Have not used this one yet, but I can tell you what I did with the train one. I decorated each part for the likes of a specific person at a birthday party. They had a great time looking at each person's train car. Plan to do the same with the cars.

(cake) 『These cakes are great for a themed party or just for fun. You can make cute muffins as well. You do have to ensure the cake is VERY cool before trying to remove from the pan if you want them to come out. I have not made the recipe on the package, but I have used the pan a couple times with other recipes I have. I do know that most boxed cake mixes are too fragile and "wet." You need to modify the mix. If you are not into decorating, you can make a sugar glaze to go over top. Downside: requires storage space unless you do a lot of creative baking. Note: The cake details are not as clear with chocolate cake. I made an old fashioned chocolate cake in them, and found I needed to do more decorating with icing to really bring out the fun details. Recipe note: I have used the recipe for both the train cake pan NordicWare Platinum Collection Train Pan and the snowman cake pan Nordicware 55448 Snowman Pan and both are very good (especially the snowman, if not labor intensive).』

They are heavy paper board and seem to maintain the consistency of the ice cream perfectly. I always had to top the ice cream with plastic wrap to prevent ice crystals from forming on top when using plastic containers, and I don't have to do that with these.
The designs are attractive and present well when giving friends and family homemade ice creams in their favorite flavors.

(Product Fills a Huge Void in the Marketplace) 『Why is it impossible to find paperboard containers for storing homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt?! I spent several hours searching the internet and reading blogs by many, many people lamenting the fact that no one produces these containers and sells them in reasonable quantities. Apparently, no one had navigated to Amazon!
The Sweet Bliss containers definitely fill a hole in the marketplace. If you are an individual who occasionally makes homemade ice cream, it is not economical to have to buy plain white containers by the case, which usually means buying 500+ containers and buying the lids separately (which, by the way, are generally NOT sold in the same quantities as the containers, so for a minimum order of a few hundred dollars, you end up with 500 containers and maybe 1200 lids). That is where this container comes in! It is a perfect quart-size for homemade treats and has a very well designed lid to both prevent condensation inside of the package and prevent freezer burn. I had previously been using either tupperware (which causes condensation) or directly vented take-out soup containers (which cause freezer burn).
The package size is appropriate and the cost per carton of approximately $1 is affordable since they will help the ice cream keep longer. The cartons are well constructed and very uniform. The two patterns available are both nice. I would like to be able to get plain white containers that are the exact same construction as these for ice cream that I am just storing for myself. I would like to see a "mixed pattern" option available so you can get both patterns in the 25-count package. It would make for a nice variety and help differentiate between the flavors, like fruity flavors in the pink and other flavors in the wooden barrels.
The entry areas on the lids are a nice touch, but I found it difficult to read some of the written names on the containers easily because the pattern did somewhat interfere with the writing area on the wooden barrel pattern. I used a ball point pen and then switched to a thin sharpie, but I still couldn't just look down into the freezer and read the labels. I had to actually pick up the ice cream and tilt the container to be able to read the flavor. It would also be great to be able to get these in a 2 quart size, although 2 quart recipes are easily broken down into 2 containers.

So I bought the download of "Oh, Lady Be Good" and then listened to it in iTunes- from the very first second, I could plainly hear the surface noise that old vinyl records have- scratches and pops. There is none of this noise in the samples-they must have a denoiser for sample playback, which to me is an underhanded trick to be pulling-the samples should sound exactly like the download version you order on the same page. Even the instrument's tone is weak and thin compared to the sample.Shame on Amazon!』

