(Great fun!) (Great Little Set!) (Fine for a starter set) My son received this train when he was two and a half. He LOVES it and plays with it every day! It is a great first train for a child. I highly recommend it. We have had it for seven months and have not had any trouble with the tracks linking together or the construction of the tracks. Great wooden train track set. They need to find a better way to attach the wheels to the cars, very loose wobbley. A Christmas present for my 2 1/2 year old Son which he loves! I initially purchased this set to add on to an existing brio set he had and it is compatible. However, my son has Thomas and friends trains and the wheels do not align to this set at all! Whilst it is possible to use the Thomas trains, when one wheel is in the groove of the track the other wheel falls short of the other groove causing them to derail often. This set is great fun and good quality but definitely best used with wooden trains. We bought this set to add on to a generic wooden train set that we already owned. For the price, this set was just what we needed and was a perfect add-on. I really like the bridge; others that I've seen are not sturdy at all. My children were frustrated playing with a set in a store once because the bridge kept falling over- the bridge was just track that sloped up and lay on top of a block. Even I could not get it to stay up when pushing a train over it. The bridge in this set is great, no toppling over= happy kids. I'm surprised that more of the bridges out there for trains aren't made like this? The pieces fit together the same way any other wooden tracks do, I didn't think they were poor quality or gapping like another reviewer mentioned. My 1.5 and 3.5 year olds can both push the trains around on the track and enjoy this toy! I like that this is a toy they will be able to use for a long time, creating more elaborate tracks as they grow. Our 21/2 year old grand daughter, plays with this wooden train set every day since Xmas. She doesn't have trouble with derailments, other than pushing to hard from the rear end of the train. She has 8 or nine Thomas trains she uses with this set, all seem fine to us. From what we see, over all the fancy electronic toys and new baby dolls, this seems to be her favorite toy, but have been advisted she wants James and Emily soon. I'd bought it for my 4 year old (now 6), and now his little brother (now almost 3) plays with it. As other people mentioned, it's not good for take along because not many of the pieces of track will fit in the top. My almost 3 year old gets frustrated becasue he's constantly getting the trains stuck inside. I have to disconnect it from the track and turn it upside down to get them out. Other than that, both of my children enjoy the toy. It's just a lot of work for me. I got this for my 4 year old grandson and he loves it. I also got the extra tracks and he was able to get other other sets to with this one. It was a Christmas gift and he still plays with it. My 3 year old son LOVES this toy, he has played with it non stop for a week now. We bought the pack of extra track and it has been hours of fun. He used some of his regular pieces from his other train set to add to it. The set is light weight and easy to pack up to take out which is the point. I will definitely buy more from the take along set. This is a great product! I was a little worried about the track not staying together b/c I read the other reviews but my son got it for his 2nd bday and we haven't had any problems. Its cheaper and just the right size for tots. He has some of the track master sets but they are a little too advanced for him. He loves this one and I think it is a perfect starter set. My 4 year old has been an avid Thomas fan for about 2 years now. We had gotten a lot of the wooden railway stuff as hand-me-downs from older cousins and he's played with them religiously. Over the last 2 years, we have picked up a bunch of the Take Along engines since they are much less expensive than the wooden railway cars. He loves them too, but complains because they "bump" on the wooden track. The roundhouse is the first Take Along playset we have gotten (although more are coming for his birthday soon) and he is completely enthralled with it. I'm not sure why people are complaining about it. Comparing it to the wooden railway is like comparing apples to oranges. Yes, the wooden railway is more durable -- however, it is also twice as expensive. We don't find that this track is difficult for him to put together himself or that it falls apart. He's had no problems at all with it. The engines fit in as well - perhaps some other people are trying to put some of the wooden railway cars into it - they will not fit. Yes, the track has to be put into the roof "just so" in order for it to close -- so what! It literally takes about 2 minutes for an adult to figure out how to put it in -- they even imprinted the track on the bottom to make it easier. It's a toy -- it's not rocket science, people! :-) Anyway, we love Take Along and Thomas in general -- it has