Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Those bags are the best ever made by Miele) 『I can't tell you how fast you can finish vacuuming using this new design bag, no odors, no missing dirt or hairs anymore, what a difference, used to take me over 1 hour to go through the whole house now it takes me less then 15 minutes, the suction is greatly improved, my kid's room has a very thick rug, some of the dust would stick to it... normally I would have to go over and over the rug with my vacuum cleaner, to get the visual dust of the rug, sometimes I would have to get down on all four to get some of that dust by hand... not anymore ...what a difference a simply good design has made. Before that I was thinking of getting a new vacuum cleaner with a greater power, guess what, not a chance...Buy those bags and save plenty of time to get the job done right...and instead of HEPA filter I use the one for odor control Miele Active Air Clean Filter (For Odor Control) - S300/S400/S500 Series ...very pleased』
(I'm happy using generic FJM bags (from Amazon), 5 for $10!) 『I just love my two Miele cannister vacuums, they're great. We live on all tile floors with 10 dogs and a few cats, so everyday I vacuum up a ton of animal hair, and I go through vacuum bags quite frequently. I'm not paying $19 for four bags, that's ridiculous! I e-mailed Miele, they told me about how much better filtration the new bags afforded. I explained that filtration quality means nothing when cleaning very coarse animal hair. I'm not living in a "clean Room" at Intel!
I noticed that Bosch has also raised their cannister bag prices, so maybe it's a German thing. I started buying generic "FJM" 5 bags for $10 from Amazon, which work just fine. These cheap bags have a cardboard connection at top, instead of plastic, but doesn't matter. So I'm happy now. I'm not paying $5 per Miele bag! (Miele vacuum bags) 『I purchased 2 boxes of FJM vacuum bags which should have contained 5 bags each. However, I received the newer bags that are now made and contain only 4 bags. The picture on Amazon clearly showed the box that contained the 5 bags. I called the seller and explained this to him and he said he has been trying to clear this problem up, but Amazon has not corrected it as of yet. He was so nice that he sent me the extra 2 bags that I had expected to get. I hope for his sake correction is made soon.』
(Miele bags) 『Much better price than from my local retailer who always seems to be out of stock.』

Would do business with this vendor again.』 『Miele new HyClean FJM Bags provide superior dust and particle retention with its 9 layers of filtration. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Handles large recipes well) 『I received this mixer as a gift after my SunBeam MixMaster died trying to mix a doubled sugar cookie recipe. The first recipe I tried with this mixer called for 4 1/2 cups of flour as its first ingredient! The recipe said to mix in as much of the flour mixture as possible with the mixer and mix in any remaining flour by hand, but this mixer handled it with ease. I've since been able to double recipes with no problem; something I wasn't able to do previously. I am very satisfied with this product.』
(Waited a long time to have this) 『I am so happy to finally have a Kitchen Aid and this one is a very pretty periwinkle/cornflower blue color』
(Cant do without this) 『As a baker I can honestly say that this is the one product in my kitchen I could not live without. Very quality design and easy to clean. Everyone knows about this so I would go nuts describing. But to all you new bakers out there just buy it.....you wont regret.』
(Mixer) 『It is on the counter so that it is available all the time. I am the hubby and I don't have to go in to finish mixing by hand for the wifey. It does an awewome job. Amazon delivery was much better than promised, almost spoiled my XMAX surprise. Removable parts are easy to clean, so you aren't afraid to use it. It does an excellent job on mixes, like bread and cookie dough.』

Thank you so much.』 『Retro styled and easy to use, the KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer is the perfect kitchen companion. This fits the bill as an upright and performs well. The vacuum hose is so short that it's a joke. I tried to use the attachments once and its a waste of time. In addition, dirt was exhausted from the storage port for the hose. Unbelieveable! The handle is nothing but a cheap piece of molded plastic. The electical cord is attached to the middle of the machine, as is the on/off switch. This results in a lot of stooping to turn the cleaner on or off and you must hold the cord, else you will step on it. The vacuum has 3 filters, two of which can be cleaned with soap and water. After a month the HEPA filter shows no accumulation and will not need replacement for a long time. The filtering system is efficient - there is no evidence that any dirt is returned to the room. Since everything that is sucked up is visible frequent emptying and filter cleaned is encouraged. A good thing. Bottom line --- works well as an upright. A decent value for the money.』
(Returning vacuum) 『The tip of the philips screw was broken off before it was packaged in celophane and sealed. The crevice tool was not included and neither was the extension tool. Vacuum had good suction. It is lightweight. I found the handle uncomfortable to hold and the standing height of the machine uncomfortably short. I am 5'5" so not sure how someone taller would use. I have some arthritis in my hand which is usually not a problem in performing tasks. However this handle left my hand hurting after very brief use. Overall I was disappointed given the many reviews praising machine and thought the quality lower than my previous Hoovers. Returned item and will not purchase brand again.』
