customer 's review (What a disappointment !!!) Before I bought the Nexus Gadgets Dominoes, I was very impressed by the box and the domino pieces. It looked like a classic piece on the website. I had been searching for a good set of dominoes for a few weeks. But I was completely disappointed. When I received the product, the wooden box was broken. Secondly, there were many visible scratches on each of the domino pieces. It was another low quality Made in China product. I contacted the vendor (Nexus Gadgets) through the Amazon.com e-mail system, but I did not get any response. Eventually, I requested for a refund from Amazon. So my search for a good set of dominoes goes on. Perfect gift on any occasion.

Chess is a recreational and competitive game played between two players. Sometimes called Western chess or international chess to distinguish it from its predecessors and other chess variants, the current form of the game emerged in Southern Europe during the second half of the 15th century after evolving from similar, much older games of Indian and Persian origin. Today, chess is one of the world's most popular games, played by millions of people worldwide in clubs, online, by correspondence, in tournaments and informally.

(fun challenge but cramped)
(It'll be hard to go back...) The Nikoli books are really the best Sudoku books out there. They select puzzles which can be solved using logic rather than the really esoteric methods you can find out about on Sudoku web pages like X Wing and Swordfish. This tends to make them more fun because they are hard yet with enough effort can be solved. They also have a brief but helpful section with some strategy. How many books have you bought which are half worthless because you don't enjoy working the simple puzzles any longer? Well, these books are specifically made with only the tougher puzzles so you get more fun for your money. Otherwise the criticisms are true: it's a small book, which can be good since it takes up little space yet bad because you'll have trouble opening it very wide to write in since it's small and fat. If only they made it in a spiral format I'd give it 5 stars. It probably has few reviews because they aren't sold everywhere but they 're worth the effort to find and certainly worth purchasing. Printed on good paper, too, in case you need to erase or make pencil marks in the boxes. It delivers the challenge; it's overall about a 9 out of 10 on difficulty.
The publisher has a real ego about its superiority based on owning the trademark on publishing sudoku in japan at least. I don't personaly agree that the radially symetrical arrangement is better, funner, more pleasing. I want the challenge, and radial symmetry produces similarities on one side as the other, so I can reapply patterns I learned on one side to the other. I personally prefer a more random based design. It doesnt impede my enjoyment, but I don't share their values either.
My main criticism of the book is its small size and dense binding. it makes for a very compact and portable book, considering it has like 300 (or was it more?) puzzles. The downside to this is that, while I'm right handed, it's easier to do the odd pages than the even pages because my hand bumps into the opposite page and the spine. I imagine that by the time I've gotten halfway through it, it'll look like a fanned out book dropped in the bathtub or something, though the spine appears strong enough to avoid this. Space in the margins is also more limited for checklists or other user notes compared to what I'm used to in larger format books. I think that a book this small should be spiral bound for ease of use.
Great for a bedside book, but not perfectly ideal for an all-around sudoku companion book. ...to computer generated sudoku after you start playing these. I don't know what it is, but somehow, these handcrafted puzzles don't only look so much cooler, they're actually funner!
The book comes with two levels of challenge - creatively titled "Difficult" and "Very Difficult." Even though I'm relatively new to these puzzles, I'd posit that the former really should be called "Moderate," using the standardly accepted levels of difficulty. My only gripe with the book is that I wish the page's measurements were bigger, but that's personal preference.
Nonetheless, this is a great buy with 320 puzzles, and it'll likely last you a long time! The next step, like having a whole book of just SaturdayTimescrossword puzzles. Even more fiendish, even more fun,X-treme Sudokuproudly presents 320 puzzles rated "Difficult" to "Very Difficult." These are the toughest, knottiest, most demanding Sudoku out there—prepare to have your brain cells crackle, your pencils melt, your mind obsessed with numbers and squares.
No one is better than Nikoli at rounding up such a collection. A Japanese puzzle and game company that started the Sudoku craze over twenty years ago, Nikoli is known for creating the only handcrafted puzzles around. As Tim Preston, publishing director of Puzzler Media, Britain's biggest seller of crossword and cryptogram puzzles, has said: "It is a matter of great pride to get your puzzle into one of Nikoli's magazines. Handmade puzzles are much better. . . . It gives you the satisfaction that you are pitting your wits against an individual who has thought about what your next step would be and has tried to obscure the path."
ForX-treme Sudoku, the puzzle-makers at Nikoli went out of their way to obscure the path. There are puzzles with entire boxes empty. Puzzles with whole rows left blank. Puzzles that form mysteriously beautiful symmetries, but demand a calculating logic to solve.
For the X-treme solver, paradise. Rerations < X-Treme Sudoku >

