Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Sooooo cute, wanted to love it but measurements ARE inaccurate) 『I read reviews before I bought this, but I wanted to believe that the people were wrong who said the measurements were inaccurate because of the ribbon. They were right. The ribbon adds at least an extra 1/2". I think I will either sew it or tape it so it is right. If you butt the panels right up next to eachother the measurement is exactly right. Otherwise this is a wonderful growth chart. I think it is very well made and beautiful. It is NOT a toy, so it is not made for your child to play with - definitely not sturdy enough for that. I am disappointed about the measurement problem, but not enough to send it back. It is too pretty and too easy to fix. I hope they are still around for my next child!』
(Love this growth chart!) 『Unlike the first review, we haven't had any issues with extra space between the measurements where the ribbon lies. We also find that the ribbon is thorughly secured and adds a decorative touch. This growth chart is adorable and fun. We love it!』
(Great addition to our garden themed decor.) 『I bought the growth chart because it matched the garden decor for our first daughter's room. The growth chart's measurements were not accurate, but we loved it. I'm purchasing another one for my second daughter.』
(A complete waist of money!!!) 『I have bought this chart to measure my daughter's annual growth. The design of this product is cute however the three panels are very flimsy. The panels are held together with a fabric tape which add several inches to the overall length of this chart but the measuring system on the chart doesn't reflect this ( the distance between inch 36 and 37 is an inch and a half). Therefore, I had to measure my daughter and then manually enter it on the chart. Not much of a growing chart to me. The stickers included to record Birthdays and Special Occasions are small and melt together with the background color/design, therefore are really hard to spot. A complete waist of money!!!』 『Growing Like a Sunflower Growth Chart illustration by Melissa Sweet is a beautiful gift, certain to be treasured! eeBoo's unique format includes a beautifully illustrated, heavily laminated chart that folds up and fits inside a sturdy gift box. Measures up to 60 inches. The chart comes with 20 stickers for marking Birthdays and other important occasions. A perfect gift idea for a new baby!!』

(a limited legacy) 『Roy Buchanan showed up on my "rock radar" in the 1970s. Living in L.A., I occasionally heard some of his songs on late night FM "progressive rock" stations and was mildly interested. His talent with the Fender telecaster guitar was hard to ignore, but by the 1980s, histrionic and careening guitar solos had already become a subject of parody in rock journalism and SNL comedy sketches. (Today they persist as self-parody in various air guitar events.) As rock continued to morph, the better songwriters, musicians and bands came to use the lead guitar more economically, integrating it with the rhythm and bass guitars, drums and the vocals - proving the old adage that less is more. In the best ensembles following the thankful twilight (and sunset) of the "guitar gods," the judicious use of keyboards, harmonicas, along with the seasoning of acoustic guitars and brass enriched and nuanced rock and roll.
The best example of a huge guitar talent "knowing his place" is the career of Ry Cooder. He astutely assembles some of the best instrumentalists and integrates his guitar work with their instruments. Think of John Hiatt's BRING THE FAMILY, recorded in the same year as Buchanan's suicide. It is a record that - thanks to its use of Cooder's guitar and his band - has a great range of snappy instrumental work and musical styles. BTF succeeds in lifting Hiatt's songwriting and vocals to a new level and it is arguably his best recording. By the way, Cooder draws from a broad spectrum of musical traditions, respects them and masters them.
By contrast the selections in this 2 CD set of the late Buchanan's career show him up as a monomaniacal bombast - a singular instrumentalist who turns his guitar work into pyrotechnical displays at the expense of everything else in his music. The band mostly seems along for the ride, providing filler for one intense telecaster solo after another, as the straining fretwork grows evermore tedious. Nearly all Buchanan's songs are covers of other musician's work, and this is the terrain of the bar/club band, cannibalizing the mainstream hits of commercially successful rockers for the consumers of Bud "longnecks." Buchanan strikes me as a bar band guitarist who metastasized into a talent that finally had no place to go.
Were Buchanan's monster guitar solos a compensation for his inadequate vocals? Perhaps, and his thin, high vocals sink his songs every time. Troubling, too, is the overworked version of "Hey Joe" here that takes on a surly misogynist edge that gave me the creeps - as if the murderous content needed any further menace from the singer. Was there a Mrs. Buchanan to wonder about her husband's approach to this song?