(THIS VACUUM SUCKS !!!!! REALLY SUCKS ALL THE DIRT AND DUST !!!!!) 『Great vacuum sucks everything in its way. I have three times more expensive vacuum for my first floor and I bought this much cheaper vacuum for my second floor, and to be honest with you I find no difference in sucking power both of them are 12 amp., almost same weight and same noise level. I am happy I purchased Bissell hopefully it last atleast couple of years.』
(good for the price) 『The pluses are the price is right, it's lightweight, and easy to assemble. The suction is OK, but not the best I've seen in a vacuum. Its very easy to empty. It seems better at picking up lightweight items like hair and dust. It seems to have trouble picking up heavy things like coins and nails. If the suction was stronger I would have given it 5 stars. This is my first bagless unit and I'm mostly pleased as it was the least expensive unit available.』
(Great vacuum for the money) 『My wife and I have both used this vacuum and have no complaints. It's light weight, manuverable, and easy to use. The hose and attachments work well, are easy to use, and stay put. It's very easy to clean and put back together. It's very quiet and we can vacuum our entire house without emptying it, there's also no loss of suction. This is our first bagless vacuum. We are still not used to cleaning it after each time we use it. If you compare its performance to a bagless, we can get used to this very minor inconvenience.』 『New Helix separation system filters dirt and debris and protects the motor and fan. (Decent Blower/Vac) 『The only bad thing that I can say is that this is my second one. When we got the original one out this year, it would not start, it appears that the switch is bad. Since leaves were piling up fast, I came here and ordered a new one. The shipping was quick, I was back at the leaves 2 days later. I have the optional trashcan attachment, it really makes vaccing up leaves less of a hassle.』
(poor quality) 『They are good for two uses tops. My first one burt up a motor in 15 minutes. The second made it to the second chore before the motor burnt up again.』
(Excellent tool for the money) 『Although my BV2500 has developed the major problem cited in many reviews,it took more than 10 years of high volume leaf vacuuming before it failed. Had 1/2 acre with many trees (60 plus) now have 1/3 acre with several. It did as good a job as any homeowner line of tools could be expected to. No tears in the shoulder bag although 99% of the time I use the leaf collection system and no noticable impeller wear (of course I didn't try to vacuum any items that it wasn't intended for (rocks large twigs etc.), Silly old me, I try to use a tool for what it is intended (leaves). Will I buy another? You bet I just ordered one today, and if it only lasts several years I'm still way ahead, at $54.00 Amazon) no tax and free delivery. Use it for what it is and take care of it as you would all your other tools. 』
(Mulching? What mulching?) 『Earlier reviews complained about difficulty in finding a button for mulching. I guess they were right; I couldn't find one. The instructions just say the leaves will be mulched as they go through the impeller. After vacuuming a bunch of leaves and dumping them into a recycle bin, I couldn't really see any evidence of mulching. The blower and vacuum work very well, however. Don't make the mistake of trying to vacuum leaves from loose dirt; you'll suck up a lot of dirt. Blow the leaves into a pile and then vacuum them. Still, I like this tool. It's much quieter and easier to use than my gas blower.』 『With the Black&Decker Leaf Hog, you can clean up both the deck and the lawn with one reasonably priced and easy-to-maintain machine. This blower/vac is electric, so it requires an extension cord and an electric outlet to run, but there's nothing else to set up or maintain. The 12 amp motor has considerable power for its size, more than enough to clear driveways or decks or blow off sections of lawn. At just over 7 pounds, the Leaf Hog is light enough to use for long periods of time, and it's also quiet enough to use at any time of day. Switching from blowing to vacuuming is a snap--literally. The correct button took us a moment to find, but once you've located it, you simply depress it and remove the blowing unit, then attach the vacuum extension in its place. The extension has a bag for mulch, which attaches with a small clasp. When vacuuming, the unit mulches by sucking leaves through the fan assembly. Though this model, with its patented Vortex anticlog vacuum system, does a better job of remaining unclogged than most, you still need to be careful to avoid rocks and sticks. It also has a variable-speed control that lets you choose between 150 and 200 mph blower speed.』 『Powerful, efficient, and easy-to-use, this three-in-one blower, vacuum, and mulcher helps clear off your yard, patio, deck, and walkways--even wet leaves and twigs are no match for this heavy-duty tool. Operation is simple: to switch from blowing to vacuum mode, just press the push-button. And you'll never have to worry about clogs slowing you down, thanks to the vacuum's Vortex system. Additionally, the BV2500 condenses 10 bags of raked leaves into just one bag of mulched leaves and works quietly, making yard work more pleasant. For added peace of mind, it comes with a 2-year warranty.』

(Good bags) 『They're vacuum bags. I can't say I've found a vacuum bag that is really bad or anything, but I suppose if it didn't fit nicely in the vacuum or something, maybe I'd rate it lower. These fit nicely in the vacuum models that are made to use them.
