This is an excellent toy with lots of things for the kids to play with.
There is so much that comes with this vet kit, it can be a chore to keep everything together - unless you just give up (which I've almost done). Overall though, my 3-year-old daughter loves playing with each "instrument," just not on the doggy provided. She prefers to use them on mommy&daddy! So maybe instead of being a vet, she'll be an MD!
We got this for my 3 year old niece for her birthday, but after she opened it my 2 year old, 5 year old and 7 year old were all playing with it just as much as she was. There are plenty of food/vet pieces for everyone to pick their favorite tool/food to use at the same time. The dog is small, but soft and cute. I liked that everything cleans up into the dog's cage when you are done playing. Very fun!
My 2 1/2 year old twin granddaughters loved the Dalmation Vet. Kit. They carried their animals around in the little cages and loved playing Doctor to their stuffed animals. The only negative was that it was hard for them to open and close the cage door.
My 5 year old granddaughter loved this set. She particularly liked the cage, and used it for a variety of stuffed animals. The stuffed dog that came with it was rather cheaply made, I thought. However the vet tools were well made and there were lots of them--led to much creative play.

My seven year old can now read the Gate Cards and Activity Cards on his own and knows how to use them--so we started having actual brawls, or battles, or whatever you call them-- but he got frustrated pretty easily trying to get the bakugans to land on the Gate Cards with just his hands. He had tried the wrist launcher with limited success but this launcher works like a charm. It keeps the battles moving and the game interesting.
When my dad came back from his trip he brought me this toy and i tried it out and it didn't shoot really far. So at first i was a little disappointed but then i found out that if you swing it it will shoot really far and now i'm really happy with it.
Bought this for my son who is 7. He also got the first launcher that you strap on your wrist which doesn't really work at all. This one works well for the original size brawlers and the new series 2. We now have two for when he wants me to battle with him. Hey, he can't beat me every time! : )
With the popularity of Bakugan firmly entrenched in the psyche of boys everywhere--at least until some hotter fad comes along--the need to buy everything Bakugan-related becomes a life mission for some. Hence the need for a Bakugan launcher.

At Amazon, reviews of the wearable wrist launcher (which differs from this item and has a higher coolness factor) have been universally underwhelming, so when presented with the "gotta have Bakugan" chant from our son, I bought this hand launcher instead.

The truth? This launcher winds up being a substitute for a thumb. As Bakugan is simply a hipper version of marbles meets trading cards (with more than a dash of Pokémon thrown in for good measure), the point of having to buy something to do what one's largest digit can accomplish is lost on this grayhair--though I will admit the launcher is better at the get-go for adding a backspin to your Bakugan roll.

Still, this hand launcher seems like overkill for what it actually does. My advice to the kiddies: Ditch the launchers and learn how to use your thumb. As an old man would say, "The practice will build you whippersnappers some character."
Nice that this fits both the newer big and older small Bakugan balls. Not too exciting - you just stick the ball in and hit the switch to "release" it, but my son loves it and uses it often when "brawling".

First the good. The phaser is very good. You have the option of using it as a Type I (just using the smaller part) or Type II (ie. docking it into the pistol part and using both). Now the bad news. The Type I doesn't dock into the pistol very well at all. This affects the "overload" function. Only through pressing down on it by hand or somehow wedging the phaser down will you get the overload to work. It's cheaply built but it doesn't mean it's not fun. The communicator however is just bad all around. The mesh screen came bent and not fitting flush to the rest of the communicator. Thankfully it's made of cheap metal so I could bend it to the right positioning. Also, don't think you can flick this communicator open just like the show. There's no friction on the hinge so it just flops around. The motor that makes the screen design slowly spin around is so incredibly loud that I went in and took out the battery. No on/off switch. The communicator couldn't be more disappointing. Save yourself the money and buy the phaser by itself if you really want it.
While a big fan of Star Trek, I would not be considered a "Trekkie". However, the "replica" items are fine for my taste. They are only for display use and therefore are just fine. A more fanatical fan would probably be disappointed in the quality and design. But for the "average" fan, they are acceptable. Probably a little over-priced for the average fan.
I must say this is a disappointment, mainly due to the quality. The communicator in particular looks rather poor. The paint job is sloppy, with some of the silver paint spilling off of the trim, or not covering the trim completely, making the new item look worn. The antenna has a frame with the mesh "cage" soldered at a few points, and where it is not soldered it does not quite meet the frame, leaving rough looking gaps. It does not fit into the casing well and won't close completely. Though only a very minor nitpick, the antenna is also a matte bronze color rather than the shiny gold in the picture (this may be more faithful to the original prop, as shiny metal can cause glares on set, but it was nonetheless a little disappointing). Mine had some sort of flaw in the display screen resulting in a big black splotch in the center. The phaser doesn't suffer quite as much, though it too has sloppy paint.