Sometimes you can tell a lot about a musician by their fans - especially those who REMAIN Buchanan fans. Terms like arrested development and perpetual adolescence come to mind. But I suppose someone has to keep the flame at a guitar god's shrine. For me, I'm a convinced "atheist" - unless a lost recording of a DIFFERENT Buchanan turns up to prove me wrong.』
(Timeless and awesone) 『If you haven't heard of Roy Buchanan, you will be glad you did. This is the one album to get. In my top 10 of all time for sure.』
(10 STARS: THE GREATEST GUITARIST THIS SIDE OF JIMI HENDRIX) 『I only saw Roy Buchanan once, during the mid 80s,I stood five feet from him and I was absolutely Gobsmacked!! Now, here's a man who produced a gumbo of country, blues, rock&roll, jazz, whatever, into a wholly original creation of the most sublime, intense, technically challenging electric guitar music in history. He was a true original, growing up in hillbilly America, backing the likes of Dale Hawkins (that's him on "My Babe"), he was the classic journeyman. Apparently, later, Ronnie Hawkins (Dale's cousin)asked Roy to briefly join the Hawks to teach newbe "Robbie Robertson" some guitar tricks. On their first session, apparently Roy gave Robbie a look which said "You wanna dance?! Then, let's dance!". As he tuned up, Roy went through a whole symphony of sounds, squeals, harmonics, glissando runs, pulverizing the younger guitarist! Roy Buchanan was a legend. His renditions of Don Gibson's "Sweet Dreams" or Neil Young's "Down By The River" place him at the very pinacle of electric guitar greats! it is criminal that this genius of the guitar never got his due! However, ask any tele player worth his salt and, dollars to donuts, Roy Buchanan (along with Danny Gatton) will be at the very top of their list of heroes. As proof, check out the Hellecaster's wonderful tribute to him (their version of Sweet Dreams from their first album). This box includes a firm introduction to Roy Buchanan and his formidable talent. Reader be warned. After hearing this set, you WILL be compelled to go out and buy the remainder of his catalogue. We will NEVER see the likes of him again. So...all you guitar players out there, tune up your teles and BOW DOWN BEFORE A MASTER!!』
(Could have been stronger as a single disc) 『Roy Buchanan was an exceptionally powerful instrumentalist whose blues-based playing was a nice contrast to his exceptionally untraditional use of a Telecaster. Roy loved to manipulate the volume and tone pots of his Tele to get unearthly volume swells and wah-wah like effects that could make his guitar sound like a violin or a woman screaming. Anyone listening to this collection will notice similarities between Roy's playing and that of Jeff Beck and Dave Gilmour, both of whom were huge fans of Roy's and freely admitted his influence over their styles.
Unfortunately, like many gifted guitar heroes, Roy's studio output was erratic. Most of the first CD, which features Roy's beautiful version of "Sweet Dreams" along with some fine blues covers, is some of the best instrumental music ever recorded. Sadly, Roy also had an absolutely terrible singing voice and either he or his producers insisted on recording vocal tracks. "The Messiah Will Come Again" works because Roy only delivers a spoken intro, but other songs are seriously marred by his flat, deadpan delivery. The second CD is even worse, this time including an overlong jam around "Green Onions".
Don't get me wrong. I'm a fan of Roy's and his best material is some of my favorite music. As an anthology, however, I'd prefer that he were remembered for his very best music and not some of his most uneven. This could have been edited down to a very good single disc. Instead, we're left with a two-disc set that you'll end up skipping through huge sections out of necessity.』 『One of the tragic figures in blues-rock, Roy Buchanan possessed chops that matched those of any of his more acclaimed contemporaries, including Eric Clapton. His recording accomplishments, however, were problematic. Despite forecasts of stardom that corresponded with his 1972 solo debut (the Arkansas- born virtuoso made his debut as a sideman 15 years earlier), Buchanan never found the perfect forum for instrumental expression. After years of frustration, he hung himself in a jail cell in 1986 after being arrested for drunk driving. This 2 CD anthology stands as the definitive overview of Buchanan's career, mixing the best of his '70s and '80s records with a generous assortment of unreleased tracks.--Steve Stolder』

(A crossover from chant to Sacred Harp...) 『OK, this is *not* an "authentic" Sacred Harp recording. Anonymous 4 are trained professional singers who have mostly recorded chant, plainsong and medieval polyphony. Sacred Harp is an early American folk tradition, music written to be sung a capella by mostly untrained singers. While the harmonies are reminiscent of medieval polyphony, the music itself sounds energetic, intense, a bit raw -- made to be sung by hardy pioneer types. For Sacred Harp fans, the very rawness is a big part of the genre's appeal -- but I've noticed most of my classically-inclined friends cannot seem to get past the untrained voices to appreciate the beauty of the music itself.
That is where this CD comes in. Anonymous 4 are anything but raw and amateurish -- their gorgeous, ethereal voices sound nothing like your typical Sacred Harp singer, but the eerie modal harmonies and soaring descants of Sacred Harp music are presented here in clear glory. The ladies let loose a bit more than on their previous albums of chant and plainsong, but it is never raucous or rough-edged.
So it's not "real" Sacred Harp, but it is gorgeous in its own right -- and you can clearly hear the connection from ancient music to these 18th and 19th century American songs.
』
(Wonderful Music by A Terrific Group in SACD (maybe)) 『Ditto on all of the 5 star reviews of American Angels. I bought mine from one of Amazon's partners and to my utter delight the item was recorded in jaw-dropping Harmonia Mundi multi-channel SACD. (The prequel to this CD, Gloryland, is also available in SACD.) So, if you like the format, which you should, check with the vendors and see if it's SACD. This is great music in any format but the SACD has wonderful clarity and depth - a terrific experience.』
(Even better than I expected) 『Even better than I expected. I have told my friends about it. Would make a wonderful gift.』
(Harmonies and stylistics) 『I admit it: this is less a review and more of a compulsion to weigh in on the debate, as both a performer of early music and a longtime shapenote singer.
First of all, this is Anonymous 4, and these women are much to polished and professional to do anything less than magnificent. That being said, this is Anonymous 4, and they worked for years on perfecting their sound and in particular the blend of their four voices. They cannot be expected to sound like four random singers at a Sacred Harp convention, where anyone and everyone is welcome. Those who have said that this sacred music is for everyone are right: it is for everyone, back porch singers and trained professional alike. Anonymous 4 just happens to fall into the latter group. To say that this music only belongs to "common folk" (if you define that as people of little or no vocal training) is just ludicrous. That being said, A4 does have fun with the music. They know they're not singing chants and motets, so they alter the style of their singing, but within the boundaries of how their voices blend best. So are their scoops and slides too much or too little? That's a call that each individual listener will have to make. (Though I've heard back country shapenote singers do a lot more embellishment than what these ladies do!)
