(Incredibly funny and great sexual tension!) This manga was funny and sexy at the same time. I'm glad that there will be a further volume to it. I thought it was worth the price!! Let me start by saying this manga had me laughing from page one. This mangaka is REALLY funny, which made this such an enjoyable read. Some quick background on this one; Kokusai is elected class president and he appoints Chiga, an underclassman, as his vice president. Even though Chiga is Kokusai's underclassman, Chiga looks down on Kokusai as a little slow, whereas Kokusai gets frequently frustrated that Chiga is so popular, good looking and experienced. What makes this story so funny is that Kokusai is a walking target for molestation and is frequently felt up by anyone that gets within his pheromone range. Chiga literally can't turn his back on him for a second. Seeing that Kokusai keeps falling into the wrong hands, Chiga makes it his mission to protect Kokusai at all costs but can he avoid falling into the same trap as Kokusai's molesters? Ok, so lets get down to the nitty gritty, shall we? What a manga! Kaori Monchi is fabulous at telling a funny story. Not only is she good at writing humor, she's even better at illustrating it. I laughed all the way through the story. What else is she good at? Building up the sexual tension. She didn't jump into the wham, bam, thank you ma'am but built it up slowly throughout the story and their first intimate moments aren't drawn explicitly but they were so erotic it didn't matter. The funniest thing about the sex is that there is no frontal nudity but there is, um, "backal" nudity (ha! I just made up a word). Yes, you see his backend getting the work over. I'm not sure why one and not the other but the sex scenes are still HOT (1 solo masturbation scene, 1 masturbation scene with "help", and 1 sex scene). The book does come with one double sided color page (illustration on the front, table of contents on the back). The only problem I really had with this one is either the way it was originally written or the subsequent translation. There were quite a few areas that even upon a reread, just didn't make sense. It didn't affect following the actual story, it just made for a confusing read at times. The plot is interesting even though the seme protecting the uke story element isn't anything new. There are other elements to the story that make it interesting (like who Kokusai's stalker really is?). Character wise, it is a school based story so the characters aren't exactly original but I like that the uke is the older of the two and I still found the two characters very likable and intriguing. The background characters got a little confusing to me and I think I'm going to have to reread this one again before reading volume 2 so I get them all straight. Overall, I loved this title. The sex is hot, the buildup is fantastic and it is funny to boot. My recommendation is to buy it and buy it now (and preorder volume 2!). I totally love this new series. I have since bought the whole series so far and am waiting anxiously for the next volume. I hear there is also an anime based on this story line. I highly recommend it. It is very funny and totally wicked. The drawings are nice and you will love the two storylines. I couldn't put it down once I started to read it. You will totally love this one. --of your time, as much as your money. I enjoyed the first two volumes of this series because of the beautiful artwork and the hilarious antics of the characters. And let's face it, what fangirl wouldn't get a kick out of a story where one of the central characters is a BL (Boy's Love) writer? It is fun to watch Usami swing from ridiculous to (ostensibly) serious and back again, and Misaki's frequent spaz-attacks are as priceless as his confusion over his deepening feelings for Usami is sweet. I would have been content with the series as a humorous gag-type love story, but volume 3 surprised me with its unexpected deepening of the characters, as well as the plot. We see a greater range of emotion, which it seems Misaki and Usami have been trying to avoid in their tentative relationship with each other--but it was the expression on Usami's face in the 'laundry' scene which was the clincher for me! A gorgeous series, and I can't wait for the next volume. The discription of this book is rather correct in the previous post. The characters keep their identities from the other books and this book is just another delight to read. Be warned: The chapters on Hiro and Nowaki do not finish a plot sequence so you get quite a bit of a cliff hanger at the end. However, it really just makes waiting for the next book that much sweeter! This series has a great story and is about a young man comming to terms with his love of another man. In this book Misaki questions his relationshop with Usami and togther they go on a date hower it is interupted. Later Misaki's brother asks Misaki to move back in with him and his wife. Also in this book, Hiro trys to nurse Nowaki back to health and we also get a glimpse of a time before Hiro meets Nowaki. This is a great book with a wonderful story and the drawings are well done. Sometimes the road to romance and true love can be filled with deep, dark potholes... When Misaki begins to seriously question his relationship with Usami, a high-class date might reveal the truth about their bond. But during their time together, the couple is interrupted by the loudmouth and rude Ryuichiro--who drops hints about Usami's true nature! And in the next Junjou Egoist story, Hiro goes to the extreme to nurse his lover, Nowaki, back to health...unaware that Nowaki's "sickness" might not have a cure! (Great Resource) (Soft yaoi) (Clear Instructions and great Illustrations) (Just a bunch of pretty pictures) Er.. It was a good book but It was how to draw male anatomy more than yaoi. Because it was "how to draw hands", "feet"(alot of feet for some reason O_o), and "clothes" and only had 2-3 pages of actual embracing poses and in the back you get a manga thingy used with the characters within the book. Ignoring the inaccuracy of the title (it is mostly about how to draw individual attractive men rather than boy-on-boy lovers) this is a really good drawing resource. It covers mostly how to draw attractive men in a few styles commonly seen in anime and magna. Since it can be difficult to find good resources on drawing ATTRACTIVE males, I appreciate it. I like this book because of the top-notch perspective figure drawing tutorials and excellent examples on drawing one of the most difficult things to capture right, the human hand. I'm looking forward to trying out this new approach to hand drawing and seeing if it will improve my style. The How To Draw Couples book in the same series includes same sex and opposite sex couples as examples. That might solve some of the drawing dilemmas you might encounter drawing lovers and I would recommend that one over this if that is your end goal. It's more like a reference in how to draw cute boys. There's only 3 pages of real yaoi but its just kissing and hugging. There's a short manga in the back about the annoying little characters in the back of the book. There is how to draw feet,hands,sexy lips,clothes,ect. so if your looking for yaoi this isn't the best book. This book is an excellent resource for drawing yaoi manga in every style since the genre's beginnings. It has dozens of examples of anatomy and clothing to creat any kind of character. As far as this being an instructional book for aspiring manga-ka it's somewhat of a flop, though I enjoyed the small selection of costumes and clothing that were shown. Over all if you're more in it for learning to draw males better get the how to draw young men book. It's much better in that perspective. Though they both seem to offer about the same instructional insights. There's very little offered on the side of anatomy and actual posing and interaction between a couple. Otherwise it's a very basic manual coupled with a few costumes, poses and an odd manga-short at the back of the book instead of the usual illustration gallery. I wouldn't recommend this book to aspiring manga-ka, it'd be better to get a drawing young men and couples book instead of this one. You'd get a lot more information out of the two than this one.
