So far these have worked well. Stoppers go easily into the bottles. Just have to pull the vacuum handle several times until you here a clicking. Not difficult to pull handle. Also when ready to reuse, just need to press the upper 'stem' on the stopper sideways, vacuum seal is broken and stopper comes out easily. So far working well. People at the winery said you could not use this method for 'sparkling' beverages (champagne) as the vacuum would remove the CO2 (sparkle) - so have not tried with champagne.』
(You can create a vacuum with a hand pump) 『While I don't own this item (I have added it to my Christmas list), I would like to dispel a myth that has appeared in some of the reviews.
As a mechanical engineer who has designed vacuum chambers for over 16 years, I can tell you with great certainty that you can create a vacuum with a hand pump.
Technically, a vacuum is any pressure below atmosphere. If you can remove one molecule of gas with this hand pump you have created a vacuum. If you hear or feel air rush into the bottle when you remove the cork, you have created a vacuum.
The more relevant question is how strong of a vacuum can you create?
Since vacuum is simply a pressure (force/area) less than atmosphere, you can measure the "strength" of the vacuum by comparing the force differential across the pump. Atmospheric pressure at sea level is around 14.7 lb/in^2. If the area of the pump's piston is 1 in^2, you could create a complete vacuum with 14.7 pounds of force. In other words, you could create a complete vacuum with half the force needed to put air in your car's tire. The application of force to this pump is not the limiting factor in creating a vacuum.
The limiting factor will likely be the vapor pressure of the wine.
Due to the kinetics of the molecules in the liquid, there are always some molecules of wine that are ejected from the surface of the liquid. The rate at which these molecules are ejected is a function of temperature. If all the air molecules were removed from the bottle, a vapor would be created in the head space at the vapor pressure of the liquid.
Presuming that the wine was composed exclusively of ethanol and water, its vapor pressure would be around 53 torr or 1/14th of an atmosphere ([...]). The pressure in the wine bottle cannot be reduced below this point as long as liquid remains in the bottle.
A wine bottle opening is typically 18 mm, so a force of 5 pounds would be sufficient to remove all the air from the headspace. It should be noted that air may have diffused into the wine and predicting its extraction is complicated by a time element and potential chemical reactions between the wine and the oxygen. It should also be noted that mixing between the wine vapor and the air in the head space would likely result in some wine vapor being extracted during the pumping process, reducing the amount of air extracted proportionally. This effect would likely produce a first order response that may make it impossible to completely remove all air while wine vapor remains.
I don't how good the seals are on the Vacu Vin, but if it feels like you have to pull with about five pounds of force, you are getting a pretty strong vacuum. Less than 1 pound of force would produce a pretty weak vacuum that would leave more than 80% of the air in the bottle.

Review: This is a great little vacuum. I've only had it for a few weeks so I can't really speak to it's longevity but it suits my needs. I live in a townhouse with a lot of wood floors and rugs and it's cut my cleaning time to 1/3. No more dragging out the broom and dust pan and then dragging the vacuum cleaner up 3 levels. This little vac is portable, cordless and easy to use.
Only 2 cons that come to mind:
1. Emptying out the container can get a little messy. I find that even shaking it over trash can doesn't get everything out so you have to get your fingers a little bit dirty when you're pulling out the filter and what not, but once they are out, the filters is very easy to clean (a little soap and water and let dry).
2. Reading the directions it makes it seem like the charge on the stick vac is only good for 20-30 minutes so if you have a big house then you might want to keep that in mind. I was able to do 2 levels in my townhouse in less than 20 minutes and the charge still seemed strong.
Anyway, it works for me but I can see why it wouldn't be great for every household.』