Second, in response to the critiques about harmony: that's exactly what shapenote singing is. What's more, this music was traditionally written with the melody in the tenor, not the soprano (which is what we are more used to). So yes, the melody is going to get buried until your ears get used to hearing the melody in the middle of the vocal parts rather than on top. That's not getting carried away with harmonic acrobatics: that's singing the music as it was written.
Finally, as to my rating, I base the 5 stars on how well this ensemble accomplished what they set out to do: supremely well, as always. Is it a CD I listen to everyday? Honestly I don't often listen to any of the A4 CDs I have, simply because I'm not often in the mood for chant! (I will say that I listen to American Angels more than any other A4 CD I own.) But when I do want this kind of music, there's nobody better!』 『This, Anonymous 4's final recording, is a break from their usual "early music" periods and locations; it presents American music, religious in nature, from the 18th and 19th centuries. And it's absolutely beautiful from start to finish. Their normal, exquisite technique and purity here blend to sound the way we imagined the ladies' choir in church meetings in America past might have sounded: sweet, sincere, and with harmonies recognizable yet somehow fresh. Some of the songs begin with the women singing "fa, so la" exercises, which was called "shape note" singing because some places taught singing with notes as shapes--circle, rectangle, diamond, triangle. But it's the music that counts, and there are treasures here. They include two versions of "Amazing Grace," one familiar, one with an unusual melody and a piece called "Blooming Vale" which is as sophisticated as anything on their previous albums. "Shall We Gather at the River" is performed with a clarity and loveliness that makes us forget that it's normally sung as background to movies about the Great Depression. The foursome sometimes sing in rich harmonies and occasionally alone or in pairs or trios. This is glorious Americana and highly recommended.--Robert Levine』

In that case it was tracing the roots of country blues through well-known old time country bluesman Charley Patton via Bob Dylan tribute, "High Water Everywhere" on his latest "Bootleg" volume. Here, the route to reviewing folk/rock lyricist and singer Richard Thompson, known back in the day as part of the well-thought of British folk group Fairport Convention, is a cover of his classic working class love song, "1952 Vincent Black Lightning' covered, and covered very well, by American folksinger Greg Brown. But that is where the comparisons end. In the case of Dylan's tribute I was able to review Patton's early work very favorably. Here I am, frankly, stymied.
I was not particularly a fan of Fairport Convention back in the days, although anytime I heard them then (or now, when played on a local oldies folk radio program) I was always impressed by their harmonics. When I asked others about Richard Thompson as a solo artist I thought I was confronting the Second Coming with the profuseness of the praise for his work. And that is where the problem is. His lyrics, as "1952 Vincent" shows, are incredibly well thought out and richly evocative. (How about that combination, right?) However, his presentation, mainly the result of over-production, leaves me flat. So, I guess, and it will not be the first time this has happened, Google for Thompson's lyrics and find out who covers his material. Here I will say that three songs really stick out- "Needle And Thread", "She Sang Angels To Rest", and "Sunset Song".

(Sweet Warrior) 『Lovely and Lively music by the Legendry Richard Thompson. The lyrics of each song is meaningful; not just 'yeah, yeah, yeah' - Great to listen to RT's music. His Lyrics, voice give the listener that "Get Up and Go" feeling, also can be quite relaxing, enjoyable music. This CD is definitely one for any lover of good music, lyrics sung with emotion, RT's guitar playing is seemingly effortless; his performance is Fantastic Live, This CD allows RT's to give you a private performance! Would recommend to anyone who values the song for the lyrics and great music by RT.』
(A Fine Return To Form) 『I've been a Richard Thompson fan for about 20 years though I haven't been too excited about his output of recent years. This album however has rekindled my interest. In Sweet Warrior, Thompson returns to his unique, lyrical folk-rock-punk style. His vocals, which are an acquired taste, to say the least, never sounded better. The guitar work is as always, nothing short of brilliant,(imagine Mark Knopfler on steroids). Great band of backing musicians as well.』
(Sweet Warrior - Sweeter to The Listener) 『Excellent Richard Thompson CD, The lyrics attract me to RT's music, this CD is packed with Xcellent Story telling through music by the Genius of Richard Thompson. Each song has a story to tell - each one is pure enjoyment. If you are a RT fan or just beginning to explore his music this is a great CD. His voice is pitch perfect, emotions with his singing voice, and to each song. One of my favorite RT's CD's. Think this is perfect match for the music lover who enjoys the lyrics as much as the song. This is not a 'yeah, yeah, yeah' singer songwriter. His songs have meaning. I can connect with each song on some level in my personal life. He speaks/writes/sings of life, stories told in words, music that surpasses any artist or is on par with the greats.』
(Absolutely brilliant!) 『There is not much more that can be said about this superb release from former Fairport Convention guitarist Richard Thmpson. He just gets better each time out. "She Sang Angels To Rest" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. If the test of a great song is its ability to stir emotion in the listener, then Thompson has certainly accomplished that with this beautiful tune. The album moves perfectly from the rocking "Needle and Thread", which was a great choice to open up the album, to the hilarious "Mr. Stupid", to the tongue in cheek "Dad's Gunna Kill Me"---a tune about everyone's REAL Dad, to the excellent shanty, "Johnny's Far Away", which makes me want to go order a Guiness in a little Irish Pub ever time I hear it.