The Essential Artie Shaw is a relentless, high-octane collection of the Big Band period's most complex and improvisational jazz and swing. After repeated listening the overall impression that emerges is music that moves far beyond words - completely capturing the mood of America during epic conflict - restiveness, resolve, hope and genuine sentiment. A political science graduate course in 4/4 time. Astounding and wonderful.
Unlike some of his contemporaries, Shaw was an obsessive perfectionist who insisted on micro-managing the arrangements for almost all of his prolific output - often going through tantrums of scorched earth - hiring and replacing legions of band members who couldn't get it right. Whatever the human toll, the arrangements and definition are air-tight and beyond brilliant given the technological limitations of the day.
Personally, Shaw played the tortured hedonist to full effect - running through eight wives, gallons of scotch and a tobacconists share of Lucky's that would have given any Rap artist pause. And just for maximum shock-value, quit the business entirely at the peak of his popularity in 1954 to write novels and poetry - foregoing millions in bookings and recording contracts.
Fortunately for us, what he left behind is a dazzling legacy of clarinet-infused be-bop that has been painstakingly re-mastered and choreographed on this double-cd Essentials collection.
Artie Shaw was certainly an artist before his time and if he were around today might feel right at home reincarnated as Soulja Shaw or Notorious A.R.T. Whatever the result from that collision of styles, it would have only confirmed that maybe, just maybe, your parents were much cooler than you ever gave them credit for.

(genius--and at a bargain basement price, too !!!) 『The Essential Artie Shaw is a wonderful two CD set of the music that made Artie Shaw one of the very best big band leaders the world has even known. This music is very special even today and it's a great way for people to discover the infinite talents of Artie&His Orchestra. The quality of the sound is very good; and the artwork impresses me.
"Begin the Beguine" starts off the first CD with a huge hit for Artie Shaw&His Orchestra. I love it! The brass sounds great in this musical arrangement; and listens for "Deep Purple." "Deep Purple" features the great Helen Forrest singing her heart out as Artie and his band mates play flawlessly. Helen's voice never sounded better and her excellent diction bolstered her performances very well. "Oh! Lady Be Good" is yet another number that only Artie Shaw&His Orchestra could play so well--they were THAT good.
"Georgia On My Mind" has a somewhat jazzy arrangement that, mixed with the big band sound, really makes this number fly. "Any Old Time" and "April In Paris" shine just as brightly, too. "Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise" was a huge hit for Artie Shaw; and just one listen will tell you why. "Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise" is a major highlight of the first CD. "Blues in the Night" sounds great; and when Oran "Hot Lips" Page joins in to sing the lyrics it sounds even better than any instrumental version I've veer heard.
The second CD continues the hits. "Frenesi" was another major hit for Artie Shaw&His Orchestra; I always liked this tune. "Take Your Shoes Off, Baby (And Start Runnin' Through My Mind)" again features Oran "Hot Lips" Page; and it all works very well. "Indian Love Call" was a huge movie hit; and when Artie Shaw does this tune he does great justice to this number. "I Can't Believe That You're in Love With Me" along with "Star Dust" shine bright; Bette Davis always loved "Star Dust" and when you hear Artie Shaw&His Orchestra perform this there'll be no secret as to why Bette loved it so very much. Although "Streamline" is actually an alternate take, it sounds blissful to me and I think you'll enjoy this number if you like this type of music.
"What Is This Thing Called Love?" showcases just how well Artie Shaw&His Orchestra could play a most romantic ballad and make it swing; and listen for "Alone Together" which gets a very sensitive treatment by these great artists. The second CD ends strong with Artie Shaw&His Orchestra performing "Nightmare." "Nightmare" is a number Artie and his mates sometimes played at the beginning or the end of a radio broadcast.
Overall, The Essential Artie Shaw is a wonderful compilation of Artie Shaw's best work with the members of his orchestra. I highly recommend this for fans of swing and big band music. 』

I'm 25, I work in a nursing facility, I know nothing about music from this time, and I purchased this CD for my residents with them in mind. The first time I put it on, I had a gentleman literally dancing in his seat. He was singing every word to every song. He called out each artist and each song - he remembered them all. I felt like I had just given him a gift. I've had other residents and their family members ask for the name of the album, so they could find it. It's truly a hit with the generation that grew up on these songs! Highly recommended. And best of all, I enjoy the music too...it has me singing the Strip Polka all day.』

