I love the Take Along series because they're really durable. Gordon takes repeated "sailing across the room" tests and getting smashed on the tile floor and he still looks good as new. Bought for my son, loves it. Well made, he plays hard with it and doesn't have a sratch. The coal car, which connects by magnet, separates from the engine and my toddler sometimes misplaces it. The "coal" in the coal car fell out and I'm now finding pieces of it all over the house. Otherwise my toddler is thrilled with the "big engine." These trains are not compatible with the wooden set but are wonderfully portable, durable and much more reasonably priced than the wooden set. I can fit a huge set into a storage bin that slides under the bed rather than have trains taking over my house. Perhaps you all already know this, but we had to learn the hard way, this train is not compatible with the wooden tracks. We went on a trip to get a new train, my son traded in his Halloween candy in exchange for a new train, and then when we got home found it will not work with our other trains. Big let down... "Take along" means not for regular track play. Make sure this is what you are looking for before buying, since it doesn't seem evident in the description. This item is a delightful addition to my grandson's huge collection..It was sent on time and in perfect condition.. First off, let me start by saying I bought this roundhouse with the turntable for VERY little on Ebay. I saw how much it was in stores and online, so I waited it out with bidding. My son likes this roundhouse pretty well, but I found the one that makes sounds for really cheap locally and decided to get that one for him, he likes it even more, so if you have the money, the sights and sounds roundhouse is the way to go. Either way, they are both very well made as with all Thomas wooden railway items and you won't be disappointed. This was the best price I could find for this item after a lot of research on the web and in stores. Thomas merchandise is quite pricey so I took advantage of the few dollars I could save by purchasing it on Amazon. This is a great addition to the train table and my son loves it. If you have limited space on your table because of all the other Thomas track add on's like the covered bridge, suspension bridges, water tower etc...you may want to also purchase the switch track so you can attach multiple tracks to the roundhouse without taking up much space on your table. The roundhouse comes with a 5-way track but you can only attach that to one single piece of track. The roundhouse is extremely sturdy and I would expect it to last a good long time. I give 5 stars to the Roundhouse as a product (my niece would think 5 is not enough stars), but the description on the website did not mention that the Roundhouse included the Turntable. Knowing this would have saved me the effort of purchasing&then returning the Turntable. My three-year-old son loves Thomas&has many of the wooden railway sets&pieces. We thought he would love the Roundhouse, but this is the least played with item in his collection. In fact, I can't say that I've seen him play with it more than a couple of times and never for long. He'd much rather spend his time moving his trains around the tracks and over mountains and bridges (a much better way to spend your Thomas money, if you ask me). This piece is overpriced for what it is and you really need the round-about turntable to go with it (so, add an additional thirty to the cost). It is well constructed like all of the other Thomas&Friends wooden pieces by Learning Curve, which is why I gave it 2 stars. So...gauge your child's interest before purchase by watching how he or she plays. Your little conductor might have you spend the money on other items (mountains, extra tracks, a water tower, etc.) than on this piece. I know the Roundhouse is one we could live without, though maybe my son will develop an interest in it later. Go to your local toy store where a configuration is on display&see if your child uses the roundhouse much before making this purchase. (Awesome Double Duty Toy) The transaction went well, only problem I had was the box it comes in was a little damaged and torn, it looked like it was old and it was purchased for a birthday gift. The toy itself was fine. This was a much begged for toy but when received, well, it just wasn't as much fun as expected. The wings are hard to get out and the missles fire, but most cars, planes, etc. do that so there's nothing new there. It's cute, but probably would be best for a younger child, not over 5. The older boys, 6-8 think it's a "baby toy." Recommend, but with the age recommendations. I purchased two of these, one each for my 6-year old and my 3-year old. They have lots of fun with this toy, but I wish I would have been paying more attention when I bought it, because the batteries are button cells, which can get very expensive to replace, so if that's a concern for you, beware. One other point of concern is that it isn't as durable as I would've hoped. My son accidentally dropped it on the CARPET, and the end of the wing broke off, and it's supposed to