All of this is in addition to the over use of gimmicks. I knew going in that the phaser wasn't perfectly accurate, but the changes seem excessive and unnecessary. The biggest modification is the "targeting sensor". What is supposed to be the power control dial instead raises the silver mesh piece on the top to a low angle, supported by a clear plastic piece that replaces the trigger button (which has been relocated to the bottom of the piece). To change the power setting one turns the gauge on the right side. This might seem like fannish, nerdy nitpicking, but it is a significant modification of the original design, unless all the replicas I've seen elsewhere are inaccurate. Combined with the reassigning of the pistol's power control dial that is supposed to initiate a self destruct sequence (that doesn't work on mine) and a few other minor details, it really isn't accurate to brag about the authenticity.

All in all, these are not really very good for collectors or geeks who want to display or occasionally play with replicas. They might be more suitable for children, but they are awfully expensive to be thrown around by a kid, especially given their light construction. Perhaps if the makers had used fewer gimmicks and instead made the items a littler better, they might be worth it. As it is, I will be sending mine back, and will just save up for proper replicas.

Of course if these two toys where metal that would be an improvement but for the purpose of being able to have a great replica of a childhood fantasy in your hand, this product is good. A heavier, more durrable plastic would be an improvement. The sound effects are cool. The 'hailing' setting on the comunicator is great. The phaser has an over load build up with explosion setting, straight out of the original TV show.
I always wanted these toys as a kid growing up in the late 70's but to poor to get for Christmas or birthdays, so I'm buying them now..just 'cause.
This was a gift for my husband, a total Trekkie, and he does have alot of fun with it.

My 5 1/2 year old grandson had this on his wish list - so I bought it, of course. He was so excited to receive this and has been playing with it constantly and wants more of the "bakugan" items.
My son wanted Bakugan so badly that was all he wanted for Christmas and now he doesn't even play with it. Both my husband and I tried playing it with him it is so complicated that you can't understand the directions or how to play it. I would not recommend this item to people.
Just what I wanted for my grandson. Could not find anywhere in the stores except for here. Received the pkg. in plenty of time for Christmas
This is a great toy, but make sure to do your price comparisons on Bakugan items. Some of the items being sold by other sellers here on Amazon are over 300% more than the prices at other outlets.
Between you and me this is a piece of junk, but it occupies my sons (ages 8 and 6) for hours, so I'm not complaining.

This was the hit of a birthday party, especially how it will spit water (if you don't fill the tank it won't). Very fun.
My son really wanted this toy, so for his 8th birthday we got it for him. He was excited at first, but as time goes on (not even a month) he has lost interest in it completely. My girls that are 3 play with it everyday and he doesnt even care. It is pretty durable, I just dont think it is everything they say it is in the commercial.
Doesn't work like it's supposed to. Ordered one through Amazon and the thing spit water one time and that was it. Purchased one locally at a store and it did the same thing. Exchanged that one and the 3rd one did the same. Needless to say that's it. Obviously there's a malfunction when it's supposed to spit the water. Although he loves watching it, but still he is afraid of it when it is active. Guess in a while he will warm up to it. Great toy for older kids.
This toy is a little creepy, as others said before, but that's what makes it cool. Why do kids like Dinosaurs? Because they're scary. They startle the imagination with what it must have been like on Earth those days, and this toy does exactly that. My 3-year-old and I came across it in Walmart, and yes ... he WAS afraid of it, but hypnotically drawn to it at the same time. He wanted to explore those feelings, and I belive that's why he watches the Monitor Lizard episode of Zaboomafoo EVERY SINGLE DAY. He reads Dinosaur books for the same reason. I decided in the end not to get this toy for him right now ... maybe when he's older. The sounds are VERY life-like, and the movements are diverse. There are 12 unique sounds, and many combinations of movements. It reacts to "petting" and to motion ... making it a VERY life-like creature. I consider it a stretch toy for those wanting to explore dinosaurs. To be honest, the toy even scared me a little bit. Which, after all, is what dinosaurs should do, right?