They could possibly be a little bigger since, without a bag, the vacuum actually has quite a lot more space in which it could store stuff you're sucking up. I don't think I'll count that against the bag, though. The bag makes it nice and easy to clean, though, so it's preferable to use the bag.
Note that if you suck up anything damp in these you'll want to throw them out rather than let them sit in the closet. We cleaned out our dryer and there was a bit of slightly damp lint we sucked up. Stuck the Shop Vac in the closet and a couple months later it was sort of a moldy nightmare. Not a fault of the bags, just an FYI for users. They're unlined paper bags, so on damp materials your mileage may vary.』
(Did some on-line comparison shopping and best value) 『What's to say: we have the vac, need bags and want the best value (since we use a lot of them). Here they are, so we bought 6 packs this time and will be back for more.』

since i had 2" pvc piping on hand, i cut a 4"length, then sawed out a 1/4" kerf/slotlengthwise..that lets it flex enough to fit inside the toolport and this adapter, nice and TIGHT. can also use tape for a perfect Tight fit... i may also try fitting the pvc on the OUTside next, since this shrinks the I.D and decreases airflow, marginally i guess...but it fits Extra-securely now,so it's kind of a bonus !』

(Good as a connector for vacuum hose) 『This adapter works great for what it is designed for. It is only for changing 4 inch hose to 2 1/2 hose. Not designed to connect directly to a tool or shop vacuums. Usually the 2 1/2 inch hose will connect to the tool.』
(Don't trust the four inch size, get exact ID and OD size) 『As another reviewer said..... this is the exact same size as the tool port I have.... it is NOT four inches, but slightly less. If it were exactly four inches, it would have worked.... if it were funnel shaped, it would have worked, but it's the exact same size as my dust port. it will not fit over , or inside my dust port. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Neat features squandered by an ineffective vacuum) 『I (as I'm sure several others) bought this with the mindset that my days of shelling out cash on a consistent basis for keyboard air-clearners were soon numbered. Sadly, it appears that I was a tad too hasty in my assumptions. For one, let me just start off by stating that the features the Connectland USB Mini Vacuum harness are fairly neat for the most part. It contains a retractable USB cablewheel, retractable brush, led-light mechanic (to help easier locate dust on the keyboard/notebook) and turbo mode switch (for higher vacuum efficiency). The problem here is that all of these gadgets are pretty much wasted on a useless vacuum (the core for using the entire thing).
The vacuum hardly picks up any dust at all. Even in turbo-mode (which you must have it's button pressed down the entire time during use) the vacuum appeared to excrete more air than it should have absorbed dust. I actually experimented the vacuum on a tiny strand of hair (on a flat surface) and it could hardly even pick it up. When the retractable brush is doing a more robust job of removing dust from the keyboard than the actual vacuum itself, then you know there are definitely some issues.