(Should Have Ran Longer, Excellent!!!) 『Jane Eyre is a case in which audiences let the show down. This was a terrific musical, true to the book, covers all of it well, the music is lovely and doesn't slow the plot down, but enhances it. The performances are magnificent, particularly Barbour and Schaffel as Rochester and Jane, respectively, and the show was dazzling visually. The critics gave it favorable reviews, it was nominated for several Tony awards. The only thing it lacked was an audience. It simply never took off at the box office. I guess it didn't have enough Disney effects or pop music to draw the crowds. A real shame when a wonderful adaptation of one of the greatest works of literature in the English language is not successful.
The CD is a must have for theater buffs, it really is a marvelous score, highly enjoyable.』

(A Broadway Romance That Truly Soars) 『Charolotte Bronte would be proud, I have no doubt. I will undoubtedly be contradicted by other musical fanatics, but this truly enchanting musical version of the classic Gothic romance is the best page-to-stage musical to ever be brought to the stage for one simple reason: it has a beating heart and isn't afraid to be faithful to its source material. "Les Miz" may be touching, but I find the score in this gem of a shore to be truly more heart-wrenching as composer Paul Gordon doesn't write ballads for the sake of having a ballad. There are actually no "big" songs in this show to speak of in terms of structure - there "bigness" comes from the power of the story, and by the universally outstanding performances of the entire cast, especially the luminous Marla Schaffel as Jane Eyre, a role that should have won her more than a Tony nomination. As Jane, Marla positively shines. With a big belt and a lilting head voice, Marla has a big Broadway voice, but she is such a strong actress that you never feel as if you are listening to a performance: you are listening to THE Jane Eyre. Her voice soars in her numbers "Sweet Liberty," the heart-breaking "Painting Her Portrait," and blends perfectly with the overwhelmingly robust voice of James Barbour as Rochester. As the master of Thornfield Hall, Barbour is in excellent voice, but he doesn't truly become the character. Don't get me wrong, he does extremely well as Rochester, and no other baritone available at the time of this show's production could have played this role, but James performs his character, he doesn't become him, as Marla absolutely inhabits the role of Jane Eyre. However, James does bring a delightful sarcasm to his Rochester, not to mention a truly power-house voice. Compared to Anthony Crivello of the original Toronto production, however, James falls a little short, especially in his chemistry with Marla, which is barely apparent. For a full performance of Rochester, track down the out-of-print Toronto Cast Recording (sold used on this site by private sellers). As Mrs. Fairfax, Mary Stout is given two quick, bouncy numbers that show off her terrific comedic timing and bubbly, infectious presence. As Blanche Ingram, Elizabeth Degrazzia is a knockout, especially in the delightfully snobby tribute to material wealth, "The Finer Things." Paul Gordon's music is the biggest star next to Ms. Schaffel, writing many songs that will stand on their own two feet outside of the show, especially the exuisite "Brave Enough For Love," the honest and glimmering "Secret Soul," and the aching Act One closer "Sirens." Full of counter-melodies and lyrics lifted from or inspired by Bronte's original masterful prose, the score perfectly fits the story. If Jane and Rochester sang, this is what and how they would sing. Hopefully the show, overshadowed by THE PRODUCERS and robbed of the Tonys for Best Score and Best Actress, the show will never-the-less remain in the hearts of those who value it as one of the best musicals created so far this century.』 『Here's another to join the parade of page-to-stage musicals inspired by 19th-century fiction. Most importantly, he understands that this is more than a Gothic romance, foregrounding the central message of forgiveness that Jane learns as a girl. He attempts to explore the injured sense of self shared by both Jane and Rochester and sets them on a painful, mutual voyage of discovery.