bend, so you can't just glue it back on. All in all, it is an entertaining toy. I'm just glad I only paid $8.99 for it. My sons (3.5 and 5.5) each received one of these cars for Christmas and love playing with them. They are easily able to fold up and pop the wings out again and love the sound effects. My son wanted this toy for Christmas, and it was the only thing he asked Santa for. We saw it on Amazon, listed at $29.99, with a Sale Price of $20 off! At $9.99 it was a steal, and Amazon lowered the price again before it was shipped, so only invoiced me $8. By far the best $8 we've spent, especially because he was so excited Santa gave him EXACTLY what he was dreaming of. As a car, it's cool enough, but then lift the spoiler, and the wings pop out, and it even shoots missiles up to 5ft! How do you think a 4 year old would react! He was flying it around the room all day Christmas! It is very easy to figure out, and within a few tries, he was able to pop out the wings and fold them back in. They are cast iron and therefore very durable. Great Die Casts, your kids will love them...word to the wise there are very small parts that can be choking hazards if your children are under 3-5...Be very vigilant of this with smaller kiddos. My son loves Guido so I ordered this set for him. He loves playing with all of the characters from his favorite movie. I don't mind that the Guido and Luigi are small - the characters from the movie are small Italian cars. The only thing that makes me a little nervous is that there are some pointy edges. My son is only 3 and can sometimes play rough. However, the pointy edges are true to the characters from the movie so it's hard to complain. I am a computer animator working in the industry and I love collectors' toys based on animated movies such as these. This series of toys is by far the most enjoyable that I have come across. Usually I just get one or two of my favorite characters from a certain movie series, but I intend to collect every single one of these CARS. They will look great displayed in the studio that I work at. The detail of each car is outstanding and the quality is great. I don't have to worry that they will fall apart every time someone wants to pick them up and admire them! The only thing that I will not do is pay these outrageous prices that I have come across on Amazon. Funny thing, usually I turn to Amazon to save money over retail stores but in this case I was greatly disappointed! I expect this sort of price gouging on that other site where people auction stuff, but not here! These toys are not that hard to find. In the last week and a half I have been able to collect almost every single character. Just today I bought this very set (Luigi, Guido and Tractor) at Toys R Us for $7.99. I have paid as little as $2.99 for most characters and no more than $3.59 for a few newer ones. All the "Movie Moments" (multiple toy sets) have cost me $7.99 or less. The only characters that I need to complete my collection are DJ, RPM, and Yeti. Like I said, I have managed to get my hands on almost every single one of these toys in less than two weeks. I may have had to shop several stores (Target, Wal-mart, Toys R Us) but at least I didn't get robbed by these online bandits. Cool thing is that I still have the shops at Down Town Disney to hit up so I expect that I will be able to complete my collection pretty soon! Be patient, check your retailers regularly, they are not that hard to find and well worth a little searching. It was already broken when it arrived. The battery coil was disconnected so you were unable to use it because the battery was unable to connect to produce power. Thankfully, we have handy people here. It was a christmas present. Two legs fell off recently. Don't waste your money. I will be using it as a halloween decoration. This is a wonderful toy for children and I would recomend it to anyone who loves pranks or bugs of an arachnid type. It is great for studying the tarantula anatomy. Tara the Tarantula provided loads of fun for my husband, who is an entomologist. Seems to be anatomically correct too! My cat, who is too sophisticated to play with most toys, suckered for it too -- at first recoiling, then chasing it! I got this as a gift for Christmas, because I love spiders and Halloween. I had high hopes for this toy. I am disappointed that it does not work on any carpeted surfaces, and I have found that the spider reaction time is pretty slow. I find it to be poor engineering that the spider uses one size battery and the remote uses a different size battery. Still, it will amuse me for a while, and it occupies my cat here and there. This guy is a real blast when he unexpectedly crawls out from under a chair, but watch out lest he get stomped by someone in fear, ha ha. So he only works on hard surfaces that are relatively flat. He appears most realistic if you paint over his light up eyes with thick black paint and control him using repeated short pushes on the buttons on the remote control. Freak out your friends with this realistic-looking remote-controlled tarantula. This creepy critter has light-up eyes and a furry texture.