In summation, the Connectland USB Mini Vacuum could have been an instant recommendation at it's price (with it's nifty features). However, since it's vacuum hardly picks up any dust at all, I'd suggest skipping over this one and simply invest in a keyboard air-cleaner instead (or continue searching for a better mini vacuum). Since this just didn't cut it.』 『Here's a great little portable vacuum for maintaining your laptop PC on the road. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not brand name as advertised) 『These bags are OK. But they are not as advertised. The page about these bags on Amazon says they are "Sharp EC10PU" but in fact the bags I received from B&M Housewares after ordering from this Amazon page, were a brand I never heard of called "Micro Lined" and the bag says they are "designed to fit Sharp models using bag type PU-2." So a more honest listing for this item should say they are generic or should state their true brand, or should say they are designed to fit Sharp. It should not misleadingly say they are Sharp bags.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (I bought it, and used it....) 『Believe everyone who advised you to get your case open before buying the replacement insert. I nearly broke off the clip while I was chipping away at the glued shut case. *TIPS* The ends are the hardest part to pry open because they are glued on a ledge you cannot tap open because of the clips and metal heat sensor. Use a sharp razor blade (like from a paint scraper) rather than a screwdriver, much easier. I installed the battery and my roomba still does not work, but I found a website that has a complete tear down [...], with the parts labeled so there is still hope. I also found a diagnostic you can run before the purchase of a new battery[...], which I haven't tried yet because your machine has to be charged to run the diagnostic tests. I hope this helps, my rating is in the middle because I don't yet know if the product works, but it was easy to install, arrived quickly, and had all the parts as promised.』
(Short Life!) 『This battery does not have the 1000 recharge cycles as claimed! I have had it installed for less than 4 months, running twice a week, so about 32 cycles so far. The battery pack currently runs my roomba for 15 minutes before it heads back to the charger. As soon as it starts, the battery power indicator is already orange-red. Very poor performance for a replacement battery. Installation was not a problem, but as noted by other reviews, it does not fit easily into original battery case. You get what you pay for!』
(Excellent replacement) 『It was a life saver to read all the previous purchasers and their stories. I was ready for the hassle of replacing non-user replaceable part. That readiness was sure needed as I wiggled a big knife through the glued up battery casing.
I am happy with the result. iRobot is an excellent product and they didn't use cheapest possible battery for their Roomba but this Tenergy batteries are one of the latest and it does hold the juice very well. Now I have my casing glue removed, I can forever keep my Roomba going. I love you iRobot! I hope you do more! My next lawn mower has to be from iRobot.』
(big pain no gain) 『I, like some of the other reviewers, only got about 10 uses out of this battery before it quit holding a charge. By this I mean, it runs for 1 second and sings "come and find me"... which isn't as fun as usual because he will still be sitting at your feet. I used the roomba's service mode to run the wheels continuously to drain the battery down to zero. After a long day-long charge, it again rain for 1 second and stopped. No gain. Sad roomba.
The pain part is that it took forever to crack open my old APS battery as mine was very thoroughly sealed shut. I would recommend trying to open your battery before buying a kit like this to make sure you have one that is easy to open. Once open, the new battery kit does not fit quite right and required some force to get it in the old battery case. Then the new wires do not come with friction fittings or any other kind of connector.. just bare wires requiring soldering skills.. and a soldering iron.
Spend the extra $$ and get an irobot NiCD battery.. roomba just may not be compatible with the NiMH or I received a defective product. 2 stars if all you need is the triangular screwdriver and a blue and red doorstop.』
(same issues - short product life) 『this worked amazing for about 6 months of light use - it would run and run and run. too bad that a few weeks ago, the run time went from 1.5 hour + to only about 10 minutes. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great Concept, not overly durable) 『Grandma bought this as a present for our two boys, one of who is a vacuuming-mad toddler. The cool things about this: first, it's a cannister toy vac, not an upright, virtually the only one on the market. It really works, picking up light dust and debris. In theory, the suction-cup retractable cord and attachments compartment are really cool. It makes a noise but is not overly loud, just a low suction hum when it's on.
There were a couple of issues in practice. One was the flexible hose, which is made of lower quality plastic and rumpled early on. The plastic stiff parts of the hose assembly broke pretty quickly under the usual play stresses. The retractor on the top broke almost right away, and even for older children the cord seemed potentially hazardous. Second were the "ornamental only" switches -- the on-off button is actually on the side above the dust collection compartment, and the green and red switches on top don't move and don't do anything. I understand the working parts are all on the bottom of this vacuum, but my little guy in particular gets quite frustrated at what are apparently buttons but which are "stuck" (non-functional). I'd suggest when this toy is redesigned the non-functioning buttons be removed, and instead the actual on-off switch be made more obvious. Finally, the dust collection compartment is too hard for little people to get out on their own -- perhaps this is by design?
