Sudoku is the biggest craze to strike puzzle fans in years: SUDOKU! Sudoku means "single number" in Japanese. It is not a game of mathematics, but of logic. Sudoku is an 81-square grid, broken into nine blocks of nine squares. The goal is to fill each square with a number so that each column, each row, and each three-by-three grid of nine squares contains the numbers one to nine. No column, row, or grid can have two of the same number.Includes: 1 main joystick unit, 1 additional joystick and 1 Gun

(Highly recommend)
(A great gift!) I just started working Sudoku puzzles. Using this handheld instead of a book makes the solving so much faster and easier! Great size, very portable,I can take it everywhere.
I recently received for a present the wooden board with a drawer. That is excellent too. I would not purchase this product. The screen glares so much that I can not use it many times without straining my eyes. Paper books are much better. The batteries also wear out very quickly. And when you change them you lose what game you are on. Cheapest medicine while enjoyable...enlightens the way we analyze by doind and plkaying the sudoku game I gave this as a gift to a very good friend of mine. She loves it! I got this for a gift for my husband who does these puzzles every day. It is so convenient being portable. He can use it at home and also on trips. He loves it! (And it's fun too!!)
(Bought this toy for my 21 y/o son for Christmas!)
(Dr. Rubik taught me how to play Sudoku) Rubik's Sudoku is well thought out and makes it possible for people who feel they are number or math-challenged to enjoy a measure of mastery and accomplishment through this game. The addition of color patterns provides an important 3rd dimension to Sudoku. A storage drawer in the base keeps the instructions and spare parts from being scattered. The swing-open clear plastic lid provides a space to organize the tiles before you have figured out where they go in each game. The tiles have a tab that inserts into a slot to keep them firmly in place, yet easy to move when you discover you weren't thinking clearly. And it is addictive! I love that my friends at work and I can all work on the same puzzle at once. I work in a dispatch center and a lot of the time it is all hurry up and wait, and wait and wait... With this we are able to put the game away and still not lose your spot. There could be more of the little markers, as if your working on a puzzle with more then 5 choices where to put a number there are not enough, but other then that the colors make the puzzles fun to do. I bought this for my son for Christmas because he likes both games. I haven't played it myself; however he was playing it with his girlfriend and his siblings and they seem to enjoy it. I haven't heard any complaints at all - heard quite a few "Cool!" 's though. I thought the game looked kinda neat and quite fun to play. I have been wanted a non-electronic non-paper Sudoku game for some time. Rubik's Sudoku is a self contained single player game board. I can move it from room to room without the playing pieces moving from where I have placed them on the board. There is one extra piece for each number/color tile included. With the color coding it is easy to learn the strategy behind Sudoku. I was not picking it up very fast when I tried the paper versions. After I progress through the 100 puzzles included with this game I'll use the game board and pieces with the Sudoku magazine I have. For the cost I would recommend this over the more expensive wood versions. If cost is not an issue then you might go for one of the more durable all wood versions that Amazon has. Sudoku's popularity is quickly catching up with crossword puzzles. In this Rubik's version, there is no need for erasing, crossing out or ripped pages. Movable pieces are cleverly styled. Contains 81 number/color pieces, board/storage tray, 100 puzzles/solutions and instructions. For one player. Rerations < Rubik's Sudoku >

customer 's review (Versatile, adaptable, value)
(Good Pastime - Backlight Useful)
(hand held sudoku)
(Love it!)
(Love it!) This product delivers as advertised. Four levels of difficulty with beginner mode providing instant feedback. I tested the insert-a-puzzle mode and the system correctly created the solution. Limited instructions accompany the game, but getting started was easy. I bought this as a gift for my 8 year old grandson and am pleased with the product's adjustable screen setting and durability. I bought this game several years ago. Its useful if you like Sudoku and need to kill some time. I find that the numbers are easy to see if you're using the unit indoors, and also using the backlight. Of course, I bought this two years ago when I turned 40, so to help out a little I also use reading glasses when I'm doing the puzzle.
When you add it all up, its a fun way to play Sudoku without having to screw around with writing little numbers in boxes, then constantly erasing them as you rule things out. I mean that's okay at the beach, but who wants eraser debris on your bed if you're solving the puzzles at night?