given my son hours of enjoyment and I expect many more hours to come. I wasn't sure what they'd be like, or how they'd hold up, but I was more than pleasantly surprised....these things are fantastic. They're cute, strong, easy to grip for little hands. Made of sustainable wood (a huge plus!) and NOT manufactured in China. The colors are vibrant and look just like the real signs - and after 6 months of really hard use, travel (they go everywhere with us) and tons of play, they are still flawless - the paint has worn a little, but they are in perfect shape otherwise. It's a nice size also. My son has several Bruder forklifts and loves them all. I am very impressed by the detail and the quality of these toys. Like most little boys (he is now four) he can be rough with his toys and has learned that Mom and Dad cannot fix everything so he has tape on one forklift holding the fork in place. Thanks to Bruder for making the only toy with wheels my son truly wanted. My 2 1/2 year old LOVES FORKLIFTS, but toy forklifts are very hard to come by. We got this for him for christmas and he loves it so much, he's been sleeping with it every night! It isn't as durable as I'd like, but i explained to him how it was a special toy and he needs to play with it gently, and so far, it's held up nicely. Last Christmas we purchased the forklift and 2 other vehicles by Bruder. One arrived with a broken piece and the other 2 broke the first day. I contacted Bruder by email a few days after Christmas. I was told that after 20 days, no returns were accepted. Since I ordered the gifts prior to Christmas, I was out of luck. They never responded any further to my complaints in the quality of their product. Die Cast vehicles have been much more durable. Not only were the products brittle, but moving mechanisms seemed made to crack off so that very quickly the primary function of all the machines was broke. My 3-year-old son was crazy about watching the fork lifts at Home Depot and was delighted to receive this as a big brother gift when our second child arrived. But alas, as other reviewers have mentioned, it is brittle. The basket was broken into many pieces after being stepped on. The up/down mechanism was too delicate. We still get it out for the second child now and then, but he is too frustrated about the broken parts. A real working forklift to pick up those heavy loads! Our forklift comes with a box-type pallet and features a tilting lift mast, a fork that can be raised and lowered, plus working steering. My two year old little boy was non-stop "mama build the choo-choo train track?" for about a month straight and I was running out of ideas! So we bought this larger set and Jacob loves it! There is plenty of track to allow this stay at home mommy plenty of creativity! At 26 months my son has started building the track himself (hand eye coordination) and he plays with most of the buildings too (more small motor skill development)... All the pieces are wooden and durable - Jacob leans on them to push them all over the house! - and they come with a lifetime warranty! We also have a 4 month old little boy - I can't wait to see them play together in the coming years! I would strongly recommend this toy to another family! I can see how it will allow our sons to play individually (there's plenty of track/trains/buildings to divide) as well as together! I got this set for my 3 year old daughter for Christmas. She was very excited when she got it. It took a little time to put it together but it was worth it. Her and I play with this set all the time. We make up adventures as we go along. As far as the track goes, it did not fit snug as I thought it would. It fits a little too loose. The original track layout is a little tough if you are playing on the floor. Also, you really can't let the trains go down the hills on the original layout, because the trains derail WAY too easy. The destinations are pretty cool. The barrel loader is easy to work as well as the log loader, but the crane is alittle difficult to use because of the small knobs to reel in the crane. The only other flaw is the ramps themselves. You can'yt put too many cars hooked to the train because they have a tendency to turn and fall off the track too easy and some of the trains bottom out going up and down the ramps. As far as the fun is concern there is plenty of it. You can create many different track layouts because of how much track you get. A good tip is to have more straight tracks when you finish coming down the hill so the trains do not derail.Also if your kid is like mine, if they are playing on the floor, and they sit inthe middle of the track, make a big wide square track and they will enjoy it better. I would recommend the original layout for a train table than the floor. ONly beacause there are areas where you have to reach far to use the crane and to go under the bridge. The simpler the layout the better. My daughter loves when I make a layout with all bordges and ramps. Sometimes I make a steep down hill track with the two tracks side by side and have train races. There