My boys still both like this toy a lot, and despite some of the flaws I'd still recommend it, particularly if you have a cannister vac at home and the kids want one just like dad and mom's.』
(Mr. Smoky) 『My husband and I were so excited to give this toy to our son, who is completely infatuated with my vacuum cleaner. This appeared to be one of the only toy canister vacs available, so we ordered it. When we got it, we immediately opened it up, put the batteries in, and turned it on. Nothing. So we looked at the instructions, even though it seemed pretty obvious how to make it work. We checked that the batteries were in correctly. Still nothing. Then, suddenly, we noticed that the debris collection box was smoking! There was a terrible burnt smell, and we rushed the toy outside because we feared it would burn up or explode! The toy we recieved did not work and was obviously a safety hazard for children. I assume and hope that this was an unusual circumstance, and that other Mr Henry toy vacumms work fine; however, after this experience, we were unwilling to try another of this toy. We ended up finding a cleaning trolley at Toys R Us that includes a cute canister vacuum that even comes with different attachments! This whole set was slightly less expensive than the Mr. Henry vacuum we had ordered, and it didn't start burning up before our eyes. My husband and I now refer to the Mr. Henry toy as "Mr. Smoky." The good news is that Diana Toy Store gave us a complete refund and paid for the return shipping.』
(Mr. Henry - A lot of fun) 『I bought this for my little guy who has a vacuum obsession right now. This product is pretty much as advertised. The vacuum actually works as advertised and (Good and bad) has very light/low suction. My main worry buying this was that the suction would be high enough that if he (my son) put it on his eye, and it formed a seal, that it would hurt him. No worries there. The vacuum will actually suck up tiny Styrofoam beads, but nothing more than that. The vacuum doesn't actually come with the aforementioned tiny Styrofoam beads, probably because they would be dangerous. : P
Not too noisy, not to flimsy, made my son happy... nice product. 』 『This cute scaled down version of the ever popular HENRY vacuum cleaner includes the famous Henry eyes and smile. IT REALLY WORKS!! This is the clearest explanation of the Void, the so-called vacuum of empty space, that I have read. He shows very clearly how physicists came to understand the vacuum of space, which is really a quantum plenum. Well-written and clear (for the most part), this small volume is worth the price and the reading.』
(Avoidance) 『Ok, enough of the bad puns!
But as the other reviewers noted, the book strayed markedly from the promise of exploring the meaning of the Void, that is, "existence" before the Big Bang and the creation of the Universe and all its physical machinations and manfestations. I kept waiting for the expostion to come, some theory, and instead page after page of sometimes complicated and incomprehensible science theorms.
Ultimately, the author avoided the premise, perhaps because there is no answer to that Cosmic query known to mankind.』
(Good science, quick gloss, not quite what the title implies) 『This little book covers a LOT of science in a pretty short amount of time. Another reviewer said that it deals rather less with the void than one might think from the title. While this is true, there isn't much that can be said about nothing without understanding that in the real universe, nothing is truly something after all. That said, there is a lot of explaining of "stuff" to get to explaining nothing, which leads the book to have a lot less nothing than you might expect.
That said, the science is very solid and quite clearly explained. However, having extensively studied physics and chemistry years ago, this read more like a refresher course to me. I didn't have too much trouble making sense of most of the science because I have been exposed to it in great depth (even though I may've forgotten some things). I worry that to the lay reader, the book would be extremely hard going, even as there are many analogies drawn, so I would put it closer to three stars for a reader with little or no science background.