The creative team also includes the veteran duo John Caird (book and direction) and John Napier (scenic design), who have collaborated on such epics asLes MisandNicholas Nickleby(not to mention the Las Vegas Siegfried and Roy extravaganza). And the show's creators seem to share a vision geared toward the more operatic end of the spectrum (it was opera composers, after all, who early on claimed 19th-century Gothic fiction for the stage, as in Donizetti'sLucia di Lammermoor), with an actual parody of coloratura in one showstopper ("The Finer Things") given to Blanche Ingram. Fortunately, the two principals have large, richly expressive voices to encompass the large, complicated emotions of these characters. Marla Schaffel singswith unusual beauty and brings dimension to her Jane, while James Barbour (whose resumé includesBeauty and the Beast) is never really threatening as Rochester, but rather a tortured soul who is sweet-voiced even at his most cynical. For this turn-of-the-millennium remake, Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron do their best to ground the fable in a more sophisticated reality, but that's just what this moviedoesn'tneed. The premise is preposterous to begin with, so we need credible fantasy to leap over chasms of logic and ease into what should be a tear-jerking variation ofLove Story. It's certainly possible to get suckered into the movie's sticky-sweet romance, but you'll need extra effort to suspend your disbelief.
Theron is Sara, who pathologically lures men into romance for one month at a time, "helping" them before moving onto the next month's catch. She's avoiding long-term commitments because she's deathly ill--a fact revealed byhundredsof prescription bottles hidden in her medicine cabinet. Reeves is Nelson, the fast-lane advertising executive who reluctantly becomes Sara's Mr. November. He's insulting and callous until he learns the truth, at which point director Pat O'Connor makes a 180-degree tone shift that cannot possibly succeed. Theron makes the most of her movie-sickness routine, but Reeves is out of his depth, and not one buttworomantic montages (set to the music of Enya, no less) only emphasize the movie's abundant clichés (the most obvious beingThe Patriot's Jason Isaacs as Theron's supportive gay neighbor). Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Hush, maybe they won't hear you if you get up and leave...) 『I laugh when I think of what I thought I might get out of `Hush...Hush Sweet Charlotte'. It looked so `dangerous' and so `chilling' and so; entertaining. Sadly, the film falters on so many levels that it can't really be taken seriously despite the fact that it tries so hard to be taken seriously.
I think that is my biggest complaint when it comes to this film. It should have embraced its flaws and fully embellished its own `silliness'. Instead, `Hush...Hush Sweet Charlotte' doesn't seem to get the fact that it is campy. It tries so hard to be serious that it winds up becoming laughable, especially when you consider the fact that nearly everyone involved is so intent of `acting their parts' that they bring a new meaning to the word `theatrical'. Bette Davis and Olivia de Havilland are all over the place (they truly compliment one another, if you get my drift), but neither are as slapstick crazy as Agnes Moorehead, who gives one of the worst supporting performances I've ever seen!
Am I crazy for thinking that Joseph Cotten was really good here?
So, the film has this layer of darkness that overwhelms it from the very beginning, when young Charlotte's lover is hacked up with an ax. I only wish that the film had known which way to go with itself. I mean, that opening scene is just delicious and could have led way to some horrific and truly chilling sequences, but instead the film feels cheap in its delivery and thus never once musters enough fear in us to care `one way or another' what happens in the end.
And the villains are so plainly obvious that one really only has to be introduced to them to know that they are no good, which kills any and all suspense that this half-baked thriller is trying to cook up.
When this film tries to be scary it's almost comical.
And yet, I really, really liked Joseph Cotten in this!
Some really love this film, but I for one can't really say much good for it, aside from Cotten. I found it to be sloppy and completely overly acted. The director didn't understand how to extract true suspense here, and with the ridiculous Moorehead stinking up nearly every other scene, this film is truly a disaster. What they should have done was embraced Moorehead's camp and turned this film into a spoof, intentionally serving us up laughter in place of terror. This could have at least become another `What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?', a film that established a clear cult following because it seemed to understand and toy with its own camp value.
But alas; this is a film that honestly thinks it's better than it is.』