Truly not a bad song on the entire collection. This may be Thompson's best effort, to date.』 『Back in the '80s and '90s, Richard Thompson could be depended upon to release a well-crafted collection of Celtic-influenced folk-rock every few years. But when he left Capitol after 1999'sMock Tudor, Thompson headed off on side projects, all of typically high quality, but not the solo albums his established cult expected. Those fans can now rejoice, because onSweet WarriorThompson roars back with his first electric set of originals since 2003, and it's a winner. As the disc's title implies, he revisits the familiar territory of love as a battlefield in these 14 originals. The concept is emphasized by a liner photo of the singer/songwriter in army gear and camouflage flanked by two beautiful women planting kisses on either cheek. Supported by longtime backing cohorts, the guitarist adds to his six-string talents with occasional mandolin, autoharp, accordion, and even organ, all used as icing on a cake of tunes that further refine his established style. Perhaps the most startling song is the viciously anti-war "Dad's Going to Kill Me," about a soldier stationed in Baghdad (the "Dad" of the title), wondering if he will survive another day. "Guns are the Tongues" finds Thompson telling the tragic tale of a young man enticed by a woman's charms ending up as a suicide-bombing terrorist. Thompson's dramatic guitar solos are kept on low boil, occasionally bubbling up but never hogging the spotlight. They are, along with his distinctive vocals, actors in a play of characteristically classy tunes that will thrill Thompson's fans, who have been waiting for just such a set of literate and challenging music from a musician who never delivers less.--Hal Horowitz』 『Literate rocker Richard Thompson's new album, Sweet Warrior, is a return to his classic electric sound, his first plugged-in album since 2003's The Old Kit Bag. Filled with 14 songs of stories of loss and betrayal, the album also contains one of Thompson's most overtly political songs to date, "Dad's Gonna Kill Me," told from the perspective of a nervous young soldier stationed in Baghdad (abbreviated as "Dad" in the song). Richard Thompson is a consummate singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His career stretches back to the late '60s, when he was a founding member of the British folk-rock Fairport Convention. In the late '70s, with his then-wife, Linda, he recorded Shoot Out the Lights, which regularly makes critics' lists of the best records of all time. In the '90s, he experienced another career renaissance with the album Rumor&Sigh and he remains an elder-statesman of alternative rock.』

(Wonderful -- get it) 『I watched this movie for the first time about a month ago off cable and was so impressed I had to purchase the DVD to add to my library. Years ago when this was at the theater I assumed it was some sort of mockery against God, but it isn't at all. While not the same type of theme, I put the story line on par with The Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant).』
(Heavenly!) 『This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Although I have seen it several times, I recently purchased the DVD--this movie is a keeper!
The writing is bright and funny, and the cast is spot-on perfect. Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, Charles Grodin, Dyan Cannon, James Mason, Jack Warden, Buck Henry . . . what an amazing, talented group of actors, each doing what they do best.
"Heaven Can Wait" is one of those gems that will make you laugh out loud, no matter how many times you have seen it before.
And if you want to see another hilarious movie about death (Really!) also pick up Defending Your Life, by Albert Brooks. Hmmm . . . these two movies would make a great double feature.

Joe settles on a vicious multimillionaire whose wife and partner are trying to kill him. Light, breezy, with not a mean bone in its body,Heavenis based on the 1941 filmHere Comes Mr. Jordan. Beatty is wonderfully daft and innocent as Joe, Jack Warden is on top of his form as Joe's trainer Corky, and Julie Christie appears to be playing a diaphanous summer dress. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (THE BIRD ERA IN BOSTON--IT WAS GREAT WHILE IT LASTED!!!) 『I've been following the Boston Celtics on and off since 1973 after I read a SCHOLASTIC SCOPE article about Dave Cowens while I was in junior high school. But as much as I grew to love the Dave Cowens-John Havlicek-Paul Silas-Jo Jo White and Tommy Heinsohn as Coach era, the Larry Bird era was even better!
I've never seen a player--particularly a white player--that had to be guarded like Bird did! Sometimes it looked like there were 3 or 4 guys guarding Bird at once, and he'd still score!
The "Sweet Sixteen" video is the best basketball video ever, but "Home of the Brave isn't bad either. But the 1986 Boston Celtics were the best Celtics team ever, while the Celtics team that went to the 1987 Finals against the Lakers and lost badly was just another losing finalist, with Bill Walton just a stumbling shadow of his former self after yet another foot injury. But the 1986 Celtics team that won the championship was maybe the fourth best ever, and the Houston Rockets team they beat--with Hakeem Olajuwan and Ralph Sampson--might be in the top five all time, too. The "Sweet Sixteen" video is very well written and well resesearched, especially in the way it shows that the series was much tougher than most people know--the Rockets seemed unbeatable in the first part of Game One--and particularly in the way it highlights the 1986 SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR Bill Walton! Without Walton, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO 16TH NBA CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE CELTICS!!! There are also excellent shots of Ralph Sampson which will be an eye opener for anyone who thought he couldn't play. RALPH SAMPSON IS ONE OF THE 5 BEST CENTERS EVER TO PLAY THE GAME!!! But Larry Bird knew how to deal with Ralph Sampson, or rather--how to let the Boston fans deal with Ralph!--and after the now legendary Game 5--featuring the fight between the 7'4 Sampson and 6'1 Celtics backup guard Jerry Sichting!--Larry Legend announced to the press that "Sampson had better wear a hard hat...our fans will take care of him!" And they did!