("Thinking Inside the Box - No Math Needed")
First of all,let me make one thing very clear.I am a big admirer of The Sterling Publishing Company. There is no equal to them in the number and high quality of books that they publish on puzzles.Check some of my other reviews on puzzle books and you'll find I've heaped praise on them for their efforts and accomplishments. However; everyone can have a 'bad hair' day. The whole Sudoku scene took off here in May of 2005,in a little 'freebie' newspaper in boxes at transit stops.Over the next couple of months books started to appear in the bookstores. I've written reviews on several of them and discuss what one should look for in a good one.First, there should be good coverage on the background of the puzzle, then good instructions on hints and methods for solving;particularly if one is just gettind started. Then the size of the grid should be at least 3"X3",preferably larger.By the way, The Toronto Star has just increased their grid from 31/2" to 5".Next,the paper should be much better than newsprint grade for ease of erasing. The puzzles should be graded in difficulty. One book I reviewed even gave completion times depending on skills.Another thing to consider is how flat the book lies as well as its size, particularly if you intend to carry it around. Finally ,there is the number of puzzles and the price. Now what about this book.Competing books are flooding the shelves. If this book had come our in August or so ,it might not have been too bad. However,it has almost nothing in background or solving methods. The pages are too large, with 4 puzzles per page, and at this stage ,they're on the small size at 3".The puzzles are not graded and there are no time targets. The paper is not too bad, roughly typewriter bond grade. At 8"X10" it is too large to carry around and doesn't lay flat. A couple of months ago books were coming out with 100-300 puzzles;last week I bought one with 1001 puzzles. So,about the only thing this book is 'with it' is that it has 944 puzzles. In summary, this book is late arriving on the scene, nothing exceptional about it,several shortcomings and priced up there with others I would recommend over it. Once again,I would reiterate that Sterling have published high quality puzzle books;and maybe Sudoku is just not their world. It's not that I don't think they couldn't do better ;it's just that they didn't. The Big Book of Sudoku Puzzles," Michael Rios, NY, Sterling Publishing, 2005 ISBN: 1-4027-3631-2, PC 320 pgs., (80 pgs. answers), 10" x 8"
Unknown 20 years ago, Sudoku ("single numbers") skyrocketed since 1984 as Nikoli Publishers (Japan) formalized rules for a 3 x 3 number grid composed of 9 boxes @ using 0-9 numerals but once within @ box&numerals 0-9 but once criss-crossing the grid. The 30 conferred numbers (varies 24-32) determines difficulty of finding&entering those 51 or so (49-57) which are absent. Not always conspicious, supplied numbers inscribe a symmetrical design.
"The Big Book...." consists of 944 puzzles, begins "easy"&progresses to "harder." The format of 4 (four) puzzles per page, each measuring 3" x 3" makes analyses, pencil entries&erasures (if needed) quite easy - and with practice, simple logic, (no math needed) insight develops to spot patterns&formations yielding clues to missing numerals (all answers in back of book). At inception, there is temptation to fill empty squares with every feasibility, - time consuming. In short order, identification of patterns leads to explicit techniques where speed evolves¬ations are few. In high order Sudoku, one of several chosen possibilities which, as puzzle becomes more complete, may prove to be incorrect, thus designating the alternative to be genuine. The sole equipment needed is a lead pencil&eraser plus an inquisitive mind which tunes in logic stations. In you are browsing for challenging experiences in mathematics, this is not that book. However, it is a good, non-pornographic mind memory book that'll help ward off Alzheimer's&is warranted compatible with all iPods. Of many books on Sudoku, this is my favorite.