(the damned don't cry) 『Under no circumstance can I give this movie more than one star after the way that Joan Crawford (may she rest in peace) was mistreated and abused by the producers, the director and the high holy priestess of the silver screen, Ruth Elizabeth Davis.
Although I have never been too interested in her, I know that Bette Davis was a talented actress, but she could also be very callous and vengeful and extremely mean-spirited. I find it inexcusable that she collectively had poor Joan blackballed because Bette Davis was jealous of Joan's beauty and gentility and gracefulness. Joan Crawford, a star who pioneered the modern American cinematic form, a star who acted in silents when Bette Davis was still in nappies, no less, deserved much, much better than she received.
According to Joan's close friends and assistants at the time, Joan was so emotionally and physically torn, drained and beaten down from the wanton abuse that Bette Davis threw at her that she had no other choice but to check herself into the hospital. Joan did not know how to fight. She was not a fighter in the literal sense. Joan was a pacifist who loved people. And we have to remember that this was her doctor's orders and it was for her own personal health and well-being. And while poor Joan was in the hospital she actually heard of her firing over the radio. They just threw her away like yesterdays newspaper. So sad and so tragic and so disrespectful and disgraceful. But Joan (may she rest in peace) was always a professional and always such a kind and wonderful person and even until the day she passed away never had a bad word to say about Bette Davis or the producers of this film.
Bette Davis always got the very best writers, directors, editors and producers and scripts. Like a poor, starving, innocent, puppy, looking for tables-scraps, Joan simply had to make do with whatever the studio was throwing her way. But Joan, unlike Bette, was always able to make it work because she personified the American woman. She worked harder than any other (wo)man in Hollywood and like a cat holding onto it's 9th life, sustained her career for 6 decades.
As if playing second-fiddle to a second-rate "actress" wasn't bad enough, kind-hearted Joan had to contend with the veiled comments about her appearance, too. Yet, these same critics making these comments almost never bothered to mention that Joan always looked at least 17 years younger than Better Davis. Nor did they ever mention how beautiful and elegant Joan always looked whenever she was seen out in public, even when she was well into her late '60s.
Joan made a classic movie of her own in 1964, titled "Strait-Jacket." And as Ms. Diane Baker (Joan's co-star in the film said in the '02 DVD featurette) if it hadn't been a horror movie, where, by now everyone had all of these preconceived notions about Joan, she likely would have been nominated for an Oscar.
Incidentally, the plot of "Hush...Hush...Sweet Charlotte" is actually rather similar to Joan's other 1964 film, "Fatal Confinement," which is much, much better than "Hush...Hush...Sweet Charlotte" (and came out first.)
I found the performance (or lack there of) by Bette Davis to be lacking in anything even remotely real and human. Like most of her roles (with a very, small exception) she came off as hard, brazen, not very ladylike and rather inhuman (and inhumane) and un-relatable. Incidentally, Agnes Moorhead looked like a regular transvestite. The only performance that was not lacking pretense was that of Ms. Olivia de Havilland (who is still very much alive and kicking.)
If you can find the rare Key Video release of this film, I say get it only because it has a rather unusual cover. However I do not recommend this movie for any other purposes, but if you really must see it wait for it to come on TV.
According to Wikipedia there is actually an original scene in the movie that Joan filmed that is still intact, "There is a long shot in the beginning of the movie, when Miriam gets out of the taxi upon her arrival at the Hollis plantation, that actually shows the back of Joan Crawford's head and not de Havilland's." Why would Joan's portion be left in and not cut out? Some conspirisists think that this was done on purpose to capitalize on Joan's huge name and worldwide box office appeal and loyal public, who, to this day only have the best to say about her.
Contrary to many books and reports stating otherwise, there was never a "feud" between Joan and Bette Davis. Joan was too much of a lady to wallow in the mud with the pigs and simply found it beneath her to ever disrespect anyone, so she simply said nothing. That is one of the (many) reasons why I have so much respect for her.