I will never forget the Larry Bird era in Boston!!!-- IT WAS GREAT WHILE IT LASTED!!!

This is great value and a great tape. Great basketball, great players, great footage. The 1985-86 Celtics must surely be hailed as one of the greatest teams of all time. So much depth and talent which no team could handle during the 85-86 season.
The tape follows the Celtics, firstly through the 86-87 season, where injuries and fatigue took its toll. It is great to see an NBA Finals review from the losing team's perspective (as opposed to the Lakers - Drive for Five tape). The tape then moves onto the previous years Championship over Houston. (Clever punchy British black comedy) 『Taking a cue from American ex-pat Patricia Highsmith's Strangers on a Train, playwright Alan Ayckbourn penned the plays on which Sweet Revenge was based, in whith two strangers each agree to bump off the person causing him/her the most misery in their respective lives.
Of course Ayckbourn can't duplicate what Highsmith had already brilliantly done, so he starts things off with both parties being suicidal (definitely NOT part of the Highsmith story), then moves in very different directions from Highsmith indeed.
Malcolm Mowbray, the talented director of this movie, (he also directed another punchy black comedy, but set in the States, Out Cold--with Teri Garr, John Lithgow and Randy Quaid--highly recommended), has done a great job deftly blending wry British humor with black comedy (very black, indeed) as well as romantic highjinks and some outright guffaws.
When you see sparrows blithely flying around a living room, part of a huge mansion in which the younger son rides his motor scooter on a regular basis and the older sister (one of the two parties involved in the revenge pact) changes her appearance in the blink of an artistocratic eye, you can tell there's a lot of fun to be had.
And there is. Highsmith's story has no comedy whatsoever, but Ayckbourn is a master of this mesh of comedy and biting stuff, and that comes across beautifully in this film version. The acting by the three leads (Sam Neill, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Helena Bonham Carter) is great, with the definite nod for scene stealer going to Ms. Carter, who seems capable of doing basically anything in front of a camera (see Fight Club and Twelfth Night for radically different and consistently excellent performances).
A very nice piece of work. Recommended!』
(An oh-so-black comedy) 『I purchased this because of the rave reviews on Amazon and because I loved Aykbourn's brilliant The Norman Conquests. But this film, while it has its moments, is a studiously black comedy that doesn't come off. It works too hard at being completely off the wall, and ultimately disappoints. It's just mayhem, designed to draw laughs. Well, it does, but only occasionally. (Imagine playing Count Basie at the expiration of a villain. That's Mel Brooks country.) Yes, Helena Bonham Carter is an excellent actress. But it's all so contrived, complete with a wink at the camera at the end. Save your money.』
(Strangers on a Bridge) 『As the story begins, Henry (Sam Neill) has lost his job to an unscrupulous co-worker, and has decided to end it all by jumping off Tower Bridge. There he meets eccentric Karen (Helena Bonham Carter) who has just bungled her own suicide attempt (her lover went back to his wife). They start talking about how much they wish their enemies were dead and Karen gleefully suggests they each do the job for the other. Henry assumes she's kidding, of course, but the next morning he finds Karen has gone ahead with the plan.
If you think this plot sounds a lot like Hitchcock's thriller, "Strangers on a Train," you're right. The difference is this one's played for big laughs with dark humor that I really enjoyed. Neill is very good as the innocent man who gets caught up in the wacky plot hatched by Bonham Carter's character. She steals the show with her outrageous cheekiness. Kristin Scott Thomas is the lover's haughty wife, and no one plays the disdainful aristocrat better than she does. Comic actor Steve Coogan is hysterical as Henry's nemesis. If you like British comedies, you'll love "Sweet Revenge;" it's fast, funny, and loaded with droll upper-class humor. Excellent!

(Some great moments, but ultimately lacking cohesion) 『I generally enjoy British comedies and prefer a good, thoughtful snicker over slapstick fun. When I watched this, I wanted to like it. And when I read the reviews after watching it, I'm really trying to like it. But I can't entirely agree with the other reviews...not because they're wrong, just my taste differs.
I feel like the movie had so many great elements (including as others have said some excellent acting) and could have been truly hilarious, but it just went a little off kilter somewhere and couldn't quite stay on track. Just as you warmed up to one element, something else would spoil the moment.
My initial reaction was "what a crazy movie!" Karen appears to be a complete maniac and Henry is extremely slow to catch on in some ways (i.e., he realizes Karen is quite dangerous from the start but doesn't seem to have any other way of dealing with her than really unitelligent honesty). The brother Oliver is great and there are a lot of small scenes that the film does quite well (when the kippers cause an embarassing stain, the way the young maid Norma is treated, etc).
But I disagree that Imogen was affected and arrogant. She responded to the view of Karen (her husband's former mistress) with the cold fury of someone attempting to maintain composure in the face of great strain. If a spouse brought me to an outing with their former "lover", I'd be pretty mad too. Her first comment to Henry is indicative of her frustration and she says it without thinking.