All in all, I can give a strong recommendation for indoor - especially nighttime use. I bought this for my husband who does the newspaper puzzles every day. He loves carries this to work and does this at lunch hour and tries to beat his previous score. Perfect little toy and good for your brain too! Small enough to go in your purse. I love the feature that enables you to input Sudoku Puzzle found in magazine and newspapers. I bought this for a friend. She loves it. She was given a different one last Christmas and hated it because it didn't have a stylist. It makes all the difference. I did alot of research before I bought this and found this the best for the price. I received one for Christmas myself and I can't put it down. I love the fact that you can input games into it also. It is super for the price. Alot of people seem to have a problem with being able to see the screen. Change the contrast it really helps. I had a problem with the screen at first until I ajusted the contrast. I haven't been able to put it down since.
Using touch-screen technology, this handheld LCD game features the fun, challenging and very addictive puzzle Sodoku. The rules are simple - just fill in the grid so that every row, column and 3 X 3 box contains the digits 1 through 9. It's mind-challenging fun that you can play anywhere. Comes with over 100,000 puzzles and includes an extra stylus. Rerations < Illuminated Touch Screen Sudoku Puzzle Game >

(AWESOME!!)
(Sudoku lover!) Though I tend to agree with other reviewers about the editing (as in, some puzzles seem out of place as to difficulty), overall, this book offers a lot of puzzles for little money. I also like the fact that the paper doesn't fall apart with one erasure, as happens with many sudoku magazines and books that are printed on pulp paper. If you like to do sudoku at pretty much any level, this book has got lots of rainy days tucked away for you. Each page contains 2 puzzles - No Problem
Each puzzle is small and surrounded by a huge border.
Very Poor Format
I am a Sudoku addict. This book has soooo many puzzles to keep you busy. Varying levels of skill needed. Book opens so you can easily fill in your answers, not writing in the fold. This is a great Sudoku book. I was impressed with the delivery time as it came before the estimated delivery date and before the holidays so I could give it to my mother-in-law as part of her Christmas gift. I was also impressed with the size! It is amazing. If you're looking for something to do and have it last a while, this book is for you!! I've ordered this book three times - you can keep doing the same puzzles over and over because you'll never remember the solutions! 1001 Sudokuis a simple book thats filled with fantastic puzzles. There are enough superb sudoku in this handsome volume to keep even the biggest puzzle fan busy for months if not years!Sudoku is the puzzle craze that took the world by storm in 2005. From humble beginnings as a daily puzzle in a British newspaper, the number placement logic puzzle has become a publishing sensation, hitting best-seller lists all over the world. The simple-to-learn but difficult-to-master nature of the puzzle is such that people of all ages, all abilities, and all walks of life can enjoy it. 1001 Sudokuis the ultimate sudoku book, giving enough top-quality puzzles for even the most devoted fan, but suitable for those who want to get into the craze but might feel intimidated by numbers. Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's review (O'Ekaki Heaven) This, like his other books, is wonderfull. It is well edited, solvable, and fun to do, like all of his other books! Like Sudoku, O'Ekaki provides an entertaining test of one's logic, using a grid of boxes as its playing field. But rather than leaving the player with nothing more than a bunch of numbers, O'Ekaki ends with a flourish: an interesting piece of art that evolves as boxes are darkened until the puzzle is successfully completed. It's a puzzle that utilizes both sides of a person's brain! And each puzzle's title is an amusing clue to the picture that will finally emerge.
Simple instructions are included at the front of the book to get one started along with some useful tips. The puzzles challenge on several levels, from one pencil--beginner--to five pencils--expert--all resulting in a sometimes quite elaborate picture. Many of the O'Ekaki puzzles inO'Ekaki Heavenhave a spiritual theme to their outcomes. Still, don't be fooled; some of the more difficult puzzles can be downright devilish! (Lots of Puzzles!)
(Excellent) I just received a copy to give as a gift. The cover no longer says "Mammoth." I hope it's still the same book everyone else has reviewed!
I may adjust the rating at a later time depending on how much my wife likes it, but suffice to say the title change causes me concern. I bought this book for and gave it as a gift to someone in a different state. I never saw the book; however, that person was grateful for the number and varying difficulty of the assorted puzzles. I loved the suduku book. It contained puzzles in there that were new that I have never seen before. It had detailed instructions for the newer puzzles even the older puzzles, so if you were new to the puzzles you would know exactly what to do. I would highly recommend this to someone else. This will keep you busy for weeks if not months. Nice Collection of Sudoku puzzles. This book is so good, even my 7 year od daugther learned how to play this game. Here's the biggest and most exciting book of sudoku puzzles ever compiled. (The Kakuro breaks all the rules)
(do not waste your money on this game)
(Disappointing)
(Very disappointed!!) One honestly has to wonder if the makers of this game have ever played sudoku. The game doesn't allow you to make small notations, just fill in the answers. The small notations solve the puzzles! Ridiculous. I purchased this game for the Kakuro part, since there are several other available Sudoku games. The puzzles don't follow the rules of Kakuro, so it's virtually unplayable. There should never be a point where you can only get the answer by sheer guessing; you should always be able to work out the number given all of the other clues. You might have to temporarily guess but by following that path you should be able to verify or disprove your guess.
