One thing I did like was that the attraction between the characters is drawn out. There is a lot of one sided sexual tension, and the only love scene is at the very end. It does have the traditional color page, which was gorgeous. It really is an okay read. Apparently its part of a series of books with similar themes, but I've yet to find out if the others have been published here in the States.』 『In the luxurious Middle Eastern kingdom of Kassina, Takeyuki, "The Desert Hawk," kidnapped by bandits for his beauty, in turn kidnaps Said, the young man with the blue eyes. With eyes that no one's heart can escape from and a voice that sends chills down spines, it must have been him Said spoke so rudely to on the plane to Kassina. Has Takeyuki been chasing him ever since?』

But the difference between the obstinately blushing Himi that Genma remembers, and the one before his eyes who obediently acquiesces, is irritating. Can a love that was lost come back?』

Perhaps it was wishful thinking brought on by the siren-song of the beautiful cover art... but all I ran into was another case of "guy rapes other guy until love ensues". Oh the joys of noncon!
Leonard is just a typical powerless "No, I don't want it but I really do" uke while Jamal is the stereotypical all-powerful commander of both their desires. Together they're fairly one-dimensional characters that form a relationship that is equally one-dimensional, with Leonard's loathing becoming loving in a ridiculously abbreviate amount of time.
The storyline is pretty watery since the point, of course, is to get the shaggings going as frequent as possible-- even if it doesn't make much sense at the time (ex. the first sex scene where Jamal "humiliates" the captive Leonard before an awkward live studio audience, or that time when Jamal is being "punished" but the lashings are briefly put on hold for another awkward public shag with one of the king's minions). I wouldn't expect quality dialogue or riveting plot twists. The setting is pretty much the only interesting addition to this story.
Despite the blurb on the back of the book, readers shouldn't be deluded into thinking this is a period piece about the Crusades. It is NOT. Oki Ogasawara herself says it is a "fantasy modeled after the Ottoman Turks and the Crusades". It is not meant to be period-accurate and has little in common with the time-period of the Crusades save for some cultural references. But if what you're most interested in is drawings of genitalia, they are there, don't you worry. The ending implies a sequel but I wont be getting it. I can't even manage to give my copy of the book away!』
(Hottest Crusader Yaoi Story) 『This book is one of my most favorite licensed hard yaoi story of all time. The story is so engaging&the beautiful, detailed as well as "hot" art work is not censored at all from the original Japanese work. I must have reread the book at least 5 times. I think this book is still worth collecting despite the fact the hearsay that the author is no just starting to work on its sequal in Japan.』
(Uki=Love) 『I sometimes feel rather like Goldie-Locks when searching for yaoi: This yaoi is toooo hard, This yaoi is toooo soft--but this yaoi, Uki Ogasawara's Black Sun, was JUST right! The standard of art I have come to expect from Ms. Ogasawara is quite high, after her intricate and colorful past works I doubted she could outdo herself, but once again she delivers with clean beautiful images, from the characters clothing to their vibrant expressions, her gift for art is unprecedented and adds wonderful definition to a this unpredictable and surprisingly fun tale; with just the right amount of agnst, comedy, sex and a hint of love this book left me begging for more (so beware fellow fans this story doesnt have an ending BUT...): I would recommend this book to anyone who has a taste for BL, its rather like a fine wine-consumption is only half the pleasure, to have it in a collection is a sign of yaoi prestige!』
(oh my word) 『I try to remind myself that this is fiction because a Christian Knight and a Muslim General.Such physical act of desire is punishable by death .They are not Greek or maybe I should pretend they are Greek in costume.
Other than that the bed or sex scenes are pretty graphic ,nothing is blurred, the main charcaters are likable, story would be better if the manga is a series .In this book, the conflict is not resolved at all . So far I have not seen any hint of book 2 which makes it frustrating. I like the illustrations alot if there was a artbook for it, I will get one. This manga has your typical dark hair tall manly seme and light hair smaller pretty boy uke.』
(Romance...of the smutty kind) 『Good night I loved this title! The artwork was divine (the mangaka drew the men with these long lovely eyelashes and it made their eyes smolder *insert squee*) and the plot was actually rather solid. If you took out all the explict scenes it would have still read as an impressive story, which is a good thing. However, the explict scenes are there and goodness aren't they detailed. No glowing or invisible man parts in this book!
The interaction between the two main characters is romantic in it's own way. Leonard, though the uke (submissive/bottom/receiver) isn't by any means the weak, virginal type. He holds his own and is only the uke because he sacrafices himself for the sake of his troops. Though humiliated he understands that he chose the position that he is in, so there isn't any outward dislike toward Jamal, the man that he is now enslaved to. Jamal, though technically the enemy is a noble man and very likeable, he isn't mean to Leonard and actually admires the knight for his scarafice. Leonard finds himself drawn to Jamal though he know he shouldn't and early on he admits that Jamal can make his body quite needy. You find yourself rooting for the odd couple to find their footing and figure things out, even while others are getting in their way (Isaac, Jamal's hansome adjutant and de la Tour, Leonard's former commander).
It's a well paced, sexy, interresting read and well worth the money. I am looking forward to the next volume and hope it comes out soon!』 『Gerun Fortress, under the command of Officer Leonard de Limbourg, is attacked by the prestigious general Jemaru Jan of the Middle Eastern Empire. With no hope of winning, Leonard offers his head in exchange for the safety of any survivors left in the fortress. But Jemaru isn't into executions, and torturing prisoners of war is much more interesting. Forced to sleep with a man that is his enemy, Leonard's feelings of shame overtake his mind, but lust overtakes his body...』
