It's a great game, especially for teenagers - playing this game they can develop logical thinking, strategy skills and bargaining&trading skills. Plus it gets them away from the TV&computer and we sit down as a family. A game doesn't have to take this long but we occasionally we play for 4 hours at a time because for us playing isn't about winning, it's about hanging out and spending time with each other - we have fun!』
(A Very Worthwhile Expansion) 『My wife and I got the 4th edition "Settlers of Catan" as a wedding gift in August of 2008. I really like strategy games a lot and Settlers certainly did deliver on that account. After a while though I found myself wishing that there was a little more strategy/complexity involved in the game, and that's where Cities and Knights came in. The Cities and Knights Expansion adds a lot more strategy, complexity, and variety of what you can do on each turn. My wife and I both LOVE this expansion as it makes the game so much more interesting, involving, and entertaining.
We still enjoy the original Settlers if we want a quicker game or if we are teaching new people how to play. But if you get some experienced players together, Cities and Knights definitely takes things to a whole new level. It has improved the game so much that my wife and I bought the Seafarers expansion to see if that will make the Settlers experience even better!
If you are a person that enjoys strategy games that you have to think through and plan ahead for, this game is for you. Since the map and numbers on the hexes are different every time you play the game the game is different every time and has not become boring at all. I've probably played Cities and Knights twenty times in the last year and I still enjoy it a lot, excellent replay value!
The quality of the pieces, tiles, dice, border, etc. are acceptable. They won't survive your two year old playing with them, but if care is taken in the set-up and use of the game I see no reason why it won't last you a life time.
Bottom line: If you enjoyed Settlers of Catan, you will love this expansion!』

(Great If You Can Modify It) 『 I received a Rubik's Brand 4x4 cube for Christmas this year. I can solve the 3x3 in about a minute and a half each time, I was looking for something harder and this new cube fits the bill perfectly. Up to a point, it is not like a 3x3, and is entirely intuitive. However, you can eventually turn it into a scrambled 3x3, and you solve it the same from that point on. Except for parity. Parity is a situation that can occur on a 4x4 but is not possible on a 3x3, and it requires at least two huge, horrible, difficult, chalenging, and crazy algorithms that you must memorize. But, it is very fun to solve and I recomend every Rubix enthusiast to get one.
Now, about the quality of this particular cube. My problem is with the stickers. The internal mechanism, a sphere, is fine. The physical construction of this thing is great. It moves well, and is very sturdy. But the stickers are not durable. Within three days, they began to peel. I then decided to take a risk, and customize it. I took it apart, and painted each piece individually with epoxy, then I scraped the excess epoxy off the insides of each individual piece once it dried. I then lubed it with WD40 and Vaseline, while putting it back together. The result, a professional looking and moving cube. It took a lot of time, but I think it was worth it. However, that amount of work would not be necessary if Rubik's were to spend about 5 cents more on each cube and get better stickers. The quality of the stickers deduct two stars from this otherwise five star cube.
I would recomend that you look at other brands for you 4x4, like Eastsheen, or maybe a tiled cube. Or, you could purchase better stickers for about a dollar and put them on yourself as soon as you get this cube. Or you could turn it into a frankencube as I have done with mine. But except for the poor stickers, this is a great cube, very chalenging and fun, and anyone will enjoy it.』

These cubes are pretty expensive, but very poorly made. It is prone to break easily, but even if it doesn't, the motion is not smooth at all. The stickers will wear out with a solid week's worth of play. Your best bet is to track down an Eastsheen cube (best bet is on eBay) or to wait for V-cubes to release their version. If you are already stuck with one though, replace the stickers at [...] and browse online for a cube-lube (again, eBay is a pretty reliable source), or even just a silicone-based lubricant. That ought to get you some decent use out of it.』 『Rubik's 4X4 will drive you crazy. You may think you will be able to solve this puzzle quickly, but then you make a turn on the cube and it changes all over again. And he lost one of the disks almost right away, but it does have a handy holding spot. Once we found the disk (took a couple days) I showed him where to keep them, but expect that they will get lost again. At any rate, despite that he did not get into the game, I really liked it and so did my five year old. he stuck to only two games (one that is like simon says and another where it tells you which disk to slide under and you have limited time). The rest of the games were a bit too complicated. And those two games even got to be too hard for him after a bit. So, if you have an slightly older child (maybe 6 and up?), that actually plays with something other than their video game machine and is slightly responsible to not lose pieces, then this is a great buy. Adults will enjoy it too and you can play together.』

