When my grandchildren get older I'm going to suggest that they watch these films which teach the importance of love and honor and chastity.
This is the type of movie everyone shoudl watch when they are growing up.
It's not that complicated.』
(Don't Abstain) 『This DVD deserves five stars for it's tagline alone, "But I thought I came from a stork!"
Watching the kids in these films, it's possible that some of them really did think they were magically created.
These "educational" shorts were made by the governement in the 1950s in order to scare teenagers away from having sex. They feature teenage characters who seem to have never heard of sex itself - they worry about whether kissing is "going to far!"
I can only imagine that even back in the 1950s the kids watching this laughed as much as I did after I popped it into my DVD player.
It just goes to show that parents have been in dennial about their children's sex lives forever.』 『If ever there was a historical DVD that has contemporary implications, this is it. It's funny to think that back in the 1950s, parents and schools were having the same debates about sex education that we are today. These films, all made for in-school educational purposes, are a collection of the wisdom on teen sexuality that parents wanted to impart to their offspring in the fabulous `50s. Sometimes funny, at other times touching and even a little silly, these clips are a fascinating voyage into a past that it not so different from our present.
What it reminds the viewer is that teens were just as confused about their bodies and relationships 50 years ago as they are today. Of course some of the attitudes seem a little dated - one clip features a story about whether a girl should go "necking" with her boyfriend - a quaint worry when today we discuss whether condom usage should be discussed or not. Other films are timeless - including a sensitive film explaining menstruation to girls in their early teens. Overall this is a pretty timely collection of film clips.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Cheap Trick Rules!) 『Gotta love Cheap Trick. A band that is insultingly NOT included in the so called "Rock&Roll hall of fame". This collection is pretty good. I love the inclusion of the unreleased songs from "Rock&Rule". Some of my favorites weren't there but all in all this is a great Box set and is a must for any hard core Cheap Trick fan.』
(Great Collection, Especially For The Cheap Trick Fan) 『Sony records does something smart, putting together a four-disc box set commemorating the Wisconsin band's 20th anniversary but letting the group actually compile the songs. After one listen I knew that this was a compilation done for the sake of fans of the group, rather than the ubiquitous "greatest hits" package. And that's a good thing, seeing as how fully half of the music here is unreleased material, including some covers, demos, and even some live sessions featuring bassist Tom Petersson on lead vocals. The liner notes are fabulous, reading like a Cheap Trick history lesson through their first twenty years. I had the good fortune to have a brief conversation with Robin Zander last summer, and it was evident that the band still tours and records because they love to perform for their fans. This "box set" definitely shows that as well.』
(Very Good, but for fans only) 『Cheap Trick was in their heyday in the 70's any album they made during that time is an essential purchase. The 80's songs we're mostly hit or miss(unfortunately they missed more than they hit). The 90's saw them return to the charts, but as a pop-rock act. That basically describes the box set. The first two CD's are very good, taking mostly from their 70's albums and unreleased tracks(some now available on the CD reissues). The third CD taking mostly from their 80's material is hit or miss but does have a few suprises in the unreleased material. The fouth CD is probably the most passible of the four but does have a few good songs on it. My only big complaint is that their cover from the John Lennon tribute album"Cold Turkey"(the best song on that album) is not on it. Like I stated it is only for fans of Cheap Trick, the curious should check out either the 70's albums, preferably the first three, or even the Authorized Greatest Hits album.』
(Terrific box set) 『I was not at all that familiar with Cheap trick before I aquired this box set. Of course I had heard a couple of songs on the radio, but that was about all my knowledge of them. And so, listening to this set of 4 discs and reading the very informative 40 page booklet, I now consider myself a fan, and plan on purchasing other albums of theirs in the future. This is what a box set should be like. It is packed with not just their hits and album tracks, but also B-Sides, Outtakes, and alternate versions that cannot be found anywhere else but on this set. So that alone makes this a must for any fan. Spanning the years 1976 to 1995, this a terrific overview of a terrific band. Too bad they're no longer together.』
(Satisfying SEX, AMERICA) 『The four-disc SEX, AMERICA box set covers Cheap Trick's recording career from 1976 through 1992.
SEX, AMERICA strikes a good balance. It delivers rarities for the long-time fans, practically every well-known Cheap Trick song for the casual listener, and some album tracks. If there were ever a recipe for anthologies, it's rarities, hits and album tracks.
Cheap Trick has contributed to a number of movie soundtracks. Perhaps licensing problems prevented every such tune from inclusion in SEX, AMERICA. One such song I wanted, their title song from the movie UP THE CREEK, did not make it to SEX, AMERICA.
Jon Brandt, who played bass for Cheap Trick during Tom Petersson's 1982-1988 sabbatical, deserves more credit than the SEX, AMERICA package gives him. He certainly deserves more pictures - Brandt is nowhere to be found in the souvenir booklet photographs. The faces of Rick Nielsen, Bun E. Carlos, Robin Zander and Petersson appear one apiece on SEX, AMERICA's four compact discs. But ironically, the disc with Petersson's face represents the six years Brandt was the bass man for Cheap Trick. Certainly one of Cheap Trick's killer LPs, STANDING ON THE EDGE, was recorded with Jon Brandt, not Tom Petersson, on bass guitar. Another of the band's play-louds, ONE ON ONE, had Nielsen, not Petersson, playing bass!
