Good size letters on the side are good for helping younger users recognize a few of their letters. I don't know of anything that is meant to "work" with Hector's opening: the cargo container that comes with cranky and a few of the other "destination" toys do not fit. A few things that I can think of to put inside would be too small for an under-3 child. For awhile this was my son's favorite, but that was, of course, supplanted by other characters. (You dont need to buy the cars) (Can't get it to load) (I May Never Get My Nephew's Attention Again) The instructions for installation of the software are non-existent. Connecting to the internet site is impossible on the weekends. Apparently the site has a limit of the number of players allowed on the site. Players are from all over the world and when their queue is full, your PC software launches and when it can't connect it closes. We have tried to connect at various times for the last three weeks and have not been able to get on the website. Needless to say, my nephew is very disappointed. My 5-year-old is a connoisseur of all thing Hot Wheels. It's fun to drive the courses, but you are unable to select which track you wish to drive ahead of time so you never know if you have the right car inserted prior to the race starting (the whole point is to have the car with the correct ability matched with the course). The cars are great and he will always play with those. I just picked up one of the turbo driver controllers at Walmart on clearance for a few bucks. I wasn't expecting much given the price. And I didn't read all the reviews on here, so I don't know if everyone already knows this. But with a few pens or pencils, paperclips even, you can pick any car to race with without actually having it on the controller. There are just 5 little pins that get depressed when you do put a car on it. Take three pencils and depress three pins and there you go, you have a new car. Once the race has been selected, you just pull them out, you don't have to keep them in there. Just a few minutes of trying and we had all the cars mapped out, were able to play all the races and get first place. That then opened up the global race and all the autowonders so you can then just add an autowonder to any car you actually do have. So my son was happy as a clam and we didn't have to pay the $15-20 per car that they all seem to be going for. So that having been said, there are some downsides to the controller itself. Sometimes we found that the forward button would actually make the car go in reverse. Sometimes even when using our car on the controller, it wouldnt pick it up correctly and the Grand Prix car would show up as the Spider car for a race. The pins on the car aren't quite long enough to hold a really tight connection it would seem. I don't think this toy is worth the price on here, especially given the availability of the cars themselves. But if you can find one on clearance and don't mind getting a little creative with pencils, it is a good deal. The CD installed fine. The Race the World download took a while, so my kids were eager to play by the time it finished. Every time we try to 'Race the World' we get a black screen then it blips off. I've tried uninstalling both, restarting the computer. The turbo drive controller works on the website. My computer has plenty of memory space. As Jem noted in a prior review, there is little support for the product. There's no info, tips, or contacts on hotwheels.com. So I'm looking to you for help. Any ideas? I handed this game controller to my eight year old nephew over Christmas break to keep him entertained and didn't see him again for several hours after his father helped him connect it and start playing. Relatives came, relatives left- I don't think Max noticed as he was too involved in navigating turns and listening to the music of the game. I asked him how he liked it and without blinking or looking from the screen he told me it was really cool, a lot of fun, and could I please move as I was blocking the light. I think he liked it. I was disappointed in the quality. It is made mostly of styrofoam. We chipped it just taking it out of the box. It never flew very well and wasn't very enjoyable. It only flew about 10-15 feet before you had to refill the air tank. Got this for my husband and 4 year old son to enjoy. I knew based on the price that it wasn't going to be top quality, but was shocked that it literally went from box to trash can within 5 minutes. It's first flight was rocky, then the 2nd flight was smoother, but obviously what goes up comes down and when it hit the grass that time, a tiny plastic piece that held the wings on broke. End of fun. My son was crushed. A huge waste of money. Wasn't worth me paying even more $ to return the thing. I bought this for my best friends son and my husband for christmas. They both enjoyed the air plane. I bought it from amazon for 14.99 so be careful because it can be sold as high as 75.99 by other retailers. It is a great toy! My son had one of these - but he was a little too young to get the hang of tossing it. So I would fly it ... and I couldn't stop. First, you don't throw it, you just give it a gentle toss after starting the prop. Second, you'll want to tweak the rear elevator and rudder a little bit so that the plane gradually gains altitude while turning in a wide circle. Third, when they say you need to be in a big open field, they're not kidding. We flew this a lot in the back yard, and it held up really well. The part that finally broke was the prop, after smashing into houses, and pavement, and playground equipment. The wing had a couple of dents in the leading edge - easily fixed with scotch tape. But don't be fooled - the prop is made of ABS plastic, and it's quite durable. It's just that when it gets bent a little bit, you really need to bend it straight again to get it to fly. Don't crash it into hard objects, and it'll last a lot longer. Still, you'll fly this until it won't fly anymore. And it'll be worth every penny. The air engine works well and being clear plastic allows the user to see how it works - elegantly simple. The plane itself is styrofoam and not too durable. Fun while it lasts. The Sky Ranger Mini Park Flyer looks great and has good power. The rudder control is designed to prevent crashes due to over-input - it does this by returning rudder to neutral if the rudder stick is held left or right longer than 1.5 seconds. A good concept until there is wind to counteract! Ideally, this airplane should be flown in near complete calm. Another ideal feature is the 'breakaway' wing...the wing snaps in place, however, after only a few landings in which the wing breaks away, the plastic mounting plugs start to wear away the soft styrofoam wing in which they are imbedded. The result is a wing that fits looser and looser with every less-than-perfect touchdown. Eventually, the wing must be either glued on or attached with rubber bands (common for many hobby-grade RC airplanes). Aside from this problem, it takes hard landings well, but should definitely be flown over a grassy area.