What was I thinking?
On the strength of great Amazon reviews, I bought this as a present for my 13-year-old son this past Christmas. Last year, I bought another electronic game solely on the strength of Amazon reviews, Bulls Eye Baseball, which we all enjoyed (me especially, as I got pretty good at the game).
This Christmas, I'm not much of a contender for the faster reflexes of my 13yo. Okay, so maybe my 2-star review is just because I'm a grumbling loser. I'd like to think not, of course, so here's why I don't care for this game:
One, there is no volume control. In loud settings, it can be hard to hear the announcer call out the color puck, and it's frustrating to lose a game because you couldn't hear the announcer's voice. In quiet settings, the voice is too loud.
Two, it'd have been better to include 4-color LED lights so the game could optionally be played noiselessly without any need for any announcer voice at all. And "noiselessly" means being able to turn-off that stupid background music, too.
Three, opening the cover to the pucks can lead to an explosion where the hard-to-remove lid suddenly flies off, and the pucks scatter everywhere. Why couldn't it have had a simpler, more elegant design, where it's just a slide-out drawer?
Four, there is no on/off button. When you want the game to end, there is an automatic shut-off mechanism, but who wants to listen to the music and announcer drone on and on as you wait for the stupid game to just SHUT UP already! The only easy way to get the game to shut up and turn off is to use a pointy object to depress the reset button.
Five, we thought the game was actually broken when we first tried using it -- it turned on and spoke to us, but the game wouldn't register the colored pucks passing underneath the archway. Turns out, the loose batteries we installed from the "junk drawer" were half-spent and didn't provide enough voltage to run the game properly. The game should have recognized this and said, "Low battery power - please replace all batteries before playing this game." We almost packed it up and shipped it back to Amazon before realizing it was a "user error."
Six, I just don't like games that are spazzy and require fast reflexes. I play games to relax and laugh. If you like the card game Dutch Blitz, you'll probably like this game, too, as it's just as frenetic. I hate Dutch Blitz because it's frenetic.
My kids have played the game solo and against each other, but none seem to be as fascinated with the game as much as other Amazon reviewers have been when they began playing. I'm guessing that it'll get shoved underneath the microwave oven -- where all of our games are stowed -- a few days after New Year's Day, and we'll hardly ever play it in 2010.
You can see from the many 4- and 5-star reviews that most people really like this game, however. Consider my review, then, as a counter-balance to all those positive reviews, so if you pull the trigger and buy this game, you'll really know what you're getting, and how well you're likely going to enjoy playing it.』

While the objects of the games are simple, playing them can be a fun challenge. The first game, "Fast Pass," is all about speed. You start with a color and add one to the sequence each time you complete a round. "Code Buster" gives you 90 seconds to decipher the secret series of colors.
Best of all, you can play all these games with a friend or by yourself. With both "Fast Pass" and "Add One," you can even play head-to-head with another player or team. For solo play, the rubber "hyper band" is attached under the arch, bouncing the discs back to your side.
Put to the Test Playing on any smooth, nonmetal surface, you'll be surprised how much fun the Hyper Slide really is. An announcer's voice, high-energy music, and sound effects move these games along. With your head in the game, you'll soon block out all the noise and only hear the color to flick, slide, or shoot through the arch. Unfortunately, if the constant voice directions are not your thing, the game can't be played without these sounds, nor can the volume be adjusted. On the plus side, the Hyper Slide announces your score at the end of each competition and keeps track of the highest score for each game. This electronic system runs on three "AAA" batteries (sold separately).