As I write this (Nov. '00), a number of Cheap Trick albums are not available. If someone asked me to recommend three or four of Cheap Trick's best, rather than name albums that may be out of print, I would tell them to start their collection with SEX, AMERICA.』
『Cheap Trick may no longer be playing the stadiums that the group's monumental talent surely warrants, but they do have one of the most loyal cult followings in all rock&roll. Thus, when Epic Records decided to release a four-disc box set celebrating the quartet's 20th anniversary with the label, someone there was smart enough to let the band put together a collection for the collectors. Which means 32 of the 64 tracks here are previously unreleased, including many live cover tunes (Beatles, Velvet Underground), demo takes, and a few things only a fan would want. Some hits are here (including "Surrender"), but, as a good example, there's no "He's a Whore," which Cheap Trick probably figured their fans should already own.--Bill Holdship』

He saw it on HBO and said that it really made an impression on him. I had no idea how prudish we are, in this seemingly modern world, when it comes to intimacy. This film is great for men to help them get a better understanding of female sexuality. It is great for women, to help us better understand and embrace our blessed sensual side. I highly recommend that parents watch it to help them understand how to and how NOT to talk to their children about sex.』
(The Eye-Opening "O Tapes" by Gary Schubach, Ed.D., A.C.S.) 『Imagine, if you will, a hard-hitting, no holds barred, in-your-face documentary on the most taboo subject in contemporary society. Now imagine, if you can, making that film so skillfully and so thoughtfully that the end product is a breathtakingly beautiful work of art, and you will have some idea of what to expect from O Tapes Special Edition, a RoseWorks film. The sheer beauty of this film is almost distracting, and, in this case, that beauty goes clear to the bone. From its elegant simplicity, to the thoughtfulness of the questions, to the presentation of the women, to the supportive environment they were obviously able to create, this is a work of genius.
For example, instead of just filming a bunch of women answering questions, as most documentary makers would, the makers of this film had the wisdom and the sensitivity to present the women they interviewed at their very best. It's almost like the women are sitting for formal portraits by one of the world's top photographers, and we are eavesdropping on private conversations between the two of them. One can even imagine a top-notch portrait photographer asking such questions en route to getting some truly outstanding shots.
Fortunately, the content of O Tapes Special Edition is just as outstanding as the production values. Instead of trying to force all women into the same mold, as so many attempts to understand women have done, this film seems to celebrate the diversity of women. This variety is not only apparent in the racial diversity of the women interviewed, it is equally diverse in the women's reactions and opinions. For example, in the section on the importance of penis size, opinions varied all the way from "very important" to "not a factor," leaving viewers with the entirely correct notion that there is no "right answer" to the question of whether penis size is important.
To me, the most outstanding part of this outstanding film was the section on "faking it." I remember thinking when the name of the section came up that, if there was going to be any bull in this film, it would surely be found here. Not only did these women have the courage and candor to admit they had faked orgasm, most expressed no hesitation to do so again in the future if conditions warranted. Faking orgasm was finally and correctly identified as the loving act of a woman who cares about her partner too much to ever let him think he failed as her lover. I think an awful lot of men are going to see this film and realize that it is unrealistic to think their women are not faking orgasm, at least occasionally, and that the only way to eliminate the need for such faking is for the woman to know that it really is okay if she doesn't have an orgasm every time.
My highly respected film professor used to say that any critique of a piece of work should have something that is either lacking or doesn't work perfectly. So, if there is anything that could be construed as criticism, it would be that there is so much content in the film that I hope that this filmmaker will make other films focusing on the subjects raised in O Tapes Special Edition.
This is a film you will want to have in your library because you will want to see it more than once. The second time you see it you will be amazed by how much you failed to notice the first time through, and the third time only slightly less so. There is so much content packed into this beautiful 90-minute film that you could probably watch it ten times and still not have gotten it all. Every time you play it, it will refresh your soul.』 『The Provocative SHOWTIME Exclusive everyone is talking about is now on DVD! with over 30 minutes of Extra Bonus Material Never Before Seen! 『They are the stories that have been swept under history's rug... until now. With millions of men facing death at any moment, it is no real surprise that many sought release and escape in sex. SEX IN WORLD WAR II goes into the brothels, between the sheets, and around the world in three steamy and surprising volumes that show why, for many Americans, the war constituted "the best years of our lives."THE PACIFIC FRONT visits an oceanfront Waikiki hotel that was the centerpiece of one of the busiest red-light districts in the world, where 200 enterprising women made millions of dollars. THE EUROPEAN FRONT looks at the countless romances between American GIs and European women and tells the story of an American debutante who helped seduce away the secrets of the Nazi Enigma code machine. And THE HOME FRONT tells of "patriotutes," pinups and the spark that war put into existing relationships, as well as exploring the FBI investigation of an ensign with a prominent family name who had a torrid affair with an alleged Nazi spy.Dangerous liaisons, heartwarming romances and tragic endings pepper this fascinating look at SEX IN WORLD WAR II.』 タイトル『 Divide of the Sexes: Gender Roles in Childhood (VHS videotape) - Films for the Humanities and Sciences >
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Really dated) 『This movie is one of the tame early sixties "sex comedies" that contained little comedy and no sex. The first part of the movie is very slow and talky. There are only a couple of laughs and they aren't really that funny.
Once the car chase begins, things get a little more interesting, but not much. It starts off funny but gets silly and predicatable. The best part is when all the actors get on an American Airlines plane to Fiji- American never flew there.
Even the cartoon on the DVD stinks.
However, if you like to look at Natalie Wood at her sexiest, a little of Leslie Parrish- who I think never got a real chance, and Fran Jeffries, then the movie won't be a total waste of time.
Just don't say you weren't warned.』
(Sex and the Single Girl) 『I felt that this movie was attempting to imitate the Doris Day movies, and it fell short. Natalie Wood was very stilted in her performance. She had a lot of talent, but it wasn't evident in this movie.』
(Great fun.) 『This is a fun adult comedy where "adult" means appealing to non-children and not for obscene content. Natalie Wood and Tony Curtis are good together but Henry Fonda and Lauren Bacall steal the show as Tony's bickering married neighbors. Natalie is gorgeous here and any fan should buy this movie for that. For the rest of us, just sit back and watch some funny situations grow to out-of-hand laugh riots.