As the drunken, conniving Dr. Drew, Cotten's accent is indeterminate at times, and seems to come and go. (An over-looked Vietnam war classic film) 『Released in the same year as other Vietnam films such as "Coming Home" and "The Deer Hunter", this fine low-budget film was ignored by the Academy in favor of the other two yet it boasts one of Burt Lancaster best latter day performances and the other two leads, Craig Wasson and Marc Singer, are also excellent as well. In fact Lancaster was so fond of the brilliant script/story that he donated $150,000 out of his pocket to complete the film. In print, Lancaster stated that he considered "Airport" a pile of crap but he was paid so well for it that he could afford to play a role such as Maj Asa Baker, a war weary veteran of previous wars. Along with his other great roles such as "Atlantic City" and "The Leopard", this one ranks as one of his best and the direction by Ted Post (Hang Em High;Magnum Force) is focused and efficient. Recommended for anyone interested in the whole Vietnam dilemna and war enthusiasts.』

(A glimpse into the abyss) 『This is a most excellent collection. Every film is well made, thought provoking, and a fascinating time travel trip to another era. I saved watching the lesser known "The Set Up" for last thinking it was just a filler to this collection. Whoa boy, was I wrong. Robert Ryan I'v always liked as an actor. But when the beginning credits were rolling by and I saw directed by Robert Wise my enthusiam perked up. Within a few minutes there was total surrender to a very well crafted intriguing story. Many characters are introduced, some in very short segments, but you feel you know them, who they are, what their purpose is. Not a shot goes by without characterization, story, sense of place, time-line, relationships being addressed. It is a spellbinding immersion. Film noir is noted for it's more realistic earthy/dark portrayal of life. It was a revolution of film artists agaisnt hollywood cotton candy dreams. The stories/approach are from the gut. Film afficionados will love this collection. Young film students will benefit from exposure to well written stories, film crafting artistry with a moderate budget, and an approach where talent does not need special effects.』

(Should Be Called Common OverPriced Tower) 『I recieved this from somebody as a gift, however what was included was not as listed. First the almond roca candy had so much of a coffee flavor it tasted like eating a can of coffee despite this not being mentioned, also I did not receive shortbread cookies but instead toffee which was way to sweet and not very good. I did not receive chocolate chip cookies but I instead got white chocloate macademia nut cookies which were mini size and only like 4 in the package. Better gifts baskets for this price are available at other companies, I usually use them, I could have got a main/name brand top notch choclate tower or similar from them for this price with quality items. In short, I was disappointed, the quanity was small and the products obviusouly very cheap, this basket should only be priced at $10 rather than $40, and anyone who buys this beware of the reaction you will get on the other end. The largest item only had about 3 mini size white choclate macademia nut cookies in it, everything else was so small it requires no mention to size or quality, although you would expect more quality and better quanity than this. As a quick note, the strawberry bonbon candy is the common .25 hard candy bought anywhere and not gourmet or anything of the such. The description makes it sound great, but you can buy all this at a drug store for under 20 easily. Plus this gift basket can be bought elsewhere for the same price as a brand name such as ghiraderi or a Starbucks gift basket, see how the value comparison does not add up at all? Enough said, avoid.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (An occasional, necessary luxury) 『A very grown up taste and satisfying darker chocolate so that I'm able to eat one, sometimes 2, and not feel I need to eat the whole box at one sitting. These chocolates are pricey yes, not the kind you share with the neighbors. These you keep for yourself in a totally selfish, but at times, necessary way. The brandy kick is subtle, does not in my opinion hurt but enhance the taste experience against the fig and chocolate. I see it this way--in this downer of an economy, buying a box of these is a lot cheaper than that trip to Italy you thought you'd be planning right now. We may have no choice but to tighten our financial belts in a serious way; but in small ways, we all still need to have a simple luxury now and then that puts a smile on our face.』
(Delicious but watch out for the brandy!) 『This is a delicious, decadent, moist whole fig, complete with stem, delicately filled with a soft chocolate truffle type center then enrobed in chocolate with brandy. They are not wrapped as shown, yet foil-sealed on both ends like a miniature candy bar which was not as elegant in presentation, but did not detract from the item.
Although decadent and clearly hand-made, I believe the use of brandy overpowered this otherwise luscious sweet. The brandy flavor is overwhelming and drowned the superior chocolate, rich center, and delicate fig. The taste reeked far too much of alcohol. If you are a brandy lover, then you will love this. If you do not savor spirits mixed with your chocolate treats, beware.
If they ever decide to make a non-brandy version of this, I must say it would easily be amongst the elite of gourmet bonbons.
Regardless of my personal taste against spirit imbued desserts, this product is well accomplished, truly unique, artisinal and abosolutely worth trying.