But how would anyone like Karen or Imogen find Anthony appealing? I found it farfetched how quickly Imogen fell for Henry and vice versa, upon their second meeting he tries to kiss her. And it seems unlikely that someone who suffered from frequent asthma would not carry their ventilator in their pocket (but maybe I am uninformed on this score).
Towards the end, it began lacking a feeling of cohesion and felt more like random funny moments appended to each other. The ending didn't feel like you arrived at a destination, more like it just stopped somewhere when we ran out of time and patched on a quick finish. Anyway, some people liked this so it's definitely got a following, just didn't appeal to me. Maybe it will grow on me in time.』 『Depressed businessman henry bell and aristocrat karen knightly save each others lives one night when they are ready to jump off londons tower bridge. Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 05/03/2005 Starring: Sam Neill Run time: 90 minutes Rating: Pg13 Director: Malcolm Mowbray』 『As Henry Bell (Sam Neill fromJurassic ParkandThe Piano) is preparing to throw himself off the Tower Bridge in London, he hears cries of help, which lead him to Karen Knightly (Helena Bonham Carter,Fight Club,Howard's End), who has just thrown herself off of the bridge and gotten her belt caught on a protuberance. In short time they're telling each other what led them to take this drastic step, how they'd each like to kill a certain person who has made each of their lives miserable. Karen hatches a plan: They'll each take on the other's act of revenge. Henry's not so sure about this, but when he wakes up the following morning Karen's plans are already underway. She's fiercely determined that he keep up his end of the bargain and ruin the life of Imogen (Kristin Scott Thomas,The English Patient,Four Weddings and a Funeral). Unfortunately, Henry falls in love with Imogen instead, leaving Karen with no choice but to enact revenge on Henry as well. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Perfect Family Fun!!!) 『When I bought a movie called 'The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things' I thought the Sprouse brothers did an awesome job as Jeremiah, and then I found out about this show. I started watching last week, and now I don't want to stop. I love it! I'm 19 and I watch kids shows, because I'm awesome! If you are new, I'll give you a brief synopsis; Zack and Cody Martin live with their mom at the Tipton hotel. Cody is the smart one. Zack is the one always making trouble. Mr. Moseby is the manager who must put up with their shenanigans. London is the dumb spoiled rich girl who is an heir to the hotel. Maddie is the hot blonde who works in the candy department and often helps with Zack, Cody, and London with their problems. I highly recommend THE SUITE LIFE OF ZACK AND CODY!!!』
(Not the best of the Suite Life!) 『I am a parent who watches the Suite Life of Zack and Cody with my daughter occasionally. I have seen enough episodes to know that these are not the best picks that Disney could have released on DVD.
The first episode has the boys at their youngest. The show is better in my opinion as the two boys get older. However, for a child, the battle of the bands idea is fun. London and Maddie are actually more intresting to watch in the earlier episodes, and it's always fun to see how London screws up even when she means well.
The second episode is when the boys run for class president. I liked the way Maddie and London get involved to help the boys. It was also nice to see Zack stand up for Cody at the end showing some family loyalty. I also liked the outrageous ideas that Zack and London came up with to get Zack elected. The pajama picture of Cody was a low blow but funny.
The last episode focuses on Maddie and London the most. Both girls throw sweet 16 parties for themselves on the same day. It forces the gang to pick which party to go to. As usual London over does it and makes a mess of things. The girls friendship gets strained, but ends up ok in the end.
Overall the episodes are just ok. I have seen better episodes on Disney channel. I also think Disney went cheap on this release. Three episodes is hardly worth the price of buying it. The extra features of the gag reel and Brenda Song doing the DVD game is ok. But personally I think Disney would have been better off putting a couple more episodes on the disc. After all thats why we really want to buy the DVD in the first place. Episodes that would have been better to add are the ones where the boys let the bugs loose in the tipton, or when Maddie and London have the fake baby for the weekend. Those stand out as funny episodes.
SO two stars is all I can give this release which skimped on the episodes and did'nt pick the best of the lot. If you really like Zack and Cody and want to get this release, try to by it online. Used and as cheap as possible. The taking over the Tipton release is better in my opinion and has more episodes.
』
(3 episodes, eh? LOL At least you won't be watching too long...2.3 stars.) 『...Cause this series is a terrible downer. The jokes are rarely funny and the show consists of shallowly-attractive celebrities who are rich somewhat spoiled and get their way nearly every time. None of them act that well, and London is the most spoiled, terrible actress that Disney has ever spat out at us. I totally despise her stupid, ditzy air-headed persona. It makes me sick, how stupid she has to act to get 10 year olds to laugh.
I didn't like the program when it first arrived on the Disney Channel over two and a half years ago, and I grew to loathe it, episode after episode after episode.
Watch Lizzy McGuire, Kim Possible, That's So Raven, or The Proud Family; they're much better, well-rounded Disney programs.