Some of the dialog and attitudes are clearly out-of-date but really, for a movie over 40 years old, it isn't that far from today's outlooks. In short, you should be entertained by the jokes and situations anyway. Recommended』
("I'm going to Fiji, where the women are women and the men are worms!") 『The whole world is buzzing with Helen Gurley Brown's revolutionary new book "Sex and the Single Girl", but what if Helen's, shall we say, not as familiar with the practice as she is with theory? That's the idea that propells Stop Magazine's star writer Bob Weston (Tony Curtis) to pen an explosive article that could tear Helen's professional reputation to shreds.
Disguising himself as his neighbour, stocking manufacturer Frank Broderick (Henry Fonda), Bob pours out his heart and soul to sex therapist Helen (Natalie Wood), who concludes that "Frank" feels imasculated by domineering wife Sylvia (Lauren Bacall) and in turn sees her as a father figure. Pretty soon the sparks begin to fly, and demure Helen starts falling for her sympathetic client...
Arguably Natalie Wood's most adorable and accomplished comedy performance, SEX AND THE SINGLE GIRL is a candy-coloured romp with some of the most talented stars from the period. Lauren Bacall is delicious as the snide Sylvia with most of the choice one-liners. Singing star Fran Jeffries (who later married director Richard Quine) plays Bob's girlfriend and has no less than three great numbers with the swinging Count Basie orchestra. Also keep an eye out for lovely Leslie Parrish in a small but showy role as Bob's secretary. 1930s screwball character actor Edward Everett Horton is the editor of Stop Magazine and has some great scenes with Curtis.
Natalie Wood and Tony Curtis would be reunited the following year for Blake Edwards' epic comedy "The Great Race".』
(Haven't received product) 『Today is May 16, 2009. I was promised my purchase before the 12th of May. As of this date have not received product.
』 『Once upon a time there was a publishing phenomenon calledSex and the Single Girl, a book that opened the door to the sexual revolution in the 1960s. Sure enough, Hollywood noticed, and Helen Gurley Brown's advice volume was turned into a 1964 sex comedy with a newly invented plot. Natalie Wood plays Brown herself (well, a completely fictionalized person named Helen Brown), whose success as an author infuriates Tony Curtis, a writer for aPlayboy-esque men's magazine. He pretends to need her help as a psychologist, a masquerade that leads to sparks. It's all vintage stuff, from Tony's swinging bachelor pad to the barrel-sized highballs slugged down by unhappy marrieds Henry Fonda and Lauren Bacall, who live next door to Curtis. Director Richard Quine (Bell Book and Candle) made some sharp comedies around this time, and there are some good sight gags along the way (check the scene, with Count Basie and his orchestra, of Fonda and Bacall doing the twist). Alas, the movie leans a little too easily on the bedroom-farce leer, which Curtis had perfected at this point, and it's clear that Gurley Brown's ideas about female independence are not taken terribly seriously here. The movie's got a nice performance by screwball-comedy stalwart Edward Everett Horton, and smokin' hot '60s songstress Fran Jeffries contributes a few songs (this was about the time she sashayed intoThe Pink Panther, too--she must have impressed Richard Quine, because they were married shortly thereafter). One intriguing credit: this is one of the few films partly scripted byCatch-22author Joseph Heller. Try to find his voice, if you can.--Robert Horton』 『A sex farce very loosely based on "Sex and the Single Girl" by Helen Gurley Brown』

(Good movie - Lynn whitefield SOARS) 『I saw this movie when it originally came out and thought it was a good movie. Unlike many I feel Martin Lawrence is best doing standup, as an example in his TV show Martin he was notable for slapstick and urban shtick, but the efforts of Tisha Campbell, and the rest of the cast made the show a classic. My opinion is the same for this movie, Martin puts in a cliched, effort that shows he was more full of himself than his character or his acting talent suggests. Luckily he surrounded himself with a strong supporting cast including a sober Bobby Brown, who may have had some acting chops back then! If you consider the wonderful mix of the iconic Della Reese whose has entertained us since the 50's and 60's, Lynn whitfield who is no doubt one of our most unheralded stars since the 70's (Josephine Baker story) and Regina king who has shown her talent and range from TV and now to movies and no doubt will be entertaining us for a long time and of course Roger Mosely who is always solid this could be considered an all star cast. THE STORY LINE is ok, I would love to have seen someone else play a smooth debonair young entrepenuer ladies man who wins over an obviously older, more refined, (and deranged) wealthy woman. The pacing and interplay between characters was good and enjoyable until Lynn Whitfield's character basically took over the last 3rd of the movie! Her portrayal early was right on as sexy, above it all with a hint of something odd about her. As the movie progressed and it became clear Martin's character was way over his head as Ms Whitfield basically took over with a riveting portrayal as the sicko dangerous jilted woman, who exuded sexy throughout, hell in my opinion she was more malevolent then Glen Close. I agree this movie really isnt that funny (are any of Martin's movies funny?) but it is an enjoyable suspense movie thanks to Lynn whitfield performance and support from the rest of the cast. Put an real actor in this movie like Bokeem Woodbine or Allan Payne and this would have been something!』
(I personally loved this ;-)) 『I often go back to watching this movie every now and then because I really do like it. It's not Oscar material for sure, but it's good and enjoyable and almost anything that Martin Lawrence is in, is great. He's funny and yet in this, you can see he's got a more serious side too. I do agree with some other reviewers that it is a semi cross between Fatal Attraction and Boomerang. There are moments of comedy and moments of insanity with the female lead. Darnell meets Brandi outside his club, Chocolate City, and she looks like she has it all. Limo driver, fine crib in Malibu, good paying job, but that's only the surface. He can't say he wasn't warned. His mother (Della Reese) said near the start that there is a fine line between love and hate, and also Brandi (Lynn Whitfield) told Darnell that it wouldn't be a good thing if she were hurt and she also told him in bed for their first time, that she'd killed her husband because he'd been abusive. He should have heard warning bells then, but didn't. I love watching this; it's funny in parts and also fun watching Brandi go off the deep end. I love the music throughout the movie and if you are a fan of Black cinema, then check it out. It's an old favourite of mine and really enjoy it.』 『No Description Available. Watching it again recently what I had forgotten was how funny it is. The makers were clearly influenced a little by some of the early Woody Allen films like 'Take the Money and Run'. This film also points the way for Airplane and the Naked Gun etc.
