(PRODUCT RECALL -- GREAT TOY) (We LOVE Thomas!!) (A pretty good destination) My son absolutely loves this accessory to the wooden track set. He plays with it all the time. It was defintely a good buy. My son opened this at Christmas, and he was so excited! It's about as great as any Thomas&Friends wooden station should be. He loves the little bell when the station door opens, and the roof is designed to come off when rough play emerges, keeping the station from breaking. My son loves the two entrances, and with his new switches, he's able to create some neat track configurations with this station. The fire trucks are neat, and the fire hose that comes with the small truck is removable. The only complaint I have is that the removable fire hose doesn't sit firmly in the back of the train, and mostly spends its time sitting on the floor or in the train bin. The fire station and related items have been recalled due to possible lead paint contamination from the Chinese factory which manufactured them. We love Thomas! Not just my 4 year old son, but I love building layouts with him as well. We recently ordered the Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway-Fire Station. While overall, my son loves it and plays with it daily, it arrived broken. The roof is not attached, so when he plays he just puts it back on. Normally Thomas (wooden) products are very well made and hold up, but this one just needs some super glue to glue the roof back on. Overall, I'd recommend this toy. A fire station is a fun addition to any rail system! I hoped to get this as a home for the Sodor fire crew engines I already owned. It was a pretty good destination and it came with an adapter you can use for the rails or the road. The reason why I give this destination 4 stars instead of 5 is because the fire truck is slow to come out of the garage at times, and you may want to glue the fire truck's hose and the roof pieces so that they do not get lost (as I have done). Despite this, I think it was a pretty good destination, and it would make a good addition to your collection. The Island of Sodor is safe from fire thanks to the Fire Station. My 7 year old has moved on to easy bake but all of the 2-4 year olds who come over love them. After 6 months they still get tons of use and have held up nicely. Our son loves shaking the spices on his play food. It fits perfectly on the shelf of his wooden Little Tikes play kitchen. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because I wish the lids were magnetic, but otherwise great! I thought the toy looked great but my toddler was bored of it within a few days. Once he mastered the color caps in the correct order he was "done" playing with it. I really need to stick to toys that have multiple uses. My 17 month old toddler loves playing with this. However, the flat bed that comes with the crane is not wide enough for any of the cars or trains to sit on. Just a heads up. Excellent Toy! My son is the biggest Thomas the Train fan! My son loves the Thomas and Friends trains and we are unable to buy them where we live. The train is great. The crane pivots which is great so that it can pick up things on either side of the track. My son was extremely pleased with this train. The one downfall is the picture. He is three years old and was expecting the Breakdown Train with the yellow crane. When it came, he did not understand that this was the actual train and he would not be getting the yellow crane. I would recommend changing the picture. Young children do not understand that it may be different than the actual picture. Other than that, we are totally satisfied and love the Breakdown Train. We would highly recommend it to anyone who likes to make their trains crash and have another train come to the rescue. After pushing and pulling her favorite trains, our daughter (almost two) likes to swing the yellow arm around and hook the magnets onto other trains. She has no idea what a "breakdown train" is, but she knows this is visually and functionally different than the other engines and cars. Trevor is a traction engine and if you're not familiar with them, a traction engine doesn't run on rails and it's like what it sounds. A big, huge tractor, really. What makes Trevor really neat is although he is an engine, he also has a wheel that turns on top whenever he is moved along the track. He provides tons of fun in our house and really is a unique addition to your child's train set. He's not a major player in the videos, but a cute addition anyway. This toy works great as a tunnel at first. If your child is prone to bump the train setup as they play, knocking down risers and tracks, you can (as others suggested) just use it flat on the table. My son loves any tunnel or bridge, and this one has windows he can watch the train go through. I'm using it flat right now, as he is still young and clumsy with layouts. I plan to use it as a covered bridge if I fasten down some track to a table or when he gets older and doesn't bump the track so much. At first, he didn't understand the track was attached, and tried to lift the bridge up to look underneath. Once he figured out the track was attached, he left it on the layout. It also makes a great portable tunnel. When we free play on the carpet, he takes the tunnel and an engine, and plays with them on the couch... pushing the engine through the tunnel. A good addition to our growing Thomas collection. Durable and nicely made, should last many years. This is a well made tunnel. It can be used with the risers and supports to be a covered bridge or put flat on the table to be used and a tunnel. The graphics are greaat, which is typical for this brand. The riser tracks and supports fit well together and is pretty stable. I have not had problems that soem other described. Howevr I do use those suretrack clips at the bottom of the risers which give it more stability. My only gripe is the price. With no moving parts I'm not sure how this tunnel can retail at $25 which