is no end of different things you can do with this set. So hop aboard this train set for many hours of fun. It even comes in it's own toy box for storage. The box is decorative and made very well. This railway series has many things you can buy to add on this set. Also what is cool, after my daghter is done playing with it, my son can also enjoy it in the future. Yes it is pricey but definitly worth the money,. I was amazed at the beautiful craftsmanship and attention to detail of every aspect of this railroad set. What a delight, after seeing so many poorly made toys, to present my grandson with this true work of art. This set in particular has many mechanical aspects -- hoisting cranes, loading logs at the Sodor lumbermill, loading barrels of flour and molasses, filling water tanks, etc -- all of which work with delightful realism. I look forward to enjoying this set with my grandson for many many years, as he learns not only basic principles of physics, but the essential elements of sustainable community life, as well. My son absolutely adores this train set! We bought it for him for his birthday a month ago and he plays with it multiple times throughout the day. It is a large set with lots of varying height, curves and activites. I did not rate it five stars because I think a couple of the buildings could be easier to use. I recommend this set though. I think this could start at 2 years with basic play and leave years to grow with your child. Using the buildings (as I'll call them) properly probably wouldn't be a focus for a two year old, but 3-4 and up would definitely appreciate the barrel loader, log loader, grain house and crane. If you are buying a train table be very aware of the set-up dimensions of this set. We bought an Imaginarium table and while we like the table, there needs to be another inch of length to fit properly. I would take the table back, but we are getting my son a smaller set for Christmas and will put the smaller set on there and build a custom table for this set and to link in with the other table. I bought a smaller set of Thomas 3+ years ago and have addded just about every piece and every engine they have... I have a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old (boys) I have a train table set up with rolling bins under the table and NOT one single day has passed in the last 3 years where that train has not been played with... We are a favorite house among my sons friends and Learning Curve stands behind their product.... This may seem like a HUGE investment, and IT IS!!! But Learning curve has a LIFETIME warranty.. and they truly stand behind this.... It is well made and acurate. Has a nice stand and looks good overall. However I was a little disappointed with the color. It was too dark and drab. It did not reflect the true color of the original ship. Other than the color, I would rate this a 4 star ornament. I bought this item as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend. I was surprised to see that it was larger than I had expected. The stand is very durable, as is the actual ornament. It may be a little heavy for smaller christmas trees. If you want to hang it, choose a sturdy branch. Other than that, I love it! Well, I bought it as a gift for someone. He's hanging it in his room and not actually playing with it since he collects things like this. I purchased this little ship model one night after watching one of my Firefly DVD's, saddened at the fact the show is probably never comming back, browsing Amazon in the middle of the night. I kind of bought it on a whim, but I was very pleased when I recieved it because it's a beautiful recreation of the ship herself. Now, she sits perched atop a speaker in my living room, and I can glance up at her finely detailed hull, angled slightly as to resemble her dashing accross the verse without a care in the world. Every detail I can think of is perfect, even the little dishes mounted here and there that I can recall intact. For a sad browncoat like me, it's very comforting to see Serenity in my house, and I can daydream about being a member of her crew. All mushy feelings about the show aside, it really is a great little model of the ship, nicely detailed. It's about 5-6 inches long I think, comes with a loop on top to hang it, or you can detatch that and sit it on a base that it comes with. On the base, it sit's at an angle like as if it were mid-flight, kinda neat I thought. If your a fan of the show I recommend buying it, also, it comes from Universal which helps fill their pockets relating to Serentiy. Always a good thing if Universal were on the fence thinking of whether or not to make a sequel. It's a nice little model of a ship many of us hold in our hearts. I like this Ornament quite a bit. The Firefly class of ship is really interesting, the detailing and paint job on this model is pretty good. Serenity fans rejoice! I'm lucky that we have a big sliding glass door for them to us. Doesn't seem to mark up the walls but the glass is probably a safer option. It is small, fast and pretty cheap. Good fun toy.