My suggestion is to put the box in the refrigerator. Take it out at least 20 - 30 minutes before you indulge. That way it brings these wonderful pieces to room temperature and the flavor comes back to full richness.
So, as I said, I'm trying to save it but ... the last fifteen pieces keep calling out to me.

Our granddaughters LOVED it! It was really hard to drag them out of the nursery when it was time to go, they were so absorbed in the activity. Unfortunately they 'don't make them anymore' but we found one at Amazon that had never been out of the box. Minimal furnishings, but our granddaughters are at an age where that doesn't seem important. The bathroom would appear to be the most fascinating collection of "furniture" in the house. The 4 year old carries on nearly unintelligible dialogues with the dolls. Couldn't resist buying a few additional matching pieces, the "grandma" (how come no grandpa is available?),and mom-dad-baby in African-American and WASP designs. Also how come no cat? There's a dog available but the kids have cats, not dogs at home. It seems to be an enduring item for play, not just sudden interest and then neglect.It sits on the raised hearth in the living room (no fire in the fireplace)more or less permanently.』

I wanted to replace the hands with the open hands (included), so she could hold her sword. Getting the hands off and the new ones on took a LOT more force than I'd have expected. Enough that I inadvertently broke one of her wings. Bad thing. The solution would have been to take off her arm completely at the shoulder joint, so I could apply pressure as needed, without risking the rest of the figure, but I didn't think of that at the time.
So... it's my own fault for being reckless, but be aware that changing hands on Pocco is a serious battle, and has to be done with care. That said, I like the figure enough that I'm seriously considering buying a replacement, and using my broken one for spare parts.』

And the book has such glowing reviews right here on the product page. Why doesn't Amazon offer it for sale? Is it out of print already? A Caldecott Honor book out of print just two months after being named an honor book? Oh yes, I see I can purchase it from independent sellers--three who know how much Caldecott followers long to have it. But I'm afraid my little library cannot afford those prices.

This is the type of poetry William Carlos Williams wrote, and the type that translates beautifully into the mixed media artwork throughout River of Words. I cannot recommend this book enough. The art acts as a parallel story to the narrative about "Willy." The pictures sometimes do not describe the words of the story, but always perfectly describe the poetry that WCW was writing. I personally believe that the only thing that kept this book from getting the Caldecott was its age focus. This isn't the type of book that say a six year old could pick up and read without any help. The words of the story are simple enough, but for a child, it would be hard to tell what is the story and what is not. Start a love of poetry young in children! Show them it isn't all rhyming and convoluted images. Show them that "This is just to say I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox
and which you were probably saving for breakfast
Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold"
is a beautiful poem. Mostly, read to your kids. You could be reading them The Anatomy of the Human Body and it would still make an impact. (A good mini-desserts guide) 『Not long ago I purchased the book "Bite-size desserts". When I was recently asked to make desserts for a fundraiser for a non-profit organization (I do the baking for free and only get reimbursed for the ingredients) I decided to use recipes from this book because I needed to make small desserts. I planned 7 desserts for about 100 people (a 2 day baking marathon in my small home kitchen) and selected 5 of the recipes from Carole's book: Sour Cream Cupcakes, Lemon Tartlets, Madeleines, Filo Triangles, and Cardamom Butter Cookies. I made few adjustments to some of the recipes (for example the filo triangles I filled only with a tiny scoop of Nutella, in the cupcakes I replaced the cinnamon with vanilla, Madeleines I made with finally chopped crystallized ginger and in the lemon tartlets I replaced the meringue with fresh blueberries because of transporting logistics), but in general I followed all the instructions in the recipes.
The desserts were a huge hit and I want to complement Carole on her book. I found the sections on "'keeping" and "making a change" very useful too. I liked the overall selection of the recipes in the book and will certainly try to make many more.
There was only a slight issue for me with listing all the ingredients in one list and not separating them into a list for a dough or batter and for a topping or frosting. Couple times I put the whole amount (of sugar for instance) in the batter or dough and later as I was following the steps did I realize my mistake. Luckily I tested the recipes in small batches before I made a bigger amount. Once I figured the organization of the ingredients I carefully read each recipe before making it (which should always be done anyway) and noted on the margins the correct amounts. But this issue still did not detract from the overall value of the book.
Carole's book will be on my Christmas shopping list for all my friends who share my passion of baking.