Still, written well overall and with great clarity. An interesting concept.』
(A-voids getting to the point) 『While a very well written book, The Void spends most of its 156 pages not getting to the point. But then the title is misleading -- this is not about voids or vacuums or the idea of nothingness. Instead, Close writes a summary, fairly historical, of the theories contributing to the current views of the universe. We hear a lot about Newton and Einstein, Lorentz and Michelson, and so on. Special and general relativity are explained again (as they have been in myriad other books). Something as important as the Higgs field is glossed over, while such things as inertial frames of reference or concepts of curved space-time are covered in a tad too much depth or too much repetition. This is really a book for someone who needs a quick overview, rather like it is the introductory chapter to a text with a lot more depth. And from my perspective, it seems to ramble here and there, as if the author doesn't quite want to make a point. Even at the end, the summary shows that the book was not about the void or vacuum but about what fills it and defines its boundaries/properties. Not quite what I was looking for.』

What remains when you take all the matter away? Can empty Space--nothing--exist? To answer these questions, eminent scientist Frank Close takes us on a lively and accessible journey that ranges from ancient ideas and cultural superstitions to the frontiers of current research, illuminating the story of how scientists have explored the void and the rich discoveries they have made there. Readers will find an enlightening history of the vacuum: how the efforts to make a better vacuum led to the discovery of the electron; the understanding that the vacuum is filled with fields; the ideas of Newton, Mach, and Einstein on the nature of space and time; the mysterious aether and how Einstein did away with it; and the latest ideas that the vacuum is filled with the Higgs field. The story ranges from the absolute zero of temperature and the seething vacuum of virtual particles and anti-particles that fills space, to the extreme heat and energy of the early universe. It compares the ways that substances change from gas to liquid and solid with the way that the vacuum of our universe has changed as the temperature dropped following the Big Bang. It covers modern ideas that there may be more dimensions to the void than those that we currently are aware of and even that our universe is but one in a multiverse. The Void takes us inside a field of science that may ultimately provide answers to some of cosmology's most fundamental questions: what lies outside the universe, and, if there was once nothing, then how did the universe begin?』

Wow, was I ever wrong. After starting with Vacuum Diagrams and then moving on to Raft and Flux I am totally smitten, I don't want it to end. I wish he had written a hundred Xeelee novels. I went out and bought all 9 books concerning the Xeelee universe except for Timelike Infinity which you can't find for under 35 bucks, but that's ok because I think there's a four volume box set coming out in the spring. I keep going back and re-reading the stuff in this one and am saving Resplendent for the very last. The ideas are mind-blowing. At first I was like, how can an author have the audacity to hop along a 5 million-year timeline? Then I grabbed his 'Evolution' with it's 65 million-year timeline just on our own planet and the rest seems totally sane. Maybe the coolest thing about the books to me is the lengths the human race go to in trying to defeat an enemy that isn't really their enemy but more of a conceit. It sort of parallels the Crusades in that way. Anyway, I highly recommend this to anyone who is a lover of any fiction, speculative, fantasy, whatever, eat it up.』
(Not Free SF Reader) 『A collection of stories set in Baxter's 'Xeelee' future history, where humans get to fight multiple powerful alien races over short and vast distances, and likewise for timeframes. Starting around the year 3000, it ends way past the year 4000000.
The stories are broken up into several sections dealing with various different time periods and settings.
The average for this book is 3.39, contrast this with the later, and very similar in structure Resplendent, which averages 3.68. There's a linking narrative (which means a boatload of italics, which is incredibly annoying to read, as usual, when it is more than a few lines). A lot more average stories in this volume than the latter, but it will still be of interest for Xeelee and Baxter readers.

(dang fine) 『I place this one as middle of the pack Baxter. That makes it a very fine book. Whenever I read a Baxter book, my scientific background fills in a bit more. In the study of math and physics, some concepts are memorized equations and others are ideas expressed in mathematical language. As I understand more, I get to move things from the memorized box over to the idea box. Vacuum Diagrams helped quantum wave functions to finally click.
That's the wonder of Baxter's story telling. The narative brings life to the math.
As for the story, it is a collection of short stories bound together by a narative. The technique works amazingly well. It also gives a nice overview of where a lot of the other books sit in relation to the grand universal arc that runs through Baxter's books.