The film consists of a series of spoof adverts and parodies of specific film genres. The centerpiece of which is "A Fistful of Yen", which is a marvellous comedy version of "Enter the Dragon".
Although as Amazon point out it has dated a little, I thought for a film made 32 years ago much of it was still relevant and crucially still very funny.
I picked this up very cheap in a supermarket in the UK, so shop around as there is no need to pay a lot for it. 』
(Outrageous TV parody) 『This movie is nothing but pure outrageous tv parody. By today's standards it's relatively tame (with the exception of the politically incorrect themes),but that's because television has changed. When KFM was released it was dead on target and one of a handful of tv parody films. The first film by the guys responsible for the Airplane! and Naked Gun films, it was a preview of things to come. Unfortunately, in these PC times films like this can't be made. And I think that's a shame. Somewhere down the line we forgot how to laugh at ourselves. Have a good laugh.』
(Not hilarious.) 『There are maybe one or two good laughs in this longish 83 minute movie. For a much, much funnier movie in this vein check out "Amazon Women On The Moon". That will give you your money's worth in crude laughs. This one has the T&A, but not the humor. I found the sketches often way too long and short on anything approaching hilarity as some reviewers would have you believe. The Bruce Lee spoof was ridiculously long, the rest, short of all the T&A, largely forgetable. This movie was inane. And that's too much praise even. It may have started a genre, but fortunately that genre was largely improved upon in following years. And even then, to say it started a genre is not completely accurate. The Monty Python crew were doing ridiculous (and hilarious) sketches in their Flying Circus (1969) long before this kind of thing even took hold in the not-so-prime time players of Saturday Night Live when that first aired in 1975. According to the bios on the extras portion of this DVD though, the Zucker brothers had been doing a theater version of the Kentucky Fried movie since 1969, so who knows - maybe this kind of thing was just 'in the air' on either side of the Atlantic. John Landis, who directed The Kentucky Fried Movie, did much better things than this in Animal House, The Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf in London (great!), Trading Places, Spies Like Us and Coming to America. The Zucker Brothers, who wrote the script, also produced Airplane and Ruthless People (and the Naked Gun and Top Secret). OK, OK, watch it for history's sake, but don't expect hilarity. "Amazon Women On The Moon" is still a much better ride for your money. This one is mediocre at best.』
(2 stars out of 4) 『The Bottom Line:
A textbook example of how poorly comedy ages, Kentucky Fried Movie is a series of gags from the 70s which mainly don't work anymore; occasionally funny but more often dated, it's enough to make one appreciate Airplane a little bit more.』
(A bit of wicky, wacky, wicky) 『I've had this movie on VHS for years and finally go around to buying it on DVD. This movie rates in my top 5 funnest movies of the 70's. It spoofs TV commercials, TV news, documentaries, porn movies, Enter the Dragon, and court TV. It deserves the "R" rating, even by today's standards, for nudity and raunchy humor.』 『THIS INSANE COLLECTION OF COMEDY SKITS INCLUDES SUCH NOW FAMOUS SKETCHES AS THE KUNG-FU PARODY, A FISTFUL OF YEN, AND THE LEGENDARY CATHOLIC SCHOOL GIRLS IN TROUBLE. ENJOY THE FUTURE OF MOVIEGOING WITH THE FEEL-A-ROUND THEATER EXPERIENCE.』 『Twenty years before the Farrelly Brothers turned raunch into acceptable film comedy, the team of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker exploited it first. The college threesome made it big withAirplane!in 1980, but this 1977 cinematic version of their live theater show is ground zero for their talents. LikeThe Groove Tube,Kentucky Fried Movieis a mishmash of sketches, fake commercials, and parodies with no central theme--except their crudeness and laugh-out-loud humor. Highlights include a commercial for "Scot Free," a board game based on the Kennedy assassination conspiracy, "The Wonderful World of Sex," in which a couple goes through foreplay with a self- help narrator instructing them step by step, and a 20-minute spoof of Bruce Lee films entitled "A Fistful of Yen." Brazen to a fault, the movie will reach for any punch line, no matter how crude (and those who flocked to the film's initial release looking for R-rated sex will remember the final sketch and the infamous trailer for "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble.") Directed by then-unknown John Landis on a shoestring budget, the film has aged. But crassness, when it's this funny, is forever.--Doug Thomas』

All this changes when she receives a letter from her sister's recently deceased husband which contains a treasure map, and receives a phone call from her terrified sister held hostage by the same kidnappers (introducing the hilarious Danny Devito and Zack Norman, two partners-in-crime who happen to be cousins) who insists that Joni must deliver the map to her in Colombia. Reluctantly, the borderline agoraphobic Joni agrees, because it's her sister.
After her bus, supposed to be routed to Cartagena but ends up crashing into a jeep filled with exotic birds in the middle of the mountainous nowhere, and she is ordered to give up her purse containing the map to the same man who murdered her husband, the evil Colonel/Minister of Antiquities/Deputy Commander of the Secret Police Zolo (chillingly portrayed by Manuel Ojeda) she is narrowly rescued by a soldier of fortune named Jack T. Colton (Michael Douglas). He becomes embroiled in the struggle for what is at the end of the map, the green, priceless emerald stone. They meet numerous crazy characters along the way and hijinx abounds!