The interface is, um, unique, but it is useable. I wouldn't have given it one star for that. It lets you operate with the buttons rather than the stylus and it takes a bit of getting used to. it is the most boring, non-user friendly game i have ever played! Don't waste your money As other reviewers have noted, this is a very disappointing version of Sudoku. In addition to their complaints, I would state that I get the same board offered multiple times (both Sudoku and Kakuro). I don't know if this is because I haven't met some minimum time? Speed is inhibited by the navigation of the game (at least it does let you wrap around from the top of the screen to the bottom, etc.). One thing I do like about the game is that, being new to Kakuro and not very quick with math, the game tells you when your math does not add up. When I get more proficient with Kakuro, this may become a "leave me alone, darnit" feature, as it is currently on the Sudoku side of the game. Brain Age's version is soooo much better - can't those folks just put out an independent Sudoku? I don't want to repeat what the other reviewers said, but they are absolutely right. I was really disappointed in this game and, like the others, wish that I had waited for the reviews.
Why any of these developers can't come up with a Sudoko and/or a Kakuro game with a similar interface to Brain Age is beyond me.
The worst part is that the game board is on the non-touch screen and moving around is extremely cumbersome. Whoops!! I'm repeating what the other reviews said -- sorry!! THQ(2008-11-17)
Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's review (Merv Griffin's Goodbye) It is hard to believe that we've seen classic game shows really start to dominate for the Nintendo Wii. Recently, classic shows like The Price Is Right, and nighttime favorites like Deal Or No Deal and Jeff Foxworthy delivering his wit and Redneck humor with Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? make their way to the P.C., as Deal or No Deal is set to make its way to the Wii. But, with longevity in game shows as video games, no creator has done it better than the late great Merv Griffin. It has been over a year since Griffin had passed away, but his quirky quiz shows, Jeopardy! and Wheel Of Fortune have not only dominated on television, but as computer games have been the cornerstone of quiz show success for systems everywhere. But, Griffin's last game show creation has finally made it to the Wii. But, is this a good buy, or just something that misses the mark in price and value.
Merv Griffin's Crosswords, the final game show that Griffin developed is finally available for the Nintendo Wii. The show which sadly was cancelled last year due to poor ratings, is given a second chance as a video game. The game features ex-soap actor and former host Ty Treadyway, as he hosts the game show that tests you mind that is loosely based on everyday crossword puzzles. There are over 1,000 differnt questions that test your mind, from the show. The question range from easy to hard by ironically as days of the week: Monday for easy, tuesday for intermediate, and Sunday for Advanced. The graphics look simple, but the gameplay can be very challenging at times. There aren't many modes to play here, but basic modes like timed play, free play, and getaways mode, which is like unlocking places around the world, but lacks the feeling of play. While you can play against others at home, I was really hoping there would be a bit more challenge with battling against others online, but that is just wishful thinking. While the price of the game is also inexpensive, the mental challenge for solo play can be addictive at first, but lacks the feeling of enjoyment later on in fun, while the control is just simple click and play.
All in all, I was really hoping that there could've been more to breathe life into Merv Griffin's Crosswords for the Nintendo Wii. But, it is interesting to see Merv's last show that could've been great, if it was paired up in the block that Jeopardy!&Wheel Of Fortune have delivered well on television today. If you were a die hard fan of the show, or are just a hard core fan of crossword puzzles, than this would be a great buy for $20 for your Wii library.

(Do you Sudoku? Call on Carol!)
(Sudoku On The Mind)
(A very plain sudoku game) I did my homework on Sudoku video games, selected Carol Vorderman's Sudoku, and I'm totally pleased with my choice. Movement around the grid is easy. Game levels are numerous. I'm hooked. Carol Vorderman, an amiable UK television personality, introduces us to the game of Sudoku with step-by-step video tutorials that are easy to understand, and she even shows a sample puzzle from start to finish. As the player increases their skill, additional tutorials from Carol can provide advanced gameplay tips.