Having read so much Baxter, I didn't have the wide eyed wonder that my first encounter invoked. I did, however, enjoy it enough that I missed some new episodes of Stargate (atlantis and SG1)』
(A Journey Along the Broad Path of Time) 『cuum Diagrams throws us far into the vast expanse of space and time and won't let us return, though we shudder at the sheer enormity of its vision. It shows us this vision, the 4,000,000 year future of mankind, through short stories that are connected through a common narrator. Each one is exiting and awe-inspiring, taking us on journeys that show the advancement, and at times the degradation, of mankind. As we sail these great seas of time we are witness to many events and great happenings, all of heart stopping importance. We watch the conquering of the solar system, made possible through the use of enormous wormholes, whipping us through the fabric of space-time at unheard of speeds. We stand alongside those who resist the Qax invasion and watch as they tragically fall. We gaze at the impossible craftsmanship of the Xelee, masters of the universe, and then turn in fear as their nightships descend upon our worlds with a calculated efficiency that man is powerless to stop. We ride along with the battle arks, massive ships the size of our moon, equipped with gigantic weapons of war and filled with enough warriors to invade a solar system. And then our eyes fall upon the heartbreaking beauty of the Xelee Ring. Fabricated from the very material of the cosmos itself, it stretches a hundred million miles in to the black oblivion, ripping galaxies apart and pulling them into its core. This is where the mystery lies, at that bright point where all the universe is headed. Why have the Xelee built this audacious construct? And what purpose does it have in man's future? Immerse yourself in this spell binding novel, and maybe you will find the answers.』
(Brilliant arc of future history) 『Difficult going at first with so many ideas and situations thrown at you that it seems a bit overwhelming. Stick with it, though. I finished this as I sat in the back of my truck on lunch break at a construction site and the words "wow" and "holy sh*t" came involunarily from my lips. The ten million year history is wrapped up in a sequence of stunning stories concerning the ultimate fate of humanity and the Universe, and it was a rush of sparking imagination with a wonderfully melancholy finish. I may have even wept. The scientific detail can get ridiculously esoteric at times, but the prose is solid as are the dialogue and characters. Excellent all around.』 『Ironically, you'll probably appreciateVacuum Diagramsmost after you've put it down. The prolific and acclaimed Stephen Baxter has always been praised for his imaginative and conscientious use of science, andVacuum Diagramsis no exception. This collection of short stories will leave you ruminating for days over the sprawl of ideas, worlds, and life forms Baxter has woven together.
Filling in the gaps on Baxter's ambitious, almost audacious, 10-million-year timeline called the "Xeelee Sequence,"Vacuum Diagramsis a collection of revised, previously published short stories that bridges together his popular novels set in this same "future history"--Raft,Timelike Infinity,Flux, andRing. Baxter's universe is rotten with life, from strange tree-stump-like creatures with superfluid ice skeletons to dark matter "birds" to sentient beings composed of pure mathematics. And Baxter's reverence for life's beauty, for its voracious robustness, is hard to resist--especially when it comes to humanity and its tentative, eager rise. The cycling timeline follows humans as they come into their own as a star-faring race, from their first sporadic steps to their near dominance of the universe and beyond.
Vacuum Diagramsis a great introduction to Baxter for those unfamiliar with him and a good primer for the other "Xeelee Sequence" novels. If you already love Baxter or the other novels in the sequence,Vacuum Diagramsis certainly a safe bet. Besides, any book that sends you scurrying quizzically after your college physics text deserves a closer look. Check it out.--Paul Hughes』
『
"And everywhere the Humans went, they found life ..."
This dazzling future history, winner of the 2000 Philip K. Dick Award, is the most ambitious and exciting since Asimov's classic Foundation saga. It tells the story of Humankind -- all the way to the end of the Universe itself.
Here, in luminous and vivid narratives spanning five million years, are the first Poole wormholes spanning the solar system; the conquest of Human planets by Squeem; GUTships that outrace light; the back-time invasion of the Qax: the mystery and legacy of the Xeelee, and their artifacts as large as small galaxies; photino birds and Dark Matter; and the Ring, where Ghost, Human, and Xeelee contemplate the awesome end of Time.
Stephen Baxter is the most acclaimed and accomplished of a brilliant new generation of authors who are expanding the vision of science fiction and taking itto a new golden age.