(The Best movie) 『This is a product that I recomend to the people who love disney channel, it has some behind the scened features, is funny once you see it.』
(old shows, and there's only 3!) 『This really is upsetting. The first dvd had several shows, I think maybe 5 of them. This one has only 3!! And, some of them are old ones, not the newer shows. My son and I were both disappointed. The silly "game" and the short little blooper spot do not make up for the stingy amount of actual tv shows. So sad. We're still big Suite Life fans, but I don't know if we'll buy another dvd.』 『Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 04/04/2008 Run time: 66 minutes』

Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore play well off each other, and the has-been angle (he's an 80's pop-star faded into obscurity) is fun. The song (Pop Goes My Love) is actually quite infectious, too. You'll find yourself humming it well after the movie is over.』
(Less than the best image quality) 『This is a great movie, but this DVD doesn't make the movie look its best on my 52 inch LCD. It is pixelated and grainy when upconverted. Playing it at 480p improves the image, but it doesn't compare to a lot of other DVDs that look flawless. If you have an HD TV and you love this movie, consider it in blu-ray (I assume it will look much better). I am a huge DVD fan, and I think they generally look wonderful on my big tv, so I was dissappointed with this one.』
(Romantic Comedy Masterpiece delivers ala it's title) 『What a treat for anyone who likes good romantic comedies. I'm amazed at how the critics dismissed this movie - the standard compaint is that it's predictable. Well in almost any romantic comedy, the end result is, of course, always predictable. But how the movie gets to that end result is what makes all the difference.
I call this movie a masterpiece because it completely delivers on what it's title promises: MUSIC and LYRICS. Almost all the songs in this movie are really good, and perfectly fit into the story of this movie. Most other movies would have just stuck any ole songs into here. If the songs had been second rate, this would have been a second rate film. Most of the killer songs were written by some guy named: Adam Schlesinger. If you check out his wiki page, he's had quite an impressive career writing, you guessed it: Music&Lyrics.
Particularly of note: what bonehead decided against releasing the closing number, "Way Back Into Love", as a single? "Way Back Into Love" was #1 in Hong Kong, #5 in Japan&Singapore, #11 in S. Korea.
Shame on the stupid producers for wasting even one second making that ridiculous pop Parody included with the extras. The time and money flushed down the sewer on that lame&useless venture should have been saved for the investors. Instead they should just have had the screenwriters&songwriters do an audio comentary on how this movie came about. Whoever made the decision to waste valuable resources on "Pop Goes My Heart", should be blacklisted in Hollywood, and never allowed to work in the industry again.』
(Sadly pretty lousy) 『The Bottom Line:
Another film to be added to my burgeoning list of films that peak before 10 minutes have elapsed, (e.g. America's Sweethearts, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) Music&Lyrics begins with a hilariously dead-on parody of 80s music videos but then devolves into a formulaic romance devoid of laughs or charms; I enjoy Hugh Grant a lot and wanted to like this movie, but couldn't find much to appreciate, let alone treasure.

(I'm Glad This Movie POPped into My Life!) 『80's POP sensation Alex Fletcher is comfortable being known as a 'has-been'; after all, the pressure is off now! He's no longer expected to produce anything and he can rest forever on his past achievements. Enter Sophie Fisher, the plant water-er and sometime lyricist. She accidentally reveals her talents to Alex as he tries to hammer out a new song for world-wide teenie-bopper sensation CORA (think Miley Cyrus in a thong). From here on, we can enjoy a typical Hugh Grant love story... a romantic comedy that does not disappoint, even for a few scenes.
Anyone who loves Hugh's romantic comedies, I'm thinking NOTTING HILL and TWO WEEKS NOTICE, will be thrilled with this additional installment of the Hugh Grant Love Connection.
Quirky, sexy, funny and oh-so-loveable, come on in and have some Hugh on me. You'll leave laughing.
Ellen C Maze, author Rabbit: Chasing Beth Rider (vampire fiction for the discerning reader)
P.S. CORA uses Buddhistic teachings in her songs and employs a gigantic Buddha statue in her stage show, so just letting you know.
』 『Music and Lyricsis frothy and sweet, like the top of a perfect cappuccino shareda deux. Hugh Grant is a self-professed "happy has-been," playing his befuddled, adorable persona more spot-on than he has sinceFour Weddings and a Funeral. As Alex, former member of an '80s pop band who years later is playing at water parks and high school reunions, he's settled into a life of lesser expectations. Drew Barrymore, quietly radiant, is Sophie, the underachieving girl Friday who arrives to water--make thatoverwater--Alex's plants--and to explode him out of that comfy rut. If the plot's a bit farfetched, it matters not, since the two lead characters are so likable--and make such beautiful music together. Big bonus: the supportive role of Kristen Johnston as Rhonda, Sophie's older sis (and longtime Alex fan) whose hilarious performance threatens to steal the show whenever she's onscreen. (The owner of a chain of successful weight-loss centers, Rhonda tries to comfort a rattled Sophie: "Want to do some stress eating?") The film also marks the remarkable debut of Haley Bennett, who plays a pop star of Britney/Cristina proportions with deadpan sincerity radiating through her skimpy outfits and mega-extensions. As Alex and Sophie work on crafting musical magic, something else is taking hold. It's music to the ears of anyone needing a sweet romantic comedy that hits all the right notes.--A.T. (Choking hazzard!!!!) 『be very careful with this product. I gave it to my 11.5 month old and she choked instantly! 3 pieces broke off in her mouth right away and I had to sweep them out of her mouth. Unfortunately, she still choked and threw up. :(』

She quickly broke off nearly half the bar in her mouth. She is now 10mo old, and we still have the same issue. We cannot offer these to her any longer. Too bad. the ingredients are excellent. We don't have this issue with others such as Gerber and BeechNut.』
(Choking Hazard - Beware) 『My 10 month old has two teeth coming in on top and three on the bottom. He eats cheerios, gerber puffs, soft cooked vegetables and ripe fruit with very little problem. I tried the Earth's Best barley biscuits because he is prone to food allergies and I wanted to avoid wheat. Every time I gave him one of these biscuits (3 times) he was able to bite off too big a piece and gagged, not to the point of actually choking, but enough to send me into a panic watching him struggle and turn red. They don't seem to dissolve in his mouth fast enough. On the upside they taste good without being overly sweet. I think they are better suited for a little older babies who have more teeth and have really mastered chewing. (Great little chair for my one year old...) 『My daughter loves the chair...for some reason the green one was on sale for way cheap - so I added some flower embellishment to help "girl" it up. It is a nice soft suede (faux? I don't know for sure - I couldn't find it on the box) I don't know if I would have paid 6o bucks for the chair though...I got it for a steal at nearly half that on here. Best of all, it's made in the U.S.A.!』
(Very nice, but be careful...) 『My 18 month-old loves her P'Kolino Silly Soft Seating in Kiko - Red, and has shown an interest in sitting on grown-up furniture, so this seemed like a natural purchase. In fact, between deciding on whether or not to get the Little Reader chair and actually buying one, she discovered the chair on her own at a local children's museum.