Seeing this movie on blu-ray makes me remember the sheer VISUAL pleasure of its 35mm release! Its 2.35:1 Panavision anamorphic cinematography, lensed by horror maestro John Carpenter alumnus Dean Cundey, is lush. He cut his teeth in Carpenter's early films like Halloween, The Fog, The Thing and Escape from New York, with his trademark cobalt blue night lighting; here, the screen is a tapestry of jungle greenery, flickering orange firelight and lots of wild night hues, complimented with the cool blues of Manhattan at various times of day and night. After this, he would go on to photograph several of director Robert Zemeckis' other works, the Back to the Future trilogy and then Jurassic Park for director Steven Spielberg. His naturalistic lighting lends credibility and yet an elegance and glamour to all these films.
The legendary production designer Lawrence G. Paull, of Blade Runner fame, again works his magic here, making very little, the jungles of Mexico made to be Colombia, look spectacular.
Director Robert Zemeckis, whose career was effectively over after the dismally received (but quite goodj) I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Used Cars, was enlisted by producer Michael Douglas, who recognized the then 28-year-old lad's talent. Douglas, who originally didn't want to play the part of Colton, caved in when all his potential leads declined, and he realized just how rare good parts and scripts are!
Diane Thomas' first script is indeed a gem, filled with action, humor, passionate romance, and a wonderful sensitivity. We really root for our leads! This movie is an example of a cross-genre piece that Hollywood has since always strived to emulate: It has everything; action, romance, suspense, humor, even a rather hot, steamy after-sex scene between our two attractive leads! This makes this movie a favorite in my book. Our two protagonists go through amazing character arcs: The petrified novelista Joan learns how to live. The hardened jungle warrior veteran Jack learns how to love.
The visual quality of the blu-ray release is superb, especially considering that this film was previously only released to DVD in non-anamorphic letterbox. The details, immediately evident in the ruddy, sweaty complexion of Grogan, Angelina's nemesis in the fictitious novelista prologue pre-opening credit sequence, really pop! A real treat!
And, no small sidebar...eureka--the film's original English subtitles are there to explain the Spanish dialogue! The "Cartagena, Colombia" caption when Elaine is captured, as well as Zolo saying "You must be French" to Danny DeVito, who is attempting to do the most ghastly Spanish, Zolo ordering "Assemble your men" to his military commander, and, the most needed, when the bell-maker Juan explains to his henchmen that "this is Joan Wilder, the one who writes the books I read to you on Saturdays!", one of the biggest jokes in the movie. Without the subtitles, in previous versions, if you don't speak Spanish, you're lost.
If I find any faults with this blu-ray release, they apply to to the quality of the soundtrack. The film was released prior to the advent of Dolby Digital 5.1, so one can't expect the kind of in-your-face clarity and realism of today's 5.1 discreet mixes, but, while the sound mixers did a bang-up job of making center dialogue (the crispest I've ever heard it outside a cineplex) completely discreet from the side music and effects channels, the side and rear channels seem to be lacking almost all high frequencies, resulting in a dulling of composer Alan Silvestri's electrifying Latin percussion and the sound of the drizzling rain. Good news is: Bass, especially in the waterfall, is superb and robust.
(sigh) In light of such a gorgeous visual transfer, which makes me remember just what made me fall in love with this film to begin with, I'll forgive the audio faults (for now anyway, until a future version arrives) and enjoy the ride!
The extras, including interviews with our now much-aged cast (ironically, Danny Devito hasn't aged at all) and sumptuous deleted scenes, which contain much of the same dialogue as their film version counterparts, and replace Joan's female editor Gloria with a seemingly docile male editor but whom we know is attracted to Joan, which adds fuel to her fear and mistrust of men, are wonderful, and enhance my appreciation of an already-endearing film.
Put on your aligator boots and prepare for romantic adventure: This one is sure to please!』
(Enjoyably breezy) 『The Bottom Line:
Romancing the Stone is certainly no great film and it would have been much more successful if Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas had exhibited any chemistry at all, but if you want a little light-hearted action/adventure film you probably won't be too disappointed by this 1984 picture about a romance novelist and a soldier of fortune trying to find a precious stone.
2.5/4』
(Fun) 『I'd seen this movie some time ago in the theater and I thought my wife might like it. She had never seen it before. It is as much fun as I remember. The plot is as silly as any Lucas/Speilberg movie, but it really is a take off of all those. Great acting especially by DeVito who chews all the scenery in sight.
Unbelievably evil villians, heroic heroes (of both sexes)a lush and romantic location. Who could want more?』
(Indy-lite) 『I didn't purchase this from amazon (or anywhere, in fact). I received it as a redemption prize, probably from Kellogg's. It appears to be the relatively bare-bones 1999 release.
It's not Indiana Jones but it's not bad, either. Actually it has a lot of the same people behind it as Back to the Future. A little cheezy but nothing that will turn your stomach. But nor is it as imminently re-watchable as Raiders.』
(Romancing the Stone) 『This was a great buy and the retro interviews by Michael Douglas Danny Devito and Kathleen Turner were great but a bit shocking when you see their ages and how they look now!』 『A homebody writer begins to live her stories when her sister is kidnapped in South America. Douglas is a rugged jungle hunter who comes to her aid. Genre:Feature Film-Action/Adventure Rating:PG Release Date:29-AUG-2006 Media Type:DVD』 『Director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump,Contact) had a hit with this 1984 comedy that first teamed Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito. Turner steals the show from the guys, however, playing a pushy romance novelist who gets stuck among some dangerous figures in Colombia and has only a rumpled guide (Michael Douglas) as an ally. The chemistry between the stars is infectious (the trio went on to make a sequel,Jewel of the Nile, and then an interesting, dark comedy directed by DeVito,The War of the Roses). Zemeckis--whose specialty at the time was creating set pieces of raucous action (as in hisBack to the Future)--keeps things hopping with lots of kinetic material.--Tom Keogh』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (only the size of my thumb - too small!) 『Actually I haven't tried this product since I didn't open it bcuz I want to return it (although returning sex toys is technically against their policy.) I agree that it is misrepresnted in the photo. This thing is tiny. It is only about the size of my thumb. Had I known it was this small I wouldn't have bought it. Products really should have size descriptions on them. I was expecting this to be at least 4 inches long, or preferably 6 inches or more :) I love Amazon reviews and the reviews were largely favorable when I ordered this. But I don't see how this little product would give you anything to "hold on to" as one reviewer said.』
(what a joke) 『Doe not waste your money. It is too flimsy and too short. There are less expensive and better on the market』
(Adult fun) 『This product is very soft, borderline limp, but if used correctly it can hit the spot. I had to buy it for my wife because of its small size and well positioned clitoral stimulator. I like her to hold it in while we warm up. Watching the convulsions this little thriller gives her is a real turn on for me. Smell goes away after soaking it for a couple of hours in a highly-fragrant solution of soap and warm water. Take the vibrating egg out before soaking.』
(Wore this thing out and bought another!) 『This toy turned out to be my girlfriends FAVORITE! I bought her hundreds of dollars in various toys in every design I could get to see what she would like the most. This cheap little thing is what she gets the most out of.