The outside sweet and tasty (the cover blurb) the inside just a puff of air (the narrative).
First of all Goldy really needs to age If Arch is a few months shy of his 16th birthday and she is 34 she managed to get deep enough into college to start her studies in her selected major - meet John Richard - get married and have a child remarkable she did all this by the age of 19 !
Okay that aside Where was the true mystery in this one and where was the justice. You hardly could care about anyone that got killed cause we never got to see any side of their character that would have made us the reader want to see the killer caught. This whole Sandee thing was just silly - she steals the church's vehicle camps out in the home of a wealthy vacationing couple (what no security system!) and runs around doing what ? and how stupid was the part where Goldy confronts her and realizes that Sandee will be able to clear out (HOW ?) before the cops can close in. Of course most of Goldy's confrontations were stupid - She gets her hair chopped off gee I know I live in mortal fear of a serial killer chopping off my hair !
Oh and the drug dealing in the library - anyone investigating that ? !
Do we ever learn why the librarian careened down the slope out of control or was it just because she was upset - Yes most people do go skiing after a workplace murder.
Marla may be wealthy and all that but really Goldy wrecked a car and a coat to the tune of 65k and Marla just decides to fix Goldy's hair ?? Goldy is still a caterer right ? She seemed to say to herself an awful lot that "Julian will handle it" hope he never decides to get a life. Also underage drinking etc that is never brought to the attention of the parents considering one of the men is sitting at their luncheon table.
Let's face it we all thought that Hermie and Smithfield were going to be villains but alas they just turned out to be unpleasant people and stupid parents. Thank goodness at least Julian was able to resist the charms of their out of control 14 year old.
I know also that I and most of my friends encourage our pastors to stop over for a meal get drunk, swear and spill their guts.
I agree with another reviewer that I can't believe that every wealthy person on the planet treats everyone with disdain. In this day and age of celebrity chefs I doubt if Goldy would be treated the way that she is. I also thought Tom was a cop a good cop I would hate to tell him anything in confidence since apparently he can't keep his mouth shut and he needs Goldy between making brownies to solve his cases. Come on get the series back on track - Make Goldy put down the coffee cup, bring back the Marla that I loved, let Arch stop popping up every two seconds, make the mystery something actually worth solving or retire the series before it slips into an abyss. Shame on you Ms Davidson for not respecting the intelligence of your faithful readers more.

(tedious, poor characterization, outrageous action) 『Of all the Diane Mott Davidson stories, this one is my least favorite.
First, as other reviewers have said, the author is constantly "reviewing" what just happened, without advancing the story. Second, none of the characters develop at all -- not John, Julian, Arch, Marla, or anybody else. They are barely window dressing in this book. Third, Goldy acts like such a complete and total fool so many times, it's ridiculous. When she knocked on the door of the person she thought was the killer in her hideout, and then basically stole a client's car and cell phone, I just about wanted to throw the book out the window. If I were her husband, I would have arrested her myself. Fourth, the other characters, who are all trying to keep an eye on Goldy, somehow disappear from the author's imagination. Many times Goldy does something reckless and I am thinking to myself, "um...where did Marla go? where did John go? where did Julian go? Are they all just watching Goldy be stupid? Or do they just have their eyes closed?"』