I have to admit, I had a very small "Ionic Breez"Air-purifier and it work fine. But This product is worth EVERY Penny of it! So easy to set up and boy I breath so well at night. I had a bad cold just last week, I feel that this air-purifier really helped me to over come my flu faster! I got one for my living room and one for my bedroom! What I love about it: 1. Has 4 seeped (Quiet, Med. High,and Turbo). I used Turbo during my cooking and it really works fast to get rid of the onion and garlic smell in the house! Please note that Turbo is loud so if you set on turbo make sure you are not watching anything on TV. Quiet mode is really quiet. 2. BREEZE to clean! NOTE: during the use you will hear "sparky" noise, please don't be scare, this is normal and it means some of the dusts got into the machine and it is working. It is not a noise that you hear on a regular bases. I noticed it last night and remembered that I have not vacuum my house for now a week! You will notice amazingly LESS dust around the house! 3. Its Stand alone and you can put it anywhere! Some air-purifier should not be close to TV or other electronic equipment, but not this one. I have it set not that far from my TV and it works perfect :-) 4. The quality of AIR is so amazing, I have neighbors that smoke and unfortunately the smell comes to my house sometimes, but since I set this in my living room, i don't have any issues with smell! 5. The filter is so easy to clean and you don't have to buy anything if you don't want to. They offer the odder remover filter (which you do have to replace once a year). But note that it works without it and the main filter is a permanent one.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT : The only thing that I really was uncomfortable with at first, was its PRICE. Yes, it is very pricey but keep that in mind you are paying for a very high quality item. But I really LOVE this air-purifier! It is THE BEST Purchase that I have ever made! If you can BUY it! You all know that AMAZON.COM are awesome to back their items up. If you buy it from Oreck website, they give you 30 days timeline to return it! But believe me You won't!

These Woodstock International blast gates are identical to the ones I began using over 20 years ago. This same blast gate is sold by countless vendors; Jet is just one of many.
They are inexpensive and work acceptably, although they leak a little air when closed.
They have three parts, the two halves (glued together) with the movable gate in the middle. The two halves on all of my Woodstock gates eventually came unglued. Some lasted a couple of years, and one lasted at least a decade before separating. Rather than replace them, I repaired each gate using pop-rivets or 8-32 machine screws&nuts to hold the halves together. Except for this issue, none of my plastic blast gates ever "broke".
The gate's ABS plastic body is smooth and each male side is slightly tapered. Because of that taper, a clamped-on air hose tends to slip off, unless screws or other methods are used, to keep it attached. See Customer Images. It would have made sense to taper maybe the first 1/4" so it slides into a duct or hose, but tapering the entire male fitting end was not a great idea.
I have a blast gate for the table saw, sliding compound miter saw, planer, sander, band saw, jointer, and drill press. Unlike other reviewers though, none of my Woodstock blast gate has EVER filled up with dust or debris to the point that it stopped working or needed cleaning. Perhaps that's because the dust collector is a 3-hp 1800 cubic feet minute unit; and the air moves so fast, it doesn't have a chance to clog a blast gate? Also, the grooves in a blast gate are more likely to clog if the gate handle faces down.
I rate them at two stars, since a customer shouldn't have to repair a product to keep it working, and the tapered male ends allow hoses to slip off.』

(Plastic junk) 『Blastgates require periodic cleaning. Problem: chips collect in the two channels where the gate slides and as you close the gate, the chips get packed into the channels and the gate won't fully close. The metal version blastgate has screws and disassembles for cleaning. These plastic gates must be broken at the welds. Then what? Don't waste your money and time on these cheap plastic gates. For a few dollars more, the metal blastgates are well worth it as they are assembled with screws.』
(Works great as a connection point for tools) 『I have blast gates permanently mounted on my saws, and use the Jet quick-disconnect fittings and flex hose to connect the tools to the dust collector. Works great. Can't comment on the gate plugging as I never close it.』
(It broke) 『I purchased three of the plastic blast gates. I put one in line to my TS to see how it worked. It pulled apart pretty quickly as I moved the TS. This is an inexpensive product but I did expect it to be stronger.
Secondly, I replaced the gate and the slide would not stay up. I had to turn it sideways to keep it from closing by itself.

(Looks like a "must have" for a Rotozip) 『I have only used this a couple of times but when I first got it I tried using the Rotozip without it and then with it.. The difference in dust laying around afterwards is astounding!! Even with my wimpy 30 yr old Shopvac. I am thinking of getting an extra 1-1/4" hose and adapting it to fit my 2-1/2" vac for this, should be no dust at all with that monster sucking into it. The other things I liked about it is that it replaces the foot that comes with the Rotozip and is clear plastic which provides much better visibility of the cut. The depth adjustments are also easier to make with two wing nuts on the side and calibrations molded into the body. Also, even without a vac attached it diverts most of the dirt out the vac pickup and away from your face. I only gave it 4 stars because I haven't used it enough to really wring it out. Initial impression is that it certainly has the potential for 5 stars.』