She discovered that it works best when she is on her stomach and the weight of the toys handle presses the toy itself just enough downward to lie effectively against her clitoris and stimulate her where she needs it, hands free. We later discovered that inserting a penis into her vagina, above the toy that is inside, as she lies face down, is the internal stimulation she needs for the best orgasms of her life.
She complains that many vibrators make her numb or give her too much stimulation, so the fact that this toy is soft and not that powerful is acceptable for her needs. She says the nubs on the clitoral contact area are the best part of it. The "thumb" looking protrusion that sits inside the vagina is mostly just an anchor, but works to hold it in place for her.
She will not be without one of these in the future. She neglects all of her expensive toys and chooses this one.』

I received the items and I was very unimpressed! The on/off buttons would stick and the other wouldn't turn off at all, very annoying. I left it on until the batteries died few hours later. I contacted Amazon and they refunded me in full, including S&H both ways.』
(Not even half of what it's cracked up to be...) 『I had heard so many great things about this vibe, so I decided to give it a try. I have never been so disappointed in a finger vibe in all my life, and I've owned quite a few. I really don't like to give bad reviews to products, but this just blew me away with it's ineffectiveness.
The supposed "ridges" are barely sensible, the noise is embarrassing, it is ridiculously small, and the battery barely lasts 20 minutes before it starts to get weaker and weaker, until it ultimately dies out, leaving much too much to be desired. If you're like me and take more than 20 minutes to reach climax, you may want to invest in something better; this product doesn't set the bar very high, so it shouldn't be very difficult.』
(Weak battery) 『I actually bought this at Wal-Mart, not through Amazon. Although it was pleasant for the first use, the batteries only last 30 minutes which was very frustrating. Since the vibrator is $10, it's generally a really expensive way to get off. I even bought some replacement batteries on Amazon (because they were $5 a piece in store and the unit takes two), and those lasted for even shorter.』
(Does not live up to the hype) 『Wasn't much vibration to it. I think they would've made a better choice to go with the hard plastic or whatever other's are made from other than this gel. Hard to put on, moves around too much, hard to stay in place when on, not easy to take off. To me it was kind of useless.』

I expected a somewhat softer material like that used today on most soft vibraters, but it was actually hard plastic. Regardless, I inserted this little gem and it went in quite easily using an ample amount of lube.
After a little bit of rocking and wiggling, he remarked that it was somewhat pleasurable but didn't exactly understand what all the hype was about. I tend to agree. Therefore, we gave it three stars based on the idea and the shape, but it could use some improvement.』
(The Progasm is fantastic) 『I was already experienced with the Aneros and have had the regular original one for several years. I was always quite pleased with the original but after reading some of the reviews for their newer product line I decided I needed to try this one. My only complaint with it is that the new ball that is supposed to massage your lower back didn't do anything for me. I actually removed it and since then it has been a wonder. It hits JUST the right spot and offers excellent stimulation. I can easily see where a hands free orgasm might be possible but I get impatient and well, my hands are free...』
(Amazing Product!) 『I have other aneros products but this one is BY FAR my favorite! It gives you a "full" feeling and it touches all the right spots. If you're new to anal/prostate toys you may need to try something a little smaller, although if your adventurous go for it.』
(Works very well) 『My Progasm worked very well. It has a pretty good size and shape, and gives a definite sense of presence. However, neither the perineum- nor K-tabs make very good contact, and only served to make it easier to remove after use. I would love this toy a lot more if it had a vibration function.』
(Really works!) 『This device really sensitizes your erogenous zones. I have had problems reaching orgasm during intercourse, but with the Aneros in place, there is no problem. For extra sensations, I work it in and out with my hand for better prostate massage.

(Worth the look and the buy) 『I absolutely love this book. 1) It is informative and very easy to understand. 2) It is very descriptive and the pictures that accompany the descriptions really do help. 3) While some may deem it pornographic, obviously you would not give it to a child, it is something about sex that helps in this modern world. (For those who want to make love expertly) 『The Kama Sutra, everyone knows the name - a nearly 2,000 year old Sanskrit text on sexuality and relationships between the sexes. Now, authors Kirk (a journalist and illustrator) and Kamini Thomas (a social psychologist) have taken their knowledge on Eastern Spirituality and used it to bring the Kama Sutra up to date for the modern Westerner.
Now, this book is not merely a book of illustrated sexual positions, though that is a large part of the book. The book covers seduction, setting the mood, trust, romance, and so much more. Read this book and you will learn about your own and your partner's bodies, and how to add true adroitness to your lovemaking. This is the book for those who want to not just make love, but make it expertly.
(Review of The Modern Kama Sutra: The Ultimate Guide to the Secrets of Erotic Pleasure)』
(Beautifully Erotic and Infomative) 『Perhaps the book is 4-stars, not 5. My review is designed to dilute the previous one-star condemnation. I'm totally baffled as to what is "pornish" and "juvenile" about this book. (Read my comments on her review.)
