(The art is REALLY bad) (YAOI HENTAI VOL 1) This book might not deserve the 5-star rating, but seeing how badly it's hit by negative reviews, I had to compensate somehow. Many people definitely came to read this book with very wrong expectations. But it is called "HENTAI" for a reason (not "Sweet Bishonen" or "Will Love You Forever"!), and it delivers what it promises. I really enjoed the story by Yamila Abraham (though the art is not the greatest): an aspiring soccer student enrolls in an elite soccer team ruled by a complete sadist, who beats him mercilessly (well, he does all other stuff as well :)). Our character is very much masochistic, though, and falls in love with the coach's son, who's very perverse, to say the least. Very S&M, very explicit. I just wish the art was a bit better, though it's still quite "watchable". Some reviewers complained about "non-con" in this story, but it all depends on your point of view: it seems to me that the masochistic character really enjoyed the whole "non-con" scene, so how can it be "non-con"? An interesting thing is also that there is no "pre-set" uke or seme in this story. The sadistic coach's son (very seme-like) unexpectedly turns all uke and quite submissive at certain moments, which I found quite original and erotic. I admit I didn't like the story - and particularly the art - by Laila Reimez AT ALL. And I'm quite a forgiving / open-minded yaoi reader. The Trach / tentacle monster story was very amusing (and perversely hot), though. Overall, I recommend it to ONLY very open-minded readers who like really hardcore (and espcially S&M) yaoi and know what to expect from the hentai yaoi (and who can "survive" something different from Japanase-style mangas or KOSEN). (I wrote this review on October 11, 2005 when Yaoi Hentai 1 first came out. Strangely, that official listing was deleted...) King's Masterpiece - This is the best piece in this volume, hands down. The story and art style are very professional. The sex is dirty enough that I seriously got into it. This is not a lovey-dovey story (or collection, for that matter). Into His World - I did not care for this piece at all. The art is, for lack of a better word, fanart-ish and, while clean, it lacks a certain finesse I've grown accustomed to. The story is jarring and weak. It's like the author wanted to put everything into one story just in case she never got another chance to publish something. Wicked - I completely admit to not caring for the art style here. That didn't stop me from liking the piece as a whole though. The characters are little too young looking for my tastes. The story is strong and filthy with a nice ending. Trach the Tentacle Monster - A completely goofy, tongue-in-cheek piece. As anime/manga fans, we all know about tentacle monsters and this story just smashes all tentacle monsters together to make this uber-sex-monster with an attitude. It's very funny and it's easy to forgive the artist for amateurish style. All in all, I don't think that Yaoi Hentai is worth what Yaoi Press is asking ($12.95 US). I've seen better art online, actually. If you want to pick it up, get it used and you won't feel like you got ripped off. I was very new to novel form Yaoi when I bought the whole series of Yaoi Hentai earlier this year, I must say that I spent the better part of the next month re-read each and every book roughly four to nine times a week. While the cover story for Volume 1 wasn't great it surely wasn't poor either. I won't lie and said all the stories keep me coming back, there are a few I can not stand because they just poof the scene. But if you want to know what Yaoi is, read this series it will help you get a grasp of the books and might also guide you down a great reading path. I couldn't beleive that the art was so bad. Stick figures would have been an improvement. And the stories were not much better. I am glad I borrowed this from a friend and did'nt buy it. I ENJOY THE BOOK VERY MUCH AND STORY LINES WERE GOOD ALSO This is yaoi at its most extreme: graphic scenes of loving between a college professor and his student, a bar-hopper&some thugs who kidnap him, members of a corrupt soccer team and a tentacle monster who's hot for a pair of twin bishounen. Although it must be one of her earlier works, Nitta is still as crafted to draw incredibly beautiful men. There is hardly any erotica since emphasis was put on building the bonds between the characters rather than getting steamy. But to me, it made for a unique and interesting read. The story line is not as deep and emotional as it traditionally is for Nitta, but this is mainly because these are short stories. Honestly, if you like this mangaka (Nitta), then this is worth getting. It's more of a short read, rather than a continuous storyline (as in a series), so don't expect too much from it. Keshiki and Izuru were best friends as little kids. After all, they're exactly the same age! But when a heartbreaking family tragedy changes Keshiki's world forever, he pushes away all of the wonderful things that used to fill his carefree days with joy...including the confused and hurt Izuru. Many years later, the two boys find that they're students at the same school. Has time healed Keshiki's wounds, or does he need a helping hand to lead him out of the darkness and into the light of friendship? White Brand plunges headfirst into the dizzy, dangerous world of men who must challenge convention in order to stand on their own two feet! The characters don't go beyond kissing but that suits the story. Y.A.O.I. equals yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi. No climax. No point. No meaning. This sums up the mood, but in Western understanding, yaoi promises the depiction of hot boy lovin'- which went AWOL along with the plot. Granted, this is billed as a yaoi series, suggesting a future progression to something more, but in Only the Ring Finger Knows there's barely an indication of physical tension beyond a couple stolen kisses, of a tone more suited to the angstiest shonen-ai in a "you liked it!" "did not, you perv!" sense. If you bother to print an oversized manga collection, the art better be worth it. Something better be worth the extra bucks, but nothing separates either the art or story in this book from a sea of genre. The abundant angst and plethora of plot conventions may please dreamy-eyed shonen-ai and slash fans, but probably no one else. The story focuses on two one-dimensional characters: idolized, uber-popular angel-cum-jerk, Kazuki, and his whiny, nominally protesting destined uke, Wataru. Both boys lock horns over an incident with a hankie and a pair of mysteriously matched rings that accidentally get switched- the possession of which, of course, imply that the boys comprise a gay couple, something of much irritation to both of them. Except they become obsessed with it, leading to a nasty rivalry on Kazuki's end, and shallow exploration of his resentment/attraction to the other boy on Wataru's. This could be a cute premise, ripe with gag potential, mix-ups and sweet, fuzzy moments as we root for Wataru to triumph- if not for the ensuing bullying and manipulation from Kazuki, prosaic intrigues, and much yowling protest from Wataru as he lamely lets it continue just to have a connection with him while he sorts his feelings out. Worthy of a short story, I fail to see how this premise can support an entire series, let alone one book. This manga totally needs its love because between two pretty boys sharing two rings trying to find some way to show there feelings for each other. Its the ultimate way to show there feelings to the world. I'm so glad that I bought this book. Its full of drama and pretty good kissing.I totally said you should buy ths manga.Ultimate yaoi lover. I got it last week and I was so excited that i read it right away. it took me one hour to finish it. i am reading it the second time. later, i am going to go buy the novels for it. *love it* Absolutely beautiful story and georgeous art. Very romantic. I re-read this manga over and over again. I love it so much that I ordered the novels from Amazon to know how the relationship between Wataru and Kazuki progresses. I'm happy DMP published the English translation of the novels. I already pre-ordered the 3rd novel, which will be released October 30th. Can't wait! At Wataru Fujii's high school, it's all the rage to wear paired rings with the girl you love. Wataru wears one though he is single, and one day inadvertently discovers that his ring pairs up with that of tall, handsome, and smart Yuichi Kazuki, the senior classman idolized by the entire school. Though Kazuki has a reputation for being kind to all, when dealing with Wataru, he is strangely harsh. Their paired rings somehow draw them together and the two alternately clash and attract, as they must sort out their budding feelings for each other.
