It's built of high quality materials and should last a long time with constant use.
I am using it as a occupational therapy aid device for a stroke victim with limited verbal communications.

『My husband and I ordered this game for our son. We both enjoyed playing the game as children and thought our son would like it as well. We were a little surprised that it had changed some, but 20 years later, we really shouldn't have expected it to be the exact same.

We actually liked the changes. They took us a few rounds to get it down, but we had a blast. Our son is asking us to play the game a lot. He has even taken it to his grandparent's house to play with them!

We also got the game on sale and even with shipping, it was still cheaper than buying at our local Wal-Mart.

So yes, beware, the game has changed, but just because a few people don't like change, doesn't necessarily mean the changes are terrible.

The thing is, if you really want to play with the old rules (ie choose your career vs choosing blindly, spin for gifts vs using the LIFE tiles, etc.) than there is no reason you can't.』

『Having not had the original game of Life when I was a kid, I had nothing to compare it to. We got this for Christmas and I played it with my 11 yr old and 7 yr old sons. I thought it might be harder for my 7 yr old to follow at first..seemed a little grown up with all the careers, salary, etc. But he caught on and we had a fun game. He loved suing me...twice...』

『I bought this game because some friends and I had forgotten how to play. It had been a while, but once receiving the board game, it all came rushing back.
The game lasted a lot longer than I remembered, and all of it's little details are really fun to set up. As a kid I never followed the precise rules, but now as an adult, it's more fun that way!』

(Do you really want to teach your children to sue people???)

『I was just now setting up this stupid game I got for my 9-yr-old son who asked for it. There are at LEAST 9 spots to land where you're supposed to sue your neighbor and get 100,000. I have a real problem with that. Another is where you get cosmetic surgery...what? I came online to see what alternatives I could come up with and make my own stickers to put over top of the extra bad spots. Definately should have read the reviews. I didn't have this one as a kid, but I can't immagine it being like this.』

(A cheap "gimmicky" version of the original)

『First of all, what made the original fun to play, when I was a kid, was imagining being an adult, making all these adult choices, and personalizing whatever mostly random set of experiences the game said we would have.

The game just seems cheap and gimmicky now, like some soulless executive said "make it cost half as much to create, and throw some hooks in to make up for it"
examples:
1. The plastic pieces now fall off the board, we had to fix the spinner several times.

2. The life cards are smaller, give less money (like 10 or 20k instead of 100 or 200k), an ugly yellow colour, and worst of all, don't say what they are for, we used to always read them at the end and ooh/aah/giggle depending on what the card was for, and how well it would fit the person who got it, but now it's just a number

3. The people don't stay in the cars any more, if you pick the car up by the person, they all fall out (this occurred frequently enough that we nicknamed it "Godzillaing"); there are all these cards called "share the wealth" like 30 of them, I think there are as much "share the wealth" cards as all other cards combined, but between the three of us, we only ever got one of these cards.

4. The new one turned the entire thing into an enormous cartoon, every image is cartoony and cheap feeling. The money doesn't look like money, the characters are all childish looking, you can't look at the houses and actually care which one you get, because they all look horrible (okay, the mountain cottage was decent).

5. They added roulette to the game (I kid you not), and built this whole thing around "spin to win" where your kids can learn to gamble.

But it's not all bad, there were some things I liked about it
1. They got rid of trading your salary, which seemed to always go against me.

2. I liked the job raises you could get, and that the salary is now tied to the job instead of a separate card.

Okay, that's pretty much it. Overall, I felt like I was just lining some corporate goon's pockets by buying the game.』

『Found this toy to be extremely durable. Not a bad learning toy, but some pieces were too small, and no storage container was enclosed for all the pieces...easy to lose or misplace. Shipment was fast, but was more expensive then found in other stores.』

『We received this toy as a gift for our 2 year old. When we took off the plastic packaging a very strong chemical odor filled the air. It smelled like pesticide or something equally noxious. This was not just a plastic smell. We put the entire box outside for 2 days and it still smelled. While our son shows some interest in this toy I am not comfortable having him handle this or be anywhere near it. I wonder if it was sprayed with something in China before it was wrapped.』

『We purchased this for our daughter's second birthday. She loves pretend food and playing in her kitchen. All of the Melissa&Doug wooden food toys are favorites that we have but the ice cream parlor set is a favorite. It is well made, creative and fun. It helps create the ultimate in pretend play. The ice cream scoops actually stick to the cone through a magnet and don't fall off easily. The scoops can also be set in a bowl which our daughter does. There are not a bunch of small pieces and the set is easy to keep together. It is a toy we will have forever. Highly recommend for any child from ages 2-8.』

『I purchased the stars to put in my son's bedroom. The jar comes with a decent size of stars. The only downside is that the adhesive provided does not work very good. The stars would come off after a day. I used a glue gun instead&the stars has been staying put. The stars were great not the adhesive.』

Scoop 'N' Stack
The Melissa&Doug Ice Cream Set features an abundance of nostalgic ice cream parlor charm, starting with its sturdy red-and-white, striped storage container. The set includes four realistic molded plastic ice cream scoops in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and mint chocolate chip "flavors." Two wooden cones and two plastic scoopers with painted wooden handles round out the set.

The scoopers, cones, and four ice cream scoops are all magnetic, so the scoopers can actually pick up the ice cream scoops and place them on the cones.