To be honest, I'm an interested novice on the subject of Kama Sutra, and probably don't know a 4-star from a 5-star read. I hoped to upload photos from the book for you to make your own decisions, but they are "nude" and forbidden to upload.
The photos are beautifully erotic, full color, lots of light and shadow, upscale, minimally explicit: yes, breasts; yes, some pubic hair; yes -- couples enjoying intercourse. The book is about sex, after all.
Unlike some sex books with illustrations, the photos are clear in "what to do" with one's body, to achieve the pose. Each pose is rated with a degree of difficulty, and type: example "soft, gentle" vs. "deep, intense, hot".
Being a good lover is highly important to me, and I can learn a lot from this book. Is it the best one out there? I have no idea, but I'm delighted that I bought it. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Courtesy of Teens Read Too) 『The Pretty Committee is back, and they are far from love and friendship. In fact, it seems like the more and more they are together, the more they just can't stand each other.
The only thing that is more unstable than their friendship are the boys in their lives.
To cut it short, Massie has moved on to another soccer player, Dempsey, who just so happens to be great friends with Layne. Even though Massie says she's over Derrington, Dylan knows if she tells Massie she has a crush on him, things won't bode well for her.
Kristen finally has the guy she's literally been waiting for but just isn't sure if he is the right person. Claire seems to be the only one without boy trouble, as she finally has Cam back in her life. The only thing on Alicia's mind is deciding whether she should stick around and take Massie's controlling nature or move on to bigger and better friends.
Once again, it seems like the PC are on the brink of breaking up, and the consistency of Massie's overly-boy-loving, bossy self does not help at all. The only character in the entire novel who seems interested in keeping the girls together is Claire.
In this installment, Harrison allows readers to get to know Kristen and Dylan more as they are the main narrators. Kristen seems to have it rougher than the other girls, not just because of how her boy just might not be the right one, but also her friendship with Layne is totally forbidden if Massie ever discovered it. Of course, Layne is a better and loyal friend than Massie, but Kristen just isn't sure if she is able to leave the PC behind. Dylan, on the other hand, understands that it would be the ultimate betrayal to date one of her friend's boys, and Massie is no exception.
Will Kristen, Dylan, and Alicia finally reach a decision that life would be better off without the ringleader to bark orders, or will they be unable to end the friendship that has lasted between them and Massie for so long?
P.S. I LOATHE YOU contains all of the same elements as the other CLIQUE novels: betrayal, gossip, and boys. Fans will not be disappointed in this installment, as they are able to understand Kristen and Dylan more, who were only minor characters in the past.
(Seven out of ten stars) 『When I first got this book, I expected nothing better than the Summer Collection (which I was disappointed by). Massie was being overly-controlling over the cheerleading team and not letting everyone audition or Alicia choreograph. It was obvious Alicia and Massie were going to get into another fight again over the ever-burning alpha-issue. Nonetheless, I'm sad to say that there was hardly any of Massie in this book- and none of Claire at all. Which, like a previous reviewer said, means no outfit descriptions and clever comebacks.
Most of this book was from the point of Dylan and Kristen, both of whom Massie was extremely mean to (especially Kristen).I was doubting that the book would be any good, because the two seemed like 2D characters in the past nine books. I still think they are cardboard cutouts, just like Massie with a few adjustments. So the (new) main characters are pretty shallow. It's a teen novel about rich middle schoolers, but it could still use some thought.
And of course, there were some really annoying things in the book. She kept ruh-iting like this in middle of the novel, using words like "nawt" and annoying acronyms (besides LBR and BFF- those are permissible) when it's not in dialogue. She overuses similes, and there are some things in the book that would never happen in a real school (like a cheerleading chant that "we gotta look hawt for the fellas").
The main reason I liked this installment is that the conclusion was actually different than "And they all made up and lived happily ever after" or some paper-thin cliffhanger that's sure to be solved in the next book's first twenty pages. Given that it's not the latter, Massie might change in a non-controlling person and finally let loose and stop trying to impress people all of time. All in all, three and a half stars.』
(LOL) 『This overly-dramatic preteen read is so cute and is one of those too-cute books that you never get tired of reading OVER and OVER again!! Just make sure you've read the previous books in the CLique series, otherwise, this one probably won't make any sense to you. This book is witty and funny. The clique books are my favorite to read when I'm having one of those grumpy days because they make me laugh!』
(One Word: Drama!) 『Reviewed by McKenzie Tritt (age 15) for Reader Views (6/09)
Meet the Pretty Committee, Briarwood-Octavian Country Day's most exclusive clique, also known as the OCDivas. The group consists of five BFFs: Massie Block, the group leader, Kristen Gregory, the smart and athletic one, Dylan Marvil, the funny and tomboyish one, Alicia Rivera, the second-in-command, and Claire Lyons, the down to earth one.
After a short-standing boy-fast, it seems everyone at BOCD has a crush. Massie is crushing on Dempsey after recently getting over Derrington, although she still has claim to him. It seems, however, that Massie has some competition. This competition is none other than Layne Abeley, an LBR who just happens to be one of Dempsey's LBR best friends. In order to gain Dempsey's love, Massie starts BOCD's first ever cheerleading squad. Along the way, though, there is plenty of Pretty Committee trouble, including someone vying for alpha status.
Kristen cannot wait for Dune, her crush to return from surfing. But when he does, she is not sure if he the one for her. Plus, she has to deal with Massie and her secret LBR best friend, Layne, both crushing on Dempsey. Who will she help? Claire, on the other hand, has a steady boyfriend. She just needs to help Massie keep the PC intact, which is not an easy job. Alicia is happy with Josh, but not with her beta status. Will she accept her position or try to work her way to the top? Finally, there is Dylan. She has got a rather large secret: she's crushing on Derrington, although Massie still has claim on him. Plus, it's pretty obvious that he has a thing for tomboys.
