted tale of intentional deceit and for that it deserves some major recognition. The film centers on Richard Sherman, a successful married man who sends his wife and son away for the summer. Unlike his male counterparts, Richard is determined not to fall into the summer fling territory, but then he meets a beautiful blonde staying in his apartment complex for the summer and soon his imagination is going haywire.

The entire film is shot like one long soliloquy, which at times adds to the humor but in the end takes away from the seriousness of the films subject. The ranting of Richard is at times funny and witty and at other times overdone and irritating in its redundancy. This may be due to the fact that actor Tom Ewell is slightly obnoxious in his delivery, but I think that talking every thought and emotion of a character would be hard on any actor.

Marilyn Monroe is without doubt the highlight of the film, for her infectiously bouncy portrayal of the desirable yet unattainable woman is spot on perfection. This was an iconic role for Miss Monroe, one that she will always be remembered for, and with good reason. She captures the naivety and innocence that makes a girl of her nature so desirable, and she serves up some of the funniest moments in the film.

In the end, the idea behind `The Seven Year Itch' is far more rewarding than the finished product. I absolutely adore the concept and believe wholeheartedly in the message. It is honest and rich with purity in its depiction (or attempted depiction) of the `real' man and his struggle with self security. I just wish that the film had been handled differently. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong, since it was adapted from a stage play where soliloquy form is much more tolerable and necessary, but that is why film adaptations have to take liberties with material. What plays out as believable and normal even on the stage comes off as awkward and uncomfortable on the screen.

I won't say that you should stay away from this film, just know that it is not as effective as Wilder's other films. It still has that humor he is (was) so famous for, it just doesn't feel as complete or as satisfying as a film like `Some Like it Hot' or `Irma la Douce'.

A movie they had trouble getting made to the fact that at the time it was taboo to show a married man having an affair on screen. In order to get around it they made the whole affair a fantasy in his head. The part the really surprise me about this 1955 movie was that the husband actually cared about his weight and health as that wasn't an issue normally talk about in most movies of 1950s and 1960s like you might have mention in movies today.
A married man finds himself living like a bachelor when his wife goes on vacation. He discovers a model neighbor. Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 05/30/2006 Starring: Tom Ewell Evelyn Keyes
A married man, left alone during a hot summer, fantasizes madly about the impossibly gorgeous woman living in the upstairs apartment. When the woman is Marilyn Monroe, such fantasies are the stuff of epics, andThe Seven Year Itchis a memorable laugh machine. Tom Ewell, repeating his role from George Axelrod's Broadway hit, plays the itchy protagonist, whose vivid imagination gets the better of him. When Monroe finally comes downstairs and becomes friends (confiding, among other things, that she keeps her undies in the icebox in this hot weather), imagination meets reality in a merciless attack on the male libido. Ewell's crack timing is matched by Monroe's zesty comic flair, and the scene in which her white dress is blown skyward by a passing subway train has entered the encyclopedia of great movie images. Director Billy Wilder adapted the play with Axelrod; if the film is not one of Wilder's signature works (Some Like It HotandThe Apartmentwould soon follow), it is nevertheless a smoothly crafted comedy.--Robert Horton

(Original Sin (Unrated Version))

(A film you will love to watch again and again!)

(IT'S JUST ME, BUT:)

(Just sinful)

(Great Transaction)
One of my favorite Angelina movies of all time....Keeps you in suspense, because you just never know what's going to happen next.
To be frank, I naturally didn't keep a lot of expectations from the film 'Original Sin' when I first heard of it, I just thought of it as just another 'Sex flick' but to my surprise I was forced to change my opinion when I saw it. Its not just about physical relationships, but a story with depth. The chemistry betweeen Antonio Banderas and Jolie is beyond words. Jolie is the lady in the film you will love to hate initially but slowly you will start loving her. The film undergoes certain twists, but nevertheless a sattisfying ending. You wont be dissapointed at all.
JOLIE IS GREAT AS THE THEIVING MAIL ORDER BRIDE. bANDERAS IS GREAT AS THE WEALTHY LAND ORDER WHO NEEDS THE MAIL ORDER BRIDE. JM
This movie is not all sex like some may say, but the story it tell is great.
Great Transaction, Very fast. Product was flawless. Will do business again with this seller
Original Sinbelongs in the "so bad it's good" category of languid potboilers, offering enough nudity, sexual chemistry, and far-fetched plotting to make it an enjoyable lazy-day diversion. Based on Cornell Woolrich's novelWaltz into Darkness(previous filmed by François Truffaut asMississippi Mermaid) and set in turn-of-the-century Cuba, the film traces a tailspin of amorous obsession when coffee plantation owner Luis (Antonio Banderas) discovers that his American mail-order bride (Angelina Jolie) is not the plain wife he'd expected, but a beautiful, scheming thief who's after his fortune. The movie asserts that love is truly blind, but absurd twists of plot make Luis appear more stupid than passionate. Writer-director Michael Cristofer fared better with Jolie inGia; here, he's made another good-looking film about beautiful people, but its plot just can't be taken seriously.--Jeff Shannon