is the same for the water tower and just a bit cheaper than the mine tunnel. Of course it can be had for cheaper here, but still a bit pricey for a simple tunnel. Skyler always wants the Knapford Bridge in his layout. He loves to push the trains through the tunnel. It's an easy piece to use because you can put it on or off the risers. We usually leave it off the risers because otherwise it falls over alot. You could superglue the risers on but then you can't play with it flat on the table. That is an easy and versatile way to use this piece. You can also use it with the stacking risers or the arched viaduct for a more sturdy raised layout. Could be more cute and colorful in the detail. I've noticed my son's favorite Thomas pieces are the bridges. He plays with this bridge more than any of the others. He's still young so the up and down of the bridge is perfect for his age. We did have a problem with the bridge not staying on the risers, but we easily fixed it. We used superglue to glue the bridge to the risers. We didn't glue the ascending pieces so that we could change the layout if we wanted. Just position the risers in the middle of the connecting pieces of track and superglue. That way the track stays connected to the bridge. I hear what the first reviewer is saying about the covered bridge falling from the supports easily, however my son absolutely loves this bridge and plays with it constantly. He loves how the trains pass through the bridge, but you can still see them through the windows. If we get tired of setting it up on the supports over and over, we just set it up so it sits flat on the table and it's still alot of fun for him. I'm recommending this covered bridge because it's a simple, fun piece for your collection. No bells and whistles, just imagination, make this toy fun. Surprisingly, he hasn't really played a lot with the barn, but he loves to take the plane which can be detached and play with it on it's own. I am actually glad that he uses his imagination more then the prefixed path the plane's track is giving him. I too just bought mine for the upcoming holiday and am hoping that the new flying track additions to Geo-Track will also be a huge hit with the next generation ( our youngest is 2 ). It has been the #1 played with toy in our house for the last 2 years when it was given to my now 4 yr. old for his 2nd birthday. As another reviewer mentioned it spans all ages -the big sister who is 9 even joins in. When friends come for play dates it is hard to tear them away. My kids play hard and so far they have yet to break them. The battery powered cars last a fairly long time and the combinations of track systems are endless. Beware that you do need to clear half the room to be able to set these up but they provide hours of enjoyment. They also aren't easy to store. I bought a couple of big tubs that they can be thrown into and that seems to work well. Geo Trax has really impressed me as a well thought out line of product that works with many ages. The rail/road sets were recently played with by a 3yo, 5yo, 6yo, and 10yo at the SAME TIME and that all enjoyed it in their own way. I hope the new line of "airplane" themed sets is as well crafted and thought through as the road rail. I say "hope" as I have seen them at the store, but the ones I purchased are "do not open until Christmas." I feel save in recommending them, regardless. The new GeoAir segment takes performance and imagination to all new heights. The deluxe air track expansion packs include a full loop of flexible air track. (Not Impressed) (Our 3 year old loves it!) My 3 year old is a fan of the Cars movie. He absolutely loved getting this for Christmas 08'. He has a lot of fun with it, plays with it every day, and even insisted on sleeping with it a few times. The only thing I am not fond of, neither is he, is that opening Mack is very difficult. But, he usually asks someone else to open it, it was just really frustrating for him for a time. I purchased this item for my 3.5 year old for Christmas. First it is very difficult to open. You have to put pressure on it and pull it open. My son pinched his hand closed in it and I had to put pressure on it to separate it enough for him to remove his skin from it. Within minutes one of the spare tires had come loose (not good since we have a 1 year old running around). A few minutes later the tool box came unglued and fell out. Later in the day one of the shower parts popped off. Overall I would not suggest this toy. I really wish I would have gotten the Mac hauler or some other Mac toy. This one is not impressive at all! Our three year old son received Mack from his uncle for his birthday. He loves it! He plays with it every day. He and his twin sister put Lightning McQueen in the back and pretend to wash him, brush his teeth and get him oil from the refrigerator. I liked that this 2008 model comes with Lightning McQueen instead of having to purchase him separately. I would agree with some of the reviews from the older model that the plastic does seem a little cheap and flimsy in some of the smaller parts. But, so far it has held up to daily play by two three year olds without breaking. Also the train goes over the track smoothly when you use them together. My son is 5, and still very much into Thomas. He loves building his own layouts with the wooden tracks, and having these risers adds to his fun by allowing him to create elevated track and having some go under the elevated track. You do have to carefully set it up, but then even his 2 year old sister can run the trains all around and not knock it over unless she bumps it pretty well. I highly recommend having elevated track and risers for preschool and above train fans. I use these to make elevated track but I drill the track with countersinking bit and use a wood screw to secure the track to the risers. If you plan on making elevated tracks without using glue or screws or nails your child will destroy the elevated track setup in minutes.