There are tools to assist as the player gets their feet wet: The "Assists" mode can set up pencil marks, inform the player if any Sudoku rules have been broken, and it will even point out errors as the player progresses.
While doing the puzzles, the player has the option to listen to some music. It's the same loop of "Sudoku Elevator Muzak" repeated ad infinitum and there's no other choice...it's either Muzak or silence.
For some odd reason, the career mode of gameplay is in a martial arts ranking system. As the player progresses, a black belt can be earned, and Carol's expertise can be challenged in advanced gameplay modes.
There are co-operative modes, but since the game of Sudoku is usually a solo activity, the average gamer will probably never use these.
The description of the PSP button control is curiously incomplete both in the game instructions and the boxed instructions, but with a little trial and errror, one can figure out how to use the interface. The instruction manual gives a "print&play" option on the main menu, but this is not in the game anywhere. The "Sudoku Solver" option suggests that Carol can help to solve any Sudoku puzzle, but when this is selected, it opens up a blank Sudoku grid where numbers can be randomly entered and an optional puzzle solution can be chosen. This looks like a feature that never got completed.
So what's the final verdict?
It's pretty clear that Carol Vorderman cashed in on having her face and name appear on the cover of the box, the instruction manual, and the game menus. Her visage and voice are an enjoyable introduction to the world of Sudoku - most other PSP Sudoku games are very bland and offer little to no assistance in learning basic or advanced tactics.
Some other reviewers have commented that this is not a choice for die hard Sudoku players, and I tend to agree. The incomplete&misleading instructions also diminish the final product.
However, if you have a PSP and you're looking to understand what's all the rave about Sudoku, this is a great way to get hooked. For the past few years, puzzle games have became all the range. Thanks to the thrill of video games like Brain Age for the Nintendo DS, many gamers have decided to step away from the action and sports titles, to something more into the mind. That has happened with Sudoku. The simple game has definitely brought so many gamers into a challenging filed of 9x9 puzzling action. Yet, even though the Nintendo DS has had some great titles, but the Sony PSP has yet to have a definitive title that can be just as great in the puzzle match. Maybe, U.K. Sudoku master Carol Voderman could help in this new game.
Carol Voderman's Sudoku for the Sony PSP, is a game that tries to test your mind and hands at the most challenging number game, Sudoku. In this game, nothing is changed that seperates itself from other sudoku titles. The game seperates itself more visually, as Carol gives you a detailed instruction on how to play the game, and the opportunity to go head to head with her. There are numerous puzzles here that challenge you as you try to play each number from 1 to 9 in a 3x3 box and in horizontal and vertical lines that are across and vertical. The graphics work very nicely, and handle well with the PSP. Unfortunately, the gameplay is good for new Su Doku gamers, but for die hard puzzlers, they might feel this game is not as challenging as other ones like Go Su Doku were. The control is basic, adn easy to operate through each of the puzzles, but leaves a dent for some puzzle fans.
All in all, Carol Voderman's Sudoku isn't a bad title, but could've left a lot more to have been desired for multiplayer action. Still, if you haven't played Sudoku yet and own a PSP, than this is the game for you. Otherwise, you might want to try something else that is less puzzling.

Overall: C 1/2+ In case you didn't know, the attractively clad woman on the cover is Carol Vorderman, a 50-year-old quiz gameshow host in the U.K. She's written a book or two on the game of sudoku, so now she "hosts" this game.
This is really a very simple and plain electronic sudoku game. The controls are pretty easy to figure out (I rented my copy). There are a few categories of gameplay; for single player mode they are: classic for quick solo playing; arcade for timed playing; career for earning the title "master of sudoku" (it's just progressive play); and "challenge Carol" for timed difficult puzzles. There is a multi-player mode; I didn't try that because nobody else has this game.
You also get a few half-baked video instructions, tips and tutorials; they really suck.
As a sudoku fan I found most of the games a little too easy. But what really sucks about this game is it's really plain and no fun at all for anyone who's not into sudoku. I mean, they could have made it a bit more interesting. Twenty bucks for a boring game like this is really a waste of money.
So, unless you are crazy about sudoku, you'll do better staying away from this game. If you like sudoku, this should have enough puzzles to keep you busy for a while -- although you'd probably have more fun with sudoku games for the Nintendo DS. Carol Vorderman's Sudoku brings together one of the most popular puzzle games with one of TV's most recognizable faces.