The very first thing I noticed when my box arrived, was that this product is made in the United States. I'm not irrationally against items that are imported, but I thought it was really nice to see a domestic product for a change.
My daughter went straight for the chair as soon as I had it out of its plastic... and jumped on it. And jumped, and jumped, and... whoops! Luckily, I was there to catch her. It's important to understand that this is really just a nice cover over a block of foam. It's deceivingly light, and although it doesn't tip easily from side to side, it does tip backwards easily if you don't have the back against a wall or heavy object.
As long as you're keeping an eye on your child when using the chair (if they have the inclination to be bouncy), this chair is great.

(Great for decorating, horrible for recipes) 『Cookie books abound in veritable droves, yet... even in the "advance copy" form that I received to review, //Cookie Craft Christmas// stands out. So often, baking/decorating books have either too few pictures or harbor overly complicated directions. The large-size font and simple directions pair well with the bevy of full-page photographs, taken on eye-pleasing and homey backgrounds, such as one would have in one's own kitchen. Comfort abounds in the recipes themselves, as the results pictured are attainable, even with several children "helping." As a nod to the upcoming holiday season, there are cookie greeting cards, delightfully decorated with flourishes both artful and elegant. Some pages feature one gloriously decorated cookie, while others might feature two or three interpretations of the same shapeâ ornaments in complementary colors, Christmas trees decorated in varying styles, or gingerbread men wearing a rainbow of colors and patterns.
Decorating instructions are as simple as tinting cookie dough green before baking Christmas trees or as intricate as piping hair on a gingerbread grandma, creating a frilly pattern for her apron, and decorating her dress using a pretty feathering technique. As an adult, Sanchez turned family tradition into her livelihood, opening Sweet Maria's bakery in Waterbury, Connecticut, where she re-created the cakes and cookies of her youth--but with a distinctly American twist. WithSweet Maria's Italian Cookie Tray, Sanchez offers her culinary treasures to an even wider audience; recipes range from drop and molded cookies to filled ones, biscotti and biscuits, taralle and pizelles, and many more. They opened a bakery in Chiang Mai and when I visited last yearI brought my copy which they use. I bought this as a replacement because I think so highly of this book and all of Flo Braker's works.』
(More pictures) 『More pictures would have made this book great. Reading the recipes are one thing, but seeing how they are supposed to look as a final result would have been so helpful. I will be more reluctant to try many of the recipes because there were no pictures.』
(Ausie Baker) 『You can see this is a lady that knows her stuff. I can recommend this book wholeheartedly. In today's market where everything is about doing something quickly, this is about doing something properly. I have learnt more from this book than 50 others. If you want to make little babycakes. you have to own it.』
(Christmas Desserts) 『Book covered the subject indicated in the index section on my preview before placing the order. However, I still cannot find in this book or any others purchased or reviewed a receipe for my grand-mother's Italian "cookies" or pastry she always prepared for her grandchildren during the Christmas Holidays. I know that it contained figs, currants, raisons and either pecans or walnuts all ground-up and inserted into a pastry shell like ravioli or cannoli before baked, then frosted. I and my sisters all remember eating the pastry but no one could find a receipe for this in all her kitchen belongs after she passed away. She always called it "cuccithaida"....but we guessed on the spelling of that Italian name she called that "cookie" when she served them. We are all Italian-Americans born and raised in the U.S., but our father did not know anything about his mother's cooking; just liked to eat the sweets too!
Maybe someone in Amazon can locate this better than me. All of my ancestry came from Sicily when they immigrated to the US back in the early 1900s.』
(Highly recommended!) 『This is one of my favorite dessert books! The desserts not only look beautiful but are always the first to be "gobbled" up by my family and friends! Recipes are instructional and easy to follow making the most intimidating tasks easy and practically effortless. I wish that it had a few more photographs, but it does have photos of the more popular dishes.
I have found myself purchasing this book over and over for friends and family who enjoy baking. If you enjoy baking desserts, this book is a must for your kitchen!』 『InSweet MiniaturesFlo Braker proves that it is a small world after all.