It is my first time as a fire lookout (I'm a retired airline pilot). Although I do all the cooking back home on the East coast (in a dynamite gourmet kitchen), the scratch cooking and cleanup were wearing me down in the cramped confines of the lookout (15 X 15, no grid power, haul water for cooking and cleaning up 60 steps, etc). I also buy the 2-serving packages, and have the leftovers for breakfast or lunch (the USFS provides me with a propane stove and refrigerator). I missed the "30-day" refund policy by 2 or 3 days, so I am stuck with an alarm clock that does nothing except tell time. I rated the item with 1 star only because I was not allowed to give it 0 stars.』
(Don't buy) 『This clock keeps the time okay, but otherwise I hate it. I seldom use the radio, but the signal never comes in clearly (but it does on other radios I use, so it's not the location). Also, the buttons don't work right. I'll press the alarm 1 button to turn it on, and it doesn't work... I have to press it several times. Also, the clock doesn't even have a buzzer/beep alarm sound. You can only use their preset sounds (wind chimes.. beach.. etc) which I didn't like (you can also use the radio as your alarm, but the signal never comes in clearly as I said before). Don't buy this clock. Waste of money. I never use it for the alarm function anymore as it is too much of a hassle to make sure the alarm actually goes ON when I press the button for it.』
(digital tuning?) 『This is a very "Mickey Mouse" instrument. It took forever to figure out how to set it up. Directions are not very clear. I finally got the time set, then couldn't get the date set. It's touchy and confusing. Also, it says on the box "digital tuning." I thought that meant you pressed a button and the radio searched and landed on the next station that came in the clearest... this is just a regular old wheel that you have to turn and hope you have landed on, and not overshot, the station you're looking for. I also thought I'd be able to set one alarm for radio and one for sounds, but both alarms have to be set for the same thing. I'm extremely disappointed. I paid around $30 for it and it's not worth $5. Don't buy it.』
($27 piece of trash) 『No written instructions in box; I had to go the Timex website to get the manual. The radio can't get a clear station; it won't stay on the station I put it on. The speakers are so full of static that I can't hear anything clearly even though I put this radio in the same spot as my Sony Dream Machine, which never had a problem with reception. Time was easy to set and alarm was easy to set but no matter how carefully I read and followed the instructions, I couldn't get the date to start blinking or respond in any way to the "Time Set" button. It refused to budge off of the preset "12-31" date that was on it when I took it out of the box and plugged it in. Followed the entire process 20 times; 45 minutes later the date still showed "12-31". By that time, in my mind I felt like taking the damned thing outside, smashing it on the sidewalk and sending a 3-word e-mail to the manufacturer (F...k you, Timex!!). I have nothing good to say about this piece of crap. I should have listened to all the bad reviews that I read on Amazon and other websites about how junky it is. I only bought it because my son insisted on having one that projected both time and alarm time and this one was the only one that I could find that did that. I found lots that projected time and date or time and temperature but he wouldn't consider those. Timex used to be a reliable brand; I don't know what happened but they should be horsewhipped for selling this garbage. This one actually stays upright, and it's powerful as well. If you use this vacuum a lot you'll be spending more than the price of the vacuum every two months on the cost of the bags and shipping! How expensive can it be to manufacture a bag, and why does it cost so much to ship?』
(wonderful vac for shop and home) 『This is a very versatile and useful vac. It is very portable, but powerful. This is my favorite all around vacuum.』
(Shop-Vac Has Never Disappointed) 『I've never been disappointed by Shop-Vac products and the All Around Plus is no exception. I finally had to part with two ancient 1.5 hp vacs (over 15 years old). They still worked fine but I wanted to take advantage of the new features and design with this unit. The biggest problem with the old vacs is that they tended to tip over on the small casters, had short cords and no place to store attachments. The All Around Plus has large wheels, will not tip over, has very long cord and plenty of storage for attachments. It's perfect for the around the house, garage, and basement. Plenty of power and all the features you need in a shop vacuum.』
(great value canister vacuum, but...) 『this vacuum is quite versatile and convient for around the house and garage type chores, works quite well, and reasonably priced too. but good luck finding the overpriced dry filter bags for this one. shop vacs own site barely acknowledges its existance and even knowing that you need catalog number 919-64-00 is of little help. no one carries the bags or filters locally, even in a relatively large metro area like Denver. Indeed you can go without the filter bag, but its quite messy as others have mentioned. At Shop Vacs own site 2 packs of bags (four total) with the cheapest shipping will set you back$27.00!』
(Good Vac but bags are no longer available locally) 『We love the vacuum cleaner, but as the previous poster stated the bags are now hard to find. We used to be able to get them at Sears. However they are available through the shop-vac website. But you actually have to enter the bag number 919-64-00 in the search box that comes up after you enter the accessory link. This is not very intuitive.
You can also just use a cartridge or foam filter, which works as well, but then you have to empty the vac and shake out the filter, which is messy.』 『Lightweight, compact, space-saver design adaptable to interior/exterior chores for carpets, boats, vehicles, campers/RVS, upholstery, stairs, kitchen or shop.