"P.S. I Loathe You" is similar to the likes of "Gossip Girl" and "The A-List." It doesn't contain nearly as much cussing or sexual activity - there's very little, actually. This book obviously isn't a timeless work of literature, but it's a fun read just the same. As a fan of "The Clique" series I was excited for another installment. It's a great beach or weekend read. Don't expect much depth; you won't find it. There are, however, a couple of good life lessons if you look closely enough. I would recommend this to anyone who loves "rich girl" books, but wants a toned down version. If you're looking for a guilty pleasure, full of name-dropping, clothes, and boys, "P.S. I Loathe You" by Lisi Harrison is the book for you.』
(Doesn't anyone have a brain anymore?) 『This is the best book of the series, by far. I think lisi really embraced the characters for who they were, and opened up the clique series to the real world that her characters are part of (the setting of which is in westchester county new york, where I live close to and go to school with people just like these girls)- that a group of friends worshipping its leader to make her happy despite what makes them happy can NOT last forever, that cliques and unhealthy relationships like this change, that everyone wants something real in their lives to hold onto while having their fantasies as well.
I like that Kristen is given substance, she hasn't been more than a 2D character and mindless follower from the start, and it shows that she is human with *desires and interests*. imagine that! Who knew that she'd be a cat-lover? How full-hearted she really is while struggling to fit in with a world that requires a suppression of it? I love Dylan's struggle and tie-in with Derrick, because it was a question I'd had once Massie and Derrick started dating- what about Dylan and Kristen, who both really liked him? How do they feel about that? How could she do that to them without even asking? Then the answer came: Because she's Massie Block. It makes Dylan so much more real, and makes the series more whole.
I enjoyed the lack of focus on Claire, as she'd had a lot of spotlight in all the others save BF@T's and we've discovered most of all there is to know about Claire's character.
I like Alicia's constant struggle with herself as being the first of the girls to really have realized that she needs to compromise herself to be happy with Massie, and how it manifests here.
Most of all, I like Massie. I think that people are saying that Massie just becomes extraordinarily mean here, but really, Massie was this way all along. The only reason why she looks so much more mean now is because the story is told largely from Dylan and Kristen's point of view, who were, before this novel, taking the backseat in the story and were faceless and somewhat empty characters other than Massie's loyal fem-servants, and the story was not told by the point of view of people who are either wholly vying for her approval or striving to destroy her, but were struggling in between, as Dylan and Kristen had ALWAYS been. I like the honesty that Lisi captured with Massie's character, that girls like Massie, while of course being multi-layered, do ultimately want friends who are willing to let her have claim to what she wants, and be happy with doing so, and, even when coming to the realization that she could KEEP her friends if she gave them a little leeway, she didn't value them enough as people and more valued them as pawns to her popularity to give them enough freedom to keep them, as made evident with her ease at which she dumped and took back friends throughout the series. I liked the line where Massie says/thinks that she wasn't going to sacrifice her standards to be happy- 'my friends had done nothing but that but look how happy it made *them*', and decides to hold on to her standards. It makes her so damn real that it gave me goosebumps.
I'm happy that upon reading this book I've been able to respect Lisi Harrison's angle in writing these stories, the goal that she herself stated that she was writing these for- to shed truth and light upon a subject that absolutely everyone ever in a school or work system has experience with, and respsect Lisi as a real, laudable author.
Any fan of the clique series as a whole who was disappointed in this book is not a lover of good writing or reading, has missed the entire point of the books and the characters, and is upset over their broken illusions with the part of them- the part of everyone- that wants to be Massie Block. *****/*****.』 『Massie Block: When the Pretty Committee deems its boy-fast null and void, boy fever sweeps through BOCD. What better way to backhandspring into new crush Dempsey's heart-and make old crush Derrington jealous-than cheer for him on the soccer field? And just like that, Massie forms BOCD's first-ever cheerleading squad. But will Massie still have something to cheer about when Dempsey starts spending ah lot of time with LBR Layne Abeley? Give me an "E" for Ehmagawd!
Kristen Gregory: With Massie and her SBFF (secret best friend forever) Layne vying for the same boy, Kristen has to make a choice: A) the Pretty Committee, or B) the Witty Committee. And if she doesn't choose fast, she'll end up C) Committeeless.
Dylan Marvil: Is hiding something, and it's not just those peanut butter Luna bars stashed under her mattress. She's got a secret crush on Derrington-and it's no secret that he likes burpilicious redheads. . . .
Alicia Rivera: Prefers pliés to pom-poms, especially when Massie orders her to the bottom of the cheer-pyramid. Can Alicia accept her beta status, or is it time to become alpha of her own squad?
Claire Lyons: Now that she's back with Cam, Claire finally has her love life in order. But her friends are trading crushes like styling tips. Will the Pretty Committee survive the boy-swap intact, or is the Clique about to come apart at the seams?』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A must read for all Christian couples) 『Wow! This book is outstanding. It provide readers with the best of secular knowledge, evaluated through the lens of Scripture. It dominates all of the other available Christian titles. Everyday topics such as concrete suggestions for improving communication are covered, as are more major concerns such as various sexual dysfunctions.
The book is notable in that it provides a seamless interweaving of Scripture and detailed practical application material. Only an author with a background like Dr. Rosenau's - graduate Bible training from a respected evangelical seminary, a Ph.D. in sex therapy from a secular university, and years of counseling experience - could have written this book. I can't imagine a couple who wouldn't benefit from reading it. The first chapter on God's perspective on sexuality, alone, is worth the price of the book.

(a MUST-READ volume for Couples!) 『This book is COMPREHENSIVE! I think nearly any situation a couple is interested in is covered. Wish my wife and I would've been given this book when we were first married ...of course it wasn't written back then!
